Interlude[]
(Queue Death Battle - Wiz & Boomstick)
The episode opens with the Death Battle transition card closing before opening again to show Dimitri charging forwards and clashing against Jeanne’s flag, which pauses and grays out as Ringmaster shouts…
“FIGHT!”
Wiz: Jeanne d’Arc, the Holy Maiden of Salvation.
Boomstick: Dimitri Alexandre Blaiddyd, the Savage Tempest King.
Wiz: Many times, you expect the great hero of a war to be celebrated and honored upon returning home from their victory, defending their land bringing them only fame and notoriety, regardless of if they’re a common farmhand or the Prince of a nation.
Boomstick: But these two certainly learned the hard way that no matter where you come from or what you do for them, humans suck and will take any chance they get to kick you to the curb. He’s Wiz and I’m Boomstick!
Wiz: And it’s our job to analyze their weapons, armor, and skills to find out who would win a Death Battle!
Jeanne d'Arc Prays for Salvation in DEATH BATTLE![]
Wiz: Let’s take a step back, all the way to the fourteen hundreds, to an age where the British and the French were at war with each other. During this hundred year war, the British Empire were making their final steps towards capturing the French Capital of Orleans. But their siege would be for not, for a holy maiden guided by the Lord himself would arrive on the battlefield, a flag in hand, rallying the French to a successful counterattack in only nine days. This was the Saint herself, Jeanne d’Arc. She single handedly turned the tide of the war back in favor of the French, just as the visions she claimed to have received by god said she would.
Boomstick: But things never end well for most heroes, and Jeanne was no exception. She was eventually captured by French traitors who sided with the English and put on trial where her faith in her god was dubbed heresy, and she was sentenced to death, burned alive at a stake with nobody to save her. Oh yeah, and she was only 19. And that is where this story ends…psyche!
Wiz: In the world of Fate, all heroic souls are recorded on the Throne of Heroes, and Joan, or rather, Jeanne, was no exception. While her body had burned away, her spirit had been immortalized, and she would return to the Earth whenever it needed her most as a Heroic Spirit.
Wiz: While Jeanne can be manifested in the Saber and Lancer Classes when summoned in a traditional Holy Grail War, or some equivalent ritual, she’s more commonly associated with the special Ruler Class.
Boomstick: Ruler’s are super sick, since they have special skills that no other Servant Class has access to, like automatically discerning the true names and stats of every other Servant present and being able to control them with Command Spells, swaying them to her cause just as she always does. Of course the cost is that she has to be fair and impartial, and only use these skills to ensure innocent people aren’t hurt by the grail war nonsense and all that.
Wiz: And nobody is more impartial then Jeanne d’Arc, for she is the flag at which others will rally to, be it when a Great Holy Grail War becomes a plot to reshape the world in one's own image, or all of human history is incinerated and the last Master needs a general by their side. But Jeanne is more than just a leader, she’s a fully capable fighter in her own right. As a Heroic Spirit, she can demonstrate superhuman strength far greater than any mortal, and her Revelation Skill is like an enhanced version of the Instinct Skill, guiding her to whatever the optimal route in battle is. Despite it not being her preferred method of fighting, she’s more than capable of kicking your ass in a fistfight if need be.
Boomstick: She could definitely kick my ass.
Wiz: …Um-
Boomstick: I know what I said.
Wiz: Right… Well, Jeanne’s primary weapon isn’t a sword or spear, but instead her trusty battle flag.
Boomstick: Now I know what you’re thinking; and it’s not just a flag. It’s a totally viable weapon, and the tip is even sharpened like a spear so it can be an effective tool in taking lives. Though since it’s a flag, it can also just be used as a blunt object if you want to beat someone senseless for sinning. Which, now that I think about the fact she’s a Nasuverse character, man she’d probably be beating everyone with that thing. Especially guy’s like Shirou Emiya and Shiki Tohno-
Wiz: The flag itself also serves as Jeanne Noble Phantasm, the embodiment of her heroic legend, Luminosité Eternelle. By speaking the incantation, Jeanne can spread her natural EX Rank Magic Resistance to all of her allies, granting everyone a powerful protective shield. The cost is that the damage itself accumulates within the flag, and will eventually break if too much damage is taken. The flag’s magical properties do not stop at defensive abilities however, as Jeanne is also capable of converting the mana in her body into magical blasts of light, bringing holy down judgment upon her foes.
