Description[]

Resident Evil vs Half-Life!  Two ordinary people who take up the task of fending off some of the grossest and inhumane monsters out there... and we're not just talking about the zombies or aliens!  Who will win, the secret agent of the US Government, or the Black Mesa survivor?  Find out in the season premiere of the second season of Datamari's Death Battle!

Introduction[]

Neo: When the world needs saving, who needs a superhero in tights to do the job when these two ordinary guys can do the job just as well, and look… handsome while doing so.

Bubbles: Leon Kennedy, the zombie-slaying government agent from Resident Evil.

Koopa: And Gordon Freeman, Aperture’s silent scientist from Half-Life.

Neo: He’s Koopa, she’s Bubbles, and I’m Neo!

Koopa: And it’s our job to analyze their weapons, armor and skills to find out who would win…

Koopa, Bubbles and Neo: A DEATH BATTLE!

Leon Kennedy[]

Koopa: After graduating from the police academy at the age of 21, Leon Scott Kennedy took the first and biggest assignment he’d ever take.

Neo: Dispatched to Raccoon City, where he’d witness the deadly T-Virus outbreak firsthand!  Geez, couldn’t he have just taken a normal job, like… you know, handing out parking tickets?

Bubbles: The city had been overrun with zombies, but along with the help of Claire Redfield and Ada Wong, Leon was able to fend off the undead threat, if only for a short while.  From there, Leon would be recruited by the American government for their go-to guy for apocalyptic events.

Neo: Seems oddly specific, I mean, what kind of franchise would have apocalyptic events so frequently?  But anyways, being trained in both the police academy and experience as a special agent, Leon more than lives up to his titles!

Koopa: But don’t get it wrong, Leon doesn’t just fight your average slow, drooling walkers.  He regularly fights Bio Organic Weapons, or B.O.Ws, which can take the form of Lickers, Plaga, and Tyrants.

Neo: And these things are TERRIFYING, and crazy strong, so the fact that Leon can handle these abominations like minor annoyances should tell you everything, and he’s got the firepower needed to mow ‘em down!

Bubbles: Leon is an expert marksman, able to use just about any firearm at his disposal, including pistols, assault rifles, sniper rifles and launchers, but he does have his favorites, such as the Silver Ghost.  Although this gun is purely fictional, it is inspired by the Heckler & Koch USP.  He even sports a custom fifty caliber Desert Eagle as a gift from his father.

Neo: But those pale in comparison to some of Leon’s biggest weapons, such as his Rocket Launcher Special!  This beauty, which seems to resemble an RPG-7, can fire up to 600 feet and take out some of the biggest nastys out there!  And while firearms are cool and all, Leon’s true strength lies within his knife!

Koopa: It may not look like much at first, but Leon is an expert with this weapon, capable of throwing it farther, harder, and more precise than most.  It can cut through padlocks, and he can throw it almost exactly where he wants it to, even if the target is over hundreds of feet away.

Bubbles: For being in a world full of horrible monsters with terrifying designs, Leon is one of the most powerful soldiers to combat this threat. He’s survived car crashes, pushed over massive boulders, dodged bullets, and has beaten opponents such as Krauser and Arias, and of course, the B.O.Ws.

Neo: Leon was even able to hold back this mutant shark’s bite!  It looks like a standard Great White, which has a biting force of 2 metric tons!  He also pushed over a large boulder, which, even if we cut it in half because there’s two people doing the pushing, he still would’ve had to have been strong enough to push over 4.5 tons of rock!

Koopa: Additionally, Leon has been able to outrun the Tyrant, which can run up to 43 miles per hour.  That’s nearly twice as fast as Usain Bolt’s 27.8 miles per hour run, and Leon was able to outrun that kind of speed.

Neo: And man, can this dude take a hit!  I mean, he gets knocked around by giant monsters on the daily, and he gets back up like a goddamn soldier!  But while Leon does seem like an unstoppable badass, he’s still very much a human and can die by normal means, even if it takes more than stabbing or shooting him.  Plus… you think he ever gets annoyed by how long he likes to keep his hair?

Koopa: Leon is tough and grizzled, seeing his fair share of traumatizing monsters constantly.  While this allowed him to fight them on the daily without ever showing fear, it made Leon struggle with self-care and even turned him to alcoholism.

Bubbles: Still, Leon time and time again has been able to overcome the David vs Goliath-like scenarios he gets himself in, making him a real HAZARD to the Umbrella Corps!

Neo: ...Bubs, just let me do the jokes from now on, okay?

Leon: Where's everyone going? Bingo?

Gordon Freeman[]

Koopa: As a graduate of MIT with a Ph.D in theoretical physics, Gordon Freeman was your average scientist, but he would soon become a figurehead in an incoming alien invasion.

Neo: He worked at Black Mesa, a research corporation who dabbled in all matters of physics.  But instead of doing regular science stuff like sending a monkey to the moon or making lasers, they worked on stuff like teleportation and dimensional-travel!  Elon Musk would be wetting his pants right about now.

