Liquid Snake vs. Albert Wesker is Episode 18 in Koboldy’s Death Battles. It features Liquid Snake from Konami’s stealth-action Metal Gear Solid franchise, and Albert Wesker from Capcom’s survival horror franchise Resident Evil.
Description[]
Metal Gear vs. Resident Evil! Which of these two genetically modified masterminds will foil the other’s plot, and prove their superior skills and intellect!
Interlude[]
Wiz: A person who can develop a multilayered strategy that accounts for nearly everything, yes, including one’s own death, can be called nothing short of a mastermind.
Boomstick: And in the world of Metal Gear and Resident Evil, these two really take the cake with their schemes and desire to rule the world!
Wiz: Liquid Snake, leader of FOXHOUND and clone of Big Boss.
Boomstick: And Albert Wesker, god complex having bioweapons researcher.
Wiz: And it’s our job to analyze their weapons, armor, and skills, to find out who would win…a Death Battle.
Liquid Snake[]
Wiz: In the late 1900s existed one of the greatest soldiers to ever live: Big Boss. And though he showed allegiance to The Patriots at the time, there was always the chance that he could go rogue. So they needed a contingency plan in case the worst came to pass.
Boomstick: And what was their genius plan? Clone him! Because that never goes wrong.
Wiz: The Les Enfant Terribles Project. A project that was as cruel as it was complicated. The project produced multiple failures, and only three actual successes. Solid Snake, Solidus Snake, and the man we are talking about today: Liquid Snake.
Boomstick: Of course, Big Boss himself wasn’t exactly the biggest fan of the whole “create genetic experiments using fetuses harvested from his DNA” and he peaced out. The Patriots then did what any multi-billion-dollar company that experienced a controversy would do and rebranded without changing anything else about them!
Wiz: Of course, Liquid and Solid were now more important than ever. But Liquid, otherwise known as Eli, made his escape from the UK into Africa. Seemingly abandoned by the now-renamed Cipher, Eli founded a group of child soldiers. Now under the moniker of “White Mamba”.
Boomstick: And it’s there that he had a run-in with Big Boss…kind of. He’s called Venom Snake now. And he looks like Big Boss but isn’t actually Big Boss. Metal Gear Solid, everyone.
Wiz: But of course, Eli had no love for his “father”. And it was the very same hatred that drew the man who would become known as Psycho Mantis to his side. Eventually escaping from Africa during the events of The Phantom Pain and joining the British Special Air Service.
Boomstick: Not everything was looking up for Liquid though. Solid Snake, who had made his own name for himself, took down Big Boss in 1999. One would think Liquid would be happy that his gene dad was dead, but this only pissed him off more, because he didn’t get to do it himself!
Wiz: That and combined with resentment he already towards Solid Snake due to the belief that he was intentionally given the recessive genes of Big Boss, meant that Liquid Snake was enraged. Meeting up with Mantis once again as the two joined the elite United States Special Operative Unit FOXHOUND. Rising up and eventually becoming its squad leader.
Boomstick: And eventually, thanks to a suggestion from one Revolver Ocelot, Liquid Snake launched an armed revolt against the United States! Taking control of Shadow Moses Island, they backed up their threats with nuclear warheads and Metal Gear REX! Their demands were simple: the body of Big Boss.
Wiz: But Liquid had anticipated that Solid Snake would likely be the one to be dispatched to Shadow Moses. He had made sure that Solid’s mentor, Kazuhira Miller, would be murdered. Allowing him to disguise himself as Miller and trick Solid into doing his bidding via codec calls.
Boomstick: And unfortunately, Snake fell for it hook, line, and sinker. Despite several setbacks and the threat of a spy within their organization, Liquid managed to manipulate Snake into activating Metal Gear REX for them. And Liquid, having no more use for Snake any longer, left him for dead.