Boomstick: She’s also got this sick ass sword, La Pucelle, which grants her the ability to shoot and manipulate magical fire to incinerate all threats to humanity with. Oh yeah, it’s also the physical manifestation of the stake that she burned to death on! Shit, that’s a hardcore weapon to use in battle.
Wiz: The only downside to it, aside from only being able to use La Pucelle against purely and objectively evil beings, is that she has to take her own life to activate it. Traumatizing? Yeah, probably, but it’s quite effective, and she can always use the sword without activating the kamikaze ability.
Boomstick: Yeah if you couldn’t figure, Jeanne’s super forgiving. Even while she burns alive, she cannot bring herself to feel hatred for her enemies. But if she needs to use the flames that burned her alive offensively without restricting herself to La Pucelle, she can instead use Flamme Pays E…Etra…Erag… how do you say that?
Wiz: Well it’s French so…(shrugs)
Boomstick: Well, Flamme Pays Étranger is another manifestation of the flames that burned Jeanne alive, but this one is much easier to weaponize against others, obliterating any people in the nearby vicinity, in addition to any houses, trees, and basically anything else. Much like La Pucelle, it’s a last resort since it also drains her stamina, but in a much more generally offensive way instead of being the ultimate last resort against pure evil. As a trade off though, it’s not as powerful and can’t just nuke the opponent.
Wiz: In addition to that, she can also invert Luminosité Eternelle into an offensive Noble Phantasm by drawing on all of her sorrow and pain that she represses, creating a powerful offensive flame; Tristesse de la Vierge. This power is comparable to other Servants like the Hero of Rebellion Spartacus, or more notably, the Prince of the Boundless Azura, Yamato Takeru. This is noticeable because Takeru was able to defeat the ultra-destructive Oni Ushi Gozen, and Jeanne even defeated a similarly powerful Divine Spirit, Ibuki-Douji, who Gilgamesh himself directly stated was strong enough to destroy all of the Edo Region. This is fairly similar to the Dragon Fafnir, which Doctor Romani Acherman stated was strong enough to destroy the entire Orleans Region.
Boomstick: And we previously calced that blast as needing almost of 3 Teratons of TnT to perform! Jeanne’s even fought on par with Siegfried, who was able to block Fafnir’s country busting attack, but she’s also matched a certain Fandango-murdering Knight of Rebellion Mordred, who could tag their daddy Artoria while mortally wounded, and Artoria was directly stated to be able to move and fight at lightspeed. Naturally, if Mordred can match those speeds, Jeanne should be able to do so as well. She’s even fought and defeated the actual goat of all goats, Cú Chulainn, who can completely blitz Artoria in terms of sheer speed.
Wiz: As is quite evident, Jeanne has seen a lot of conflicts in her time as a Heroic Spirit. She fought and matched dozens of different Servant’s that we just don’t have time to mention, and with Luminosité Eternelle, her Magic Resistance can be used to protect an entire army of Heroic Spirits. She’s also just, absurdly stronger than one might expect, since she was able to match and defeat her evil Altered Doppelganger multiple times. Not only has she defeated Jalter in a one on one, but she once defeated both Jalter and Fafnir at the same time.
Boomstick: How the FUCK!?
Wiz: But Jeanne didn’t just damn her counterpart to non-existence, but offered a hand of compassion out to her as well, taking Jalter in as a sister and helping her find her own value in her existence, even if her offers for sisterhood aren’t always accepted. It just goes to show how much Jeanne’s ability to show love and compassion to all extends that she can save anyone, even her own evil clone… well, anyone except for Chiemon, but not for a lack of trying.
Boomstick: And eventually, it was her turn to be saved, because even she couldn’t shoulder the weight of the world forever, especially not alone. Be it from a day-old Homunculus Sieg and his coffee-energized Rider Astolfo, or the Last Master of Humanity Fujimaru Ritsuka and his Kouhai Mash Kyrielight, and even a moment of Jalter returning the favor, they all helped Jeanne find a chance to accept that she too needed to accept the support of others and allow herself to rest, enjoy life, and be a little selfish.
Wiz: Bonds that, even if not remembered by memories, will be carried inside Jeanne’s heart forever. So long as she still draws breath, and humanity still persists on, she will stand tall, flag in hand, ready to fight for all that good and just to the very last breath.
