Description[]
As one of the most iconic video game characters there is, it's no surprise Mario's got a lot of fanon versions. And some of the most interesting come from the horror genre.
Such as the unwilling puppet forced to fight for his life and sanity from (Mario) The Music Box
And the cursed spirit eternally seeking vengeance from Five Nights at Wario's
I'm Soupywolf5, and it's my job to answer the questions you've never asked! Which of these two combatants would win, a Death Battle!
Note: While MTMB Mario's save and load ability is heavily implied and eventually outright confirmed to be canon, it's being restricted for this fight in order to make it more fair
MTMB Mario[]
Have you ever heard the saying "curiosity killed the cat?"
Well whoever came up with that must be rolling in their grave, since it could be applied to just about everything that happens here, so strap in.
On the outskirts of the Mushroom Kingdom, a mansion supposedly exists, abandoned for over a century, anyone who went to the mansion never came back. But those were just rumors, right?
Background[]
- Cause of Death: Potentially just about anything
- Eye Colour:
GreenBlue - Hates fake plants
Plagued by curiosity and determined to find out what happened to all the people who went missing, Mario went to the mansion to investigate, an action that would haunt him for the rest of his life.
Upon entering the decrepit, abandoned home and after a bit of searching, Mario came across a small music box, playing by itself despite no one being around to wind it. Entranced by the trinket, Mario picked up the music box, unknowingly releasing the dormant cursed soul trapped inside, and causing the house to attempt to make him dissappear just like all the people who entered before him.
Feats[]
- Can dodge lightning
- Can fight Riba, Misery, Helena, Marchionne & Len
- Comparable to Riba, who could survive a church collapsing on him
- Can survive long falls, several lightning bolts
- Could tear through large amounts of spider silk
- Often uses the enviornment around him to defeat enemies
- Enhanced stealth, agility, willpower and reflexes
Luckily for Mario, his fierce will to live was only complimented by his incredible ability, he's got superhuman strength, agility and reflexes, has a knack for utilizing his enviornment to get out of tricky situations or defeat foes, and can move fast enough to dodge lighting! Pretty impressive seeing as the average speed of a lightning bolt is 440,000 meters per second! That's over one thousand times the speed of sound!
Equipment/abilties[]
- Cleaver
- Chainsaw (Has been discarded)
- Kitchen knife
- Medicinal herbs
- Magic contact lenses
- Save & Load (Restricted)
- Non-Physical Interaction
- limited Immortality (Type 2)
FNAW Mario[]
Imagine, if you will, that Mario wasn't a legendary hero of prophecy. What if he wasn't one of the seven star children and was instead just a normal man trying to live his life? Well you get a plumber obviously, since that's apparently some kind of omniversal constant.
Not much is known about Mario's life before he came to work in Wario's fast food factory. We know he still had a brother named Luigi, he had a girlfriend named Peach, and that he still had a nemesis named Bowser. But beyond that he's effectively a complete mystery.
Going back to Wario, after his factory had run into massive success seemingly overnight, Wario and the gang were ecstatic. It seemed like nothing could ruin what they had created..... until of course, something came along and brought everything they had worked towards crashing down.
Desperate to scrape together enough money to get treatment for his sick and dying daughter, Bruno Gate broke into Wario's fast food factory to steal Wario's secret hamburger recipe, this led to him being cornered when Wario and Waluigi came in to work and confronted the man. And in a blind panic, Bruno, wearing a Wario-Man costume killed the two, later killing Mario, Luigi and Peach when they came into the factory later that day.
After the gang had been dealt with, Bruno had thought that there was nothing left standing in his way, until his victims came back to life as grotesque undead corpses and murdered him right back.
So... it turns out that the cause of the factory's booming business was actually Wario making a deal with ancient forces, selling the gang's souls, and cursing them forever! Which, kind of sucked for the crew, as now they were trapped in their own dead bodies, cursed to wander the Earth in search of their killer, a man they already killed... forever!
