Inspector Gadget might have once been a detective named John Brown, according to the movies anyways, one story is that he died in an explosion set off by Dr. Claw, the other is that he slipped on a banana peel, what really matters is when he became known as Inspector Gadget, a globe-trotting detective after the evil organization known a Mad, after his accident he was upgraded with several gadgets inside his body, which allowed him to become a better detective, Inspector Gadget was perfectly happy with this change, and went on his way to try and solve some cases.
