Description[]
They're the best friends of the main character and they have an awesome combat based monster. When these loyal friends take the stage to duel, the Earth will shake. Will Brock rock Wheeler to the core, or will Joey Wheeler's luck take the win?
Interlude[]
Nero: I think it's safe to say that Pokemon and Yu-Gi-Oh are the most iconic duel monsters franchise in history. Ash Ketchum and Yugi Muto are 2 of the most famous anime heroes of the nineties. Today their sidekicks duel, and their sidekicks are Ash and Yugi's closest friends.
Phoenix Wright: Like Joey Wheeler or Katsuya Jonouchi the fate based duelist.
Gerona: And Brock, the rock hard gym leader of Pewter City and friend to Ash Ketchum.
Nero: Before we begin let's set some rules down. The Brock we are using is from the anime and will have his anime team including Mega Steelix. We are using Joey Wheeler from the anime and manga but the most important feats are from the anime.
Phoenix: I am Phoenix and they are Nero and Gerona and together we analyze the fighters, skills, sources, abilities, feats, monsters, weaknesses, and arsenals to see who will win a Death Battle.
Brock[]
N: 10 year old trainer Ash Ketchum set out with Pikachu on a quest to become the very best like no-one ever was. And to do that he had to get to the Pokemon League, and to go there he needed gym badges. Thus, Ash challenged the Pewter City gym leader Brock, for his first badge.
Brock
- Alias: Takeshi (Japanese)
- Type Specialty: Rock but also has ground types
- Age: 15
- Height: 5'10"
- Occupation: Gym leader, Pokemon trainer, Pokemon Breeder, Aspiring Doctor
- Great chef, camp maker, but strikes out with the ladies
P: Initially Ash Ketchum struggled and even lost against the likes of Onix and Geodude, but with advice from a strange homeless man, Ash learned a new lesson on how to defeat Brock.
G: But as luck would have it, the sprinkler system was set off and Onix was left vulnerable. However, upon Brock's siblings pleas and Ash's own pride, the prospective Pokemon Master decided that he would rather fight Brock at his best and left. But Brock, was inspired by this and decided to give Ash the Pewter Badge and join him on his quest.
N: Brock, journeyed alongside Ash Ketchum and fellow gym leader Misty. Brock often played the role as camp maker: creating shelter, cooking delicious meals, and also a meditator settling conflicts between Ash and Misty which were frequent.
P: Brock, also tried hitting on any female character with a pulse. But as Brock journeyed, he began growing as a man. He learned of Pokemon breeding and medical care and began studying to work in the line of Pokemon care.
G: Wether it be Family obligations or a beautiful Professor, circumstances eventually forces Brock to leave for a while. But Brock always rejoins the group in due time.
N: Brock has many strong Pokemon, but due to Pokemon logic, we will keep it down to six. Most of Brock's Pokemon are of the rock, poison, or ground type, but some types are pretty different. The Pokemon we are placing on his team: are Steelix, Crobat, Sudowoodo, Croagunk, Marshtomp, and Geodude. Steelix is able to mega evolve as well. They know numerous techniques: Rock throw, sandstorm, Poison jab, Dig, tackle, iron tail, gyro ball, stone edge, and presumably fly.
Pokemon
- Steelix (Steel, Ground) Mega Evolution
- Geodude (Rock)
- Marshtomp (Water, Ground)
- Sudowoodo (Rock)
- Crobat (Poison, Flying)
- Croagunk (Poison, Fighting)
P: Brock may not be an active battler, but he and his team have a lot of good feats in that: Brock defeated Ash the first time and held his own in Alola, Steelix can smash rocks easily and traveled deep in the ground smashing rocks, Geodude can damage large rocks, Brock himself was able to survive Pikachu's thunderbolt and Charizard's flamethrower, and Steelix was immune to Pikachu.
Feats
- Defeated Ash Ketchum in a match and held his own against him in Alola
- Won the Dress Up Competition, Summer Academy Competition, and Balloon Race
- Steelix can be harder than a diamond
- Steelix burrows towards the core and made it 6/10 of a way there.
