The King of Fighters VS Tsukihime!!
Two red-haired fighters from twisted and demonic family bloodlines will clash in a fiery brawl for the ages! Will Akiha be able to snuff out Iori's flames, or will Iori show Akiha the true power of the Yagami?!
Interlude[]
Sharaku: Iori Yagami, the Flame of the End from King of Fighters.
MegaSonic: Akiha Tohno, the vermillion heir to the Tohno family.
Sharaku: Two red-headed fighters with a demonic ancestry and a hidden bloodlust will showdown in a fight that’s sure to have a bunch of random-ass combo strings in there. I mean, we kinda gotta, right?
MegaSonic: He’s Sharaku Jr., and I’m MegaSonic ZX, and it’s our job to analyze their weapons, armor, and skills to find out who would win a Death Battle!
Iori Yagami Burns DEATH BATTLE![]
Sharaku: The King of Fighters. A world-wide fighting three-team tournament that attracts all kinds. Anyone, from mob bosses, old drunk men, high schoolers and actual serial killers can join. Nowhere else will you find a stronger collection of warriors ready to duke it out for the title of champion! And one of them, the one here today, certainly draws a ton of attention.
MegaSonic: After the tournament’s original host, Geese Howard, fell off his skyscraper to his “death” at the climax of the second King of Fighters tournament during his battle with Terry Bogard, one Wolfgang Krauser took control of the tournament…only to immediately get his ass washed by mister Bogard again. With both Geese and Krauser out of the picture, the ruthless crime lord Rugal Bernstein stepped in and became the tournament’s new host. This was the worldwide debut of a new hero, Kyo Kusanagi, who just barely scraped out a win against Terry in the finals! One year later, Kyo returned for the next tournament, only to find someone waiting for him.
Sharaku: The red-headed Flame of the End, Iori Yagami. Apparently, he had previous beef with Kyo. Do we ever know why? Well, there is somewhat of an explanation. Y’see, this rivalry goes back centuries! In ancient times, the Yagami, formerly the Yasakani Clan and the Kusanagi Clan were both allies, and they had the same pyrokinetic powers. But one day, the previously sealed Orochi, the snake god who was born from the will of the planet and hated humans, decided to form a terrible plan. Getting his subordinates to kill the Yasakani leader’s wife and frame it on the Kusanagis, the Yasakani turned to Orochi in a desperate bid for power. As such, their flames became purple and their bloodline became cursed. They were now the Yagami, and hated the Kusanagis forever. Now, that all sounds well and good, but as for specifically why Iori hates Kyo? Um… I have no fuckin’ idea. In fact, most if not all of Iori’s past as a child is left in the dark.
MegaSonic: So he hates Kyo not because of family drama, but because he’s Kyo? Now that’s a hater. Iori and Kyo would become lifelong rivals from there. Wherever one shows up, the other is never far behind, usually translating to Iori following Kyo around. Doesn’t help that Iori might be one of the deadliest fighters in the King of Fighters tournaments thanks to his Orochi flames. Seriously, that purple fire is no joke. He can do the typical fireballs you’d expect from a fighting game character, but he can also send his flames flying along the ground, and even amp up his physical attacks by imbuing his limbs with fire.
Sharaku: Interesting fact, that purple fire can actually stun opponents and cause paralysis. Meaning from a more objective stance, his fire kind of surpasses Kyo in utilities. He should bring that up more often as trash talk material. Still, that doesn’t stop them from kicking each other’s asses on even footing every other day of the week. While Iori doesn’t really care much for the ancient family feud, that doesn’t mean he hasn’t picked up a number of techniques from the old family legacy. The aforementioned fireball is the Yami Barai, a purple fireball that travels along the ground and hits low.
MegaSonic: He can Shoryuken your ass with the Oniyaki, or give you the good one, two, overhead with his Aoibana technique. Personally though, my favorite might be the Kototsuki In, where he grabs you by the head, slams you in the ground, and then ignites an explosion in your face. That’s just disrespectful man.
Sharaku: You think Iori cares about respect?
MegaSonic: Lol, no. No course not.
Sharaku: So, in other words, it’s perfect for the guy!
MegaSonic: Exactly. Iori’s a deadly fighter on his own, but when he, Kyo, and this other important girl named Chizuru Kagura had to team up in the 96 tournament to fight the servant or Orochi, Goenitz, they managed to come out on top! And Goenitz wasn’t some mid tier follower either, he was Orochi’s strongest worshiper. And the three of them managed to take him down! Man, those Orochi flames sure are strong! Suuuuuuure would suck if someone were to uh…take them away from him. Sure would suck…
Sharaku: Behold! The number one femboy in fighting games! Ash Crimson, the sneaky bastard with the power to take away other people’s powers once took away Iori’s flames when he was off his guard at the end of KOF XI. But did that stop him? Hell nah. One year later, he went directly into the tournament to not only try to kill Kyo again, but to fuck up Ash Crimson and reclaim his power.
MegaSonic: Tapping into the old Yakasani fighting style prior to their gaining Orochi flames, Iori managed to master that fighting style in just a year, well enough to keep up with Kyo like he’d never lost his powers in the first place. Now he’s got all sorts of claw based attacks like the Nueuchi, Shougetsu, Akegarasu, and Tsuchitsubaki. Hey, it might be an older fighting style, but it gets the job done for Iori.
Sharaku: While he didn’t exactly find Ash Crimson at the tournament, he was able to reclaim his power thanks to some fuckery with that game’s plot. There it was. The chance to leave his curse behind forever. Without those flames, he’d still be strong, and he wouldn’t ever have to worry about any shortened or cursed lifespans.
MegaSonic: And so, Iori…fucking took those flames right back, cursed lifespan and all. Come on, what did you really think was going to happen? Come on, this man is the hater of the century, and no downsides are gonna stop him from abusing the shit out of those flames. In fact, I think it’s safe to say Iori actually got stronger after he got the Orochi flames back, given he gained some new Desperation Moves.
Sharaku: But before that, how could we forget his iconic beefed up super attacks? The Ya Sakazuki is a massive pillar of purple fire that stuns people in its tracks. The Yaotome, or the Maiden Masher, is a massive combo of attacks that end in an explosion of purple flames. Iori can follow up on this deadly move with the Shiki Saika, where he claws you so hard you go flying into the air before he finishes you off with a massive flame blast. Talk about not letting up.