Wiz: But as we know, that is far from the end of the story. Snake and Liquid met once again in a battle to the death. Snake managed to destroy Metal Gear REX, and the machine exploded, knocking Snake unconscious. One would think that would be the end of Liquid, but he still managed to live through a 2.67 megajoule explosion. He explained to Snake his desire to give soldiers a purpose and create a world in which those who love the thrill of battle could thrive.
Boomstick: And then the both of them fought each other shirtless like REAL MEN!!
Wiz: And despite being thrown off of the remains of Metal Gear REX and a jeep crash, Liquid still survived. And likely would have killed Snake…if it wasn’t for the virus known as FOXDIE taking his life at the very last second.
Boomstick: Huh. Seems like cheap plot convenience to me. But something that was even more embarrassing for Liquid was the fact that HE was the one who had the dominant genes all along! Snake managed to (mostly) beat him through sheer skill and determination!
Wiz: *takes a deep breath* And then Liquid’s body was recovered by Solidus Snake his right arm being transplanted onto Ocelot’s but this arm also allowed Liquid Snake to worm into Ocelot’s psyche fusing together to create a new entity known as Liquid Ocelot but not actually because it mostly hypnosis and it was actually-
Boomstick: Alright, I think that’s enough Metal Gear lore for one day. Either way, Liquid scaling to Big Boss is a bit of a no-brainer. While he maybe wasn’t as outright skilled as the man back in his heyday, stuff like physical prowess is all fair and good. Like Big Boss managing to hold up the massive AI Weapon Cocoon with HIS BARE GODDAMN HANDS!
Wiz: Not to mention the blatant bullet dodging within The Twin Snakes, giving us a pretty accurate place as to where Liquid’s speed should probably be.
Boomstick: Like his brother and dad, Liquid’s also pretty skilled in the art of CQC and is likely just as skilled with a gun as the rest of ‘em.
Wiz: Liquid is also a skilled tactician, managing to manipulate even someone like Solid Snake into doing his bidding. Capable of thinking on the fly no matter what troubles come his way. Truly deserving of the title of “mastermind”.
Albert Wesker[]
Resident Evil 5 - Winds of Madness
Wiz: Within the world of Resident Evil, there is one man you can usually count on to be behind nearly every catastrophic event that occurs.
Boomstick: Albert Wesker: virologist turned S.T.A.R.S captain, turned god-complex having bioterrorist!
Wiz: From a young age, Wesker was effectively bred to become a superhuman. Raised by eugenicists and indoctrinated into their values, Wesker quickly showed promise. Rising quickly in life from graduating college at 17 and became involved with the corrupt pharmaceutical company Umbrella shortly thereafter.
Boomstick: Wesker basically saw each and every one of their bioweapon projects come to fruition, but when the Tyrant Project stalled, Wesker sought out to become a mole for Umbrella in places like the US Army and eventually S.T.A.R.S. A subset of the Raccoon City Police Department specializing in domestic terrorism but was secretly just Umbrella’s private army.
Wiz: But S.T.A.R.S would also prove useful in other ways. Such as combat data against Umbrella’s BOWs. And thus, the Spencer Mansion Incident came to be. Sabotaging Bravo Team and requiring Alpha Team’s later assistance to rescue them.
Boomstick: Of course, while Jill, Chris, and the rest of Alpha Team struggled in the mansion itself, Wesker worked behind the scenes. Killing off any potential survivors and activating the Tyrant located in the mansion to try and kill the remaining S.T.A.R.S members.
Wiz: But in a twist of fate, when Wesker activated the Tyrant, it instead killed him before attacking the other S.T.A.R.S members…at least at first glance. Before activating the Tyrant, Wesker had injected himself with a mutated T-Virus. Giving him regenerative abilities in addition to superhuman qualities. Everything had gone to plan, except for being unable to retrieve the embryos he had promised to a rival pharmaceutical company.
Boomstick: Man, Wesker just betrays everyone, huh? What is that, triple crossing at that point? Double crossing two different groups?
Wiz: Get used to that. Regardless, Wesker still found employment with that rival organization. Here, Wesker found himself in regular contact with the spy Ada Wong. Being behind the scenes in several important events, such as the Raccoon City and the Las Plagas.
