Description[]
Sonic the Hedgehog vs. Devil May Cry. Nothing but power matters to them.
Introduction[]
Wiz: If there's one thing that motivates people towards unsavory acts, it's the promise of power.
Boomstick: Over what you may ask? Why, absolutely anything. Enough to drive one to taking on an entirely new identity.
Wiz: Like Infinite, the master of the Phantom Ruby.
Boomstick: And Urizen, the Nefarious Usurper of the Demon World. He's Wiz and I'm Boomstick.
Wiz: And it's our job to analyze their weapons, armor and skills to find out who would win a Death Battle.
Infinite[]
Wiz: Many a time the nefarious Doctor Eggman had attempted to take over the world, with each attempt being countered by a certain supersonic hedgehog. Even the scheme of getting rid of that particular nuisance by creating a robotic double to take him out ultimately fell short and then some.
Boomstick: But there was one time, however, when Eggman came really damn close to winning. And it was all thanks to his latest assets, which he combined together into his ultimate weapon.
Wiz: It all started when Eggman made a change in workplace policy and brought in non-robotic agents into his army in the form of the Jackal Squad, a freelancer mercenary group who threw their lot in with him when their leader got promised his ideal world, one that was in ruins and devoid of life, by the mysterious Phantom Ruby that Eggman held. It wasn't until a humiliating defeat at the hands of Shadow the Hedgehog that he would get the Phantom Ruby to make his vision a reality.
Boomstick: Literally, in fact, and we'll tell you why in a minute. With the Phantom Ruby, or at least one version of it, the ultimate mercenary took on another title that also boasted about his best of the best attitude; Infinite.
- Background
- Height: 3'3>
- Species: Jackal
- Former leader of the Jackal Squad
- Eggman's enforcer
- Archenemy of the Avatar
- Doesn’t want to be weak
- Can be replicated with the Avatar creator
Wiz: Infinite quickly proved to be possibly the most effective creation of Eggman. Thanks to him, he was able to conquer basically the entire world in as little as six months. Not even Sonic springing to action was able to slow him down.
Boomstick: Leaving the rest of his friends to form what else, but a resistance against the new eggy world order and the edgy guy who made it all possible. All thanks to the power of the Phantom Ruby, which is freaking weird.
Wiz: Well, what Infinite wields is technically a finalized prototype of what appears to be a Phantom Ruby copy but yes, the ability it grants is indeed weird. At first glance it appears to be simple reality warping but in truth, it's the manipulation of the reality that others view.
Boomstick: In other words, it generates 'real' illusions. Illusions that actually work like the things they're of.
Wiz: Think of it as your mind making it real. For example, if the Phantom Ruby creates an illusion of a rock being thrown at you, the rock may not be real but the impact you would feel will be.
- The Phantom Ruby
- Generates illusions
- Flight
- Laser Beams
- Turret Creation
- Barrier generation
- Duplicate generation
- Gravity manipulation
- Null Space access
- Virtual Sun generation
- V. Maximum Overdrive
- Generates illusions
Boomstick: But Infinite doesn't use the Phantom Ruby to make throwing stones. He has much more imagination when it comes to wrecking havoc, like unleashing blasts or beams of energy from his hands, and that's when he doesn't just conjure up giant turrets to bombard his targets.
Wiz: Usually when he's floating in the air above them. And with the offensive means of the Phantom Ruby also comes some fairly defensive ones that also pack a bit of hurt. He can generate blockades of, well, blocks to smash his foes with and cover an entire area in. Like the glow that comes whenever he messes with its gravity.
Boomstick: Would be a pretty fun experience if only he didn't use it to terrorize others, like he does with the copies of not just himself, but other past Sonic villains. We're talking the ancient god Chaos, the metal menace Metal Sonic, the Sonic version of Bowser Zavok and even of Shadow, likely as a means of ruining his reputation for what he did to him. And all these goons are only when he's not making copies of himself.
Wiz: Even more than that, Infinite can create what can only be described as monstrous versions of himself which are as big as skyscrapers.