MegaSonic: There’s also the Saku Tsumagushi, which is basically his Shin Shoryuken, Sanjingi no Ni, which is a a bodyslam into a giant ass pillar of fire like in the Sakazuki. But if Iori is ever seriously losing a fight, he can throw caution to the wind and activate his meter install, the Orochi Blood Riot!
Sharaku: The Orochi Blood Riot is a berserk state caused by, you guessed it, his connection to that damn unkillable snake god. In this state, he loses nearly all sense of self and any kind of strategy. No thoughts, head empty. Well, empty of any other emotion other than pure and unbridled rage and bloodlust. So, he basically becomes an exaggerated version of himself. In this state, the Yaotome becomes even more strong as he switches from a well-done combo string of attacks… to just trying to claw your guts out and smash the ground like an angry toddler. He can also regenerate broken bones with a
MegaSonic: He also looks like a fucking zombie! I mean, just look at him! All the official art of him pre KOF All-Star has Orochi Iori look like a shriveled up mess who’s in constant pain! God, I don’t care how much of a buff that power gives him, it can't be good for him to maintain for very long.
Sharaku: Nah, that’s right on the money. This state, while powerful undoubtedly, is definitely not the greatest or most ideal power boost. In fact, it was this state that Orochi himself used to try and kill off Kyo and Chizuru during the KOF ‘97 tournament. Kyo was forced to subdue him before they fought Orochi. And it was in that final climax, where, surprise! That goddamn genocidal environmentalist tried to make Iori go nuts again!
MegaSonic: Wait, M. Bison showed up?
Sharaku: What? No, Orochi! The guy hates humans because they destroy nature.
MegaSonic: Huh. Sounds like he and Bison would get along. Wonder why Capcom and SNK never did anything with that?
Sharaku: But, to Orochi’s surprise, Iori resisted. Through sheer willpower and being the biggest hater of all time, he restrained the god with his final desperate attack, the Sanjingi no Ni. Holding Orochi in the meanest chokehold of all time surrounded in a pillar of flames, he set Kyo up to deliver the final blow, sealing Orochi away. Ever since then, Iori and Kyo have been constant rivals who occasionally work together to shut down Orochi if he or his subordinates ever resurfaces. And he’s even been sort of working on trying to control that Blood Riot of his… to somewhat shaky results.
MegaSonic: Do those shaky results include him splitting clouds?
Sharaku: Oho, yeah they do!
MegaSonic: So, judging by the height of the storm, the size of the split, and the density of the clouds, Iori’s blast would’ve been worth 142 Gigatons of TNT. That’s enough power needed to destroy a large island or two! Man, are we lucky Iori doesn’t just nuke Tokyo when he has a bad day.
Sharaku: Not only is he super strong, he’s really fast as well. He’s fought the French noblewoman, Elisabeth Blanctorche, who controls literal light! Based on how she moves in tandem with its generation, she can move at around 4.3 times the speed of light!
MegaSonic: There’s no denying that Iori’s one tough son of a bitch. Orochi flames or no, you can always count on Iori to be just around the corner, stalking Kyo for another deathmatch and making sure Orochi himself never returns to this world. He may be just, the biggest asshole, and incredibly murderous, but he’s still somehow one of the most dependable fighters to ever grace the King of Fighters tournament.
Sharaku: Funny story, actually. They make it a point to say that one of his only dislikes… is violence.
MegaSonic: …you’re making that up.
Sharaku: Dead fuckin’ serious. Oh yeah, you know he has an adopted sister, too? And apparently an ex-girlfriend-
MegaSonic: Nah dude, there’s no way this man has social relationships. There’s no way that’s canon…oh…wait.
Iori: "There can't be light without shadow! The Flame of the End is here to turn all to ash! IORI YAGAMI."
Akiha Tohno Melts Blood in DEATH BATTLE![]
MegaSonic: Off in a quiet city in Japan, in a world where Maguses are surprisingly commonplace, despite being unknown to the general public, there exists a manor, just outside a town. This manor is home to a family that even the Mages Association call heraticts, believing they abandoned their humanity centuries ago. This is the Tohno family manor, a family of dark horrors and tragedies. Not that you’d know that just by looking at the family’s current head; Akiha Tohno.
Sharaku: A calm, poised and incredibly smart lady for her age, Akiha Tohno is pretty much the number one thing you think of when the word “noble” comes to mind. She studies rigorously, plays the violin, and even runs the Tohno family practically on her own. But beneath the surface lies a turmoiled individual with a heavy secret.
MegaSonic: You see, eight years ago, Akiha and her brother Shiki were playing with their friend from the neighboring family clan of demon hunters, Shiki Nanaya. But around that time, Akiha’s father, Makihisa Tohno, had ordered a man from the Kouma family, one of the branches of the Tohno family, to genocide the Nanaya clan. Shiki Nanaya was the only survivor, and he was adopted into the Tohno family. Thing is, some time after that happened, Shiki Tohno had a violent outburst because, as it turned out, the Tohno family is half Oni, and Shiki Tohno had just succumbed to his demon impulses. He attacked Akiha, who was saved by Shiki Nanaya at the cost of his own life. And then Makihisa killed his son before he could, you know, kill his daughter.
Sharaku: We gotta look back through that family tree of theirs again. Which one decided to do the deed with a demon? I mean, in the long run it kinda fucked over your entire lineage in some way, as due to the fact that the family has Oni blood, they’ll have to constantly keep their bloodlust down in some way. Otherwise, they’ll Invert, giving into their demonic nature and have violent outbursts just like Shiki Tohno.
MegaSonic: However, thanks to a complicated series of events, Shiki Nanaya survived the incident, as Akiha had actually used her oni power to give him part of her life force, saving his life. Because of that, Makihisa had hypnotized Shiki to think he was always a member of the Tohno family by blood, and then shipped him off to live with the Armia family so he could recover from his poor health. Oh, and the other Shiki, the one who’d a Tohno by blood? He also survived by taking part of Shiki Nanaya’s life force, so Makihisa just kind of…locked him in a shed, and hoped that would be the end of it. Eventually though, Makihisa would die due to…plot…and Akiha would become the head of the Tohno family. Intent on writing the wrongs of her father, Akiha summoned Shiki Tohno back to the city of Souya, where she could more closely watch over and protect him.
Sharaku: Wait, ain’t it called Misaki Town?
MegaSonic: Ah, funny thing about that. In the original 2000 release of Tsukihime, the setting is indeed a town called Misaki Town, while in the 2020 remake of Tsukihime, it’s known as Souya. It’s also worth mentioning that while there are some differences in the plot and setting between the original and remake continuities, they are not so different as for them to not be comparable. Thus, we will be drawing on abilities and feats from both continuities for this Analysis, especially as in Akiha’s case, there’s little difference in the function or application of her Oni powers.
