Kaname Date VS Takayuki Yagami is a what-if Death Battle by Unbacked0. It features Kaname Date from the AI: The Somnium Files series and Takayuki Yagami from the Judgement/Yakuza/Like a Dragon series in a battle.

AI: The Somnium Files VS Judgement! A battle between two detectives known for their quick wit and martial skills comes to blows.
Introduction[]
Wiz: Throughout fiction, the detective is an archetype that transcends time as heroes of justice, from Sherlock Holmes to Batman.
Boomstick: And these two are really good at beating up people, like Batman.
Wiz: They sure can...
Boomstick: Kaname Date, lead detective behind the Cyclops Serial Killings...
Wiz: And Takayuki Yagami, lead detective behind the Mole serial killings.
Boomstick: He's Wiz, and I'm Boomstick.
Wiz: And it's our job to analyze their weapons, armour and skills to find out who would win... a Death Battle.
Kaname Date[]
Wiz: Let me take you on a journey, one day, you get a text message, calling you to an abandoned amusement park...
Boomstick: And you lost me, I wouldn't go to a non-abandoned amusement park, even if you did pay me.
Wiz:... And while you're searching for who called you, you find a dead body strapped to a horse on a merry-go-round, a woman with one of her eyes missing. This would be the first death associated with the New Cyclops Serial Killings.
Boomstick: Why is it called the "cyclops" serial kills? She had two eyes. You don't call a cyclops a noclops when you take its eye out.
Wiz: Because the police, especially fictional ones, are massive dorks.
Boomstick: Well, after one of these bodies was found, more and more started popping up. Japan needed a detective to solve the case and luckily for them, they had the best and most perverted detective on the case, Kaname Date.
Background:

Wiz: Agent Date isn't just a detective, he's a special member of the Advanced Brain Investigation Squad, or A.B.I.S. for short, a special squad of the Tokyo Police who are able to investigate people by using a special machine to enter a person's dream, get information out of them and leave.
Boomstick: While Date's wild job and copious levels of "reading material" would be fun to talk about, we're here to talk about how much ass he can kick.
Wiz: Well, being a highly trained officer of the law, Date is a skilled martial artist, being able to instantly dispatch multiple mercenaries and yakuza thugs as easily as he breathes.
Boomstick: You mean "Like a Dragon" thugs, right.
Wiz: No, no I do not...
Boomstick: Oh...
Wiz: Anyways, like all true police officers, Date is carrying a firearm with him at all times. In his case, the Evolver handgun.
Evolver:
- Kaname Date's personal handgun.
- Uses electromagnetism to shoot bullets.
- Date can accurately hit an opponent from multiple metres away.
- Has special bullets such as wire, stun, sphere, flashbang and fire bullets.
Boomstick: Allow me, the Evolver is a special sidearm. While it may look small, the barrel can extend and instead of using gunpowder, it uses electricity and magnets to shoot bullets like a handheld railgun. The Evolver has many, many bullets, from your standard life-ending bullets to special bullets like wire bullets, spherical bullets, stun bullets and wacky shit like fire bullets that are harmless at first but can set off a massive explosion with powder or Date can just shoot a flashbang grenade at someone. The Evolver is both a problem started and solver.
Wiz: While the Evolver is a powerful weapon that has gotten Date out of various fights where he was outgunned, Date's most useful piece of equipment is his partner, the AI, Aiba.
Aiba:
- Short for AI-Ball
- Is an AI that lives in Date's prosthetic left eye.
- Allows Date to see further and with night, x-ray and thermal vision.
- Will automatically scan the environment for other living beings with a mixture of x-ray and thermal vision.
- Can set up an aiming reticle to help Date aim.
- Is able to use its highly advanced computing to predict what will happen next and the best way to take down an opponent.
- Can hack into most electrical devices.
- Can emit a short electrical shock powerful enough to knock someone out.
- Can self-destruct on command.
Wiz: Aiba is Date's personal computer, partner and literal left eye. With Aiba, Date's sight is increased dramatically, allowing him to see tens of metres away and with a mixture of night vision, x-ray vision and thermal vision, as well as Aiba's own vast intellect, it becomes practically impossible to ever sneak up on Date, even when invisible.
Boomstick: And believe it or not, being able to see better can really help you shoot better, Aiba's even able to set up a reticle if Date can't hit a shot on his own and can even tell Date what to shoot at to get the best shot on the bad guy he's fighting.
Wiz: Aiba also acts as a strategist for Date, calculating all of the possibilities and directing Date around, some of these plans include making Date throw a pipe and shoot into it so he can hit an opponent out of reach or have Date shoot a wire bullet into the air to act as a lightning rod to electrocute all of Date's pursuers. She's able to communicate all of her plans to Date through a special communicator which no one but Date and others with A.I. Balls can hear as if it were telepathy.
Boomstick: Even without Aiba, Date's one tough bastard and especially with his greatest power of all.
Wiz: Please don't talk about it...
Boomstick: Date's excitement.