Boomstick: But Wesker’s major appearances were the events of Rockfort Island and of course, the Uroboros Project. It was the former where his man-crush/hate boner for one Chris Redfield began to emerge. He attempted to kill him and his sister, tie up a few loose ends, but despite multiple attempts he just couldn’t manage to do it!
Wiz: But Wesker was, once again, presumed dead after an encounter with him, Jill Valentine, and Chris Redfield at the Spencer Estate. The pair now working for the BSAA, the two fought, but Jill and Wesker crashed through a window onto the cliff side. Both, presumably, having died.
Boomstick: But of course, if that were the case, things wouldn’t nearly be as interesting! Wesker lived, and carried Jill to eventually brainwash her into becoming Wesker’s agents…and also dyeing her hair blonde for some reason.
Wiz: Wesker eventually allied himself with the pharmaceutical company Tricell in order to begin work on his latest, and final, project: Uroboros. The plan being to spread the virus into the troposphere, spreading it across the entire world.
Boomstick: But Wesker wasn’t some psychopathic god-wannabe that wanted to kill the entire world…okay, I mean, he was but there was a bit more to it than that! Simply put, Wesker had become well attached to the idea that humans had reached an evolutionary blockage. His solution? Good ‘ol eugenics! Those that would survive Uroboros would become stronger, survival of the fittest and all that bullshit.
Wiz: Chris Redfield and Sheva Alomar stood in his way, however. As Wesker’s frustration with Chris constantly meddling in his affairs reached its apex.
Boomstick: Of course, Wesker completely MANHANDLED Chris in their first encounter! Not only was he capable of matrix dodging out of the way of any gunshots Chris and Sheva fired, including sniper rifle rounds at point blank, but Chris and Sheva didn’t stand a chance against him in hand-to-hand combat!
Wiz: With that in mind, Wesker likely upscales from some of the more monstrous feats in the Resident Evil universe. The massive boulder Chris survives getting thrown at him, or Nemesis barely surviving Jill’s rail gun are examples that Wesker likely scales above due to being much more powerful than both creatures.
Boomstick: Not to mention faster! As mentioned, Wesker is capable of dodging sniper rifle bullets point blank! Something that equates to around Mach 2.5!
Wiz: But Wesker does have a weakness. His reliance on medication meant it was possible for Chris and Sheva to inject him, causing him to overdose and become weaker. Allowing them a fighting chance.
Boomstick: Backed into a corner, Wesker injected himself with his own super-serum. Turning into a hulking meat goliath as the plane they were on crashed into a nearby volcano!
Wiz: And let it be said that not even being dumped into lava slows Wesker down, as it took taking a rocket launcher to the face in addition to finally put him down.
Boomstick: And YES, he actually is dead this time!...
Wiz: Likely non-canon. *ahem* Regardless, while Wesker’s Uroboros transformation does make him stronger and more durable, it also dramatically slows him down. While he is still able to keep up with Sheva and Chris, he is no longer so easily capable of dodging out of their attacks. However, those tendrils do provide one added bonus to Wesker’s arsenal.
Boomstick: The fact that Wesker can infect other people with Urobos! Of course, if you’re immune to T-Virus adjacent viruses like Chris or Jill, that becomes null and void.
Wiz: Wesker is also a certified intellectual prodigy. Both in scholarly knowledge and knowing how to manipulate people to do his bidding. Umbrella, Tricell, S.T.A.R.S were all simply his pawns to maneuver across the chess board of biowarfare.
Boomstick: Packed with his fists, his Samurai Edge, and superhuman speed, Wesker is one nightmare that is hard to outmatch!
DEATH BATTLE![]
(Metal Gear Solid – Alert Theme)
*BOOM*
The sound of the explosion reverberated all throughout the FOXHOUND base. The alarm blaring as the lighting was swathed in red, indicating an intruder had breached through their defenses. A small militia of trained soldiers rushing towards the source of the explosion, only for each and every one to either have their necks snapped or their backs broken via being slammed into walls. The culprit becoming clear as he waded through the crowd, swiftly shrinking their numbers. A man with slick, blonde hair walked past the corpses he had just created. A neutral look on his face, something that was only helped by the pitch-black sunglasses covering his eyes.
