Mary Poppins’ appearance has often been compared to that of a “Dutch doll,” which is to say a peg wooden doll. She is tall and thin, with large hands and feet, and piecing blue eyes. She has shiny black hair that she keeps short, and she wears prim and conservative clothes, and a sensible hat.
When rain threatens, she carries an umbrella that has a parrot’s head for a handle, and when she is travelling, she carries her belongings in a carpet bag.
