Lelouch vi Britannia vs. Light Yagami is a What-If? episode of Death Battle, pitting Lelouch vi Britannia from Code Geass against Light Yagami from Death Note.

Description[]

Code Geass VS Death Note! Zero VS Kira! Which teenage tactical genius will prove wittier in this unique game of tactical chess?

Interlude[]

Wiz: Anime geniuses: the ones with ambiguous morality and have big plans which leave the rest of us speechless.

Boomstick: Those magnificent bastards. Like Lelouch vi Britannia, AKA Zero, the user of Geass.

Wiz: And Light Yagami, AKA Kira, the user of the Death Note.

Boomstick: He's Wiz and I'm Boomstick!

Wiz: It's our job to analyze their weapons, armor, and skills to see who would win... a Death Battle.

Lelouch[]

Wiz: In the year 2000, the child Lelouch vi Britannia was born as the son of Charles zi Britannia. He was to be the next heir to the throne.

Boomstick: Whiiiiiich kinda didn't work out, because his mother was killed off and his sister was left completely crippled. When Lelouch turned ten, he and his sister were kinda sent to Japan, or as the Britannian Government called it, "Area 11".

Wiz: Lelouch eventually met who would become his best friend, rival, enemy, frenemy, and, well, everything in between all at once, Suzaku Kururugi, as well as some friends at high school whom formed he a school club with.

Boomstick: But of course, that takes place BEFORE Code Geass actually happened. Y'see, when things got important, Lelouch and his idiot friend Rivelz were on a motorcycle after Lelouch totally kicked some guy's ass at chess, and by a stroke of luck, Lelouch met this girl C.C.. Man, that lucky bastard. I want some C.C. for myself.

Wiz: Well, her name is actually pronounced "C-two", but that's a common mistake. Anyway, the mysterious C.C. gave Lelouch a unique power which he eventually found out was called "Geass". He very soon discovered he could use this power to make anyone obey him, and do exactly as he would ask them to do, under a very specific ruleset.

Boomstick: For starters, it requires eye contact for it to even work.

Wiz: Lelouch's Geass can only be used once per target, and immediately after targets complete the task they are given, they forget all about everything that happened while under the influence of Geass.

Boomstick: And finally, it must be physically possible for whatever his opponent to do for it to work. Because they can't do something that's not physically possible, right?

Wiz: Well, technically, they will still be under the influence of Geass, but if it's physically impossible, the target will attempt to do it anyway. Obviously, this will fail, and the target will be under the influence of Geass until death.

Boomstick: Man, that's a really bad way to die.

Wiz: Lelouch then set out on a mission to overthrow the Britannian Government, and create a peaceful world for his sister Nunnally. With the power of Geass and strategy on his side, he figured that he could actually do it. Gathering up an army of vigilantes known as the Black Knights and donning the alias "Zero", Lelouch had a plan.

Boomstick: A ton of 'em, really.

Wiz: Lelouch is also a strategic and tactical genius, using the powers of Geass in ways most people would never even think to do. For example, he once used Geass on himself in order to forget a plan of attack on resident Geass user Mao.

Boomstick: But the big problem with Geass is, that he can lose control of it. Like when he told his sister to commit genocide.

(Euphemia's scene of killing all the Japanese people plays)

Wiz: That...

Boomstick: I know, terrible.

Wiz: Anyway, yes. Lelouch can lose control of his Geass and end up using it on someone, which usually results in him giving a command that he never intended for them to actually do. Man, Lelouch is just really bad with jokes.

Boomstick: Damn. Well, Lelouch's Geass is powerful and all, but if he needs some extra pressure...

Wiz: ...

(Wiz and Boomstick both laugh hysterically)

Wiz: Yeah, he has a pistol, and... well, that's about it. He's not even a particularly good shot.

Boomstick: And this guy has almost no physical abilities to speak of whatsoever! He once held onto Shirley while jumping off of a building, and one time outran his classmates-

Wiz: That was complete plot-induced stupidity, by the way. Anyway, Lelouch is taking remedial P.E.. Let that sink in.

Boomstick: But even then so, like I said, Lelouch is a genius. He's smart enough to win almost every time in chess, except against his equally smart brother- (begins laughing)

Wiz: What is it?

Boomstick: This guy's name... is Schneizel! What kind of a name is that?!

Wiz: Ugh... anyway, yes. Lelouch's biggest foe, throughout all of this, was his brother Schneizel. It always seemed like Schneizel was one step ahead of Lelouch, and usually thanks to a stroke of really bad luck, Lelouch's plans were usually ruined. But that didn't stop him in the end, when he pulled off some of the greatest feats ever, such as outsmarting the entire Britannian Government, using Geass to great effect to defeat his enemies, using Geass on God himself, and even pulling off a successful Thanatos Gambit and creating world peace, as well as a safe world for his sister, like his original plan was.

Boomstick: Lelouch's biggest struggle was never against Charles zi Britannia, or Schneizel, or Suzaku, or Rolo. It was with... really bad luck.

Lelouch: Cats and tomatoes don't mix.

Light[]

Wiz: As an overachiever bound for a good life ahead of him, the high school student Light Yagami's life took a drastic turn one day, when the Shinigami Ryuk dropped a mysterious notebook from the Shinigami realm.

Boomstick: He looks like a member of KISS.

Wiz: When Light found this notebook, he took it for himself to see what mysterious contents it held. He soon found out that it was a Death Note, and that he could use it to kill anyone he wanted by simply writing their names.

Boomstick: Except, it came with a few... rules, kinda.

Wiz: The Death Note only works if Light knows the exact spelling of the target's whole name, and if he has the target's face in mind. It is also up to Light to determine the time, place, and circumstances of his foes' deaths, and if he doesn't specify, then the targets will die in forty seconds due to a heart attack.

Boomstick: So to try it out, he killed some criminal with it. Then he killed another one. And another one. And another one. And a shit-ton more. And then the police force noticed that something was kinda sketchy, and then Light started to kill members of them too.

Wiz: It was then that Light decided his end goal: To essentially play God, and to kill off anyone who was a criminal. With Ryuk by his side as a sort of adviser, Light fancied himself to be unstoppable. That is, until L came into the situation.

Boomstick: That's when Light sorta went mad with power, and then just began killing off criminal by criminal. But then he came up with the most convoluted and insane plan ever.

Wiz: After learning about the power of the Shinigami from Ryuk, Light came up with the plan to turn himself in as Kira, the new name that the public gave to the anonymous killer who was passing judgment, and destroy the Death Note so that people would only think Light was insane. The best part? Light forgot all about it, and from there allowed himself to start all over again.

Boomstick: Light and L were sorta like frenemies... but... except... really... really... intense.

Wiz: The two of them were constantly at each others' throats, and Light devoted his time to trying to out-gambit L and the entire police force, until he crossed the moral event horizon and went from anti-hero to straight villain.

Boomstick: And the worst part? Light actually succeeded in the end. He killed L and his dad, abandoned his family, and then, well, died.

Wiz: Now, in case the Death Note isn't an option, Light has...

(Wiz and Boomstick laugh hysterically again)

Wiz: Well, he's a better hand-to-hand fighter than Lelouch, at least. He possesses the strength and speed of an average man his age, and because he is a detective, he has a gun and a knife. The knife, in particular, was more used for interrogation and threat than it was for actually killing.

Boomstick: Light is a genius, and has managed to outsmart an entire police force, including his own dad. He's a perfect actor, fooling people into believing him by just he way he acts alone. Seriously! He can fool anyone!

Wiz: But most impressively, Light threw the entire world into chaos under the persona of Kira. But unfortunately, Light is not perfect. In addition to his average strength and weapons, he is essentially mad with power, and his Death Note isn't indestructible or foolproof and as such won't always save him.

Boomstick: But what can you expect from a guy who could kill you by writing your name?

Light: I will take a potato chip... AND EAT IT!

DEATH BATTLE![]

Light Yagami's room

It was a normal night for the student Light Yagami. He was going about his usual business - killing criminals with the Death Note, doing his homework, eating potato chips...

But then suddenly the television he was watching showed a news report.

"It has been said that the mysterious Zero is closer to achieving his goal of taking over the world." the female news reporter stated.

Light stopped writing for a second. He caught a glimpse of the mysterious "Zero" - he looked to be a man of average height, but was dressed in a black cloak and a mysterious blue helmet which shielded his face. He spoke and moved in a very passionate and over-the-top way, and it seemed he was commanding an army of mechas.

"Zero, huh?" Light huffed a big breath as he began thinking.

Ryuk approached from behind Light. "What could it be this time?" asked the Shinigami, munching on an apple.

Light turned to face Ryuk. "That Zero guy... he's trying to take over the world. I'm not gonna let him. That's MY job. He won't do it before Kira does." Light stated to the Shinigami. Ryuk gave a wide smile as Light began writing down a plan.

Lelouch vi Britannia's room, a few days later

Lelouch vi Britannia had gotten done commanding his troops for the day, and he knew that tomorrow would be a good taking-down-Britannia day as well.

"Have you thought over your plan carefully?" C.C. asked Lelouch.

Lelouch removed his helmet and grinned at the woman. "Yes, I have gone over every possible outcome of this plan, and there's no way I could fail this time." He was about to begin writing out his plan, when suddenly he saw a news story on the television.

"Many criminals have been found dead, in what can no longer be described as a coincidence. The public has dubbed this mysterious killer 'Kira'." said the male reporter.

Lelouch grinned as his eye lit up with the Geass symbol.

"What is it, Lelouch?" asked C.C.

"This Kira... he sounds like the kind of person who'd be a threat to my goal... but on top of that, he sounds like a genius, like myself..." Lelouch muttered, then smirked.

The interior of a random building with a chess table, a few days later

Light and Ryuk approached from the left side of the room, and Light sat down at the left side of the table. Light had packed his knife and gun, and was ready to use the Death Note at any time.

"Wouldn't you consider this cheating?" Ryuk asked Light.

Light turned to face Ryuk again. "No way, it's not like this Zero person can even see or hear you. He'll think I'm by myself."

Lelouch (dressed as Zero) and C.C. approached from the right side, and Lelouch sat at the right side of the table. He had a gun on hand, but more importantly, he had a command ready to give his opponent at any moment.

"Are you Kira?!" Zero asked, with his over-the-top and dramatic voice.

Light gave a deliberately shocked expression. "Oh no, you must be mistaken. Are you expecting him?"

Hmm... he looks innocent enough... but who knows what he could actually be thinking... Lelouch thought to himself. He was trying to come up with an answer to Light's question.

"You know, while you wait, why not keep me company and play some chess with me?" Light challenged.

This got Lelouch pumped up. He could never turn down a good game of chess. C.C. stayed behind Lelouch, eating pizza.

Light turned to face Ryuk again. "See, Ryuk, he's got someone with him too. Except I can see her, and he can't see you. I say we have the upper hand."

"Are we going to play or what?!" asked Zero. Light turned around again.

The two began thinking, and then Light spoke.

"You go first."

FIGHT!

Lelouch moved a pawn forward, and Light similarly moved one forward as well. The two moved pawns forward until they were at their second lines of chess pieces.

Hmm... for someone who's supposedly a genius, he doesn't make very good chess moves, does he? Light thought to himself.

"I don't know." replied Ryuk, grinning. Light turned to face Ryuk again, then began thinking.

What could he be talking about this time?

Suddenly, Lelouch made another move - he moved his king forward.

Light observed this move, then tilted his head in confusion. "Now, why would you make a move like that?" Light asked with a smirk.

Lelouch grinned at Light. "If the king does not lead, how can he expect his subordinates to follow?"

C.C. stopped eating her pizza for a second. "Lelouch, are you sure this is a good move? This man may be more dangerous to you than you think."

Light began thinking. So his first name is "Lelouch"... okay... He then moved his bishop towards Lelouch's king, and he was set up to win. Light would have this chess game won in only another move.

Inside of Zero's mask, it was shown that Lelouch had given his typical "Oh crap!" expression. No... I haven't been beaten in chess since... Schneizel!

Light grinned. He suddenly had almost all of the information he needed. He observed everyone else around. Hmm... all I need to do is get everyone else to leave, then I can easily get his name and face...

"An eye for an eye makes the whole world blind." Ryuk advised Light.

Light sighed at Ryuk, but then realized he was likely saying something cryptic and helpful to him. He tried thinking about what that could possibly mean, but then he thought of something. I'll fire at that wall over there, quickly conceal my gun, and everyone will want to leave. Light pulled out his pistol.

Lelouch backed up towards C.C. He's got a gun... there's only one thing we can do.

"Tread lightly, Lelouch." responded C.C.

Light fired at a nearby wall instead of shooting at Zero, then everyone around noticed what was going on.

"Is that Zero?"

"He's gonna kill us!"

"He's got a gun!"

"What if he has his whole army with him?!"

Before too long, everyone was running for their lives out of the building. Then, Light flipped over the chess table, pulled out his interrogation knife, and held it to Zero's throat.

"Okay, Zero. I've seen everything you've done on television. Your reign of terror ends now." Light pushed the knife closer to Zero's throat.

Lelouch, however, knew that he wasn't going down just yet. He knew what he would have to do as he reached for the gun in his pocket.

"If you wish for me to spare your life, tell me your name." Light commanded.

Just before Lelouch could pull out his gun, he stopped. He only wants my name? This isn't good... if I give him my name, then he could reveal me as Zero to the public... But I haven't used Geass on him, so I think I could get away with telling him... Zero then sighed. "Alright, young man, I shall confide in you my name. I am... Lelouch Lamperouge." Zero answered, rather quietly.

Light smiled and withdrew his knife. "Now, if you don't mind, may you remove your helmet?"

Lelouch gave that "Oh crap!" face again. If he showed his face, then Light could definitely take a picture of his face and show it to the public. He still had Geass ready...

Light's smile diminished into an angry scowl, then he pulled his knife, grabbed hold of C.C., then held it to her throat. "Remove your helmet, or the girl gets it." Light threatened.

Lelouch still refused to budge. He really doesn't know then... Maybe I'll be safe after all.

Light tilted his head at Zero, seeing that he didn't even flinch as he threatened him with C.C.'s life. Just as he promised, he quickly slit C.C.'s throat as blood spilled all over the floor and C.C. fell down onto the ground. "You're next." threatened Light. He pulled his knife on Zero, who pulled his gun.

"I don't know what you're waiting for," Ryuk cryptically told Light.

Light stopped again, knowing that his next move could hurt him. If I kill this man with my own weapons, I'll be branded as a killer... I killed that girl over there, and now I need to come up with a way to cover that up...

Instead of going for his weaponry, Light punched Zero in the stomach, then kicked him against a wall. He grabbed hold of Lelouch's helmet, then forcefully removed it as he got a glimpse of Lelouch's face.

Oh no! Lelouch thought to himself. He's seen my face... he's seen too much...

Light reached for his Death Note, then began writing a name down. "Lelouch... Lamperouge..." Light wrote down quickly. He watched his watch as forty seconds passed, and nothing happened. An... alias?!

Lelouch quickly ran in front of light as the Geass symbol became apparent in his eye. "I, Lelouch vi Britannia-"

Before Lelouch could even finish what he was about to say, Light stabbed Lelouch in the shoulder, sending him down to the ground.

"Thank you." Light replied with a smile. He began to laugh maniacally. "You know, it's people like you who make me sick. Always trying to rebuild this world in your image. Encouraging crime. Trying to set up total anarchy. Interfering with my plans!" Light picked up the Death Note once more as he began writing a name down. "Lelouch V. Britannia." Light jotted down. He waited forty seconds, but again, nothing happened. "What...?!"

Lelouch ripped the knife out of his body then approached the now-shocked Light. "You know, Kira..."

Light gasped.

"Those who kill... should be ready to be killed themselves." Lelouch looked Light in the eyes. "I, Lelouch vi Britannia command you..."

Light tried to think his way out of this one, but he couldn't. He was frozen. He could not move or even look away. So that's what Ryuk meant with all the 'eye' talk...

"Kill yourself."

Light tried to resist, but he couldn't. He felt himself take his pistol from his pocket, then aim it at his neck. He fired his pistol as the shot severed his head from his body, painting the entire wall with his blood.

K.O.!

C.C. got back up, her slit throat completely regenerated.

"You handled that one nicely." C.C. said to Lelouch.

Lelouch nodded. "Thank you, C-2." He replied. He picked up the Death Note that Light had, then began looking through it. "Hmm... a notebook which can kill anyone by writing their names in it..." He threw it out the window. "I have no need."

Suddenly, there was a news story on.

"The mysterious man in the red jacket was spotted earlier today, jumping on the rooftops of Area 11 and supposedly shooting at others. Everything else is all but unknown."

Results[]

Boomstick: So much for taking a potato chip and eating it.

Wiz: This match... well, I think it was very easy to tell it was very... unorthodox. Given the circumstances of the two fighters, and how they possessed very little way of killing each other, there were only a select few factors it came down to.

Boomstick: It's easy to say that Light and Lelouch are equally smart. Yes, Light's plans work out better than Lelouch's, but that's because Light is generally luckier. But what it came down to was Geass vs. Death Note.

Wiz: Light's Death Note is very restrictive, and not exactly something he could use at the start. He would have to deliberately stall out the match and avoid Lelouch's Geass, something which he would almost certainly not be able to do. Also, because Zero goes anonymous and goes by both Lamperouge and vi Britannia, Light would have a difficult time getting his name, and especially his face because Lelouch wears a mask.

Boomstick: In terms of advisers, C.C. outclassed Ryuk in almost every way. She could directly help and influence Lelouch, while Ryuk is more cryptic and would force Light to focus on more than one thing during the battle, which he would have to do anyway.

Wiz: But Lelouch's Geass... now that's what sold him this one. "Oh, but Wiz! Wouldn't Light's will and God complex prevent him from killing himself?" Well, technically, the only targets who were able to resist Lelouch's Geass were those with inherent resistances, and Euphemia, who only managed to resist it for a couple of seconds. She was someone very passionate about protecting the Japanese people, and she was commanded to kill them, so it stands to reason that Light's will to stay alive wasn't any better than Euphemia's to protect the Japanese.