His goal was a simple one. There was a man he was looking for, and he would find him. No matter the body count.
The man was being watched, however. As a similarly blonde-haired man smirked as he watched the virologist known as Albert Wesker tear through his men with remarkable ease. Removing his similarly shaded sunglasses as he casually tossed them onto the desk he was sitting at, his gloved hands moving as they pressed a button. The man only known as Liquid Snake leaning into the microphone that was near his face as he began to speak to the man who had invaded his own personal kingdom.
“You are quite bold to come here! I suppose I must congratulate you for making an utter mockery of my soldiers.” The man’s British accent could be heard throughout the facility as Wesker’s head tilted slightly towards the direction of a nearby camera. It was if the pair was watching each other, despite Wesker being unable to view the fox that was currently speaking to him.
“But I’m afraid whatever goals you hope to achieve end here. Farewell!” With those words, the intercom went silent. The sound of machinery slowly turning as several turrets in the corners of the hallway appeared out of the walls. All of them aimed directly at the trench coat wearing intruder. A small smirk coming across his face as he opened his mouth to speak.
“There’s no point in hiding.”
FIGHT!
A hail of gunfire was heard as each wall mounted turret fired in unison, each and every bullet tracking the blonde man in their automated sights.
And yet, not even one landed. Wesker himself becoming a blur as the storm of gunfire merely littered the floor. He had made his way to the next door in an instant, and though it shut in his face, he certainly would not let that stop him. Plunging his hand into the metal door as he effortlessly tore it from frame. Tossing it behind him as the turrets let out another volley of gunfire; the bullets harmlessly bouncing off of the broken door as Wesker made his entrance into the next room. A number of armed guards waiting for him, their rifles pointed directly at the man in front of them.
Naturally, much like the corpses behind Wesker, they too fell before their bullets even so much as grazed Wesker’s body. But even still, Wesker had found his path forward. Pressing the “up” button on an elevator, Wesker casually walked in as the elevator doors opened. The only display of “emotion” being when he revealed his specially made pistol from his trench coat, using it to shoot out the security camera within the elevator itself. A wordless insult to Liquid Snake, who had watched the whole debacle happen.
Liquid himself couldn’t help but let out an amused chuckle as the elevator camera switched to static.
“Ah, such an old proverb. If you want something done right…” Liquid began to muse, before…
*DING*
“…do it yourself.” As the doors opened, Wesker found himself face to face with a pair of sunglasses being tossed in his direction. Pulling a combat knife out of his coat as he cut the glasses in two…only for the sight of Liquid Snake himself charging down the man as he grabbed Wesker him by the throat. A confident smirk coming across Liquid Snake’s face as he held the virologist up by his throat.
“Did you like my sunglasses?” Liquid Snake spoke with a cockiness in his voice. “And here I thought Umbrella had moved out of the PMC business.”
Though his confidence was quickly brought down as Wesker retaliated. Plunging the same combat knife that had split Liquid’s sunglasses into his right arm. A gasp of pain leaving Liquid’s lips as Wesker slammed his palm into Liquid’s chest. Sending the man flying backwards as his back hit the same desk he was sitting at with a thud.
“I am afraid you are working with outdated information if you believe I am still associated with Umbrella.” Wesker’s voice dripped with revulsion as he spoke the name “Umbrella”. A casualness in his walk as he strode towards where Liquid had been knocked back, adjusting his black, leather gloves as he walked. A grunt of pain leaving Liquid’s own lips as he removed the knife from his arm, blood seeping into his brown jacket as he stood back up. His eyes looking upward as Wesker pointed his Samurai Edge onto the forehead of Liquid Snake. Gritting his teeth in anger as he stared back at the sunglasses wearing assassin.
