Guile vs Paul Phoenix is a What-if? Death Battle featuring another fighting game matchup from both Street Fighter and Tekken.
Description[]
It's a battle featuring two blond American dudes with crazy hairstyles about to punch each other out to the death. Which flat-top will come out... on top?
Intro[]
Wiz: Colonel William F. Guile. Tough patriotic soldier of the US Airforce and participant of the World Warrior Tournament from Street Fighter.
Boomstick: And Paul Phoenix. Fiery American contender of The King of Iron Fist Tournament from Tekken.
Wiz: These two blond American fighters have fiercely battled their way through martial arts tournaments with their bare fists alone to reach their respective goals.
Boomstick: All the while keeping their awesome hairstyles intact through it all! He's Wiz and I'm Boomstick!
Wiz: And it's our job to analyze their weapons, armor and skills to find out who would win... a Death Battle.
Guile[]
Wiz: The US Air Force is undoubtedly the most powerful air force in the world, by a wide margin. And its intimidating arsenal consists of more than five thousand aircrafts and--
And Nukes! Did you forget, Wiz? They're the ones responsible for dropping those bombs in Hiroshima and Nagasaki. And for an armed force dominated by straight men, the plane that was used to do the job certainly is far from being one!
Wiz: Oh, please. The word gay has several definitions, Boomstick. Moving on, the US Air Force is also full of soldiers more than competent enough to manage and pilot weapons and aircrafts, and embark on dangerous missions. Among these soldiers stands a certain individual tough enough to take on a criminal syndicate while joining a martial arts tournament held by the same criminal syndicate at the same time. Meet Guile.

Background[]
- Birthday: December 23, 1960
- Height: 5'11
- Weight: 218 lbs
- Blood Type: O
- Likes: His family, Charlie, his comrades
- Dislikes: M. Bison, Shadaloo
- Has hair that can be used as a fighting game stage
- Is afraid of bears
Boomstick: And will you take a look at that head of hair this dude has. It awfully reminds me of one of Bob Ross's paintbrushes.
Wiz: William Guile was only a trainee in the US Air Force when he met and befriended Charlie Nash. During this time, Guile decided to ask Charlie to train him upon discovering his friend's unique fighting style, in which Charlie agreed to do.
Boomstick: Turns out, he was pretty good at getting the hang of it. Sure, he wasn't on Charlie's level of mastery, but Guile's cooler hair and badass theme song can more than compensate for it!
Wiz: This fighting technique is Charlie's own variation of the Marine Corps Martial Arts Program, otherwise known as MCMAP. This martial art was particularly developed by, you guessed it, the US Marine corps. It blends techniques from multiple pre-existing martial arts, especially the ones from Asia, such as Karate, Kung Fu, Taekwando and Judo to name a few. It greatly focuses on close-quarters hand-to-hand combat as well as teaching one to wield knives and bayonets efficiently.
Boomstick: But Charlie's version of the martial art straight up never relies on such petty weapons. Hell, it's even mixed with some wrestling techniques on it, like the German Suplex or the Backbreaker!
Wiz: With the fighting style, Guile was able to learn how to release a projectile attack as well. This is the Sonic Boom.
Boomstick: Guile can whip his arms fast and strong enough to break the sound barrier, creating a spinning moon-shaped projectile in the process. If by chance, you got hit by one, you've got yourself a little trip to the hospital... if you're lucky enough, anyway. But otherwise... you'll be six feet underground.
Wiz: Seeing it can create craters on the ground and break a wall or even destroy a military transport plane, its strength must be about equivalent to a sledgehammer, or a fast-moving truck hitting you directly, or even a grenade, depending on how hard he throws them.
Boomstick: And Guile can continue spamming it unless you try to stop him from doing it, by getting close to him. Good luck doing that! And the rest of Street Fighter characters can easily shrug off this kind of damage!
Wiz: The rest of Guile's moveset are even much deadlier. As MCMAP prioritizes close quarters combat, Guile doesn't rely on his sonic boom too much, as going up close to an enemy is where he becomes the most dangerous. Upon closing the distance, Guile can deal fast, accurate and fatal blows to his enemy. With moves like Spinning Back knuckle, Knee Bazooka and Rolling sobat, accompanied by his hard throws, Guile can easily pressure or completely overwhelm the enemy at the distance he favors the most.
Boomstick: You forgot about his Reverse Spin Kick, Wiz, where he completely defies the laws of physics and 180 degree flip his body upside down just to deliver a hard kick to his opponent's head like a soccer ball!
Wiz: Good catch, Boomstick. And we shouldn't forget the Flash Kick as well, where Guile somersaults in the air in an extremely swift motion, leading his body to resemble a slashing blade. He has efficiently mastered Flash Kick enough to surpass Charlie's own version of the move, leaving Guile four-eyed friend impressed. A stronger variation of this attack is the Double Flash Kick, where he does two consecutive flash kicks to deal extra damage.