Boomstick: Letting him breach nightmare fuel uncanny valley without going .exe. And speaking of Metal Sonic, Infinite took for himself one of his technique, V. Maximum Overdrive, which not only covers him in a damaging aura but also increases his speed by four. And considering that he's already slightly faster than Sonic, whose top running speed is about a third the speed of light, then that means Infinite must be slightly over the light speed threshold. But if brute force doesn't turn out to be enough, then Infinite can do a pro-gamer move and banish them to a desolate reality called Null Space. With twice the speed of what Sonic is capable of, escape is pretty much impossible.
Wiz: And let us not forget Infinite's biggest and most powerful ability. With enough power, he can generate a massive sun which he then simply drops.
Boomstick: And let me tell you, as awesome as Sonic characters go, there's no walking away from being crushed by a friggin' sun. You know, stepping back and looking at it all, Infinite actually lines up with what most people associate those 'ultimate enemy OCs', and not just in the Sonic fandom. He's faster than the main hero, easily beats him, has a Legion of Doom of other impressive enemies and has an utterly dark characterization.
Wiz: Well, no one ever said Sega is afraid to poke fun at itself.
Boomstick: And the Fun is Infinite! Remember that? Cause I sure as hell wish I didn't.
- Feats
- Conquered most of the world in 6 months
- Dodged Sonic's Dash point blank
- Generated a sun
- Wiped out the Resistance attack
- Interfered with the Master Emerald
- Took a Double Boost from Sonic and the Avatar
- Defeated Sonic, Silver, Omega
Wiz: During his tenure as Eggman's enforcer, Infinite certainly stepped up the task of being a ruthless destroyer, laying waste to entire armed forces and decimating cities. And of course, besting Sonic and others in direct combat, like Silver and the machine Omega.
Boomstick: He even managed to completely repel an attack by the Resistance, slaughtering over 80% of their combined forces with illusions so good, not even the omniscience of the Master Emerald can keep tabs on him. And when it came to putting the new kid, our Avatar, down, forget about it! Really, the only thing holding him back was the classical villain flaw of his pride.
Wiz: With the need to constantly flaunt his superiority to others, Infinite has made the mistakes of letting them fight another day. And on those days they were able to eventually overwhelm him.
Boomstick: The huge amounts of energy the Phantom Ruby needs doesn't exactly help matters either. And once he had run his course, Eggman was all too happy to bust out the real Phantom Ruby to be the last boss yet again. Still, when he had the power of the Phantom Ruby, Infinite may not have been all powerful, but in the power department, he was pretty far from weak.
Urizen[]
Wiz: The rivalry between the Sons of Sparda, Dante and Vergil, had reached a point where one of them had been left mentally and physically broken.
Boomstick: Being forced to become a puppet for their archenemy, Mundus, was the main reason behind Vergil's degrading state. Not to surprising, considering that Dante had to kinda explode him to beat him.
Wiz: Close to death, he sought out his lost weapon, Yamato, which was currently in the demonic hand of his son Nero. And since we mean that literally, Vergil ripped it right off his body, reclaiming his sword. And, with his mind not in the right state, he stabbed himself with it. Whilst we would usually say such an action is typically of being mentally unbalanced, in this case, there was another reason it wasn't the best course of action.
Boomstick: Thanks to the unique properties of Yamato, Vergil was separated into two beings; his Nobody and his Heartless.
Wiz: Actually, his demon and human sides. Although you could probably label them with Kingdom Hearts terms given what an absolute monster the demonic half of Vergil was. One that his human half, V, christened only as Urizen.
- Background
- Age: More than a month old
- AKA Nefarious Usurper
- The new demon king
- Vergil's demonic half given form
- Name is a pun on the phrase "your reason"
Boomstick: Either he got it from the book he's carrying around with him or because of the pun he got when he told Dante that he was "Your reason to fight". "Your reason". "Urizen". Get it? Although with a comment like that, one might think he was talking about Mundus instead.
Wiz: Well, regardless of if he was being deliberately vague to get Dante to bring into action, it was a necessary move, considering Urizen had a plan to attain even more power than what he already had.