“There’s no point in delaying the inevitable, Eli. I am too aware of Metal Gear…and I know FOXHOUND has been developing a weapon to surpass it.” Wesker’s tone of voice showed a man who was too knowledgeable for his own good. Liquid had heard the stores of Albert Wesker, of course. A man whose loyalties were ever changing, a man who was always three steps ahead of everyone else.
“Metal Gear…?” Liquid couldn’t help but let out a few chuckles as he spoke those words. “If you know so much, then you must know that a cornered fox…”
Liquid raised his left hand, a small detonator that had been hidden away from Wesker. A smirk on Liquid’s face as his thumb began to move.
“Is more dangerous than a jackal!”
*BOOM*
The entire room detonated as the floor gave way beneath both Albert and Liquid. The both of them falling to lower floors of FOXHOUND HQ, specifically into the break room of the HQ. Liquid was an eternally cautious man, who prepared for any and every situation. Hiding explosives to detonate all the valuable information and security systems lest it become compromised was one of the first things he had accounted for.
As the smoke cleared and he casually shoved the rubble off of him, Wesker saw that Liquid himself had vanished.
“And so, the wounded animal runs to hide…” Wesker smirked as he scanned his surroundings. The smoke from the explosion still cloaking the area. Enough for Liquid Snake to make his move, silently appearing behind Wesker as he wrapped his right arm around the man’s neck.
“It’ll take more than that to cause me to scurry away!” Liquid declared as his arm tightened against Wesker’s neck. Crushing his windpipe as he delivered a series of blows with his left fist to Wesker’s ribs. Grunts of pain leaving Wesker’s lips before Liquid threw the trench coat wearing man behind him, slamming him into a vending machine. Glass piercing the man’s body as the vending machine’s light fizzled out.
*CLICK*
Liquid pulled out a pistol from his jacket, pointing it directly at Wesker’s head. A fair bit of distance between them, but Liquid looked Wesker dead in the eyes (or at least, where his eyes would be if not for his sunglasses) as he placed his finger on the trigger.
“A pity to waste such a mind, but it is what it is.”
*BANG*
The bullet fired, and yet, no blood was spilt. As a smirk came across Wesker’s face as he revealed the caught bullet in his gloved hand.
“Back to you.” And with a flick of his thumb, the bullet launched back towards Liquid Snake. The man dodging out of the way as the bullet lodged in the wall, only for Wesker to charge like a rhino directly towards him. Grabbing him by the throat as he used the sheer momentum of his movement to carry him to the opposite end of the room.
*WHAM*
Slamming Liquid’s back against the wall as his spine rattled against the plaster. Liquid gripped onto the arm that was currently choking the life out of him, one eye closed as his throat threatened to collapse underneath Wesker’s grip.
“Such futile endeavors. As expected from a pathetic mortal such as yourself.” Wesker spat, disdain in his voice clear as he pulled Liquid away from the wall briefly, only to slam him back into it. A squawk of pain leaving Liquid’s mouth as the back of his skull slammed into the wall much more violently than before. A wince on his face that turned into a smile as he reached into his jacket once again…pulling the same combat knife that Wesker had stabbed him with just moments before.
Returning the favor as he plunged the blade into the man’s arm before he could even recognize what was going on. Causing him to drop Liquid from his grip as Liquid, unperturbed by Wesker’s choke hold, grabbed the knife from Wesker’s arm before re-plunging it into his chest. Raising his right leg as he added salt to the wound, kicking the hilt of the blade as it found its way even deeper into Wesker’s chest and sending the man flying backwards the same time.
But Liquid knew he would need more firepower than this. Exiting out of the break room as he made a temporary retreat, pulling a radio from his coat as he spoke while he ran.
“Snipers, when I give the signal, open fire!”
~~~
“Tch.” Wesker scoffed as he pulled the blade out of his chest. His wound healing itself nigh instantly as he tossed the knife to the side, it clattering uselessly to the ground as the black ooze dripped from its blade.