Boomstick: Take Note, Light. Lelouch kicked your Ge-Ass.

Wiz: The winner is Lelouch vi Britannia.

Lelouch wins

Description[]

Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion vs Death Note! Two tactical geniuses with a strong sense of justice and a desire to change the world using their supernatural powers go against each other in a battle to the death! When two geniuses step into the ring, who will win?

Interlude[]

Counter: Justice. It's something we, as humans, strive for. When someone does a bad thing, people always want to see them pay for their crimes.

Kaiya: Like these two genius, teenage prodigies!

Lelouch intro

Damien: Lelouch vi Britannia, the 11th Prince of the Holy Britannian Empire, AKA Zero, the masked vigilante.

Light Yagami intro

Hannah: And Light Yagami, the first Kira and God of the New World.

Counter: I'm Counter and these are my partners, Damien, Kai and Hannah!

Kaiya: And we've taken over from Wiz and Boomstick to analyse the two's weapons armour and skills to find out who would win a Death Battle!

Lelouch vi Britannia[]

Counter: Born to Britannian leaders Charles zi Britannia, and Imperial Consort Marianne, Lelouch vi Britannia was always destined for power. Smart, in line for the throne and attractive, what more could you want?

Hannah: But at the young age of 10, tragedy struck. His mother was riddled with bullets mysteriously, and his sister Nunnally was caught in the crossfire, leaving her blinded and crippled, bound to a wheelchair.

Damien: And that's when it all went downhill. Lelouch confronted his father about leaving his mother defenceless, and in his grief and anger even renounced his entitlement to the throne. But his father totally blew him off, and went as far as to banish the young Britannian to Japan as a political hostage.

Kaiya: And it was then that his goal was set in stone. He would destroy Britannia to avenge his mother's death and to provide a safe place for his sister to live in. Awww, what a good brother!

Counter: As a teenager, Lelouch and his friend were caught in an accident, which turned out to be just what Lelouch needed. After a chance meeting with a strange girl named C.C. -pronounced C-Two-, Lelouch was granted the power of Geass, the absolute ability to make someone do whatever he orders them to.

Hannah: It manifested itself in Lelouch's left eye, in a bird-like symbol, and from there, Lelouch began his journey to destroy Britannia, donning a cloak and helmet to become the masked vigilante simply known as...Zero.

Kaiya: ...Really? Zero? What kind of a name is that?

Lelouch Background

Damien: Either way, Lelouch is incredibly skilled. He has a genius-level intelligence, able to come up with complicated battle plans and strategies in an instant! Like calculating exactly where to position to use the Absolute Defense System, while being attacked! He devised a plan to use a landslide to isolate and weaken the far superior forces he was fighting against, led by Cornelia, who established Area 18 and submitted the Middle Eastern Federation with one unit!

Counter: He can manipulate crowds of people with simple speeches, convincing them to join the Black Knights. He has lead his group of Black Knights against overwhelming odds and, perhaps the strangest example, coming with 14 different possibilities of who Mao is after he said C.C.'s name in an instant, one of which turned out to be correct. He has also been able to predict Mao's actions in order to trick and defeat him!

Kaiya: And in just 19 seconds, he was able to program the counter to the F.L.E.I.J.A., typing incredibly fast. Not to mention, he's near unbeatable in a good game of chess, winning a game in a record 8 minutes and 32 seconds. It's said that Lelouch would get very high grades if he simply put effort into his schoolwork. What a nerd, haha!'

Hannah: But Lelouch's main weapon is the title of his anime, the Geass. By just looking someone in the eye, he can command them to do anything he wants them to, including actions such as forgetting memories, committing genocide and even if he wants to, getting someone to kill themselves.

Damien: Lelouch can even use it on himself, and no-one can resist it for more than a few seconds! Buuuuut, it does come with a few rules. He can only use the Geass once per person and the person forgets anything they may have done while under the effects of the Geass.

Counter: He does need direct eye contact to use it, but a reflection works just as well as directly looking at someone. It's the reason Lelouch's Zero helmet has a retractable plate on the left eye, allowing easy use of the Geass. The action Lelouch commands someone to take must be capable by that person, and if it isn't, they'll attempt to do it anyway.

Kaiya: And if the action is completely against the person's morals, or they highly object to it, they'd be able to resist it slightly. But the biggest drawback of the Geass is that the more someone uses it, the more they lose control of it, ending up with Lelouch getting what is known as a 'Runaway Geass' due to losing control of it.

Hannah: And so, the Geass was permanently stuck in both of his eyes, unable to be turned off. But Lelouch's Geass is powerful even with these limitations, and Lelouch has used it to great effect, even once on God himself.

Damien: But if the Geass doesn't cut it, Lelouch also has a gun! He mainly uses it for threatening people or for intimidation, but that doesn't mean he can't fight with it! He killed Prince Clovis with it and was forced to kill Euphemia after accidentally commanding her to kill the Japanese as a result of the Runaway Geass.

Kaiya: ...Damn. Dick move, Lelouch.

Lelouch Arsenal

Counter: Regardless, Lelouch persisted. He became Emperor, abolished all the oppressive Britannian laws, freed every colony, including the numbers and came up with the perfect plan to create a safe world: His own death. He used the benevolent acts as a smokescreen to cover up his plan to take over the world, and after all the world's hate was pushed onto him, he planned his own execution to restore peace.

Hannah: Unfortunately for Lelouch, he has little physical ability to speak of. He isn't very athletic, which results in many people outpacing him, and he relies on weapons such as his Geass and gun.

Damien: Yeah...In fact, Lelouch's biggest strength feat was holding up Shirley that one, specific time. But let this sink in: Lelouch is taking remedial P.E. classes, and he even skips most of them. Not a good move for the leader of a rebellion to not be able to run 100 metres but hey, I guess commanding people to do whatever you want makes up for it, huh?

Lelouch Feats

Kaiya: But his biggest obstacle was against his brother Schnitzel-

Counter: Schneizel.

Kaiya: -Who always seemed to be one step ahead of him. Not to mention, Lelouch is just...really unlucky, and some of his plans only fell through because Lelouch just had...one stroke of bad luck.

Counter: Lelouch is also arrogant, volatile and emotionally unstable, willing to sacrifice any civilians who might get in the way. This also displayed some of Lelouch's hypocritical tendencies, as while usually able to sacrifice anyone, the minute it affected someone he cared about, Lelouch had second thoughts.

Hannah: But even with these flaws, Lelouch can accomplish anything he puts his mind to, no matter how insurmountable his odds may be.

("Those of you with power, fear us! Those of you without it, rally behind us! We, the Black Knights, shall be the ones who stand in judgement of this world!")

Light Yagami[]

Counter: The concept of death is the deepest and most confusing mystery of life or lack thereof. Far beyond our own universe, there is a realm populated by gods that can influence the time and situation of someone's life and death.

Kaiya: But the barren and empty land isn't exactly all fun and games. The Shinigami known as Ryuk was bored out of his mind, and, wanting to have fun, dropped his supernatural Death Note down to Earth, catching the attention of one Light Yagami.

Damien: Light was your typical anime protagonist, smart, attractive, compassionate and bored out of his mind. He viewed the world as rotten, full of bad people and criminals. Finding the Death Note was like a blessing to him.

Hannah: After inspecting the Death Note, Light learned that if Light pictures a person's face and writes their name down, they'd die. Usually of a heart attack in 40 seconds, but he can change the time and circumstances of a person's death.

Kaiya: So, Light wrote a name down, then another, then another, then like a crap-ton more until the police started to get suspicious. Confused, the police hired the super-detective L to find out who was causing these deaths.

Counter: And so, Light's journey began. To rid the world of criminals, and rebuild the world anew, he had to get rid of L and the police force. The public named him Kira, and Light and L entered a very intense mind game, each trying to outwit one another.

Damien: But to outsmart L, Light needed a particular set of skills, skills such as genius-level intelligence, impeccable acting skills and a book that can kill people with the flick of a pen.

Light Backgroudn

Hannah: Let's start with the Death Note. He can change the time and circumstances of a person's death, even killing them years in advance if he wants to, he can kill them via stroke, heart attacks, forcing them to commit suicide and even through a natural accident such as a car crash.'

Kaiya: It's unexplainable, unnatural and weird, but it does come with a few rules. On top of having to know a person's full name or face, if Light misspells a name four times, the Death Note will free them and Light will be unable to kill them!

Counter: And if Light wants to change the circumstances of a person's death, he can't make them do anything that's physically impossible, if he tries to, they'll simply die of a heart attack, and Light can only control people for 23 days.

Damien: But don't mistake the Death Note as the only reason people die. All humans, without exception, die and all humans are equal in death. It's something Light experienced firsthand.

Light Arsenal

Hannah: Light is almost unparalleled with his acting skills. By merely talking, Light was able to find out the name of an FBI agent, even after her intricate steps to hide it. He was able to convince almost everyone on the Police Force that he was innocent, and he was even able to trick another FBI agent into killing the other agents for him.

Kaiya: This dude is smart. He was somehow able to disguise his killing with the Death Note from 64 cameras in his room, constructed a complex system to destroy the Death Note if someone discovered it, and he earned full marks on every subject for a prestigious university entrance exam!

Counter: After managing to kill L-

Kaiya: Oh yeah, spoiler alert.

Counter: He could maintain a double life as Kira and the leader of a group trying to catch Kira for 5 years, he has come up with plans to -get this- erase his memory, confess to being Kira to be locked up in solitary, get a Shinigami to give the Death Note to someone who would use it for personal gain and prove his innocence with a fake rule in the Death Note.

Damien: Even when caught as Kira at the end of the series, Light was able to act calm and collected, even while desperate. In tense situations, Light can trick nearly anyone. While under surveillance, Light was able to calmly act as if he was doing homework, and while desperately trying to find out an FBI members' real name.

Hannah: But the Death Note isn't the only thing in Light's arsenal. He's pretty strong for a teenager, able to send L flying across a room in a single punch and tank similar attacks from L. He can match L in tennis, who claims to have won the British Junior Tennis Championship.

Kaiya: Even though he looks like he needs a sandwich, Light is super tough. He was able to pretty much shrug off a bullet to the hand, and even after being shot multiple times by the wimp Matsuda, Light was able to get up and run to another warehouse before collapsing.

Counter: He's able to shrug off being sent flying across a room and a kick to the head, and he can react to tennis balls, which fly at around 70-85 miles per hour. But let's not get ahead of ourselves, Light isn't perfect, and he prefers to use his intelligence rather than actually fighting.

Light Feats

Damien: Yeah...Light is arrogant to a fault and has an enormous God complex. Basically, Light believes that he is the best and is overconfident. It eventually resulted in exposing himself as Kira at the end of the series.

(Light: I win, Near.)

Hannah: And he's not the smartest person around. L and Near have been stated to be smarter than Light, and he can easily lash out or take drastic action if his status as 'God' is questioned, or if he's called evil.

Kaiya: But you can't have your chip and eat it too, Light was eventually discovered as Kira, and well, he died. But not before delivering some sick monologues.

("WHO ELSE COULD HAVE DONE IT, AND COME THIS FAR?! WOULD THEY HAVE KEPT GOING?! ...The only one...who can create a new world...is me.")

Intermission[]

Counter: Alright, the combatants are set. You guys ready to do this?

Damien: Yeah!

Kaiya: Count me in!

Hannah: Of course.

Counter: Then it's time...FOR A DEATH BATTLE!

Light vs Lelouch set

Poll[]

Death Battle[]

Light Yagami's bedroom, Saturday 11:39 P.M.

Eyes glued to the television, and hands glued to his pen, scribbling names across a page of a book, a black book that spelt despair and harm wherever it went. This was the Death Note and in Light's quest for justice, he had become very familiar with it. Sitting on Light's bed behind him was the Shinigami Ryuk. He was holding an apple, trying to decide what the best angle to bite at it would be. Shrugging, Ryuk shoved the whole apple in his mouth and bit down.

The news kept broadcasting names, and Light kept writing them down. His computer displayed rows of criminals, and Light wrote them down. He was smiling, the corners of his mouth curled up to display a nightmarish grin. His eyes were wide with anticipation, constantly sliding between the screen and his wristwatch, which was counting the seconds.

His pen was nearly destroying the paper Light was writing on from his energy, scribbling names down, remembering faces. But as Light turned to the television, the news changed. With a small noise of confusion, Light leaned closer to the television, as the news reporter began talking.

"Strange news tonight as masked terrorist Zero and his Black Knights have made a very bold move for their search of 'justice'."

"Justice...?" Light muttered, getting to his feet. He could feel his frustration rising, but decided against showing it. "He's nothing but a criminal, and he needs to die, and soon." He told himself, beginning to pace back and forth across his room, deep in thought.

I can't act as Kira. From what I can tell, Kira is the type of person Zero would want to be done away with. If I act as Kira, he'll kill me on sight. He pondered, eyes closed, sighing deeply. But it was then Light had an idea.

"Bring me an apple, Ryuk. This will be a long night." He told the Shinigami lying on his bed, who sat up once hearing his name.

Zero...your reign of terror ends here.

Lelouch vi Britannia's bedroom, Sunday, 2:28 A.M

Typing on his computer, Lelouch initially didn't notice the message over the news, and only realised once a green-haired girl tapped him on the shoulder and pointed it out to him. Bringing up the news on his laptop, Lelouch saw a blank, white screen with a strange symbol in the middle. This symbol was unmistakably the letter 'L'.

"Hello," A voice said. This voice had obviously gone through some sort of synthesizer, likely to hide the creator's identity. "I am L." Lelouch was...confused. Who was this L? Why did they have to make an announcement over the news? Opening a new tab, Lelouch searched up this 'L' and immediately, hundreds of articles about L, the supergenius who can solve any criminal case, with no failures yet.

"A detective? If this is about Zero, I may be in trouble." He commented lightly, leaning backwards slightly.

"I have made this announcement to bring a message right to Zero," Lelouch closed his eyes and nodded slightly, just what he thought. "Zero, I am going to catch you. Based on your actions so far, and the number of resources you own, you're likely a Britannian yourself, perhaps a member of royalty."

He's...He's good. Lelouch thought simply, his eyes wide and breath shaky. Watching on, L displayed coordinates of where he would be if they met. Scrambling, Lelouch grabbed a sheet of paper and scribbled the coordinates down, mere seconds before they disappeared. Inspecting the coordinates, Lelouch almost missed the rest of L's statement.

"Look for yourself at these coordinates. If anyone tries to reach this place, they will be arrested. We will meet there on Tuesday. Good luck."

Collapsing on his bed, Lelouch tucked the coordinates away quickly and rolled over, staring at the roof. The green-haired almost didn't notice, she was simply staring at the wall. Sighing, Lelouch pondered his next move. It was like a game of chess.

If I go to him, it might be a trap, and I'd be put in check. However, if L is as good as they say, I have to go there and take him out before he becomes a danger. He already figured out I'm a Britannian. He's already trapped me...or so he thinks. L doesn't know about the Geass, I've already won.

Some Random Warehouse, Monday, 12:13 P.M

Smirking to himself, Light scouted out the warehouse, making a mental note for every point of ambush, any blind spots. Inside, he was assessing his new combatant.

It will be hard to get Zero's name, considering he's using an alias. Due to being branded as a terrorist, Zero will likely have a mask, too. I'll have to do this correctly. I also have to make sure Zero can't exploit any ambush points. But as L, it wouldn't be hard to get the police force to set up cameras. He's playing right into my hand, I have control over this battlefield. I've already won.

Pulling out his phone, Light dialled his father, Chief Soichiro Yagami, and held the phone to his ear. From the other end, he heard his father speak.

"Light, we saw your message to Zero. That's a risky move, do you need any support?"

"Thanks, Dad, but that won't be necessary. I will need cameras, though. And lots of them." He heard his father give a small, confused grunt, before responding.

"No problem. You have this planned out, don't you?"

"Always." And with that, Light hung up the phone and placed it back in his pocket, surveying the areas once more. There was a shadowy region near the back, underneath scaffolding, perfect for hiding his face. After all, this Zero likely had a Death Note, he had to be careful.

I do need a lure just in case...someone who will draw Zero into the building. They'd then kill themselves, throwing Zero off and allowing me to get information easier."

Some Random Warehouse, Tuesday, 7:49 P.M

Walking through the street the coordinates specified, Zero and C.C. looked around for whatever 'yourself' meant. Slightly concerned, C.C. turned her head towards Zero and spoke.

"Lelouch, do you truly think this is wise? I mean, he had days to plan this."

"So did we," Lelouch responded, not turning his head towards her. "And don't forget, I have the Geass-" Turning his head to the left, Lelouch took in the sight of a dilapidated, dirty warehouse. Eyes narrowed, he spied it suspiciously, until he saw a red, shiny '0' painted on the wall next to the doors.

From behind the warehouse, Light watched the duo on the cameras through his laptop. He was leaning on the wall, with Ryuk flying high above the warehouse, looking down on Lelouch and C.C.

Two against two, but his teammate is visible. But he is cautious. He's not entering the building. Time for Plan B. Turning, Light smirked at the tied up, gagged figure of Suzaku Kururugi, staring up at him with fear. Idiot. He wasn't prepared for my intelligence, and he paid dearly for it. Eyes gleaming red, Light took out the Death Note, tucked into his jacket and looked at it, eyes landing on a set of instructions without a name.

' - Will stumble out of the front of the warehouse and catch Zero's attention, before walking back in. Then, with a Britannian Gun, they will shoot themselves in the head and kill themselves.'

"Farewell, Suzaku." Light muttered, Suzaku struggling to escape. Taking out a pen, Light wrote in a name to fit the circumstances: Suzaku Kururugi. The struggling soldier fell into a mindless state, pulling out a gun without thinking. Grinning, Light untied the bounds and took the gag os Suzaku's mouth, who stood up and walked into the warehouse, stumbling outside, right into Zero's view.

Lelouch's jaw dropped as he saw his friend stumble out of the building. He took a small step towards the soldier, who stumbled back inside quickly.

