History[]
Prior to the events of Lux[]
Not much is known about Lux's backstory. All that is known is that at one point, he joined the Pantheon of Discord.
Lux[]
Coming To Life[]
At the Palazzo Movie Theatre, a 1935 animated flim, Mr. Ring-A-Ding Goes to Town was showing. A beam of moonlight bounced off into the projector, hitting Mr. Ring-A-Ding. This didn't seem to do anything at first, but the moonlight allowed "Mr. Ring-A-Ding” to come to life and break the fourth wall. Interestingly, another character, Sunshine Sally, silently reacts to Lux's presence. "Mr. Ring-A-Ding", after being provoked, crawled out of the screen, growing exponentially in size due to the cartoon's perspective of him being shown up-close. He then trapped the people watching "his" cartoon in film reels off-screen.

Appearance[]
Lux, under the guise of Mr. Ring-A-Ding, takes on the appearance of the aforementioned character. In this form, his skin is blue, as well as his nose being like that of a pig's and there being antennae on his head. He wears a deep purple suit with a yellow waistcoat and white shirt, as well as a red bow tie. He wears a straw hat, which is commonly placed on either side of his head, or simply floats just above. His head is mainly bald, save for some at the back of his head.
After becoming 3D via absorbing The Doctor's regenerative abilities, his appearance mainly stayed the same, save for his being a CGI monster. In this form, he is far more realistic and grotesque, having features like wrinkles and discoloured teeth. His suit also changes from purple to a light blue.
Upon his defeat, he reverted back to his 2D form, but now he was see-through and far larger. His pupils changed from black to gold.

- Is a member of the Pantheon of Discord
- Embodies light itself, and is made of light
- Therefore, he should be unable to be harmed by physical attacks
- Can absorb any kind of light, even moonlight
- Crawled out of his screen
- When he sings "his" theme song, music plays. It is unknown if he controls this or not
- Turned The Doctor into a cartoon
- Nearly killed The Doctor by absorbing him
- Absorbed the light of entire stars
- Became one with the universe and became a true god
With these feats, he should overall be at least 4-C/Star Level via Light Absorption, possibly higher.
Faults[]
- Was ultimately defeated by The Doctor
- If his theme song plays, he will be forced to dance, temporarily incapacitating him
- Can be rendered defeated if he absorbs too much light, as this causes him to grow so large that he can no longer maintain can his physical form
- Can likely be harmed by fellow light manipulators
Trivia[]
- Lux is the second Doctor Who character to be portrayed by Alan Cumming, the other being King James I in "The Witchfinders".
- It is implied that Lux could've been any cartoon character but just chose to play Mr. Ring-A-Ding due to his catchphrase.
- Despite literally being made only of light, Mr. Ring-A-Ding is somehow able to cast a shadow, which may just be a part of the animation itself, rather than an actual shadow.
- The Doctor explaining how light could be lethal to Lux by comparing it to humans being mostly made from water but being able to drown was similarly used previously in "The Fires of Pompeii" with the Pyroviles and fire.
- Lux is the second god from the Pantheon of Discord to display fourth-wall awareness. In his case, he created fans of Doctor Who to try to trick the Doctor and Belinda into thinking they were fictional characters. The first was Maestro when they looked at the audience and played the theme tune on their piano.
- Lux has been compared to that of a Cuphead boss on account of his vessel, Mr. Ring-A-Ding.
- Lux’s laugh is similar to that of The Celestial Toymaker and The Maestro, who were all both enemies of The Doctor and members of the Pantheon of Discord, like Lux.
- Lux’s presence made another character in Ring-A-Ding’s cartoon, Sunshine Sally, react to him. This could mean Lux’s presence indirectly grants fourth-wall awareness to those around him.
- One of Lux's quotes is "Don't give me sunshine!". This could have been foreshadowing the fact that his defeat was at the hands of the sun's light.
- Each of Mr. Ring-A-Ding’s unique physical attributes reference Lux’s personality. Whether this was intentional or not is unknown.
- Lux, as Mr. Ring-A-Ding, takes on the appearance of a human. This could foreshadow his longing to be physical.
- Additionally, his nose resembles that of a pig’s, which could foreshadow his gluttony (in the sense of wanting to absorb light).
- Finally, he has insect-like antennae on his head. This could have been a reference to his moth-like nature (drawn towards light).
- When Lux turns 3D, his suit colour switches from purple to blue. There was never an explicit reason as to why this happened.
- Lux refers to his cameras as “ladies”. This could mean he trapped the souls of human women inside of the cameras. However, there is no evidence supporting this theory.
- His last name, Imperator, means commander, which could imply that he was second-in-command to (or was high-ranking under) Sutekh, the leader of the Pantheon of Discord.
- Lux was likely inspired by The Ink Demon from Bendy and the Ink Machine, as they are similar in several ways.
- They were both originally fictional cartoon characters (Bendy and Mr. Ring-A-Ding) but are technically entirely separate entities that take their forms.
- In their cartoon forms, they have similar height (Ring-A-Ding being two feet tall and Bendy being 2.2 feet tall).
- They were both brought to life by two elements (Ink and light) as different beings (The Ink Demon and Lux Imperator).
- They would go on to be defeated by light (The End Reel and sunshine).
- However, this was never explicitly stated, and is at best a hypothesis.