“Hide and seek hardly befits a god.” And so, he began his move to find the illusive fox. Shifting through the hallways as he tracked his prey like any good hunter. Following the blood trail that Liquid had left behind. Though Wesker found himself seemingly one step behind Liquid, the red liquid betrayed any hopes of stealth that Liquid could have had. Eventually slamming open a pair of large, heavy doors. Finding himself in a hangar, a plane, and a helicopter clear as day within the large, open room. The hangar doors open as the cool, night air brought a chill to the battlefield. And there Wesker found himself across from Liquid, who simply shook his head.
“So, pray tell, Albert.” Liquid spoke once more. If there was anything he shared with Wesker, it was the fact that both of them loved the sound of their own voice. “If you did so happen to achieve this ‘weapon to surpass Metal Gear’…what would you even do with it?”
A twisted smile came across Wesker’s face as he stepped forward. His boots loudly reverberating across the stone floor of the hangar as his voice seemed to echo throughout.
“Since you’re going to die, I suppose it’s only fair to tell you.” Wesker removed his sunglasses, finally revealing his eyes. Though they were far from resembling a human’s. Not in the sense of a stone-cold killer or someone who spiritually revoked their humanity, but his eyes truly looked near reptilian in nature.
“I will usher in a new age of evolution…one propelled by Uroboros.” The two locked eyes for just a moment before Wesker put his sunglasses back on. The manic disappearing from sight, but still apparent in his voice as he spoke. “And I will be the one to rule over them as a god.”
Once again, Liquid could merely shake his head.
“Ah, just another simpleton with delusions of grandeur. And here I thought you might actually interest me.” If there was a mic, Liquid would have dropped it. But he did have to admit disappointment. Such a simple motivation. He had little time to ruminate on that, however, as Wesker began charging him down. Everything felt as if it was in slow motion. Wesker rushing forward as Liquid rose his right hand, his fingers curling into position of a finger gun as he pointed it at Wesker. Closing his right eye as his mouth opened.
“Bang.”
*BANG*
“Grahh!!” Two sniper shots rang out in unison as the higher caliber bullets pierced through his body. One in his right shoulder, the other through his left lung. Being infected with both the T-Virus and Uroboros meant that Wesker could survive a lot. But even then, it still hurt like a BITCH. And that stumble gave Liquid opportunity to strike, returning the rush down as he grabbed the recoiling Wesker’s right arm. Outstretching it before bringing his elbow down on it hard. Another scream of pain echoing throughout the hangar as bones shattered from Liquid’s strike. The FOXHOUND commander following up as he let go of Wesker’s arm, only to spinning roundhouse kick him directly in the head, sending the virologist careening to the ground.
Before Wesker could recover, he felt Liquid’s boot step on the side of his head. The sound of cracking bone and snapped lenses following suit. Wesker’s golden, cold-blooded eyes revealed once more as his face was smashed into the stone.
“A god? Don’t make me laugh! You’re just a mutt!”
*WHAM*
A well-placed kick to Wesker’s skull caused the man to roll on the stone floor. Albert grunting in pain as his head rattled from the kick, not helped by the fact that Liquid continued to monologue after the fact.
“Just a junkyard dog who thinks sitting atop a mountain of trash makes him worth any-“ Liquid’s sentence could not be finished, as Wesker swept his legs out from under him. Pulling himself off of the ground and delivering his own kick to Liquid’s chest in one swift motion. Send the man’s body careening into a nearby jet plane; Liquid’s body leaving a small dent and certainly scuffing the paint of the aircraft as he slid off it onto the ground. A groan leaving his mouth as he slowly recovered, pulling himself off the ground as Wesker walked towards him. Two more gunshots ringing out through the air as the snipers opened fired as Wesker’s position. But now that the man was aware of their existence, dodging those bullets was of simple ease to him as he moved like a blur. The bullets whizzing right past him as they landed in the stone floor.
