Light Yagami vs. Hannibal Lecter is a What-If? episode of Death Battle. It features Light Yagami from Death Note and Hannibal Lecter from Thomas Harris' series of suspense novels and the movies based on them.
Description[]
Death Note VS Thomas Harris! It's the ultimate battle of wits as the wielder of the Death Note goes head-to-head against one of fiction's most iconic psychopathic masterminds! Will Light be able to put an end to Lecter's bloodlust, or will Hannibal the Cannibal claim yet another victim?
Interlude[]
Wiz: Some of the greatest villainous minds in fictional history come from lines of crime and murder. These kinds of people are vicious. Cunning. Seemingly nice people...
Hoxton: And batshit crazy, half of the time!
Boomstick: Like Light Yagami, the Death Note detective/mass-murderer!
Magneto: And Hannibal Lecter, the Chesapeake Killer.
Boomstick: He's Wiz, they're Hox, Magneto and Wesker, and I'm Boomstick!
Wesker: And through research on their skills and attributes, we are here to determine who will win a fight to the death.
Light Yagami[]
Wiz: Light Yagami was your average overachiever in high-school. A teenager, a seemingly dark yet attractive edge to him by some - most notably, fangirls - he was set for a good life ahead of him, what with him being the top performer among his classmates. All it would take was one event that would change his life forever...
Boomstick: Some weird spirit-y dude by the name of Ryuk dropped a notebook from the Shinigami Realm, and Light just happened to come across it on his travels. Gee, how convenient of a plot device, eh?
Hoxton: He decided to look into this weird notebook to see its contents, and soon enough he discovered both what it was and what purpose it held - the notebook was a Death Note, and it could be used to kill whoever Light wanted dead with just a simple writing-down of their name.
Wesker: Petty.
Magneto: It did come with a few hard and fast rules, however. The victim's entire name has to spelt correctly and Light needed to have the victim's face in mind. It was also Light's requirement to specify the conditions of the victim's death, no matter what the circumstances. If he doesn't, forty seconds would pass before the victim suffers a heart attack.
Boomstick: Curious about his new-found tool of death, Light tried it by killing a criminal or two... or three. Aaaaand then he got carried away. Before long, he was killing cop and robber alike by the dozens, understandably turning everyone else paranoid all the while.
Wiz: With this, Light re-configured his life goal; with Ryuk the Shinigami at his side, he would use the Death Note's power to slaughter criminals and, for lack of a better word, play God. And for the most part, it would prove to be a great plan... but would only be stopped by--
Boomstick: Mr. L!
Wiz: ...It's just "L", Boomstick.
Boomstick: Oh.
Hoxton: Anyhow, this little introduction turned Light mad, crossing him into a straight-up villain that slaughtered criminals left, right and centre without regard for morality. Through this, he gained a newer new plan: To turn himself in under the guise of Kira, who the public dubbed this mysterious killer, before destroying the Death Note so people would think that Light was insane. Which probably would have worked... if the wanker didn't forget about it.
Magneto: And as such, these two petty humans were at each other's throats, constantly trying to out-perform one another.
Wiz: Now, of course, Light uses the Death Note, and we've just covered how it functions, but that's not all of the... admittedly limited things Light can do. He shadows as a detective, so he makes use of a basic handgun and a knife. The knife, however, is commonly used as more of an interrogation tool as opposed to actually being used to stab someone.
Boomstick: Y'know, like a fucking knife would!
Wesker: He doesn't wish to fight most of the time - cowardly - but when the going gets tough, he can at least put his frail-looking frame to good use. He also has a lot of intellect and is capable of fooling the majority of the people he meets with his actions alone.
Hoxton: Someone excelled in drama class, huh? And if he needs prompting, he always has the help of the Shirigami Ryuk, who usually is someone who gives him cryptic hints and is someone only someone like Light can see. Ryuk doesn't really get involved with actual fighting for, er, obvious reasons.
Wiz: With the Death Note and his detective skills, Light is the perfect example of never judging a book by its cover. He has the physicality to be able to punch out L, as well as used the Death Note to extensive use in the killings of what we can only assume is hundreds of thousands of people, mostly criminals. He is also capable of out-gambitting L and, to a greater extent, the entire police force, throwing the entire world into chaos with the Death Note in his hand. All within the space of four years.
Boomstick: Not bad for your average high-school student.
Magneto: But don't think he's absolute. Yagami is mad with power, obsessed even, to the point of having an extreme god complex. He is also limited to the Death Note's restrictions, and if he messes up a name more than three times, it may not work a fourth time. He also refused the Shinigami Eyes - a tool that would give Light even more power - as he did not wish to shorten his lifespan in exchange.
Boomstick: Laaaaaaame!
Wiz: But with all of this in mind, Light Yagami actually won against L in the end. He was able to kill L, as well as L's father, before abandoning his family... and then he died. Despite throwing the world into chaos with the Death Note's power and slaughtering several thousand criminals, he never really did become that god he always wanted to be.
Hoxton: Geez. Guess that L guy got the last laugh after all...
Light Yagami: I'll take a potato chip... and eat it!
Hannibal Lecter[]
Wiz: The story of Hannibal Lecter begins in 1933, where he was born to a wealthy aristocratic family in Lithuania.
Boomstick: The first eight years of his life were relatively normal. Theeeeeen a man by the name of Adolf Hitler happened! Lecter and his family had to leave their home in order to escape from the Blitzkrieg, and that's just the beginning of his long descent into madness! His parents were then killed by a German bomber three years later and his home invaded by Lithuanian soldiers-turned-looters, who were quick to kill Mischa, Hannibal's sister - and frickin' ATE her! Like, that's some hardcore shit!