Boomstick: But as a Super, Flash Explosion is the most powerful form of the attack, where Guile pulls off a strong Flash Kick not once, not twice, but three times! And speaking of Supers, we can't just leave out the Sonic Hurricane, where he unleashes a massive and ultra-powerful Sonic Boom in front of him, where it continues spinning in place, acting like a buzzsaw! And even then, he can still make a more powerful form of this super, called Sonic Tempest. And that one's even larger, and deadlier!
Sidenote: as of Street Fighter V, characters are given the V-Trigger gauge. Guile's V-Trigger can enhance several of his attacks and his Critical Art, the Sonic Tempest.
Wiz: But Guile's greatest trait is his strong will, which... is also probably the same thing that's keeping his hair up. No matter what, Guile will keep on pushing as long as he believes he can take it. Especially when you consider his initial goal: stop a criminal syndicate known as Shadaloo and defeat its power-hungry leader: M. Bison. However, his motivation at this time was less of doing the right thing and more of avenging the death of his friend Charlie.
Boomstick: Yep, you've heard it right, folks! The nerdy-looking soldier was killed by, you guessed it, Bison and his goonies. And the dude's name is pretty much a dead giveaway on how big of a bully he is! Literally.
Wiz: Charlie was on a mission to track down M. Bison. While Charlie was successful in defeating him, he was immediately shot from the back by his supposed backup, which turned out to be a disguised Shadaloo soldier. Fatally wounded, he falls down a waterfall and into his apparent death.
Boomstick: Well... until he came back from the grave later on. Though now returning as an edgy, amnesiac distant relative of Frankenstein's monster... for some reasons. But that's a story to tell for another day.
Wiz: Deeply affected by his friend's death, Guile would never waste an opportunity to avenge him. Once it does, it will be guaranteed to end up in his firm grasp, immediately.
Boomstick: And boy, did that opportunity arrive.
Wiz: In order to execute his evil plans to conquer the entire world, Bison decided to host a fighting tournament which will invite the strongest fighters from all over the globe to participate. This is known as the World Warrior Tournament, or the World Fighting Championship, alternatively.
Boomstick: And the tournament has only one rule: beat the ever living sh*t out of your opponent till they're down. And yes, weapons are allowed. Including guns, which were, for some reasons, not very effective to use because of how crazy powerful the participating fighters are! And well, Guile of course, didn't pass the chance to join the competition in order to finally get his hands on Bison.
Wiz: And despite the fact that Guile is a family man gifted with a wholesome wife and daughter... he outright just had to leave them for a while if he wanted to defeat Bison for Charlie.
Boomstick: Heh. I've always thought of Guile as a "Bros before Hoes" kind of guy. Guess I wasn't disappointed. But too bad for Guile. Cause while he stood strong in the tournament, he was never able to reach Bison... nor did anyone else, because Akuma beat everyone to it when he straight up came out of nowhere to literally murder the caped dictator.
Wiz: But despite Bison's death, Shadaloo's existence persisted... or at least, a small portion of it. This is known as S.I.N. A weapons division of the syndicate. Since then, Guile, alongside Chun Li herself and former Shadaloo doll Cammy, embarked on a mission to take down every remnant of Shadaloo and Bison himself, who --surprise-- wasn't actually dead. His body was the only one destroyed by Akuma and he eventually found himself a new one later on.
Boomstick: Uh... question, Wiz. Regardless of what state your soul is in, isn't getting your body destroyed an indication of the fact that you're officially... well... dead?
Wiz: Well, Bison is a different story. Upon becoming one with Psycho Power itself, a physical death would be nothing but a mild inconvenience for him, as he can just find another body to possess once that happens. But moving on, Guile, Cammy and Chun Li during their mission have withstood and performed things an ordinary human would never be able to do so.
Feats[]
- His sonic booms are powerful enough to destroy a crater and a plane
- His attacks are fast enough to break the sound barrier
- Held his own and kept up with Juri Han
- Can still go on despite taking heavy pain and damage
- Survived Juri's building-busting attack
- Fought Vega to a standstill, who can keep up with Bison
- Sparred with Charlie for hours
- Defeated Rolento, Blanka, Birdie, Abel and several clones of Twelve
- Survived M. Bison's suicide blast
- Can take blows from Sakura empowered by Satsui no Hado
Boomstick: Such as when Guile held his own up against a Feng Shui Engine-enhanced Juri Han, and even tanked a powerful attack from her, the same attack she used to BLOW UP A FRICKIN' BUILDING! He's also physically superior to Chun Li, who destroyed a tank with her mere kicks, and has obliterated a large portion of a forest using her Ki blast called Kikosho!
Wiz: Estimating the size of the crater compared to the trees and the height of the characters and assuming it's vaporization, the power of the blast must be around 620 kilotons of TNT. Over 41 times the power of Little Boy, the atomic bomb dropped in Hiroshima.