The battle resumed as quickly as it had been postponed, the pair of combatants engaging in swift and decisive hand to hand combat. Despite each other’s injuries and fractures, neither gave the other an inch as each blow was matched in turn. Bruises were formed for sure, but no more severe injuries were created. But as the fight raged on, things slowly became more and more apparent as to who would win this if it continued. Not to mention the fact that Wesker’s bullet wounds seemingly healed themselves as the fight carried on.
And the first domino fell. As Wesker found an opening, grabbing onto Liquid’s face with his gloved hand as he slammed the back of Liquid’s cranium into the airplane they were fighting next to. A gasp of pain escaping as blood seeped from his head, stumbling as he shook off the dizziness that accompanied the likely concussion he just received. The tide has turned. Liquid suffered blow after blow, now unable to defend himself. Unable to even raise his arms in defense due to the blistering speed that each strike was delivered. Eventually finding himself completely out of place and slumped over the seat of the helicopter that was parked in the hangar as well.
“Hmph. Not even worth the blood on my gloves.” Albert spat out, flicking blood from Liquid’s battered body off his hands. Liquid was not yet dead, of course. He still moved and stirred, even beaten within an inch of his life. His right-hand tightening into a fist as he raised his bloody head.
“No…I will not die here!” Liquid exclaimed, causing Wesker to turn around in a vague sense of interest. Prepared to put down the dog that would not stay down. But Liquid was no longer interested in a fist fight. Indeed, as he ignited the engine of the helicopter. Taking control of the machine as the air from its lift off filled the hangar, Wesker putting his arms in front of him lest he get blown back. It wasn’t long before the helicopter left the hangar itself, but this was not a game of retreating. No, Liquid intended to stay and fight so long as he drew breath. He leaned forward in the chair as he stared back at Wesker, who stood completely unimpressed by the flying vessel Liquid commanded.
“WESKEEEEEEEEEEEEEEERRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!!” Liquid’s scream was only barely audible behind the whirring of the helicopter blades, but the sound of heavy gunfire followed shortly. The mounted gatling gun of the flying behemoth fired on all cylinders. But even as rapid as the bullets shelled out, gunfire was simple to Wesker. His inhuman speed allowing him to effortlessly weave through and dodge the bullets as he made his way towards the helicopter. It would take him little time, and Liquid knew that.
Slamming his fist on the dashboard of the helicopter, he fell back on his final option. Pressing a button that fired a missile from the underside of the copter, aimed directly at Wesker. The man instinctively catching it in his bare hands…only for it to explode not mere seconds after the fact. Wesker taking a direct hit with a rocket as Liquid breathed a sigh of relief as he laughed to himself.
…and then the sounds started. The sound of flesh ripping apart, of bones cracking, of organs squelching. Liquid could only listen on in horror as he waited for the dust to clear, to see just what had happened before the explosion smog…but before it completely dispersed, a mass of oozing, black tentacles shot forth from the smoke. Wrapping around the helicopter like a snake encircling the mouse it was about to devour. And it soon became clear the reason why such vile appendages had suddenly materialized.
Albert Wesker had become a monster. Gone was the sleek, toned physique and black trench coat. Instead replaced with a hulking monstrosity, his upper body enlarged and surrounded in a writhing, black mass. The source of the tentacles being Wesker’s arm, now mutated into a grotesque display of the virus inside of him. The snipers fired, but their bullets merely were absorbed into the black sludge that now composed Wesker’s body.
Liquid, for once in his life, began to panic. As he used to both of his hands to fire the gatling gun, but much like the sniper rounds, they proved to be little more than a swarm of flies irritating Albert. The monster swung his Uroboros arm downwards, the sheer force of the slam causing the helicopter to explode into a fiery wreckage.
Liquid, somehow, managing to survive this. Weakly crawling out of the wreckage, bloody and missing a leg as pure instinct to survive kicked in. He wasn’t even moving consciously, he just was. But all that came to a stop as he felt his body get wrapped in the oily Uroboros tentacles. He was dragged face to face with the now horrific form of the man he was fighting. Yet the same golden, inhuman eyes remained.