"Excited Date"
- Activated when Date becomes "excited" by NSFW materials or what Date is tricked into thinking is NSFW material.
- Increases Date's reaction speed by 3.6 times its normal speed.
- Allows Date to run at superhuman speeds.
- Increases Date's strength dramatically.
Wiz: Ugh... Yes... When Date gets "excited", he enters a state of mind where he activates a "sink or swim" state, increasing his reaction speed by 3.6 times what he normally is and can allow him to run like a perverted Flash, moving so fast that the rain around him looks to not being moving, requiring Date to move at least Mach 5.
Boomstick: And that's not all, Date also gets way, WAY stronger, letting him beat down entire hordes of riot officers who were stomping him just seconds earlier.
Feats:
- Knocked out two mercenaries and two Yakuza thugs with ease.
- Overpowered a group of riot officers while excited.
- Fought on par with someone using his body.
- Dodged gunfire multiple times.
- While excited, Date ran so fast that the rain wasn't even moving by comparison.
- Was able to shoot the pin off of a fire extinguisher from several metres away while it was hurtling through the air.
- Survive being attacked multiple times by Mizuki.
- Survive a massive thermite explosion and many large boulders falling on him.
Wiz: Even without being excited, Date is able to beat down Yakuza thugs and mercenaries with ease and battle his way through hordes of mind-controlled soldiers.
Boomstick: Date was so tough that he was able to survive a massive explosion followed up with large rocks falling on him and was almost completely fine.
Wiz: Date is so strong that he was able to take multiple hits from Mizuki, a girl with superhuman strength that allows her to punch down trees, generate shockwaves with a punch and lift and throw giant pieces of metal. Or well, Date's other body anyway.
Boomstick: Okay, here we go... See Date here, that's not actually Date. I mean he is but he's not...
Wiz: Date was originally a police officer who, in order to help solve the original Cyclops Serial Killings, had to switch minds with the infamous Yakuza leader, Rohan Kumakura. As Rohan, Date would be captured by the real Cyclops Serial Killer, Saito Sejima. Then he'd swap minds with Date in Rohan and that's how Date ended up in a different body.
Boomstick: God this is so complicated...
Wiz: Eventually, Saito would enact his revenge against Date and would swap bodies repeatedly, killing those close to Date to end up back in his original body. Both Date and Saito ended up in their original bodies and Saito was ready to kill everyone else important to Date.
Boomstick: And Saito in Date's, I mean, "his" body took a beating from the superhuman fourteen-year-old?
Wiz: Right.
Boomstick: And Date was able to fight on par with... Himself...
Wiz: And now you understand.
Weaknesses:
- The Evolver only has so many bullets.
- Aiba can be shut down if electrically shocked.
- Date can only enter his "excited" mode with NSFW material.
Boomstick: Well, weird freaky body swap shit aside, Date isn't exactly perfect. An electrical shock will short out Aiba and she's very, very useful in a fight.
Wiz: Also, while Date is a skilled fighter, he can still be beaten, either by sheer numbers or by an opponent who is more skilled than he is.
Boomstick: Still, considering what he's been up against, I'm sure he'll be fine whenever he's dealing with any other weird serial killer bullshit.
Takayuki Yagami[]
Wiz: Within the sprawling city of Tokyo, there exists a small adult entertainment district named Kamurocho.
Boomstick: A.K.A. the worst place in Japan to visit for your vacation. Seriously, I can't take a step without a group of random street thugs who want to beat me up for my wallet. Do you think it's how I'm dressed or is it something I said?
Wiz: Absolutely both of those. Boomstick's terrible vacation story aside, Kamurocho is a magnet for the criminal underbelly of Japan, the Japanese Yakuza and Asian mafias profit off of those unfortunate enough to get their attention.
Boomstick: And if that wasn't bad enough, there's a serial killer going around taking both of your eyeballs and dumping you at the side of the street.
Wiz: Yet despite all of the horrendous crimes being committed on every street corner, there are a few who have the special ability of not being total scumbags. One of these few taking up residence on the second floor of Building One on Nakamichi Street, the owner of the Yagami Detective Agency; Takayuki Yagami.
Background:
- Real/Former Name: Takayuki Yagami
- Age: 38
- Height: 185cm/6'1".
- Director of the Yagami Detective Agency.
- Solved two sets of serial killings.
- Is way too old to be riding a skateboard.
Boomstick: Yagami wasn't your average detective slash ass kicker but he was your average protagonist so both of her parents were murdered one day and he ran away from home. Yagami would do all the fun things that not having parents would let you do, like working at a bar by lying about his age and getting into back-alley street brawls.
Wiz: One of these fights would catch the attention of Mitsugu Matsugane, the head of the Matsugane Yakuza Family. Taking pity on the young boy, he would adopt and raise him into the decent human being he grew into, even offering him a chance to meet Ryuzo Genda and work for the Genda Law Office.
'Boomstick: All was working out well for Yagami until he defended someone in court who was then found guilty of burning a house down with someone inside... Yeesh...