Boomstick: And even after that, Bison decided to blow himself up like a nuke after no-selling Chun Li's blast, and everyone, including Guile, somehow managed to survive! Like goddamn! Are they even human?
Wiz: We could assume that within the Street Fighter universe, hell, even within most fighting game universes as well, that mastering fighting styles grants you the ability to use Ki Energy, which enhances both your attacks and physical stats, basically turning you into a superhuman. Such as when Cammy dodged a point-blank bullet, and Guile is on par with her on speed, if not faster.
Boomstick: And don't forget when he defeated several clones of Twelve, a humanoid creature that can shape his body into whatever weapon he wanted, or when Guile kept up with Vega's speed, when he fought the Gay Wolverine to a tie. And Vega has once outsped the Psycho Dictator himself, who could somehow move just as fast as the laser beam of his Psycho Drive!
Wiz: Measuring the distance of the satellite from earth and the time it would take for the laser to travel between them, the laser should be around more than MACH 5,600, or at least 5,600 times the speed of sound.
Boomstick: Not to mention Charlie once defeated Bison too, and Guile can spar with his friend for hours without stopping!
Wiz: But even with these capabilities, Guile is not invulnerable. He is still a weaker fighter compared to Charlie, and the likes of Ken and Ryu, and Bison when the he goes all out. While a formidable fighter, he's had his share of defeats as well. Still, holding his own to opponents stronger than him, such as when he fought Juri and a Satsui no Hado-infused Sakura, is not an achievement to be ignored.
Boomstick: But as he enters the battle, Guile's hairstyle will stay up and his theme song will keep on playing, as his fist flashes towards his opponents with a Boom.
Guile: There's no rules on the battlefield. There's only life and death. That's all.'
Paul Phoenix[]
Wiz: The King of Iron Fist Tournament is a big time martial arts competition attracting the best fighters from all around the globe to partake in. It is hosted by none other than Heihachi Mishima, owner of the Mishima Zaibatsu, a gigantic international conglomerate founded by his father, Jinpachi Mishima. Believe it or not, it is large enough to be capable of waging wars all over the world. The price for winning the tournament is at least 1 Million dollars at the bare minimum. And if you're lucky, you could potentially own the entire Mishima Zaibatsu yourself.
Boomstick: But good luck winning the whole tournament, cause the competition's so frickin tough no one has ever won the tournament from start to finish... 'cept the Mishima family members themselves, but they're an exception, since they're all anything but normal... physically and mentally. I MEAN WHERE IN THE FLYING F*CK CAN YOU FIND A FAMILY REPEATEDLY TRYING TO KILL EACH OTHER, STARTING TOURNAMENTS AND GROWING WINGS AND HORNS AND SHOOTING LASERS FROM THEIR FOREHEAD!?
Wiz: Uh... Japan, I guess?
Boomstick: ... Oh. That makes sense. But geez! This family's f*cking messed up!
Wiz: While the Mishimas themselves are considered the strongest fighters in the world, we're not here to talk about this crazy dysfunctional family. We're here to discuss the select few who were able to reach the finals of the tournament and stand a chance up against one of them. And among the select few stands a man strong enough to sweep his way through the tournament with ease. His name is Paul Phoenix. And his goal is to be the toughest fighter in the Universe.

- Age: 48
- Height: 6'1
- Weight: 179 lbs
- Blood Type: O
- Likes: Fighting, joining martial art tournaments, Marshall Law, Steve Fox, motorcycles
- Dislikes: Kuma, losing fights, diarrhea, his debts
- Despises traffic
- Is hot-headed
- Will fight an entire alien population on his own
Boomstick: And now, this is what your hair would look like if you dipped it in a 3-liter hairgel can and used its cylindrical shape as a cast.
Wiz: Paul was an American fighter with a deep enthusiasm towards martial arts and, well, fighting. At that time, he decided to travel across the world in order to find himself a worthy opponent... but he found no one who can match his strength and skills. No one, except Kazuya Mishima.
Boomstick: Who somehow looks and acts like a long-lost twin of Vegeta.
Wiz: The two fighters clashed, until it eventually ended in a draw, an outcome Paul has never experienced before in a fight. Paul, at this point, realized he finally found what he was looking for. Wanting to show his full potential, to enjoy the heat of battle, and to search for opponents as strong as Kazuya or even Kazuya himself, he entered the first King of Iron Fist Tournament.
Boomstick: He was undefeated throughout the competition, up to the finals, where he faced off Vegeta once again, but while Paul put up quite a fight, he was eventually beaten, because the only thing that can defeat a Mishima is another Mishima... or cliffs... assuming they would work... which they don't.
Wiz: But don't worry. Paul tried his luck again two years later by participating in the second tournament. Unfortunately, a traffic prevented him from getting to the finals. This forced Paul to let go of his chances of winning the tournament and leave.
Boomstick: Dang. I kinda feel bad for him.