"Suzaku. Wait!" He called out, rushing inside without thinking. Staring at Lelouch with a blank expression, Suzaku held out the gun. "What're you...?" He trailed off. With a small giggle, Suzaku held the gun to his head and cocked the hammer, closing his eyes.

"SUZAKU!" Lelouch screamed, as his friend pulled the trigger, ending his own life with a bang and squirt of blood. Light fading from his eyes, Suzaku dropped to the ground, leaving Lelouch stunned, and shaking violently.

Just as planned. Light said to himself, setting the laptop down and clearing his throat. With a blank look on his face, Light walked into the warehouse, and jumped back with fake shock, letting out a yell.

Distraught, Lelouch looked up at the figure and glared at it, his teeth bared from inside the mask.

"You bastard!" He cried. Making sure to shield his face in the darkness, Light kept up the shocked persona, breathing shakily to match.

"I-I am L. I knew you were a terrorist, but I never expected you to go this far..." He trailed off, smirking to himself. Lelouch was still staring at the silhouette, but he had to keep his cool, too. This guy killed Suzaku, and Lelouch would not rest until he had his justice! Channelling his anger into determination, Zero stared at Kira, as both of them took in each other's appearance.

Zero looks frail...I could likely best him in a fistfight, but he has a gun. His hand's gravitating towards it. He also seems to have...a retractable plate around his left eye. His eye is important, but he can obviously see quite easily. I have to avoid looking him in the eye.

Likewise, Lelouch was also making conclusions on his opponent. He's better than I thought. I can't beat him in hand-to-hand, so I can't approach him, and he probably has some kind of precaution for a gun, being a detective and all. He's shielding his eyes and face from view, so I won't know when to use the Geass...I have to be careful here.

Zero... Light thought.

L... This was from Lelouch.

I am... Light was glaring at his opponent, even if he couldn't see it.

I will have my... Lelouch, anger and grief sloshing around in his stomach, clenched his fists together.

Justice! the other didn't know it, but they both thought the same thing.

FIGHT!

The two combatants stared at each other, eyes narrow and a small grimace on their face. Lelouch was the first to make a move, stepping closer to Light and pointing towards him.

"You want to frame this on me. Look at his hand," Lelouch gestured to Suzaku's corpse, a pang of sadness in his stomach. "It's obvious that he committed suicide. It's incredibly unlikely that if I had shot him, that it would enter his temple." Light anticipated this response, he had a hand on his chin, in fake thought.

"But look at his gun. It's a Britannian-made gun, and if my deduction was correct you are also a Britannian, no? And this Suzaku Kururugi, a knight, wasn't he? He was also unlikely to commit suicide. It's much more likely that someone wanted to make it look like a suicide." He commented calmly, secretly smirking at his foe. Lelouch was glaring at him through his mask, hands clenched underneath his cloak.

He's one step ahead...how does he know I'm Britannian? Lelouch pondered. Light smiled, Lelouch was speechless, and the cameras were capturing all of it. He had already won, hiding a small giggle.

"Your silence...does this prove that you are Britannian?" Light asked with a smile. Grimacing, Lelouch steadied himself.

"Yes, it does. But as a member of the police force, you would have a gun, it's just common sense. Suspicious, is it not?" Hiding a glare, Light merely let out a small breath, his eyes closed.

"Guns are illegal in Japan." Was all Light responded with, smiling. Is it safe to mention Kira? Maybe I could frame him as Kira. It's possible. He's already Zero, after all. Clearing his throat, Light continued.

"Zero...do you know who Kira is? Kira can kill anyone he wants to, without being near them. He can even control the circumstances of their death." His eyes flicked over to C.C., who was spying a camera in the corner of the room, from behind him, Ryuk chuckled, crossing his arms.

"Well, Light. That girl's a problem, isn't she?" He commented simply. Light had to secretly agree, C.C. could ruin everything. She needed to be dealt with, and quickly. With a grunt, he pointed towards her quickly.

"You. What is your name?" C.C. looked at him calmly, almost bored. Lelouch also looked over to her, deep in thought.

Why does L need her name? Unless he has to rely on knowing her name, but why now? If he was merely going to arrest her, he could wait. So why...

"C.C." She told Light simply. In the darkness, Light's eyes narrowed, frustration burying deep in his stomach. That couldn't be her real name...but still, he had 4 tried, he could afford to get this one wrong. He was lucky the Death Note was black, almost invisible to even himself as he pulled it out of his jacket and opened it, grabbing his pen and writing a name down quickly.

"C.C...got it." He said simply, closing the Death Note and sliding it back in his jacket. He pulled up his arm with a wristwatch wrapped around it. 40 seconds... He kept count in his head, looking back up to Lelouch, who narrowed his eyes.

"I do not know about Kira," He said calmly. "And if you're insinuating that I am Kira, look at sense. Why would I come back into the warehouse if I killed him?"

"To check if he was actually dead." Light replied quickly, glancing at his watch again. 35 seconds... He told himself, narrowing Lelouch's eyes even more.

Damn, it's getting dangerous. I need to use my Geass on him, and soon...He can already arrest me under suspicion, but he's playing it smart...I can't see where he's looking! I need a way to get his attention...but how...?

"And why would I do that? If I was truly Kira, I would be sure of my abilities, meaning there'd be no need to check." Light almost sighed, Lelouch was playing this smart, too...His eyes flicked to the right, glancing at the rickety support beam holding up part of the roof. Mind going into overdrive, Light came up with many strategies, as did Lelouch.

If I kick hard enough, I could bring down the roof as a distraction and pull off his mask, but that's risky. It might take more than one kick, which gives Zero lots of opportunities to shoot at me. Shoot... Were the thoughts running through Light's brain, as he contemplated his choices.

I could shoot at the support beam and bring the roof down on top of L, but that would reveal that I have a gun, and I have to be careful in case there are cameras. There must be, there's no way L would walk into a warehouse carelessly like this. It will also give him ample time to move out of the way...rendering it useless. Lelouch was thinking, glaring at the mysterious figure across from him. In the darkness, Light smiled evilly, he had finally found something to latch onto, to attack Zero for.

"If you're thinking about using your gun, I highly discourage it." Light said simply, crossing his arms. Glancing down at his watch, Light noted 20 seconds... in his head. From behind him, Ryuk let out a breathy laugh that only Light could hear. That probably means that C.C. was merely an alias, but I assumed as much.

Inside Zero's helmet, Lelouch's eyes were wide. How could he tell that he had a gun? He couldn't shoot it, or the police would be on him faster than light itself. Keeping his voice steady, Lelouch responded with a look of pure venom etched on his face.

"What makes you assume I have a gun, L?" He asked inquisitively, adding a hint of anger to the tone of his voice. Light merely smiled, something Lelouch couldn't see.

"A number of things, to be honest. The Britannian gun on the floor, the small lump on your side, and when we first met, your hand hovered over something, ready to attack at a moment's notice."

He's really good, but I'm better! He told himself, going on the attack. "What does the Britannian gun prove other than Suzaku Kururugi had one? You're basing me having a gun on nothing but an assumption! I have half a mind to claim that you're not really L, you're making assumptions, but you're doing no detective work! You're nothing but a criminal, aren't you? An evil impostor."

Light saw red. Evil, was he? Pure loathing spelled out across his body, he pointed towards Lelouch and responded, fighting his hardest to keep his voice steady, his hands clenched into fists.

"Evil, am I? May I remind you who Zero is? Nothing but a terrorist. Now, tell me your name, or suffer worse than just police questioning." He threatened quickly. Lelouch was emotionally vulnerable. He had an angry outburst and acted purely on emotion. Now was the time to strike. Glancing at his watch, light counted down the seconds. 10...9...8...7...6...5

I haven't used the Geass yet, so I should be safe for now...But I need to see his gaze. Sighing, Lelouch complied. "Fine. My name...is Lelouch Lamperouge." He informed Light simply, crossing his arms. His hand was inching towards his gun...it was urgent now...he needed to act!

Breathing shakily, Light had to hide a laugh. I got the name! Now, all I need is the face... The seconds counted down until 40 passed, bur C.C. didn't react. An alias. I suspected as much.

"It's quite unlucky..." Lelouch began, drawing Light's attention. "That you didn't hide the cameras better." And with that, Lelouch drew his pistol, firing at two of the cameras in the corner of the room. the bullets crashed into them, destroying them. Shocked, Light took a step back. Every camera he deployed...they were gone in the pull of a trigger. His shocked expression turned to anger, but Lelouch wasn't done. With two more shots, the factory's windows shattered, and moonlight flooded into the room.

The light flooded Light's face, as he stared at Lelouch. Now! His brain yelled, as the plate in front of his left eye retracted, and the Geass sigil appeared in his eye.

"I, Lelouch vi Britannia-!" He began, but he didn't get far. Light rushed forwards and buried a fist into Lelouch's stomach, knocking him to the floor. Hiding a grin, Light looked down at Lelouch, his eyes narrowed slightly.

"So, Lelouch vi Britannia, is it? What happened to Lamperouge? A mere alias, slip of the tongue maybe?" Laughing behind him, Ryuk clapped his bony, long hands together, sitting upon a crate, watching with rapt attention. Grimacing, Lelouch looked up at Light, desperately wishing he could use the Geass, but Light was deliberately avoiding his gaze.

Rushing to his side and grabbing his arm, C.C. helped Lelouch regain his footing and stand back up. A flash of anger showed in Light's face, but he hid it quickly, arms crossed, a shadow of rage stirring behind his eyes.

"Something's bothering me, Lelouch. Concerning your mask, I must ask...why is there a retractable plate in front of your left eye? It's obvious that you can see out of it without the plate down, so why have the plate? Why do you need to look at someone with your own eyes?" He asked, still avoiding his gaze. Glaring at Light, Lelouch had to think this answer over...

He's got me. I'm in Check. I can't reveal the Geass, that's my only advantage here, but he's figured something's up, he's avoiding my eyes. My gun has one last bullet, but I can't use it, it's not guaranteed to be fatal. Letting out a minuscule sigh that only he could hear, Lelouch decided that his only option was to avoid the question.

"But it's polite to keep eye contact."

"Which you could do with the mask anyway, right? And since you've avoided my question, I assume I've hit the nail on the head?" Light asked him, desperately hiding the excited quiver in his voice. Should I now reveal that I'm Kira? He doesn't know that I also need a face to kill, does he? There are no cameras anymore...I should be safe.

With a sudden jerk of his arm, Light opened his jacket and reached into the pocket. In spite of himself, Lelouch watched with mild interest, C.C. looking over his shoulder. With a flourish, Light pulled out the Death Note and a pen, holding it to the now open notebook. Noticing Lelouch's stare, Light attacked.

"Oh, this? It's a Death Note. I should mention that...I am Kira," From inside the mask, Lelouch's eyes were wide open, every cell on his face was shocked beyond belief, frozen. "And unless you take off that mask, I am going to kill you where you stand!"

"So, I was right...you are evil."

"No more than you, Zero! I have become justice, the only hope for mankind...Kira has become the law in the world we now live...I am creating a new world, because this one is rotten, filled to the brim with rotten people! I'm making a world where people can live in harmony, where they're safe! I know you understand, Zero, so take off the damn mask!"

Argh! I'm in check. I either give up my life or Zero's. I need his attention, but how...He won't look me in the eye- An idea pooped to life in his head out of nowhere, so fast that Lelouch could both hardly believe it would work and hardly believe that he hadn't thought of it before. The only way to win...Is to comply with Kira's demands. And with that, he placed his hands on the side of his mask.

Here we go! Hold in your laugh... Light told himself, struggling to keep his breaths even. With one swift movement, Lelouch pulled off his mask and threw it onto the ground behind him. The sigil appeared in his eyes, as Light looked up at him, getting a good view of his face. I've won...

"I, Lelouch vi Britannia command you!" Lelouch yelled, staring into Light's eyes before he realised his mistake. But it was too late, Light's mind was empty.

"Die." With a flourish of his own, Lelouch pulled out his gun and spun it around so that the handle faced Light. His eyes, instead of being red, had a red shadow on the edge of his eyes. Kill himself! His blood turned cold.

No! Light thought, as he witnessed his hands reaching for the gun. I am a God! Sh-Shoot them! Light's hand wrapped around the handle...and his finger squeezed the trigger.

BANG!

The bullet exploded out of the pistol, and landed with a wet thunk, into Lelouch's side. Screaming, Lelouch stumbled backwards, slipping on the floor and landing on his back, hard. Light was standing over him with an eerie grin on his face, his head held high but his eyes tracking Lelouch.

"What's wrong, Zero? Did you lose?" And as he started writing in the Death Note, he started laughing, with the laugh that bounced around walls, echoed and amplified, something that made your hairs stand on end. Light was scribbling as fast as his hands would allow.

'Lelouch v' Light kept scribbling. 'Lelouch vi Brit' He continued scribbling, laughs still escaping his mouth and flying into the warehouse walls. 'Lelouch vi Britann'

How did he resist the Geass...? Did I not do it right?! It's-It's over! But it was when Light had written 'Lelouch vi Britanni' that something happened. His smile evaporated within a flash, and his eyes widened. Flinching, Lelouch stopped, opening one eye slowly. Light was frozen, his face frozen in the mild expression of fear, his breathing ragged and quick.

"Farewell, Lelouch." Light commented simply, finishing a name...his own. Underneath Lelouch's incomplete name, he wrote his own before he could realise what he did. As the red haze from his eyes disappeared, Light dropped the Death Note, falling to his knees quickly. His mind was clear, as he stared down at what he had just done, his pen slipping out of his hands and falling to the ground with a clatter.

Scrambling backwards, the terrified Light scrawled away from the bloody Lelouch and his notebook, looking up towards Ryuk.

"Ryuk! Help me! Erase it! That shouldn't count! I am the God of the new world! Please, Ryuk! I don't wanna die!"

"You can't erase it. Death is irreversible, and all humans are equal in death," Scooping up the Death Note, Ryuk added, "You won't need this anymore." and flew away, leaving Light alone...abandoned...dying. He could almost hear the seconds ticking down, but he didn't dare look at his watch.

C.C. was helping Lelouch to his feet, the Zero mask in hand. The wound in his side still leaking blood, Lelouch put the mask back on and walked out of the warehouse slowly, leaving Light completely alone.

"Misa! Takada! Where are you?! HELP ME!" He cried, desperately trying to crawl away. As much as he didn't want to, he glanced at his watch. 20 seconds. Screaming, Light writhed on the floor, asking for anyone, Misa, Mikami, anyone who sided with him. 10 seconds...

"I don't wanna die...I don't wanna die...I don't wanna die..." He repeated the saying over and over, as the seconds counted down...5...4...3...2...1...0

"I don't wanna-" As his heart gave out, so did Light's voice, trailing away into nothing as he let out one final sigh, his heart still, his breathing nonexistent. As the light faded from his eyes, a faint shadow of a detective loomed over him, casting a blue glow over his face.

K.O!

Conclusion[]

Kaiya: ...Jeez. That was intense.

Counter: This was a very unique match-up. Because neither fighter relied on physicality, instead using their brains, their physical abilities really didn't matter in the long run. But let's go over them anyway.

Damien: Sounds good to me! In the fight between Light and L, Light was able to fling L across the room with a single punch and was able to tank kicks that also sent him across the room, so it's safe to say that Light is pretty strong...and much stronger than Lelouch, who's greatest strength feat is holding up Shirley one time.

Hannah: And since Light is constantly an honour student who gets full marks in everything, it's safe to assume he does for P.E, too, while Lelouch skips his remedial P.E. classes.

Kaiya: And Light was able to play tennis and beat a Junior Champion, against tennis balls flying at about 80 kilometres an hour, while Lelouch is constantly outpaced by his classmates and even people in dresses, so Light pretty much sweeps the floor with Lelouch if it came to physicality, he would definitely win an arm-wrestling contest. That's not even mentioning that Light was able to run after being riddled with bullets, something Lelouch has never had to match.

Counter: But physicality didn't matter at all. What mattered was their brains and their weapons. It's quite safe to call them pretty much even when it came to intelligence as well. While Lelouch was able to trick mind-readers, predict their answers and even beat them at their own game, Light was able to keep up a double-life as murderer and detective and even trick supergenius L.

Damien: They are both masterful actors, although Light does have the edge in acting, as he had to do it for 6 years straight while masquerading as L, Lelouch had an edge in planning his next move and battle strategies, as that's what he has to do for the entire series, and he's been able to isolate and beat a far superior army with a simple strategy, win a game of chess in just 8 minutes and lead the Black Knights, a terrorist group.

Hannah: So it is safe to say that both were almost dead even when it came to smarts, so again, it was a non-factor. The only real factors in this battle were the titles of each anime: The Death Note and the Geass. On paper, the Death Note did seem to be better.

Kaiya: Yeah, that thing could cause any number of things just to kill people and could control anyone into doing as many things as he wanted. However, it also had the most restrictions, which brought it down. Unlike the Geass, Light had to know someone's name or face, while Lelouch didn't, and since Lelouch is as smart as Light, it'd be pretty freakin' tough for Light to get his name in the first place!

Counter: Both could kill, but Light needed to know two very specific things in order to kill, while Lelouch only needed to look Light in the eye, a difficult task if Light figured out that the eye was important but much easier than figuring out someone's name and face.

Damien: But Light's problem is, the second he gets Lelouch's face, he loses. Light needs to look at a person's face and remember it, which puts him at a high risk of being affected by the Geass, meaning that Light really couldn't win this.

Hannah: And C.C. was much more helpful to Lelouch than Ryuk was to Light. As stated numerous times in Death Note, Ryuk is not on Light's side and ended up killing him, only sticking around because Light was interesting. However, C.C. actively helped Lelouch and was on his side, even pretending to be Zero just to help him escape.

Counter: And if it came down to it, nothing's stopping Lelouch from just shooting Light and ending it quickly. While Light may have looked a lot better on paper, Lelouch had just the right tools to take him down.

Kaiya: Light may have put his heart in this battle, but 'eye' don't think it was enough.

Counter: The winner is Lelouch vi Britannia.

Lelouch winner

Light Yagami[]

Wiz: On the surface, Light Yagami comes across as a normal, though highly intelligent high school student.