Boomstick: Through what else, but gardening. By feeding a big old tree enough blood, it would sprout fruit that when consumed would give him a massive boost in strength. Not that he wasn't already plenty powerful himself, possessing enough strength to shatter a legendary magic sword in a single strike.
- Abilities
- Superhuman attributes
- Projectiles
- Raining energy attacks
- Energy beam attacks
- Flaming boulders
- Blue fire summoning
- Time slowing orbs
- Shockwave generation
- Teleportation
- Summoning spikes
Wiz: Urizen also possesses a wide range of long ranged attacks that he can spam non-stop. He can made it rain lasers, fire massive boulders comparable to meteors and sweep the area with energy beams. He can command blue fire to erupt from beneath someone, unleashing shockwaves from himself that can send others flying back and even fire out bubbles that slow down the flow of time for anything caught within them.
Boomstick: He can slip through portals and summon demonic spikes to turn any demon hunter into a shish kebab. Which, by the way, doesn't seem to be directly tied to his ownership of the big tree, since he can use this ability after shedding his root armor.
- Arsenal
- Qliphoth
- Giant tree
- Feeds on blood
- Fuels Urizen
- Roots can be utilized for offense
- Red Crystal
- Defends against attacks
- Can sprout spikes
- Qliphoth
Wiz: The Qliphoth Tree is comprised of massive demonic roots that seek out humans to suck the blood from, which Urizen then feeds on to sustain himself on top of cultivating his empowering fruit. Not to mention it covers him head to toe in brambly armor outfitted with roots that can jab out to attack.
Boomstick: Or he can command them to straight up sprout out of the ground to attack. Just like the weeds in my garden.
Wiz: Wait, you garden?
Boomstick: Sure. Where else do you think I get my ingredients for my moonshine? But whilst Urizen can deal a solid hit, he doesn't much like taking them in spite of his own healing factor, which is why he employs a floating red crystal to defend himself. No matter which angle someone attacks from, that crystal will always swing around to protect him.
Wiz: Whilst it can be destroyed with enough effort and perseverance, it's an uphill task without overwhelming force and can always dish out damage by sprouting crystal spikes. And, fittingly, it's actually Yamato in a different form. Guess no matter what form Vergil takes, he always keeps his signature weapon with him, although we all know V wasn't so lucky in that regard. Nor was he in his plan to get Dante and others to bring down Urizen, at least not at first.
- Feats
- Shattered Rebellion in a single punch
- Said to have shook the world whilst fighting Dante
- Successfully grew the Qliphoth fruit
- Took hits from Dante's Sin Devil Trigger form
- Took over the underworld in less than a month
- Created Artemis and Cavaliere Angelo
- Defeated Trish, Lady, Nero, Dante
Boomstick: Urizen was so tough, he was able to defeat all our favorite demon slaying badasses without even getting up from his throne!
Wiz: Not even Dante, who had by this point surpassed even his father in power, was a match for Urizen initially, although their first clash was said to possess enough contesting power to shake the very world itself, and thus produce energy worth over a teraton of TNT.
Boomstick: Urizen outright said that the power of his father's sword was of no use to him after swatting Dante away, so you know that previous demon kings like Mundus and Argosax are insignificant compared to his. Makes you wonder if Vergil's human blood really was polluting the power given by his demon heritage.
Wiz: Well, it was more likely due to how Vergil had trouble accepting both halves of himself. When Dante achieved this internal balance, it gave him the Sin Devil Trigger, which finally enabled him to match Urizen. In turn, the Nefarious Usurper went on to consume the Qilphoth's fruit, gaining far more power than what he already had.
Popup: Mundus himself once used the fruit to give himself a level of power to defeat the original demon king, Pluto. Considering the level of power Urizen already had, the fruit likely increases the amount of power one already had rather than bring it to a specific level.
Boomstick: Too bad he didn't get to enjoy it. Thanks to being a separate part of Vergil, he was the part that lacked any finesse or skill, resorting only to spamming magical attacks with no thought behind them. Whilst he can still throw a punch or kick, Dante's actual skill and newly acquired power enabled him to finally bring Urizen down, ripe for V to refuse back into Xenhanort, with him. I mean Vergil.