Wiz: Whether losing to Kazuya or ending up in unfortunate circumstances, Paul just couldn't snatch a single tournament victory. But despite this, he's still powerful enough to beat everyone in the tournament with ease, including a literal bear that's mastered Karate(his name is Kuma)... for some reasons. But keep in mind that a bear has a strength that's more than enough to rip your body apart.
Boomstick: And that bear's owned and trained by none other than Heihachi Mishima. No one's probably crazy enough to teach a 600-pound wild animal martial arts --
Wiz: Except the Mishimas. Now moving on, Paul, however, refused to give up and trained himself harder as he waited for another opportunity to once again fight his rival, Kazuya Mishima, and show what he's truly capable of.
Boomstick: Heh, too bad for our hero, 'cause Kazuya at the end of the second tournament got bodied by Heihachi Mishima, his own dad, and threw him off an active volcano, killing him off for good... until... (sighs)... he comes back to life later on, angrier than ever. GODDAMN IT! EVEN A F*CKING VOLCANO WON'T DO THE TRICK! THEY'RE EVEN WORSE THAN COCKROACHES!
Wiz: Well, considering they have wings and are practically very difficult to kill that even nukes can't do the trick, you could say they are cockroaches on steroids.
Boomstick: Ah, goddammit. You got a point.
Wiz: After nearly twenty years, the King of Iron Fist Tournament has returned... but of course, Kazuya didn't.
Boomstick: At this time, Kazuya was still on a twenty-year-long free vacation swimming in lava in courtesy of his pops. But it didn't matter for Paul that much 'cause he was more focused on winning the tournament.
Wiz: And so, Paul swept his way through the competition without any difficulties. Nobody had the ability to defeat him up until he reached the finals, where he battled a creature known as Ogre. An ancient Aztec god of fighting who can and has defeated countless fighters from all over the world, absorbing all their souls, Ki and and abilities to make them his own, growing more powerful in the process.
Boomstick: And Paul showed how tough of a fighter he really is upon fighting him, because he managed to defeat the Shrek guy! Declaring himself the victor of the tournament, he walked away in satisfaction and pride, not knowing that Ogre actually had a second form! Jin Kazama, son of Kazuya Mishima, arrived to do the job of murdering Shrek as an act of revenge for killing his dear Momma. As for Paul, well, he was disqualified for leaving the competition before it was finished. Goddamn, I really feel bad for him!
Wiz: Regardless, defeating everyone in the tournament was no easy feat. But thanks to his sheer strength and fighting skills, he managed to pull it off. Paul is an expert practictioner of a Japanese martial art known as Judo, which translates to "Gentle(Ju) Way(Do)". While created out of multiple deadly fighting styles used by Japanese warriors and samurais hundreds of years ago, the martial art is far from being deadly as it is made as a safe competitive sport more than being a self-defense. Instead of punches and kicks, Judo involves multiple locks and throws to subdue the opponent until they could no longer fight back.
Boomstick: But Paul's version of Judo is far from being gentle. And Paul does use kicks and punches, much more often than these petty locks and throws. And when he does, they're often extremely devastating. Not even close to being gentle or safe. Seeing his fighting style, we'd say it's only mostly derived from Judo but it's a mix of multiple martial arts. As mentioned in Tekken 1, he was stated to be very skilled in many kinds of martial arts from all around the world.
Wiz: With moves such as the Hammer Punch, Hammer of the Gods, Neutron Bomb, Demolition Man, 10-hit combo and the Phoenix Smasher, Paul's fighting style is to devastate the enemy with his fatal blows as much as possible, a complete departure as to how Judo should be. But not forgetting the Judo roots of his style, Paul can tackle the opponent and perform throws and locks.
Boomstick: But let's not forget Paul's ultimate: the Burning Fist, which could potentially take the entire opponent's health! Or his Rage Art, where he slams the opponent down to the ground so hard they bounce up in the air, before finishing them off with the Burning Fist!
Wiz: It's no wonder why he was so close to winning the entire competition. But as he was disqualified, Paul gained nothing from the third tournament. He could never prove his claims about "winning" as he never got anything from it. As a result of his outrage and disappointment, Paul lost the will to fight as he slowly descended into depression and stagnancy in his life. And to top it off, his dojo also went out of business. Since then, Paul was never the same again.
Boomstick: But it was until the fourth tournament was announced when his fighting spirit was rekindled once again. But... yeah, he just wasn't as strong as he used to be. This was proven when he got his ass beat by Kuma! A different one. It's the son of the Mishima bear Paul defeated before, out for revenge for his daddy! But too bad Daddy already died of old age before he could see his son avenge him. But Paul as of Tekken 5 onwards was now reduced to a pile of jokes instead of being a more serious character, something Tekken 4 and the previous games have shown.
