Description[]

Nintendo vs Capcom!  These two may look like rivals to the game's protagonist, but they help them out on numerous occasions... then fight... then help them again... you get the point.  Who will emerge victorious in this fight?  The caped knight, or the rogue robot master?

Section heading[]

Bubbles: The main hero you know and love may be adorable, heroic and lovable, but their rivals are anything but.

Neo: Meta Knight, the masked Star Warrior and rival to Kirby.

Koopa: And Proto Man, Dr. Light’s first creation and rival to Mega Man.

Neo: He’s Koopa, she’s Bubbles, and I’m Neo!

Koopa: And it’s our job to analyze their weapons, armor and skills to find out who would win…

Koopa, Bubbles and Neo: A DEATH BATTLE!!!

Meta Knight[]

Koopa: Over a thousand years ago, an epic war waged across the universe.  The legendary and heroic Star Warriors fought against the evil Nightmare for the fate of everything good.  Luckily, the Star Warriors prevailed, and peace was brought to the universe once again.  Lives were lost, but one infant Star Warrior survived the massacre and was destined to be reborn a millennia later and save the galaxy once more.

Neo: That destined warrior would become… Kirby.  No, I’m serious.

Bubbles: Well, while Kirby would prove to be incredibly powerful in his own right, he was far too naive for his own good.  Luckily, another surviving Star Warrior would become Kirby’s mentor to prepare him for the next inevitable fight for the fate of the universe.  That warrior went by Meta Knight.

Neo: Not a whole lot is known about Meta Knight’s origins, but he was among those that fought Nightmare in the first war.  He then became a servant to King Dedede alongside fellow warriors who are totally not OC names: Sword Knight and Blade Knight.

Koopa: Meta Knight would sort of be an on-and-off rival to Kirby, at one minute wanting to kill him, the other wanting to fight alongside him… it’s a complicated relationship.  Still, the fact that Meta Knight is constantly able to put up a good fight with Kirby should give you an idea of what he’s capable of.

Neo: Oh come on, Kirby?  He doesn’t seem to tough to bea-

A clip shows Kirby defeating Nightmare and destroying a portion of the moon.

Neo: …I stand corrected.

Bubbles: Meta Knight wields the Galaxia, a blade which has been said to possess infinite power.  It can fire laser beams, fireballs, and electricity, and has been primarily used by Meta Knight for over thousands of years.  He also wears the Dimensional Cape, which allows him to teleport short distances and even fly.

Neo: And if that weren’t enough, Meta Knight’s got some killer moves in his arsenal as well, such as the Tornado, where he spins so fast, he turns into a… well, tornado.  He can even upgrade it and become a Mach Tornado, where he’s on goddamn fire!  Literally!

Koopa: He’s also capable of moves like the Drill Rush and Shuttle Loop, even having a variation that sends his opponents upwards.  Meta Knight can also call upon his fellow Meta Knights Sword or Blade Knight to help him out in battle, though they’re much weaker in comparison to the original.  However, his most powerful and deadliest attack in his arsenal is the Galaxia Darkness, in which he swings his cape at the opponent,  paralyzing them and finishing them off with a powerful slash.

Neo: Meta Knight may be a bit of an edgelord, but there’s a reason he’s constantly kept up with the greatest Star Warrior ever to grace Dream Land.  He’s defeated opponents like King Dedede and Magalor, destroyed warship cannons head on, flies from planet to planet in mere seconds, and even defeated himself in a fight!  So he’s better… than himself.  What.

Koopa: For comparison, King Dedede is about as strong as Kirby himself.  Kirby was able to destroy Planet Pop Star with a single punch.  Considering Pop Star is similar in size to the planet Shiver Star, which is basically a frozen-over Earth, so it’s plausible that Kirby could do this same feat to our actual Earth.

Neo: You should be terrified.

Bubbles: Meta Knight is a tough opponent, though he does have his fair share of weaknesses.  He’s only about 8 inches tall and usually relies on his sword for combat, meaning he doesn’t have a whole lot of hand-to-hand experience or experience in other weaponry.  Plus, his code of honor dictates that he will not fight an opponent unless they’re armed.

Koopa: But Meta Knight proved himself to be one of the best Star Warriors the galaxy had ever seen, and is one of the few combatants in the Kirby universe to ever be a true match for the pink puffball.

Meta Knight: Come back when you can put up a fight.