Magneto: It's dreadful what humans can do...
Wesker: Mercifully for the young Lecter, he was able to escape this ordeal. However, his sister's death would haunt him for the rest of his life, causing him to believe in there not being a God (which, I must add, should be me, Albert Wesker) and there being no justice in the world. I don't blame him, personally.
Wiz: Eventually, he was found by the Soviets after the war had ended and they returned him to his old home, now converted into an orphanage.
Boomstick: Being full of kids who were affected by World War II, it's kinda no surprise that most of them became bullies, and Lecter was part of that crowd... but he wasn't your average bully.
Hoxton: See, Lecter bullied those who bullied, hurt or insulted others, and in some cases, severely wounded them. Pretty, er, particular. Oh, and keep this in mind, aight? It's important for later.
Boomstick: He then moved to the USA to become a successful and well-renowned psychiatrist...as well as killing a buncha people in Chesapeake, aptly naming him the Chesapeake Killer! He then tried to kill a detective by the name of Will Graham. It... almost worked, all things considered. Then he got caught, landing him in custody.
Magneto: In court, Hannibal Lecter was deemed insane by the jury - the only way that Lecter could have managed to avoid the death penalty, instead landing him in Baltimore State Hospital for the Criminally Insane. There, while seemingly well behaved, he eventually attacked a nurse after complaining of illness. Oddly, despite eating her tongue... okay... his heart rate never increased over a certain high heartbeats-per-minute count. 85, I believe? It did net him being strapped down and muzzled when being escorted from place to place, however.
Wiz: Despite Lecter's obvious cannibalism tendencies, there is no doubt that Hannibal is a smart man. Not only would that explain his vast knowledge on psychiatric practices and medical documents, but also how the authorities keep referring to Lecter himself when asking about a certain killer or maniac currently on the loose. He even goes as far as analysing people as they move, speak and act, even to the most precise and outlandish details, and can draw his own conclusions in mere minutes using nothing but what information he gets.
Hoxton: And if he turns it on you? God have mercy.
Wesker: He is also incredibly resourceful. One time, he was able to hand-craft a handcuff key using nothing more than two pens left by visitors. Unique. I should look into the method.
Boomstick: But that's hardly the extent of Han's prowess! On top of his training in swordplay and his above-average physicality - seriously, dude's stronger than you think he is - he makes use of a discipline known only as the Memory Palace.
Wiz: A form of mnemonic discipline taught to him early in his life by his tutor Jakov, Lecter's Memory Palace is self-created, and serves multiple purposes. Not only does it allow him to read and memorise entire transcripts of his interviews and the like, it can also be used as a means of finding comfort in a bad situation, such as when he was being tortured with a cattle prod, he rested his face against a statue and became soothed by its coolness. However, it can be harmful if used incorrectly, with one instance having him haunted by bad memories that he and/or his subconscious had stored up.
Hoxton: Ouch.
Wiz: Interestingly, Lecter has been said to be able to run both hemispheres of his brain independently, which is the explanation for having multiple trains of thought at once without interrupting one another. The human brain usually requires both hemispheres to be able to perform most actions, which makes Lecter's control over his own brain all the more impressive.
Magneto: So... Lecter is definitely a powerful and manipulative speaker, able to shake even a nerves-of-steel human such as Will Graham, and having him practically beat in smarts. He is a killer. But he is a rather... unique killer at that.
Hoxton: Yeah, remember what I said earlier about Lecter's bullying tactics? That kinda crossed over into his killing policies.
Wiz: Lecter runs by a very specific MO that entails why he would want to kill anyone, and outside of necessity, is split into three categories - retribution, discourtesy, and poetic justice.
Boomstick: See, Lecter either kills someone who's been rude to him or someone else - even going as far as saying that discourtesy is "unspeakably ugly" to him - or wants to get revenge. As for the whole poet thing... that thing's Lecter's signature style. Although it's really just placing bodies in positions.
Wiz: Lecter's signature Poetic Justice style allows him to place the bodies of his victims in certain positions mirroring those within medical documents and the like. Two of the most prominent are Wound Man and Blood Eagle.
Boomstick: As cool as a blood eagle sounds, that shit's all boring to me, Wiz. But what isn't boring is Lecter's array of accomplishments!
Wesker: He has a total of 28 confirmed kills to his name - his first starting at age 13 when Paul Hormund insulted his aunt. He even passed the subsequent lie detector test despite having committed the murder, and even came close to killing Will Graham, whom of which he can go head-to-head with in battles of wits.
Magneto: He's also been trained in the art of swordplay when he was a little boy, has managed to convince IJ Miggs to swallow his own tongue, and even trained himself in self-hypnosis should he have needed to be administered hypnotic drugs to siphon information from him. Naturally, they gained nothing.
Wiz: However, Lecter is not unstoppable by any means. Despite being capable of surviving two arrow punctures as well as at least one gunshot in Red Dragon, Lecter doesn't really spend much of his time in combat. Not physically, at least. Perhaps the reason for this is because he doesn't really kill anyone unless it qualifies within his MO. His sister's death also haunts him, and for most of his young life rendered him mute.
Hoxton: You also have to remember... he's insane. At least, that's what the court ruled him as. And Lecter himself has even declared himself "evil". Like, legit evil. At least he has the balls to admit it.