Dimitri Alexandre Blaiddyd Kills Every Last One of Them in DEATH BATTLE![]
Wiz: Long ago, the continent of Fódlan, under the careful rule of the Church of Serios, existed in a state of peace between its three nations: The Adrestian Empire, The Leicester Alliance, and the one favored most by the Church of Serios, The Holy Kingdom of Faerghus. Faerghus is a cold nation of heavy winters, a nation which placed pristine honor upon Nobility and Knighthood, one where learning to write one’s own name comes second to learning to swing a sword
Boomstick: And that was no exception to its Crown Prince, Dimitri Alexandre Blaiddyd. While he did have a semi-normal childhood alongside his friends Sylvain, Ingrid, and Felix, he was also a prodigy when it came to fighting. So much so that by nine years old, he was taking afternoon jogs across mountains for hours, lifting entire boulders by himself, and breaking weapons in just about every spar or lesson he had. Well, I guess it’s good to know that your kid is superhuman at a young age.
Wiz: This was due to Dimitri’s possession of a Crest. Crest’s manifests primarily in Nobility or esteemed Knight families, though some common folk possess them as well, due to their bloodlines possessing the of the Goddess, Sothis. As such, Crestbearers possess enhanced strength, durability, magic, and magical prowess.
Boomstick: Most Nobility and Elites who had Crest’s were huge dicks with massive Ego’s, seeing themselves as above the common man, but not Dimitri. In his eyes, it was the duty of those who possessed these Gifts to safeguard Fódlan and protect those who didn’t, especially after… let’s say, the most traumatizing day of his life.
Wiz: Right. Not long after young Dimitri’s brief friendship with fellow Noble Edelgard, a secret cult known as TWSITD murdered his father and a sect of Faerghus’s Knights, burning them alive right before Dimitri. As if that were not enough, the young Prince was unable to stop the neighboring nation of Duscur from being falsely blamed for the tragedy, causing even more unjust bloodshed. While he did gain a friend from a survivor of the tragedy in his future Vassal Dedue, the sheer amounts of death that he witnessed left Dimitri cursed with the knowledge that his own Kingdom was corrupt and that he could do little to stop them, plaguing him with intense survivor's guilt.
Boomstick: But when a group of those Nobles tried to rebel two years later, Dimitri was at the forefront to squash their ambitions. And with that Crest strength plus the emergence of a savage side that reveled in the bloodshed emerging, Dimitri almost single handedly annihilated their rebellion.
Wiz: After that though, Dimitri and his friends would enroll as students at the Garreg Mach Officers Academy, where Dimitri would do his best to keep his savage side at bay with some advice from Felix’s Dad Rodrigue, who was also a friend of his late father. There, Dimitri would become the leader of Faerghus’s class, the Blue Lions, and eventually student of the mysterious mercenary; Byleth Eisner.
Boomstick: Byleth taught Dimitri a lot, but especially the one skill Dimitri lacked; how to use Magic. Under Byleth’s guidance, Dimitri learned how to call down bolts of Lightning from the sky, shoot mini Kamehameha’s with Thoron, and even channel it through his weapons.
Wiz: Dimitri also learned how to cast Holy Magic with Aura and even the deadly Nosferatu, a Spell with siphons the magical energy of others to restore one’s own health. That said, while Dimitri is capable of casting Magic, he’s not good at it, especially considering every spell he knows has limited uses. He’s much more proficient in the use of weaponry. Any weapon he can get his hands on, Dimitri can turn into a method of murder. Lances, Swords, Axes, Bows, Gauntlets, you name it.
Boomstick: Weapons like the Levin Sword can shoot Lighting for Dimitri, the Veinn Lance can poison foes, and the Blessed Lance is designed specifically to kill unholy monsters. Plus, Dimitri can use passive skills like Swordbreaker to get extra evasion against swords, stop foes in their tracks with Seal Movement, and with Defiant Strength he gets a boost to his Strength once he’s on Death’s door.
Wiz: Dimitri led his Classmates to victory against all manner of foes, from your standard Fire Emblem Brigands to new encounters with TWSITD. But everything changed for Dimitri when he learned that the leader of those behind the greatest Tragedy of his Life… was his old friend and fellow Officers Academy student; Edelgard.
Boomstick: Well, that sucks.
Wiz: This Twisted Joke broke Dimitri. His rage at this betrayal unleashed a madness unlike any he had shown before. He could be savage and cruel in battle before, but after learning that his own Step-Sister was leading those who caused the slaughter of thousands, Dimitri vowed to kill not just Edelgard, but all of her allies, down to the last one.
