History[]
Hidan hailed from the village of Yugakure before he joined a cult dedicated to a death-god known as Jashin. The primary teaching of this faith appears to be kill thy neighbor, where anything less than utter destruction is considered a sin. Through experiments with Jashin's secret technique, Hidan become an immortal and acted on his own before he was found by the Akatsuki's Kakuzu and Orochimaru. While Hidan originally refused to join the Akatsuki, he eventually accepts a position for two reasons: To keep killing without fear of being sealed away and for experience in immortality from the older Kakuzu. Partnered to Kakuzu, Hidan assists in the capture of the Seven-Tailed Jinchuriki Fuu and the Two-Tailed Jinchuriki Yugito Nii before the "Immortal Duo" are sent to the Hidden Leaf to capture Naruto. But Hidan ends up making an enemy out of Shikamaru Nara after killing his mentor Asuma Sarutobi.

As a immortal, Hidan is utterly unkillable. His weapon of choice is a three-bladed scythe that he uses to get the blood of his opponent for his ritual. The nature of the ritual, giving him a voodoo appearance, enables Hidan to have his victim experience any pain inflicted on him as long as he stays within the ritual circle he makes. From there, Hidan uses a Retractable Spear to stab himself in the heart and killing his opponent while getting a rush from the pain. Hidan can also collaborate with Kakuzu to give his technique greater damage by being attacked by his partner's constructs.