Sharaku: Akiha has an extraordinary powerset. Her Oni powers have gifted her with the ability known as Caging Hair, or Origami. This ain’t any folding paper cranes. She can use her hair to absorb the life-force of anyone and anything it touches, igniting it with an absurd amount of heat. Though it should be noted that this ability only works within her field of vision, and it specifically doesn’t burn anything inorganic, like clothes or metal.
MegaSonic: But what Akiha can do is use her powers for, is to utterly burn you alive. Akiha’s a deadly opponent in a fight, as by the events of the Melty Blood series, she’s seemed to gain the ability to release the heat she’s absorbed through her hands in addition as to through her hair, like due to the Magic Circuits all mages in the Nasuverse possess.
Sharaku: What is a Magic Circuit, you may ask? They’re pseudo-nervous systems that exist within humans, and how strong their Magic Circuits are depend on how much supernatural powers they have.
MegaSonic: So you can imagine what kind of crazy shit someone like Akiha can do. She can quickly regenerate minor wounds, or hear serious injuries overnight that would cripple a normal person for a week, enhance her hands with heat to attack with claw-like attacks, grab you and generate a burst of exploding mana, or create wheels of heat to repeatedly damage opponents with her brilliant wheel technique. She can throw waves of heat as a projectile with Painting the Moon, or surround herself with mana using abilities like Brilliant Phantasm and Crushing Beasts.
Sharaku: She can conjure up a remote vertical pillar of energy below the opponent with Piercing the Moon, set the whole ground on fire with Blazing Beasts, create straightforward waves in mid-air with Felling Birds, grab you with hair and drain a ton of your life energy with Red Mistress - Locks of Hair. Man, we’ve got a lotta extravagant names for attacks in this episode, huh?
MegaSonic: Well, they are fighting game characters. But anyways, in dire situations, Akiha can fully tap into her Oni blood and become Vermillion Akiha, where she totally legitimately does a meter install to boost her power and gain awesome red hair. While in her Vermillion State, Akiha teeters on the edge of giving into her Oni impulses becoming a Crimson Red Vermillion, so the Vermillion State isn’t a form to use lightly.
Sharaku: Sounds familiar!
MegaSonic: And while in the Vermillion form, Akiha’s Cage Hair can be used to immobilize opponents to create massive heat explosions with her Scarlet Mistress techniques, envelop a whole high-school, or casually destroy an entire forest. By the time of Melty Blood, Akiha’s even gained the ability to use this form for a somewhat prolonged length of time, long enough to even briefly match everyone’s favorite moon-dropping Funny Vamp, Arcueid! Although, it should be clarified Arcueid was seriously holding back in that fight, so it’s unlikely Akiha actually scales to any of Arcueid’s cosmic shenanigans.
Sharaku: Naturally, due to her Vermillion state being a stronger version of her ordinary state, she gets some incredibly powerful super attacks. Hill of the Crimson Banquet is a full-screen command grab where Akiha creates a massive geyser of her hair ribbons to attack her opponent. How am I supposed to dodge that one? Then, there’s Red Mistress - Ubiquitous, which is a straight up massive laser beam shot from her eyes. And since her powers are based on heat and this thing fires in a straight line, it’s arguable that this specific attack can breach the speed of light! And if that ain’t enough to convince you, there’s also the time she actually straight-up dodged lasers from this robot, who’s a mechanical recreation of one of her maids… for whatever reason.
MegaSonic: Yeah, Kohaku is a bit…unhinged, since Akiha’s dad kind of…had his way with her for a while prior to his death. And while Akiha did everything she could to protect Kohaku, and her sister Hisui, Kohaku had still vowed revenge against the Tohno family, and Akiha’s whole plan to deal with that was to kind of just…let Kohaku take a shot at it. Yeah, not her brightest moment, but they eventually worked things out.
Sharaku: Just fuckin’ take her to a therapist! Or hell, talk it out yourself with her!
MegaSonic: Silly Sharaku, this is the Nasuverse. Nobody gets therapy.
Sharaku: Kinda stupid if you ask me. They’d be having a field day with these characters.
MegaSonic: Well, hypothetical therapy sessions aside, Akiha was still powerful enough to deal with pretty much any assassination attempt Kohaku threw at her. After all, remember how in her Vermillion form she could contend with a restricted and holding back Arcueid? Well, back when Arcueid could casually wield her true power, Arcueid could create massive explosions with just the raise of a hand. Judging by the size of the crater left by the blast, and assuming Arcueid pulverized her target, the force of Arcueid simply raising her hand equals 16 gigatons of TNT, enough to destroy an Island. Akiha herself was even able to one-shot her former brother, who had been infused with the soul of an immortal reincarnating vampire who stole part of Arcueid’s power named Roa, so this scaling isn’t unreasonable either. Weird thing happened when Akiha killed her brother though, she kinda…absorbed the concept of Roa into her, and it nearly drove her mad until Shiki killed the concept of Roa inside her without hurting her at all. Because Mystic Eye bullshit.
Sharaku: Yeah, we’ll skip over most of that explanation for that stuff since we don’t wanna fuck with your brains even more. But hey, everything worked out, right? Shiki was able to save Akiha from some evil Michael Jackson lookin’ vampire, and they were able to keep Kohaku from going completely over the deep end. If that isn’t a good ending, I dunno what is.
MegaSonic: Since then, Akiha has taken up sort of a guardian position. Not so much for the Misaki Town or Souya itself, but rather for those who live in the Tohno manor, such as when the Dead Apostle Ancestor Wallachia showed up and started dragging up the ghosts of the past, and Akiha took it upon herself to stop these spirits so that Shiki or the Maids wouldn’t have too. So be you a vampire from long ago, or a branch of the Tohno family seeking to take her brother away, be on your guard, because when you step into the Scarlet Mistress’ cage, Akiha Tohno will be there with a punishment far worse than death.
Akiha: “Well, I guess you won’t come out since you’ve been charred. In that case, I’ll just boil you out.”
Pre-Battle[]
Sharaku: Alright the combatants are set, let’s end this debate once and for all.
MegaSonic: It’s time for a DEATH BATTLE!!