Boomstick: It didn’t help that almost instantly after this, Byleth went missing, he was accused of being a traitor to his own Kingdom, and Dedue apparently died saving him. And so, he did the only thing left that he could do; slaughtered every single soldier that served Edelgard and the Adrestian Empire. Even losing an eye wasn’t enough to quell his thirst for revenge or obsessive need to please the voices of the dead in his head.
Wiz: It wasn’t until the return of Byleth, Dedue, and the rest of his friends that Dimitri truly was able to embark on a War that would see him slaughter everyone in his path. Not only was he embolden with having forces at his side, he was also able to get some new weapons like Brave Lance, which allows its user to always strike Twice, and the Killer Lance, sharp enough to slay any foe with ease.
Boomstick: Or get some lucky crits. But this was also when he got his trusty family weapon, the Heroes' Relic, Areadbhar. Like with all other Heroes’ Relics, Areadbhar is made from the bones of space dragons and is much stronger than any other weapon in Dimitri’s arsenal. Especially when he combines it with the Combat Arts taught to him by Byleth like Tempest Lance, the basic power boost strike. Glowing Ember imbues his Lance with Fire and inflicts damage based on his defense, Frozen Lance causes spikes of Ice to emerge from the ground, Stormblade causes Wind damage and is effective against flying units, and Vengeance boosts its power the more and more he gets beat up. Only downside is, each Combat Art speeds up the rate at which his weapons will break.
Wiz: But when Dimitri wields Areadbhar, he can use the weapon’s signature Combat Art; Atrocity, which is a surefire kill against any foe. It’s also pretty aptly named, as Dimitri waged a war that spilled much more unnecessary blood. His quest for revenge consumed him to the point he inhumanely tortured enemy commanders, and he was completely willing to sacrifice his own friends to get what he wanted. Until… one of them sacrificed themselves for him. When Rodrigue took a dagger for Dimitri, the thought of having another voice haunt him, especially the voice of his best friend’s father, broke the Savage Boar from his madness.
Boomstick: Only for Byleth and the rest of his friends to stand proud, assuring Dimitri that they would continue to be there and support him. They helped Dimitri begin to truly heal, and allowed him to focus on what was really important; liberating Faerghus and moving to create a peaceful future for all of Fódlan.
Wiz: A task he was well suited for, considering that his Heroes’ Relic could take out an entire group of soldiers in one shot, and Dimitri himself can dodge meteors and even bolts of lightning. He’s also tanked blasts from Thales, whose magical power was so great that it shook an underground city. Yet it could barely so much as scratch Dimitri.
Boomstick: Dimitri’s killed a shadow copy of himself and can even fight evenly with Edelgard, which is important because alongside Byleth, Edelgard in her route fought and killed Rhea, the Archbishop of the Church of Serios, and daughter of…Serios. That’s important, because it means Rhea can turn into a big dragon, and after she did, could survive being hit by two Javelin’s of Light. That’s pretty impressive for a good few reasons.
Wiz: See, in Fódlan's history, several Javelin’s were set to destroy Garreg Mach, until Sothis used their power to redirect them. We also know that only a maximum of Six Javelin’s of Light are used at a time, so it’s reasonable to assume the maximum of six was used against Garreg Mach. This would mean each individual Javelin of Light must have a destructive yield of three gigatons of TNT.
Boomstick: Rhea could also fire beams of light that Byleth and Edelgard could dodge right as it’s above their heads. And by using Dimitri’s height as a baseline, that would mean Dimitri and other comparable characters can dodge at almost four times the speed of light. That’s hella fast!
Wiz: But when it was all said and done, once Dimitri had won the great Fódlan war and even learned that Edelgard wasn’t in any way responsible for the Tragedy of Duscur, and had instead been manipulating the one’s involved so she could destroy them from the inside out… was able to offer her a hand of forgiveness. A chance for them both to start over, just as his friends had offered to him
Boomstick: Too bad she chose death instead. Alas, that would be the conclusion to Dimitri’s story… unless you picked one of the other routes instead, in which case he succumbs to his madness and dies a horrible, cold, lonely death. Again, that sucks.
Wiz: Though life would never be easy for him, and the voices of the dead would likely haunt him forever, with his friends by his side Dimitri would do his best to be a Tempest King. One who could lead the newly united Fódlan into a golden age of peace and prosperity
Pre-Fight![]
Wiz: Alright the combatants are set and we’ve run the data through all possibilities.
Boomstick: It’s time for a DEATH BATTLE!!