Wiz: But still, Lecter is a powerful speaker and a scary killer to the eyes of the masses that hear about him, and sometimes even see him. He is ruthless and clever, being capable of turning any situation on its head and in his favour. And even more scary is that, while Clarice Starling was consulting Lecter to catch "Buffalo Bill" Jane Gumb, he escaped incarceration, and has been on the run ever since, leaving an ambiguous future to the Chesapeake Killer's legacy.
Boomstick: Who knows where he could be right now?
Hannibal Lecter: A census taker once tried to test me. I ate his liver with some fava beans and a nice chianti.
DEATH BATTLE![]

Light Yagami's room
In a dimly-lit room, a teenager was sat as his desk as a television was just spewing out whatever the channel had to offer. This teenager was doing his usual routine - doing his homework, eating potato chips, killing criminals with the Death Note...
That last one sounded out of place, didn't it? Well, for Light Yagami, that was just another part of the ordinary routine. He would have continued, but suddenly the television had a news report.
"This just in." the news reporter spoke out, with Light looking over and feigning interest. "A pair of men have been found dead in the forest on the edge of the town. While reports are still uncertain about the confirmed source of death, many believe that these deaths are in connection to the mysterious Chesapeake Killer. More on this story will be covered as the events unfold." Light's feigned interest turned into genuine interest as Ryuk, the Shinigami, walked up behind him, eating an apple.
"Is there something on your mind?" he asked. Light turned to him with a grin.
"This "Chesapeake Killer" has Chesa-peaked my interest..." Light replied. "Causing chaos, disruption and death? That's my job. Whoever this killer is won't throw the world into anarchy before Kira does."
Everyone reading right now didn't read that last bit because they groaned at that pun, I'm sure. And no, Cinder wasn't the one who did it this time, so, yeah. Either way, Light quickly began to scribble away at a piece of paper, formulating a plan as Ryuk watched from behind. Light would put an end to this "Chesapeake Killer" no matter what it took him.
The next day
"Several criminals have been reported to be dead under mysterious circumstances." Another reporter on another TV news report was speaking at 5:00PM. "It is believed that these deaths are in connection to the mysterious killer whom the public have dubbed as "Kira". We'll bring more on this story as it unfolds."
In a random apartment on the same evening
Meanwhile, in a run-down apartment building somewhere else in the city, two men were facing off with one another. Seemingly opposites. The first was a young man with blonde hair, a detective by the name of Will Graham, and his gun was being pointed outwards. Opposite him was a man who seemed pretty old by human nature, with his hair slicked back and a faint smile on his face. This man was the Chesapeake Killer. This man was the Cannibal they were looking for.
This man was Hannibal Lecter.
"What is it you are afraid of right now, Will?" Lecter questioned. "Are you hesitant to draw blood? Or is it the news report you heard of earlier? Are you concerned that anyone could drop dead in the blink of an eye?" He grinned as he stepped closer, with Graham taking a step back, his gun lowered. As much as he hated to admit it, Lecter was right. The police were looking high and low for him since his escape from prison, and he had been a useful asset in helping find other serial killers and maniacs like Lecter. As dangerous as he was, they didn't want to bring back a dead body. After all, they did have the force outside of the building awaiting Lecter and Graham. It'd be wasteful to kill Hannibal outright in their eyes.
"You're distracted, Will." Lecter concluded, and immediately lunged at him, with the detective dodging. However, as Lecter turned around for a second attempt, the door to the room burst open, with Light Yagami revealing himself. Will and Hannibal turned to him as Light pointed his gun at Lecter, shooting him in the shoulder. Lecter tumbled out of the window and onto the balcony below, and Light attempted to pursue. However, Will Graham stood in front of him, pointing his gun at Light. Light, similarly, pointed his gun at Will, leaving the two detectives at a stand-off.
"What do you want?" Will asked Light after a brief silence. "Who even are you?"
"I am... Kira." Light finally responded with a grin. "And I am here for that man." Will suddenly seemed shaken.
"Y-you're... you're the killer from the report earlier today..."
"Well, I must say you have been busy." Light smiled. "But you can relax. It's not you I'm after. It is that man--" However, when he looked out onto the balcony, Lecter was gone. The Death Note detective's face was completely devoid of his smile as he watched a pair of police officers tie Lecter up and put them in the back of the cruiser, before driving off. Quick to act upon this, Light grabbed Will Graham and drew his knife, pointing it at his counterpart's throat. Graham grimaced.
Another nut-job, in his eyes. As if Hannibal wasn't a handful as it was...
"Where is he being taken?" Light demanded.
"Baltimore." Will responded. "You know where that is?" Light withdrew the knife and smiled, making a mental note of it. "And you had better not shed any more of his blood if you want to talk to him, understood?"
"After I went through the trouble of putting him in custody for you? Consider it done, good detective." Light responded. But then he began to think to himself. "Not that shedding his blood will be necessary, anyway..."
Baltimore State Hospital for the Criminally Insane
A prison hallway set the scene within Baltimore's high-security cells, with the typical barred wall separating the hall from each individual cell. Walking down the hall, Light Yagami entered, followed in by Ryuk. They were trying to identify the cell, with Will Graham walking them down as the guide. Light slightly regretted that he didn't get the other man's name or had a good look at his face. Not that he worried that much. Now, he was up close and personal. He could gain this opportunity. And given that he had the Death Note under his arm as well as packing his gun and his knife, he felt he had everything he needed.
"This seems like the cell in question." Will spoke as they approached a cell with a pair of staff inside. They were working off Lecter's straitjacket and muzzle, attempting to remove them from the trolley he was attached to so Kira could talk to him. Light stared at Lecter, and the cannibal stared back. Ryuk peered over his shoulder as Lecter's restraints were finally removed and the staff members left the cell, leaving Light on one end and Lecter on the other, the latter being able to move properly at last.