Bubbles: Gordon was assigned to this branch of Mesa, and after carrying out a request by two other scientists, he’s transported to an alien planet called Xen.  He eventually returns to Earth, but finds the test chamber absolutely destroyed.  As it turns out, after the incident involving the Spectrometer, the fabric of space and time was torn apart, allowing aliens from Xen to pass over into our own.

Koopa: From there, Gordon would need to escape the laboratory while fighting aliens, as well as avoiding the Hazardous Environment Combat Unit, sent to kill not only the aliens, but the scientists as to cover up the incident ever happening.

Neo: And to do this, Gordon would need the firepower to take ‘em all down!  He can use just about any firearm, but his primary favorites are a USP Match 9mm pistol, a Colt Python, an MP5 Submachine Gun, a SPAS-12 Shotgun, and an Overwatch Standard Issue Pulse Rifle, which comes equipped with a Dark Energy Ball shooter!

Bubbles: This pulse blast instantly disintegrates anything it touches, and is even capable of bouncing off of solid surfaces for surprise attacks. Gordon has quite a few more absurd weapons at his disposal, such as the Gauss Gun and the Tau Cannon.  But his choice of melee weapon is his most iconic; the crowbar.

Koopa: Just like a regular crowbar, it can be used to pry open doors or even break down wooden barriers, but Gordon can also use it as a melee weapon quite efficiently.  Alongside his trusty crowbar is his armor, the H.E.V. Suit Mark V, which has its own shielding system, protects Gordon from radiation, and can survive bullets and even explosions.

Neo: But by far his wackiest gun is his Zero Point Energy Field Manipulator, but because science is for nerds, it’s commonly referred to as the Gravity Gun!  This beauty can pick up almost any object and send it flying with its secondary fire, even if it’s as heavy as a 2 ton car!  Perfect for finding parking spots!

Bubbles: Though it does have its limits, as it cannot pick up living beings, and of course, can’t pick up *everything.*  With these advanced weapons, Gordon was able to escape the Black Mesa facility and stopped the invasion of Earth by defeating the Nihilanth, the leader of the Xen forces.

Koopa:  And while that wouldn’t be the end of Gordon’s adventures, his experience was more than enough to combat anything and everything. He’s strong enough to harm Headcrabs, Vortigaunts and Gargantuas, all of which are capable of tearing down walls and metal doors, fast enough to dodge gunfire and rockets, and is durable enough to take hits from a Strider, which can obliterate buildings.

Neo: And thanks to his work at Black Mesa, he’s taken down monstrous aliens like the Nihilanth!  Seriously, look at this thing, it looks like a giant baby!

Bubbles: Gordon has quite the resume, but at the end of the day, he’s still a human, and can die by normal means despite the suit giving him immense protection.  Plus, he isn’t exactly combat trained, so when the guns are off the table, he may not be at his best.

Koopa: However, Gordon Freeman, despite starting out as a lowly scientist with nothing to his name, showed that you didn’t need an ultra-powerful weapon or superpowers to save the world.  He may be a man of few words, but he truly is one free man.

G-Man: The right man in the wrong place can make all the difference in the world. So, wake up, Mr. Freeman. Wake up and smell the ashes.

Interlude[]

Koopa: Alright, the combatants are set, let’s end this debate once and for all.

Neo: It’s time for a DEATH BATTLE!!!

Pre-Fight[]

In the desolate, darkness-covered Raccoon City, zombies lazily limped around aimlessly, with their only drive being their next meal.  However, they seemed attracted by an oncoming vehicle, whose engine roared throughout the city like a dinner bell.  It was a large car with an exposed front, and a man in an orange suit and glasses drove it through the streets.  Meanwhile, a younger man on a motorcycle rode through the same city, on the same road as the larger car.  Leon and Gordon saw each other in the distance, with Leon sliding his motorcycle to a screeching halt.  He stood in front of his vehicle, waiting for the mysterious person to slow their vehicle down as well, though he didn’t seem to let up whatsoever.  As the car sped towards Leon, it finally stopped as Gordon slammed his foot on the brakes, causing it to just barely come close to Leon, though he didn’t seem to flinch.

Gordon got out of the car, staring Leon down as he adjusted his glasses.

Leon: What are you doing here?  No one’s supposed to be here.

Gordon: …

Leon: Not much of a talker, are you?

Gordon huffed and went to go back to his muscle car, though Leon quickly intervened, putting his hand on Gordon as the man in the orange armor shoved him away and pulled out a pistol, with Leon doing the same.

Leon: Alright, Mr. Chatty.  Let’s see what you’ve got.

FIGHT!

Fight[]

Leon shot his gun first, though the bullet only seemed to make Gordon flinch as it flattened on his HEV suit.  Leon looked visibly confused, but quickly dodged a bullet from Gordon’s gun as he ran at him and hit him with a shoulder tackle.  Gordon stumbled and dropped his gun, blocking each of Leon’s blows by crossing his arm.  Eventually, Leon quickly twisted and brought his leg up, delivering a sickening roundhouse kick to Gordon as he flew backwards.