DEATH BATTLE![]
[The Holy Kingdom of Faerghus]
A scream of pain cries out as a soldier, clad in the red of the Adrestian Empire, falls to the ground beneath his feet, his body embedding in the snow below him and staining the white ground with his blood as his sword is lost to the snow. Another soldier strikes down onto his attacker, only for a lance to impale itself through his chest and slay the axe-wielding soldier. As the other soldier is discarded to the ground below, Dimitri lets out a hefty sigh as he raises a hand to nurse his head, and hopefully prevent himself from letting his insanity further claim him.
But Dimitri’s attempts to calm himself are interrupted as he turns around at the sound of metal boots trudging through the snow, and his single eye lays upon a woman he’d never seen before, clad in armor holding a flag representing a nation he did not recognize. Yet, he could tell this was not a human, at least, not anymore. Something about her was too ethereal, too…haunting.
Dimitri: Are you another ghost of my past come to haunt me? If I have killed you once before, you will find no retribution here.
A calm expression remained on the woman’s face as she raised her flag, its banner flapping in the cold wind, and she planted it into the ground to affirm her stance.
Jeanne: I am not here to seek retribution nor pass judgment. I am here to free you from your torment, Dimitri.
Dimitri: Then you'll die trying.
And without a moment of hesitation, Dimitri twisted his signature Heroes Relic, Areadbhar, and charged forwards to clash against the Saint of Orleans as his Lance met her Flag. The two used the clash as a chance to test each other’s strength for a moment before Jeanne was able to push Dimitri backwards, and when he went for another swing of his lance she was able to duck under it and counterattack by swinging her flag to knock Dimitri backwards. However, Dimitri barely budged backwards before he jabbed Areadbhar forwards, the tip of it’s blade nearly skewering Jeanne’s chest as she was forced to raise her flag to block the attack, though the force of the attack still knocked her backwards, placing a fair bit of distance between them. While he carefully spun Areadbhar in his right hand as if he were going to attack with it, Dimitri kept his left hand hidden within his cloak as it slightly cackled with electricity, before he suddenly stretched that hand out to cast Thunder, causing bolts of blue lighting to begin raining down upon Jeanne.
The Ruler Class Servant wasn’t caught off guard so easily though, as she leaped backwards to avoid the first bolt and quickly began to run through the snow, easily sprinting past two more bolts of lightning before she zig-zagged to avoid another two while closing the gap between herself and Dimitri. Quickly, Dimitri swung his lance to clash against her flag again, but Jeanne planted her feet firmly into the ground and blocked his attack before swinging back with a counterattack of her own, the clash between herself and Dimitri’s weapons creating a minitrue shockwave that knocked the snow on the ground away from them. DImitri pulled back before swinging Areadbhar around again, and while Jeanne was able to block the attack this time, Dimitri's momentum continued on, allowing him to forcefully swing Jeanne around before launching her away, causing her to crash into the side of a tree with a hefty thud, and a plot of snow to fall onto her head.
Jeanne was only dazed for a moment however, as she quickly noticed Dimitri coming straight forwards and swinging Areadbhar downwards, so she rolled to the side to avoid the incoming attack, causing him to cut the tree she had landed against in half. Then, while he was still recovering from his failed attack, Jeanne let her flag begin to glow with a golden glow before she swung it forwards, unleashing a powerful Mana Burst that exploded in Dimitri’s face, sending the Savage Boar flying through the air and forcing him to drop his Heroes’ Relic as he landed in the snow face down with a forceful thud.
As Dimitri groaned from the force of the explosion that had knocked him down, he began to pick himself up and out of the snow, he turned around to find Jeanne standing in front of him, although her eyes did not look down upon him with contempt.
Jeanne: End this, Dimitri. I did not come to fight you.
For a moment, Dimitri hesitated. He actually considered her offer of compassion…
Before he violently shoved her backwards, grabbing the axe of one of the soldiers he had killed earlier and swinging it at Jeanne to force her backwards.
Dimitri: Lies! I can see what you are, spirit! You are of the dead, and I will not be dragged to join you before I finish my mission!
Another swing of the axe, and Dimitri managed to push Jeanne onto the backfoot. He swung one more time with an overhead strike meant to split her skull open, at the very least he’d crack that head guard she was wearing. But instead, Jeanne’s flag was swung around, intercepting the path of his axe before she shattered the blade of the weapon with a single swing. Dimitri was almost impressed, having not seen one such as himself capable of breaking a weapon so easily, but he soon found himself being hit in the stomach and sent flying into the snow once again before he could give props to his foe’s strength.