DEATH BATTLE![]
Tohno Manor, 6:15 PM
Night began to fall on the quiet city as the sun set in the distance, drenching the town in a warm orange color. The wind blew quietly as the Tohno Manor sat peacefully at the top of Misaki Town, overlooking the buildings below. At the mansion’s gate stood a young woman. One of two maids of the manor, Hisui stood patiently, waiting for Shiki Tohno to arrive. It was her specific duty to always wait here for him as he returned from school, or whatever excursions he went on with his various… associates, as much as Shiki protested against it. It was on the later side of things, but thanks to his actions, many of the supernatural occurrences had vanished as of late. At least, the more malicious ones. Arcueid Brunestud, his lover, was responsible for many… strange happenings as of late. She had recently got into a fight with some mysterious entity a few weeks ago. She didn’t say much about it, but what was gleaned is that said entity had a “funny hand”. Whatever that meant.
Suddenly, the air shifted. Faintly hearing the shifting of shoes against the ground, Hisui turned her head in the distance. A figure, shrouded in shadow from the angle, shambled almost listlessly. As it approached, more features could become recognizable. He looked to be a young man, who could have been a high school graduate. He wore a white jacket, a black shirt with a cross pattern in the middle and blue torn jeans. His eyes looked sunken. Making his way past the gates of the manor, he suddenly collapsed. Hisui, who had been watching him with a careful eye, rushed over and placed her hand on his head. He was hot to the touch. Walking back over to the gates of the manor and pushing the button for the intercom, Hisui spoke into the speaker.
Hisui: Akiha-sama. There’s a young individual outside who just collapsed. He looks ordinary enough, but something seems dreadfully wrong with him. Do I have your permission to take him to Kohaku?
Over the intercom, a female voice responded back.
Akiha: Go ahead and bring him in, Hisui.
With her permission secured, Hisui picked up the young man and lifted him inside the mansion. Not two minutes later, a young man in a blue school uniform walking alongside a young blond woman in a white shirt and a purple skirt arrived at the mansion’s gates.
Shiki: Huh, that’s strange. Hisui isn’t here.
Arcueid: Maybe something happened?
Jumping over the gate since no one was there to open it, Shiki and Arcueid walked up to the mansion’s doors. Seeing that they were unlocked, they entered. Absolutely nobody was there to greet them, which was quite unusual. The hallways seemed empty. Walking up to the second floor of the mansion, the two heard talking from one of the wings. It was coming from one of the guest bedrooms. Taking a step in, they opened the door only to find Hisui and Akiha observing Kohaku examine an unfamiliar figure.
Shiki: Huh? What’s going on here?
Akiha: Shiki? Oh, welcome back. I trust you returned safely.
Arcueid: Of course! But uh, who’s that guy?
Akiha: We don’t know. He showed up at the front gate and passed out, and Hisui brought him inside. Kohaku, how is he?
Kohaku: He looks like he’s been heavily sedated. Like, way more than any ordinary human would be for things like surgery. It’s incredible he was able to walk so far in his condition.
Arcueid: Woooah. This guy must be pretty abnormal.
Walking over and gently poking the man’s cheek a few times, a strange tension began building in the hair as Akiha raised a hand to gently rub her eyes. She was not in the mood to deal with Arcueid right now, especially with this unexplainable event going on. And so, Akiha stepped out of the room for a minute, much to Shiki’s confusion, only to return a moment later with a list in her hands.
Akiha: Hisui, can you and Kohaku run to the store and pick up some groceries? Take Arcueid with you, she’ll be able to carry them all with ease.
Hisui: Of course, Akiha-sama.
Arcueid: Whaaaat? No fair.
A few minutes later, the maid sisters had departed with Arcueid in town for Misaki Town proper, leaving the Tohno siblings alone with the mysterious youth. A few moments had passed when the man’s eyes began to twitch. Shifting awake, the young man’s eyes shot open as he looked around the room. Sitting up in the bed with a start, both Akiha and Shiki tensed as they saw him.
Shiki: Well, he’s awake.
Akiha: Good. Hello, sir. Before you ask, you’re in the Tohno residence in Misaki Town. Might I ask who you are?
The man noticed the two individuals standing next to the bedside and gently rubbed his eyes with one hand. Shaking his hand, he began to grow less tense.
Kyo: I’m… Kyo Kusanagi. Uh, how’d I get here, exactly?
Akiha: You collapsed outside. One of our maids brought you inside after she saw you fall. Might I ask what exactly happened?
Kyo: Aha… well, it’s a bit of a troublesome story…
Akiha: Do explain, if you don’t mind. I’m aware you were sedated to a near extreme degree. One that under normal circumstances would be enough to permanently put a human to sleep.
Kyo: Well, I’m certainly not an ordinary human. That’s for sure.
Immediately, that catches both Akiha and Shiki’s attention. The young man holds out his hand in the air and flames spontaneously appear in his palm before flickering out. It was an instant, but both Shiki and Akiha’s eyes went wide from this.
Kyo: I was taken to some science laboratory… I can hardly remember anything about it. Pins and needles, dudes in white lab coats and the whole deal. I felt like I had all my senses dulled… I had to get out of there. But I guess I got tired out.
Shiki: …You’re welcome to stay here as long and you need- woah!
Before Shiki could even finish speaking, he’d already been yanked back by the collar of his shirt by Akiha, who pulled him out into the hallway and closed the door behind them so the two siblings could talk in peace.
Akiha: Shiki, you cannot simply offer people asylum in the Tohno manor.
Shiki: But it’s not right, Akiha. What happened to him, being poked and prodded like that…
Akiha: …Shiki, I’m not saying he cannot be allowed to stay, just that you shouldn’t be so hasty to make such an offer. That flame he lit…it wasn’t demonic, but it certainly wasn’t any sort of natural magecraft either. There was something off about it…but I can’t put a finger on it.
Shiki: Maybe Arcueid would know. We can ask her when she gets back.
The sun had fully set by now, as the once orange sky was now coated in blackness. And out of the blackness outside of the Tohno manor walked another unnatural figure. His red hair stuck out from the darkness in tandem with his similarly crimson pants, while his black overshirt blended in with the night. A crescent moon symbol was etched into the back of it as he walked up to the Tohno Manor’s gates. The man was Iori Yagami. From the side, a black cat with a white bow watches the figure walk inside, strolling past him without notice. Inside, Akiha immediately felt something off. Rushing over to the window, startling both Shiki and Kyo, she looked out across the lawn of the mansion. Faintly, she sensed a malicious presence. Instantly, a loud rattling was heard as the large metal entrance gates to the manor were completely thrown off their hinges.