Wiz: This failure in judgement devastated Yagami and turned him from the life of a defense attorney and into the life of a detective at the Yagami Detective agency so he could personally investigate and help those around him, even if he basically had to act as a hired goon against less than pleasant individuals.
Boomstick: And since this was "everyone wants to beat you up" Kamurocho, Yagami could only survive that type of work by learning how to fight.

Boomstick: And the "I just want to punch you" Boxer Style.
Wiz: Okay, that's technically accurate but boxing is a lot more than just punching people.
*Wiz Coughs*
Wiz: Yagami is a master of a special type of energy that people in his world can tap into called Heat. Heat allows its user to amplify their own stats and use special moves that take advantage of the environment around them or weapons they have on hand.
Boomstick: Hey Wiz, what is Heat exactly?
Wiz: I... Actually don't know...
Boomstick: Is it like adrenaline where you get stronger by being happier?
Wiz: That's not how adrenaline works, but I... Guess that could be how Heat works...
Boomstick: So can he become stronger by reading porn?
Wiz: Oh come on, we just had enough of that topic in the last section.

Boomstick: Like everyone going through a mid-life crisis, Yagami always carries a drone and a skateboard on him at all times. He also has tons of food and energy drinks that heal and restore his Heat, somehow.
Wiz: Yagami also has a large amount of equipment such as shin guards, belts and shirts which can increase his defence and attack potency, however, the strongest and most versatile part of his arsenal is his Extracts.
Boomstick: Extracts are drinks that Yagami chugs in the middle of a fight in order to get some wild abilities. Some of them just make Yagami stronger and faster but he also has some insane crap.
Wiz: Yagami has Extracts that allow him to make a sword out of electricity, throw bombs that release blinding smoke, smoke that makes someone charmed by Yagami for thirty seconds and a tub of liquid that makes anyone who steps on it slip over.
Boomstick: And those are the more sane things, Yagami can call down bolts of lightning, make orbs of light that circle around Yagami, let Yagami shoot out a massive beam and even let Yagami force choke someone. What the Hell's in these drinks?
Wiz: Weird Yakuza drugs made of bugs and energy drinks.
Boomstick: Gross...
Feats:
- Dodged handgun fire.
- Is able to launch multiple people several feet with a punch easily.
- Can destroy large objects like motorcycles.
- Defeated Hangman, Shin Amon and Juza Amon.
- Regularly beats up groups of 50+ trained fighters on his own.
Boomstick: Yagami is built super tough, he's strong enough to lift up a motorcycle and smash it to pieces with ease, dodge shots from a handgun from several metres away and he can beat up like a hundred people on his own in an hour.
Wiz: But Yagami's best displays of strength can be seen when fighting against people like Hangman and the members of the Amon Clan, all of which are powerful foes that even give the Legendary Dragon of Dojima trouble when fighting them.
Boomstick: And Kiryu's no punk either, he's able to survive explosions that blow up the top of a skyscraper and dodge explosion, gunfire and rockets.
Wiz: As well as take punches from people like Majima and Saejima who are able to break through concrete floors and boulders respectively. Also, Kiryu is as fast as Tanimura who outran an explosion. And Yagami should be somewhat comparable to him and everyone previously mentioned by extension.
Weaknesses:
- Is still human
- Most of his healing items can't heal critical blows like being stabbed or shot
- Only has so many Extracts
- Effects of Extracts only last so long
- Carries no weapons on hand
Boomstick: In the end, while Yagami is a super tough badass, he's still only a dude, one gunshot or stab to the wrong part of his body can seriously cripple or even straight up kill him.
Wiz: And while Yagami carries many healing items, most of them can't heal deep wounds.
Boomstick: Also, Yagami can only carry so many Extracts and they only last so long. There's also the fact that Yagami, despite essentially being a ninja whose good at using any weapon, he doesn't carry any of them.
Wiz: Yagami may have failed in the past as a defence attorney, but he still stands back up to do what he thinks is right.
Boomstick: With a heart of silver and an eye for the truth, if you're a shady criminal looking to cause some trouble, the Yagami Detective Agency is on your trail.
Pre-Fight[]
Wiz: Alright the combatants are set, and we've run the data through all possibilities. Let's end this debate once and for all.
Boomstick: It's time for a DEATH BATTLEEEEE!!!
Fight[]
The scene opens in a shady back alley in Kamurocho filled with junk and is lit by the bright neon lights from the street outside of the alley. In the alley, Kaname Date is standing there alone, reading a "dirty magazine" with his left eye firmly closed.
Aiba: Date, I must ask why you are doing... Any of this.
Aiba telepathically communicates with Date, irritated by how much Date was squeezing his eyes closed.
Date: I'm on break so I get to do whatever I want until I get a call back from HQ.
Date snapped back in his mind as he continued to read.
Aiba: Well there are two things wrong with what you are doing. A) I have X-ray vision, I can see through your eyelid. And B) What if someone finds you and reports you to the police? You do realise the type of individuals that have been arrested in Kamurocho match your description, right?