So instead, he held his left hand out and cast Aura, releasing a gleaming blast of Holy Magic from his hand out towards Jeanne. With a spin of her flag she planted her weapon into the ground, causing the Aura Spell to be completely negated. That, however, gave Dimitri the chance to prepare the much more complex Thoron. Charging the attack and throwing his right hand out, firing a beam of lighting that caught Jeanne off guard. She swung her flag to deflect it, but the force of the attack sent her flying through a tree, causing her to go flying off of a nearby cliff. Acting quickly, Dimitri knew he had to secure the kill if he did not wish to continue to be assaulted, and so he grabbed Areadbhar out of the snow and jumped down after her.
Below, Jeanne found herself falling for a good few seconds before she hit the ground with a thud, causing her to drop her flag. Beginning to pick herself back up, looking up to see a battlefield littered with bodies from Fódlan’s three nations, weapons littering the battlefield as the ground is covered with a mix of smoking ashes and snow. Just as she got back into her feet, she suddenly gasped and drew the sword at her waist before spinning around, following the guidance of her instincts to block a strike from the falling Dimitri before kicking him backwards.
The assault continued quickly however as Dimitri swung Areadhbar twice, forcing her to remain defensive. Her sword skills were good, but not as good as her skills with her flag, so she couldn’t afford an error as she blocked Areadhbar’s next attempt to skewer her face before she elbowed Dimitri in the gut, then swung her weapon to slash him across the chest, piercing his armor and drawing blood, resulting in him letting out a loud, strained grunt of pain.
Dimitri: How.. dare you!
The Savage Boar Prince suddenly lunged forwards, dropping his spear in favor of grabbing Jeanne out of the air and forcing La Pucelle out of her hands, firmly beginning to choke her out before pinning her to the ground.
Dimitri: The dead will have their revenge! You will not impede my slaughter!
Suddenly, and much to Dimitri’s surprise, a kick to the abdomen from Jeanne was enough to not only get him off of her, but send him flying a good few feet across the battlefield. It was enough to rouse him from his madness for a moment as well, for he had to commend this woman. She was just as strong and fast as he was, and few Men or Women were capable of truly matching him. If she were not already dead, he would surely have asked for her name.
Alas, he was going to return her to the dead, where she belonged.
Dimitri grabbed a Killer Lance from a dead soldier on the ground and charged forwards just as Jeanne was able to grab a Blessed Lance, and the two of them continued fighting. Dimtri struck quickly, parried by Jeanne’s counterattacks before she swung around to keep some distance between them. Though he took a step back to avoid the tip of her blade, Dimitri waited until they were in striking distance and began to channel his lightning magic through his lance before clashing their weapons again. His intention was to electrocute her upon her clash, but even as he could see the magic channeling into her body, she continued to stand strong against his attacks.
Frustrated in how much Jeanne had managed to match him, Dimitri spun around and activated the Stormblade Combat art, thrusting his Killer Lance forwards with enough force to shatter both his weapon and Jeanne’s Blessed Lance, but also cause a small explosion of wind magic that send her flying across the battlefield, kicking up both smoldering ashes and snow as she skidded along the ground. Finally coming to a stop, Jeanne noticed her flag off to the side and quickly grabbed it, but this time, she closed her eyes to focus, causing the flag to shapeshift into a large battle spear.
Jeanne: If you will not listen to my words, then I pray you listen to this, Dimitri.
Just as she fully stood back up and turned to face Dimitri, Jeanne gasped as she saw him running forwards and grabbing Areadbhar off of the ground before he stabbed the weapon’s blade into the soil and activated Frozen Lance, suddenly, spikes of ice began sprouting out of the ground, and Jeanne gasped before she quickly leapt to the side, barely managing to avoid being skewered by the ice. Landing back on the ground, she raised her battle spear overhead and began to focus her Mana into it, then pointed the weapon forwards to bait Dimitri into attacking her, a bait he easily took.
Jeanne: Fallen of the battlefield… cry out your lamentation.
Her spear began to glow with an ominous purple hue. Dark flames started sprouting from the weapon as she activated a technique she seldom used. Only here, surrounded by those taken by senseless war, could she invert a Noble Phantasm meant to protect others, into one meant to harm them. Her hope, then, was that Dimitri’s sense for the departed would allow him to understand the dangers of the path he teetered on.
Jeanne: Tristesse de la Vierge!!!!