Akiha: Nii-san! Stay here with our friend. It appears we have an unwelcome guest.
Shiki: Akiha…what are you planning to do?
Akiha: Isn’t it obvious? I have to remove the trash from the yard.
Quickly making her way down to the front entrance and stepping outside, Akiha stared down at the man casually making his way up the front walkway, and glared at him as she shut the doors behind her and stepped down to meet him.
Akiha: You’re intruding on private property. Leave now, before something bloody happens.
The man, who clearly didn’t care too much for what Akiha had to say, asked a question in a low voice.
Iori: Kyo Kusanagi. You’re harboring him, aren’t you? I’m here to kill him.
Evidently, the man was full of malicious intent. Akiha could sense something stirring in the man before her. Brushing her hair to one side, a calm glare crossed her face.
Akiha: Kusanagi-san is a guest of ours. I can't have you trampling over our private property like some savage beast. Now leave, or I will show you the gate myself.
Iori: It seems even here, there's no cure for stupidity. Move, or I'll burn my way through you.
Akiha: ...You need to brush up on your manners.
Raising her hand, a swirl of burning red mana began to envelope around her hand before she pointed her hand out at Iori, firing the heat wave out to scare off the intruder. But Iori just grinned, and dodged the heat attack by leaping forwards over it and landing in a fighting stance, to which Akiha only scowled slightly as he kept her focus locked onto him.
Iori: Seems you wish to die. Fine, I’ll be merciful and provide a quick end.
Snapping his hands, Iori revealed his true abilities and launched forth a blast of purple flames from his palms, running across the ground in a straight path. Akiha quickly jumped to the side and avoided the Yami Barai, which scattered across the ground. Rushing towards Iori, she enveloped her hands in red claw-like energy as she slashed at him. Retaliating with a Shougetsu, Iori’s own hands created streaks of red across the air. Both attacks collided, resulting in the two of them launching each other back from the force of their own moves.
Landing on their feet, Iori dashed after her and performed a Shiki Aoibana, striking Akiha with his rear hand, his other and a double ax-handle punch into Akiha’s head with a three-hit strike. Though she was knocked to the ground, Akiha swiftly spun to her feet and slashed at Iori’s chest with an energy claw, followed up by a kick. Knocking him off balance, Akiha raised her hand upwards as a massive burst of red light carried Iori upward into the air. Leaping after him, Akiha weaved through and cut at him with a series of attacks before grabbing him. Charging up crimson energy into her hands, she created a miniature burst of force, which tossed Iori to the ground. Quickly recovering from the hit, Iori touched the part of his chest that had been hit. Heat. Looking at the burn, Iori just scoffed. He raised a hand, and lit the purple Orochi flame over his hand.
Iori: Heat? Don’t make me laugh. I'll make this quick and easy.
Akiha: What business do you have with Kusanagi-san?
Iori: I’m here to end his life.
Akiha: Yes, I understood that! But why, exactly?!
Iori: That’s no concern of yours.
Throwing his hand forwards, Iori threw the Yami Barai along the ground and headed straight for Akiha, who leaped to the side to avoid the projectile attack. Using that as a chance to rush in, Iori ran forwards and swung his hand down in an overhead slash, only for Akiha to stick her hand out and deflect his attack before she suddenly leaped forwards and kicked him in the chest hard enough to send him flying backwards. Following up on the attack, Akiha lept after Iori mid-air, but he regained his balance mid-air and caught Akiha’s hand as she attacked. Throwing her to the ground, Iori upon landing on his feet grabbed her again and tossed her behind him with a Kuzukaze.
While Akiha was still on her feet, this action disoriented her, opening Iori up to land a jumping kick. Continuing his attack with a Yumebiki, Iori slashed at her with his hand once before hitting Akiha in the chest with a backhanded fist. Running up to Akiha and maneuvering behind her, he dug his nails into the back of Akiha’s chest as he tossed her over his shoulder with a Saka Sahahagi throw. Not to be outdone, Akiha upon making contact with the ground immediately bounced upward and flipped to land on her feet. Leaping into the air, Akiha created several slices of red energy, cutting Iori with a Brilliant Phantasm. Landing back on the ground while Iori was still elevated above the ground, she performed a quick roundhouse kick to keep him momentarily airborne before planting the boot of her shoe directly into his back with a heavy forward stomp, her arms crossed while doing so. The attack launched Iori directly into one of the trees planted in the lawn, snapping it in half.
Akiha: Storming onto and destroying another’s private property is heavily disruptive. If you don’t wish to die here and choose to surrender now, I’ll be sending you the repair fees.
Iori: What makes you think I care? If you’re so insistent on protecting Kyo, I’ll tear through you to get to him.
Akiha: …You don’t seem to respect anything, do you? No matter. I’ll simply beat it into you.
Iori: I do have respect. For the dead. And so you shall be.
Silently cursing herself, knowing that Arcueid might have made a similar statement, lamented the fact that the vampire likely was rubbing off on her. Lifting up her hand in response to Iori’s taunt, Akiha projected a massive buzzsaw of red energy towards Iori, who roll-dodged out of the way as the Brilliant Wheel sliced apart the ground, sending debris everywhere. Rushing after Akiha, purple flames in his hand, Iori prepared a Kototsuki In as Akiha did something similar. Their hands met and so did the red and purple energy, causing a brief explosion of force before Akiha’s attack overtook Iori’s, engulfing him in the Cage Hair. Instantly, a stream of red heat erupted from the ground, sending Iori flying. Skidding across the ground, Iori stumbled to his feet as he landed back from the attack.
Akiha: While you’re still breathing, I’d like to ask. What exactly are you? You certainly act differently from the other vampires I’ve met, so I doubt you’re one of them.
Iori: I’m no vampire.
Akiha sighs in response to the rather plain and blunt answer, pressing her hand to her forehead in agony. Even Arcueid hadn’t irritated her this badly before. And even then, it was always due to how over-the-top and bubbly she was. This man standing in front of her was the exact opposite. Totally unsociable, blunt, and very violent. It was like she was looking in a funhouse mirror.
Akiha: Must I restrain you in order to get you to talk?
Iori: You’re welcome to try.
In that instant, Akiha lunged forwards as the tips of her hair began shifting red, and she threw a clashed slash at Iori that she knew that he’d block, she instead let her hair and heat aura swirl around Iori as she restrained him down with her Cage Hair, bringing Iori down to her level so she could meet him eye to eye. The hair seared Iori’s skin to the touch from several different angles, wrapped around all of his limbs as he was strung up in the air like he was caught in a spider web.