"Would you not consider this cheating or unfair?" Ryuk questioned. Light turned to him.
"Not at all. I can see you, but he can't. He'll think I'm alone. I'll be sending this man to hell tonight." Light explained to him quietly. What he had thought of was that none of the staff members or Will Graham would catch on to this.
What he didn't account for was Lecter to spot it and point it out.
"So, you must be another insane man." Lecter spoke up. "Talking to the voices in your head that you think are there. But there's nothing there, you see. Where you are looking. No-one can see what you see, young man." Light seemed briefly surprised, before snapping out of it and smiling.
"Oh, forgive me." Light spoke. "I must have drifted off into one of my trains of thought. Anyway, you must be this so-called "Chesapeake Killer", correct?"
"Likewise, you must be this "Kira" I have heard of." Lecter responded, not moving his body much, but carefully analysing the teen in front of him. Every little detail, every mannerism, he would pick up on and remember.
"That would be correct." Light smiled. "And if you don't mind, I'd like to question you." Lecter's expression still didn't change.
"Very well." Lecter finally answered after another brief silence. "Proceed with your questions."
FIGHT!
Light thought to himself as he began to think of his first question. "Now... how am I to approach this...? I can't be too direct... I should probably distract him before going in for the details I want."
"Mind the gap." Ryuk advised. Light had to silently take this into consideration as he prepared to begin his questioning. He had Lecter's face right in front of him. All he needed was his name, and victory would be his. But first, he felt he needed to distract the Chesapeake Killer.
"So... how are you enjoying your time here in Baltimore?" Light asked Lecter. He had to start somewhere, after all. Lecter retained his typical deadpan stare.
"They do seem very... restrictive." Lecter answered. "I mean, look at the cell. Can you think of anyone who would want to live in these conditions, boy?" Light took a mental note of the conditions of the cell. It definitely seemed bare, although most of Lecter's medical books took up most of the space on the desk.
"Not particularly." Light remarked. "Anyway, I think I'm going to find out how smart you are. I've taken down lots of criminals in my time, you see - much like the good detective over there." At this, he motioned to Will Graham, then back to the Chesapeake Killer. "Find out if you are smarter than the other criminals I've taken down."
"Then, by implication, you believe you are smarter than I am, since it was you who caught me." Lecter simply responded. Light had to pause for a second. Now that was definitely a response he hadn't anticipated. Light had to stop and think about this for a minute. He needed to come up with a good response to keep Lecter occupied.
"I could claim that, couldn't I?" Light retorted. "But since I don't know how smart you are compared to me, let's just say for sake of example that I'm not smarter than you--"
"Then how did you catch me?" Lecter cut him off. Light seemed visibly disturbed. Lecter was definitely... persistent. So much so that Light didn't think of any possible answers he could give. He would just have to improvise and hope the answer satisfied him.
"You had... disadvantages." Light finally stammered out. All the cannibal did at this was curl his lips into a faint smile. He could tell that Kira was on the back foot.
"What disadvantages?" he asked him. By now, Light was struggling to come up with answers. He had anticipated none of this. Hopefully, after this bought of questioning, he could move on to the killing blow: finding out Lecter's name.
"...You're insane." he finally responded. Lecter's smile faded - a sign he was clearly not amused. Light took his moment to catch his breath. Will Graham was looking at some of the security guards with uncertainty. It didn't take long before Light had regained his composure. He needed to focus. He needed Lecter's name, and he would do so right now.
"Don't bite off more than you can chew." Ryuk told Light. Light looked back at Ryuk over his shoulder before looking back at Lecter.
"He's trying to help me... but what could he mean?" Light thought. "Perhaps I should just play this off casually. That way, this man will think it's just friendly and will confide his name, no problem." He then smiled at Lecter. "Forgive me, but I don't think I caught your name. If you could please...?"
"Did you not give me yours?" Lecter asked.
"Now, don't play dumb." Light responded. "You already know who I am. You even said it yourself. I am Kira. Now, again, may I have your name?"
"What if I do not wish to tell you? What if my name is not important? A trivial matter?" Lecter asked. Light grimaced slightly, with Lecter retaining a smile. Lecter was doing everything Light didn't want him to do. Light growled as he drew his knife, concealed from the view of Will Graham and the others - he knew that if Will or any of the other officers had seen his knife, he would be dismissed. His opportunity to wipe the Chesapeake Killer out would be gone. He then approached the bars of Lecter's cell and pointed the knife at the other's throat, still kept concealed.
"Name. Now." Light demanded.
"Give me a minute to think about it, boy. Do not rush a forgetful man of my age." Lecter asked of Kira calmly, before closing his eyes. Almost as if he was drifting off...
Lecter's Memory Palace
Hannibal found himself inside a white room. Like, completely white. White floor, walls, ceiling, everything. It was all titanium hwhite white. It was quite a sizeable room, at that. Statues and paintings lined the walls, with various white furniture scattered around the room. The Chesapeake Killer stepped around the room slowly before casting his eyes upon a completely white sofa, before sitting down on it. This sitting position then turned into a lying down position as he looked across the room, towards the statues lining the wall opposite him. Lecter smiled. He felt at ease... happy, even...
Back at Lecter's cell
Lecter re-opened his eyes, finding Light still holding the knife to the cannibal's throat with clenched teeth. By now, however, Will was looking at the two strangely. He felt something was off.
"Is that...?" Will mumbled. At this point, Light realised he was going to get caught if he lingered in this position any longer, and had to think fast.
