Description[]
Nintendo vs 5th Cell! These two light-hearted heroes with hundreds of abilities and power-ups at their disposal step into the ring! Will Mario's arsenal prove to much for Maxwell? Or will the Scribblenauts' notebook prove to be the plumber's undoing?
Interlude[]
Counter: Power. In many stories, the hero simply gains power, and needs no more. But even with the best heroes, they sometimes need...a little help.
Kaiya: With items that make them even more deadly! Like Mario! It's-a-him! Nintendo's red-capped hero of the Mushroom Kingdom!
Damien: Or Maxwell, the scribbling collector of Starites that can create almost anything!
Hannah: To keep this fair, we're going to eliminate external sources, like Paper Mario.
Counter: I'm Counter, and these are my partners, Damien, Kai and Hannah!
Kaiya: And we've taken over from Wiz and Boomstick to analyse the two's weapons armour and skills to find out who would win a Death Battle!
Mario[]
Counter: Jumpman, Mr Video Game himself and Red Luigi are just some of the names you may know him by, but most just call him...Mario.
Damien: Born as one of the 7 Star Children, Mario was destined for greatness and heroism right from the start. Right from birth, his twin brother Luigi was captured, and Mario was to save him...as a newborn baby!
Kaiya: He also had help from a Yoshi, and screeched and cried along the journey, but no-one seems to talk about that. Anyway, after saving his brother, Mario's destiny was set in stone. He would, time and time again, defend his home, The Mushroom Kingdom, from the evil forces of King Bowser.
Hannah: And Mario was the perfect fit for a hero. He was kind, generous...well, heroic, and never complained. He always defended his home with a smile.
Counter: That, and he was one of the Star Children and possessed great power. He has plenty of power to time and time again rescue his girlfriend, Princess Peach. He can even smash solid brick with a single punch.
Kaiya: And he's a complete speed demon, running whole adventures without getting tired! Simply put, Mario is a beast in combat, but when he needs a little more firepower, he busts out his trusty array of power-ups, which can do amazing things! First up is the Fire Flower, which-
Damien: Hey! Don't forget that Mario doesn't need that anymore! While he used to need it, Mario has learned how to manipulate and utilize fire without help from a power-up. Fireballs are his speciality, and he uses them at any given opportunity!
Hannah: Well, regardless, the Ice Flower lets him freeze enemies solid, often picking them up and smashing them on the ground for a quick kill. The Super Mushroom increases his power and size, the Mini Mushroom makes him extremely fragile but grants him increased speed and the ability to run up walls and even on water.
Counter: On the opposite end of the scale, the Mega Mushroom makes him ginormous, able to run through just about anything! But it makes him incredibly slow in the process. The Double Cherry creates clones of Mario, the Lucky Bell turns him into a cat, able to scratch foes and run up walls with ease.
Damien: My cat never does that...
Counter: What? You have a cat?
Damien: Yeah! Meet Damien Jr!
(Damien picks up his cat and shows him to Counter. Kai and Hannah watch on, entertained.)
Counter: Hello... (the cat hisses at him) Uhh...
Damien: Aw, he likes you!
(With a yowl, Damien Jr. leaps towards Counter and attacks. As Counter yells, Kai chuckles slightly.)
Kaiya: Ah, music to my ears. Anyway...While Mario can jump over 10 feet into the air, if he needs to get higher, he can fly with the Cape Feather, Wing Cap and Red Star! The Cloud Suit even lets him create clouds as extra platforms to stand on!
Hannah: And in case Mario wants to cosplay, he has the Bee Mushroom to fly for a short time, the Tanooki Suit allows Mario to glide and hit enemies with his tail, even turning into a statue if he wants to. If he gets enough of a run-up with the Racoon Suit, he can take to the skies, the Frog Suit increases his jumping and swimming ability and as Boo Mario, can turn invisible and intangible.
Kaiya: Hey, is Mario a furry?
(Counter finally gets to his feet, Damien holding his cat tightly.)
Counter: Where were we...Ah, and in case he needs more weight than he already has, he can use the Metal Cap, transforming him into a metallic version of himself. In this form, he is completely invincible and extremely heavy.
Damien: Speaking of invincibility, with the Starman, Mario gets surrounded by a rainbow aura. In this form, he can't take damage and kills most enemies with a single touch! Same with the Rainbow Star...shame that it, uh, doesn't last.
Kaiya: And while not technically a power-up, Mario owns a Hammer, crafted my two master blacksmiths, allowing him to smash large rocks, barrels, anything he wants to, really! And in Super Mario Odyssey, he gained a new ally, a simply Bonetter named Cappy.
Counter: Taking the form of Mario's hat, when thrown, he can latch onto a foe, literally allowing Mario to possess them and take control of their body. That's...not legal, at all. He can even Capture, as it's called, a tyrannosaurus rex and even tanks, although Cappy does have trouble Capturing larger objects and animals. But hey, when he does capture someone they get a sweet moustache!
Hannah: Simply put, Mario has it all. Heck, with the Bottomless Gloves, Mario never runs out of power-ups, and can pull one out whenever he needs to.
Damien: But power-up or not, Mario really earns that 'Super' title he has! he's able to crush tanks to bits with a single Ground Pound, survive falling off a skyscraper and landing on his feet with no injuries and is able to react as a bolt of lightning!
Kaiya: And Mario has fought and defeated Wario, who was able to survive the Shake King detonating in his face! Seeing as the blast ended up splitting the skies, the explosion was likely around 96 sextillion tons of TNT!
Counter: Better yet, Wario's even bested the Black Jewel, who was able to create an entire parallel dimension on his own! And while Wario is technically stronger, Mario was able to best him before, and because he's a Star Child, it's possible, no, likely that he's around the same level. And with this logic, he's even comparable to Yoshi, who an entire constellation on his own.
Hannah: He was even able to lift an entire castle on his own and punt it away. While it doesn't look like much, this castle's size is inconsistent to castles portrayed in other games, which are depicted as actual castles. Taking into consideration the sheer size of the castle, it must weigh at least 61 million tons.
Counter: Which means that he can kick with a force of 3.5 megatons of TNT. And he wasn't even trying! And he's super tough, too. He can survive massive explosions in a tennis court, is comparable to Wario, and has survived a castle exploding in his face.
Damien: And he can best Bowser, who can survive the heat of the Sun (5,600 degrees Celsius) and even a black hole, which...ah, is impossible. How can someone survive something that not even light can escape from!?
Hannah: Well, Wario is comparable to Mario, who, when he defeated the Black Jewel, whose death triggered the collapse of an entire dimension. He's tanked massive blows, being sent to another planet, huge falls and hits from Dreamy Bowser, who was powered by the dreams of everyone on an island, each dream represents a separate universe, and not only could Mario survive his attacks, but he was able to beat him...alongside his brother.
Kaiya: So yeah, he's super tough, but he's also super fast! He can expertly pilot the Star Diver as it rocketed through space, at speeds over Mach 300! How the hell? ...Should I start eating red and white mushrooms?
