History[]
In the comics, Dave Lizewski was a high school comic fan who decided one day to become a superhero since nobody else had become one. After his first try left him broken and needing to have metal plates put in his head, his second attempt made him a sensation overnight. After discovering other heroes like Hit-Girl and Big Daddy who were more professional, Dave met hero Red Mist and saved a dog from a burning building. Hit-Girl and Big Daddy recruited Dave and Red Mist to help them take down the New York Mob, but Red Mist turned out to be the Mob Boss' son. Big Daddy was killed and Kick-Ass and Hit-Girl took down the mob leader, inspiring others to go out and be heroes in real life.
Several months later, Dave was recruited into the group Justice Forever. Though their first break-up of the criminal underground was successful, Red Mist returned now calling himself a new name and recruiting real-life supervillains, inverting what Dave began. They assaulted Dave's crush, got Dave's father arrested and promptly killed, and revealed Dave's identity on the internet. After beginning a massacre in Times Square, Kick-Ass, Hit-Girl, and the remaining heroes banded together and crippled Red Mist. However, Hit-Girl and many of the other heroes were arrested by the corrupt NYPD Police Detective Vic Gigante, using the superheroes as scapegoats.
Despite being outlawed, Kick-Ass managed to graduate high school and began a relationship with a woman named Valarie. Despite trying to free Hit-Girl, Dave spent more and more time with Valarie than he did being a hero. Eventually, Hit-Girl managed to get freed herself with a reformed Red Mist with Kick-Ass saving her. The two ended Red Mist's uncle who used the opportunity to take over New York's crime families and revealed Vic's true intentions. With things calm, Dave retired feeling his job was done, deciding to become a police officer. In Dave's own words, he "traded one uniform for another".
Ten years later, the world changed around Dave. There were people with real superpowers, time travelers, billionaire geniuses, and everything that had inspired him to become a real-life superhero. Yet, Dave still felt unfulfilled. Like a piece of him was still missing out. Eventually, the President asked everyone who had ever been a hero to come and help with an emergency. Dave became Kick-Ass once more but missed the helicopter to take him to the rendezvous point. As it turns out, it was an ambush set up by the secret supervillain team known as The Fraternity and its leader; Wesley Gibson. They attempted to wipe out any chances of superheroes but thanks to Hit-Girl utilizing Time Travel technology, she was able to warn and save everyone from being killed. As the battle commenced, Dave met with Cordelia Moonstone of the Magic Order who were forbidden from interfering since the events were not magical-based. However, Dave pointed out that Wesley had formed a pact with Diabolos the Sorcerer who was a magical threat. Cordelia called upon heroes from other worlds and granted Dave superpowers. Together, the heroes defeated Diabolos, Wesley, and the Fraternity. In the aftermath, Dave was recruited into the superhero rescue team The Ambassadors becoming the superhero representative of America.
