Maui was a very popular demi-god in Polynesian Mythology , being viewed as a significant demi-god all throughout Hawaii and other Polynesian Islands prior to the Christianization of Polynesia , he is the son of the Polynesian God Akalana and the son of a mortal woman named Hina .