Feats[]
- Can destroy walls with a single punch
- Destroyed a large boulder blocking his path with a single punch
- Is one of the best contenders of the tournaments
- Was undefeated in the third King of Iron Fist Tournament
- Fought Kazuya to a draw, and also once fought him for hours
- Has fought Bryan evenly
- Knocked out Feng with his Rage Art
- Defeated Kuma and Ogre, the God of Fighting
Wiz: But despite his lost power, Paul is still strong enough to evenly fight opponents as powerful as Bryan, who can easily destroy a tank with his bare hands while... tanking its shot and a barrage of bullets from several soldiers without a single scratch, which is no surprise since Bryan also survived a building level explosion at ground zero and he still came out unscathed.
Boomstick: Hell, the collision of their punches was strong enough to destroy their surroundings!
Wiz: Well, it's not exactly a surprising fact, seeing that Paul can easily break walls with a single punch. He has also destroyed a giant rock blocking the road with that punch.
Boomstick: Paul managed to knock Feng out for a while as well! If you don't know who Feng is, he's a Kenpo master who can one-punch a boulder to bits just like our Flat-topped hero here, but the one he did was the size of a frickin' building!
Wiz: And keep in mind that Paul is also much faster than the likes of Bob, who was able to dodge bullets with ease. Additionally, he also scales to Gunjack, a Russian android capable of surviving a massive blast from a satellite and reacting to its laser. And measuring its speed, the robot would have to have a speed of MACH 5,800 in order to react to it.
Boomstick: Not to mention Kazuya can easily tear through the superior models with his own fists! The Mishimas and "Iron Fist" aren't associated with each other for nothing!
Wiz: But despite his outstanding abilities, Paul wasn't really known for his intelligence. Outside of martial arts, he wasn't very smart even if his brute strength and skills can compensate more than enough for it.
Boomstick: His cockiness and stubbornness could cost him a fight too, which is what happened when he fought Kuma in the fourth tournament. There's also the fact that he's way too hot-tempered, which could affect his decisions... and that's not gonna go well for him.
Wiz: But regardless of his flaws and failures, Paul refuses to give up achieving his ultimate goal: to be the strongest fighter in the Universe.
Paul: I'm number one!
Pre-Fight[]
Wiz: Alright, the combatants are set. Let's end this debate once and for all.
Boomstick: IT'S TIME FOR A DEATH BATTLE!!!
Fight[]
"... And as a proof of you being a participant of the World Warrior Fist Tournament, the once-in-a-lifetime tournament conducted by Shadaloo in collaboration with the Mishima Zaibatsu," Guile read the red flyer in his callused enormous hand. "You must keep the golden ticket you now own as a result of you prevailing in the Pre-tournament Evaluation, a period taking place a day before the tournament wherein over ten thousand individuals who signed up prove their eligibility of getting nominated to the Top 100, the only select few able to receive the golden tickets, by fighting each other. And as promised, the long-anticipated event starts at 14:00 UCT+7 sharp. Two hours prior, the 100 eligible participants are all expected to be present in the designated wharf awaiting the cruise ship Charybdis VII which will then be transporting them to the island of Circe, where the tournament will transpire. Furthermore, the Mishima Zaibatsu and Shadaloo leaders Heihachi Mishima and M. Bison will be present to observe the competition."
Meanwhile, Paul, wearing his signature black biker jacket, drove through the cleared-out highway with his motorcycle in frustration. The traffic jam of the city he passed through had been harsh on him once again a mile ago, which consumed the majority of his time. Now, being able to find a proper shortcut to escape the jam, he only had at least twenty minutes to reach the next city's wharf before the cruise ship arrived… and he could only hope this city's traffic would be stable.
So it is confirmed that Mishima and Bison will be present. Chun Li and I had suspicions, but our intuitions are fortunately correct, Guile pondered. This would make this mission easier for us. He closed the red flyer as he eyed the golden ticket being held by his other hand. The benches were conveniently sufficient in numbers for all the participants to sit on, and it was no surprise why. The wharf was somehow so fancy-looking it resembled a resort. But it admittedly fits the beautiful horizon before it. Looking left and right, he saw the rest of the fighters. Some were familiar, but most were completely strangers to him. It didn't matter whether or not he wins this tournament. The mission is his first priority.
VROOM!
The roaring engine of a motorcycle brought everyone's attention to the hasty Paul, who was at least lucky enough to not experience traffic again in this city. Parking his motorcycle recklessly, he decided to approach the person nearest to him.
And of course, Guile was nice enough to help him. Guile rose from his seat and approached the man as well.
"Hey, dude. Ya mind telling me where to sign up for the tournament here?" asked Paul. This question, of course, surprised Guile, as anyone that was willing to help him would be in this situation.
Guile sighed. "Haven't you been keeping up with the news? The registration period just closed last week."
"H-huh?" Paul said in fear and disbelief. "No way…! You're messing with me! I…" That dang Forest lied to me!
"It's the truth, unfortunately. Even if you've signed up, you'd still require joining the evaluation which would reward you with… this," Guile showed his golden ticket. "This ticket is proof that you are among the select participants of this tournament. Having it means you can join the tournament."