Aiba warned Date, half expecting some to try and arrest him.
Date: Yeesh, Aiba, relax. This place is a dump of an entertainment district, I'll be the last thing anyone should be concerned with.
Date argued back before continuing to read his dirty magazine.
While this is happening, on the street outside of the alley, Takayuki Yagami is walking down the street, clearly irritated by his current assignment.
Yagami: "I can't believe have to deal with another public pervert, I know this place is a magnet for weird criminals but can't they be ordinary weird criminals?"
Yagami sighs, thinking back on all the other odd perverts he's had to fight and arrest in the past. While looking around for his target, he turns his head towards the back alley and sees the back of a dimly lit figure who had their head pointing down, clearly reading something.
Yagami had a somewhat good idea of what the person was reading.
Yagami: "I don't believe this..."
He grunted before walking into the back alley, stopping a few metres away from Date before speaking up.
Yagami: "Hey there, mind telling me what you're doing?"
Almost instantly, Date turns to meet the voice, making sure to quickly try and hide the dirty magazine in the back of his coat's collar. Date turns to see a man, around the same age as him wearing a leather jacket and jeans.
Date: This guy reeks of a mid-life crisis.
Date immediately commented on his attire.
Aiba: I do not believe you have any right to judge another person's choice of clothing.
Aiba commented back, causing Date to get slightly annoyed before speaking back to Yagami.
Date: "I... Ummm... I'm a police officer... I'm just reading a case file."
Date came up with the first lie he could think of, hoping it would get Yagami to go away. Instead, Yagami walked closer, making Date nervous.
Yagami: "Oh, really? Because I was a former defence attorney, and I know what case files look like..."
Yagami stops speaking before quickly stepping forward and reaching toward Date's head. Date quickly steps to the left of Yagami's arm, however, Yagami got what he needed. He held the dirty magazine that he just grabbed in front of Date.
Yagami: "And I'm pretty sure this isn't a case file."
Yagami boldly said as he held the magazine to Date's face.
Date: "Crap..."
Aiba: Nice going, Mr. Shady Police Officer.
Date: "N-Now, I can explain that..."
Date said as he stepped forward, reaching out for the magazine, however, Yagami held it away from him.
Yagami: "Yeah, I bet you can. I'm sure the police would love to hear your story."
Aiba: Date, I recommend doing something, if you are apprehended, then you be investigated and I will be found out. And I'm sure you remember I am a classified secret.
Aiba mentally communicated with Date whose head with coming up with various ways he could get out of this before choosing the most basic one.
Date: "Dammit..."
Date grunted out before he quickly turned on his feet and started running further into the alley.
Yagami: "Hey!"
Yagami seeing this, immediately gave chase, starting to run before pulling out his skateboard and riding it after Date.
Aiba: "Is this really your best plan?"
Aiba chastised Date as he ran, Yagami following behind him.
Date: Hey, all I have to do is wait for him to try and punch me, then I can legally beat him up, take my porn back and pretend that this never happened.
While Date was communicating with Aiba, Yagami was gaining on Date and suddenly got off of his skateboard and tackled Date, intending to hit him to the ground. Instead, Date stayed on his feet before quickly pushing himself and Yagami to the wall on the left, slamming Yagami's arm against it, making him let go and trip to the ground.
Date turned to face Yagami who got to his feet.
Date: "That wasn't smart, now I've got a good case for self-defence, you know that right?"
Date said as he stood in front of Yagami.
Yagami: "Heh, self-defence doesn't matter when I can easily beat you down."
Yagami laughed off, waiting for Date to respond.
Date: "I'd like to see you try."
The two of them put up their fists before they walked toward each other, the second they were in reach, Date and Yagami both threw and overhead punch, both hitting each other's faces.
Fight!
Both Date and Yagami took the other's punch to their face and were sent reeling before they started to recover. Yagami was the first to recover and quickly threw out an uppercut to Date's chin, knocking him back.
Date shook his head before running towards Yagami. Yagami goes to throw a punch but Date dukes to the left and hooks his arms around Yagami's arm before turning around and throwing him over Date's shoulder, slamming him to the concrete back first.
Before Date could capitalise on this advantage, Yagami quickly kicked at both of Date's shins with both of his legs, causing Date to stumble forward. As he fell, Yagami quickly rolled to Date's side and pulled him into a chokehold, wrapping his arms around Date's neck and under his armpit forcing the arm up, preventing it from bending down to hit Yagami's head.
As he was being choked out, Date used his free arm to repeatedly elbow Yagami's side in an attempt to get him to let go, however, it wasn't working as Yagami tightened his grip.
Aiba: It appears I will have to step in.
Aiba's voice called out. After she spoke, Aiba rolled out of Date's eye socket and onto one of Yagami's arms, the one pressed against Date's neck while using Date's head as a blind spot. Aiba, while standing on Yagami's wrist, would crouch before her body began to spark, releasing an intense electrical shock.
This was enough to make Yagami let go, as Yagami's arm retracted, Aiba leapt back into Date's eye.