His name, of course.
"So... do you remember your name now?" Light asked Lecter, slowly withdrawing the knife. Lecter looked at the teenager outside of the bars. So close... yet so far away...
"...Do you not know yourself?" Lecter said with a smile again. Light stood there in complete disbelief. He seriously contemplated stabbing Lecter in the throat there and then, but given the tricky nature Lecter had shown, Light figured he had something planned in case he tried that. Instead, he withdrew his knife completely, taking a step back from the cell and removing all possibility of Will spotting his knife.
"Alright." Light finally spoke after a brief silence. "If you don't remember who you are, then perhaps someone here will." At this, he turned to Will Graham. "You don't happen to remember his name, do you?"
"Yeah." Will responded. "This is Dr. L--"
"Acula." Lecter cut him off, causing both of them to turn their attention to him. "My name is Drake Acula. Forgive young Will there, but he doesn't know me as well as I do. That, I believe, is who I am. That is what you wanted to know, if I recall you saying so." Light smiled as he took out the Death Note from under his arm and flicked through the pages, before whipping out a pen and writing the name down. All the while, Lecter observed the book carefully. He observed that Light seemed pretty fixated on the book.
Almost as if it had significance...
"Drake... Acula..." Light wrote down, before withdrawing the pen and closing the Death Note. "Now tell me, Drake. Are you experienced with death?"
"Would I be here discussing matters with you if I wasn't?" Lecter responded. He knew he had just blatantly lied about his name, but Kira didn't seem to know that just yet. He'd find out soon, though.
"Well, I wrote your name twenty seconds ago, if you recall." the Death Note detective told him. "In another twenty, perhaps you can be a little... closer with your experience." Light now had a massive grin on his face in contrast to Lecter's neutral expression. Twenty seconds became ten... then five... then one... then the forty second timer was up...
...and nothing happened.
Light's smile completely vanished as he came to the realisation he had been tricked. Meanwhile, Hannibal Lecter's expression remained unchanged. Almost unimpressed, even.
"An alias?!" Light thought.
"Well, Kira?" Hannibal told him. "It has been forty seconds, as you said. Nothing has changed. Is nothingness your idea of death? I think it is most ideal." Will Graham and the other officers started to look at each other confused as Light approached Lecter's cell bars again.
"Don't screw around with me, old timer." Light growled. "I know that isn't your real name."
"Is my name important to you?" Lecter asked. Kira, however, felt no want to answer the question or to confirm Lecter's ideas. He needed to get the killer blow in before Lecter did.
"Will you give me your name? Your actual name?" Light asked.
"If you let me inspect that little book of yours, I might consider it." Hannibal told him, his smile creeping back onto his face slowly. This response visibly shook the teen. He knew it would probably be a way of getting Lecter's name... but he knew that he couldn't allow the Death Note to fall into Hannibal's hands. He could imagine that he would figure out who he was. What the Death Note's purpose was. He could just imagine what chaos he could cause if he had such power... And after all, he felt it was his job, not Lecter's!
"W-what?! I refuse!" Light rejected. Lecter smiled. He knew he had Light cornered now.
"Do you dream much, Kira?" he asked. Sweat was beginning to drop down Light's forehead, before he completely ran out of patience.
"Whatever. I don't have time for your games any more, alright!? I'm out of here. Goodbye!" Light snapped. And with these words, Light stormed out, with Will and the others watching as he left, Ryuk following close behind the Death Note detective.
"You haven't threatened to take away my books yet!" Lecter called to Light as he left the hall, almost as if he was mocking Light for not sticking around. A brief silence filled the air before he looked at Will. "I shouldn't judge him too harshly. If it's possible, I request a change of venue. A new meeting point. He probably wants to talk me a little... closer. I know I do."
Baltimore State Hospital main hall
"What are you considering now?" Ryuk asked a very agitated Light Yagami. Hannibal Lecter had run him ragged, as much as he hated to admit it. And Light didn't seem to understand how he was unable to get past him. He had everything planned out. It was almost as if Lecter was in sync with Light's thoughts.
"I don't get it... I had all the plans I needed to take his name... but he didn't do anything for me! I have to reconsider my approach..." Light explained to Ryuk as he tried to regain his composure. It was then that Will Graham stepped into the hall to find Light.
"Kira." Will addressed him, causing Light to turn to him. "Dr. Lecter wants to see you again."
Now, any sane man would say "Dr. Lecter!? Screw that, I'm getting out of here!" But, as I'm sure we know, Light is not a sane man. A little more than touched in the head. Morbid curiosity took hold of him as he huffed a breath, before beginning the walk, following Will Graham to Lecter's next meeting point with a creepy smile.
"So... his name is "Lecter"..." Light thought to himself. He'd have to keep that in mind. Will had just given him some vital ammunition for Round 2.
A random security hall
Before long, Light was led into a hall, a few security officers in the room. In the centre of the room stood Hannibal Lecter, handcuffed to his trolley, which had been parked against a solid stone block. Hannibal smiled at Light's return.
"Kira." he greeted. "So nice of you to return to me. Shall we continue where we left off?"
"Gladly." Light smiled back, stepping up to the Chesapeake Killer. "I know you've been bullshitting me for the past half-hour. But I'm starting to get leads on you at last. You are not Drake Acula. You are Dr. Lecter, are you not?"
"About time you started to do your homework, boy. And they called you a detective?" Lecter responded, the smile disappearing slowly from his face. Light contemplated writing this down in the Death Note, but he figured that such a thing wouldn't work. "Dr. Lecter" was too vague, after all. As long as he had the full name of the man in front of him, he would be on the road to success.
