Leia Organa (later Leia Organa Solo) is one of the main protagonists of the original Star Wars trilogy.

History
Leia Organa was born Leia Amidala Skywalker, the daughter of Jedi Knight Anakin Skywalker and Padmé Amidala of Naboo. Her mother died soon after giving birth to her and her brother, Luke, and to keep her hidden from her father, she was placed in the care of Bail Organa, of the planet Alderaan, who adopted her as his own daughter.
At a young age, Leia, like her adoptive father, began working to assist those rebelling against the newly-declared Galactic Empire. While tracing the stolen plans for the Death Star, the Empire’s new super-weapon, Grand Moff Tarkin and Darth Vader took Leia prisoner. Neither knew about Leia’s relationship to Vader as his daughter.
After the destruction of Alderaan by the Death Star, Leia was helped to escape by Han Solo, Chewbacca and Luke Skywalker. At this time, Leia and Luke did not know that they were related as twins. At this time the four heroes actively joined the Rebellion, and fought Emperor Palpatine on many worlds.
While rescuing Han Solo from captivity in the domain of the crime lord, Jabba the Hutt, Leia killed Jabba by strangling him with a length of chain. This earned her the sobriquet, Huttslayer.
After the Battle of Endor, and the death of Emperor Palpatine, Leia and Han Solo were married, and had a son, Ben Solo. Ben was strong in the Force, so Leia and Han sent him to be trained by his uncle Luke as a Jedi Knight. Ben rebelled from his Jedi training, took the name Kylo Ren, and killed the other Jedi students. Leia and Han, both blaming themselves for what happened, separated from each other.
