Description[]

Jurassic Park vs. Primal. These unnatural predators don't kill to survive - they kill to have fun.

Introduction[]

Wiz: The Indominus Rex, Jurassic World's hybrid beast.

Boomstick: The Night Feeder, the primal nocturnal killing machine.

Wiz: Apex predators is the term used to refer to animals at the top of the food chain, those that can hunt at their leisure without fear of anything brave enough to retaliate.

Boomstick: And when there's that going for them, killing can become less of a necessity and more of a hobby. Especially if one lacks a natural place in nature like these two dinos! Bout time we included some. He's Wiz and I'm Boomstick.

Wiz: And it's our job to analyze their weapons, armour and skills to find out who would win a Death Battle!

Indominus Rex[]

Wiz: Long ago, in the age before man walked the Earth, the world was ruled by what could be classified as legitimate beasts of legends; the Dinosaurs.

Boomstick: There's a chance that every boy aged five to twelve was obsessed with these things, and why wouldn't they have been? They were awesome. And so John Hammond spied a certain business venture, and he was Richard Branson rich enough to follow it through. With the help of InGen, they got their hands on some prehistoric amber containing mosquitos containing dino blood and BOOM! They brought dinosaurs into the modern day.

Wiz: Unfortunately, the first attempt didn't go so well, with breakouts occurring before Jurassic Park could even open. The second endevour, long after Jon Hammond's death, went off much better however.

Boomstick: Of course it did; it wasn't just a Park, it was Jurassic World. And it was open for business, revamped theme tune and everything!

Wiz: You'd think that this place would be making more money than God, but there was a problem. You see, something impossible less appealing when it was possible, and hype always dies down. Even resurrecting new dinosaurs for new exhibits wasn't a marketing strategy that could last forever, as there were only so many species that could be brought back to reignite interest in the park. So they instead decided to forgo authenticity and do what most dino-loving preteens did.

Boomstick: Those boys at InGen decided to make their own dinosaurs. And they just couldn't help making their very first artificial dinosaur a Mary Sue, cause her name meant "Untameable King". Translated to Latin, she was the Indominus Rex.

  • Background
    • Name means "Untameable King"
    • 6.7 meters tall, 16.9 meters long
    • Genetically engineered dinosaur
    • Created by InGen
    • Has 10+ different DNA donors

Wiz: First and foremost when designing the I.Rex, coolness was given top priority. Hence it was given the body template of your standard T.Rex, and the DNA of other dinosaurs to make it look at gnarly as possible. From the Deinosuchus, it got exposed, crocodile-like teeth. From the Giganotosaurus, it would continue to grow from its demonstrated length of 15 meters to 16 meters, and even taller to boot. And from a Therizinosaurus, the I.Rex has a pair of long arms ending in clasping claws, meaning she has nature's broken power of hand-based grabbing.

Boomstick: Add in a bunch of dinosaurs known for their tough hides, such as the Carnotaurus, Majungasaurus, Rugops, Pycnonemosaurus, Quilmesaurus, and ViavenatorIt's. The end result, it was bone white white and utterly terrifying to look at. No wonder it would scare the parents and the money out of their pockets. Unfortunately, there was a flaw in the dino-making plan.

Wiz: If there's one thing Jurassic World was good at getting across it's that dinosaurs are not simply bloodthirsty monsters, they're animals. Thus, the decision to raise the I.Rex in complete isolation was severely damaging. At least, continuing to do so after it ate it's own sibling certainly was.

Boomstick: By the time the expected breakout occurred, the I.Rex really was the monster most dinosaurs are considered to be. Especially since it didn't think like an animal. This girl was smart enough to make her keeps think it had already escaped, so that when they opened the door to check, she could break out.

Wiz: From there, a repeat of Jurassic Park's first tragedy occurred, and then some, as the Indominus set about figuring out just what her place was in the food chain. As it turns out, above everything else.

Boomstick: And because of this, she got to enjoy proper killing for the very first time. Soon, she was hunting for sport, leaving dinosaur corpses in her wake with her bloodthirst awakened.