Akiha: Answer my question, now. You have no power in my domain.
Iori: …What a farce.
Channeling his flames into his own body, Iori was surrounded in a purple aura as the hairs restraining him were soon burnt. Landing back on the ground, he gave Akiha a venom-filled glare.
Akiha: Fine. If you have no wish to properly cooperate, I’ll simply burn you to cinders.
Iori lunged forwards at Akiha with his Akegarasu attack, quickly slashing her before sticking his leg out to jab at her feet and further knock her off balance, giving him the chance to perform a quick three hit slash combo before using his Kototsuki In, grabbing Akiha’s head and slamming her into the ground before igniting his flame to blast her face further into the ground, then punting her with one more kick just for the amusement of watching her body to flying across the yard.
As Akiha began pushing herself back onto her feet, she suddenly saw Iori coming at her with both his hands alight with purple fire. Iori thrust both his hands forwards, and Akiha quickly dodged to the side to avoid getting burnt alive. As she did though, the purple flames still fired out, the ground lighting up with purple flames that began scorching the sides of the manor. As Iori glanced back to see the results of his attack, he began to chuckle, and then laugh loudly at the turn of events.
Iori: Ha…hahahaha!! I hope your house is built to last, spoiled brat, or else it might just collapse in on Kyo! HAHAHAHAHA!!
Akiha: Why, you…!
Clenching her fist with irritation, Akiha’s hair began to glow as it shifted from her usual raven black hair to a bright vermillion-red. It was time for Akiha to stop holding back.
Akiha: You’re going to die for that!
As Iori continued to laugh, Akiha suddenly appeared in front of him and jabbed her fist square into his gut, causing Iori to let out a surprised gasp as he staggered slightly. Pressing her opening, Akiha lit her hands aflame with heat claws and began clashing Iori repeatedly in a rapid beat before she kicked him into the air, leaping up after him to slash him a few more times before she summoned a heat pillar to grab Iori and drag him back down with Piercing the Moon.
Dropping back down on the ground, Akiha’s eyes narrowed as she focused all the stored up heat in her body, focusing it into one point in her body, and then unleashed her Red Mistress - Ubiquitous outwards in a massive beam of heat and mana, tearing up the ground as it slammed into Iori and sent him flint towards the gates he had knocked over when arriving. Fire scorched the ground as the attack finally died down, and Akiha took a moment to catch her breath.
Akiha: …If you’re still alive, and you're smart…walk away.
Throwing the entire gate off of him into the air, Iori got to his feet. The gate landed onto the ground with a massive crash, scattering dust everywhere. His expression grew back to the serious one from before, the sense of malicious joy now gone from his face.
Akiha: Very well. Seems I’ve overestimated your intelligence.
Brushing himself off, he returned to his fighting stance. Purple flames collected in his hands as Iori released the Ya Sakazuki, sending forth a massive traveling pillar of fire towards Akiha at high speeds. Not having enough time to fully move out of the way, Akiha defended by covering herself in a wall of her own hair, defending her from the heat of Iori’s flames. The eruption of fire created a huge crater in the center of the Tohno Manor’s entrance, destroying the fountain nearby and turning the water in it to steam within seconds. After the attack subsided, Akiha leapt out of the dust, catching Iori off-guard to grab him by the throat and toss him backward. Akiha kept up the pressure with a hectic series of slashes and strikes.
Akiha’s sudden burst of speed thanks to her transformation had thrown Iori off, and she was certain to take advantage of that fact as much as possible. Breaking Iori’s guard with a kick, she kicked him in the legs, causing him to tilt forward. Following up with a double-striking claw slash that launched Iori up into the air, Akiha performed a flashy series of foot strikes that ended in a snap-kick to the ground. Not content with that, Akiha set the ground on fire with Blazing Beasts, Iori landing directly into the heated area, searing his back. Quickly leaping off of the ground and into the air, Iori tossed out a mid-air Yami Barai, but due to the attack not functioning as well as it would in the air, Akiha simply held her hand out to catch the blast of fire, absorbing the heat. Iori landed back on the ground, his eyes narrowing. Akiha rushed after him, but Iori shifted behind her and performed a Shinigami ax-kick. Catching his leg before it could hit her, Akiha lifted him by it and tossed him directly into the ground, face first.
Iori began to push himself off the ground, but Akiha suddenly landed on top of him, pressing her boot into the back of his head to slam his face into the ground again, using her Cage Hair to hold him down and allowing her to focus. Drawing heat in from the surrounding fire, Akiha focused it into her hand and unleashed her Crimson Hammer, a massive explosion of heat iginighting under the two of them before firing upwards and exploding out around the Tohno manor, incinerating the grass and flowers, and catching the trees on fire. Akiha stepped backward, getting off Iori as her hair flickered in and out of the Vermillion state for a moment and she took a minute to catch her breath. She nearly fell over, and had to resort to drawing in more excess heat from the fires she and Iori had created just to keep her body flowing with enough mana to remain conscious.
But that was it, right? Surely, she’d have to have won by now…right?
No.
His body trembling, Iori lifted his face up slowly, getting Akiha’s boot off of him. Stumbling to his feet, he pushed Akiha away from him before wiping his mouth.
Iori: Playtime’s over.
Lifting his arms up in a striking pose, Iori rushed down Akiha, performing a lengthy series of quick attacks one after the other. Punch after punch, slash after slash, kick after kick. The series of wild strikes continued over and over as the Yaotome continued. But for every hit that landed, Akiha was able to evade three or four more. Iori tried to grab Akiha by her collar and leaned forward to slam his head into her for a devastating headbutt, but she was able to duck under it, causing the explosion of purple flames to miss her entirely. Flipping upward and kicking Iori below the jaw, he was sent onto the ground.
Akiha: You were right. Playtime is over. Now go to sleep.
Stretching her hand out, Akiha’s hair entangled Iori’s body. Instead of searing it with incredible heat, however, she chose to take a different strategy. The fighter could slowly feel the energy leaving his body. His hands became engulfed in flames, but they immediately flickered out. She was absorbing his life force. Struggling against the threads and tugging lightly at the strings that ensnared him, Iori felt sluggish.