"I-is there any other way to get that kind of ticket?"
"I'm afraid not. Or… well, you could ask one of these guys here to hand over theirs to you, but I highly doubt they'd give in easily. It's a very special chance and a very special tournament, after all. And I will ask you this…" Guile paused and stuffed his ticket in one of the pockets of his camouflage pants. "Are you worthy of getting one?"
That last implication from Guile brought a smile to Paul's face as his eyes flashed in enthusiasm. "Wanna spar with me?"
Somehow, the man kind of reminded the soldier of his brother-in-law. "As much as I'd like to, I'll pass, thanks." He could not risk losing the ticket. But at the same time, he could not say a single word about his confidential mission either. "I cannot afford to waste my energy on someone who likely isn’t even worthy of being a participant of the tournament."
"What did you say!" Paul furiously muttered.
Looks like Guile's sharp tongue slipped out. The commotion that Paul started drew even more attention not only of the participants, but of the passers-by as well. Paul could not afford to lose his chance of getting in this tournament. After all, proving himself once again how powerful he was always thrilling to him, and a 5 Billion Dollar prize would be more than enough to pay his debts. Way more than enough.
"Okay. Whether you like it or not, I'm challenging you to a fight! And if I win, I’m getting that ticket!" Paul declared.
Guile is being tempted by him to fight. But since the man with a hair similar to his seemed to be all bark and no bite at the moment, he plainly refused with a single answer:
"No."
With that, he turned his back on Paul, showing his disinterest on Paul's request. As he approached the bench…
"HEEAAARGH!"
Swiftly flinging his body to the right, he managed to avoid Paul's punch. The fist got in contact with the bench Guile should have been sitting on, and it was blown into pieces.
Now, they were everyone's spectacle, and they were already expected to fight. Guile halted in his tracks to observe what Paul had done. “Looks like you’ve got the power. But I’m sorry. I won’t risk losing this ticket. There is something important I have to do.”
Paul threw another hard punch at Guile, to which the latter easily blocked with both of his arms. “Stop making excuses to me!”
Unbeknownst to Guile, the cruise ship had finally arrived. He and Paul however began to notice this when the number of participants began evaporating and now climbing their way up the gigantic ship as it loomed over them, casting a shadow. Eventually, he was the only apparent participant left to go aboard the ship. Good thing he knew it wouldn’t be leaving yet, at least for about twenty minutes. It’d be more than enough time for him to deal with this bothersome guy.
Paul swung a kick towards Guile’s head, to which Guile managed to dodge narrowly by hopping backwards a few meters away. Finally, the soldier strengthened his resolve, and squared up. “It looks like you’re not giving me a choice.”
“Come on! Fight me like a man!” Paul angrily yelled at the green tank-top-clad man, meters away from him.
“I will show you who the man truly is.”
The two stared at each other intently, both more than prepared to fight. But as Paul begins to take the first step in charging headlong at Guile, the fight officially starts.
FIGHT!!!
As Paul dashed towards Guile, the latter let down his guard for a moment and spread out both his arms sideways. As he did so, the limbs generated Ki in which he threw at Paul's direction by whipping both of his arms together
"Sonic Boom!" He shouted.
"What the--?" Paul was surprised, but he luckily managed to avoid the crescent-shaped projectile by sidestepping. Yet, another one was coming his way, and another, and another, and another. He successfully dodged the other one again, blocked another with his tough arms, but was then hit by two consecutive sonic booms in the chest as a consequence of opening his guard in order to try to close the distance between him and Guile; Paul groaned in pain. Guile finally let out a stronger variant of his sonic boom and accurately threw it.
It would be a fatal blow if not for Paul breaking the very projectile with a single strike of his fist without any difficulty. As Paul began charging towards him, Guile threw another sonic boom and prepared himself to face his opponent in close quarters.
Paul, however, performed an aerial cartwheel, which he calls the neutron bomb, as a way to dodge the sonic boom and to easily close the distance between him and his opponent. Aloft and upside down as he did the cartwheel, Paul could see the spinning sonic boom just an inch under the very tips of his flat-top hair (or above Paul's hair via his perspective). Both Paul's legs landed exactly on Guile's head, causing the soldier to stagger backwards in pain upon the impact. Fortunately, he was able to keep himself upright, and entered his signature stance once again.
Exactly a meter in front of Paul, Guile spun his body clockwise and stretched his strengthened right arm to deliver a fist on Paul's face, who then easily blocked the attack. Paul followed up with a karate chop to strike Guile's shoulder, then a power punch to the chest. This knocked Guile a few yards away, until his body hit the bench, destroying the object on impact.
"Gahk!" was the noise Guile heard himself let out.
Luckily, Guile was able to recover. Getting up as if it was nothing, he ran towards Paul, who did the same action as well. As they were face to face once again, Paul decided to kick Guile's head again… but Guile saw that attack coming, quickly crouching as a response. Giving Paul two low light kicks and a punch in the gut while crouching, Guile proceeded to jump high and did a hard backflip.