  • Attributes and Abilities
    • Fangs and teeth
    • Camouflage
    • Thermal vision
    • Adjustable body temperature
    • Intelligence
    • Powerful roar

Wiz: And it wasn't just dinosaur DNA used in her development, but also modern day animals, from which the I.Rex gained several unique traits that extended her rampage. From tree frog DNA, the I.Rex was able to manipulation her own body temperature, allowing her to go unnoticed by those who track with heat. From cuttlefish, she gained the ability to camouflage itself in any environment. And from pit adder snakes, she gained thermal vision, meaning that whilst you may not be able to see it, it could definitely see you.

Boomstick: Snake DNA is also likely why it can open its mouth as wide as it can, and in doing so unleash a roar worth at most 160 decibels. That's the equivalent of a shotgun's sound emission, and is capable of causing eardrum rupture.

Wiz: In fact, with so many different DNA samples inside of her, it may explain just why she was so messed up from the get-go. You see, a hybrid animal like a Liger has conflicting instincts, as the lion side seeks pack mates and the tiger wants to be solitary, leading to behavioral issues. So imagine if one animal has dozens of conflicting biological instincts.

Boomstick: Yeah, when you want a hybrid animal, make sure they all want the same think. Like the literal turducken I made. All three of its parts have long accepted that they're to be used for dinner. Therefor, no internal squabbles, and no born-and-bred psychopath. Like the I.Rex.

Wiz: And last, but certainly not least, the I.Rex possesses one more key component in its genetic makeup. One that was revealed at the worst time, when it was surrounded by those very dinosaurs. I'm talking about velociraptors.

Boomstick: No wonder she's so smart, she has the genetic instincts one of history's greatest predators rattling inside of her.

Wiz: Not only did this intelligence allow her to escape her paddock, but it even allowed her to remember where her tracking device was planted in her. And after clawing it out, using it as bait to lure in the park's security forces.

Boomstick: She also has an eye for using other dinos to her advantage, working up a bunch of flying ones to sow further chaos during her rampage and even convincing a pack of trained velociraptors to work for her instead of Chris Pratt.

  • Feats
    • Escaped from its containment zone
    • Killed an Apatosaurus herd
    • Used her own tracking device as a lure
    • Overpowered a Trex Rex
    • Pierced a Gyrosphere
    • Defeated the ACU Team, Delta and Echo

Wiz: She's been able to keep pace in front of a pursuing helicopter and possesses claws sharp enough to stab through the Gyrosphere's glass body, which is strong enough to withstand a bullet.

Boomstick: And killing so many dinosaurs means she's much tougher than them, such as those long-necks. They have been estimated to be able to whip their tails fast enough to break the sound barrier, and based on said tails' weights, this should equal 30 million joules of energy. If those long-necks attempted to fight back, then the Indominus Rex was just too tough to overcome.

Wiz: Even nature's perfect killing machine, the tried-and-true T.Rex, initially couldn't measure up to the I.Rex. And neither could the raptors when they returned to the side of Owen Grady. But as it turns out, both working together could, and with the added benefit of the one predator larger than even the Indominus, the I.Rex was dragged away to a watery meal.

Boomstick: You might be thinking, with how powerful the I.Rex proved herself to be, that it was kind of a waste she was made to be an attraction. And you'd be right, because there was another use for her in mind, or more specifically, for more of her.

Wiz: Imagine it; warfare, fought with hybrids of the most dangerous animals that ever lived. That was the secret goal of InGen, and whilst the I.Rex died at Stage One of those plans, her legacy persisted in all other hybrids. Especially in the Indoraptor.

Boomstick: Everything you needed from the I.Rex in a smaller, more compact package. Such is the way of nature at times. But you can't deny that the Indominus Rex was one hell of a place for it to have started.

Night Feeder[]

Wiz: Despite what one may think about prehistory, it is a scientific fact that dinosaurs and the most earliest of human species didn't co-exist with each, a difference of 65 million years separating the two.

Boomstick: So there was never any chance of having a dinosaur as a pet. Damn waste of evolution in my opinion. But hey, that's why we had cartoons like the Flintstones. And as of late, Primal, from the mind of Samurai Jack's creator. And let me just say, in this series, the most normal thing you will see is a caveman riding on the back of a T.Rex.

Wiz: This is Spear and Fang respectively, a duo brought together by tragedy to work together in a world that is defined not just as prehistorical fiction, but prehistoric fantasy.