- Steelix can make small Earthquakes
- Geodude's Explosion can damage large rocks
- Croagunk's poison can harm humans and immobilize them
- Steelix took a Charizard's flamethrower
G: Brock does have his weaknesses: his rock and ground type Pokemon are weak to water types, poison is weak to steel, and grass types are a weakness to rock and water, Brock has a weakness to women, is a normal human and enough damage will kill him. A lot of his Pokemon are not that fast and are on the slow side
Weaknesses
- Water types for his rock types. Grass types, steel types, and other type weaknesses.
- Brock is weak towards women.
- Normal human.
- Pokemon are reliant on their trainer.
- Brock's team has limited feats.
- Slow and lack of speed
N: But Brock, is still one of the most iconic gym leaders and one of the more mature Pokemon trainers that actually thinks things through.
(Brock's Steelix mega evolves)
Joey Wheeler[]
N: Joey Wheeler really was an enemy turned friend done right. Initially, due to factors: such as a gambling alcoholic abusive father and jealousy of Yugi, Joey initially bullied Yugi relentlessly. Joey Wheeler
- Alias: Katsuya Jonouichi (manga)
- Age: 16
- Height: 5'8"
- Occupation: Duelist, High Schooler
- Love interest: Mai Valentine
- Possesses the Brooklyn Rage.
P: Joey's bullying towards Yugi culminated when he chucked the last piece of the Millenium Puzzle out the window. It was not until Yugi, saved Joey and his friend Tristan from a greedy bodyguard, that Joey turned his life around.
G: Since that day Joey Wheeler became the best friend and close companion of Yugi, who possesses a natural gambling ability, a strong sense of justice and loyalty as well as....
N: BROOKLYN RAGE!!!! (The sound of a door breaking down is heard)
G: Holy shit Nero, you just kicked the door down. And yes as I was saying, Joey kept his short temper and will occasionally vandalize things to save the day.
P: Initially Joey Wheeler had a poor deck and lost frequently to the likes of Yugi and even Tea Gardner. But he soon began building a deck that fit him, full of gambling cards, Jinzo, and even a Dragon.
N: Joey grew in skill and took down Mai Valentine and frequently made third. He even came close to defeating Marik, before passing out from exhaustion.
G: Joey Wheeler is probably the third or fourth greatest duelist, and is always being overshadowed by the likes of Yugi Muto and Seto Kaiba. But he is one of the greats, and is one to be respected.
P: Joey Wheeler has an iconic deck full of amazing monsters: such as Time Wizard which if a called coin is correct destroys the opponent's monsters on field, Red Eyes Black Dragon which gets stronger during a battle and is known as a rival to Blue Eyes White Dragon, Jinzo which prevents trap cards (maybe status effects), Black Skull Dragon, Alligator Sword, and more monsters, spell cards, and trap cards
Deck
- Jinzo
- Red Eyes Black Dragon
- Alligator Sword
- Time Wizard
- Black Skull Dragon
- Baby Dragon>Thousand Dragon (Time Wizard)
- Red Eyes Retro Dragon
- Garoozis
- Red Eyes Black Metal Dragon
- Pot of Greed
- Rocket Warrior
- Scapegoat and Panther Warrior
- Gearfried the Iron Knight
- Flame Swordsman
- Graceful Dice
N: Joey Wheeler is one of the greatest duelests: ranking third after Kaiba and Yugi, nearly defeated Marik, regularly kicks down walls like the Kool-Aid Man Oh year, Red Eyes Black Dragon is a rival to the Blue Eyes, and was able to defeat the likes of Mai Valentine and Rex Raptor.
Feats
- Regarded as the third greatest duelest after Seto Kaiba and Yugi
- Came close to defeating Marik
- Red Eyes Black Dragon is comparable to Blue Eyes White Dragon who ranks planetery at the minimum.
- Strong enough to smash through walls
- Tanks lightning strikes and blows from monsters
- Defeated Mai Valentine, Rex Raptor, and Bandit Keith.
G: Joey Wheeler does have his weakness: he can become drained with certain cards, relies on luck and dice rolls, and has a temper.
Weaknesses
- Some cards can drain him
- Luck reliant
- Needs more trap cards
- Bad temper and prone to losing it
- Always Second fiddle
P: But bronze isn't always and Joey will always come through for his friends.