“What…what are you…?” Liquid weakly croaked out, a slight gurgle in his voice from the blood that was dripping down his throat. Wesker merely smirked in response, raising his left arm as the writhing mass of tentacles extended forward. Jamming their way down Liquid Snake’s throat as he began to gag on the disgusting mold-esque mass filled his body. The virus slowly taking over his body as his veins became more and more apparent on his skin, a black coloration forming where blue should be. His eyes going bloodshot as black sludge poured from them before they rolled back into his head.
“I told you.” Wesker spoke, and before long, Liquid’s body stopped twitching. His body lifelessly falling to the ground as Wesker let go of his corpse.
“I am a god.”
KO!
Conclusion[]
(Resident Evil 5 – Winds of Madness)
Boomstick: We…we have to censor that, don’t we?
Wiz: Both Wesker and Liquid were superhuman combatants, but in the end, living in the world of Resident Evil meant Wesker as a mutant had more going for him than Liquid, who was still human.
Boomstick: Both Wesker and Liquid were pretty comparable in stats. Both had similar speeds due to bullet dodging shenanigans, and their strength was pretty close as well. Wesker edged out slightly by comparing him to El Gigante or Nemesis, but that obviously wouldn’t be a deciding factor by itself.
Wiz: And to nip this in the bud right at the start, you may be thinking about Volgin and Big Boss in Metal Gear Solid 3. If we take a few things at face value, that would mean that Liquid would be far stronger than Wesker, even in his mutated form, which he would likely upscale in.
Boomstick: However, while Volgin’s statement about him having ten million volts in his body is likely true, there’s nothing suggesting he used ALL ten million to shock Big Boss with. Keep in mind, he was trying to torture Big Boss, not kill him! So, it’s actually pretty unlikely he’d hit Big Boss with every volt in his body.
Wiz: And in that sense, scaling Liquid to Big Boss holding up The Cocoon provides a much more consistent point of measure, especially when you consider the explosion of Metal Gear REX that Liquid survived. But unfortunately, Liquid was fighting an uphill battle from the very beginning.
Boomstick: Wesker’s healing factor was a pretty big deal here. The dude survived getting impaled in the gut by a Tyrant! Sure, it took him a few moments to regain consciousness, but Liquid didn’t have a quick way to put him down for good. And even then, in Resident Evil 5, he was only briefly stunned by a direct explosion from a rocket launcher! Barring flat out giving Liquid access to a Metal Gear, he simply had little access to kill Wesker in the first place. Without being able to easily overdose Wesker, if he could even figure that out in the first place, Liquid, even with his insane stamina and drive, would pretty quickly tire out against an opponent that could regenerate from most wounds.
Wiz: Whereas Wesker had one major way to put Liquid down. While certain characters in the RE universe can show an immunity to viruses like the T-Virus or Uroboros, Liquid has never really shown an immunity to viruses before. And with their speeds being close to equal, it was only a matter of time before Wesker could infect him. Essentially spelling out his demise.
Boomstick: Liquid was definitely more skilled than Wesker was, at least in combat. Being a genetic copy that got all the good juices from your dad’s gene pool helps a lot, not to mention all of his combat experience in the army and what not.
Wiz: He was also likely smarter than Wesker and less prone to overconfidence. Given enough time and options, Liquid might have been able to neutralize some of Wesker’s advantages. But that’s a pretty big if.
Boomstick: When you’re dealing with a tentacle flailing giant monster that can kill you just by touching you, smarts and plans kind of go out the window.
Wiz: Liquid was a lot of things. A genius strategist, a master on the battlefield, and someone who could pull off sunglasses indoors incredibly well. But against Wesker, a victor was not one of them.
Boomstick: I guess you could say that Liquid was almost completely outclassed on a global scale. The world will no longer be saturated with the dreams of a haven for soldiers.
Wiz: The Winner is Albert Wesker.
Trivia[]
- The connections between the two opponents are they are both sunglasses wearing, blonde-haired, genetically modified supergeniuses that primarily fight hand to hand.