Boomstick: There are giant spiders, cavewomen witches and even zombie dinosaurs, and each one pushed Spear and Fang to the brink.

Wiz: It was actually something of a reoccurring trend to be honest, as two times in a row the duo had to run for their lives. And there was soon to be something else to strike fear into their hearts. From the moment they entered a certain patch of territory, they became hunted. By an unseen threat that could put your standard prehistoric predators to shame.

Boomstick: Because it totally could, considering the shredded remains of a Smilodon. The handiwork of the dreaded Night Feeder.

  • Background
    • Length: Est. 12.1 meters
    • Personality Traits: Kills for fun
    • Appears to be a hybrid of a Baryonyx and Therizinosaurus
    • Contrasts with the Infected Argentinosaurus
    • Possesses the same roar as The Planet Eater's King Ghidorah

Wiz: What this thing is a bit unclear. In fact, even before it was revealed to look like some sort of hybrid between a Baryonux and Therizinosaurus, it's appearance was alluded to differently throughout the episode it debuted in.

Boomstick: It seemed to be implying that the Night Feeder was simply indescribable, then that it might be a giant preying mantis or even some sort of blob monster. Even the concept art of this thing is a guessing game, since it looks like some sort of troll in that. And there are even theories that it's a werewolf type entity, with a big, bloodthirsty form at night and smaller one at day, which we see happily nipping away at flies.

Wiz: It's exact nature is likely indeterminable, at least on the biological level. In terms of physiological however, we know exactly what it is.

Boomstick: Something that doesn't kill to eat - considering the bodies it leaves to rot - or to defend its territory - since it chases down anything it sees. No, this thing in the dinosaur equivalent of a serial killer! A Serial-Killer-Saurus!

Wiz: How did they see us, we're in a sealed room right now.

Boomstick: D...don't do...okay that was clever, but still, never do that again!

  • Attributes
    • Sharp claws
    • Extreme speed
    • Powerful screech
    • Slime-covered body
      • Enables camouflage at night

Wiz: Like the two dinosaurs the Night Feeder most resembles, the Night Feeder possesses a pair of long, and incredibly sharp claws, which are capable of slicing through not just flesh and bone, but also thick tree trunks.

Boomstick: Those things are so thick, it's mind boggling. To smash through trees of such thickness, why, that requires a strength of 210 megajoules (Dark-Carioca).

Wiz: Meaning you're going to want to be quick on your feet if you don't want to end up a pile of guts and blood. Which is easier said that done however, when its fully capable of blitzing its prey with it's insane speed.

Boomstick: And that's not even the hard part of dealing with the Feeder. Pop quiz, why is it called the Night Feeder to begin with.

Wiz: Well, certainly not because it eats its prey, because we've already established it kills for pleasure not food.

Boomstick: Yeah, it attacks at the dead of night because it's perfectly suited to doing so, on account of its unique pigment; pitch black.

Wiz: It's helped in this endeavour by the mysterious tar-like substance covering it, which is the perfect colour to help it blend into the shadows, enabling it to strike from any direction at once. Also, based on how we see from its perspective as it runs away from something, we can also determine it makes use of its sidewards mounted eyes to see in any other direction whilst moving in another. Meaning keeping track of its target is an easy feat.

Boomstick: And when a target proves to be a little more bothersome than it expected, the Feeder can unleash a screech so powerful, it brings its prey to its knees in agony. EEEEEEEEEEEEE!

Wiz: Augh, stop it!

Boomstick: Not until you're on your knees! EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!

Wiz: I'm on my knees!

Boomstick: You're on a knee! EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!

Wiz: Okay, okay, I'm on both!

Boomstick: Hurray, I win!

  • Feats
    • Smashes through trees
    • Perfect bisected a triceratops
    • Killed a Triceratops herd in quick succession
    • Withstood a bite from Fang
    • Easily killed a Saber-Toothed Cat
    • Defeated a Saber-Toothed Cat, Triceratopses, Fang

Wiz: Urgh...anyways, with being virtually unmatched in terms of predatory efficiency, the Night Feeder amassed itself an impressive kill count comprising of some of ancient history's most notorious animals.