Aiba: You can thank me later.
Date: How about I thank you now?
Date and Aiba spoke mentally to each other as Date got back to his feet. Yagami also stood back up but he was holding the wrist that was just electrocuted.
Yagami: "I'm sorry but where are you even carrying a taser, in your mouth?"
Yagami said in bafflement, completely unaware how Date used a taser-like device while both of his arms were unarmed and unable to do anything.
Date: "Well, you know what they say, eyes on the prize."
Date said as he pointed up at his left eye, hinting at Aiba, not that Yagami knew that there was anything special about Date's prosthetic eye.
While Date was boasting, Yagami saw his skateboard near his feet out of the corner of his eye and with a swift movement of his leg, kicked it at Date's head.
Date quickly caught it, however, Yagami used the distraction and Date's vision being obscured to run up and attack him.
What Yagami didn't know was that one of Date's eyes had x-ray vision and the ability to warn Date.
Aiba: Date, he's about to kick your stomach.
After hearing this, Date moved the skateboard down to block the kick. After Yagami's foot pressed against the flat part of the board, Date tilted the board, making Yagami's momentum carry him forward as Date moved to the left, standing there as Yagami moved past him before Date put his hand on the back of Yagami head, grabbing his messy hair and slamming him against the nearby wall face first.
Capitalising on the opportunity, Date grabbed one of Yagami's arms and pulled it behind his back, restraining him in place.
Date: "So are you going to give up or do I have to break your arm?"
Date threatened Yagami who had a bloody nose after it was pressed against the wall.
Without responding, Yagami slipped his right foot around Date's right ankle before lifting his and Date's foot up, making them both fall to one knee. Yagami took the chance to use his free arm to reach around and grab the top of Date's head and slam it against Yagami's shoulder as he fell, causing an impact on Date's chin when their knees hit the ground.
Date let go of Yagami's arm and Yagami rolled away before changing his stance from what he was using previously, standing sideways while pointing one of his shoulders toward Date as his head faced him while both of his hands curled up into fists, ready to punch him.
Yagami moved toward Date, never dropping his stance for a second. Date raised his arms up to shoulder height, ready for whatever Yagami was going to try.
In an instant, Yagami punched with his left and then right arms. Date managed to block both of them with his arms, however, he didn't block the next attack. Yagami swiftly turned around and lowered his upper body to the ground, using the support to kick the gap between Date's blocking arms and right into his stomach, causing Date to wheeze as the air was pressed out of his body. Date would clutch his stomach with both of his arms.
Before Date could even think about recovering, Yagami would stand back up and face Date before raising his leg above Date's head and bringing it down on top of it, launching Date down to the concrete floor. Date tried to get back up but Yagami delivered a swift kick to the side of Date's face, making him spin across the ground and away from Yagami.
Date pushed himself onto his back before sitting back up.
Aiba: Date, I believe you have "bitten off more than you can chew". He's beating you... Badly.
Aiba mentally spoke, noticing the vast distance in terms of skill the two had.
Date: Yeah I noticed.
He sarcastically spoke back, still feeling the pain from the hits to his head and stomach.
Aiba: Might I suggest that you use your Evolver now?
Aiba said, figuring it to be the only way to win since a straight fistfight was going poorly.
Date: "Yeah, I can roll with that."
Date whispered to himself, reaching into the pocket where he kept his gun.
Yagami ran toward Date but suddenly stopped when he saw Date pull out what looked to be a revolver.
Yagami: "You're packing heat?!"
Yagami exclaimed in surprise, not expecting Date to have a weapon on his person.
Date: "Well, yeah. I'm a cop. I'm A.B.I.S. Secret Investigator Kaname Date."
Date said before the Evolver extended and he shot Yagami in the leg with a stun round, making a small isolated burst of electricity spark from Yagami's leg, making him fall to the ground.
Yagami: "Shit!"
Yagami yelped in pain as he rolled to the side and behind a dumpster to use as cover.
While Yagami was recovering from being shot, Date got back to his feet and started to slowly walk towards Yagami's location, using his X-Ray vision with Aiba to make sure Yagami wasn't trying to do anything, all the while, Date kept his gun pointed at the general location of Yagami.
Yagami: This is insane, I'm not beating this dude in a fair fight. Good thing, I don't play fair either.
Yagami thought to himself as he slipped his hand into his pocket, reached for one of his many Extracts and clutched it tight. Date was able to see what Yagami was doing and paused for a moment.
Date: Is he grabbing a drink?
Date was confused as to what exactly his opponent was doing.
Aiba: I recommend using caution, it could be a can of pepper spray or worse, some disguised explosive. Might I recommend using live ammunition? As cold as it might sound, this battle may result in either one of your deaths.
After having this mental conversation, Date continued to slowly step forward, ready to shoot if he saw Yagami do anything dangerous. Yagami could hear Date approaching and moved into a crouching position, ready to dodge if Date shot at him, all the while clutching onto the Extract in his pocket.