Raising her leg to kick Iori in the gut, Akiha forced him down onto her knees as she continued to absorb his life force, and with it, a portion of the Orochi Flames. She raised her hand, and the purple spark ignited at her fingers, before a full ball of fire was staring Iori in the face. Akiha smirked, prepared to launch the attack, and ironically end Iori with his own power…
Akiha: Now, peris-
But before she could finish, the flames suddenly began to burn her hand. Akiha winced in pain for a second before the Orochi fire in her hand combusted in a purple explosion that sent her reeling backwards and threw her straight into the ground. For a moment, her vision blurred, and as she blinked once, then twice, she saw Iori stand back up sluggishly, covering his face with one hand.
Iori: Haha…hahaha!!! The Orochi flames… you could never hurt me with them. Hahahaha…HAHAHAHA!!!! YOU’VE JUST SIGNED YOUR DEATH WARRANT!!!!
For a split second, Iori began to double over, covering his face with both of his hands. Noticing that he was completely open to an attack, Akiha rushed at him, her hands surrounded in a piercing red aura. She was mere inches away from Iori when she saw his eyes.
They weren’t like they were before, with a deep red iris. No, they were completely blank, almost yellowed out. Akiha only had a moment to process Iori’s unnerving appearance before he wildly clawed upward. Instantly, the ground beneath Iori flew upward as the stone ground below was ripped asunder. If Akiha hadn’t anticipated the attack a moment before and jumped back, she would have been hit. Letting out a guttural roar which could be heard even within the walls of the Tohno Manor, Iori howled to the sky, underneath the moonlight. Akiha looked on in horror as Iori, now hunched over, exuded steam from his body and his mouth hung open. His face was contorted in a mortifying and unhinged grin. Slowly lurching forward, Iori’s gaze rested on Akiha. The Orochi Blood Riot had taken control.
Akiha: You demon…!
Iori had no response for that. Even if he was capable of forming conscious sentences, there was no arguing against it. Iori had given in. Dragging himself towards his enemy, his only want and need was the sight of blood. Due to the fact that his mentality was akin to that of a wild animal, Akiha couldn’t exactly read his expressions immediately, having to look for cues in body language. But even then, that didn’t help when Iori leapt forward without warning, both of his palms filled with flames. Akiha sidestepped him, but immediately was thrown off balance when, upon Iori’s contact with the ground, his hands created a massive explosion of purple flames that ripped the ground apart. The Tohno Manor began to shake with the sheer force emitted from the fighters’ attacks.
The force of the explosion sent Akiha flying upwards into the air, and she flipped around to make sure she landed on her feet on the side of the Manor’s walls before launching herself outwards and back into the fight. Iori, letting out an unearthly roar, just jumped into the air to meet Akiha and hit her with a flaming punch to beat her back into the ground. Purple fire flowered across his body as he sent out streaks and waves of more Orochi flames, the fires surrounding the arena grew more intense as he fell downwards, slamming into the ground as Akiha narrowly dodged away, and he let out another yell as a torrent of fire spewed from his mouth like a flamethrower.
Akiha winced as she leaped to the side, a troubled look on her face. Despite having plenty of excess heat to keep herself fighting, the obvious double-edged sword was really starting to show itself; she was starting to struggle maintaining her sanity, and keeping from going full Oni, something she would not allow herself to do. Furthermore, she could tell that despite all her best efforts, she simply was not strong enough to defeat this opponent in a straight up fight. The only option she had to win was a cheap shot, one with all of her accumulated power put into it.
Luckily, she had plenty of extra heat to draw in to make that last hit count.
As Iori slashed and swiped at her, Akiha grunted in pain as one of his attacks broke through her block and managed to draw blood, and his next flaming punch came flying around decking her in the face. But when Iori moved in to shove his fist through her skull, that was when Akiha weaved around Iori and got behind him as her hair shot out, flying around forming what was clearly a cage around not just him, but the whole front yard of the Tohno manor. The cage glowed a bright red, only glowing brighter by the second as the heat of the fires Iori created absorbed into her hair.
This was it. All or nothing.
Akiha: NOW, GO TO HELL!!!!!!
The gambit was launched, and the entire cage was engulfed in a mass explosion of heat and mana, Iori scream echoing outwards for miles as he was caught in the inescapable blast, a white light blindingly going off before smoke filled the yard.
Orange-yellow fires flickered all across the yard. Akiha fell to her knees, gasping for breath, barely keeping herself from collapsing only through sheer stubbornness.
But she had…
???: Ha…ha…haaaaaaa…
Failed. She had failed.
As the flickering orange flames began to turn purple, Akiha’s eyes widened in disbelief as Iori stood in the same position he had just prior to the explosion going off, his clothes torn and his body clearly covered in blood, but he was still standing.
He was still fighting. But she had nothing left to fight with. She was nearly completely drained.
Iori took a step forward, approaching her.
Akiha: G-Get away from me! Leave!
Iori lurched forward as his broken bones snapped themselves into place. Instinctively regaining consciousness through his supernatural willpower, the purple flames coating the mansion’s walls swirled around Iori in a large torrent of fire. Slowly straightening himself out as he walked towards Akiha, his eyes slowly faded back into their original crimson as opposed to their previously blank state. Akiha’s hair began to flicker, changing from red to black, then back to red.
Mustering what she could from the surrounding areas, she drew heat into herself. Raising her fists, she screamed as she lunged forward towards the now motionless Iori. His expression was unreadable. No snarky comments, no unhinged laughter. Not even a full scowl. As Iori sidestepped her attack, Akiha began to careen towards the ground. Grabbing her by the collar of her shirt before she could hit the ground and lifting her up by her neck with both of his hands, Iori channeled one last force of purple flames.
Akiha attempted to wrap her hair around him in one last attempt, but it sizzled and burst into flames upon contact with his skin. Akiha’s hands clawed at Iori’s arms desperately, but Iori paid no mind as his final attack, the Sanjingi no Ni, completely engulfed Akiha in a massive pillar of purple flames. Exceeding the mansion’s borders, the blast of fire touched the clouds themselves before completely parting them, revealing the night sky in its full glory. Letting out one final cry of pain, Akiha’s body slipped into unconsciousness as her limp form hit the ground, completely and totally drained. The flames, as soon as they appeared, died, replaced by a small drizzle from the splitting of the sky above. Shambling towards the mansion, beaten and bruised, Iori Yagami had won the fight.
Throwing open the mansion’s doors, Iori was immediately greeted by Shiki Tohno, who had pulled out his knife. His glasses were off, his eyes now glowing a stark blue. Lunging at the unfamiliar face with his weapon fully drawn, his intent to kill was reaching its limits. However, Iori wasn’t in the mood for another fight. Sidestepping the boy’s attempt to cut him apart, Iori tossed the boy by his head into the side of the wall, crashing through a wooden chair along the way. Slowly making his way up the steps of the manor’s main entrance way into the hall above, Iori fought to stay awake. Sensing a familiar presence nearby, he threw open the door to the guest bedroom.