Boomstick: First to go was Diego, or just some random sabre-toothed cat, and afterwards was a whole herd of triceratops. It even bisected one of them straight down the middle, like a science class model ready for anatomy education. When it came across Spear and Fang, it proved so vicious, Fang didn't even want to engage it in a battle, knowing it was tantamount to suicide. And she's a freaking T.Rex!

Wiz: It was essentially a lucky shot that enabled Fang to get a bite on the Night Feeder, yet received a muzzle of goo for her trouble. Plus, the bite didn't even seem to slow the Feeder down, despite the fact that T.Rex's can bite with 431 thousand PSI, which is far superior to the modern day Saltwater Crocodile.

Boomstick: There was basically nothing Fang or Spear could do to defeat the Night Feeder. At least, not on its terms...

Wiz: You see, the Night Feeder never attacked the duo, even at night, whenever they had their fire going. And there was a good reason for this.

Boomstick: Turns out, being covered head to toe in a tar-like substance means that even a single spark means a death via immolation. And we mean that literally, because a chance strike of stone against stone courtesy of Spear's, well, spear sent the Feeder running for dear life.

Wiz: When night next came, the Feeder found it was no longer predator but prey as Spear and Fang trapped in a ring of fire before skewered in with the caveman's titular polearm, now lit on fire. And as it burned away to nothing, both caveman and dinosaur looked upon with satisfied disgust, content in knowing that even monsters can burn.

Interlude[]

Wiz: Alright the combatants are set, and we've run that data through all possibilities.

Boomstick: It's time for a Death Battle!

The Battle[]

Setting: Jurassic World at Night

Through the darkness and growling lightly, the Indominus Rex stomps through a hole left in the concrete of a paddock. As she did, a recording played.

Announcer: DNA records of this indeterminate species where found in what archaeologists believe was a burned clearing. Whilst similar to body-type in a Baryonyx, the claws suggested it may instead have been a Therizinosaurus.

Now within the seemingly vacant and spacious compound, the I.Rex took a sniff and instantly rasped in disgust at the pungent aroma she detected. But it was from something new, and new things was what she hunted. She tensed and growled, at the ready for whatever would lunge out of the darkness.

And then the Night Feeder emerged from behind her, its jaws open wide to illuminate its white fangs, at the same time unleash a horrible shriek.

FIGHT!

The I.Rex's head snapped around to see the Night Feeder's sneak attack and she drew to the side, avoiding the snap of its jaws. Its attack having missed, the Feeder turned around to face the I.Rex. Both dinosaurs roared at each other, before evolving into snapping at one another with their sharp teeth. When the snout of the Feeder ventured too close, the I.Rex slashed out with her long claws, which the Feeder avoided by angling its head into a safe position. It followed up the act by spinning about and lashing its tail out, forcing the I.Rex back. She attempted to clamp her jaws onto the Feeder but it took the chance to take off into the darkness, disappearing from the I.Rex's vision. She turned her head side-to-side, searching for her opponent, before it lunged back out at her from the shadows with a claw swipe. The I.Rex barely avoided the attack and snapped at the Night Feeder, but it disappeared into the shadows once again. It emerged with a leaping attack, enabling it to slam into the I.Rex's side, although by turning to the attack, the I.Rex threw the Night Feeder back into the shadows before it could get its claws or fangs into her body.

Growling in anger at the Feeder's tactics, the I.Rex narrowed her eyes at the surrounding darkness, tapping into her thermal vision courtesy of her snake DNA. After a moment taken to survey her surroundings, she picked out the Night Feeder charging straight towards her, its claws at the ready. The I.Rex went low, avoiding the slash aimed at her head and slashed upwards in return. She was able to score a slash up the Night Feeder's side as its momentum carried it forwards, the dinosaur letting out a shriek of pain. It turned around and the I.Rex took off, the Night Feeder promptly following after her. The pursuing predator kept a keen eye on its opponent but to its frustration, the I.Rex began to blend into the surroundings and the night, becoming practically invisible. The Night Feeder skidded to a stop and started sniffing the air, attempting to pick up the I.Rex's scent. The rasp of claw against concrete drew its attention, and it saw a line of claw marks freshly made across the wall. Eyes widening in realization, the Night Feeder roared and dashed forwards, following the lines left on the wall. It came to a halt when the marks ended, and looked around in confusion.