In a moment, Yagami leapt out from behind the dumpster and threw the Extract in Date's direction.
Aiba: Date, watch out!
The second Date saw the bottle flying towards him, he immediately leapt to the right to avoid it, seeing the bottle fly past him before he took another shot at Yagami. This time, Yagami was on guard and as soon as he saw Date aim his gun at him, he kept running to the other side of the alley to get behind cover again.
When Date fired his Evolver, Yagami barely managed to avoid it thanks to him already moving and being far enough from Date that he was able to move his body out of the way before the bullet could hit him.
When Yagami got into cover, Date kept an eye on him, expecting Yagami to try the same trick again. While eying Yagami's hiding location, he began to notice a gas begin to seep out from behind him.
Date: "Smoke!"
Date began to cough and close his teary eyes as he tried to deal with the smoke's effects on his body. Date tried to put his hand over his mouth but all this resulted in was him catching his spit in his hand.
Yagami was peeking out from behind his trash cover, making sure that Date was affected by the smoke before he acted. The first thing Yagami did was pull out a Staminan energy drink and quickly downed it to recover some of the damage he had taken, getting to almost peak condition aside from the wound on his leg from the stun round.
Once he was ready, Yagami leapt out and ran directly toward Date as the smoke began to blow away, allowing Yagami to get near Date without it affecting him.
Aiba: Date, hold on, I will guide you.
Aiba called out from within Date's head. As this was happening, Date used Aiba's X-ray function to see through his own eyelid at Yagami running toward him and ready to punch Date in the head. An aiming reticle formed over Yagami's shoulder and Date took only a second to raise his gun and shoot it at the reticle.
Yagami saw the bullet coming towards him but it was too late to dodge. Yagami saw the bullet embedded itself into his right shoulder before his eyes, causing him to yell in pain and clutch it with his left hand.
Yagami: "Lucky shot... But luck doesn't last long around here."
Yagami taunted before he rolled to Date's left, expecting Date to not be able to see him. Instead, Yagami saw the sight of Date's gun follow him as if Date could still perfectly see him. Date fired another shot which grazed Yagami's right arm, having only just dodged it through good luck.
Yagami: "Shoot, I've gotta deal with that gun..."
Yagami mused to himself before starting to think of a plan. Yagami quickly dashed to Date, faster than Date could aim his Evolver at Yagami, and grabbed onto his arm. Yagami then proceeded to throw Date over his shoulder, slamming him to the concrete ground while keeping his grip on Date's arm.
Then Yagami proceeded to twist Date's wrist in an attempt to make him drop the gun. Date was gritting his teeth in pain and was beginning to think that his wrist was about to be shattered. In a desperate attempt to get out, Date tilted his wrist towards Yagami's head and pulled the trigger.
The bullet missed Yagami by a few inches, however, a mixture of the sound of the gun going off and the shock of nearly being shot in the head made Yagami's grip on Date slip, allowing him to pull his arm free.
Still laying on the ground with his sore arm being freed, Date aimed his gun at Yagami and fired it again, this time aimed at Yagami's left shin. The short distance between them guaranteed that it would hit Yagami. Yagami fell down to one knee and began to clutch his bullet wound.
Now Date was standing over Yagami, pointing the Evolver at him, clearly holding the upper hand in the battle so far.
Date: "So, do you want to give up or do I have to keep going?"
Date threatened Yagami while keeping his gun aimed at him.
Instead of responding or folding at Date's threat, Yagami quickly shifted one of his legs and kicks Date's leg, making him stumble. Yagami then quickly stood up and backhanded Date's hand, making his gun fall from his hand. Date ducked down to catch his gun, however, Yagami delivered a side kick at the falling gun, hitting it before Date could catch it and launching it down the alley.
Date immediately tried to run after his gun but Yagami tackled him to the ground and walked over him, standing between Date and his Evolver.
Yagami: "Alright, it's time to get nutty."
Yagami boasted before taking a quick drink of a different Extract. As soon as he finished, an aura surrounded Yagami's body.
Before Date could take in what was happening, Yagami thrust his hand forward, shooting out a ball of energy right into Date's chest and launching him back and to the floor.
Date looked up, propping himself up with his arms.
Date: "Okay, what just happened?"
Date said aloud, his body reeling from the impact to his chest.
Aiba: I... Don't know...
Aiba responded, in shock as to what had just happened.
Yagami: "Here's another one."
Yagami said as he pulled out another Extract and went to drink it. This time Date wasn't going to let that happen again, Date quickly got to his feet and sprinted towards Yagami, intending to tackle the Extract out of his hand, however, he was too late.
Before Date could reach Yagami, Yagami formed an electrical sword from his hands and swung it towards Date. He dodged to the left, however, he was too slow and the electrical blade cut at the side of Date's arm, making it bleed fairly badly.
Yagami: "Had enough?"
Yagami boasted as he pointed the blade towards Date's face.
Date: Aiba, any plans, I kinda need a miracle now.
Date started his talk with Aiba, hoping he could get any ideas before Yagami could attack him again.