(Joey Wheeler defeats Mai Valentine)
The Fight[]
Joey Wheeler is walking with Yugi, Tea, Tristan, Duke, and Serenity as they wander through Pewter City.
"So we're in a country where dey also duel monsters," Joey asked.
"Yep, but instead of cards the monsters are summoned through capsules," Yugi said, "They're called Capsule Monsters."
"Neat," Joey replied, "I want to battle someone strong, and I'll challenge the first person I see."
"Then you should check out the Pewter City gym leader," Yugi said, as they near the corner to the gym, "The leader is Brock, and he primarily uses rock type Pokemon."
"You got that right," a voice said behind the group, "But I'm gym leader no more, but I'll take your challenge for a gym badge."
Brock, appears alongside Ash and Misty.
"Come on I'll battle you inside," Brock said.
Inside the gym
"I'm ready when you are," Brock said.
"It's time to duel," Joey Wheeler said.
"Alright, Geodude I choose you," Brock called tossing out a Pokeball. Out comes a rock with arms.
"Geo...Geodude," Geodude grumbled.
"I'm going to summon Alligator Sword and set a card down for later," Joey called. Alligator Sword is summoned.
FIGHT!!
"Geodude use rock throw," Brock commands.
The sentient rock hurls another rock towards Alligator Sword.
"Alright, I'll turn you to defense," Joey commands, and Alligator Sword prepares to defend itself, and manages to deflect the rocks.
"That's some sturdy defense," Brock commented with a smile.
"Wow, what kind of move is that," Ash wondered aloud.
Misty shrugs, as Joey poses with a smile drawing a card.
"Alright, I summon Baby Dragon in attack position," Joey Wheeler called.
"Wait he's using two monsters," Ash said in surprise, "2 against 1, I don't recall that being a thing?"
"Huh, it seems like people in this game, don't do multiple monsters at once very often," Yugi said aloud before introducing himself to Ash.
"Alright battle time," Joey said, "Attack, Baby Dragon, use Dragon's Breath."
The tiny dragon makes a small draconic blast through breathing, striking Geodude. The sentient rock makes a small noise, and stumbles back.
"Woah what kind of power is that," Brock asked aloud, "Geodude counter attack with Gyro Ball!"
"I change Baby Dragon to defense mode," Joey Wheeler commanded. The small dragon managed to tank the Gyro Ball Attack.
"From my hand I activate Time Wizard," Joey said pulling the card from his hand and putting it in his duel disk.
A sentient clock, appears with a staff. The Time Wizard twirls the staff.
"Whoah what's that," Ash asked.
"I don't know," Misty replied.
"That's Time Wizard," Yugi said, "If Joey flips and calls the coin right, then all monsters controlled by his opponent are destroyed, if he gets it wrong than his monsters are destroyed."
"Oh no," Ash said, "Brock be careful."
Joey pulls a coin out and calls, "Heads!' He flips the coin in the air. The tension in the room grows like fog. Ash and Misty as well as Joey's friends look concerned. The coin hits the ground and stands on the side, spinning. Brock looks concerned, as it rolls heads.
Geodude seemingly erodes into pieces, as Joey's gamble paid off.
"Geodude no," Brock called pulling the Pokeball and pulling the rock back in, "Alright Crobat I choose you."
"Everything's coming up Joey today," Joey Wheeler said with a smile, "And that's not all."
Baby Dragon leaps into the air, in a glow of light before transforming, to Thousand Dragon.
"It's Thousand Dragon," Joey Wheeler said, "With 2,400 attack points and 2,000 attack points."
"Woah, was that evolution," Ash asked.
"Crobat use super sonic," Brock commanded.
The Bat Pokemon uses Supersonic, confusing Thousand Dragon.
"Alright Thousand Dragon, I command you to attack," Joey commanded.
Thousand Dragon tries to attack but hurts itself with confusion.
"How about that," Brock said, "Status effect confusion, your monster can't attack without hurting itself. The stronger the attack the more damage it does."
"Huh Status Effects kind of like a trap card," Joey said thinking for a moment before pulling a card, "I summon Jinzo, it eliminates Trap Cards and prevents them from being used. I assume it works on status effects."
"Alright Crobat use Wing Attack on Thousand Dragon," Brock commanded.
Crobat slashes Thousand Dragon.