Counter: NOPE! Uh-uh! No way! It's the moustache!
Kaiya: Oh. Then maybe I should grow a moustache...
Counter: Yes, please. He can even defend against lightning bolts before they strike him. Considering the nature of the bolt and the fact that it came from the sky, it's likely that this is real lightning, which moves at 220,000,000 kilometres per hour, and he just took it like a champ! To be classified as 'lightning', the bolt has to contain at least 1.6 BILLION joules of energy!
Damien: And this guy takes them straight to the head without flinching! He has plenty of experience and skill under his belt, being in over 300 games and having loads of different jobs like a carpenter, a plumber, a doctor, an umpire, a chef, and plenty more! There's no question that Mario has been through a lot!
Hannah: But even with his incredible power, it's clear he isn't perfect. He's somewhat naive and not much of a strategist, preferring to run in and get the job done quickly. This has resulted in him being captured by King Boo, rushing into a haunted mansion...full of ghosts...that he couldn't hurt. Nice one, Mario.
Kaiya: But even with that glaring flaw, Mario has powered through everything. He's prevailed through unlikely odds, giant, fire-breathing turtles, giant dragons, deadly monkeys and even his own rival, and nothing has proven too much for him.
Counter: The Mushroom Kingdom can rest easy when Mario's there to defend them.
(Mario: Luigi! You save-a Mario!)
(Luigi: I did it?)
(Mario: Way to go, number one!)
Maxwell[]
Counter: Son and daughter of famous explorers, Edgar and Julie, and twin siblings to 41 other children. The parents gave all of their children magical artefacts from their adventures, but Maxwell and Lily may have gained the most powerful artefacts possible. Maxwell gained the ability to create anything using a magical notebook, Lily gained a magic globe that let her travel anywhere in the world.
Damien: And being children to rich explorers with amazing artefacts, it was natural that Maxwell and Lily would be spoiled after a while. They started playing tricks on people, but one trick they played changed their life forever. After encountering a beggar, Maxwell had a great plan: Give him a rotten apple.
Kaiya: Wow, low blow. Even I wouldn't do that. Anyway, plot twist, the beggar cursed Lily to slowly turn to stone. And so, Maxwell was tasked with collecting Starites, the embodiment of people's joy and gratitude. He had to solve everyone's problems and make them happy to collect them and free his sister from the curse.
Hannah: But it turned out this was an elaborate prank. Edgar only masqueraded as a beggar to teach them the importance of being kind to others. But he couldn't do it without a little help.
Counter: Maxwell's notebook. Paired with his backpack, which is essentially its own pocket dimension that he can store things in, he's a sight to behold. The notebook can be used to create anything, from the mundane to the supernatural. From a pebble to a particle accelerator. From a snail to a giant monster. You get the idea.
Damien: So, basically. Imagine anything, and Maxwell can create it. Swords, shields, maces, laser guns, bombs, time machines, whatever! Just write it down and voila, there it is!
Kaiya: But that's kinda boring, so let's get to the lethal stuff! Guns, rocket launchers, NUKES! Ha-ha! He can make sniper rifles, machine guns, grenades, miniguns ane everything in between! Even a harpoon gun!
Hannah: He can make dinosaurs, and even scientific principles such as dark matter, which sucks in nearby objects and explodes, particle accelerators, which can make black holes, and even stars. Better yet, the notebook is bounded to Maxwell, and he can telekinetically control any object he makes.
Counter: He can use cloning machines to...clone himself, atoms...which do nothing and he can use teleporters to instantaneously move from one place to another without having to travel through that space.
Damien: He can even create natural disasters like tsunamis, earthquakes, volcanoes and likely even fires, sinkholes, tornadoes, hurricanes and hell, even a meteor, that'll collide with the Earth if he wanted to! But...I hope he doesn't.
Kaiya: He can even create solar systems and galaxies and-wait, what?! Are we seriously just skipping over that? This little prepubescent dingus can create solar systems and galaxies with the flick of a pen?! What the hell?! I gotta get me that notebook!
(Counter chuckles.)
Counter: Funny you should mention that. (He pulls out Maxwell's notebook)
Hannah: Where'd you get that...?
(Kai snatches it out of Counter's hands and begins to scribble in it quickly.)
Counter: Kai, no! Don't! You'll-
(Money, piles of it, appear next to the four quickly. Kai laughs evilly as Counter stares on in shock)
Counter: I stand corrected...Anyway, it's a good thing Kai decided to use the notebook for good, as she could easily create a black hole, killing us all. (Kai drops the notebook quickly. A chuckling Counter picks it back up)
Damien: He can create forcefields, mirrors that reflect projectiles, and even balls of magic that turns people into frogs and rabbits if he wants to! And with the Ultimate Weapon that can kill almost anything, Maxwell is someone you do not wanna mess with!
Hannah: Especially since he can destroy them with ease, or even store them in his backpack with no ill effects. While these objects are powerful, there's something even more dangerous in Maxwell's arsenal: Adjectives.
Kaiya: Oh, what? He's gonna kill me with descriptions, now? I'd like to see him try.
Counter: Careful what you wish for. Like with the Objects, Maxwell can describe himself, objects around him and even his foes and allies with Adjectives, giving them new properties. You have your fairly simple Adjectives such as fast, slow and smart, but increasing the specifics increases his power.
Hannah: You can go from just smart to 'Genius', 'strong' to 'superhuman' and 'fast' to supersonic. But things can get...a little more interesting. With the adjective 'Dead', Maxwell can kill you instantly. With 'Gone', he can erase you from existence and with 'Immobile', he renders the victim unable to move.
Kaiya: 'Regenerative' helps him heal faster, 'Immortal' prevents him from dying in ways other than existence erasure, 'Invisible' turns him...well, frickin' invisible, and 'Interactive' allows Maxwell to interact with incorporeal beings like ghosts and spirits! Oooh, spooky!
Damien: Radioactive makes him...well, radioactive, killing almost anything just by being near them, he can manipulate his size through many adjectives such as 'Colossal' or 'Microscopic'. With 'Incorporeal', Maxwell can become intangible and allows him to fly, and 'Omnipotent' lets him fly and become invincible!
Counter: 'Telekinetic' gives Maxwell the power of telekinesis, 'Frost-Breathing' gives him cryokinetic abilities, and on the other end of the scale, 'Fire-breathing' allows him to shoot flames out of his mouth, but the two can't be stacked together.
Hannah: And with Unavoidable, objects essentially home in on you at supersonic speeds, even flying if they want to! The only way to avoid them is if Maxwell makes himself 'Unnoticeable' or something similar to that. And if he just...never wants to die, he can resurrect himself indefinitely with the 'Ressurective' adjective. This resurrection is basically instantaneous, and can happen as many times as Maxwell wants.
Kaiya: Oh, dang! So, can this guy just not die?