Aiba: I've been looking through surveillance cameras across the city and I know what you can use to win, Date. As for now, turn around and run as fast as possible.
After Aiba finished, Date eyed down Yagami, looking past the blade. Date slowly raised his hands up above his head, catching Yagami's attention.
Yagami: "So you've finally given..."
Before Yagami could finish, Date delivered a quick kick to Yagami's shin before turning around and running away as fast as possible.
Date: Aiba, I need directions, now.
Date mentally said as he heard Yagami following right behind him.
Aiba: Take two lefts, then a right, it's there, however, you will be cornered.
Aiba said, giving Date the bad news as he made his first left turn.
Date: Why didn't you tell me that sooner?
Date continued to run in the directions instructed, going to make the second left, Date could hear Yagami's footsteps get closer and closer as he spoke up.
Yagami: "Hey, slow down."
Yagami yelled as he ran.
In an attempt to slow Yagami down, Date kicked a trash can to his right, making it fall over behind Date and in Yagami's way. Yagami saw the trash can slowly roll towards him and made sure to leap over it, stumbling slightly when he landed but he still kept up his run. Meanwhile, Date saw a fork in the road and remembered to turn left.
Yagami took a second to look down both the left and right paths, making sure that he was still chasing Date. He saw Date a fair distance away, running down the alley with Yagami knowing what was up ahead.
Yagami: "Heh, a dead end."
Yagami continued his run after Date, this time he wasn't running as fast so he could maintain some of his stamina and making sure to take his next Extract ahead of time, not wanting Date to try to interrupt him.
As this was happening, Date made the right turn into a dead end, just as Aiba suggested.
Date: Okay, Aiba. Where's that thing you wanted me to use?
Date looked around, trying to see if there was a weapon or part of the environment he could use to his advantage. In the back alley, all he could see were various trash cans and bags as well as a dirty vending machine. Before Date could properly look, Yagami jogged close to Date.
Yagami: "You run out of back alleys to run down?"
Yagami mocked Date, thinking that he had cornered him. Date having turned around to face him, waiting for any help from Aiba.
Aiba: Date, move in front of the vending machine, now!
Date couldn't think of any reason to distrust Aiba now and did what she said, backing up until he was against the vending machine.
Aiba: You need to break into that vending machine, either with your fists or with his help.
Date: I know better than to think you're wrong on these things.
Date was more than a little confused but he trusted Aiba's plan.
Date: "Hey, what's wrong? Too scared to punch me?"
Date mocked Yagami, intending to dodge whatever crazy attack he tried.
What happened next caught Date off guard, instead of being blasted by energy or having a lightning sword swung at him, Date was being lifted into the air by an unseen force, he flailed his arms and legs to break free but it was no use. In less than a second, Yagami swung his hand down, sending Date crashing into the vending machine, breaking through the glass of the vending machine and his head leaning back to see what was inside.
Yagami: "I figured a pervert like you would what's in there, call it your last treat before you're behind bars."
Yagami mocked Date as he pulled his phone out of his pocket.
As this was happening, Date could see what was in the vending machine, a large number of adult magazines.
Date: "This is?!"
Date was in shock at what he was seeing. In a moment, he felt a surge of new strength surging through his body. Date pulled his body out of the pile of books and got to his feet.
Date: "PORNO MAG! POWER!"
Date yelled out, his body radiating a powerful aura that blew all of the books away and kick up a lot of dirt.
Yagami: "What?"
Yagami was caught off guard as he saw Date power up in a similar manner that Yagami did with his Extracts.
Getting a bad feeling about Date's sudden surge of power and fumbled in his pocket for any Extract to drink. The second Yagami pulled it out of his pocket and to his mouth, a sudden gust of wind blew past and Date was right in front of Yagami, gripping his wrist.
Date: "Yeah, I don't think so."
Date said with a smirk before swinging Yagami around and letting go, letting Yagami's body hit the wall like a limp sack. Yagami struggled to his feet, trying to think of any way to counter Date, however, before he could do so, Date moved at super speeds and delivered a powerful punch to Yagami's stomach, knocking all of the air out of his lungs and leaving him gasping for air.
Yagami: This is bad...
Yagami was practically helpless. He couldn't use any of his Extracts without lowering his guard and if he did that for even a second, Date would take the opportunity to hit Yagami with his new strength.
Yagami threw out a kick which Date blocked knocking him back a bit but not damaging him.
Yagami: If I can't be as strong as him, then I need to bring him down to my level.
Yagami thought to himself, having come up with a plan which might save him. He immediately put up his guard, bringing both of his hands to his upper body and head to block anything Date tried to throw at him, using the brick wall behind him to prevent any attacks to his back.
Date ran faster than Yagami thought was possible and tried to punch at Yagami's chest, however, Yagami's arms were in the way, making the attack only slightly damaging his arms.
Aiba: Date, he might be blocking but he's leaving very notable openings, trying aiming for his head.
Aiba's voice rang out in Date's head before he acted, making Date change his course of action.