Boomstick: Even if he does have an unusual name. I mean, seriously, who names their kid Light?

Wiz: Technically, Boomstick, nearly all names have meaning and translate to certain words or phrases. Light’s name is just a little more literal and on the nose.

Boomstick: Well, we all know what my name means, and I couldn’t have picked a better one.

  • Background
    • Full name: Light Yagami
    • Height: 5’10
    • Weight: 119 lbs.
    • Born: February 28, 1986
    • Age: 17 (later 23)
    • Aliases: Kira, the Second L
    • Occupation: Student, later head of the Special Task Force
    • Unfeeling sociopath with a god complex
    • Delusional noble extremist
    • Self-proclaimed god of the new world
    • Wielder of Ryuk’s Death Note
    • Son of NPA Chief Soichiro Yagami
    • Older brother of Sayu
    • Adversary of L, Near, and Mello

Wiz: Untraditional names aside, Light lived his life like pretty much every other teenage boy his age. He went to school, dated girls, participated in sports, spent time with his family. Nothing really out of the ordinary.

Boomstick: There was just one problem, he was pretty much bored with his life. I mean, why wouldn’t he be? He’s smart, athletic, attractive, admired, has a loving family, all the girls want him, and he had a promising future ahead of him. Who wouldn’t find all that boring?

Wiz: It wasn’t just that Light found his life to be boring. As the son a police officer, who is also the chief of the National Police Agency, Light heard a lot about all the criminal activity going on in the world other than just what the news reported on. Utterly disgusted by all the crime and injustice out there, Light grew to despise the state of the world more and more, and even considered it to be rotting and in need of a major change.

Boomstick: Yeah, but he was just a powerless high school student, so what could he really do to change anything? Carry around a picket sign and protest about all the things he didn’t like about the world? Angrily Tweet about everything that pissed him off? Pfft, sure, that’ll do a lot.

Wiz: But then one day, all that changed when Light stumbled across the Death Note.

Boomstick: And that’s when life got a lot more interesting for him. Turns out, the Death Note is this magic notebook that belongs to this guy, Ryuk. If you can’t tell by his freaky appearance, he’s a Shinigami. That’s basically a death god, kind of like a grim reaper of sorts. And his job is to, what do you think? Go around killing people.

Wiz: As a Shinigami, Ryuk is basically immortal, and will only die if he directly saves a life, or if his own lifespan runs out. This is the purpose of the Death Note. It allows the Shinigami who owns it to constantly increase their lifespan by more or less stealing the remaining time left alive that other people have by killing them.

Boomstick: He’s not the only one of his kind either. There’s actually an entire race of these guys running around. But the only way to be able to see any of them is to touch their own personal Death Note. And with Ryuk’s now being in Light’s possession, that meant that he could now see, hear, and interact with him. Which was actually his plan.

Wiz: To make a long story short, Ryuk was bored and decided to make things a little more interesting by seeing what a human would do if they came across his Death Note. So he wrote the instructions of how to use it on the cover and dropped it for someone to find. And that person just happened to be Light.

Boomstick: Which definitely made things a lot more interesting for both of them. Strap yourselves in, folks, because things are about to get cr-a-zy. Turns out that anyone who has their name written in the Death Note will die 40 seconds later of a heart attack.

Wiz: Basically, yes, but it’s a little more detailed than that. But to avoid killing people who have the same name, the writer must also picture the person’s face in their mind. Once they have these two things, a person’s face and their first and last name, the wielder of the Death Note has the power to kill anyone, anywhere in the world. And with Light now in possession of it, he could now do just that.

Boomstick: But as it turns out, Light was a total sociopath, he just needed something to kick off his wicked nature. I mean, sure, I guess in a way you could argue that he had good intentions, but, yeah, he’s a total sociopath with a complete lack of conscience and no morality.

Wiz: As a sociopath, Light is incapable of feeling compassion or empathy for anyone other than himself. And thus he’s willing and able to go to any lengths and extremities to get what he wants without feeling any guilt or remorse. And with him being so disgusted with all the crime in the world, he decided that he would, shall we say, “clean it up” by writing the names of all the world’s criminals in the Death Note. And while he primarily targeted the worst kinds of criminals first, such as murderers, rapists, drug dealers, and such, anyone who committed any crime of any sort was someone who he believed needed to be wiped out in order for him to achieve his idea of a perfect, utopian world.

Boomstick: Not just criminals either, but anyone he had a problem with. Light makes it his goal to wipe out anyone he considers bad and lazy until only those who believe in his cause remain. Or at least those who are too afraid to oppose him.

Wiz: The more Light used the Death Note, the more drunk on its power he became, and he deluded himself more and more into believing that he was this great savior that was destined to rule over everything and eliminate anyone who didn’t meet the requirements of his ideal world. He really is the worst possible person to have picked it up, but Light convinced himself that it was some kind of destiny.

Boomstick: Which was totally not the case. Ryuk even told him as much. He just dropped the Death Note at random to see what the person who picked it up would do, and by chance that person just happened to be Light. But the guy just deluded himself into thinking that this was what he was meant to do and that he was the symbol of justice who was the only one that could purify the world by wiping out anyone who didn’t meet his approval. Basically, he had a psychotic, cult leader, nutjob mentality. Kind of like my college days.

Wiz: You went to college?

Boomstick: Sure did… for about a week, then I got kicked out for bad behavior… Hehe, that was a fun week.

Wiz: Light’s endgame was essentially an absolute, tyrannical dictatorship where no one would even think to defy or go against him. With this goal in mind, Light decided that he would make himself the god of his new world order, and would go on to kill all those who were criminals, lazy, or anyone who opposed him until there were only those that he deemed to be good, hardworking people who worshipped him as a god.

Boomstick: Like I said, total cult leader psycho. But, hey, you can’t argue with the results. With the more people he killed, the more he got noticed. And with the number of criminals dropping dead, there was a massive decrease in crime. So of course this was going to gain him supporters from people who saw what he was doing as a good thing.

Wiz: While unorthodox and clearly in the wrong, there was no doubt that criminal activity saw a drastic drop. This did indeed cause a rise in Light’s supporters since people no longer feared being attacked or robbed or anything. Of course, since no one actually knew who was causing these killings, only that someone was doing them, this caused people to start referring to the one responsible as Kira, which basically means Killer.

    • Numerous Kira supporters/worshippers

Boomstick: And I tell you, these so-called “good people” who support him weren’t that good, and were actually pretty screwed up. They actually encouraged him to keep killing more and more people, and even began posting the names and pictures of people they wanted him to kill. Yeah, it was pretty messed up. Yet every day, more and more people began to view Light as justice itself.

Wiz: Essentially what it came down to was that there were people who were grateful towards Light for making the world a safer place, but for everyone else, they either thought that simply killing anyone who was a criminal was wrong, or they lived in constant fear that there was someone out there who could and would kill anyone at any time. Eventually though, even those who disagreed or opposed him became too afraid to speak out against him since Light would kill anyone who challenged him, even if they were good, kind people, as he would view their deaths as acceptable sacrifices for his new world order. Not even the police force was safe since they were trying to catch him or stop all the murders.

Boomstick: It’s not like they could. Light could literally kill someone without leaving a shred of evidence behind. And since he had no motive other than the fact that his victims were criminals or those who spoke against Kira, there was nothing personally connecting him to any of the murders.

Wiz: Even when suspicion did fall onto him, Light was able to deflect these suspicions through the use of the Death Note’s other abilities. While a heart attack was the default method of killing a person, the writer could actually include instructions and details of a person’s death, even allowing him to take control of people.

Boomstick: As long as he didn’t give anyone an impossible task, like, say, write that someone from Japan would fly to New York and jump off the Empire State Building in 10 minutes. Obviously, it would be impossible to get from Japan to New York in 10 minutes, so instead the person would just die of a heart attack.

Wiz: He can, however, give instructions on how they will die or control their actions, like having them write out a message, or even have a person kill themselves, such as the way he had Kiyomi Takada set herself on fire, or when he had Naomi Misora kill herself in a way so her body would never be found. It’s even possible to set up a series of events to control the outcome and method of a death.

Boomstick: Let’s say he wrote that a person would die walking into a street and getting hit by a bus, even if there’s no bus routes on that particular street. Well, as long as no one dies whose name wasn’t written down, events would be set into motion that would make a bus take a different route in order to fulfill the Death Note’s instructions, even if this means the Death Note would take over the bus driver’s mind in order to meet the instructions.

Wiz: Even anything written down on a torn-out piece of the Death Note is equally as effective. By doing this, Light has been able to make kills even without using the actual Death Note, sometimes even resorting to pricking his finger and writing with his own blood on torn pieces.

Boomstick: Which kind of makes you wonder, just how many pages does a Death Note have? Like, what happens when it runs out of pages? Do new pages appear? Do the oldest names fade away to leave a clean page? Or does it just run out of pages and become useless?

Wiz: Well, considering that the Death Note is not something of the living world, no, a Death Note will actually never run out of pages, no matter how many names are written in it. It’s a rather mysterious phenomenon, but it basically allows the user to never stop killing.

Boomstick: And if you thought all that alone was bad enough, you’d be wrong. The holder of the Death Note also allows them to make a deal with its owner to gain the Shinigami Eyes. Not literally gaining their eyes, just a power they have.

Wiz: In order to allow a Shinigami to properly use a Death Note, all Shinigami have the ability to see a person’s name and lifespan floating over their head. In exchange for half his lifespan, Ryuk could have granted Light this ability as well, which would make him an even more dangerous and effective killer.

Boomstick: Yeah, but Light wasn’t willing to half his life for that, and Ryuk wasn’t doing him any favors. He may help out Light from time to time if he asked, but Ryuk was mostly just a spectator who didn’t really get involved. Well, not unless you bribe him with a bunch of apples.

Wiz: However, this didn’t stop Light from recruiting others to his cause and having them make the deal for the Shinigami Eyes in his place, and then having them do his bidding. Such people have included Misa Amane, Teru Mikami, and others, all who have acted in Light’s stead as Kira when he couldn’t, or in order to take suspicion off of him.

Boomstick: He really needed it too when the when the police brought in the world’s most brilliant detective, L. No, seriously, that’s the alias he goes by.

Wiz: Arguably even smarter than Light with outstanding deductive reasoning, hyperawareness, and spot-on instincts, L proved to be a truly formidable opponent to Light, and for a good portion of the series, the two of them would try to outwit each other.

Boomstick: Sherlock Holmes ain’t got nothing on this guy. And let me tell you, seeing these two try to get the better of each other really puts you on the edge of your seat. L even pretty much figured out that Light was Kira, he just couldn’t prove it. The whole thing basically becomes a race to see whether L can prove that Light is Kira or if Light can figure out L’s real name.

  • Feats
    • Killed 124,925 people
    • Outwitted L
    • Orchestrated events to give himself amnesia and then regain his memories
    • Gained a worldwide massive cult following
    • Forced countries and world governments to back down
    • Remained hidden from the police for 6 years
    • Took L’s place as the head of the Special Task Force
    • Made life “not boring” for Ryuk
    • Manipulated Rem into committing suicide and killing L

Wiz: Light only manages to stay one step ahead of L by using the supernatural methods available to him through the use of the Death Note, his allies, and Shinigami’s abilities. And while you may consider this “cheating” in this game he and L were essentially playing, Light does it brilliantly.

Boomstick: He even willingly gives himself and his so-called girlfriend, Misa, amnesia in order to make himself look innocent.

Wiz: See, when a person relinquishes ownership of the Death Note completely, relinquishes it, not just loses it or lends it to someone, they lose all their memories about it and anything involving it. When Light found himself in L’s custody under suspicion of being Kira, he orchestrates events to have Ryuk transfer ownership of the Death Note to someone else, causing him and, through other plans, Misa to forget all about it, knowing that his amnesiac self would be recruited and help L to track down whoever it was Ryuk gave the Death Note to, allowing him and Misa to regain their memories once they caught the person and they touched the Death Note again, and then kill the person everyone now believed to be Kira in order to regain ownership of the Death Note, now with suspicion no longer being on himself or Misa.

Boomstick: Man, talk about self-confidence. Imagine knowing that after you forget something that your amnesiac self will be able to do what’s necessary in order for you to regain your memories. Either way, L still wasn’t completely convinced, and suspected that the guy they caught was just an ally of the real Kira and was being used by him, and he still suspected Light to an extent. So he set up a test that would have exposed Misa, and maybe even Light, as being the real Kira.

Wiz: This, however, was all a part of Light’s plan, as it allowed him to manipulate events to force another Shinigami into sacrificing itself by writing down L’s real name, along with that of his closest ally, in order to save Misa. And the last thing L saw as he lay dying from a heart attack was Light grinning down at him, letting him know that he was indeed Kira.

Boomstick: Yeah, Light really took some sick delight in killing people, especially when it involved besting them. And to add insult to injury, Light took up his mantle as the new L, leading the investigation of the Special Task Force to find Kira from that moment on. Sufficient to say, they didn’t make much progress after that.

Wiz: Over the next 6 years, Light would go on to kill tens of thousands of people. In fact, according to Ryuk, Light ends up killing 124,925 people, and that’s not even counting those his allies killed in his stead. His followers would grow in number, either because they believed in his cause or because they feared him. Whole governments, even the entire United States, openly declared that they would no longer oppose Kira.

Boomstick: Well, no kidding. Literally no one was safe from him. Not his supporters, not his allies, not even his own family. If it would advance his goals or met his disapproval, Light would just kill them. Hell, the guy used and manipulated his own sister and father, and even sacrificed his dad without so much as batting an eye and showing no remorse. No genuine remorse anyway, he still needed to put on an act for the others.

Wiz: With news propaganda and even child grooming and indoctrination beginning, Light indeed began to be worshipped as a god, even gaining the Church of Kira, and was well on his way to taking over the world.

Boomstick: There was just one little problem though. Well, two really. Light thought that with L gone that there would be no one who could really challenge him, but he wasn’t counting on L having two apprentices to take up his mantle. Say hello to Mello and Near.

Wiz: While Mello would prove to be more of a nuisance to Light than a challenge, it would be because of him that after Near figured out that Light was Kira that he would be able to set a trap to expose him.

Boomstick: I tell you, Wiz, that ending really gets your heart racing of whether Light or Near would come out on top. But ultimately, it was Near who ended up outsmarting him.

Wiz: While aware that Near was investigating him and the current person he had entrusted with the Death Note, Light was able to figure out that Near had set a trap for him, and so set a trap for Near instead.

Boomstick: But as it turns out, Near was one step ahead of him. Turns out that he set a trap so that Light would set a trap so he could set another trap to totally bust Light’s ass as Kira.

Wiz: Upon being exposed and realizing that he was beaten, Light suffered a complete mental breakdown and reveals himself for the psychotic megalomaniac that he was. In a desperate attempt to write down Near’s name on a piece of the Death Note, he was shot full of bullets, and then had Ryuk himself write his own name down, and Light experienced the same death that he had sentenced tens of thousands of others to.

Boomstick: And so ended the reign of Kira. But even after Light’s death, he still had followers who continued to worship him.

Wiz: When it came down to it though, Light was just a sociopathic mass murderer with a god complex. Even if you do agree that Light was, in a way, righteous by trying to eliminate criminals to make the world a better place, there’s no doubt that his power-hungry agenda, psychotic delusions, and the merciless way he killed anyone who opposed him, even good people, not to mention the sheer pleasure he took out of it, all shows how Light had allowed himself to become the very evil he thought he was trying to get rid of.

Boomstick: In the words of Near, he was nothing more than a crazy serial killer who had mistaken himself for a god, and the Death Note was the most dangerous weapon in history that he just happened to get his hands on.

Wiz: A more than a fair description. But one thing is certain, the events of Light’s time as Kira would go on to affect the world for many years to come.

Lelouch vi Britannia[]

Wiz: In an alternate version of Earth, there is the Holy Britannian Empire, the world’s dominant military superpower that ruled over one-third of the world. Lorded over by the ruthless Emperor Charles zi Britannia, they set out to conquer Japan.

Boomstick: And they did it too. Then they renamed it Area 11, reduced all its people to become borderline slaves, and started calling them Number Elevens instead of Japanese. That is messed up.

Wiz: Charles had numerous children, and the seventeenth in line for the throne was none other than the eleventh prince, Lelouch vi Britannia.

  • Background
    • Full name: Lelouch vi Britannia
    • Height: 5’10
    • Weight: 162 lbs.
    • Born: December 5, 1999
    • Age: 17 (later 18)
    • Aliases: Zero, Lelouch Lamperouge
    • Occupation: Student, later 99th emperor of Britannia
    • Eleventh prince of Britannia
    • Ashford Academy Student Council Vice President
    • Leader of the Resistance Cell
    • Leader and founder of the Black Knights
    • Possesses the power of Geass
    • Has a contract with C.C.
    • Older brother of Nunnally
    • Best friend/archenemy of Suzaku
    • Likes playing chess

Boomstick: Don’t hold that against him though, because Lelouch was nothing like his old man. That’s not much of a high bar though, that guy was a real piece of work.

Wiz: When Lelouch was only 10 years old, there was an assassination attempt that left his sister, Nunnally, crippled and blind from trauma and injury, and resulted in his mother’s death. With his father blaming Lelouch for leaving his mother and sister defenseless, he stripped Lelouch of his title and ranking and then banished him to Japan, or Area 11 as it was now called, where he went by the name Lelouch Lamperouge, and spent the next seven years as a relatively ordinary student.

Boomstick: This naturally caused him to develop some major daddy issues, causing him to basically turn against the guy and make him want to destroy everything his dad cared about and bring Britannia to ruin. But as a now disowned nobody, he couldn’t really do much.

Wiz: This all changed the day Lelouch found himself in a life-or-death situation and met C.C., a mysterious immortal girl who was basically considered a witch. Without fully understanding what he was getting into, he formed a contract with her in order to save his life, and was granted the power of Geass.

Boomstick: What’s Geass you ask? Heck if I know. It’s some supernatural power that’s different for everyone who gets it. Basically, anyone who C.C. makes a contract with is granted their own version of it, and they all do different things for different people.

