Description[]
DC vs. Outlast! Two large savage asylum inmates clash viciously in a battle to the death!
Interlude[]
Wiz: Asylums, the early precursors of modern psychiatric hospitals... These are pretty common settings in the realm of horror, usually housing many terrifying maniacs.
Boomstick: And often on the large side. No offense to myself, of course.
Wiz: Like Killer Croc, Arkham Asylum's cannibal croc.
Boomstick: And Chris Walker, Mount Massive Asylum's "Strongfat" head-ripper.
Wiz: For this particular matchup we've chosen Killer Croc's original Pre/Post-Crisis incarnation prior to the Hush virus, as that matches Chris the best. Many users tend to pit Chris against the Arkhamverse Killer Croc due to having similar roles and spooky auras in their respective games, buuut...
Boomstick: That version is eleven feet tall! Come on, people, we don't do stomps here...
Wiz: Well, sometimes we do. Actually... a lot of the time...
Boomstick: ANYWAY! He's Wiz and I'm Boomstick.
Wiz: And it's our job to analyze their weapons, armor, and skills to find out who would win... a Death Battle.
Killer Croc[]
Wiz: Waylon Jones came to be in a slum from Tampa, Florida. He was born with a medical condition...
Boomstick: Also sometimes called a skin disease or a mutation, to add insult to injury if you ask me.
Wiz: This condition caused him to grow progressively more like a crocodile, hence the name "Croc" his bullies came up with. His mother died in childbirth and his father abandoned him, so Waylon was raised by his aunt, but her persistent drinking prevented him from growing up in an ideal household. As a teenager, Waylon had no friends, and was the object of ridicule of those who knew him, and when he lashed out in anger and accidentally killed someone, he was sent to prison.
Boomstick: By the time he got paroled and reached adulthood, Waylon found work wrestling alligators, being billed as "Killer Croc". Even then, his strength level was greatly beyond that of a normal human.
Wiz: Croc soon realized that there was more money to be made in crime, so he set out to become Gotham's most powerful underground figure, where he got to show off how much of a powerhouse he was.
Boomstick: And he got close, but Batman foiled each of his plans and locked him in Arkham several times, and after one too many beatings, accidents and electro-shock therapies until Killer Croc essentially went insane, having visions and nightmares related to Batman and many others mocking him in his dreams.
Wiz: Nevermind his condition making things worse for him mentally. Each defeat only made him worse and after a short encounter with the villain Bane, who broke his arm, he snapped, turning into a cannibalistic rampaging wild man with no regard for human life, while still keeping some of his humanity... to a certain degree.
Boomstick: So sure enough, he's pretty dumb from this point forward, but he's still one helluva fighter. And hardly human, anymore...
Wiz: With a sense of smell that can track down prey across a city, sufficient strength to break the backs of alligators and smash or tear through concrete and the ability to hold his breath for hours, incredible bulletproof skin as well as immunity to the awful stench of sewer gases or tear gas, even with his diminished intelligence Killer Croc remained one of Batman's sturdiest enemies.
Boomstick: Apparently his phyiology is completely reptilian thanks to his condition. What does the script say... Wait a second... He has a reptilian physiology, with a... THREE-CHAMBERED HEART?! This allows him to... appear dead and drowned with no pulse or respiration at 22.2 body temperature and further allows him to survive weeks or even months essentially buried under rubble... Holy crap.
Wiz: On top of this resilience and in spite of his lackluster intelligence which has reduced him to typically speaking in broken English and third person, Croc still retains all of his past skill and experience against a myriad of foes, he himself once saying that no one was better in the squared ring than him, to which there is some credence as even Wonder Woman respects his skill enough train with him.
Boomstick: Yeah, Croc during this point in his career definitely jobbed a bit... but he was certainly no loser.
Wiz: It's almost surprising to think Batman has beaten him as much as he has, even if Croc's more of a thug than anything else, compared to Batman's considerably superior skill and arsenal.
Boomstick: A lot of the time it's what people call Plot-Induced Stupidity, I think.
Wiz: That's right, Boomstick.