"Flash Kick!" he yelled. The somersault hit Paul's chest and jaw so hard his body launched upwards in the air, yelling gibberish in surprise as he did so. He then landed on his head, further damaging him.
Upon getting up, Paul realized his opponent was nowhere to be found. And before he could even try to look back, he felt a pair of arms coming from behind him and tightly holding him by the middle of his torso, lifting him up and slamming him into the ground. It was a suplex from Guile. "Ugh…" In excruciation, Paul held his hurting back as he groaned.
Guile jumped up and prepared his feet to kick Paul's head, who was still on the ground. Luckily, Paul noticed this and rolled to the side. The kick from Guile caused the concrete to crack, a mere inches away from Paul's head.
Paul performed a kip-up to get himself off the ground and back on his feet again. And it was just in time when Guile threw a standard punch followed by an uppercut, both of which were dodged by Paul. He retaliated by jumping up and doing double kicks, but was blocked by Guile. The soldier was about to attempt another combo when Paul spun his body clockwise and swung a high kick that hit Guile's face clean.
Guile recovered immediately and did his Rolling Sobat-- Guile's spinning back kick. Surprisingly, his enemy was fast enough to catch his feet. Paul, as he was grabbing Guile by the leg, threw him two meters away. He hit the ground hard on his back, similar to what happened to Paul when he suplexed him.
He was about to get up when he suddenly found Paul pinning him down to the ground. While he was unable to get up nor fight back, Paul slugged Guile's face left and right, one, two times. Three times. Four times. Five times. And Guile was helpless to even stop him at the moment.
As soon as he thought Paul was going to let him go, Paul went for his left leg. Guile's enemy grabbed the leg with both hands and began to break it. Fortunately, Guile was successful in getting himself free from Paul's grasp before his limb could experience damage beyond repair. Guile used his left leg to kick Paul away for a while as a means to give himself enough time to get up.
He then proceeded to dash at Paul, grabbed his body and threw him away. Paul, however, recovered quickly even if the landing was another pain in his back.
Guile, noticing the blood on his mouth, wiped it up and spat some of it out. "You're indeed strong. But you're gonna need a lot more than that to take me down."
"Right back at ya, pal!" Paul answered, who had suffered visible bruises himself.
For a few seconds, the two fighters stared down at each other. Whatever thoughts these two were having at the moment were irrelevant. Before their eyes was an opponent they needed to take down if they wanted to enter the tournament. And at the same time, deep down, Guile and Paul knew they were relishing the thrill of having a good fight.
Both continued where they left off afterwards. Paul did not hesitate running towards Guile and Guile did the same thing.
Paul, using the force generated by the momentum of his dash, thrust his right elbow directly at Guile's chest. The soldier managed to block the attack, and the following one, where Paul gave him a strong left punch. Despite blocking the punch, it still had enough power to send Guile sliding backwards on his feet about two feet away. Paul followed him and threw left right punches then an uppercut. Guile luckily dodged all of them by hopping backwards, before shooting Paul with a sonic boom, which got in contact right into his abdomen.
Another one came to hit Paul's head. As he crouched the second projectile, it made its way into the cruise ship's hull. The sonic boom exploded, creating a gaping hole which showcased a portion of the ship's interior. This left Paul in surprise for a while. But as Paul looked back at his opponent, he found him running straight into him.
"WHAT ARE YOU LOOKING AT?" yelled Guile, who kneed Paul right in the diaphragm, knocking the air out of the biker jacket-clad man. Upon making an opening out of his opponent, Guile activated his V-Trigger and jumped up in the air, flipped his body forward, and while still aloft, kicked Paul's head. As he landed on his feet, Guile followed up with an uppercut to Paul's jaw, a straightforward moderate punch, AND a sonic boom. Paul felt all that damage getting inflicted in his body as Guile continued to strike him. He felt one or two of his rib cages split apart. Until finally, he's had enough. He broke free from Guile's combo by catching the soldier's fist. This gave him the opportunity to pull his enemy into him. Upon doing so, Paul was able to throw Guile over his shoulder. And while Guile was down, Paul decided to jump up to gain momentum. He planned to slam his fist into the lying down soldier. And as he did, his fist was enveloped with flames.
Guile tried to get up…
BLAM!!!
But was hit by a devastating fist that fell down from above and into his abdomen. This caused him to cough up blood.
"Ack!" he cried in pain.
Since the force exerted by Paul was too strong, the concrete that Guile was lying on was completely dismantled, as thousands of its fragments flew several feet up. And a shockwave was even generated by it, which was strong enough to obliterate all the benches nearby, crack all the concrete within a ten meter radius and break all the mooring lines of the cruise ship.
Guile, extremely devastated by the attack, didn't have enough time to recover to stop Paul from lifting him up and perform the 10-hit combo, and it already felt as if Guile was a mere training dummy for Paul.