Counter: Not exactly. See, Maxwell has little resistance to Existence Erasure, having to rely on regeneration and resurrection to help him. But, before you try to claim that this means that the notebook isn't as powerful as we thought and that stuff like 'Omnipotent' doesn't actually give him omnipotence, the notebook is able to grant Maxwell omnipotent powers and would have to be powerful enough to kill anyone who has that power or at least take that power away.
Damien: Speaking of power, Maxwell has a lot of it! In comics closely related to the games, Maxwell has survived the destruction of the multiverse, created an Anti-Anti-Monitor, and even made a forcefield that survived an explosion that K.O'd the entire Justice League!
Hannah: And Maxwell surviving the destruction of the multiverse? Yeah, that was done without help from infinite Starites. See, we can see Maxwell and his friends talking about absorbing the Starites in the blank white space, which must have taken place AFTER the multiverse was destroyed. If not, then why would they want to restore it?
Kaiya: Damn! And by absorbing infinite Starites, he was able to restore the multiverse in exact detail, down to the smallest atom! And he's still a beast without help from the sky. He can destroy skyscrapers with nothing more than a sword, survive black holes with adjectives, destroy galaxies and he can create solar systems if he wishes to.
Counter: Maxwell is incredibly fast, and just like we said, capable of moving at supersonic speeds, but can possibly-no, likely go even faster. If it can grant Maxwell omnipotence, it's highly likely that he can use adjectives to move at the speed of light or even faster. He can write fast enough to protect Batman from gunfire and even make things, including himself, hypersonic.
Damien: Maxwell is REALLY strong, but he's not without his flaws! He is just a kid and doesn't really truly understand the full potential of his notebook, and being a kid, he might not think everything through.
Hannah: And Maxwell does have to write a word or adjective in the notebook before he can apply it, meaning that if someone is fast enough, they could remove or even destroy the notebook, leaving Maxwell helpless, like Harry Potter without his wand.
Kaiya: But nothin' will keep Maxwell down for long! If something even resembles a Starite, chances are that Maxwell already has it. He'll continue to save the world, no matter what it takes.
(We see Maxwell collect a Starite, jumping up in the air happily.)
Intermission[]
Counter: Alright, the combatants are set. You guys ready to do this?
Damien: Yeah!
Kaiya: Count me in!
Hannah: Of course.
Counter: Then it's time...FOR A DEATH BATTLE!
Poll[]
Death Battle[]
The sounds of footsteps echoed along the corridor, as a man walked down it. He was wearing brown shoes and a red shirt, with blue overalls covering it, sporting a red cap on his head, which bore the letter 'M'. This was Mario, hero of the Mushroom Kingdom. Mario's eyes wandered around the rooms, his hands curled into fists and raised slightly, waiting for something to jump out at him.
"The Power Star should be around here somewhere..." The cap on Mario's head said. This was Cappy, Mario's friend and companion, who just so happened to be his headwear. Mario nodded slightly, a smile plastered across his face. He reached the end of the corridor and came across two paths: One dark, one full of light. Turning his head to the right, he looked down the bright corridor and saw a great, big, shining star.
Gasping softly, Mario broke into a grin and dashed towards the star, reaching out for the star quickly.
WHOOSH!
Suddenly, the star was gone. Mario blinked, before yelping with shock. Where'd it go? Who took it?! He twisted about, and saw a boy. This boy was wearing a rooster-like hat, with headphones and green shorts. He was wearing a blue shirt with a necklace around his neck, which had a star hanging on the end of it. This was the Scribblenaut Maxwell. Shocked, Mario pointed towards the star.
"Hey! That's-a-mine!" He cried, frowning slightly. Maxwell, confused, shook his head slowly.
"Sorry. I need this. It's for my sister, she's been put under a curse or...something." Mario held a hand to his chin, his mind racing. Was this a trick? One of Bowser's plots? He needed it to rescue Princess Peach, and this boy was trying to take it from him.
"Argh! I need-a that!" Mario tried to explain, but Maxwell simply sighed, and pulled out a notebook. Scribbled inside the notebook was the word 'Hypersonic'. Maxwell pulled out a pencil and began to write. But before he could finish the word, Mario grabbed the necklace and took it off Maxwell's neck.
"Hey! Give it back!" Maxwell demanded, scribbling in his notebook. In the book, he wrote the word 'Strong'. With Mario distracted, Maxwell curled his hand into a fist and plunged it into Mario's stomach, snatching the necklace back and returned it to his neck. "You want it? Come and get it!"
Mario charged towards Maxwell, who, using his hypersonic speed, dived behind Mario and kicked him in the back, sending the red-capped plumber tumbling across the ground. Groaning, Mario stood up and wiped his mouth, his fists raised. Maxwell held the pencil mere inches from the paper, ready to write as much as he could.
FIGHT!
Mario leapt towards Maxwell, fist ignited in flames. He swung downwards, Maxwell hopping backwards at the last second, resulting in Mario's fist smashing into the ground. Hissing with pain, Mario ran towards the Scribblenaut, drawing a fist backwards. Gasping, Maxwell scribbled on the paper. Mere seconds before Mario punched, Maxwell took off into the skies, rising high above the plumber.
"Woah! He can do that?" Cappy asked, astonished. Yelling, Mario threw his hands forwards, flames bursting out of his palms and rocketing towards Maxwell, who yelped in shock. Using his speed, Maxwell weaved through the fireballs, but they smashed into the wall behind him. The flames burst, arcing across Maxwell's back, who screamed in pain, flying to the ground.
"Wa-hoo!" Mario cheered, jumping up into the air to meet Maxwell. He placed his feet on the boy's chest, and pushed off with all his might, rising even higher into the air. Grunting, Maxwell smashed into the floor, sending a shockwave throughout the room, throwing carpets up in the air, smashing windows.
Whimpering slightly due to the pain, Maxwell gripped his pencil harder than ever before, shakily writing a word into the book. Sighing, Maxwell's breathing eased up, he stopped whimpering, and he even stood up. In the book, the word 'Regenerative' was scribbled in shaky letters. Mario landed on the floor with one foot, turning around with one swift motion.
"Get 'em, Mario!" Cappy commanded, Maxwell still regaining his bearings. Fireballs burned through the air around him, but the boy wasn't focused on anything other than his notebook, quickly scribbling two words in the book, as fast as his hypersonic hands would allow. Two fireballs were right on the mark, flying right towards the boy, but right before they smashed into his face, they crashed against something invisible.
"Oh, mamma-mia!" Mario sighed. Maxwell smirked, as a mirror poofed into existence in his hands. Mario gaped slightly, before releasing fireball after fireball after fireball, again and again. They all flew towards the Scribblenaut, but again, they all crashed into the forcefield Maxwell created around himself.
Grunting with frustration, Mario jumped forwards, bringing his fist backwards. Maxwell scribbled in his book, spawning a sword in his right hand. Mario smashed his fist into the forcefield, the energy knocking Maxwell over. With a 'SMASH!', the forcefield broke! Yelling, Maxwell scrambled backwards, raising his mirror and sword. Smiling, Mario released a bundle of flame, all flying towards Maxwell.
