History[]

Marinette Dupain-Cheng is the daughter of Tom Dupain and Sabine Cheng, who run a bakery in Paris, France. She attends the Collège Françoise Dupont, a public secondary school, where she has many friends, with her best friend being Alya Césaire. She does, however, have frequent run-ins with the haughty, Chloé Bourgeois, the daughter of the mayor of Paris.

Unknown to Marinette, a 186-year-old Chinese man named, Master Fu, was travelling around Paris looking for suitable hosts for the Black Cat and Ladybug Miraculouses. Master Fu decided that Marinette was a perfect match for the Ladybug Miraculous, and slipped it into her purse.

Marinette’s Miraculous looks like an earring, and is accompanied by a Kwami named Tikki. This creature looks like a red toy bug that can talk and fly, and she grants Marinette her Ladybug powers. No one else can know that Tikki exists, so Marinette tends to keep her in her purse.

Death Battle Info[]

Appearance[]

Marinette is half-Chinese and half-French. She has blue eyes, and medium-length, deep blue hair, which she normally wears in two pony tails. Her preferred “civilian” outfit is a white t-shirt, a charcoal-gray jacket, pink Capri pants, light pink ballet shoes and a light pink purse. She wears earrings that appear black when Tikki is not in them.

Her Ladybug outfit is a red, skin-tight red bodysuit, dotted with large black dots. She wears her yo-yo around her waist, held in place with its string, and a black-dotter red mask on her face. As Tikki is now in her earrings, they appear red, with five black dots in a quincunx pattern.

Civilian[]

Powers and Abilities[]

Marinette is a fairly typical young woman. She has some training in fencing, but most of all she is resourceful, and has tricked akumatized individuals, even saving Cat Noir once from the villain Antibug.

As Ladybug[]

Powers and Abilities[]

Ladybug’s powers all come from her Miraculous, the token that links her to her Kwami. Should her earrings come off, for any reason, she immediately reverts to being simply Marinette. Her powers include:

  • Lucky Charm - By far, her greatest powers is the power of the Lucky Charm. When she activates this power, she is given an unlikely object that will enable her to defeat her opponent. All she has to do is look around, and she will see how she can use the item. Using (not just activating) the Lucky Charm drains her Miraculous’s power, causing her to revert to being just Marinette Dupain-Cheng after five minutes, so she must be judicious in its use.
  • Enhanced strength - She can lift heavy objects, once using her yo-yo to pull a car off of Alya Césaire.
  • Martial artist - Ladybug is an excellent fighter, able to defeat opponents with her bare hands.
  • Superhuman speed - She can run very fast, and even leap up onto buildings, or run along vertical walls.
  • Superhuman dexterity - She is able to perform superhuman feats of gymnastic prowess.
  • Superhuman durability - She can withstand powerful attacks, and not suffer any noticeable damage.
  • Superhuman stamina - She can run over great distances without getting tired, or even winded.
  • Alternate forms - If a Kwami is fed a specific formula, it allows it to transform its holder into an alternate form. Marinette baked hers into seven macarons that allow Tikki to transform into seven different forms. So far, only three forms are known:
    • Aqua form - This form gives Ladybug the ability to breathe underwater and enhanced swimming capabilities.
    • Ice form - This form gives her the ability to handle extremely low temperatures and move freely and quickly on ice.
    • Space form - This form allows Ladybug to fly.
  • Alternate transformations - After becoming the Guardian of the Miracle Box, Ladybug can summon the other Miraculouses inside it from her yo-yo and unify their powers into her transformation.
    • Fox Miraculous - Mirage, the power of illusion, and a flute weapon.
    • Turtle Miraculous - Shell-ter, the ability to create a force field, and a shield weapon.
    • Bee Miraculous - Venom, the power to paralyze, and a spinning top weapon.
    • Mouse Miraculous - Multitude, the power to become mouse-sized clones, and a jump rope weapon. Each clone can use a separate Miraculous.
    • Dragon Miraculous - Wind, Water, and Lightning Dragon, the ability to command three different elements, and a sword weapon.
    • Snake Miraculous - Second Chance, the ability to infinitely reset five minutes of time, and a lyre weapon.
    • Monkey Miraculous - Uproar, the ability to make enemies' powers malfunction, and a staff weapon.
    • Horse Miraculous - Voyage, the ability to make portals to anywhere that the user can visualize, and a horseshoe weapon.
    • Pig Miraculous - Present, the ability to show someone their heart's desire, and a tambourine weapon.
    • Rabbit Miraculous - Burrow, the ability to travel through time and space, and an umbrella weapon.
    • Tiger Miraculous - Clout, the ability to punch an opponent really, really hard, and a bolas weapon.
    • Ox Miraculous - Resistance, the ability to become immune to superpowers, and a sledgehammer weapon.
    • Goat Miraculous - Genesis, the ability to create a non-magical object (though it can still be futuristic) with a paintbrush weapon.
    • Rooster Miraculous - Sublimation, the ability to grant oneself any single ability they can imagine, so long as it isn't the same as, nor interferes with, another Kwami's power, and a quill weapon.
    • Dog Miraculous - Fetch, the ability to teleport an object or person hit with a ball weapon.
  • Kwamis - The Kwamis themselves can use the powers granted by their respective Miraculous if Marinette needs them to. However, they have much more power than a human wielding the Miraculous, so while they can to greater damage to the enemy than Ladybug can, any time a Kwami uses their powers without a holder will cause a city-wide disaster. Use of Miraculous Ladybug can undo said disasters.
    • Tikki, the Ladybug Kwami - Her Lucky Charm creates far more than necessary, possibly creating an object bigger than the planet.
    • Trixx, the Fox Kwami - His Mirages create visual distortions on things he didn't mean to affect as a side effect.
    • Kaalki, the Horse Kwami - Her Voyage creates more portals than necessary, which then drag objects into them and scatter them across the solar system.
    • Sass, the Snake Kwami - While he can Second Chance to any marker in time, doing so causes fragments of the past to appear in the present.

Weapons and Equipment[]

  • Yo-yo - Her yo-yo can be used as a long-range bludgeoning weapon, grappling hook, and shield. It has shown the ability to shred a hole through a bus while used defensively.

Feats and Strengths[]

  • Took a direct hit from a cannonball and suffered no injury.
  • Has never been completely akumatised.

Faults and Weaknesses[]

  • If she is somehow silenced, she can't user her Lucky Charm or Miraculous Ladybug powers, both of which require her to call out a command word. Presumably, Marinette would not be able to transform into Ladybug if she cannot call out her command, "Tikki, spots on!"
  • If one of her earrings comes off, she'll slowly revert back to Marinette. If both of her earrings come off, she'll immediately revert back to Marinette.
  • Miraculous users are immune to mundane physical damage, but can still be knocked around by attacks heavier than they are.
  • Magic will harm a Miraculous user the same way it would harm anyone else.
  • Miraculous users can still suffer from fatigue or suffocation.
  • Unifying too many Miraculouses drains the user's stamina. Marinette can only unify three at once without any side effects.
  • If the Miraculous itself is damaged, the user's lifeforce begins to drain with every use. If a Miraculous is destroyed, the Kwami loses its ability to interact with the physical world, and its power can no longer be used.
  • During the events of Volpina (S1E26) she nearly surrendered her Miraculous to the villain when she used an illusion to show that Adrien Agreste's life was at stake.