Boomstick: Even other patients in Arkham Asylum fear Killer Croc, as he is just as likely to eat them as he is to help them break out.
Wiz: Feared by Gothamites and other maniacs alike, Croc may not be Gotham's top dog anymore, but he's now one of its spookiest bogeymen and legends.
Chris Walker[]
Wiz: Not much is known about Chris Walker's past, but prior to being incarcerated at Mount Massive, Walker's career started off as a military policeman in the United States Army and as an Iraq War veteran. After his return from Afghanistan, he and other war veterans were committed to Spindletop Psychotherapy Clinic in Hattin, Texas due to their recently developed Posttraumatic stress disorder, being treated with dream therapy, guided by hypnosis, to subconsciously release their trauma.
Boomstick: Eventually, Walker became a Murkoff employee and worked as a surveillance officer at Spindletop to survey the therapy sessions, but at some point, Walker went bonkers, leading him to kill three inmates, all war veterans.
Wiz: The discovered bodies were brutally torn apart with each victim missing their head, leading people to assume that the killer kept them as trophies. Walker is shown to be well aware of his actions, although his main reason behind the killings remains uncertain.
Boomstick: Him going crazy from PTSD seems like a good enough reason, I think.
Wiz: Walker appeared to have a rather plain, child-like mind, conversing with simple expressions and incomplete sentences. Due to his stature and inhuman strength he was nicknamed "Strongfat" by his colleagues, a name which he wasn't a big fan of.
Boomstick: Can relate, kinda. Maybe it wouldn't push me into killing people, but... Well, maybe.
Wiz: Chris was eventually captured by two Murkoff agents after they discovered Walker was behind the killings, but instead of being surrendered to the police, Chris was instead committed to Mount Massive Asylum for experimentation, specifically experimentation for the nanite-based super soldier program "Project Walrider".
Boomstick: All you Outlast players know how the rest of the story goes. Random journalist gets into the asylum shortly after the nanobot ghost breaks out every patient and kills most of the guys inside and the big fat guy chases after you every now and then, scaring the crap out of everyone who has ever played this damn game.
Wiz: Chris is a large and imposing figure as well as a capable fighter, great strength complimented by some judo he was taught during his time as Military Police, on top of his military experience during the Iraq War, even if we aren't aware of how events played out for him during that conflict.
Boomstick: The big guy knows judo?! Not sure if that would've made him less or much scarier in the game...
Wiz: Extreme anxiety during his time as a patient has led to him mutilating his own skin, as seen with the injuries in the forehead, nose and mouth areas, but he maintains a good sense of smell and absurd endurance.
Boomstick: Chris should be comparable if not superior to patient 921, who managed to overcome enough tranquilizers to put down a hockey team. It's hard to translate that into anything specific, but it does show Chris' absurd endurance.
Wiz: Which isn't due to him becoming a patient for the Morphogenic Engine, since he could be shot in the face in the prequel comics and still shrug it off as if he hadn't been shot at all.
Boomstick: And let's not forget about what makes Chris infamous: His terrifying strength.
Wiz: Be it due to training or freakish genetics, Chris boasts superhuman strength that allows him to easily tear off human heads with one arm, which requires an estimated 5600 newtons or 572 kg of force, maybe more since Chris technically pulls the body off the head in the game. With both arms, Chris can theoretically easily lift over a tonne.
Boomstick: Dang, give this man a world record already!
Wiz: True enough, he is superior to all overhead press records that have been recorded, which are usually around 200 kg. On top of the potential force of ripping arms off from the shoulder joint, which Chris has done and requires 20 tonnes of force, Chris may very well be the strongest man in his world.
Boomstick: So he's at least five times stronger than all those buff dudes on TV?
Wiz: If not more! It doesn't appear like he puts that much effort in any of his superhuman feats of strength, and he's got quite a few...
Boomstick: Hot damn!