Squeezing his eyes shut, Maxwell raised his mirror, waiting for the fire. The flames smashed into the mirror...and reflected off of them, heading right towards Mario! The flames collided with Mario's chest, knocking him backwards, into the wall. Angry, Mario glared at Maxwell, who smiled and threw his mirror away.
Raising his sword, Maxwell charged forwards, almost too fast for Mario to keep track of! Almost. With a grunt, Mario kicked out, his foot smacking into the flat side of the blade, and snapping it in two. Gasping, Maxwell looked at the broken remains of his sword. Mario smiled, sinking a fist into Maxwell's stomach, then one in his cheek, then one to his side. Over and over, he released a flurry of punches upon the young Scribblenaut, before launching him away with an uppercut.
Screaming, Maxwell flew backwards, tumbling across the carpeted floor of the corridor. Clapping his hands together, Mario released a wall of flame in Maxwell's direction. The wall of flames got closer...and closer.
Gasping, Maxwell scribbled in his book, sucking in a deep breath. Grunting with determination, Maxwell released his breath, which came out in the form of ice! The ice met the fire, resulting in an explosion so powerful it launched both fighters to either end of the corridor. Cappy slid off Mario's head, landing upside down on the floor.
"Urgh...he can shoot ice as well? Who is this guy?" Cappy groaned as Mario places him back on his head. Mario took a moment to regain his balance, before reaching into his pockets. Searching wildly, Mario latched onto a flower and pulled it out of his pockets. The flower was blue, with a white face and a green stem.
"Oh, yeah!" Mario said with excitement, pressing it to his chest. In an instant, Mario's overalls turned red, and his shirt and cap turned blue.
"Woah! Mario, I didn't know you could do that!" Cappy commented, astounded. Smiling, Mario readied for Maxwell's next attack. However, Maxwell had other plans. Scribbling wildly, Maxwell spawned a laser gun out of thin air, gripping it tightly. Mario gasped, as a laser rocketed through the air and burned through the wall behind him.
"Wah?!" Mario yelled, jumping to the side to avoid the volley of lasers coming his way. Grunting, Maxwell fired again, Mario jumped to the left, slowly getting closer and closer. Anticipating an attack, Maxwell made himself a 'Martial Artist' quickly, firing more lasers at the plumber.
Mario jumped between the shots, slowly getting closer and closer to the Scribblenaut. Maxwell gasped, and threw his laser gun to the side, raising his fists in defence. Mario punched forwards, forcing Maxwell to step backwards quickly. The plumber reacted quickly, firing a blast of cold in Maxwell's direction. Without skipping a beat, Maxwell leaned backwards, the blast of cold missing his face by mere inches.
He responded by blowing frost out of his mouth, catching Mario by surprise. Ice built up around Mario's left arm, immobilising it. With a yell, Maxwell kicked Mario backwards, into a wall, blowing even more ice towards the plumber. The ice reached over Mario's body, encasing his torso in a cold blanket.
"Ice try!" Maxwell commented, touching pencil to paper. He started to write. One letter: D. The other letter: E. Another letter: A! Screaming, Mario used all of his strength to bust out of the ice prison, charging forward. All Maxwell had to write was another 'D'! He started with the vertical line, ready to drag it sideways-
WHAM! A punch from Mario caught Maxwell off-guard as his pencil sped across the page. The word Maxwell wrote? 'Deal'. Groaning, Maxwell watched as a businessman appeared from nowhere, holding out his hand for some form of handshake.
Mario wasn't wasting this opportunity. He rushed forwards, knocking Maxwell backwards on the floor with a kick. The young Scribblenaut scrambled backwards, but one ball of ice smashed into Maxwell's left arm, pinning him to the ground in an instant. Another ice ball froze his right arm. One last ice ball froze his legs in place. Maxwell was 100% stuck now.
"Wa-hoo!" Mario whooped happily, snatching the Starite necklace from Maxwell's neck quickly. Angry, Maxwell couldn't reach his book to escape, leaving him open to a kick from Mario that sent him rolling across the floor, smashing the ice that was holding him in place. Coughing, Maxwell got to his feet, applying another adjective to his body.
'Immortal'. Laughing, Maxwell wrote in the book some more, spawning a rocket launcher next to his feet in a puff of smoke. Smirking slightly, Maxwell snatched the rocket launcher from the ground and aimed it right towards Mario's head, who glared angrily, reaching behind his back.
Maxwell launched the rocket, which barrelled towards the plumber at blinding speeds. Smiling, Mario drew a tennis racquet from seemingly nowhere, readying himself. Maxwell watched with interest. The rocket got closer and closer to Mario, who, with a yell of determination, swung the racquet with all of his force.
Instead of blowing up in Mario's face as he anticipated, Maxwell watched as the rocket bounced off the racquet, and flew right back towards him. Sighing, Maxwell resigned himself to applying the 'Indestructible' adjective to his notebook, mere milliseconds before the rocket collided.
KA-BOOM!
The force of the explosion launched Maxwell through the wall, entering a large parlour, with three stairs going in different directions. They all lead to doors with strange stars on them, with numbers on the stars. He supposed it was just room numbers. Maxwell was able to catch himself from hitting the ground, hovering high up in the air. Mario jumped through the hole in the wall, in a strange orange suit, with what looked like helicopter blades.
"What the-?" Maxwell began, but he cut himself off. Mario flew up to his level in an instant, and with a kick, slammed Maxwell back down to the ground. Groaning, Maxwell tried to get to his feet, but Mario didn't give him a chance. He spun around, faster than he had ever spun before, becoming an orange blur in the air.
He spun down as blinding speeds, right on top of Maxwell, burying him into the ground. Screaming, Maxwell desperately tried to scramble away, but it was worthless to try. After burying the Scribblenaut in the ground, Mario jumped off, waiting for his reaction. Standing up, Maxwell jumped backwards, smiling.
Scribbling quickly, Maxwell twisted the notebook around, revealing two words: 'Telekinetic' and 'Dark Matter'. From right behind Mario, Dark Matter spawned from nowhere, slowly bringing Mario closer to it. Screaming, Mario scrambled forwards, even using the Propeller Suit to shoot himself up into the air.
Maxwell wrote in his book once more, spawning a Cloning Machine next to him in a cloud of smoke. He stepped onto it quickly, cloning himself, while watching Mario desperately try to escape from the Dark Matter. But its pull was too strong, dragging Mario towards it in a flash. Upon mere impact with the Dark Matter, it exploded, launching Mario towards the Scribblenaut, who caught him with his mind quickly.
Yelling with shock, Mario tried to escape Maxwell's telekinetic power, but couldn't. Smirking, Maxwell used his mind to smash Mario into every wall in the parlour. The wall, the roof, the floor, all of them. Mario was returned back into his normal attire by a particularly hard impact with the roof. Grunting, Maxwell threw Mario into the wall opposite of him, stepping off the Cloning Machine quickly.
"Oh...Mamma..." The plumber groaned, searching in his pockets for something else. He pulled out a Super Mushroom and smiled. Not what he needed, but considering the circumstances...