Wiz: Even after his cessation of existence, with the Qliphoth threatening to tear the world apart, Urizen's action continued to be a threat to all, definitely proving himself as a vile and deadly Demon King.
Interlude[]
Wiz: Alright the combatants are set, time to end this debate once and for all.
Boomstick: It's time for a Death Battle!
The Battle[]
Setting: Urizen's Throne Room
Urizen sat on his throne in his usual lazing pose, totally dead to the world until he heard the sounds of shrieking and fighting before the entranceway to his throne room was blown apart, scattering pieces of demonic tree and demon bodies. Floating through the resulting smoke cloud was Infinite, who took in the sight of Urizen shifting on his throne to observe him.
Infinite: Turns out this wretched tree contains an equally repugnant parasite in its center. You shall burn with the rest of it.
Urizen: I...do not...burn. I burn...others. And you as well.
Infinite chuckled and adjusted his mask.
Infinite: I hope you can fight for survival better than you can speak.
FIGHT!
In the next split-second, Infinite dashed forwards, straight towards Urizen. Before he could come into contact with the demon, his Red Crystal came around and blocked his charge. Realizing this, Infinite pulled backwards before attempting another dash from a different angle. Once again, the Crystal moved to intercept him, doing so again and again on each follow-up attempt Infinite performed, until he pulled back fully and growled in annoyance. Charging energy in the palms of his hand, he unleashed two beams from them both, which the Crystal also intercepted. Infinite poured more power into the beams as he also moved closer to the crystal, adding to the power going against the crystal. However, it still refused to break and once Infinite had gotten close enough, it pulsed and ejected a mass of spikes outwards. In spite of the suddenness of the counterattack breaking through his beams, Infinite was able to react in time and pull backwards.
Infinite: Are you going to keep hiding behind that crystal of yours, or are you going to fight back?
Urizen's eyes narrowed.
Urizen: Very well...vermin.
He waved his hand and purple beams rained out towards Infinite, who ducked and weaved around them as they came. With some homing directly in on him, Infinite summoned a barrier comprised of red cubes above himself to let the shots explode harmlessly against it.
Infinite: If this is all you can conjure, then I feel sorry for-
He was suddenly blindsided by a demonic root bursting out of the ground and whipping him in the side, sending him spinning to the left with a grunt. He re-righted himself as he watched more roots burst upwards and coil, ready to attack. They all did so in one instant, Infinite appearing behind them as they all struck out at once and he unleashed a couple of energy orbs that exploded at the bases of the roots. More of them burst from the ground beneath Infinite and wrapped around him, yet with a pulse of energy he blasted them to pieces, freeing himself just in time to see a massive meteor-like projectile zooming straight towards him. Just before it slammed into him, Infinite brought up his hands and caught the massive projectile and in spite of being pushed back by it, he was able to exert enough strength to stop its momentum and even when it exploded directly in his face, he emerged unscathed and merely growling. Tapping into the Phantom Ruby, the jackal conjured up several turrets floating in a series behind him, which he commanded to fire with a pointed finger.
Urizen: Pathetic.
He waved his own hand and conjured up a sigil that unleashed a sweeping purple beam, which intercept the the turrets' projectiles and caused them to prematurely explode. The beam also targeted Infinite, who had to weave beneath the energy. Upon successfully avoiding the beam in his entirety, Infinite charged straight towards Urizen, intent on another direct assault. He pulled back his fist, engulfed it in energy and swung it outwards as he neared his opponent, but just before he could hit the Red Crystal, let alone Urizen, the demon king sent out a blue bubble which engulfed Urizen, and the Jackal found himself moving slower at time went down to a crawl around him. His eye darted about in confusion before downwards when he saw bubble energy forming in the ground beneath him, which eventually erupted in a burst of blue fire. Infinite was launched upwards by the attack where he was then beset by numerous blue homing shots and then another purple beam that pushed him away from Urizen, who continued the barrage with another meteor-like projectile. As Infinite hit the ground before jumping back into the air, he saw the incoming attack and conjured up a massive cannon, from which an equally large projectile was fired. The two opposing attacks collided and exploded, resulting in a small crater and a smoke cloud.