Gordon quickly got up and took out his SMG, firing at Leon.  The officer dodged behind the muscle car, and took out his own rifle, firing at Gordon.  The two took turns firing at each other from their covers, before Gordon eventually fired a grenade with his secondary fire, blowing up the car as Leon flew backwards, crashing through an abandoned shop window.  Leon quickly got up and noticed the shop was littered with zombies, all of which slowly walked towards Leon, like moths to a flame.  Gordon walked over to the window to see if his opponent had been finished off, only to be met with a jumping punch to the face, and a quick combination of punches.  Leon pulled out his knife and brought it down towards Gordon, but was blocked by his crowbar.

Leon: What kinda weapon is that?

The two clashed weapons, but they noticed the zombies crawling out of the shop.  Leon took out his pistol once more, and Gordon took out his Pulse Rifle.  The two shot down the zombies, though Gordon backed away as Leon was focused, taking his crowbar and swinging it onto the back of Leon’s head, causing him to stagger as the zombies grew closer to him.  Gordon ran away, getting in his muscle car, which miraculously still worked.  Leon was able to get the zombies off of him, but noticed Gordon had fled.

Leon: Hey, get back here!

Leon got on his motorcycle and went after Gordon, catching up to him soon after.  The two rode side-by-side, taking out their pistols and firing at one another.  They both swerved on the road, though they maintained control.  Leon then took out his knife and threw it at Gordon’s tire, causing it to topple over and crash on the side of the road.  Leon brought his bike to a screeching halt, and walked over to see if Gordon had been defeated.  To his surprise, the car itself began floating with some sort of blue aura around it, and it suddenly flew towards Leon, crashing into a building.  Despite this, he got up, got his knife from the tire, and held his stomach, only to see Gordon lifting his motorcycle with the Gravity Gun.  Gordon threw it at Leon once he saw him, only this time, he was able to dodge it and run towards the scientist.  Gordon attempted to throw a nearby crate at Leon, but he was able to slice through it with his knife, breaking apart.  Leon finally got some punches in on Gordon, eventually taking out his shotgun and firing straight into Gordon’s chest, causing him to fall back.  Leon took out his pistol and pointed it at Gordon’s head.

Leon: It’s over!  You can’t beat me.

Gordon looked up at Leon and couldn’t help but smirk.  A faint ticking sound could be heard, as Gordon set off a grenade and sent it rolling.  Leon saw this and immediately ran away, only partly being caught by the grenade’s explosion as he flew back, rolling on the ground.  He looked at the explosion, but the man in the glasses still stood.

Leon: How are you still alive?!

Gordon took out his Pulse Rifle, and charged it up.  Leon quickly stood, waiting for whatever trick his opponent had planned next.  The gun fired a white energy ball, and Leon threw his knife at it in reaction, causing it to bounce upwards.  Gordon looked up to see his ace-in-the-hole gone, only for Leon to unload his SMG into Gordon.

HEV Suit: Vital signs critical, seek medical attention.

After unloading his magazine, Leon dashed forward and roundhouse kicked Gordon, causing his glasses to finally fall off.  As Gordon struggled to see, the last thing he saw was a blurry image of Leon holding a rocket launcher.  He fired it, and exploded right onto Gordon, killing him instantly.  Leon fell back in exhaustion, wiping his forehead.

Leon: Game over.

Post Fight[]

K.O!
Neo: You know, he could’ve ended that fight way sooner if he knew about console commands.

Koopa: This was a tough one to decide.  Gordon may have fended off an alien invasion AND fought in an uprising, but when it comes to actual skill, Leon just takes the cake.  For one, while the HEV suit does protect Gordon from military-grade firepower, it has a limit to how much it can take, so it would’ve only been a matter of time before it severely handicapped Gordon.

Neo: So really, the question was whether or not Leon had the firepower and skill to get past it, and spoilers, he did!  While he didn’t really have the same amount of guns as Gordon, most of them were pretty comparable to one another, maybe aside from the more advanced weapons like the Pulse Rifle and Tau Cannon.  But Leon’s dodged lasers and gunfire before, so these weren’t anything outside of his ballpark.  Hell, Leon’s physically stronger than the Gravity Gun!

Bubbles: Gordon can move around objects more freely and for as long as he wants, but it can push over a 2 ton car, which is over 7 tons lighter than the boulder Leon pushed over.  Even if you half the result, Leon is still stronger.  And while the HEV suit can take gunfire, it doesn’t grant him immunity, and at some point, it’ll kill him.  Plus, Leon has far more consistent combat training, and regularly deals with giant monsters, and even opponents comparable to or even stronger than Gordon on a daily basis.

Neo: And even though they were both pretty smart in coming up with new and creative ways to take each other out, Leon’s gotten himself out of way hairier situations thanks to his mid-battle critical thinking, while Gordon’s pretty much always had a bigger advantage in fights than it looks at first.

Koopa: Gordon was a challenge for Leon, but Leon’s combat ability and years of experience was able to outdo the scientist’s tough armor and superior weaponry.

Neo: Looks like Leon did some HEVy lifting!

Bubbles: The winner is Leon Kennedy.