Wiz: Examples of different Geass have included altering people’s memories, controlling a person’s perception of time, making others fall in love with you, and more.

Boomstick: So basically it’s like X-Men mutant powers.

Wiz: Well, not exactly, but more or less. In Lelouch’s case, the Geass ability he was gifted with was called the Power of Absolute Obedience. This kind of Geass is known as the Power of the King, and as its name suggests, it allows Lelouch to issue a command to anyone he makes eye contact with and forces them to carry out the command, no matter what it is. With this new power, Lelouch set out to take his revenge on his father, restore Area 11 back to the nation of Japan, and make the world a safer, happier place for his sister.

Boomstick: So he did the only natural thing. He became the leader of a terrorist group whose goal was to restore Japan to what it once was.

Wiz: Let’s not use such extreme terminology. It was a resistant group of freedom fighters, not terrorists. The Britannians simply classified them as terrorists. Although, granted, some members did resort to terrorist activity, but generally they were just rebels against the Britannian Empire that was oppressing them.

Boomstick: But with Lelouch being the prince, even the disowned, banished prince, wasn’t exactly going to go over well. So he dressed up in some fancy costume and started going by the name Zero in order to hide his identity and protect his sister.

Wiz: Over the next year, Leouch would become the leader of the rebellion and help them rise up against the Britannian Empire, fighting against their military of mechas and soldiers while gaining allies along the way and encouraging the people to rise up against their oppressors in order to create a peaceful nation for the Japanese and for his sister, all while keeping his identity a secret and living a double-life.

Boomstick: And trust me, that wasn’t easy. Especially when everyone is fighting with mechas. And worst of all, Lelouch’s best friend even turned against him.

Wiz: Well, yes and no. See, Lelouch’s childhood friend, Suzaku had no idea that Lelouch was Zero, and was opposed to the rebellion. He was afraid it would cause the Japanese people to lose many lives if they resisted Brittania, and so thought it would be better if they stayed under Britannian rule, even if it was tyrannical, and so he became the champion of Britannia to stop the rebels, even if that meant killing them.

Boomstick: Which is some super messed up and twisted logic when you think about it, especially since Suzaku was Japanese himself. That’s literally like if a Jew during the holocaust sided with the Nazis against his own people to keep them in the concentration camps, and then fought and killed them and anyone who rebelled because he thought it would save lives.

Wiz: Boomstick, show some tact! That’s a sensitive subject!

Boomstick: What? That’s literally the logic Suzaku was following. He pretty much wanted the peace of slavery for the Japanese, which he was one of.

Wiz: Yes, that may be true, but you could be more sensitive with your analogy. Also, there was more to Suzaku’s logic than that. He thought that with his position as Britannia’s champion that he would be able to rise further in the ranking and eventually influence and convince the higher-ups into make life better for the Japanese people. A misguided and delusional belief born of naivety for sure, but it still came from a place of good intentions that he genuinely thought would save more lives in the end than what open rebellion would.

Boomstick: Wiz, the guy was a conceited, self-absorbed, delusional, hypocrite and a total idiot, there’s no two ways about it. I mean, he killed his own father, which basically cost Japan the war to begin with, and reduced all the people to slaves, because he thought that would save more lives. Well, I say give me liberty, or give me death!

Wiz: *Sigh* As Britannia’s champion, this naturally forced Suzaku and Lelouch to face off against each other numerous times. And while Suzaku was out to kill Lelouch, initially not knowing that he was Zero, Lelouch did his best to not have Suzaku be harmed once he realized it was his childhood friend that he was fighting, even at one point using his Geass on Suzaku to force him to live when Suzaku tried to sacrifice himself in order to take Lelouch out with him. But after several battles and confrontations, a true opportunity for peace came, but only ended up making things worse.

Boomstick: Turns out Lelouch wasn’t the only one who had a problem with daddy-dearest. His half-sister, Euphemia, wasn’t too happy with what was going on either. She tried to reach an agreement with Lelouch to help the Japanese people, and at first it looked like things would actually work out. But then everything went to hell.

Wiz: At this point, Lelouch’s Geass had evolved nearly beyond his control without him realizing it. Upon revealing to Euphemia that he had such a power and could order her to do anything, he gave an example by telling her that if he wanted to, he could order her to kill all the Japanese people, no matter how opposed she would be to it. Unfortunately, this caused his Geass to activate on its own, and Euphemia was unable to stop herself from beginning the mass murder of all Japanese people present.

Boomstick: Which left Lelouch with no choice but to kill her to save them. And since Suzaku was in love with her, that just made things a lot more personal and hostile between them. And eventually, Suzaku was able to discover Lelouch’s identity as Zero, capture him, and turn him over to the emperor.

Wiz: In a surprising twist, it was revealed that Lelouch’s father also possessed the power of Geass, and he used his power to alter Lelouch’s memories, reverting him back to the high school student he was before with no memory.

Boomstick: But the rebellion wasn’t having that. See this girl, that’s Kallen, Lelouch’s most loyal and trusted soldier. She found out who Lelouch really was too and managed to save him. And once Lelouch had his memories restored, it was right back to being Zero. Only now instead of leading a double life of pretending he wasn’t Zero, he had to lead a double life of pretending he still didn’t remember anything and that there was a Zero imposter out there. Which wasn’t easy since Suzaku and other Britannian soldiers were watching him like a hawk.

Wiz: Fortunately for Lelouch, his allies and his Geass power allowed him to keep up his deception while continuing on as being Zero. But with his Geass power stronger than ever, he had to be careful of what he said and did whenever he made eye contact with someone.

Boomstick: Even before then, his Geass was crazy. As soon as he got it, he ordered a group of people to die, and they immediately shot themselves with smiles on their faces. Oh, and get this, that’s not just a one-time occurrence. Geass has an unlimited continuous effect if the right order is given.

Wiz: By which we mean that once a command is given, it stays in effect if it’s an ongoing command. This is seen when Lelouch ordered Suzaku to “live”, and Suzaku literally becomes unable to take his own life or let himself die, and even forces him to flee from a situation where he would die, no matter how much he doesn’t want to. Lelouch even later uses his power on his older brother, Schneizel, forcing him to serve Zero, and Schneizel is forced to do so indefinitely. He can even use it to command others to forget situations, similar to his father’s Geass, or command someone to never speak again. However, commands must be something the person is actually capable of. So naturally Lelouch can’t just order someone to flap their arms and fly away, or pull off any other impossible task, like ordering Shirley not to die after she was stabbed.

Boomstick: Yeah, but whatever command Lelouch does give, he needs to make sure it’s a good one, because he can only use Geass on a person one time. After that, it won’t work anymore.

Wiz: True, but one time is usually all Lelouch needs, and while giving a command, he can also give multiple orders. However, there are limits to its use. For example, while his Geass can work from behind glass and other obstructions, as long as the person he uses it on can see Lelouch’s eyes, it can’t work over video message or recordings. It can, however, be used on reflective surfaces, such as a mirror.

Boomstick: Oh, hell yeah! Like that time when he threw a bunch of glass shards in the air and used his Geass, and his power bounced off the reflection of one piece after another until it hit his target. That was totally badass!

Wiz: Geass also has a range limitation though, having a maximum range of 272 meters, or 816 feet. How the whole process works isn’t entirely known, but it seems to rewire the brain and affect the nervous system. What more, after a command is carried out, the person Lelouch used his Geass on completely forgets everything that happened while they were under its influence.

Boomstick: Kind of like me during a drinking binge. Only, you know, without all the hangover stuff the next morning. Speaking of which, I’m totally getting wasted tonight. Want to join me, Wiz?

Wiz: I stick to wine coolers, thanks.

Boomstick: You what!?

Wiz: As we mentioned before, Lelouch’s Geass continues to grow in power, eventually reaching the point where it’s always in effect.

Boomstick: You what!?

Wiz: We’re moving on from that, Boomstick. While in the past Lelouch would need to tap into the power of Geass on his own in order to use it, when it eventually reaches this level, known as runaway Geass, anytime Lelouch says something that can be taken as a command, even indirectly, anyone making eye contact with him will fall to its power, as was the case with Euphemia. To prevent this, Lelouch begins wearing special contacts in order to prevent his Geass from effecting anyone he doesn’t want it to.

Boomstick: I’ll bet Lelouch doesn’t stick to wine coolers.

Wiz: He’s a teenager, Boomstick.

Boomstick: What’s your point?

Wiz: But Geass aside, while Lelouch isn’t all that athletic, he does have skills with firearms, and he’s very skilled at piloting a mecha, most notably the Shinkirō.

Boomstick: Which is a pretty badass mech, but not up to Suzaku’s Lancelot. Now that thing was a beast.

  • Feats
    • Gained a massive rebel following
    • Became the leader of the resistance
    • Founded the Order of the Black Knights
    • Established the United Nation of Japan
    • Liberated 1,000,000+ Japanese people from Britannia
    • Rescued the Chinese empress from a political marriage
    • Defeated Emperor Charles and Empress Marianne
    • Preserved the world population’s individuality
    • Destroyed the Geass Order
    • Defeated his whole family
    • Won the war for the world
    • Conquered and became the emperor of the world
    • Orchestrated his own assassination
    • Ended world hatred and brought world peace
    • Spoke to his friends and created an illusion from the afterlife

Wiz: But there was a lot more going on than the rebellion. Turns out, there was a secret Geass Order of others like C.C., who had a secret organization that she was a member of, but eventually defected from. Lelouch’s father was actually affiliated with this group, and was the brother of its leader.

Boomstick: Which naturally made them Lelouch’s enemy, so he wiped them all out after having sworn to put an end to Geass users after one of his sort-of girlfriends was killed because of it.

Wiz: Well, not all of them. See, Geass has another ability, one that all Geass uses gain the chance of obtaining if they live long enough like Lelouch did. And that is the chance to become immortal.

Boomstick: Basically, the person who gives someone else a Geass, like C.C., is immortal. And when the person they give a Geass too survives long enough for their Geass to evolve, they get the opportunity to take their predecessor’s Code of Immortality for themself. Which was actually what C.C. wanted.

Wiz: Having lived for such a long time, C.C. grew lonely and tired of having what she deemed to be a meaningless life, and so made a contract with Lelouch in the hopes that when the time came, he would take her immortality for himself and end her life. A rather morbid thought, but perhaps understandable given C.C.’s solitary lifestyle. After suffering alone and isolated for hundreds of years, watching everyone and everything around her die while she remained unchanging, she became indifferent, miserable, and tired of living, and simply wanted it all to end, but quite literally couldn’t do it herself, and so was relying on Lelouch.

Boomstick: But Lelouch didn’t find the idea of being immortal all that appealing, or the idea of having to kill C.C. So that was met with a big fat no on his end, and he eventually managed to convince C.C. to keep living.

Wiz: The same couldn’t be said for his father though, who not only managed to become immortal by taking his brother’s immortality, but revealed his ultimate plan, and his ultimate deception.

Boomstick: So get this. Remember that whole thing about Lelouch’s mom getting assassinated and his dad casting him out? Yeah, that was just one big lie. A lot of complicated stuff happened, but in the end, his mom was basically shown to still be alive, and his dad knew the whole time, but was just pretending.

Wiz: This, naturally, completely turned Lelouch’s whole world upside-down, but in the end did nothing to lessen his hatred towards his father, and simply extended it to his mother when he realized that they were both acting out of selfishness and greed. His parents ultimate plan was for the two of them to become immortal and then to unite the minds of everyone, living and dead, into a single unified consciousness by initiating the Ragnarök Connection.

Boomstick: Did that blow your mind? No? Well, this will. The whole reason Lelouch’s dad wanted to conquer the world was to unite these things called Thought Elevators, and then go to this place called C’s World, where the individual minds of literally everyone exists in this kind of pocket dimension.

Wiz: The plan was to merge all these minds together into one, essentially uniting all of humanity into a single being. A sole consciousness shared by all if you will, like a hive mind. This would, in a sense, make everyone equal, united, bringing eternal peace and harmony to the world. Or so Lelouch’s parents believed.

Boomstick: Lelouch had a different opinion. Rather than save humanity, he thought that this would create a stagnated world without a future that would ultimately doom it, and he didn’t think that it was right that his parents were just deciding for everyone else to take away their individuality.

Wiz: Claiming that his parents were ultimately being selfish and tyrannical, Lelouch rejected and denounced them and their ideals. He then put an end to the unification process by using his Geass on these consciousnesses themselves and ordered them to maintain their individuality, thus preventing them from unifying and putting an end to his parents’ scheme.

Boomstick: It was a lot more than that. Since his parents, I guess, were plugged into C’s World since they were using their Code of Immortality to force the consciousnesses to unite, once the consciousnesses maintained their individuality, they were both absorbed and lost amongst them or something since, I guess, they could no longer recognize themselves amongst all those countless minds. So, yeah, that happened.

Wiz: But Lelouch’s job wasn’t over yet. Having destroyed the Geass Order and saved humanity, Lelouch made peace with Suzaku, and the two came up with what they called the Zero Requiem. This involved Lelouch taking the throne of Britannian as the 99th emperor and declaring war on the entire world with the intention of conquering it all for himself.

Boomstick: Which really threw all his friends and allies for a loop, but Lelouch meant exactly what he said. And with Suzaku as his head knight and the power of the Britannian army, plus his Geass, he was able to take over every single nation of the world, overthrow all resistance, including his own family, and conquer the whole world. He even turned against his sister and stole the ultimate weapon of destruction from her.

Wiz: Lelouch quite literally became the supreme emperor of the entire world and made all other nations completely unable to resist him or defy him under the penalty of death. But in doing so, he became the most despised person in all of history, where the entire world was united against him in their hatred of him.

Boomstick: Yeah, but get this, that was actually Lelouch’s plan all along. He wanted the whole world to hate him. His goal was for all the nations and all the people to view him as an enemy they all despised and needed to unite together to fight so they would stop hating and fighting each other and instead focus everything on him.

Wiz: And once Lelouch had accomplished this, he had Suzaku, who had faked his death in the final battle, take on the guise of Zero, and assassinate him in front of the entire world.

Boomstick: No joke. During Lelouch’s victory parade, he put on a show to have himself be killed for everyone to see, so that all the hatred of the world died with him. Like, he planned all of it. That’s like literally making yourself out to be Hitler, becoming an enemy of the very world that you conquered to unify them against you, only to secretly arrange your own assassination so that all the other nations will finally be at peace with each other once you’re dead.

Wiz: Why are you so hung up on World War II?

Boomstick: What? I only made two references.

Wiz: In any case, Lelouch’s plan ended up working. Having united the other nations of the world, even his own empire, against a single enemy, once Lelouch was out of the picture, the world finally achieved lasting peace, and Lelouch was able to die with a smile on his face knowing that he had finally brought an end to all wars.

Boomstick: Yeah, that’s all well and good for him, I guess, but his friends and sister, who realized what he really did, were pretty upset about it.

Wiz: Yes, it was a sacrifice that affected many, not just Lelouch. Even Suzaku had to indefinitely continue to pretend that he was dead and live the rest of his life tending to Lelouch’s sister and acting as Zero, but it seemed that this was truly the only way to bring everlasting peace once and for all.

Boomstick: Unless you count the movie series retelling that completely undercuts Lelouch’s sacrifice by having war start up again only a year later. Talk about ruining the perfect finale to a series, and arguably the greatest ending in all of anime, by making it and everything Lelouch strived for pointless. So glad that’s non-canon. And didn’t he gain immortality in that once he was brought back to life?

Wiz: Yes, in the movie series that was a retelling of the anime and manga, Lelouch was brought back to life and achieved immortality through Geass, but as you said, that was a non-canon story that changed many things from the actual series. So we won’t actually be including immortality as one of Lelouch’s abilities. But in a way, even the canon version of Lelouch obtained his own form of immortality, living on in the hearts and minds of his friends as the one who brought the world peace.

Boomstick: And being forever known as the demon emperor to the rest of the world. But at least he got to use his Geass from the afterlife to contact his friends on his birthday, where he created that whole illusion world for them for the day.

Wiz: But whether the world knew Lelouch’s true goal or not, his death would forever remain the historical event that final brought an end to war.

Interlude[]

Wiz: Alright the combatants are set. And we've run the data through all possibilities.

Boomstick: It’s time for a Death Battle!

The Battle[]

Light is sitting at home watching TV as Ryuk sits off to the side eating apples. A news report is on, and it’s about Zero and the Black Knights. Light frowns in disapproval at the TV as his finger taps on the cover of the Death Note on his desk.

Light: “This Zero is proving to be quite the nuisance. With the uprising he’s causing, it could interfere with my plan to become the god of this world.”

Ryuk chuckles as he continues to devour apples.

Ryuk: “And unfortunately for you, you don’t know his real name or face. Too bad.”

Light: “Yes, but he has gained quite the following. If I can get him to become a follower of Kira, it will be quite beneficial to me. And once I find out who he is, I can kill him at any time.”

Elsewhere, Lelouch is also watching TV, only he’s watching a different news report on Kira while C.C. is lounging on the couch reading a manga and eating pizza.

Lelouch: “So, it looks as if Kira has struck again. How is it he’s able to kill anyone anywhere at any time? Could he possess some kind of Geass?”

C.C. doesn’t even bother to look up from her manga.

C.C.: “It’s possible, though I’m unaware of a Geass that allows a person to kill others by simply knowing their name and face.”

Lelouch: “If they are a Geass user, then having such an incredible power could be helpful to our cause. But if I can’t get him to join us, then I’ll have to dispose of him.”

Both Light and Lelouch’s eyes narrow at the TV.

Light/Lelouch: ‘I must find out who he is!’

FIGHT!

Light is at work writing names down in the Death Note. The TV is playing when all of a sudden, the picture becomes static-filled, and suddenly the image of Zero appears on it.

Lelouch: “Greetings, citizens of the world. I am Zero, and I have an important message for the one known as Kira.”

Light gasps in surprise and looks up from the Death Note at the TV, and Ryuk’s attention is drawn to it as well.

Light: “Zero has a message for Kira?”