"I am indeed." Light stared into Lecter's eyes, with the latter doing the same to his counterpart. "But I know that's just an alias, too. At least, the first part is."
"Such is the art of being a licensed psychiatrist, Kira." Lecter responded.
"So Lecter is your last name?"
"Correct."
"Then what would be your first name?" Lecter didn't respond to Light's question right away, but eventually he spoke up again, another smile forming.
"Who can say?" Hannibal asked.
"You can." Light growled. He was getting increasingly impatient. What would it take to force him to cough the information up?
"I preserve the right to remain silent." Lecter simply responded. Light's brow furrowed, before scanning the room. So many officers were looking at him...
...officers. He knew what he could do to force him to talk. He spotted one of the guards, a young female, and stormed over to her, taking a hold of her and standing behind her, before tucking the Death Note under his shirt and using one hand to keep her restrained, the other holding onto his knife, which he kept pressed at her throat. All of the other guards immediately drew their guns on the Death Note detective.
"He's armed! He's got a knife!" one of them said. Light looked across all of the other of the guard's colleagues, before looking over at Lecter. This time, he saw a new emotion he hadn't seen in Lecter before.
Vague anger.
"Tell me your full name, Lecter!" Light demanded. "Or else this lady gets it!" Some of the guards looked over at Lecter, awaiting his reaction. Lecter's brow was furrowed. This boy just pranced in, levelled threats at him and was being rude and threatening others' lives? Lecter was an evil man, and he knew just that. He even admitted so.
But even he knew where to draw the line.
"Discourtesy like that will get you nowhere, Kira." Lecter spoke. And this was not in a smug, confident tone. This one was of pure contempt and seriousness as he glared at Light Yagami. Light glared back for a few seconds. Lecter didn't seem willing to co-operate.
"So be it." Light said, slitting the woman's throat. As her blood spilled, he immediately drew his gun as the other guards opened fire. Light ducked behind an overturned table for cover as he shot out the remaining three guards in the room. Lecter watched Light do this all the while. While he didn't show it, his anger was building. Light had just crossed a major line. He felt a desire. A desire to make this reckless teen pay.
For anyone who knew Lecter's MO, this was never a good idea or a good sign. Discourtesy, Retribution, Poetic Justice.
And Light had just crossed the line of Discourtesy.
"Do you care about any of the lives you have just wasted?" Lecter asked him, a slight tone of anger in his voice. Light casually grinned as he reloaded his gun.
"I am Kira, Dr. Lecter." Light responded off-handedly. "I care only of Yours Truly when it comes to my goals."
"Then perhaps you should consider a career in politics, boy." the Chesapeake Killer responded coldly.
Ouch. Burn Heal required.
"Is this something you can stomach?" Ryuk asked Light. Another hint. Light had to stop and think. All this seemed to do was just make him look like a murderer. He needed a way to cover this up. Make it look like Lecter attacked them instead... Light quickly decided to run up to the handcuffed cannibal and punched him in the stomach, causing Hannibal to hunch over and cough out a small amount of blood.
"I think you should realise what's at stake, you bitter old man." Light growled, pointing his gun at Lecter's head. "You've seen what happened to the guards there. You will join them... unless, of course--"
"...I give you my name." Hannibal finished his sentence on his behalf. "...Don't you think you have caused enough trouble?"
"I'm not the one at gunpoint, Dr. Lecter." Light grinned. He felt confident now. There was nowhere for Lecter to run. He felt that he had him trapped. Lecter's brow was furrowed in what seemed to be pained frustration.
"...Fine. You have beaten me. My name is... Hannibal Lecter." Light grinned as he pulled out the Death Note, but Lecter spotted it. "Oh, but do be aware - it is spelled with an "O". Not a lot of people know that, but it's the truth." Light didn't hesitate with this information. He had his name!
"Hannibal... Lector..." he wrote down, before snapping the Death Note shut. "You know, Hannibal, people like you make me sick."
"Youths like you make me sick also." Lecter retaliated. Light merely grinned at this. He was helpless, it seemed, struggling. And he genuinely was. However, what Light couldn't see was that Hannibal was adjusting his arms so that his hands could reach into his back pocket to reach a strange-looking contraption, what looked like the remains of a pen.
Lecter's self-made handcuff key.
"You can keep squirming, Dr. Lecter. But it's too late." Light continued to lecture. "Your reign of terror ends here. You will no longer patrol the streets. Killing people as you please. Throwing this world into chaos. You will not steal Kira's spotlight and interfere with his plans!" His speech sounded more and more overly dramatic and over-the-top with every word he said, eventually laughing loudly and maniacally. He had passed thirty seconds of the forty second death timer, completely unaware that Lecter had now managed to work his arms back from behind his trolley and in front of himself, and was undoing his handcuffs. Removing his restraints.
And, more importantly, ready to kill.
5... 4... 3... 2... 1... 0...
...and nothing happened. Lecter didn't grab his heart and fall over, as Light had anticipated.
"W-what!?" Light stammered. He was now completely fearful of the Chesapeake Killer. Not least because he threw him through a loop again, but also because he was no longer stood on the trolley. He was stood in front of Kira. No restraints. No handcuffs.
Nothing stood between the two now.