Thrusting her Spear forwards, a powerful blast of Magic was released right in Dimitri’s face, the blade of her spear piercing his stomach before the actual explosion of magic sent him flying, scorching the snow and reigniting the ashes.
Flames began to entreat upon the battlefield, and Dimitri found himself dead in the center of them. Even the pain of the injuries he had sustained were nothing to him, as the hulking behemoth of a man, clad in his black armor and furry cloak, began to push himself back onto his feet. Areadhbar in his right hand, his head fell into his left hand as the voices…
The voices called for him.
Voices of the Dead: Avenge us...
Voices of the Dead: Kill her…
Voices of the Dead: Kill Edelgard!
Dimitri began to hyper-ventilate as more voices assaulted his mind. Voices that called for the death of Jeanne, for the death of Edelgard. The death to Claude, to the allies of everyone who abandoned him! And anyone else who got in his way!
Dimitri: I… I promise…! I’ll kill them…
Jeanne stepped forwards, and raised a hand, as if to call out to Dimitri.
But she was too late.
Dimitri: I’LL KILL EVERY LAST ONE OF THEM!!!!!!
With a ferocious yell, Dimitri went flying across the battlefield at speeds Jeanne hadn’t expected, the force of how quickly he closed the distance between them causing the flames around them to flicker and be forced into once direction. The two of them clashed spears rapidly, Jeanne landing a slash across his chest that drew blood onto the snow below them, but Dimitri just powered through it and swung Areadbhar to land a strike onto her which let her own blood be spilled from her body onto the ground below. Dimitri suddenly activates Seal Movement, binding Jeanne in place as he uses Glowing Ember to strike her with enough force that her body went digging into the snow. More flames sprouted around the battlefield as Jeanne coughed up some blood, and she quickly weaved to the left to avoid being impaled before striking back against Dimitri, their weapons clashing and sending sparks flying with each collision.
The sound of steel striking against the bode-like metal of the Heroes’ Relic was so loud it drowned out the sounds of the burning fires. Jeanne raised her spear and called down several arrows of light magic that she fired at Dimitri, who used the Frozen Lance ability again to use the Ice Spikes as a makeshift shield before rushing at her with Azure Lightning and fury of rapid electrical slashes. Jeanne struggled to continue blocking each other as Dimitri’s speed overwhelmed her, but her instincts would continue to guide her onwards. She continued to endure the assault, until finally, she found an opening to channel flames through her spear and land a quick five-hit combo of rapid strikes onto Dimitri that drew what should have been enough blood for any human to pass out.
But not Dimitri. Dimitri kept on fighting.
He raised Areadbhar and knocked her backwards, to which Jeanne raised her spear as it began to glow brightly again, and she prepared to once again use Tristesse de la Vierge. This time though, Dimitri saw his opening, and he went for it. With his Defiant Strength boosting him to his limits, Dimitri raised Areadbhar and let the weapon begin to glow as he activated his strongest Combat Art, the one that drew on the power of his Crest of Blaiddyd; Atrocity.
Dimitri: I’LL DESTROY YOU!!!
And with that, Dimitir went for his kill-shot. He lunged forwards faster than Jeanne could unleash her Noble Phantasm, and Atrocity struck her body. Areadbhar punctured her gut, covering itself in her blood as Dimitri then threw his weapon, and Jeanne by extension, through the air until she landed on the ground. Blood dripping from her lip, and her head-guard having fallen off and onto the ground.
Crushing the head guard underfoot, Dimitir got on-top of Jeanne and gripped his weapon, intending to drive it further through her body, until there was nothing left to kill. He was going to make sure she stayed dead.
Dimitri: It’s time to die!
Jeanne: No… it’s time… to let go…
Suddenly, Jeanne’s right hand grabbed his arm, and she held onto him with miraculous strength. Dimitri’s eye widened as he tried to pull away from her, especially when he noticed a bright fire beginning to form from her very body.
Jeanne: Flamme Pays Étranger!!!!!
The pillar of bright, orange, fiery fury suddenly exploded in Dimitri’s face, obliterating his armor in the process. The very flames which consumed Jeanne d’Arc when she was alive, she now used her body as a catalyst to summon. The flames tore through Dimitri, causing him to scream out in pain and agony as he was launched off of Jeanne, landing among the deceased as he struggled to catch his breath. He horsley gasped for hair, but the burns on his tattered armor, on his exposed skin, showed that he had very much reached his limit.