He held the mushroom to his chest and took it in. Immediately, he felt bigger and stronger. He looked bigger, too. Energy spread throughout his body. He was ready to jump back in and fight! Standing up, Mario turned...and saw an army of Maxwells, all holding their own notebooks. Gasping, Mario reached into his pockets once more, pulling out cherries. Lots of cherries.
The two armies both pulled out their weapons. The Marios all ignited their fists and all the Maxwells readied their pencils. The two armies glared at each other, but the real Mario and Maxwell locked eyes, although they had no idea each other was the real one. The Maxwells all scribbled in their notebooks, spawning tens of hundreds of laser guns, that all of them gripped lightly.
"Let's-a-go!" One of the Marios called. At once, the army of Marios charged forwards, as the Maxwells steadied their laser guns, all of them pulling the triggers. Lasers, bright as the Sun, all rocketed forwards. While mosts Marios managed to dodge the lasers, some were hit square in the chest, disappearing in a puff of smoke.
Likewise, some of the Marios jumped forwards and landed a devastating punch on the Maxwells, who also disappeared. It was like an all-out war. The real Maxwell and Mario were yet to fight, simply watching as their armies fought. Maxwell watched as some of his clones jumped backwards from a kick from several Marios, and watched as a Tyrannosaurus Rex appeared from nothing, biting down on one Mario, eradicating him.
The real Maxwell and Mario looked at each other once more, and that's when they saw the most curious thing. One Maxwell punched Mario, and he didn't disappear. Angrily, Mario retaliated with an uppercut that destroyed the Maxwell in one fell swoop. This...this was the real Mario! Charging forwards, Maxwell scribbled in his book, spawning a sword that he latched onto quickly, swinging it wildly.
Maxwell thrust it forwards, but Mario jumped backwards, narrowly avoiding the tip. Taking a step forwards, Maxwell swung his sword in a wild arc that sliced through a Maxwell and Mario, destroying them. Reacting quickly, Mario pulled out a Metal Cap and threw it on himself.
"Wa-hoo!" He cried as the sword crashed into his hip. The vibration from the attack travelled up the blade of the sword, to the hilt, before dispersing in Maxwell's arm, causing him to yell out in pain. On Mario's body, the metal sword began to vibrate...before snapping into many different pieces.
Smiling, Mario slammed a metal fist into Maxwell's face, sending the young Scribblenaut stumbling backwards, dizzy and discombobulated. Twisting around, three other Maxwells noticed the original's vulnerability, and, heart thumping in their chest, they jumped in front of Mario, who stopped dead in his tracks.
One Maxwell shook his head, opening his book quickly, scratching something into the pages. In front of him, a monster spawned, looking down at Mario with an angry smile. His green hand reached out, extending his fingers, ready to grab onto Mario, who raised his fists in defence. Inches from latching onto the Metal Mario, two fists sent the monster high into the air, crashing through the roof, showering them all in a mixture of plaster and wood.
Two Marios had double-uppercut the monster away and were now smiling at the original Mario, unaware of the three Maxwells charging towards them. The two Marios were no match for the three Maxwells, who punched the Mario's to oblivion. Groaning, Metal Mario ran forwards, delivering a punch so mighty it destroyed two renders, leaving one clone and the original Maxwell to fight against him.
Balance regained, the original Maxwell jumped forwards, but he was done fooling around. Scribbling furiously, a strange gun, with different coloured panels spawned in his hands. It was almost like something from science fiction, something from the future. Cappy let out a small yell, as Mario looked on in confusion.
"Woah! Mario! What do you think that is-?" He was interrupted by a pink projectile colliding with Mario's chest. Smirking, Maxwell turned the notebook around, revealing the words 'Mind Control Device'. Screaming, Cappy realised what had happened.
"Mario! Throw me!" He had an idea. Using the last of his willpower, Mario reached towards Cappy, his arms shaking. One part of Mario was desperately trying to take the hat and throw it towards Maxwell, but another part was telling him...convincing him to protect Maxwell! Groaning, Mario tried to resist it, but it was no use. His eyes turned to pink swirls, as he slowly shambled towards Maxwell, hell-bent on protecting him.
"M-Mario! What are you doing?!" Capp cried, but Mario was beyond reason. The other Marios turned to look at him, with Maxwell smugly waving behind him. Grunting with frustration, one Mario jumped forwards, ready to land a punch that would knock Maxwell's gun out of his hands-
POOF!
An uppercut from Mario stopped the attack dead in its tracks. Three other Mario's charged, but this time, two Marios flanked the Maxwell, running to either side of him. The third Mario jumped high up into the air, soaring over the two and landing behind Maxwell, twisting around quickly. The original Mario turned, fireballs forming in his palms.
"Mario, stop!" Cappy yelled, but it was too late. The original Mario fired volleys of fireballs towards the clones. Two Marios jumped out of the way in time, responding with their own fireballs that hurled Mario into the wall. One clone Mario was lost to the flames, body disappearing in smoke.
There was still a small group of Marios, about 4-5 of them, all ready to take on Maxwell, who stepped forwards, opening up his notebook with a grunt. The group of Marios charged forwards, ready to overpower the Scribblenaut. There was more strength in numbers, right?
Scribbling wildly, Maxwell grabbed a grenade from the air, ripping the pin out and throwing it at one of the Marios. The grenade turned the Mario to smoke and bounced off the wall, slowly rolling...right back to Maxwell. Gasping, Maxwell started to scribble, spawning a forcefield around himself in the blink of an eye.
With a flash of light that stunned the cloned Marios, the grenade detonated, the sheer force lifting Maxwell up and off the ground, launching him across the foyer. The 5 Marios were reduced to nothing before they had a chance to realise what had happened, the grenade spawning a crater in the ground. Groaning, Maxwell landed on top of something hard and...metallic? Whatever it was, he shattered it.
"Urgh...what was in that?" Maxwell murmured, brushing himself off. He looked over to the original Mario, mid-way through a punch that disintegrated the last clone before he stopped and turned towards Maxwell. Smiling, Maxwell held his thumb up, but Mario didn't return the favour. With horror that sent his heart all the way down to his shoes, Maxwell realised Mario's eyes weren't pink anymore. Twisting around, Maxwell saw the mind-control device lying on the floor...in pieces.
Furious, Mario charged forwards, aiming to punch every inch of Maxwell he could reach, but he only punched a blue sphere around him. Laughing, Maxwell crossed his arms as he watched Mario punch the forcefield over and over again, only for it to not budge. But Mario had an idea. With a click of his fingers, Mario pulled out a Boo Mushroom and held it to his chest.
Suddenly, Mario was gone, replaced by an eerie laugh from some spirit, something not quite human. Breathing heavily, Maxwell looked around but saw nothing. Did Mario leave? Or was he planning some sort of...surprise attack? Well, he got his answer, but not in the way that he'd hoped.
Out of nowhere, and inside of Maxwell's forcefield, Mario reappeared, fist drawn back. With a grunt, he released a punch that knocked Maxwell to the floor, before pulling out another white mushroom and disappearing.