Background[]
- Cause of death: Decapitation
- Got to keep his mustache
At first they merely stuck around the factory they were killed at, haunting its grounds and attempting to murder anyone who got too close. Such as Richard McRoy, the new nightguard who started working at the factory when it got reopened 7 years after the murders. Because nobody ever learns anything in these stories. After this the timeline gets a little confusing, mainly because, well, there's two of them. After years of the victims' souls wandering the Earth, killing anyone in their path and spreading the curse to other unfortunate souls, a final confrontation with Edward Coleman in the old Mcroy house would decide the souls' fate, should Edward have failed in putting the spirits to rest, they would continue to wreak havoc until eventually they were confronted by Rosalina, who sent the cursed spirits back in time to a week before Wario's very first cafe was opened.
This turn of events caused the timeline to split in two, with very different events happening in each one, in this second timeline, after the original Wario's cafe was closed due to the paranormal events caused by the spirits Wario opened a new company to raise money for his factory where the second game takes place.
Now, normally timeline splitting is a more permanent thing, however in the world of FNaW, time works much like a river, and the two timelines would eventually merge once more.
Feats[]
- Can kill Richard McRoy, Thomas Taylor, Edward Coleman
- Can fight and defeat Emma/Demon Wario
- Can greatly outspeed meteors
- Can survive meteor strikes and take hits from Emma/Demon Wario
In their hunts for their killer, the spirits have shown off a wide arsenal of paranormal abilities. Mario himself showcased an affinity for technological screwery, being able to enter, travel through and appear from technology like cameras, computers and televisions, corrupt said technology and render it useless, and even cross from technology to the real world. Like the rest of the spirits, Mario can sense light from far away and seemingly teleport long distances, allowing him to easily find and kill his victims.
Mario is also strong enough to tear Richard's head from his body, a feat that would require 12,000 newtons (~1,200 kilograms) of force! He can outspeed meteors traveling at nearly 50 times the speed of sound and even survive being hit by them. Comparing their size to Mario and using the previously mentioned mach 50 speeds, these meteors would be delivering kinetic energy equivalent to over 2 kilotons of TNT!
After this
Abilities[]
- Immortality (Types 1, 2 & 7)
- Immersion/Technology Manipulation
- Double Jumps
- Possession
- Resurrection/Corruption/Curse Manipulation
- Dream Manipulation
- Light Sensing
- Illusion Creation
However as a result of being antagonists in a FNaF themed game, the spirits also have an assortment of strange and often unexplained weaknesses. The spirits are said to be either unwilling or unable to enter a completely dark room, (Though this is inconsistent as ghosts have entered completely dark rooms before and after this instance) and can be driven away by things like eating certain kinds of medicine or sudden bright lights (Though the latter is also inconsistent with the spirits' other showings) though such methods are only temporary and the spirits
Weaknesses[]
- Can be temporarily driven away by various means
- Won't enter a completely dark room
Yet hope remained for the gang, as the soul of Bruno was also unable to rest, and returned to his body to try to find his victims and apologize for his actions. An act that would ultimately free the cursed spirits and allow them to achieve peace at last, breaking the endless cycle of suffering they were trapped in and letting the painful events of the past fade away.
And then Bruno gets pulled into some other dimension by the puppet master of the series' events and Wario and co. are still forced to be involved in all of this but I don't have the time nor the patience to get through all of that here.
Intermission[]
All right! The combatants are set! Let's get this match underway!
It's time,

Advantages and Disadvantages[]
OST Name[]
Curse of the Music Box: Referencing both Marios' relations to music boxes (MTMB Mario really kickstarting the events of his game by obtaining the music box that trapped Alice's soul, and FNAW Mario playing music whenever he's near) and their cursed statuses (MTMB Mario being possessed by Alice and FNAW Mario being cursed by Emma to eternally seek vengeance for his death)