Even then, he tried to push onwards. He tried to get back up, even when he rolled to the side and saw Areadbhar shattered beside him. He still tried to continue fighting. He only stopped when he saw Jeanne limping over, even with her injuries, she came over towards him, and kneeled downwards.
Dimitri: I… I need… to keep fighting… the dead-
Jeanne: The dead are at peace, Dimitri. Most of the dead, at least.
Much to Dimitri’s surprise, what happened next was not the quick and painful end he expected. Instead, Jeanne carefully lifted his torso up into his arms, holding him close and allowing her holy magic to sooth his pain.
Jeanne: I told you, I came to absolve you of your shackles. You are allowed to know peace now.
His one eye widened, and quickly, Dimitri raised one hand towards Jeanne, which she gladly took into her own hand.
Dimitri: Please… Byleth, Claude, Edelgard… you must… save them…
Jeanne: I will. I promise.
And with those words of reassurance, Prince Dimitri Alexandre Blaiddyd drew his final breath, and died in Jeanne’s arms. Sorrowfully, she laid the noble Prince down, grasping her hands together in prayer.
Jeanne: May you find happiness in your next life.
Conclusion[]
Boomstick: Oh, he totally would’ve won if he got a lucky crit!
Wiz: This was an incredibly close matchup. No, seriously, and just hear us out. In terms of strength and speed, Jeanne and Dimitri were almost even. We know that Rhea could survive two Javelin’s of Light, and since it took both Byleth and Edelgard to defeat her, we can assume this means an individual Heroes’ Relic should be equal to a single Javelin of Light, which can produce an explosion worth 3 Teratons of TnT.
Boomstick: That’s equal to Fafnir’s blast that would have wiped Orleans off the map if Siegfried hadn’t blocked it, so does that mean they're even? Well, Jeanne was able to fight both Fafnir and Jalter at the same time, so it’s more likely that Jeanne had the strength edge of Dimitri. On the other hand, while she could scale to Mordred’s lightspeed attacks, Dimitri could scale to Edelgard dodging Rhea’s light attacks, making Dimitri slightly faster.
Wiz: However, neither had such a big edge that it assured victory, meaning that to figure out who won, the devil came down to the details of their arsenals.
Boomstick: With all his Weapons, Magic, Skills, and Combat Arts, Dimitri certainly had the versatility edge, but it came at a cost. All of Dimitri’s best stuff was on a limit. Between the limited durability of his weapons, sped up by use of Combat Arts, and his limited use of Magic Spells, Dimitri’s versatility could only last so long.
Wiz: It didn’t help that Jeanne’s EX Rank Magic Resistance made all of his offensive Magic and any Combat Arts that infused his weapons with elemental magics practically useless. Quote from Fate/Complete Material 4; “Instead of negating magecraft, it simply diverts the magic elsewhere, making them impossible to hit even by magecraft from the Age of Gods.” No matter how hard he tried, Dimitri’s magic was simply useless in this fight.
Boomstick: While Dimitri was definitely the more trained and experienced fighter of the two, Jeanne’s Revelation Skill has the same properties of the Instinct Skill. Considering Artoria’s A Rank Instinct bordered on precognition and could let her avoid deadly blows from the Gáe Bolg and Tsubame Gaeshi, I think Jeanne’s Revelation Skill, which is also at Rank A, could pretty much the same thing, allowing Jeanne to avoid any lethal blows.
Wiz: Plus, as a Ruler Servant, Jeanne’s Magic isn’t limited in use the same way other Heroic Spirit’s or Dimitri’s Magic is, allowing her to call down holy light or the flames of her Noble Phantasms without any repercussion. Even with her smaller arsenal, Jeanne had everything she needed to either overwhelm Dimitri with pure offense, or stall him out with a solid defense.
Boomstick: Dimitri might’ve gotten a few lucky wins with skills like Seal Movement, but that would only be if he could instantly land a killing blow afterwards, which isn’t guaranteed. Even with his overwhelming Crest Strength, Jeanne’s defeated Saint Martha, who crushes boulders just like he does. She really did have the means to match him in every single way.
Wiz: Dimitri was never going to go down easy, and he certainly had the means to win, possibly even 45% of the time. But when push came to shove, Jeanne’s greater strength and endurance, perfect counters, and powerful Noble Phantasms were too much for Dimitri to handle.
Boomstick: Once Jeanne got A-head-bhar, Dimitri’s Fate was sealed.
Wiz: The Winner is Jeanne d’Arc.