Proto Man[]

Bubbles: In the year 20XX, scientist Dr. Light would change the course of humanity forever by developing the first sentient robots capable of mimicking human interactions.  His vision was to create a world where humans and robots coexist alongside one another.

Neo: And one of those robot prototypes was actually the very first robot Light worked on, simply titled Proto Man.  Things seemed to be going hunky dory, but it turns out that his energy core was damaged pretty bad, and if not fixed, he would stop working.

Koopa: Dr. Light planned to repair him, but Proto Man feared the modifications to his body would change his identity, and fled as to not be shut down.  He was alone, and since he hadn’t gotten the repairs he needed, he was about to die.

Neo: Luckily, an evil scientist named Dr. Wily, who just so happened to be Dr. Light’s former partner found the dying robot and took him in as his own.  From there, Proto Man would receive some pretty big upgrades and a shield, and assist Wily in world domination!

Koopa: Being a similar prototype to Dr. Light’s second and more successful creation, Mega Man, Proto Man has similar abilities to him.  He uses the Proto Buster, a hand cannon which can fire at a rapid pace, but can also be charged up for a larger, more powerful blast.

Bubbles: His Proto Shield can be used both as a defense mechanism and a weapon, even being able to dash with it as a battering ram.  And similar to his blue brother, Proto Man can copy the powers of the other robot masters  and use them to his advantage.

Neo: He can cut opponents down to size with the Metal Blade, burn them with Atomic Fire, deflect projectiles with the Water Shield, strike opponents with lightning bolts with the Thunder Beam, fire a fist with the Power Knuckle and even suck opponents into a black hole with the Black Hole Bomb!

Koopa: However, his most powerful attack is the Big Bang Strike.  This powerful blast of energy was able to destroy King’s shield, which both Mega Man and Bass were hardly able to hurt.  It’s hard to deduce how powerful this shield is, but at this point in the series, Mega Man was able to hold up a giant castle and break through solid walls, and Bass was able to destroy Dr. Light’s laboratory, and is also comparable to Mega Man in a lot of ways.

Neo: Seriously, why is everyone comparable to Mega Man in this series?  I know Dr. Light made them and all, but surely he could’ve made something cool like… I don’t know a time-traveling badass robot with an energy sword…

Bubbles: You wanna tell her?

Koopa: Nah.  Anyways, Proto Man proved himself to be a worthy adversary and alternative to Mega Man with his own quirks.  He’s given the Blue Bomber trouble in the past, jump over lasers from a disguised Dark Man, and considering he’s a near-clone of Mega Man, it’s safe to assume he can do just about anything he can do.

Neo: This includes holding up Wily’s castle and being able to beat Quick Man who clocks in at just 224,000 miles per hour!  Proto Man is a worthy adversary to his brother, but he’s got his weaknesses.  His Mega Buster has unlimited ammo, but his other abilities have limited ammo, so he can’t just fire them out willy-nilly.

Bubbles: Also, the core Proto Man uses is a nuclear one as opposed to a solar core, meaning that it can become unstable and cause him to malfunction.  But despite his mechanical issues, Proto Man went from a dying scrap heap to one of Dr. Light’s best creations and Dr. Wily’s greatest allies.

Proto Man: Robots are machines that follow orders. I'm a machine that doesn't, so what does that make me?

Interlude[]

Koopa: Alright, the combatants are set, let’s end this debate once and for all.

Neo: It’s time for a DEATH BATTLE!!!

Pre-Fight[]

On a giant warship with a giant mask on the front, gigantic wings and guns that could tear apart kingdoms, a bright red beam shined down on the front deck.  The figure had a shield on his back, and his yellow scarf blew through the harsh, but manageable wind.  Proto Man noticed a presence near him; one with a powerful spirit to them.  Behind him was a smaller figure wrapped up in a cape.  As if in a showdown, Proto Man turned around quickly and fired a pellet at the figure, Meta Knight slicing the pellet in half and revealing himself.  Proto Man aimed his Proto Buster at his opponent as Meta Knight posed with his blade.

Meta Knight: Fight me.

FIGHT!

Fight[]

Proto Man began shooting at Meta Knight, jumping backwards to create space, though Meta Knight quickly flew at Proto Man and weaved through his shots, coming in close for a quick flurry of sword strikes.  He went to attack again, but Proto Man blocked with his shield.  No matter how much Meta Knight attacked, he couldn’t seem to break through his defenses or even catch him off guard.  Proto Man dashed forward with his shield, attacking Meta Knight with a swift combo of shield strikes, knocking him away and shooting a charged shot with his Proto Buster, damaging Meta Knight significantly.

