Rattled: Speed increases by 1 stage each time he's hit by a Bug, Ghost, or Dark-type attack

Old Magikarps can jump above mountains, and survive the fall.

Can survive falling hard enough to bust a hole in the ground.
Unharmed when Meowth tried to bite him.

Takes 2X damage from Grass & Electric-type attacks
The lowest total base-stats of any Gen 1 Pokemon other than Weedle and Caterpie and (tied with Feebas for) lowest total base-stats of any water Pokemon other than Wishiwashi (solo form).
- The lowest ATK of any Gen 1 Pokemon other than Chansey.
- The lowest HP of any Gen 1 Pokemon other than Diglett.
- Lowest Special of any Gen 1 Pokemon. (Tied with Carvanha for) Lowest Special Defense of any Pokemon.

His Normal-only moveset means he has no options in fighting against a Ghost type (except with Struggle).
- However some rare Magikarp can learn Bounce, Dragon Rage and Hydro Pump.

- Its swimming muscles are weak, & is easily overwhelmed by basic river or ocean currents. [4]
They recklessly leap for no apparent reason, leaving them vulnerable to predators like Pidgeotto. [5]

Splash: (Normal, Status) Uselessly flops around.
Tackle: (Normal, Physical Performs a full-body charge into the foe.
Flail: (Normal, Physical) Flails about aimlessly, dealing more damage the less HP the user has.

Bounce: (Flying, Physical) Jumps high into the air before crashing down on the enemy, 30% chance to induce paralysis.

Bubble: (Water, Special) Sprays bubbles at the foe, 10% chance of lowering the target's Speed by 1 stage.
Dragon Rage: (Dragon, Special) Fires a shock wave of pure rage, dealing fixed damage on the target.

It is possible for a Magikarp to one-shot most other Pokemon using Stat Boosts, (normally by a Smeargle) a Baton Pass, a Focus Stash (to keep Magikarp's HP as 1) and Flail. This method isn't guaranteed in all situations though.
Their incredible fertility has allowed them to escape extinction, even though they are weak
- In fact, they serve as a food source that has allowed other Pokemon to survive as well
The only Pokemon in Gen 1 that can be found via the Old Rod.
- Can be fished out of Pokemon gyms.
- Apparently Magikarp can be found in puddles too.
Unlike most Pokemon, Magikarp come in many different colors & patterns.
