History[]
John Corben was originally a war reporter at the Daily Planet who bore a grudge against Superman for the death of his sister at the hands of an escaped convict he failed to capture. He spiraled into a life of crime as a con man and mercenary before his body was horribly mangled in a car crash while on a job for a mysterious employer. He was approached by Lex Luthor who offered him a chance at new life through an secret government experiment headed by General Sam Lane: "Metal 0." The process involved Professor Emmet Vale, who shared Lane's xenophobia towards Superman, transplanting Corben's nervous system into a robotic body with a daily uranium installment in his core to keep him alive. While Corben did revel in his his robotic body, which is covered in fleshlike artificial skin, the inability to feel any sensation got to him. Corben later learns that his near-death experience was arranged by Lane, killing Vale after forcing him to install a two-pound chunk of Kryptonite to be powered indefinitely. Corben since renamed himself after the experiment that created him: Metallo.
Death Battle Info[]
After becoming a cyborg, his robotic body made of a composite of promethium and an alloy of Coluan origin, Metallo possesses incredible superhuman strength and durability that allows him to be a physical threat even to non-kryptonian superhumans. Originally, Metallo open his chest to fire a beam of energy from his Kryptonite battery. He is later upgraded to Metallo 2.0, with the added feature of projecting kryptonite energy from his optics.
Feats[]
- Survived drowning in lava.
- Was a member of the secret service during Luthor's presidency (though he was set up to be killed off.)
Flaws[]
- Can be deactivated if his Kryptonite battery-core is removed, as Kryptonite is his primary powersource.
- If Superman can avoid the Kryptonite: he can overpower Metallo easily.
- Metallo's chest has a protective door to block attacks and protect the Kryptonite: however this door is thick enough (possibly made of lead) to block the Kryptonite radiation. If the door is jammed, Metallo cannot use the radiation in battle. [1]
- Heavy metal makes him unable to swim (he cannot drown however).
- He can tracked via his promethium composition.
- If outfitted with a synthetic Kryptonite core, Metallo would become a living bomb as the material gradually breaks down before causing a massive explosion.