"Alright counter attack, Thousand Dragon," Joey commanded. The Dragon is still confused and damags itself.
"Oh yeah, while Jinzo wipes away that kind of stuff, it doesn't subvert it," Joey realizes, "Dang, I might have to lose Thousand Dragon. Alright Jinzo attack the Crobat."
Jinzo creates a psychic energy wave which sends Crobat back damaging it.
"Your move Brock," Joey said with a concerned smile.
"Alright Crobat use Wing Attack again on Thousand Dragon," Brock commands.
Crobat slashes Thousand Dragon, defeating the beast.
"Grr," Joey said disappointed as he summons Thousand Dragon back, "I summon in Alligator Sword: an Alligator that can swing it's sword at the speed of sound. With 1,500 Attack points and 1,200 Defense Points."
"Woah," Ash said with a tad of admiration, "Do you think it could really attack at the Speed of Sound?"
"That should be impossible," Misty replied questioning Joey Wheeler's claims.
"Nothing's impossible if you believe in the heart of the cards," Yugi said with confidence in his friend.
"Alligator Sword, attack now," Joey Wheeler commanded.
In the blink of an eye, Alligator Sword appears behind Crobat and slashes through it, cutting through flesh and wing. Crobat makes a noise in pain and lands.
"Ugh," Brock said with shock, "Poor Crobat. I'll send in reinforcements, Sudowoodo I choose you!"
"That's just a sentient tree," Joey Wheeler said.
"That's what you think," Brock said, "Sudowoodo use Hammer Arm on Alligator Sword."
Sudowoodo swings a massive arm towards Alligator Sword, however the Gator manages to block the blow, stumbling slightly back.
"Crobat use Supersonic on Alligator Sword," Brock commands again, but due to Jinzo the effect fails.
"Aw yeah my turn," Joey Wheeler said with a smile.
"Alright Alligator Sword attack Crobat again," Joey commands.
Alligator Sword rushes Crobat and slashes through the Bat Monster, which falls with a large slash wound across the front.
"Crobat nooo," Brock yelled summoning the Bat back, "Marshtomp I choose you!"
A Water/ground Salamander appears and stomps around crying, "Marshtomp."
"Jinzo attack the Sudowoodo," Joey Wheeler commanded.
Jinzo uses the psychic wave against Sudowoodo, slightly damaging the Pokemon.
"Psychic types are not very effective against Sudowoodo," Brock said with a smile, "It's my turn. Sudowoodo, use Double Edge on Alligator Sword."
Sudowoodo rushes Alligator Sword, smashing the sword, striking the Alligator destroying it.
Joey Wheeler recoils, "Alligator Sword no!!"
"Now Marshtomp, water gun," Brock commands.
Marshtomp fires a stream of water at Jinzo, barely damaging the Duel Monster.
"Sorry Jinzo, but I am going to tribute summon you for Panther Warrior," Joey said, "A hefty monster with 2,000 Attack points and 1,600 Defense points. A monster with unhinged bloodlust. I will draw Pot of Greed, and draw two cards."
Joey draws two cards, and studies Brock.
"Alright Panther Warrior attack, Sudowoodo cut him down," Joey commanded.
Panther Warrior rushes and cuts down Sudowoodo, the tree falls defeated. Brock summons the tree back and looks at the 2 remaining Pokeballs and grabs one.
"Alright Croagunk I choose you," Brock said as a purple toad emerges from the ball.
"Croagunk use Poison jab on Panther Warrior," Brock orders.
Croagunk runs towards Panther Warrior and tries to jab it with little effect.
"Alright everything is coming up Joey today," Joey Wheeler said with a smile, "I will summon Battle Warrior."
"Panther Warrior attack Croagunk," Joey ordered.
Panther Warrior rushes towards Croagunk and slashes the Poison type across the chest.
"Alright," Joey cheers as Croagunk is struck, and stumbles back blood dripping from it's chest.
"Woah, it's actually bleeding," Yugi said, "These 'Pokemon' sure are different!"
"Alright Croagunk: counter attack: use Brick Break on Panther Warrior," Brock ordered, "And Marshtomp use Tackle on Panther Warrior."
"Panther Warrior switch to defense mode," Joey commanded.
Panther Warrior manages to tank both Brick Break and Tackle.
