Obviously, you understand the fundamentals of illithid society. You probably also know that we prefer to dine on the brains of lesser sentients and that we share your own race's fondness for torture. Still, some of your folk will fare all right. I can't eat or flay everyone, can I?
~ Syrzan, from Dissolution (Forgotten Realms)

Mind flayers are found only in subterranean places, as they detest sunlight. They are greatly evil and consider the bulk of humanity (and its kin) as cattle to feed upon.
~ From AD&D Monster Manual (1977)

Illithids, also known as mind flayers, are a race of psionic monsters from the Dungeons & Dragons fantasy role-playing game.

History[]

Death Battle Info[]

Appearance[]

Illithids are basically humanoid in shape, but appear very alien to human eyes. The first thing notice about them is that they have large, bulbous heads, with four tentacles descending from their mouth, giving it an octopus-like appearance. They have four-fingered hands that possess large and exceedingly sharp claws. Their skin secretes a slimy mucous that can cause it to appear white, gray, blue purple, or even green.

Their preferred clothing is long, dark flowing robes, and other similar clothing.

Powers and Abilities[]

  • Psionics - All illithids have the ability to use their mental powers as a weapon, with the most common powers they have are:
    • Charm Monster – This power allows the Illithid to make a non-humanoid creature very well disposed towards him or her. It does not, though, give it control of the monster.
    • Mind Blast – This attack sends out a burst of psionic energy that can render an opponent unconscious, or at least in great pain.
    • Suggestion – This allows an Illithid to plant mental commands in a victim, and compel them to carry them out. However, the command must sound reasonable to the target. For example, they cannot be compelled to kill themselves, as such a Suggestion would break the command, terminating it completely.
    • Telepathy – This allows the illithid to read the minds of opponents.

Weaponry[]

Faults and Weaknesses[]

  • Their eyes are very good at seeing in the dark, but bright light blinds them and causes them great pain.
  • Illithids need to consume the brain of at least one intelligent creature a month, in order to remain healthy,