Wiz: He can bash down locked jail cell dors, mutilate people with ease and survive being tossed around by the Walrider, whose strength dwarfs Chris' by an unknown but considerable extent. He himself can send people flying across corridors and streets without much difficulty, and none of this is due to the Morphogenic Engine, as we see that in the prequel comics Chris was just as strong and durable as before he got into the asylum. He can leap from a few dozen feet without issue, as well. All-around, Chris is incredibly tough for what is a relatively normal human being, even for an Iraq War veteran.
Boomstick: He even shrugs off being tackled by a speeding car and easily ignores getting shot in the face! Are we sure this guy is human?
Wiz: At this point? Hard to say... The Morphogenic Engine did screw up his mind even more, leading to a very intimidating force of lunacy and murder with not much that one could identify as human... Other than the fact that he's killing the other patients in the asylum so the Walrider doesn't get another host, a trace of his humanity can be seen in the fact that he refers to some of his victims as "little pig", the same as his childhood toy. There is some sympathy to be had with Chris Walker...
Boomstick: ...But this is definitely one maniac you wouldn't want getting grabbed by!
Pre-Death Battle[]
Wiz: Alright, the combatants are set! We've run the data through all possibilities!
Boomstick: It's time for a DEATH BATTLE!
Death Battle[]
In mid-September of 2013, a transfer is made between Arkham Asylum and Mount Massive Asylum, as inmate Waylon Jones is accepted into the latter instituation for the Morphogenic Engine. That same night, another patient used for the Morphogenic Engine becomes one with the Walrider and wreaks havoc in the facility. Most inmates manage to escape into other sections of the asylum, killing each other or the doctors who tormented them.
Two inmates in particular manage to get out but stay in the facility for their own reasons. Killer Croc starts attacking the Variants and eats them to satiate his hunger and feral mind. Chris Walker skulks from the shadows, catching inmates and killing them before the Walrider can use them as another host.
Chris by coincidence stumbles upon Croc in a room he has turned into his den of sorts, filled with corpses and the stench of death. Chris tries to be sneaky on this newcomer, but even with this room's many scents, Croc smells him coming, and Chris consciously charges against his opponent instead.
Chris Walker: "Little pig!"
Croc quickly turned around, roaring at Chris.
Killer Croc: "Who're you calling little, you fat ugly bastard?"
Croc lunges at Chris in response, and noticing this is no ordinary opponent and unlike any other Variant he's slaughtered, uses some of his own judo skills, grabbing Croc mid-jump by the shirt and pinning him down. But placing himself on top of Croc is not a smart idea, as Croc has enough strength to simply lift him off himself and kick him out of the room.
There are other Variants present, and both are momentarily distracted by their primal and militaristic urges, as Croc eviscerates and chomps down on one while Chris decapitates another. They both lock eyes after doing so, while other nearby Variants escape.
Chris can notice a lot of things in the eyes of this animal. He's cautious about his appearance but overall doesn't care that he looks so different, instead he focuses on the combined rage and sadness in the creature's eyes. If Chris' mind wasn't so far gone, he might even feel pity and let him be, but he cannot allow a potential host for the Walrider to live.
Killer Croc: "All Croc wanted was to be left alone! But you keep caging Croc, from one Arkham zoo to the next! You're all the real monsters here!"
Having said this, Croc let out a roar and escaped to the Administration Block, with a few lights still operating but much of the area being in complete darkness. But Chris wasn't slow and had been able to follow Croc there.
Even in complete darkness, Chris could see relatively well, and Croc's bloody stench wasn't hard to catch. He was hidden, but Chris knew he was extremely close.
Chris Walker: "You're here, ain't cha? Little pig..."
A couple of reptilian red eyes lit up behind him, and Chris was bitten on the shoulder by Croc's powerful jaws and razor-sharp teeth. Chris grunted in pain for a second, before grabbing Croc by the head and lifting him off himself, tossing him away. A good chunk of skin on Chris' right shoulder had been removed, but Chris had the endurance to continue fighting even with that injury. It was going to take a lot more to bring him down.
The two clashed, holding each other in a wrestling lock up, almost as if the two were the most ferocious sumo wrestlers in the world, with neither being capable of truly moving the other. But Croc didn't just have strength on his side, and used his claws to sink deeply into Chris' muscles, forcing him to open that lock.