Lelouch: “This message is playing on all stations and will do so for the remainder of the day. If any of Kira’s followers know Kira’s true identity, then I ask that you inform him of this broadcast, for what I have to say is of the utmost importance… Kira, I have been following what you are doing, and I’m sure you have been following what I have been doing. I think we could help each other, and perhaps we can come to an understanding. If not, then I fear we may become obstacles in each other’s paths. Therefore, I would like to speak with you in hopes we can come to an agreement, and even form a partnership. On the screen, you will find a video chat link. Don’t worry, it’s completely secure; I must protect myself as well. If you’re willing to speak with me, then come to the link address at 3:00 two days from now, and we will speak privately.”

Having been watching the screen with interest, Light crosses his arms as he looks at the chat link on the screen.

Light: “So, Zero, you want to speak with Kira, do you? I can see how you would need to resort to such measures in order to get in contact with me in light of both of us hiding our identities. But how will you know that you’ll be speaking to the real Kira if you give the link to the public?”

Lelouch: “And for anyone entertaining the idea of coming to the chat link and impersonating Kira, I would advise against it. I’m planning on giving all those present on the chat a test to find out which of you is the real Kira. Once it is determined who the real Kira is, all others will be expelled from the meeting. But since you all know how Kira operates, I would suggest not pretending to be him, not unless you want to face his wrath and risk your life. As for the real Kira, I hope to speak with you soon.”

The screen becomes static-y once more before the message starts playing all over again, and Light stares at the screen in thought as Ryuk hovers over to him and chuckles in amusement.

Ryuk: “Well now, this is an interesting turn of events. You were just saying not too long ago that you wanted to find out who Zero was.”

Light: “Yes, this is rather fortunate. If I play my cards right, I can find out who Zero is, and maybe even get all his followers to accept me as their god, especially if I use the Death Note for their cause. Or I could use it against them and wipe out Zero and all his rebels. But whatever I decide to do, I should at least hear what he has to say.”

Meanwhile, at the rebel base, Lelouch removes his Zero helmet and lets out a sigh.

Lelouch: “The message has been sent. Now we have to make preparations for when he contacts me.”

C.C. glances at him curiously.

C.C.: “Do you really think he’ll be willing to speak to you?”

Lelouch: “He can’t afford not to. It may be risky, but I have an advantage. He doesn’t know that I have a Geass, but I know that he has one.”

The date changes to the day of the meeting, and the clock strikes 3:00. A screen comes on, and Lelouch appears in his Zero costume. A list of usernames scrolls up in the side of the screen, most of them being variations of Kira.

Lelouch: “The time has come. I, Zero, am here as promised. Kira, I assume that you are here as well. But as I expected, there’s a number of others that are also here pretending to be Kira as well. I suggest you fakes leave now before it’s too late. I will be administering the test shortly to weed out the imposters.”

Sitting in his room, Light is amongst those in the chat room, waiting eagerly for the upcoming test.

Light: “Alright, Zero, let’s see this little test of yours.”

Ryuk: “You sure this can’t be traced back to you?”

Light: “There’s no fear of that. I’m using several of my father’s programs to make this completely untraceable. Unfortunately, it seems that Zero is untraceable as well. All attempts to find his location and user information are coming up empty. We’ll just have to wait and see what happens.”

Lelouch: “Your time to back out is up. Those of you still pretending to be Kira will just have to face the consequences. As for the real one.”

He snaps his fingers. From behind him, members of the Black Knights bring in a man and throw him to the ground. The man looks terrified as he begs for mercy, but no one pays him any attention.

Lelouch: “This is a Britannian elite. For years he’s been oppressing the Japanese people, among other things. Criminal things. Things that would land him in prison for life were it not for his wealth and status allowing him to avoid justice. You can see a list of his sins at the bottom of the screen, along with his name.”

Leaning in, Light examines the man and read the information provided.

Light: “Yes, I recognize him. I’ve always suspected that he was a shady character.”

Lelouch: “Kira, you’ve killed many people for far less atrocities than what this man has committed. And while I know that your go-to method of execution is with a heart attack, I also know that you have other methods of killing people, unique methods. So my challenge to you is this. Execute this man. Each of you in this chat, post how you would have this man die. All your messages will be visible only to me. Whoever posts the method of execution that matches how this man dies will prove that they are the real Kira. I will then provide that person alone with a new link where we can talk privately, just the two of us.”

Ryuk lets out a chuckle beside Light, who looks impressed.

Light: “Well, what do you know, he actually found a way for me to prove that I am the real Kira.”

Ryuk: “This guy is good. So, what are you going to do?”

Light: “Play his game for now. As long as I don’t reveal anything about myself, I hold all the power. And once I figure out who he is, I can kill him at any time. But first, I need to let him know that he’s dealing with the real Kira.”

He types a message on the computer and sends it, then he picks up a pen and starts writing in the Death Note. When he finishes, he sets the pen down and looks at his watch. When 40 seconds pass, the Death Note activates.

On the screen, the weeping man suddenly seems to go into a trance. He reaches up and grabs his lower and upper jaw, then pulls his mouth open until there’s a loud crack as his jaw breaks. He then drops to his hands and knees and slams his forehead on the ground three times while crying out “All hail Kira!” with each impact. Then he rises up, grabs his own head, and turns it around until his neck snaps, and he drops dead.

Lelouch and the Black Knights stare at the dead man in silence for a few moments before Lelouch looks at the screen again.

Lelouch: “I believe that was specific enough. Yes, based on the messages you’ve all sent, only one matches. ‘Breaks own jaw, then bows so low three times his head hits the ground while hailing Kira before snapping his own neck’. The one who sent this message is the true Kira. I will send you a link so that we may talk in private. As for you impersonators, I hope Kira shows you more mercy than he showed this poor soul.”

He snaps his fingers and the Black Knights drag the dead body out of the room. He then presses a button on the computer and a link appears on Light’s computer. Light smirks and clicks on the link, taking him to the private chat room. Lelouch enters the chat room as well, and the image of a K appears on his screen.

Lelouch: “Hello, Kira. It’s an honor to speak to the real you.”

When Light speaks, his distorted voice comes out of Lelouch’s speakers.

Light: “Zero, I’ve heard a lot about you. I’ve been keeping track of your rebellion. I must admit, I’m impressed. It’s no easy feat to topple an entire empire.”

Lelouch: “You’ve chosen a rather ambitious path as well. You seek to become the god of this world and rid it of all crime.”

Light: “I am justice. This world is rotting, it can’t be allowed to go on the way it is. I am doing what is necessary to save it. Only I can clean up society.”

Lelouch thumps his chest.

Lelouch: “I understand completely. I too seek to bring forth justice and take down the evil Britannian Empire. I believe we can help each other.”

Light smirks as he thinks to himself.

Light: ‘So, it’s just as I thought. He’s proposing an alliance. He wants to use my power of the Death Note in order to defeat Britannia. And while doing so would definitely be a great display of Kira’s power, I will need the people to rally behind me, not Zero.’

Ryuk: “So this guy wants to team up so you can help him win the war. Bold move.”

Light: “Zero, your idea has merit. But this is your war, not mine. Kira is justice, he is the path of righteousness. And while I am against most of what Britannia has done, the Black Knights have committed many crimes and even terrorist acts themselves. So I’m sure you can see my dilemma.”

Lelouch: “Indeed I do, Kira. However, I’m sure that you will agree that there are times where the ends justify the means if it’s for the greater good. I have decided to do whatever it takes to take down Britannia for their evil deeds, just as you have in order to cleanse this world. I am prepared to do what I must to accomplish that goal, even if that means killing or sacrificing my own life.”

Light: ‘So, he’s willing to become a martyr if it means accomplishing his goal. That means he’s willing to cave into almost anything I demand of it means victory. However, that also means that I can’t trust him since his loyalty will only go as far as gaining victory.’

Lelouch: “Kira, I understand that for us to have an alliance that I am asking you to trust me, but I also know that this puts your identity at risk. As someone who also symbolizes an idea, I too know the importance of keeping my identity a secret. Therefore, I will give you this bit of information. I know how you are able to kill people without being present.”

Light’s eyes widen in surprise. He glances at Ryuk, but the Shinigami just chuckles.

Light: “What do you mean? How do you know?”

Lelouch: “Because I possess the power of Geass as well.”

Muting the computer, Light turns to Ryuk.

Light: “What is this? How can he know about the Death Note? And what’s Geass?”

Ryuk: “No clue. Never heard of it.”

Looking annoyed, Light crosses his arms and starts thinking out loud.

Light: “Is it possible that Zero has also obtained a Death Note? No, if he did, then he wouldn’t need my help and could just use it himself to win the war. Or perhaps he had one once, but the Shinigami took it back without Zero relinquishing ownership, otherwise he would have forgotten about it. Or maybe he simply lost it somewhere. Ryuk, is there a Shinigami named Geass?”

Ryuk scratches his head, as if trying to remember.

Ryuk: “Hmm, I don’t know. Maybe. There are a lot of Shinigami, I can’t remember them all. I only make a point to know my friends and those on tops.”

Light sighs as he continues to ponder this.

Light: “If there is a Shinigami called Geass and Zero has their power, then it likely means that he made a deal to obtain the Shinigami Eyes. I can at least determine that he no longer possesses a Death Note, but I should at least check about the Shinigami Eyes.”

He turns back to the computer and unmutes it.

Light: “Tell me, Zero, this power of Geass, is it related to eyes? And how did you obtain it?”

On the screen, Lelouch tenses up, but it’s mostly hidden by his disguise.

Lelouch: ‘So then, I was right. If he knows that much, then he must have a Geass. I doubt it was from C. C., so he must have gotten it from another Geass user, perhaps even a member of the Geass Order, and his power lets him kill a person once he has their name and face in mind.’

Light: “I’m guessing by your reaction and silence that I guessed correctly.”

Lelouch: “Indeed you have. I obtained my power by forming a contract with someone, someone who belongs to a special group that most of the world knows nothing about. I’m assuming you did the same, although your power differs from mine. You require a name and a face to kill someone. I can’t do that, otherwise I would have already taken down my enemies. But this is why I think we can help each other. You can use your power to help me defeat Britannia, and I can use mine to help you rid the world of the filth inhabiting it, along with anyone who stands in your way.”

As Ryuk laughs, Light once again mutes the computer.

Ryuk: “Looks like you were right, he did make a deal with a Shinigami called Geass and gained the Shinigami Eyes.”

Light: “But he doesn’t have a Death Note, at least not anymore. And he’s figured out that I have one, but not the Shinigami Eyes, hence why he wants to make an alliance. Unfortunately for him, I already have Misa to use her Shinigami Eyes for me. And unlike her, I can tell that Zero won’t be manipulated. At this point, he’s just a risk to Kira who can expose me. It would be best to just kill him as soon as possible.”

Ryuk: “Oh? And how are you going to do that without his name or seeing his face?”

Light: “You’re right, Ryuk, I need to get him to reveal his identity. Then I can dispose of him and gain his followers as Kira supporters by taking out the Brittanian elites, and in doing so put a stop to the rebellion of the Black Knights, which will gain Kira even more support.”

He unmutes the computer.

Light: “I must admit, Zero, your offer intrigues me. I can indeed see how your offer benefits us both. However, there is still the matter of trust between us.”

Lelouch: “I agree. Thus, I propose that we lay all our cards in the table and meet in person to put us on even ground. This way we’ll know that we can trust each other.”

Light: “That’s quite a bold request. But you must understand that as things stand, me keeping my identity a secret and remaining hidden is the best course of action for me. Not just in general, but also because I don’t know if I can trust you yet.”

Lelouch: “I understand completely, and I do wish to establish trust. Thus, I will offer you information about myself in good faith. Information that will allow you to figure out my identity, but not confirm it until our meeting.”

Light: “You would provide me with this information. Why?”

Lelouch: “I told you that I am prepared to die for my cause. So if providing you with the ability to kill me will get you to trust me, then I will do it. This way when we meet, I will be unable to betray you since you will be able to kill me at any time, thus preventing me from exposing you under penalty of death if I my betray you.”

Looking excited, Ryuk glances at Light curiously.

Ryuk: “How interesting. He’s really willing to put his life on the line to gain your trust. This could be what you need.”

Light nods as he addresses Lelouch.

Light: “That is a show of good faith. If you tell me who you are, then you will indeed gain my trust, and I will agree to meet with you.”

Lelouch shakes his finger at the screen.

Lelouch: “Not so fast. I did not say that I would tell you who I am, for not even my Black Knights know my identity. I said that I would provide you with the means to figure it out, and you will only be able to confirm, it when we meet. I do have to protect myself until we know that we can trust each other.”

Light: ‘Well, it seems he’s not a complete fool. He’s willing to give me enough slack to put himself at risk, but not directly expose himself until we’re on even ground, which will only happen once we meet. A clever plan. But this still provides me with the advantage since I’m the one with the Death Note.’

Ryuk: “That’s a rather enticing offer, Light. What are you going to do?”

Light: “Very well, Zero, I will indulge you for now. Depending on what information you give me, I will decide afterwards on whether we should meet or not. I’m afraid this is nonnegotiable.”

Lelouch: “As you wish. I agree to your terms. So, here’s my clue. You must get ahold of the current yearbook of Ashford Academy. I would recommend you study the student body, for I am one of them. Based on your criminal research, I would imagine that familiarizing yourself with the student pictures would not be too difficult. And knowing you, when we met, you will be able to quite easily confirm my identity once you see my face. But at that point, I think we will have proven that we can trust each other. Our meeting will gain you my trust, and your ability to kill me at any given moment will hopefully allow me to gain yours since from that point on, I will be at your mercy.”

Ryuk: “That’s quite the generous offer. Don’t you think so, Light?”

Light: ‘He’s right. With that information, I can indeed kill Zero whenever I need to, which Zero is hoping will prove his loyalty to me. Of course, to actually be able to confirm who Zero is, I will have to meet him. And while this could be a ploy to simply get me out into the open, I can have Ryuk make sure this isn’t a trap before exposing myself. Zero may have the Shinigami Eyes, but unless he touches the Death Note, he won’t be able to see Ryuk.’

Lelouch: “Kira, are you considering my offer?”

Light: “I am. This is already a great risk on your part. But tell me, if you are indeed a student at Ashford Academy, then what is to stop me from simply killing off the entire student body?”

Lelouch: “In truth, nothing. But as you yourself have declared, you are justice, and you’re seeking to become the god of this world, a goal I have no opposition to and will have no issue of helping you achieve as long as Britannia falls in the process. However, your goal requires you to gain a following. And while you have already accomplished that, I would imagine that killing off an entire student body would not reflect well on Kira and would cause you to lose a good portion of your followers.”

A scowl crosses Light’s face as he realizes that he’s right, and Ryuk laughs at his side.

Ryuk: “He’s certainly got you there.”

Lelouch: “I can still imagine that you would be reluctant to meet me. So how about this, I will even allow you to choose the time and place of our meeting. I give you my word that I will come alone and unarmed as long as you do the same. You may even wear a disguise if you choose, and I will reveal my identity to you first as long as you leave the Ashford Academy yearbook behind. Are these terms acceptable to you?”

Light: ‘I see. He’s giving me the means to learn his identity with the yearbook. I will have a list of names, but no face to match it. Once we meet, I will get to see his face, and he will learn who I am with his Shinigami Eyes. If he exposes me, then I’ll be able to kill him. But he doesn’t want me to bring the yearbook because then I’ll be able to kill him on the spot before he has the chance to learn my identity. This will allow us to part ways on equal ground where he can expose me to the authorities, but then I can kill him if he does. We’ll be forced to trust each other. From there, he’ll help me to become the god of this world if I defeat his enemies for him. That is meant to be our alliance.’

Lelouch: “I await your answer, Kira.”

Light considers everything for a while before he begins typing.

Light: “Very well, Zero, I agree to meet with you. I am sending you the location and time of our meeting now.”

A few moments pass, and a message appears on Lelouch’s end.

Lelouch: “The time and location have been received. I look forward to meeting you. I hope our alliance will be beneficial for us both.”

He hits a button and the screen goes black. Reaching up, he removes his helmet and lets out a sigh as C.C. comes walking up behind him.

C.C.: “This is a dangerous game you’re playing Lelouch.”

Lelouch: “I’m well aware of that, but sometimes risk is necessary. If I can use Kira’s power, then this war will be won. But if it turns out that he can’t be trusted, then I’ll have to kill him. And don’t worry, I will have the Black Knights standing by if he tries anything.”

C.C.: “And what if he obtained the Code of Immortality from whoever gave him his Geass? You will not be able to kill him.”

Lelouch: “I will just have to find that out. If I need to use my Geass on him, I can’t waste it on a useless command. Somehow though, I don’t think he’s immortal, otherwise he wouldn’t be so adamant about staying in hiding. But if he is immortal, then I will just have to improvise.”

Back in Light’s room, Light has obtained a yearbook of Ashford Academy and is looking through it while Ryuk looks over his shoulder.

Ryuk: “So you’re really going to meet with him?”

Light: “I don’t have much of a choice if I want to find out his identity. It may be risky, but I have the advantage. I have you to check to make sure the coast is clear of anything to watch out for. Zero doesn’t know that. And besides, he has something to gain from this encounter. He needs me to defeat his enemies for him. But all I need from him is his identity.”

The date changes, revealing Lelouch standing alone in a warehouse in his Zero costume. He’s waiting patiently with his arms crossed, while flying up above is Ryuk. He flutters in place for a few moments before taking off and going to meet up with Light.

Light: “So? Any sign of anyone?”

Ryuk: “Not a soul in sight, except for him and us. No Black Knights or other Shinigami are here. And I didn’t see any weapons on him either.”

Light: “And no hidden cameras anywhere?”

Ryuk: “None that I could find. The coast is clear. Well, except for what you suspected about his helmet.”

Light: “I thought as much. But it’s no matter. Which means it’s time for Kira to make his appearance.”

Light puts on a fencing mask to hide his face. He then comes out of hiding and enters the warehouse, approaching Lelouch and stopping several yards away.

Lelouch: “Ah the mysterious Kira. Finally, we meet.”