Urizen peered into the vapor and was met with not one returning glare, but instead numerous. When the cloud fell away, it revealed dozens of Infinite copies floating there. One after another in the span of a second they all charged at Urizen, swinging out with swords conjured in their hands. One after another, the Red Crystal darted around, blocking the attack of every clone. It then went practically into overtime as it zoomed all around Urizen to block the attacks of every Infinite copy, letting not one of the artificial jackals land a hit on its master.
Urizen: For this...trickery...you shall regret your existence!
He unleashed a powerful shockwave from himself which sent all the Infinite clones spinning away. Demonic spikes shot out of the ground, impaling all but one of the Infinite copies, leaving one Infinite to dodge the spike intended for him. He charged towards Urizen, activating his V. Maximum Overdrive in the process. Once again, the Red Crystal intercepted the charge, and Infinite grinded against it best he could. And from his efforts, it began to crack and splinter, but seeing this, Urizen acted and had the crystal sprout spikes, impaling Infinite through the face and chest, leaving him hanging limply. Urizen snorted at the sight and the crystal withdrew its spikes, letting the body of Infinite fall away. It vanished before it could hit the ground and Urizen's eyes widened as a chuckle rang out from nowhere.
Infinite: Behold...your worst reality.
And out of nowhere, Infinite charged at Urizen, bypassed the Red Crystal with both blinding speed and the power of the Phantom Ruby and struck Urizen directly in the face with a powerful dropkick. It was powerful enough to produce a sonic boom and the roots around Infinite's face cracked as his eyes flared with rage.
Urizen: You dare!
He surged off his throne, Infinite pulling away as he did. As the roots of his armour came free, Urizen swung a punch downwards that Infinite ducked beneath, leaving it to smash against the ground before avoiding the roots from around Urizen's body that stabbed out at him.
Urizen: I shall break you...
He suddenly vanished through a portal, leaving Infinite looking around for where he might appear from before he did so right behind the jackal.
Urizen: ...into dust.
He slammed both his fists into Infinite's sides, or at least would have if Infinite hadn't vanished just before they connected and Urizen was suddenly beset by Infinite dashing around him, striking him in various different places, blowing chips off his plant based armour. Urizen grunted and snarled as the constant attacks knocked him off balance, but he regained it in time to swing a punch that caught Infinite and sent him smashing back into the wall. Before Infinite peeled off, Urizen's palm slammed into him, pressing him further against the wall. Urizen increased the pressure with a deep laugh before Infinite's body suddenly flickered before it grew into the form of a monster big enough to match Urizen's height. Urizen drew backwards at the transformation before he was struck across the face by the monstrous Infinite, which then grabbed the demon and slammed him into the ground. In response, his tendrils lashed out and wrapped around the monster Infinite's body parts, suspending him in the air before the newly arise demon lord, who began raining punches into his face before driving a kick into his chest which sent him reeling backwards to smash into Urizen's own throne. With the giant jackal unmoving, Urizen summoned legions of roots ready to attack.
Urizen: Vermin should not stand against a king!
He sent the roots shooting towards the giant jackal, only for it to vanish before they could hit.
Infinite: I don't need to be a king. I am Power!
The entire area was suddenly bathed in a red light and Urizen felt himself float up as gravity went into flux. A portal tore open behind him, one that led straight into Null Space as Infinite appeared in front of him, in the midst of reusing V. Maximum Overdirve.
Infinite: And you are not worthy of existing in this world.
He shot forwards and slammed into Urizen's chest, pushing him towards the open rift bit by bit. But then Urizen smirked behind his remaining root mask.
Urizen: You're right. This might just be...my worst reality...but it is a reality where I still have power.