Following up with his claws once more, this time digging and cutting through Chris' chest and gut, then a jab and an uppercut, Chris fell unconscious the floor after being on the receiving end of Croc's more unorthodox, unfamiliar and less wrestling-based skill. But even after this, he started regaining consciousness again, and Croc was getting increasingly more furious.
Grabbing Chris by the leg, the angered Croc tossed him up into the storey above, smashing through the wooden walls on top of the bulletproof glass, leading to Chris' trophy room. Croc quickly climbed up there as Chris started getting back up.
Croc noticed one of Chris' victims, a member of the tactical division sent to stop the Variants, Stephenson, impaled in an iron pole but still alive.
Stephenson: "Please... help me..."
Killer Croc: "Ha! You wish... You're Croc's meal after I'm done with him..."
Chris got back up in a rage, lunging at Croc.
Chris Walker: "No! We have to contain it!"
Killer Croc: "No one's containing Croc! Least of all you, fat boy."
With this last remark, Croc smacked Chris back down into the ground, and almost just as quickly Chris began to get back up. Croc stopped him from doing so, kicking the back of his knee and choking the knelt down Chris with both arms. To keep him anchored on the floor, he stomped on Chris' thigh, and the latter could not get back up. He was starting to pant, showing signs of exhaustion and fear for the first time in a long time.
Killer Croc: "You like ripping heads, don't you, you fat pig? Get ready to join your little collection, then!"
Using his powerful jaws, Croc bit down on Chris' head, sinking deep into his skull. Using both of his arms wrapped around his neck and the leg keeping Chris on the ground, he proceeded to tear off Chris' entire head and neck area.
Chucking Chris' remains aside, Croc proceeded to start eating all the rotten meat in Chris' trophy room, beginning with Stephenson.
Results[]
Boomstick: Damn, that was brutal! And to think we put Chris against one of the weaker incarnations of Killer Croc...
Wiz: Indeed, against just about any other incarnation, things would've been even worse for Walker.
Boomstick: And somehow people wanted Chris to fight against the Arkhamverse Croc?!
Wiz: Chris may have still been able to fight off the Arkhamverse incarnation, kinda, but the size and strength difference is a lot more glaring there. All Walker could've done was lift up and throw Croc a bit, given his maximum weight of over 850 pounds or over 385 kg, but again, that's all he could've managed. He would've never been able to manage Croc's feats of one-shotting Batman, tearing through metal and concrete or tanking huge explosions.
Boomstick: Damn, Chris could lift up that big monster with just one arm? That doesn't make sense...
Wiz: Not exactly, but when it came to lifting, pulling or wrestling, that's an area where Waylon and Chris were more or less evenly matched, as both can lift over a tonne fairly easily, though that's mostly theoretical on Chris' part. If we go with the arm tearing, he might even be superior.
Boomstick: Similarly, even though Chris took down a squadron of soldiers wielding M4A1's, it's unknown and never implied (so thus unlikely) that he was ever shot by one of these, especially since we don't see any injuries and unlike with Croc, bullets definitely go through his skin. It's more likely that he snuck up on the soldiers one by one using superior stealth and training.
Wiz: His stealth was more or less useless against Croc's senses and due to Walker's chains and breathing, but his training did aid him in battle somewhat. He never uses judo against the other Variants likely due to them being much weaker, but seeing how he can still think militaristically in spite of his insanity, against someone like Croc it's likely for him to use those moves to even the odds.
Boomstick: But Croc had skill of his own plus experience against other powerful fighters, superior stealth, bulletproof skin and claws and jaws that could definitely put the hurt on Walker. Even with that incredible endurance of his, he couldn't keep on taking damage forever.
Wiz: Croc at his best can tear and punch through metal and concrete while Chris at his best has only been able to smash through wood and reinforced glass. More often than not, Chris was bound to lose this one.
Boomstick: Looks like Chris got walked on by Croc!
Wiz: The winner is Killer Croc.