Behind his own mask, Lelouch’s eyes narrow and he frowns.

Lelouch: ‘That mask. I can’t see his eyes. I need to be making eye contact with him to use my Geass. Right now, I can’t even tell where’s he’s actually looking. He must have worn that kind of mask knowing this.’

Light: “Zero, I am pleased to see that you stayed true to your word.”

Lelouch: “I said that I wanted to establish trust between us. Tell me, did you look at the Ashford Academy yearbook?”

Light: “I did. And now I’ve come to confirm if you are truly a student. If I recognize you from the yearbook, then I will know that I can trust you, and we shall have our alliance.”

Lelouch: “Very well, that was what we agreed on. But first, tell me, who was it that gave you your Geass? I’m curious to know.”

Light: “My Geass? Isn’t that the name of the Shinigami you made a deal with?”

Lelouch: “Shinigami? As in a death god? I’m afraid I don’t understand. Are you saying you’ve encountered a god of death?”

Standing beside Light, unseen by Lelouch, Ryuk lets out a laugh.

Lelouch: “Oopsie, I think you both made a mistake.”

Light: “I see. It seems we both made some incorrect assumptions about each other.”

Lelouch: “Indeed. I was under the impression that you made a deal with someone from the Order of Geass, but it seems that I was mistaken. So it was with a Shinigami. That is how you are able to kill people with just a name and a face. Quite intriguing.”

Light: “And I take it someone from this Order of Geass gave you this thing called Geass, and whatever it is, is related to your eyes.”

Lelouch: “You are correct. It is how I have been able to take this rebellion so far.”

Light: ‘If he doesn’t have the Shinigami Eyes, then he can’t see my name even if he sees my face, so he can’t expose me. Still, whatever this Order of Geass is, I should look into it. But first I need to find out Zero’s identity.’

Lelouch: “Tell me, how did you encounter a Shinigami? I’m quite curious to know; I was not aware that they existed.”

Light: “Before we reveal any more of our secrets to each other, I think we should establish if each other are really trustworthy.”

Lelouch: “Yes, of course. I made you a promise, and I intend to keep it.”

He reaches up and removes his helmet, revealing his face. From behind his own mask, Light’s bottom lip starts to tremble as he tries to hold back a laugh.

Light: “I knew it! I knew it! It was you. You thought that you were clever by giving me such a big list of possible people you could be, Zero, but it was clear from your leadership and strategic mind that you weren’t just any student. You were someone who was not only smart, but also in a position of authority, such as someone on the Student Council. And while there were a few candidates that fit the profile, none were more likely than you, Lelouch. Your popularity and laziness and indifference may make you seem less likely to be Zero, but such things actually provide the perfect cover. I know this because I have used these methods myself.’

Lelouch: “And now you’ve seen me. I take it you will recall seeing my picture in the yearbook. Even if you don’t remember seeing it, I’m sure you’ll be abler to pick it out now once you look again, and in doing so be able to learn my real name.”

Light: ‘Oh, Lelouch, you’re so naïve. Even if I hadn’t guessed that you were Zero, I memorized the names and faces of all the most likely candidates. All I had to do was confirm which it was. You thought that you would be safe if I didn’t have the Ashford Academy yearbook on me to look up your name once you showed me your face, but you never would have expected me to remember it. You’ve underestimated me.’

Lelouch: “So, Kira, have I earned your trust?”

Light: “Nearly. There’s just one problem. We may be alone, but I’m fully aware that you have a communication device inside that helmet of yours.”

Lelouch glances at his helmet and Light’s smile widens behind his mask.

Light: ‘I didn’t just have Ryuk check the area for cameras or other people. I also had him check for listening devices. And thanks to some equipment from the Special Task Force, he was able to pick up the radio waves from the transmitter in your helmet. You thought you could trap me in a scenario where we would be forced to trust each other. I’ll bet that once you find out who I am that you’ll contact your people and have plans made to have my identity released to the public if you ever died. You thought you could make those arrangements before I had the time to verify who you were in the yearbook so that I wouldn’t be able to just kill you. But now I can do it before you have the chance to make those arrangements.’

Lelouch sighs and closes his eyes.

Lelouch: “You are correct, there is a transmitter inside my helmet. However, this was not an attempt to deceive you. I still do not know who you are, but you know who I am. On the off chance that you chose to kill me, I would alert my Black Knights, and they would arrive here in minutes in their Knightmares to apprehend you. I do hope you understand, it was a safety precaution, nothing more. I truly wish for us to be allies.”

Light: ‘Oh, yes, I understand. It would be foolish for you to offer yourself up on a silver plate to someone who could kill you at a moment’s notice. So of course you would take such a precaution. But I anticipated this. Your fate was already sealed. In fact, this works out in my favor. I already have the details of your death written out in the Death Note. Once it goes into effect, you’ll contact your Black Knights to not only confirm our alliance, but for your entire rebellion to put their faith in Kira and to accept him as their new leader and god. Then you will die and become a martyr, your dying wish being for them to serve me, which they will gladly do once I take out Britannia’s royalty. All I needed was your name to write in the space I left in the rest of the instructions for your death. I’ll simply add the detail for you to tell me about Geass as well before you contact your Knights.’

Lelouch: “So, Kira, have I earned your trust? Will you accept my alliance?”

Light: “Indeed, Zero, we have an alliance. It will be an honor to work with you.”

Lelouch sighs, looking pleased, and smiles.

Lelouch: “Then to further establish trust, would you mind removing your mask like we agreed. You may keep your real name a secret, I have no problem with calling you Kira, but I would like to have a face to go with the name, as we agreed. I’d also like to know about this Shinigami, if you’re willing to share.”

Light: “Hold that thought. I need to make a quick note about something.”

He reaches behind himself and removes the Death Note from where it was tucked into the back of his pants and covered by his shirt. He then reaches into his pocket and pulls out a pen. He flips open to the page where he had written the details of Lelouch’s death and quickly includes having him explain all about Geass. Afterwards, he begins writing down Lelouch’s name in the empty space of the description.

Light: ‘Your time as a rebel leader is over, Lelouch. Soon you will be dead, the secrets of Geass will be mine, and all your followers will worship me as their god. You played a good game to force me to come out in the open like this, but you were too lacking in need-to-know information. You didn’t know about Ryuk or the Death Note, and you underestimated me being able to figure out who you are. You’re far from a worthy opponent like L, and because of that, you will have to die. And 40 seconds from now, you will.’

Lelouch: “What are you writing?”

Upon finishing writing, Light lowers the Death Note. He glances at his watch to begin the countdown, then looks up at Lelouch.

Light: “Just a few details for our alliances, nothing for you to worry about right now. But as for your request of seeing my face, I’ll give you the same courtesy you gave me.”

He reaches up and pulls off the fencing mask, revealing himself to Lelouch, who looks surprised upon seeing him.

Light: ‘Yes, look up the face of your god. And your death. It will be the last thing you see in this world. Just 25 more seconds, and you’re through.’

Lelouch: “Wait, aren’t you the boyfriend of that pop idol, Misa-Misa? I didn’t expect Kira to be someone so young.”

Light: “Funny, I could say the same about you. My name is Light Yagami, and I suppose we’re both prime examples of what young people can do… Lelouch.”

Lelouch gasps.

Lelouch: “You know my name!?”

Light: “I do. And to answer your question about the Shinigami, I’m able to kill someone by writing their name in their notebook.”

He victoriously holds up the Death Note, showing Lelouch his name written on the page.

Light. “Just like this!”

The hand on his watch ticks once more, indicating that 40 seconds had gone by since he had finished writing down Lelouch’s name. Light continues to hold the Death Note out to Lelouch, a deranged, victorious smile on his face. But as the seconds continue to tick by, nothing happens, and Lelouch continues to remain where he is, showing no sign of falling under the Death Note’s influence. A confused look crosses Light’s face, followed by a gasp when he realizes that nothing is happening, and he looks back at the Death Note.

Light: “But… What? Why isn’t it working!?”

Lelouch: “Run into a little snag in your plan, Kira? Or should I just call you, Light Yagami?”

Light looks back at him, looking furious as Lelouch stares him down unfeelingly.

Lelouch: “You’ve made a fatal mistake in this game, Kira, and that puts you in checkmate. Now, I, Lelouch vi Britannia, command you DIE!!!

Lelouch’s Geass takes effect, and his eyes flash with his power that flows over Light.

Light: ‘Wait, vi Britannia!?’

The Geass takes hold and rewires Light’s mind. A deranged grin spreads across his eyes and he holds up the Death Note.

Light: “As you wish, your highness!”

He writes down his full name under the instructions he had given Lelouch as Ryuk and Lelouch look on. Light stares down at the page with his name on it, still looking deranged. The forty seconds pass and Light’s heart suddenly stops beating. He gasps, snapping out of the Geass trance, and grips his chest. The Death Note falls from his hands and he stumbles forward before collapsing onto his side. As Lelouch walks over, Light stares up at him in disbelief.

Light: “But… I’m… justice…”

His eyes droop shut and he lets out one final breath. Lelouch looks down at the Death Note beside him, then bends down and picks it up. He looks inside to the page it was still open on and sees the name LIGHT YAGAMI written down. And right above it is the name LELOUCH LAMPEROUGE. He stares at the two names for a few moments before snapping the book shut and looking back down at Light.

Lelouch: “You’re not justice. You’re nothing.”

KO!

Lelouch turns and begins walking away with the Death Note. Ryuk suddenly appears behind him and places a hand on his shoulder, stopping Lelouch, who turns around and sees him, and Ryuk gives him a thumbs-up.

Outcome[]

Boomstick: Wait, what the hell was all that!? Where’s all the carnage!? I feel gypped!

Wiz: Sorry, Boomstick, but for this fight, it would come down to a battle of wits rather than strength or power.

Boomstick: Foal! I call foal!

Wiz: You can scream about it all you want, but this was a battle of who could outthink the other. Even if it did come to a physical confrontation, that would mean taking Lelocuh’s mecha into consideration, and he still would have won. Or he could have simply used his Geass on him during the fight itself. For this type of battle though, what it basically came down to was whether Light could figure out Lelouch’s identity or if Lelouch could use his Geass on Light. And in this scenario, Lelouch had more advantages than Light.

Boomstick: Well, yeah, all Lelouch had to do was look Light in the eye from about 800 feet away or less to use his Geass on him, then just order him to die. But Light needed to see Lelouch’s face and figure out his real name. So they basically had the same issue of needing to see the other in person, only Light also needed to know Lelouch’s real name, and Ryuk wasn’t going to tell him that.

Wiz: The hardest part for Lelouch would be getting Light out of hiding and meeting with him face-to-face within range of his Geass, but he knew that Light wasn’t just going come out on his own. So he basically dangled bait on a hook that Light couldn’t resist. And since neither knew about the other’s power, it would only make sense that Lelouch would assume that Light had a Geass, and Light would assume that Lelouch at least once had a Death Note but now only had Shinigami Eyes, so they would both work under that assumption and plan around that. And based on what had become common knowledge of how Light worked as Kira, Lelouch would know that Light would need his name and face.

Boomstick: And in promising to reveal his face while providing Light with a way to find out his name, Lelouch basically gave him the means he needed to write his name in his Death Note. And since Lelouch had appeared as Zero to enemies before, there wasn’t really any reason to think that he wouldn’t do so this time if Light agreed to meet him. He did make a pretty convincing offer after all. And since Light concluded that Lelouch had Shinigami Eyes but didn’t have a Death Note, it was enough to get him to come out of hiding since as he figured that he could just kill Lelouch before he told anyone who Kira really was.

Wiz: It had become common knowledge that Kira was able to kill a person if he knew their name and face, so Lelouch was able to use this to his advantage. It was also well known just how smart Kira was. So by providing Light with the information about his school yearbook, Lelouch was able to lead Light into believing that he would gain the means be able to kill him, with the only thing Light still needed being to see his face, and meeting him would be the only way Light would be able to do this. This allowed Light to believe that he had all the cards in his hand so he could him to kill Lelouch once they met. So under these conditions, there was really no reason for Light not to meet with him since he all he thought Lelouch had were Shinigami Eyes.

Boomstick: Yeah, but unfortunately for Light, Lelouch had a few cards he didn’t know about hidden up his sleeves. Light may be smart, but he had no idea that Lelouch had a Geass. And even if Ryuk did somehow know about it, he wasn’t going to tell Light about it, because that’s not part of the game, similar to how he wouldn’t tell Light L’s real name.

Wiz: Yes, Ryuk chose to take the role of a spectator rather than an actual ally of Light. Sure, he would help Light out if he gave him a direct order, most of the time anyway, but he wouldn’t provide Light with such game-changing information. Even if he would be willing to tell him, doing so could ultimately save Light’s life, which, in return, would cost Ryuk his. He could, however, inform Light of whether Lelouch had any weapons on him or cameras hidden anywhere, which Light would naturally take a precaution against. But Ryuk confirmed that there weren’t any, Light felt safe enough to come out to meet Lelouch.

Boomstick: But even if Ryuk was willing to tell Light Lelouch’s real name, he wouldn’t be able to see who Lelouch was since he was wearing that mask, which meant that Light actually did need to meet him in person since Lelouch wasn’t dumb enough to leave himself completely vulnerable before they met. So just like he did with Near, once he thought he had figured out Lelouch’s plan and had victory in the bag, Light came out to deliver what he thought would be the killing blow.

Wiz: With as smart as Light was, he would most likely theorize that out of the students in the yearbook that Lelouch, being the Student Council Vice President, would be likely candidate for Zero. But while he wouldn’t be able to prove this until they actually met, he would keep Lelouch’s face in mind, and memorize his name, along with the names and faces of any other likely candidates for Zero. So naturally he would recognize Lelouch’s face once he took off his mask, along with the name that went with his picture from the yearbook.

Boomstick: So for all Light knew, he had a list of names to write down, and just needed a face to go with it. With such an advantage, it would be worth the risk to come out of hiding and meet Lelouch, especially once he had Ryuk check to make sure the area was safe. And once he saw Lelouch’s face and recognized him from the yearbook, Light pretty much had everything he needed to kill him… Buuuut, there was just one problem. Lelouch had been living as Lelouch Lamperouge for over 7 years. So even though Light now knew Lelouch’s face and had a name for him from the yearbook, it wouldn’t do him any good.

Wiz: As we’ve seen before, writing down an alias in the Death Note doesn’t work. It must be the person’s real and full name. And while Lelouch wouldn’t know that Light killed people with a Death Note, and would most likely assume it was a kind of Geass, he would still know that Kira needed a person’s real name. As such, he would be able to fool Light by using the false name he had been using since his banishment. Not only would Light have no way of knowing that this name was fake, there would be no reason to doubt it, especially when he had the evidence of it in the school yearbook Lelouch pointed him in the direction of.

Boomstick: And with as arrogant as Light was, he would think he had victory in the bag, especially with how Lelouch was offering him a partnership. To be honest, Lelouch did offer him a pretty good deal in suggesting a team-up, and Light wouldn’t really have any reason to doubt it. As far as he knew, everything was going his way, and he could kill Lelouch at any time once he saw his face.

Wiz: This, however, was all a ploy. In making Light believe he held the advantage, it was in fact Lelouch who had deceived Light. And while he may have genuinely considered a partnership, he could always use his Geass on Light once he had him within range. But once he realized that he couldn’t recruit Light, especially after learning how Light was killing people, and that he tried to kill him, he was able to order Light to take his own life while remaining safe from the Death Note’s power thanks to his alias. And with as arrogant as Light was, he wouldn’t be able to resist a final brag to Lelouch, just as he did with L, Near, and others, which gave Lelouch the opportunity to order Light to take his own life.

Boomstick: Seems that even in the world of Geass, Light’s not going to get his wish to rule.

Wiz: The winner is Lelouch.

Lightintro

Wiz: These two live in a world full of chaos and villainy, and mysterious new powers give them the ability to change everything.

Boomstick: However, if these two mastermind aliases ever took each other on in a battle of wits, who would remain victorious?

Wiz: Let’s find out who’s king will fall first.

Boomstick: He’s Wiz, and I’m Boomstick.

Wiz: And it’s our job to analyze their weapons, armor, and skills to find out who would win… A DEATH BATTLE!

Lelouch commands you in DEATH BATTLE![]

Wiz: Welcome to Britannia. This offset of the British empire of old is a global superpower, owning all around one-third of the world, including Japan.

Boomstick: Japan? You mean Area 11? After being taken over by the vastly superior military power of Britannia, Japan became Area 11, and it’s citizens? Elevens.

Wiz: Elevens have been discriminated against for years, and wars between races have been rampant since the colonization. However, this is all old news to Lelouch Lamperouge.

Boomstick: Lelouch attends school in Area 11, and sees injustices around him every single day, but never acts on his desire to change it all. That is until he saves a mysterious girl in a terrorist car accident, and obtains a new power. Spooky!

Wiz: This power? Geass. The Power of Absolute Obedience. With this new skill, Lelouch Lamperouge was able to revert to his true self, Lelouch vi Britannia. Zero.

  • Info:
    • Name: Lelouch vi Britannia (Lelouch Lamperouge at school)
    • Titles: Zero, 98th Emperor of Britannia
    • Age: 18
    • Born: Dec. 5, 1999
    • Power: Geass
    • What do you mean you’re at soup?

Boomstick: Wait wait wait, vi Britannia?? As in he’s part of the Britannian royal family?

Wiz: Yes. Cast out by his father following the death of his mother, Lelouch went into hiding with his sister Nunnally under the name Lamperouge, but Geass gave Lelouch the ability to take his role as a leader in the rising rebellion.

Boomstick: Gathering forces from japanese rebels using massive fuckin’ mechs called Nightmare Frames, Lelouch formed a group known as the Black Knights under the name “Zero.”

Wiz: Soon, Zero became a threat to the worldwide Britannian Empire, and that’s thanks to Lelouch’s unexplainable abilities.

Boomstick: That Geass is a powerful force, able to command anyone he makes eye contact with to follow his orders immediately, and strive to do them without fail. Seemingly, the effected person will do his command best they can, though not everything is possible.