Too late, it realized it had stumbled into a trap, as the I.Rex emerged from its camouflaged state to tackle the Night Feeder, smashing into its side with her own and pinning it to the wall. As the Night Feeder rasped in shock and pain, the I.Rex continued to press it against the wall as she ran forwards, grinding it against the vertical concrete surface, leaving a trail of blood and gunk as the Feeder's skin was scraped off. With a yowl, the Night Feeder slashed out with its claws to smash an opening in the wall, enabling it to slip out of the compound and from the I.Rex's grasp. The I.Rex came to a stop and stalked to the opening, peering out with a narrowed eye.

The eye then widened and the I.Rex quickly pulled backwards as she saw the Night Feeder charge towards her, and the gap became wider as the black-hued dinosaur smashed through it. The I.Rex then had to dodged and weave as the Night Feeder attacked from the cover of darkness, slashing new holes in the wall every time it missed the I.Rex. Soon, an entire section of the wall had been reduced to rubble, with said rubble being swept up and launched towards the Night Feeder by the I.Rex's powerful tail. They bombarded the creature, although the last ball of rubble was snapped to dust by its powerful jaws.

With a snort that blew the dust out from between its teeth, the Feeder advanced towards the I.Rex, which carefully drew backwards, growling in warning. A bellow from far-off drew their attention, and both their eyes swivelled around to see a herd of sauropods in the distance. After locking eyes with the Night Feeder, the I.Rex took off towards them, the Feeder in hot pursuit.

The sauropods on the edges of the herd noticed the approaching predator and groaned in terror, sending a chain reaction of terrified movement throughout the rest of the group. Before the herd could make a getaway in its entirety, the I.Rex ran between a gap in the gigantic throng of bodies. The alarmed sauropods then closed up their ranks, cutting the Night Feeder off from getting to the I.Rex. Within the stampeding herd, the I.Rex kept an eye on the sparing gaps in the herd for the Night Feeder, running alongside the panicked sauropods. Suddenly, one of the sauropods was punctured through the entire body by the Night Feeder, which lunged from the explosion of blood and organs at the I.Rex. She ducked beneath the attack, letting it sliced a sauropod next to her into several pieces before she lashed out with a biting attack. Whilst it missed and instead sunk into the flesh of another sauropod, she used this hold to toss the terrified, pained animal in the direction of the Night Feeder. It got sliced in half for its trouble and the perpetrator fell into step with the I.Rex, slamming into her side and pushing her in front of a charging Sauropod. The hybrid dinosaur was knocked forwards by the large dinosaur and sprawled to the ground, rolling herself to avoid getting trampled by the others. As she attempted to get back to her feet, the Night Feeder scaled a running sauropod, leaving it peppered in bleeding holes, and leaped off it towards the I.Rex.

The two carnivores thus tumbled over each other, scratching and biting the other. In the process, their claws and tails lashed at the legs of the sauropods, tripping them with the strikes or outright severing them. Thus, numerous sauropods hit the ground, throwing up clouds of dirt and blood and blanketing the area within the two fighting dinosaurs. When it all settled down, thanks in part to the surviving members of the sauropod herd having moved on, the Night Feeder was revealed to be standing on its feet.

Before it was the prone form of the I.Rex, which was unmoving and lying in a puddle of blood. The Night Feeder pressed its foot on her side and felt how her flesh was cold to the touch. Rasping in satisfaction, the Night Feeder raised its claw upwards.

When it brought it down however, the I.Rex's eyes snapped around and her claws clamped around its neck. The Night Feeder shrieked in shock as the I.Rex shot to her feet - having used her internal temperature control to feign weakness and took off running. The Feeder's face was dragged across the ground before it was thrown a distance away to smash against the hard stone ground.

In a reversal of the Night Feeder stomping on the downed I.Rex, the I.Rex stamped a foot down onto the Night Feeder, preparing to snap her jaws down on its skull. The Night Feeder unleashing an ear-splitting scream forced her backward, enabling it to climb back to its feet. It kept up the roar, even as blood flew from its injured mouth, closing in on the I.Rex and keeping the painful noise up. However, the I.Rex retaliated by opening her mouth and unleashing a weaponized roar of her own back; it proved stronger than the Night Feeder's, and the black dinosaur recoiled, it's head ringing. As it bent over, clutching at its head with its claws, the I.Rex shot forwards and snapped her jaws around its exposed neck, with a bite strong enough to decapitated it in one blow.