"What the-?!" Maxwell yelled, opening the notebook. He needed to be smarter to figure this one out...but just 'Smart' wasn't going to cut it. Maxwell needed to be a genius. Tongue between his teeth, Maxwell wrote 'Genius' in his notebook and applied it to himself. Instantly, Maxwell felt more than twice as smart, as glasses poofed into existence on his face.
"Well, it seems my opponent can turn invisible as well as intangible..." Maxwell began, standing in a defensive position. "Based on the white and ghostly appearance of the mushroom he ingested, I have reason to believe..." Maxwell wrote a word in his notebook. "That my opponent...has transformed into a ghost!" With a grunt, he punched forwards, connecting with Boo Mario, launching him backwards.
Maxwell turned the notebook and allowed Mario to see the words written on his notebook. 'Interactive'. Smiling, Maxwell spawned a sword, snatching it from the air quickly. Putting his notebook away, the intelligent Scribblenaut's mind raced once more.
His best move would be to attack from behind after turning invisible, so- He was interrupted when Mario disappeared. Scoffing slightly, Maxwell let his arms drop to his sides. Smiling to himself, Mario floated behind Maxwell, phasing through his forcefield. He was ready to attack, Maxwell had no idea...
But suddenly, Maxwell's head turned, and with a swish of the sword, Boo Mario was returned to regular Mario. Grunting with confusion, Mario looked at Maxwell with frustration.
"You know...this isn't very fair, heh. Here, I'll remove my forcefield." Maxwell said with a smile, erasing the shield with a simple word. While confused, Mario wasn't complaining about Maxwell's decision. Within milliseconds, he was within punching distance of the young Scribblenaut, raining blow after blow upon him. Fists connected with Maxwell's stomach, arms, face. One particularly strong punch from Mario shattered Maxwell's glasses, sending him stumbling backwards.
Spots appeared in his vision as Maxwell tried to regain his balance, holding a hand to his head. With a pained grunt, Maxwell opened the notebook and held a pencil to it, beginning to write. However, Mario had a plan, pulling out a yellow bell. He threw the bell in the air, bringing his foot backwards. As the bell fell, Mario threw his foot forwards, launching the bell towards Maxwell, transforming him in a flash of light.
Maxwell winced, squeezing his eyes shut, waiting for pain...a burning, a stinging, an aching, maybe. Nothing. Not even a prick, like a needle. He felt nothing. Slowly opening one eye, Maxwell looked at Mario, who waved at him happily. Did it miss? Smirking, Maxwell held up his book...that wasn't in his hands.
"What?!" The Scribblenaut screeched, looking down at his hands. Instead of being met with his gloves, Maxwell saw paws, cat paws! They had claws sticking out of the fingers, but that wasn't the half of it. He was in a catsuit! Confused, he turned around, trying to pry the suit off his body. Using his distraction as an opportunity, Mario pulled out another bell and pressed it to his chest.
A bright light illuminated the wall in front of him, pulling Maxwell's mouth open. Twisting around, he saw Mario on the floor, on all fours, staring at him angrily. He was ready to pounce, the genius Maxwell could tell, but he had no book anymore! Who was this guy?!
Yowling, Mario hurled himself forwards, unleashing his claws in a swipe that sliced open Maxwell's cheek. Screaming, Maxwell stumbled backwards, holding a clawed hand to his cheek, which was leaking red blood. Gasping shakily, Maxwell let his arms fall to the ground. Smiling, the plumber charged forwards with a yell, propelling himself into the air with his feet. Maxwell gasped, as Mario hurtled towards him, delivering a kick so mighty it shook the parlour, causing Maxwell to squeal in horror.
The kick was so powerful it separated Maxwell from the catsuit. Literally. The millisecond his foot connected with Maxwell's stomach, the Catsuit disappeared with a 'poof'. Rolling across the floor, the bleeding Maxwell shakily got to his feet. He immediately looked at his hands. Good. His notebook and pencil were there.
Holding a pencil to his page, Maxwell smiled as he began to scribble a word that would bring destruction to all. In front of him, an object that looked kind of like a missile spawned, crashing to the ground quickly. The missile was beeping, it had a red tip, and on its side, there was a radioactive symbol-
It was a nuke! Mario realised this the second it dropped to the ground, and his mouth opened wider than it had ever been before, letting out a scream that almost shattered the windows of the foyer. He shuffled through his pockets, sweat pouring down his face until he pulled out a star. Mario pressed it to his chest the second time stopped.
Light filled the room, followed by a fireball that enveloped both Mario and Maxell. The force from the eruption launched the two fighters away, as a thermal pulse boomed across the land, setting fire to everything that could burn. The foyer was no more, followed by the rest of the castle, as the fireball evaporated everything inside.
Maxwell regretted his attack the second it commenced, smoke and ash covered his body like a two-ton blanket, burying the Scribblenaut in a cloud of grey. Mario wasn't fairing much better, either. While the Star protected him from lethal damage, he was still able to feel pain, as the bomb set fire to everything.
Screaming, the Scribblenaut held a pencil to his burn, making himself 'Inexhaustible' with the Notebook. Just in case. A mushroom cloud, full of the debris, smoke and ash from the explosion, rose into the air, displaying its destruction to everyone who looked in that direction. The grass that used to exist was just...gone.
Mario's Star ran out as the shockwaves crashed into his body, throwing him onto the ground. He rummaged through his pockets once more, pulling out an orange and red mushroom, bigger than his head. Breathing deeply, Mario pressed the mushroom to his chest and erupted up into the air. Bigger than a building, Mario looked around for a sign for the boy, who watched Mario grow with horror.
The young Scribblenaut spied with horror as Mario charged forwards, his footsteps shaking the Earth, knocking him off his feet. The plumber raised his hands into the air, and with a smile, drove his right palm into Maxwell's body, burying him in the ground and kicking dust up into the air.
"Night-nighty..." He sighed, shrinking back down to regular size. He turned his head to look at the unconscious Maxwell, lying on the ground to his side. Slightly worn out, Mario fell on his knees, trying to catch his breath, the force from the nuclear bomb making it hard to inhale. The Scribblenaut stirred, groaning slightly.
"Ow...not fair!" He spat at Mario, hopping to his feet in an instant. He took in a deep breath and scribbled in his book, grabbing a sword that popped into existence next to him. Charging forwards, Maxwell let out a yell, holding his sword high. Staring at the boy with a mix of exasperation and frustration, he pulled out a red cap. It looked just like Cappy, except it had white wings on it.
Donning the cap, Mario crouched, waiting for the perfect opportunity. Maxwell got closer, closer, even closer still. When he was within striking distance, Mario took his opportunity to launch himself forwards, grabbing Maxwell by the hips. He dropped the sword quickly, as Mario held onto him. They flew higher and higher, until the air was too thin to breathe. Even when affected by orbit, Mario didn't let up, flying even higher! The temperatures dropped to freezing, as unfiltered sunlight washed over them. Any lesser person would die in seconds.