"Your little charade has gone on long enough, boy." Hannibal Lecter told him. "You have been extremely rude over this past hour. Perhaps it's time I showed you why I'm as important as they want you to believe." And without warning, Lecter made a dashing lunge at Light, grabbing his arm and punching his face. Light grimaced, before trying to grab his gun to shoot Lecter again. However, the Chesapeake Killer grabbed Light's wrist, snapping it and grabbing the gun before tossing it to one side. Despite Light's resilience, he found it hard to break out of Lecter's grasp, something that only occurred when Lecter threw Light over his shoulder, sending him across the room and knocking him into a wall. The Death Note tumbled out of his shirt during Light's fall, falling onto the floor between the two.
"I... I can't lose to you!" Light stammered as Lecter made his way towards him. "Y-you cannot beat Kira! I will rule this world a-as a God!"
"Don't be daft." Lecter responded off-handedly. "I have seen many horrors in this world. It is why I am the way I am today, boy. There is no justice. There is no "God". And even if I was under such an illusion..." he paused as he finally got within reaching distance of the downed Light Yagami. "...I would not consider that God to be you." Light looked up at Lecter fearfully, before spotting the Death Note nearby.
"It might not be too late...!" he thought to himself as he tried to reach out for it. However, Lecter had seen his eyes, and looked at the Death Note on the floor, before kicking it away, out of Light's reach. He then grabbed Light's neck as he hoisted him up onto his feet. He attempted another punch, but Light suddenly drew his knife with his unhurt hand, stabbing Lecter in the shoulder. The cannibal reeled back in pain as Light caught his breath, before running towards Lecter with intent to punch him. Lecter, however, caught the punch with one hand, pulling the knife out of his shoulder with the other.
"Die!" Light drastically demanded, attempting to punch Hannibal again. However, Lecter did something unexpected - he lunged with his face at Light's shoulder, bare from the damage sustained, and bit into it. Light let out a yell as blood squirted out of his shoulder, Lecter taking a chunk out of Light's shoulder.
"He-he's smart... and a cannibal...?" Light pondered in thought. "No wonder Ryuk's hints were about stomachs and minds..." Lecter growled, the chunk of Light's skin still in his teeth, before spitting it out, leaving Lecter's teeth red and a red puddle on the floor. He ran his tongue over his teeth, the taste of blood filling his mouth. He looked angry, but inwardly he enjoyed this taste. But he'd have to put it aside for now. Right now, he needed to end this ordeal. Light suddenly pushed Lecter away, knocking the old man to the floor.
Right next to Light's pistol.
Lecter saw the pistol, and immediately took it, seeing it as a sign. Looking up, he saw Light making a run across the room. He was trying to reach the Death Note.
Now, Lecter was a psychiatrist. In order to be a psychiatrist, especially one of Lecter's level, he would have to know about the human body, including which parts were vulnerable the most. Hannibal Lecter could easily have killed Light in one shot.
But he didn't want it to end so soon.
Hannibal Lecter aimed at Light, firing the pistol once. The bullet struck Light in the leg, causing Light to yell out in pain and fall to the floor, centimetres short of the Death Note. Blood was starting to squirt out from both his leg and his shoulder as he looked up at the Death Note. One more movement, and it would be back in his possession...
"I'll take that, thank you." Lecter said, having walked over to Light and swiping the Death Note from him. Light tried to grab his leg, but Lecter kicked the Death Note detective in the face, knocking him onto his other side. With Light temporarily incapacitated, Lecter investigated the Death Note's contents. What Lecter found was that it was full of names. But what also intrigued him was that some of them had instructions detailing how they would die. As Lecter looked onto the more recent pages, he saw the two aliases he had given himself and smiled. But more importantly, he came to a realisation. Some of those names he had seen sounded familiar, and he did recall some of them dying as the Death Note had specified, if not just dying of heart attacks. He also recalled Light's comments on a "twenty-second" gap. As he thought, he pieced together the book and it's purpose.
This book could kill in the way its wielder desired.
As Light groaned and coughed up blood, Lecter realised it was time for him to land the final blow. He turned Light onto his back, lying flat on the floor. Lecter smiled at him as he had the Death Note open, taking the pen from Light's pocket.
"I'll concede one thing. You have been very deceptive, Kira... if I can even call you as such any more." Lecter told him. Light's eyes narrowed. Was he about to uncover the truth? "I must not be the only one who has been constantly churning out lies this evening. How about you confide in good old Hannibal Lecter your name?"
"Y-you..." Light mumbled. Lecter smiled at him still, kneeling down to get a good look at his soon-to-be victim.
"Word to the wise, boy. He who puts pressure on others should expect to handle pressure themselves. Now, your name." Lecter was enjoying this procedure. Light understandably wasn't. And sure enough, Light wasn't answering his question.
Further discourtesy.
"Do you not realise you have lost?" Hannibal asked Light. "I'll say it again. Name. Or else I will bring you pain upon yourself and your loved ones through means you wouldn't even know were possible."
"G-gh..." Light groaned.
"Name." Hannibal firmly demanded, prodding Light's head with his own gun.
It was no use trying to run. The cannibal had him cornered. All options were gone.
"L-Light... Yagami..." he weakly surrendered. The Chesapeake Killer tilted his head at this before standing upright.
"Thank you, boy. I suppose it's time I put this caper to bed." Lecter told him, before looking onto a blank page of the Death Note. With it, he started writing in his own little command. "Light Yagami: Suicide. Will accept a knife from the first man he sees, then will lie on the floor and cut open his stomach." Light was chilled at what he was hearing. He could not believe it. His own tool was being used against him! "He will then pull out his liver to provide to said man, using whatever strength he has left. Finally, will bleed out from related injuries."
And with this, Lecter closed the Death Note and turned to Light, who seemed to be in some sort of trance. Lecter grinned, and presented the bloodstained knife to the detective.