He clenched his hands into fists and the red glow essentially shattered and gravity returned to normal, enabling him to plant his feet on the ground and push Infinite back with a force field. The jackal roared in anger as his attempt to end the battle being halted and he poured his power into trying to bypass Urizen's barrier. Just as he might have broken through, Urizen pulled his fist back and slammed it into Infinite's chest, the jackal gagging on the impact as it threw him back, the Phantom Ruby on his chest shattering to pieces. For the finishing strike, Urizen flicked his wrist and a single spike erupted from the ground to impale Infinite from beneath, leaving the jackal's body to remain there limb as the Null Space portal closed behind Urizen.
KO!
Urizen breaks the rest of the Phantom Ruby beneath his feet whilst Empusa feasted on Infinite's body, one of which was chewing on his torn off head.
Outcome[]
Boomstick: Too bad that Infinite couldn't get the Qliphoth's fruit. Jackals actually like fruit. There's your fact for the day.
Wiz: There was quite a bit that the clash between Urizen and Infinite required us to look at. Both had a wide range of abilities and means to control the pace of the fight.
Boomstick: That's a given, since they both bombard others with all sorts of projectile attacks and can render them vulnerable with gravity manipulation and time slowing respectively. But unfortunately for Infinite, Urizen had the edges in pretty much every important stat.
Popup: Whilst Infinite would appear to have the experience factor due to his greater age than the month-old Urizen, Urizen retains Vergil's memories.
Wiz: Like speed. Being at least twice as fast as Sonic and with the ability to increase his speed four fold, then Infinite should be capable of moving and reacting at 2.39 times the speed of light. But Urizen had him beat due to being able to intercept Dante whilst he was using his father's sword to transform, the same form that enabled him to travel at 800+ times the speed of light (KnightOfSunlight).
Boomstick: So even with his Red Crystal being a game breaker in terms of blocking, Urizen could out speed him nearly over 400 times greater.
Wiz: Speaking of the Red Crystal, it could be argued that, since the Phantom Ruby was potent enough to blind the omnipresent Master Emerald, then it could have done the same to Urizen's barrier and enable him to slip past. But such a debatable advantage would hardly impact the results either way, considering the massive gap in power between Infinite and Urizen. Let's put this in perspective.
Boomstick: Urizen's best showing of power and Eggman's trump card was summoning a giant sun. Whilst it was technically an illusion that had the whole mind-makes-it-real thing, it would have been real for those caught in its radius.
Wiz: So the highest amount of energy that could be attributed to the Phantom Ruby could be compared to that of a sun's. However, Urizen had a great deal more power in his very being.
Boomstick: He started off on a level superior to Dante, who had become way more powerful than a Mundus who embodied the power of an entire demon world. AKA, an entire universe. Meaning he could pack way more of a punch than Infinite.
Popup: Whilst the Phantom Ruby could nullify the Master Emerald, this does not directly mean it's on the same level of power of it, nor the Chaos Emeralds which Sonic did not need to use to defeat him.
Wiz: And there was another issue faced by Infinite. You see, since his powers were illusion based, they would only work on those who could be effected by illusions. But Urizen had himself a little resistance to them. Being half of Vergil and whatnot meant he had the same resistances as him, and he had the ability to break free of an illusion designed to drive someone mad.
Boomstick: Heck, even Dante has that same resistance, as he strolled around an island full of them. So whilst the Phantom Ruby gave Infinite some benefits, they either fell short or where outright useless against Urizen, who had the speed, strength and demonic abilities to see him through in this power clash.
Wiz: And fundamentally, it does make sense. Whilst Infinite needed the Phantom Ruby to be the threat he was in the first place, Urizen already had that power long before getting the fruit of Qliphoth.
Boomstick: Which is why Infinite couldn't Ur-risen to the occasion.
Wiz: The winner is Urizen.

Trivia[]
- The connection between Infinite and Urizen is that they are both power-hungry egotistical individuals who traded away their original identities following crushing defeats to take on new ones in their pursuits for power. Both also had items through which they got their power through; the Phantom Ruby and the Qliphoth Tree, and make use of red coloured barriers. Both also defeated their series heroes in their initial encounters and created powerful minions for their own ends.
- This battle would have been in 3D
- The original music for this battle would have been called 'Nefarious Illusions', referring to Urizen's title and the Phantom Ruby's ability to cast illusions