The shadow of the nuke still echoed across the land, even from space. They could see the dust and the remnants of the mushroom cloud. Breathing heavily, Maxwell gripped his notebook tightly. He could still fly, luckily.
"Holy moly..." He commented, looking down at the destruction he had caused. Drawing his fist back, Mario grunted, rushing forwards with a flap of his wings. Inches from Maxwell, Mario swung his fist downwards...and hit nothing. At the last second, the hypersonic Scribblenaut sidestepped the attack. Mario's momentum carried him further forwards, Maxwell following up with a kick to Mario's back that sent him flying towards the Moon. He crashed into it with enough force to form a crater, grunting in pain.
"Ow! Okay...let's-a-play..." Mario grunted to himself, rolling to his feet quickly. Rustling through his overalls, Mario ripped out a rainbow star and took it in, surrounded with a blinding aura in seconds. Yelling, Mario jumped off the Moon, his Wing Cap carrying him towards Maxwell at speeds past comprehension. Bringing his fist back, Maxwell awaited the plumber's attack.
Yelling, both of them threw their fists forwards, both of them slamming right into the other's fist. Hissing with the pain, the two of them shook their hand painfully, before glaring at each other once more. Mario made the move first, charging forwards with an outstretched hand, catching the Scribblenaut in the stomach, but Mario didn't stop there. As his Rainbow Star faded, the Wing Cap kept him flying forwards at blinding speeds. They passed Earth...then Venus...then Mercury.
With horror, Maxwell realised what he was trying to do. Scrambling to write, Maxwell repeated one word three times: 'Indestructible'. Applying it to his notebook, pencil and backpack, Maxwell hurriedly stuffed the notebook and pencil into his bag, as Mario kept his fist firmly planted in Maxwell's stomach.
"Hey! Let me go!" Maxwell cried out, but Mario wasn't listening. Grabbing onto the boy's feet, Mario began to spin. He spun faster and faster until the two were nothing but a red and blue blur. Maxwell wanted to throw up. In fact, he could feel the bile building in his throat, before, in an instant, Mario stopped spinning. He pulled Maxwell backwards.
"So long-a, child!" He shouted, hurling Maxwell towards the Sun faster than the eye could track. Screaming, Maxwell could feel the heat from the Sun burning his neck, scratching at his back, singing his clothing. With one final yell, Maxwell plunged into the sun with a sizzle. It was like water on a hot pan. A sizzle, and then nothing.
Sighing, Mario let his body relax and arms drop to his side. Breathing deeply, Mario only dimly registered the wings on his cap disappearing with a 'poof!' And then, out of nowhere, a sun spike erupted from the star, throwing forwards a boy, who glared at Mario with loathing, charging forwards without so much as a moment of hesitation.
"MARIO!" He roared, pulling out his notebook in a flash. He scribbled in it with a slash of his pencil, growing collosol in an instant. He was bigger than buildings and certainly bigger than Mario, who let out a noise of disbelief and fear. He rummaged through his pockets, pulling out a brown leaf...a second too late. With a boom, Maxwell's fist collided with Mario's face, blasting him into the nearest planet, Mercury.
"Oh...no..." The plumber sighed, pulling out yet another brown leaf and transforming within the blink of an eye. He had dropped the other one as a result of Maxwell's punch. Not allowing another second of being defenceless, Mario pressed the leaf to his chest and transformed with a flash of light. Now sporting a brown suit and tail, Mario launched himself into space, flying right towards Maxwell, who drew a fist back.
The two collided in an instant, but the millisecond before they could, Mario's body turned to stone, a statue, hard and unmoving. Maxwell's fist smashed into the stone, the energy of the punch turning around and heading right back up the sender's arm...building up at his shoulder...
SNAP! Screaming, Maxwell's arm retreated, the bones in it shattered. With a yell, Mario became animate once more, as if he was never stone, to begin with. Shaking violently, Maxwell held his shoulder, tears stinging the corner of his eyes. Distracted, Maxwell ignored Mario slowly floating behind him, his hand curling into a fist, his other arm pointing right back to Earth.
"Bye-bye!" The plumber yelled, releasing a fist, surrounded by flames and almost pulsating with energy, right into the Scribblenaut's back. Screaming from the combined pain from his arm and his back, Maxwell didn't care about winning the battle anymore, he didn't care about the fact that he was flying towards the Earth at Mach speeds, all he wanted was for the pain to be over. He wanted the pain gone!
But as he entered the atmosphere, another pain erupted from every area of his body as he ignited into flames, rocketing towards the ground at speeds past imagining. Mario was close behind, his eyes burning with hatred, intoxicated by the Scribblenaut fighting him. He also burst into flames, but it didn't hurt him as it had hurt Maxwell.
Opening his eyes and twisting around, Maxwell painfully pulled out his notebook and pencil, unphased from the flames. He spotted a small scrap of an empty page and began to write, tears floating out of his eyes and joining the moisture in the atmosphere. The word?
'Healed' With another crack that sent chills down Maxwell's spine, the bones in his arm healed themselves, although it wasn't any less painful. In fact, it hurt more. But as Mario flew towards him even faster, Maxwell had to act! As the plumber went in for another punch, Maxwell wrote once more.
'Normal'. With a cloud of smoke, Mario was ripped from his Tanooki Suit, sporting his red and blue overalls once more. With a noise of confusion, Mario grabbed at his overalls, panic flashed through his face. Screaming likely louder than Maxwell was, the two of them flew closer and closer to the Earth, crashing to the ground with an impact similar to a meteor strike, a crater carved into the ground.
The two fighters slowly got to their feet. Mario was still in top condition, while Maxwell was slowly healing.
"Ooh, Mario! Throw me!" This was from Cappy. With a noise of affirmation and determination, Mario ripped Cappy from his head and flicked him towards Maxwell, who let out a yell. But he had an idea. Using his hypersonic speeds, Maxwell ripped his backpack off his shoulders and opened it up in one swift motion, scooping Cappy up inside of it.
"WAH?!" Mario cried, holding his hands to his head, helplessly watching as Maxwell closed the backpack, locking Cappy away. However, Maxwell wasn't finished, scribbling in the notebook once more, breathing heavily. Ready to attack, Mario raised his fists, but was interrupted by a loud rumbling from somewhere...underneath them?
With a small salute, Maxwell pushed himself off the ground, flying high into the air. Twisting around, Mario saw a wave, a tsunami, taller than buildings tumbling towards him. The waves ripped at the ground. Yelling, Mario rummaged through his pockets, looking for something...anything!
But what he pulled out was not what he wanted. A Mini Mushroom. Really? One of the worst power-ups against a tsunami?!
Wait! The Mini Mushroom...allowed Mario to walk on water! Laughing, Mario held it to his chest, and it seemed to Maxwell like he had disintegrated on impact. The wave crashed over the place where Mario was...and nothing. All was quiet. Sighing, Maxwell let his arms a drop, a look of relief on his face.