In a flash, Date ran up to Yagami, his fists tightened as he was ready to deliver a decisive blow to his head. Just as Date was moving, Yagami's hands moved up and caught Date's fist, gripping it tight.
Yagami: Heh... Gotcha.
Yagami said with a smug look on his face, having correctly predicted Date's move, before spinning his body and slamming Date face-first against the brick wall. Not wanting to waste the chance, Yagami spun around and delivered a powerful kick to the back of Date's head, further slamming him into the wall.
Aiba: Da... Te...
Date heard Aiba's voice begin to peter out in his head. After Date pulled his head away from the wall, he moved his hand up to his prosthetic eye to check on it, noticing that it had practically shattered in his eye socket, making his eye socket bleed.
Date: "Oh, you're going to pay for that..."
Date said as he turned around and ran up to Yagami and went to punch his head again. This time Date was too fast for Yagami to counter and punched him to the ground so hard that Yagami bounced off of it and several feet away. Date moved up to him and kicked the side of Yagami's stomach like a football, launching him into another wall.
Yagami struggled up with just his legs, protecting his head with his arms until he was standing upright. Date moved up and started to wail on Yagami with his fists, trying to break through Yagami's guard so he could finish him off.
While this was happening, Yagami would deliver a sweeping kick to Date's unprotected shins with his own leg, making Date fall to the floor. Yagami took the chance to stomp on Date's face with his boot.
Date was reeling from the kick. Before he could get back up, Yagami pulled something out of his pocket and threw it down at Date, it explodes into a cloud of smoke.
While choking on the smoke, Date got back up and tried to find Yagami in the thick haze, having no clue where he was. From behind Date, Yagami snuck up behind him, wrapping his arms around Date's head and neck, choking him out.
Yagami: "Let's so you worm your way out of this!"
Yagami said as his chokehold tightened, Date trying to fight back but he could feel both his power and consciousness begin to fade. In a quick motion, Yagami twisted his arms and Date's neck to the side, instantly snapping his neck. Yagami dropped Date's body, now sure that he was dead before turning around and walking away.
Yagami: "I swear I never get normal jobs..."

Yagami is seen limping away as a magazine from the vending machine blows onto Date's face.
Boomstick: I know it might be weird for me to say this, but that was just crude and rude...
Wiz: On paper, both Yagami and Date were fairly equal matches for each other in terms of raw stats but when we closely examine these stats, the difference between them becomes quite clear.
Boomstick: Date isn't exactly a weakling since he was able to survive a bomb exploding right in front of him but Yagami scales to Kiryu who survived Majima punching through the floor of a hotel.
Wiz: While visually Date's explosion looks visually more impressive, he was standing a fair distance away from the explosion. Even using a low-end of 2 meters, the force that Date survived would only be around 0.01 tons of TNT.
Boomstick: Now how about Majima's punch.
Wiz: Well, taking into consideration the thickness of the floor, the floor's composition of marble and steel as well as how it shattered into small pieces, this single punch would equal 0.3 tons of TNT, making Yagami up to thirty times stronger and durable then Date.
Boomstick: And yes, Date wasn't at his horny peak but there's no real proof that Date would get a thirty times power boost. Speaking of, you might think Dae would be way faster since he can run like the Flash when excited...
Wiz: And you would be fairly wrong, while it does look impressive, managing to run so fast that raindrops aren't moving, however, this level of speed would only be in the hypersonic range of speed which is the same for Tanimura outrunning an explosion, meaning that when Date isn't Excited, he is slower than Yagami normally is.
Boomstick: And needless to say, Yagami beating up large hordes of goons armed with guns and swords is a far better showing than Date beating up, at most, ten guys and that's without talking about the four fighting styles that Yagami mastered to the zero that Date has.
Wiz: Date wasn't exactly helpless since a standard handgun is a deadly weapon in the Yakuza series but Yagami's Extracts could do so much that Date had no answers for.
Boomstick: And it really doesn't help that Yagami's Snake Style is designed for disarming an opponent's weapon.
Wiz: While Aiba was an incredibly powerful piece of tech, easily being able to come up with advanced strategies that could make Date last longer, she wasn't exactly impervious, she has been broken in fights before like when Sejima shot her, forcing her to shut down during an incredibly dire moment.
Boomstick: And I don't think she could come up with a way to make Date thirty times stronger.
Wiz: In the end, Yagami's raw strength and martial arts skills were too much for Date's advanced tech and blasé fighting style to handle.
Boomstick: EYE think Yagami just had his AI on the ball.

Q&A[]
Why was Yagami given Extracts? Aren't they a gameplay-only thing?
- While they only get referenced outside of gameplay once or twice, they are still a canonical part of Yagami's kit and are even used by the game's super boss.
But aren't Extracts too unrealistic for the Like a Dragon series?
- The series has pirate ghosts, assassins with canonical teleportation powers, giant flying Roombas with flamethrowers and characters that can make dragons with their Chi, and that's without talking about the skills in games with RPG combat. So no, Extracts aren't that out there.