However, because of this oral attack, the I.Rex received a mouthful of foul, black sludge. Not only that, but it stained the I.Rex's eyes, blinding her as she drew backwards with a disgusted roar, clawing at the substance. As she flailed, the Night Feeder extended all of its claws, roared and dashed towards the I.Rex. In its panic, the hybrid slashed out, aiming as best it could through the substance blinding it.

The Night Feeder passed by the I.Rex and in short order, a massive burst of blood erupted from the middle of the I.Rex's. From snout to tail, the I.Rex fell into two pieces which fell away and splattered against the ground, revealing the entire internal contents of its body. The Night Feeder staggered, having lost one of its arms to the I.Rex's last, desperate swipe outwards, but nevertheless roared in the sky in victory. As the sun chose that moment to shed its first rays over the land, the Night Feeder vanished.

KO!

Outcome[]

Boomstick: Question; can a species be extinct if only one of it ever existed?

Wiz: Technically yes, I suppose, and since extinction is usually warded off by an animal's evolutionary traits, lets discuss those possessed by each of our prehistoric-themed killers.

Boomstick: First and perhaps foremost, the Indominus possessed a range of abilities that meant she could hold her own fairly well. Her camouflage could match or even exceed that of the Night Feeder's and her thermal vision was something the Night Feeder didn't possess, meaning an approach in stealth would be in her favour.

Wiz: Plus, she's demonstrated more actual smarts than the Night Feeder, enough to misdirect foes and to leave traps.

Boomstick: And whilst speed is a bit tricky to pin down, both were capable of killing large herds of dinosaurs in quick succession. So lots going for the I.Rex there.

Wiz: But what the Night Feeder had going for it was the clincher of this fight; its sheer might. No matter how many opportunities the Indominus had to strike it, the strength of the Night Feeder and the toughness it afforded it meant it could weather these strikes.

Boomstick: That's a given, considering the Night Feeder could pulverize giant trees all the way through. That's a showing of over 200 megajoules of energy, much more than the, at best, theoretical 30 megajoules the I.Rex could scale to thanks to killing those long-necks.

Popup: Based on official material and showings respectively, the roars of the I.Rex was several hundred times stronger than the Night Feeder's, but as it lacked direct feats of power, it cannot be used to scale its attack potency.

Wiz: And to be fair to the Night Feeder, whilst the I.Rex's abilities made it the better at stealth, the Night Feeder's persistent at tracking its prey meant getting out of its field of vision tough to begin with. Though the final nail in the coffin was the Indominus' inability to utilize the Feeder's weakness to fire.

Boomstick: Even with its intelligence, there also wasn't much guarantee that she would be able to figure it out in the first place, not without some fluke or stroke of luck. Thus, she wouldn't be able to get it off her back for long either, since the only times the Night Feeder ever really retreated was when there was some spark or flicker of flame. Even a bite from a T.Rex wasn't enough to make it give up, so even if the I.Rex was able to get a few hits in, it would stick around to try and get the kill.

Wiz: The Indominus had the abilities and smarts to be a formidable challenge, but the Night Feeder's strength, toughness and approach meant that she just wouldn't be as undefeatable as advertised.

Boomstick: Suppose that's why she was a prototype; she just wasn't in her Prime-al.

Wiz: The winner is the Night Feeder.

Trivia[]

  • Connections: Both are both carnivorous dinosaurs who are noteworthy for killing other dinosaurs simply because they can. Both are considered unusual by the standards of other dinosaurs (the Indominus Rex is a genetic hybrid of numerous species and the Night Feeder is an indetermined species). Both are also capable of camouflaging themselves, making them effective ambush predators, and are felled in battle by duos (Rexy and Blue, and Spear and Fang, respectively). Ironically, both their deaths have opposite elemental motifs (the I.Rex is dragged underwater and the Night Feeder is lit on fire) and have opposing colour-schemes (the I.Rex is noted for its white colouration whilst the Night Feeder is black-coloured).
  • Animation Style: 3D.
  • OST Idea: "Feeding For Sport", based on Owen Grady's comment about the I.Rex and the Night Feeder's own name.