Down below, Shiki struggled to his feet. His forehead was bleeding. Grabbing his knife that he had dropped, he made his way up the stairs. Seeing Iori turn the corner into the guest bedroom, he raced after him. The battered Iori had entered one of his famous staredowns with Kyo Kusanagi, who had gotten up from the bed and raised his fists in his standard fighting stance.
Shiki: Get away from him!
Iori, turning around, engulfed his hand in a purple flame again. His fists ablaze, he lunged forward as-
His fist never connected with Shiki’s face. Akiha, who had somehow managed to make her way from the front yard, through the entrance and up the stairs, stood in front of Shiki, protecting her brother. Her hair had reverted back to its suppressed black color, and her arms were outstretched in front of him, blocking him from any attack.
Akiha: You will not… lay a finger on my brother…!
Iori’s fist shook. The flames on his hand continued to burn before flickering out. Immediately turning around and shoving both his hands in his pockets, he scoffed.
Iori: How depressing.
Walking around them, Iori exited the room, leaving Akiha and Shiki completely dumbfounded. He just decided to… leave? Just like that? After everything? Akiha, seeing that he had decided to take his leave, immediately collapsed to her knees on the floor, sweat from her forehead dripping onto the floor from the lingering heat. Silence permeated through the room.
Shiki: Why did he… just decide to go?
The question filled the room, before Kyo realized something. He had off-handedly heard a rumor about Iori. He never knew if it was completely true, but he had an idea.
Kyo: If I had to guess… I’d say something reminded him of his adopted sister.
Akiha froze upon the mention of that. It all made sense now. The room returned to its quiet state, before Kyo realized something. Something far more drastic. At least to him.
Kyo: …WAIT, IORI!
Running out of the guest room and down the stairs, Kyo managed to catch Iori at the front doors to the manor.
Kyo: Iori, take me with you! I don’t have any money to take the bus home!
The two rivals stood in silence for a moment before Iori scoffed, and kept walking.
Iori: …hurry up then, dumbass.
Giving a slight smile, Kyo quickly ran outside after Iori. As the two made their way across the scorched front yard of the Tohno Manor, the rivals passed by the returning maid duo, as well as Arcueid, who was carrying the bags of groceries they had purchased. Kyo gave them a quick wave goodbye before he and Iori disappeared, although Hisui and Kohaku both looked utterly shocked to see the damages done to the Manor and the front yard. Arcueid, however, just kept on walking inside to go see Shiki again.
And so ended the brief once in a lifetime meeting of the Yagami and the Tohno.
KO!?
Conclusion[]
MegaSonic: Dear god, I can’t imagine how much that property damage is gonna cost.
Sharaku: That front yard will never be the same again. This fight was an interesting one to look into. Both had absurd amounts of strength, willpower and special techniques that kept the fight generally even. However, eventually one side would break, and you know how Iori is with breaking things.
MegaSonic: With Iori only being twice as fast, speed was mostly a non-factor in this fight. But one thing that was definitely a factor was strength. While Akiha could scale to Arcueid’s casual 16 Gigaton hand raise, that doesn’t much compare to Iori’s 142 Gigaton cloud-split. That’s a roughly 8 times difference in power right there!
Sharaku: It should be worth noting that Iori’s feat of splitting the clouds was done in his Orochi state. In his base state, Iori was actually only around five gigatons, a decently smaller amount than Akiha’s. However, since our goal is to analyze characters at their strongest potential, this wouldn’t really matter. Besides, Iori’s got plenty more within his wide range of abilities to keep himself in the fight. While Akiha is an incredibly skilled fighter in her own right, she is by no means anywhere near as experienced as Iori when it comes to hand-to-hand combat. This guy has been fighting tooth and nail against some of the craziest foes out there and he’s still kicking.
MegaSonic: Sure, Akiha can keep up with immortal beings like Arcueid and Ciel in combat, but she’s typically fighting them when they’re holding back to at least some extent. Sure, she’s fought a serious Ciel once or twice in Melty Blood, but it’s still hardly comparable to Iori’s own skill and experience, given Iori could fight similarly immortal beings like Orochi, who has a millennium of experience just existing. That said, Akiha wasn’t completely outmatched. Given her ability to absorb heat, souls, and even concepts, it was unquestionable that Akiha could absorb the Orochi flames from Iori, actually nullifying most of his flame based attacks. That said, while it meant Akiha could shut down a large part of Iori’s offense, she didn’t really have a way to capitalize on that.
Sharaku: For one, even if she could assimilate Iori’s flames into herself, there’s nothing in the visual novels to suggest that she can actually utilize the powers she absorbs from other people. Otherwise, she’d have the ability to use SHIKI Tohno’s special Mystic Eyes or to crystallize his own blood, but no such thing exists. But not only do the Sacred Treasure’s flames burn people who aren’t a part of their bloodline, ensuring Akiha wouldn’t be able to use it for too long without hurting herself, Iori isn’t able to be hurt by his own flames at all. And top it all off, Iori actually did lose his flames at one point in canon, but he never actually got physically weaker because of this, and was able to keep up fine with his Yasakani claw style of fighting. Not to mention Akiha would have trouble absorbing his life energy to begin with, considering Orochi himself has an attack that rips out a piece of the opponent’s soul.
MegaSonic: Now, we also know that Akiha can maintain better mental control in her Vermillion form than Iori could when using the Blood Riot, but that didn’t really amount to much. Orochi Iori may have been no thought, head empty, only murder, but he was strong enough to just brute force his way through all Akiha’s attacks until he got to her, so it didn’t really matter. Plus, that two times speed difference we mentioned may not seem like much, but in the long run it was going to make sure Iori could get into Blood Riot before taking a lethal blow, and make sure he could land a fatal attack first, even if just by a second. Even if Akiha did land a serious blow on Iori, he’s got a healing factor that can heal shattered bones in seconds, which is far more impressive than Akiha’s own healing capabilities. After all, Akiha died from a mortal blow to the chest in Hisui’s route of Tsukihime, while Iori has shrugged off similar deadly injuries before. Akiha really just didn’t have a way to keep him down for long, while all Iori needed was one clean shot to seal the deal and take home the win.
Sharaku: Akiha was a hair's length away, but she just couldn't take the heat.
MegaSonic: The winner is Iori Yagami.