Meta Knight quickly spun and disappeared, Proto Man looking around only to get hit by a surprise teleport attack, repeatedly getting hit until he caught Meta Knight and attempted to throw him off of the warship, though Meta Knight flew right back up and attacked him with more sword attacks, comboing him until he struck Proto Man to the ground.  Meta Knight charged up a sword strike from above, looking to end it early, but Proto Man blocked with his shield, causing him to bounce off.  He tried it again, though Proto Man was able to fake him out and use his Thunder Beam, causing Meta Knight to spin out and land next to Proto Man.

Proto Man stood up and summoned three metal blades, throwing them at Meta Knight.  MK dodged all three of them, though he was once again able to block all of them with his shield.  Proto Man dashed once more, following it up with a Hard Knuckle that sent Meta Knight flying against a cannon.  Proto Man ran towards Meta Knight and dashed into him, ramming him into the cannon until it eventually gave out and flew off, damaging Meta Knight significantly.  Proto Man went to end it by firing a Black Hole Bomb.

Meta Knight quickly began flying against the force of the black hole, dodging each of Proto Man’s shots as he kept flying as fast as he could.  Proto Man went to use Atomic Fire, but the black hole subsided, and Meta Knight was going so fast, he rammed Proto Man off of the Halberd.  He grabbed the red robot, descending quickly to the ground.  Proto Man hit Meta Knight with his shield, causing him to let go as he charged up his Big Bang Strike, glowing white.

Proto Man: Big… bang…

Meta Knight flew as fast as he could, though Proto Man was able to fire off his attack.

Proto Man: ...STRIKE!

Proto Man fired the shot, causing a massive explosion in the air.  He flew back, though he landed on the ground below and stood up.  He was badly damaged, but he knew his opponent was over with.  However, as he went to walk away, a sudden “woosh” flew by him as Meta Knight suddenly appeared, kicking Proto Man and slashing him upwards once, twice, three times, four times, and finally waving his cape over his opponent.  Everything went black for Proto Man, and the last thing he saw was a single millisecond of Meta Knight cutting him in half.  Proto Man’s now severed torso fell to the ground as his shield tumbled away.  Meta Knight landed and looked back at the scraps of his opponent.

Meta Knight: Come back when you can put up a fight.

Post Fight[]

K.O!

Neo: Well, now I see why this guy was top tier in Brawl.

Koopa: This was an interesting fight.  Meta Knight and Proto Man have two widely different skill sets, both great at what they do.  Proto Man’s wide arsenal of weaponry kept Meta Knight on his toes, and certainly gave him some trouble when it came to moves like the Thunder Beam and Black Hole Bomb, but that’s really about it.  Although Proto Man being a long-ranged fighter gave him the spacing-advantage, Meta Knight was far faster and dealt with this kind of strength and even speed before.

Neo: The Black Hole Bomb seemed like a shoe-in, but interestingly enough, Meta Knight has shown to be able to outrun a black hole that could suck all of the space around it!  And while it was only for a brief moment, Proto Man’s black holes only last for so long as well, so he was gonna need a hell of a lot more than a silly inescapable-pull-of-gravity.

Bubbles: But the ultimate question was whether or not Proto Man could hit Meta Knight with the Big Bang Strike.  I mean, if Mega Man and Bass couldn’t destroy King’s shield, surely Meta Knight would be obliterated by it, right?  Well, Meta Knight was able to keep up with Kirby’s Warp Star, which can keep up with Dark Matter, which can fly across 8 galaxies in 7 seconds.

Koopa: The blast seemed to be pretty quick, but to be fair, King was standing pretty still and didn’t think too much of it at first, so if Proto Man had a hard time hitting Meta Knight with just his regular attacks, there was very little chance he was actually gonna be able to hit Meta Knight with anything that could kill him.

Neo: And plus, the attack leaves Proto pretty weak, so if he doesn't kill him with that attack, he can kiss his metal behind goodbye!

Bubbles: In the end, Meta Knight had the speed, strength and skill to take out Proto Man for good; it certainly wasn’t one sided, but there’s a reason Meta Knight was able to keep up with one of the most powerful Star Warriors in the galaxy.

Neo: Looks like Proto Man couldn’t keep up with the meta!

Koopa: The winner is Meta Knight.