"I summon Sword Hunter," Joey said as an Armored Warrior emerges in the stands.
"Now that they're close Sword Hunter and Panther Warrior attack. I will tribute summon Battle Warrior so that Panther Warrior could attack," Joey Wheeler ordered with a smile.
Sword Hunter slices through Marshtomp with near ease, as Panther Warrior attacks, slicing through Croagunk as well.
Brock calls both monsters back in.
"I am really in a corner," Brock said, "I have to use my Ace in the sleeve."
"Woah Brock is really struggling," Misty said, "That Joey must be really strong."
"Don't worry Misty, Mega Steelix is really strong," Ash said with a smile.
"Come on Joey," Tea cheered.
"Let's go Joey," Tristan and Duke joined in the cheer.
"Alright buddy," Yugi cheered, "Don't get overconfident, but keep going."
"Steelix I choose you," Brock yelled.
The ground shakes as Steelix emerges from his Pokeball.
"Beyond evolution Mega Evolve," Brock commanded pressing his Mega stone, Steelix begins to glow and out emerges a Mega evolved Steelix.
"Woah, Mega Evolution is awesome," Ash said.
"That could be troublesome," Yugi admitted.
"What is that," Joey said with some surprise.
"Steelix used dig," Brock ordered. The massive stone snake burrows into the ground, "Your move Joey."
"I call in Flame Swordsman," Joey called. A warrior with a flaming sword is summoned.
"Sword Hunter attack," Joey ordered. But the Warrior was unable to hit anything.
"Alright Flame Swordsman attack," Joey ordered, but this Swordsman too was unable to hit anything.
Steelix emerges striking Panther Warrior destroying the monster.
"Urk," Joey said making a funny face before making the Creepy chin, "It's not over yet!"
"Flame Swordsman attack the Mega Evolved Steelix head on," Joey said.
"Wait that may not be a good idea," Yugi said.
"Stay out of this Yug, I want to win this on my own," Joey said.
But like Yugi advices, Flame Swordsman's sword was unable to do anything to Steelix, not even a tickle. Mega Steelix looks unamused.
"Sword Hunter, you too," Joey ordered.
Similar to Flame Swordsman's predicament, Sword Hunter was unable to carve a dent into Steelix.
"Alright Steelix gyro ball on the warriors," Brock ordered.
Steelix slams the gyro ball destroying both Flame Swordsman and Sword Hunter.
"Ahh," Joey cried, "Alright, think Joey think. It's not over yet. Oddly Steelix is not harming my life points. Alright, what do I do? What would Yugi do? Have faith in the cards, right?"
"I summon Axe Rider," Joey said, "In defense mode."
"Steelix use dig," Brock ordered.
Joey smiles, "And I summon Cyber Harpie Lady."
A Harpie emerges making a terrifying squawk.
"What is Joey planning," Tea asks herself.
"I don't know," Yugi said, "I didn't even know he had a Harpie Lady."
"Come on Brock," Ash cheered, "You have him on the ropes!"
"I wouldn't think so yet," Brock said, "Joey is an admirable opponent, who always has a trick up his sleeve. I respect that. Now Steelix attack the Harpie Lady! Maybe after this battle we can go out to dinner!"
Brock has heart eyes and does a few spins, "Never have I seen a more beautiful lady!" The Harpie blows a kiss.
"Not even Nurse Joy or Officer Jenny," Misty asked shaking her head in disbelief.
"Not so fast," Joey said, "I use Skull Dice. When I roll a dice whatever number I land on, the damage casued by your monster is divided."
"Agh," Brock said, "This could be bad!"
Joey rolls a dice, and it bounces slowly, and begins rolling precariously over 6 and 1. It lands on 6.
"Aw yeah right back off the edge," Joey said as Cyber Harpie Lady is hit but tanks it.
"It's my turn," Joey said before thinking in his head, "I really need that Red Eyes Black Dragon! But the odds of choosing it are low. But what would Yugi do? Oh yeah believe in the heart of the cards!"
"I believe in the heart of the cards," Joey shouts as he draws a card, "Aw yeah! I got it! Sorry Mai: I am sacrificing my Cyber Harpie Lady and Axe Raider for my....RED EYES BLACK DRAGON!"