"Lets-a do it!" Came a tiny, high-pitched voice from somewhere around him. Where was it coming from? He couldn't see Mario nor could any other sense detect him. Even his hearing was playing tricks on him. With one noise, Mario was in his left ear, but with another, he was in Maxwell's right.
"What the-Where'd he go?" He asked the sky, as he heard a tiny, Italian voice snicker. But then Maxwell felt it, small feet pittering and pattering over his arm. It was distracting, and it itched! Oh God, how it itched! Letting out a groan, Maxwell tried to scratch his arm, but the itch travelled whenever he tried to scratch it!
Accompanied by a tiny yell, he saw a small red and blue blur fly towards his face. Mini Mario threw his fists into Maxwell's cheek, sending Maxwell back down to the ground. What?! How could a tiny plumber hold that much power? Pulling out a Super Mushroom, Mario turned to normal size, but nothing could have prepared Mario for what happened next.
He couldn't move. No matter how hard he tried, no matter what he tried, Mario was stuck, but nothing was holding him in place! He was just...frozen! Mario was more than confused, but he got his answer when Maxwell turned his notebook around, revealing the scribble 'Immobile', scratchy, messy, but there all the same. So that was it. Maxwell had disabled his ability to walk!
Smiling, Maxwell wrote another object into existence. A particle accelerator. It looked big, complicated and dangerous. With his telekinetic power, Maxwell lifted the immobile Mario up and into the air, flinging him inside the particle accelerator. Within a flash, Maxwell spawned one last object and removed one adjective from Mario. A Mad Scientist appeared from nowhere, wasting no time in rushing over to the particle accelerator, and turning it on.
Mario could move again, but he thought it might have been better if he couldn't. Particles sped up around him, the energy built up, the heat and the power becoming more and more intense, almost like it was something tangible, something he could see. Confused, Mario looked around, trying to figure out what was happening to him.
But he couldn't. The particles ripped a small hole in Mario's chest, as the energy only grew. Screaming, Mario fell to his knees, his hands to his head, not seeing, not hearing, only feeling. The energy was too much, it was like every single atom in his body was melting all at once!
Screaming louder, Mario could feel something bubbling in his body. Blood was spilling onto the floor, the energy infiltrating his body, overpowering him, destroying him. However, the blood wasn't the thing that was boiling inside of him!
With a dull thought, Mario knew that it was water. The water inside of his body was evaporating quickly as the energy became too much, he could feel himself growing weaker by the second, more and more water was leaving his body. Within seconds, all the water was gone from his body. He was an empty husk, a mere shell of the hero he used to be. As the particle accelerator shut down and the Mad Scientist ran, Maxwell was left to observe.
One scribble in his notebook and the particle accelerator was gone, leaving only the shadow of a person Mario's corpse used to be. As the blood poured from the hole in Mario's chest, Maxwell wrote in his notebook one last time. A bouquet of flowers appeared in his hands, as the Scribblenaut walked over to the plumber and gently placed the flowers on his chest. He held his star necklace tightly. Such a stupid thing to fight over.
"You certainly gave me a run for my money..." He said with finality, turning and walking away from the corpse, not daring to look back.
K.O!
Conclusion[]
Kaiya: Damn...killed by science. I always knew it was bad for you.
Counter: This was a surprisingly close match-up. Both fighters held their own advantages, and neither clearly outclassed the other.
Damien: Like how while Maxwell could technically move faster, due to being able to move at hypersonic speeds, which maxes out at Mach 10 -Mach 5 at the least-, Mario could pilot the Star Diver, which can move at Mach 300 speeds, 30x faster!
Hannah: And Mario was physically stronger, through kicking away a castle and scaling to Wario. Maxwell really can't match that in his base form, and even his strength adjectives only go as far as to say 'Super strong' and things like that, so it's incredibly vague at best. Mario would have definitely won an arm-wrestling contest.
Kaiya: But when it came to destructive potential, Maxwell took it by a lot. Maxwell, with his notebook, could create black holes, galaxies and entire constellations without so much as flinching, and he could destroy them with ease as well. While Mario is strong and has taken down cosmic-level threats before, he can't destroy a galaxy in one go, and if Maxwell absorbed infinite Starites, he can recreate the multiverse. So, with or without Starites, it's safe to say Maxell took it by a fair bit.
Counter: And durability also went to Maxwell. While Mario does scale to Wario, who survived a dimension collapsing in his face, Maxwell can survive the destruction of the multiverse, even without Starites on his side. And theoretically, it wouldn't be hard for Maxwell to absorb the Starites again. He initially absorbed them by transforming the energy of the impact from the Monitor and Anti-Monitor into Starites and absorbing them.
Damien: But since Maxwell can create the Anti-Monitor and Monitor with his notebook, he could theoretically recreate the circumstances and absorb the Starites all over again, tipping the scales even more!
Kaiya: In experience, Mario took it by a long shot. While Maxwell has gone through a lot, he only has a handful of games and experiences, Mario has been around for 35 years and counting, and has faced nearly every foe imaginable in over hundreds of games. Maxwell couldn't beat that.
Hannah: Skill largely played out the same. Mario's vast history and experience dealing with many foes gave him an advantage over Maxwell's creative, but somewhat blunt fighting style. If it was based on these factors alone, Mario likely could have won, but versatility managed to tip the scaled in Maxwell's favour.
Counter: Yeah, more specifically, Maxwell's adjectives. With his wide array of power-ups and skill, it was likely that while many of Maxwell's abilities could throw him off, nothing would directly overpower him, but Maxwell's adjectives were a different story. While many shared the same powers, Maxwell had abilities and then some.
Damien: He could breathe fire and ice like Mario could fly like Mario could duplicate himself like Mario could, but he had many abilities that Mario couldn't deal with. Like instantly killing someone regardless of durability, erasing something from existence instantly, stopping them from moving and countering literally every power-up that Mario had. Even stranger ones like Boo Mario, Maxwell could counter with adjectives such as 'Unavoidable', 'Interactive' and 'Normal'.
Kaiya: Yep, with adjectives, Maxwell could pretty much undo any progress Mario could have made. He can make himself immortal and regenerative and turn Mario back to normal whenever he became particularly intimidating. Mario couldn't really deal with that. Couple that with Maxwell being able to make himself things like a genius in seconds, Mario had little to actually do to Maxwell, let alone kill him.
Hannah: But don't get us wrong, Maxwell wasn't unstoppable. If Mario could, say, erase Maxwell from existence instantly, then he likely had a solid way of killing the Scribblenaut, and it is possible that Mario could get a kill in before Maxwell got serious, but considering their relatively even physical stats, it would be hard for Mario to do.
Counter: If Mario could separate Maxwell from the notebook, he could likely get a quick kill in, but considering their stats and the fact that Maxwell can become telekinetic if he pleases, it would be extremely hard to do before Maxwell could get a lethal blow in.
Damien: In short, while this battle was fairly close, Maxwell had the durability, strength and descriptive power to tip the scales in his favour.
Kaiya: Looks like Mario's chances of winning...dried up.
Counter: The winner is Maxwell.
