Nathaniel Richards is a scientist from the 31st Century, a descendant of Reed Richards who discovered the existence of the Multiverse with its myriad of branching timelines and realities. Nathaniel met with alternate versions of himself and exchanged ideas with them, but some were not as benign as one's abuse of their time traveling technology messed up his planet's timeline and turned it into a war-torn wasteland. Hostility among the variants eventually exploded into a Multiversal War where one variant became known as Kang the Conqueror.