Wiz: Additionally, Lelouch can only use Geass on a person once. This was a rule Lelouch discovered early, and he’s learned to word his commands to maximize the effects of his commands. Additionally, Lelouch lost control over when his Geass activates, though he receives a set of contact lenses to negate this later on.

Boomstick: That’s only possible because of Lelouch’s intelligence. The dude’s a genius.

Wiz: That may seem like a blanket statement, but it’s true. Lelouch has led the Black Knights in many successful battles against the technologically superior Britannian Army. He’s outsmarted the greatest military minds in his universe, and he even managed to predict exactly what Prince Schneizel would say in a recording. How!??

Boomstick: Eventually, all of those victories led him to his father, and after defeating him with the power of his Geass, Lelouch took his rightful place on the throne as the 98th Emperor of the Holy Britannian Empire. He became a devil.

Wiz: Lelouch would be one of the most cruel emperors in Britannian history, just about colonizing the whole world, and causing massive wars against the united states of Japan, which HE started!

Boomstick: At the end of it all, he was this close to executing his allies, and becoming the most hated man in all of history. Of course, then he was killed! By… Zero??

Wiz: Well, not quite Zero. Under that mask is Suzaku, Lelouch’s childhood best friend and brief Rival. See, this was Lelouch’s plan the whole time. He would become the most hated man in history, and then bring the whole world together in his death.

Boomstick: So he convinced his best friend to take on his old identity, and then died for world peace? Thats… Sad. Really sad.

Wiz: Well, lets not get too sad for him, he did use his Geass to cause wars that murdered trillions of innocents.

Boomstick: Yeah, he did do that. But he also saved the world, so was he a bad guy at all?

Wiz: Was he?

Boomstick: Shit! Now I’m thinking about it too much! Was he right or wrong!??

Wiz: Well, no matter what opinion you have of his actions, Lelouch caused unrepairable damage to the history of the world, and his reign will be remembered forever. Long live Zero. Death to Lelouch.

Light is 3 steps ahead of DEATH BATTLE![]

Boomstick: Back in the caveman days, when you killed a man with a sharp rock, nobody did a thing. So when we made society a thing, we gradually realized that killing people was not okay, and some other stuff too.

Wiz: However, justice is not perfect, andl likely not absolute. After all, if it was, then there would be no crime. At least, that’s what 17 year old Light Yagami thinks. He finds the justice system of his world a poisoned game of right and wrong, never truly fixing the wicked world he inhabits.

Boomstick: So, what would happen when a teenager with an extremist idea of justice obtains a magical notebook that kills people? I’m sure it’ll be- Oh my god, he’s killed so many!

Wiz: This is the Death Note, and Light Yagami plans to use it to become god.

  • Info:
    • Name: Light Yagami
    • Titles: Kira
    • Age: 17 (23 post-timeskip)
    • Born: February 28, 1986
    • Power: Death Note
    • No, his last name isn’t Turner

Boomstick: This bad-boy notebook is simple at first. Light Yagami can write someone's name in the notebook while thinking of their face, and they die. Not a bad ability if I do say so myself.

Wiz: Of course, it’s not that simple. Light can write down the cause of death as well, and these can be manipulative of the target’s actions as well. Light would begin using this power to kill thousands of criminals and clear the population of it’s “filth.”

Boomstick: His followers called him “Kira” and Light begun forming the world as it’s new god of death. Fitting, seeing as that’s where he got the book. This guy, Ryuk, is a Shinigami, or God of Death. These fellows kill humans in their Death Notes every day, but Ryuk dropped his into the human world.

Wiz: You may be wondering, why would a God of Death drop one of the most deadly weapons in human history down to the land of the living?

Boomstick: Because… He was bored.

Wiz: Either way, Light is the only one who can see Ryuk, though anyone who touches the notebook can see him too.

Boomstick: Good thing Light just so happens to be the most paranoid man on the planet! This guy rigged his desk to explode if anyone but him opens a secret compartment containing the note, he has taken every measure to make sure he is clear of suspicion.

Wiz: Light is truly a genius at his age, shown best by his rivalry with L. L is a super-detective able to crack the toughest cases, and Light consistently threw L for a loop.

Boomstick: These two guys would play some of the most complicated mental warfare anyone has ever fought, and while L had the police force and their resources on his hands, Light had an almost religious knowledge of the Death Note’s rules.

Wiz: Light can write a cause of death without a name, and as long as a name is eventually writen, it will happpen. Light can take pages out of the note and use them just as the normal notebook would be used.

Boomstick: As long as Light can see a name and a face, he can kill someone just about any way he wants. Of course, if he can’t get a real name from someone, he’s kinda toast.

Wiz: He does have a backup option, those being the Shinigami Eyes. He can give up half his lifespan to see the name of the person he looks at, as well as their lifespan. Of course, Light doesn’t ever accept this offer, seeing as he needs to live a full and healthy life as god of the new world.

Boomstick: For a while, that may well be the case. Light manages to outsmart and kill L as well as set up the death of another Shinigami. He managed to take L’s place and convince the entire police force that he was actively fighting against himself. How???

Wiz: Light is simply a master manipulator and Genuis at heart. Of course, he was eventually overthrown by Near, a successor to L. In an unpopular twist, Light’s plan had failed.

Boomstick: He died as he lived, with a massive body count to his name going in the trillions. Funny enough, it was actually Ryuk that wrote his name down in the end.

Wiz: Light Yagami left an undeniable legacy, and an effect on the world that would never falter. Boomstick: As long as there was hope for Kira’ return, follows would wait in the thousands. Waiting for the god of the new world to rise.

Pre-DEATH BATTLE![]

Wiz: Alright the combatants are set and we've run the data through all possibilities.

Boomstick: It's time for a DEATH BATTLE!!

(We cut to Light Yagami, sitting at his desk, writing in his notebook, and looking out the window. He smiles.)

Light (Inner Monologue): Everything is going just as I’ve planned it. Now that L is gone, not even th Britannian empire can stop me now. I’ll rid this world of it’s filth… As the god of the new world, I must!

Reporter: As police look into this latest string of murders, they-

(The screen begins to glitch out, and Light’s attention is grabed. Soon, it is hacked, and a video of Zero, and the Black Knights, all disguised, stand. Light seems shocked.)

Zero: Citizens of Britannia! This is a nation wide broadcast hack, coming to you from us, the Black Knights!

Light (Inner Monologue): What a joke, the Black Knights. You think your rebellion can change the world? Only I can. You’re just children, playing with toys you should have never been given.

Zero: While we still fight for the freedom of Elevens across the globe, we will soon be taking on a new threat. You. Kira.

(Light stands up and looks at the screen outside, shocked.)

Zero: Your justice is not justice at all. It is evil. Killing criminals is never the way to do things, and is a senseless waste of lives! You will be taken down, not by Britannia, but by us!

Light: Huh!?

Zero: Expect to fall soon enough, Kira. This has been Zero, and good night.

(The screen outside goes dark, and Light is left stunned. He is shaking, not in fear, but anger.)

Light (Inner Monologue): So, you think you’re a big shot, huh? You think you can do anything to me? Huh? Well, bring it on, Zero. I’ll crush you, and your “Black Knights”!

(We cut to in front of a camera, in Black Knight headquarters. Zero flaps his cape out, and turns to walk out of the room, but someone stops him.)

Kallen: Hey, Zero!

(Zero turns his head to see Kallen behind him.)

Kallen: Are you even sure you can beat this guy? Kira?

(Zero stands still for a few moments, and then fully turns to face the Black Knights.)

Zero: This killer is a global outcry. His murders of criminals will one day come against us. If we do not deal with Kira now, there will be no Black Knights left! This is decisive action! This is…

(Flash to Light in his room.)

Light: This is…

(The two are shown in a split, eye to eye.)

Zero/Light: Justice!

(Go back to Zero, and Kallen is seemingly on board. As he walks away aand back to his room, he looks around to see C.C. is nowhere to be seen. He signs, then takes off his helmet, revealing Lelouch.)

Lelouch: Kira… I wonder who you really are. Once I find that out, there will be nothing left to defeating you. You’re unlike any other threat I’ve faced.

(Lelouch smiles.)

Lelouch: A worthy challenge.

(We cut to Light Yagami in the open, in a cafe. He is seemingly on his laptop, searching for something to do with Homework. However, he is really searching for suspects of the Black Knights. He manages to find a social page for Ohgi, and compares his face to one of the faces in the video that Zero broadcast.)

Light (Inner Monologue): A match. This guy’s face is pretty distinct, and tracking him down was easy. It’s one tiny thread, one little thing that’ll bring me to this Zero…

(Light types out more on his computer, and soon the bell of the cafe rings. He peers over to his right, and Lelouch walks in, in a school uniform. Lelouch sees Light, on his computer, and doesn’t think much of it. As he walks over, he sits down. On a table near Light.)

(Light seems aware and conscious of Lelouch, but in a similar way he is to everyone else in the Cafe. Light takes out a page of the Dead Note, and begins writing something down.)

(Lelouch seems to stare down Light as he does this.)

Lelouch (Inner Monologue): There’s no way this guy is normal. He’s studying an article seemingly, and writing down notes. But theirs plenty wrong with that. First of all, it’s January 3rd, and testing season just ended. This guy has no reason to study this aggressively. And he’s writing with a single page. Why doesn’t he have a notebook. I could be overanalyzing, but there’s something fishy going on…

(Light Yagami, while writing, looks at Lelouch with a side-eye.)

Light (Inner Monologue): This guy who is staring at me, he might be it. I came to this Cafe for research for a reason. I’ve dotted down local social hotspots in areas where Black Knight Activity is high. Here in Area 11, things are at their most substantial. There’s no way Zero is anything less than a genius, and knowing my habits, a cafe is the perfect place to get some alone time. This was all a big bet, a bet that him and I aren’t so different. My studying is strange, isn’t it? Exam season just ended, there’s no reason to be studying now. Of course, a normal person wouldn’t find this strange at all, and just pass it off, but this guy here is staring at me, suspicious. He realizes something it wrong with what I’m doing, which means he may be related to the Black Knights. For now, I’ll simply offer a normal response to his suspicioin.

(Light raises his head in a seemingly innocent voice, and looks at Lelouch.)

Light: I’m sorry, is there something you want?

Lelouch (Inner Monologue): He noticed me, but his tone is coy. Too coy. No way that’s real. I’ll play it off, but I want to be closer to this guy. (Spoken) Oh, well I see you’re studying. I’m just… I’m a little behind this week on my exam material. I guess I was trying to sneak a peek at your notes…

(Light seems shocked by this, but nods his head.)

Light: Well, as much as I’d like to help you, I’m a bit of an honors student. No offense, but you would need to be in a pretty high bar of academics to know what this is.

Lelouch: Oh, not at all. Anything would help.

(In a bold move, Lelouch stands up, and walks to Light’s table. He sits down right in front of Light, and takes out a board.)

Lelouch: You say you’re smart, right?

(Light seems confused.)

Light (Inner Monologue): What is going on with this guy? He’s taking something out, and I can’t be sure what it is… I’ll stay on guard.

(Lelouch fully unvails his set, that being a Chess board. He places pieces in their orders, and puts the white pieces on Light’s end. Light begins smirking.)

Light: A game of Chess? Are you trying to test me or something?

Lelouch: Well, it’s rare to find someone who boasts about being an honors student like that. We are usually pretty reserved.

Light: Implying you are one?

Lelouch: Yeah, pretty much. So, you interested in playing?

(Light smirks again, and moves D2 Pawn to D4. Lelouch smiles and moves D7 Pawn to D5. They continue playing. Pawn to C4, Pawn to C6, Knight to F3, Knight to F6.)

Light: Who to I have the pleasure of playing against?

Lelouch: Lelouch Lamperouge. You?

Light: Light Yagami. Light is spelled like “Tsuki.”

Lelouch: You’re an Eleven?

Light: And you’re Britannian. Is there an issue?

Lelouch: Not at all.

(They stare each other down, and keep playing. Knight to C3, Pawn to E6, Pawn to E3, Knight to D7, and so on. They seemingly play with perfect accuracy, and without wasting a second.)

Lelouch: You’re good.

(Bishop D3, Pawn takes Pawn C4, Bishop takes Pawn C4.)

Light: Not bad yourself.

(Pawn B5, Bishop D3, Bishop D6, and they both Castle.)

Lelouch: I have a question if you would indulge me.

(Queen C2, Bishop B7, Pawn A3, Rook C8)

Light: Hit me.

(Pawn A3, Rook C8, Knight G5, Pawn C5.)

Lelouch: What do you think of Kira?

(Light isn’t physically phased by this. Knight H7, Knight G4, Pawn F4, Pawn takes Pawn D4.)

Light (Inner Monologue): He’s asking me about Kira? No doubt. This guy is a black knight. Not only that, he’s pretty good at Chess. He’s got me backed into a corner, and his offense is strong… (Spoken) Well, I think he’s a criminal and a serial killer. We need to capture him.

(Pawn take Pawn D4, Bishop C5, Bishop E2, Knight E5. Light is backing his best pieces away from Lelouch’s offense. Lelouch takes note of this.)

Lelouch: Really? Because personally I see him as a saivor.

Light: You do? How come?

Lelouch: Well, he’s eliminating criminals, right? That’s pretty good. In my eyes, he’s real justice.

Light: Really now?

Lelouch: Yup.

(Light stares down Lelouch. They both don’t move a piece.)

Lelouch: It’s your turn, you know.

Light: I know…

(Lelouch is confused, but Light smirks menacingly. Suddenly, in his earpiece, Lelouch hears something Light can’t hear.

Black Knight: Zero?? Zero?!! Ohgi is down! Kira got him!

(Lelouch is visibly shocked, and Light’s smile widens. Bishop takes Knight G4.)

Light: Is something wrong?

Lelouch: N-No… No. It’s just… I was startled is all.

Light: Startled about what?

Lelouch: Well, you see… It’s just…

(Light is confused, and Lelouch is now the one smiling.)

Lelouch: I’m… Zero.

(Light looks wide-eyed. Bishop takes Pawn D4. Light slightly panics in the chess game. King to H1, Knight takes Pawn G4, Knight takes Pawn F8, Pawn F5. Lelouch is advancing, and Light is going back.)

Light: You are..? How curious…

(Light begins writing down something on a piece of paper. Lelouch looks at him suspiciously.)

Lelouch: What are you writing?

Light: Oh, nothing much.

(Light finished writing, Knight to G6, Queen to F6, Pawn to H3, Queen takes Knight G6. Light is slightly sweating, but he feels like he knows he’s won.)

Light: I’m just writing down your name for later, when I report you to the police. You’re a criminal, after all.

(Queen E2, Queen H5. Light is now pressuring Lelouch. Lelouch, looks down at the page.)

Lelouch: H-Have you now?

Light: Yes. Also, one more thing.

(Queen to D3)

Light: I am Kira!

(Light looks at his watch, and Lelouch looks frightened, and Light begins bracing himself for Lelouch’s death. However, after a few seconds, nothing happens. Lelouch’s fake expression of shock quickly reverts back, and he grabs his Bishop. Bishop to E3. Checkmate.)

Lelouch: Just so you know… My name isn’t actually Lelouch Lamperouge…

(Light is stunned, and Lelouch begins to grab at his left eye, taking off the contact lens.)

Lelouch: It’s Lelouch vi Britannia, and I command you! Begone from this world!

(We see into Light’s pupils, as his brain is rewired to match Lelouch’s command. His expression goes blank, and his eyes red. He then looks down at the page of the Death Note he brought out, grabs the pen, and stabs himself in the head. He falls face flat on the table, dead.)

(Lelouch grins, and grabs the page of the note. He studies it for a moment.)

Lelouch: A page that can kill? Facinating.

(Lelouch turns around at the sight of a large shadow, and sees Ryuk, floating there, grinning.)

Ryuk: Oh good. I was just about look for a replacement…

(We cut to black and the words “Death Note: How to Use It II: The human who uses this note can neither go to Heaven nor Hell.)

Conclusion[]

Boomstick: Ack! A battle between two nerds! My biggest weakness!

Wiz: This matchup may seem complicated on the surface, but becomes pretty clear cut when you look at the facts.

Boomstick: Light did have one major advantage, that being that the Death Note was the wayyy more versitile weapon than Geass. The Death Note can manipulate someone’s actions for 28 days without needing to be in front of them.

Wiz: Even with how creative Lelouch gets with his Geass, it required looking someone in the eye to do it. Thee Death Note has no range.

Boomstick: Of course, Lelouch managed to outclass Light in nearly every other way.

Wiz: We could talk about how Lelouch has an entire army by his side, and a knightmare frame, and would destroy Light in a 1-on-1 combat situation, but given the kinds of powers we are dealing with here, all of that isn’t really relevant.

Boomstick: Only one thing really matters in this fight, who could outsmart who. Which genius was more intelligent.

Wiz: This is a layered question with thousands of answers, but let’s take a look at the facts. Light Yagami is a soulless, heartless, monster of the man. He is perfectly willing to take down anyone who gets in his way, no matter what.

Boomstick: Lelouch is, unfortunately, a human. At a point, he completely left his army at the most crucial battle in history at that moment, just to save his sister.

Wiz: However, given his actions to that exact same sister later on, and feats far beyond Light’s scope, it would be hard to argue he isn’t superior. Light was outsmarting police and a worldwise investigation. Lelouch was a commander who led armies. There’s a difference in the sheer scale of their warfare.

Boomstick: Sure, Light was able to outsmart those of similar intellect to him, like L, but Lelouch is consistently able to perform the same situational mind games Light does while also commanding a frickin’ revolution!

Wiz: Lelouch, with his Geass, and supplies, and his vast intellect, would eventually overwhelm Light.

Boomstick: And it’s not like Lelouch couldn’t figure out Light was Kira, and vice versa. They were both at least on par with L in intelligence, who figured out Light was Kira within 30 days of the investigation.

Wiz: Although Light had an increadible mind and an ability worthy of challenging Geass, Lelouch was just the right breed of man to take him down.

Boomstick: The memory of Kira will live… For a Lelong time.

Wiz: The winner is Lelouch vi Britannia