"It's now or never if you want this, boy." Lecter told him quietly. Light looked at the knife before taking it out of Lecter's hand, and laid himself back down on the cold floor of the security hall. Then, Light suddenly stabbed his stomach with his knife, causing him to yell out as he cut his stomach open, revealing his internal organs to the cannibal and spilling blood everywhere. He then reached in weakly, holding in his hands his liver. Blood coated Light's hands, as well as his clothes and the floor around him. Lecter smiled at the dying Light Yagami as he tucked the Death Note under his arm, taking Light's liver.
"Why, thank you, friend. It's not often I receive gifts so generously. Be sure to send me a postcard when you arrive at the devil's door." Lecter told Light. Light's head then dropped, and his eyes closed. Kira was dead. Lecter then looked around at the dead bodies around him. He searched the bodies of one of the guards, and found a plastic bag, to which he put Light's liver inside, as well as Light's other internal organs. He then turned back to Light's dead body, before carefully picking it up and carrying it in his arms, walking off down the hall.
He then opened the door to an unknown room. It was dark, save for the light in an incinerator. Lecter opened the hatch and placed Light's body inside, turning away and leaving as Light's body burned. He felt he had everything he needed. The bag containing Light's organs in one hand, and the Death Note under his other arm. He was done for the night.
A dining room, the night after Hannibal Lecter's battle with Light Yagami
"I must say, Dr. Lecter, it is very nice of you to invite us to dinner this evening." a female guest was speaking at what seemed to be lunch with several other people. Lecter, at the head of the table, smiled. He had prepared meals for them all, being very skilled in culinary arts.
"Indeed. I wouldn't want to miss such a grand opportunity. I was, of course, worried that the injuries I had sustained during my time with Kira the night before would ruin the matters. But I have been able to since make a full recovery, and here we are." Lecter responded.
"Say, whatever became of that Kira person?" Another man asked him. Lecter paused. He had to think about his answer.
"Ah, yes, Kira." Lecter said, as if reminiscing. "A fine person. A shame that he had to leave on such short notice. But it is just one of those things life cannot prevent." He was enjoying his meal, as were the other guests, when another spoke up.
"This meal has an interesting taste." A younger man said. "What do you call this, Hannibal? What's your secret in this dish?" Lecter simply smiled at the man opposite him.
"A magician never reveals his secrets. Just enjoy it for what it is." Lecter simply responded. And with that, they continued their meals. Lecter, however, was smiling a little smugly. No-one knew where Kira had disappeared to. No-one knew what they were eating this night. No-one knew who was in possession of the Death Note now.
Except for Hannibal Lecter.

Boomstick: Geez! Talk about one way to make your 29th official kill!
Hoxton: Lecter with a Death Note? Watch out, everyone!
Wiz: As smart as Light Yagami is, Hannibal Lecter is just... significantly smarter. Light may have excelled in his class, being the top of the range, but Lecter is an older man, and has had time to study the art of psychiatric practices. On top of this, Lecter is a very calculating individual who remembers even the slightest detail and can use it against anyone who questions him. Light's acting skills mean pretty much nothing against the likes of Lecter, who has seen it all before and can calculate his own conclusions based on the actions he spots of others. Despite being capable of fooling a lot of people in the past, Light was simply not able to fool Lecter. In fact, Lecter was more likely to pull the rug out from under Light's feet due to being more persistent and having more armour-piercing questions as well as being able to fool people himself - including Will Graham, even if it was temporary.
Magneto: And while Light actually had weapons on his side, Lecter could easily take a hold of them if he needed to. Plus, for Light's acting skills, Lecter easily has a manipulative edge of his own when it comes to his speech. If he can convince someone like IJ Miggs to kill themselves despite there being no real reason for Miggs to do so apart from what he did to Starling, there's no reason he could overpower Light with his own strength and smarts, given that Lecter is physically stronger than Light. I mean, Light has no known formal combat training whereas it's been proven in Hannibal Rising that Lecter has at least got practice in swordplay when he was around the same age as Light, if not even younger.
Wesker: Also, remember that Light usually hasn't got many guaranteed methods of success outside of the Death Note, his gun and his knife. Lecter, on the other hand, has only one restriction - his Modus Operandi. And even then, there are several ways it can be triggered, and once it happens - and it will, given Light's tendencies - Lecter will immediately stop pulling his punches.
Boomstick: Light's best chance of winning was, of course, the Death Note, but like everything else Light had on his side, it was still not enough to turn the tide of battle. It was far more restrictive, especially since Lecter doesn't have to talk. And even if Light did have a name to write down, what are the chances that he would spell it correctly on the first attempt? Or that Lecter would actually give him the correct spelling? Or that Lecter would even give him anything that resembles his name?
Magneto: And that's based on the assumption that Lecter would even say anything to begin with, let alone help him with the correct spelling by actually providing something correct.
Wiz: And let's be honest... Lecter is much more calculating than Light. While Light can plan his actions several steps ahead of time before doing his business, Lecter can do so on the spot with just eyesight and his brainpower alone. It wouldn't be out of the question for him to notice the Death Note and deduce that it is important to Light, as well as also call into question why Light would be so persistent to know something as mundane as Hannibal's name. Add that to the fact that Lecter requires no hints as well as being the more stable-minded of the two, and Light could only delay the inevitable.
Hoxton: Probably tasted terrible, he did.
Boomstick: Take Note, people. Light was just one more lamb for Lecter to silence!
Wiz: The winner is Hannibal Lecter.