"That's what Joey was planning," Tea realizing his plan.
"Aw yeah he got it," Yugi said.
Suddenly the ceiling is shattered as a massive black dragon with red eyes lands on the battle ground.
"Sorry about your ceiling," Joey said bashfully.
"No problem," Brock said, "This isn't the first time the gym has been damaged, believe me!"
"Alright," Joey said as he stares at Steelix, "My pal here is a very rare monster card."
"Now Red Eyes Black Dragon," Joey commanded, "Inferno Fire Blast!"
Red Eyes Black Dragon sends forth a red ball of fire, aiming straight at Steelix.
"Steelix Gyro Ball," Brock ordered.
Steelix fires a Gyro Ball, however the energy of Inferno Fire Blast, sears right through striking Steelix, severely damaging it.
"Steelix no," Brock said with some surprise, "Alright Dragon tail!"
Steelix attempts to slam it's tail shrouded with dragon energy towards Red Eyes Black Dragon. The massive dragon just takes the attack.
"Red Eyes Black Dragon attack again," Joey ordered, "Inferno Fire Blast!"
Red Eyes Black Dragon fires a larger red fire blast.
"Iron tail counter," Brock ordered.
Steelix rushes Red Eyes Black Dragon, as the fire blast is hurled, narrowly avoiding it and slams it's tail into Red Eyes Black Dragon.
"Attack now," Joey said, as Red Eyes Black Dragon shakes the damage away and sends forth another fire blast, damaging Steelix creating cracks throughout the body.
"Alright Stone edge," Brock ordered.
Mai enters the gym to watch the end result, standing with Yugi and company.
"That's Stone Edge," Ash said, "A last resort attack that deals massive damage to an opponent but damages itself in the process."
"This can't be good," Misty said.
Steelix rushes Red Eyes Black Dragon and uses stone edge, sharp rocks emerging from the ground, the Earth shaking, as it hits Red Eyes Black Dragon, slightly damaging the Dragon. Red Eyes Black Dragon stumbles back but regains it's footing. Steelix roars in pain, as it is damaging itself with recoil.
"Now finish it," Joey said, "Inferno fire blast!"
Red Eyes Black Dragon fires a blast of energy striking Steelix. The ground shakes, Steelix roars in pain as it loses it's Mega Evolution form and begins turning into ash. All that is left is the horn. Brock was slightly wounded but alright enough to stand up.
"Steelix no," Brock said with a degree of disappointment, "Alright Joey, you win. Here's the Pewter Badge. It was a good fight."
"Aw yeah I won," Joey cheered, "I'm sorry about your monsters."
"It's alright," Brock said as he walks off.
Joey and his friends celebrate Joey's most difficult win. KO!
Conclusion[]
N: Huh that was neat, took a while for the result to happen, but it doesn't surprise me that Joey Wheeler ended up winning.
P: A lot of Brock's Pokemon such as Sudowoodo and Marshtomp could take out weaker monsters like Battle Warrior. But against the likes of Jinzo, Panther Warrior, and Red Eyes Black Dragon, they did not stand a chance.
G: Steelix is decently powerful capable of burrowing through the Earth, creating small Earthquakes, and being able to hold it's own agaisnt other Mega evolved Pokemon, but it ended up paling to Red Eyes Black Dragon, a monster who scales as a rival to Blue Eyes White Dragon, which is at least a planet buster.
N: While Brock was calmer and his Pokemon being physically stronger: Joey Wheeler had luck on his side and attack power with Red Eyes Black Dragon. Brock's calmness and greater experience does not grant him the win.
P: Joey also held the speed advantage. Alligator Sword can move faster than the speed of sound, which is something none of Brock's Pokemon could react to. And the versatility of Joey's deck kept him armed with more monsters and more versatility than what Brock could utilize with his 6 monster limit.
N: In the end Brock tried but his victory was Wheel-ered away.
G: The winner is Joey Wheeler

Trivia[]
-The soundtrack would be a mix between the Indigo League theme and the original Yugioh theme or calm rock music: the title is called the Heart of the Friendship. Joey believes in the Heart of the Cards and Brock frequently flashes heart eyes and both are close friends to the heroes. It would have an outline of a Steelix skull and Red Eyes Black Dragon