Punch after punch. Kick after kick. Guile could not move or do anything. He felt some of his bones crack already.
But he cannot give up.
He must not give up.
As soon as Paul lifted his left arm to hit him with another Karate chop, Guile prepared to throw a heavy punch at Paul. And it landed! Breaking Paul's combo, Guile decided it was time to retaliate by pulling off a Super: the Flash Explosion.
Before Paul could even connect another jab, he gave him a strong Flash Kick, which maximized Paul's already messed-up rib cage injury. This was followed by an even stronger Flash Kick, which practically made Paul lose a few of his teeth when he catched Guile's feet with jaw, as well as sending him even higher up in the air. And followed by the third and most powerful Flash Kick…
"I'm putting an end to this!" Guile screamed, as he braced for the third one. As he gathered enough overwhelming power for the third one.
And upon pulling off the third and most powerful Flash Kick, Paul felt the most pain he's ever had since fighting his human rival.
While vomiting out blood, Paul flew away due to the attack's impact. His body hit the ship's hull just like that sonic boom earlier, adding more injuries than he had already. But this time, the hole created by his own catapulted body was far larger. It was, in fact, large enough to threaten the seacraft from sinking.
Slowly pushing himself off the floor, Paul groaned as his entire body ached, completely oblivious of the fact that the vast majority of the passengers, including the participants themselves, were already in the process of evacuating the seacraft in panic. Their transport vessel to the stage was doomed to share the fate of Titanic were it to start sailing.
Upon looking up, however, Paul noticed a familiar brown-haired teenage girl of Asian descent quickly approaching him with anger on her face. She wore a midriff-exposing outfit and fingerless gloves.
"Listen up, you funny-haired piece of shit!" shouted Asuka Kazama at Paul. "We literally fought against thousands to get here and you're ruining everything!" She raised her packed fist to launch it into his face, completely oblivious of the slowly cracking portion of the thick ceiling right above her head, preparing to fall off and crush anyone beneath it.
Before her fist could even land, Paul detected a movement coming from his peripheral vision. It was yet another girl he knows, about the same age as Asuka. Accompanying her blue eyes and long and straight blonde hair was a fancy frilly white outfit which seemed to indicate that she was anything but poverty-stricken.
"Asuka! Watch out!"
She was charging towards Asuka just as the concrete began to fall. Just as she did, she leaped and pulverized the concrete with a swift kick. In surprise, her fist was unable to land on Paul as she covered her head from the pulverized bits of the concrete.
"Let's get out of here!" exclaimed Lili de Rochefort as she landed, in which Asuka complied immediately when she felt Lili's hand hold hers.
Now Paul was left alone. Slowly forcing himself to stand up, he prepared himself for the next round, knowing the fight wasn't finished yet.
With ease, Guile impressively leapt into the hole of the ship he created himself, landing exactly where Paul was.
"You've proven yourself to be a worthy opponent," Guile stated. "But you're not getting in my way."
"Let's just finish this," retorted Paul, cracking his knuckles and tilting his head from side to side to crack his neck as well. A second later, he finally decided to square up.
Paul charged towards Guile yet again, seemingly not learning what would happen if he'd do that. Guile crouched, waiting for Paul to arrive. When the distance was closed between them, Guile once again was successful in landing two low kicks before proceeding to do another flash kick. Surprisingly, while Paul wasn't able to guard himself from those low kicks, he managed to block Guile's flash kick pretty well.
The soldier performed another rolling sobat, which was able to hit Paul on the liver. This sent pain to every corner of Paul's body, causing him to stagger backwards. Guile followed up with a sonic boom, which was a clean hit on the face.
Seeing Paul was more vulnerable than ever, Guile took this chance to charge in. Unbeknownst to him, however, Paul, through his rage, pushed himself to recover as quickly as possible. This gave him the opportunity to fight back, since Guile at this moment was perfectly unguarded.
He kneed Guile's chin. This caused the soldier to groan in pain and spit blood once again. With an uppercut, Guile was launched in the air. Paul followed up with an elbow strike, a light left punch, followed by his hard right punch to the chest, which threatened Guile's heart. The force of the last punch was so hard Guile's body was stuck into the concrete wall he was pushed into. Paul did not waste this second opportunity and performed the Demolition Man, an attack wherein he does a low sweeping kick, another elbow strike to the chest, and a devastating palm blow which obliterated the entire wall and a significant portion of the ceiling of the deck they were in.
Guile felt one of his clavicles break, followed by some of his rib cages yet again. He was now spitting blood all over as he was thrown several meters away by that force. Any normal person would not be able to stand from all this damage, but not Guile. He charged once again to fight Paul, and managed to hit him with his spinning backfist in the head. Paul staggered once again and failed to prepare himself from Guile's upcoming combos. As a payback, lots of his rib cages were shattered as well, with additional bruises from his face which caused it to swell.
The two continued trading blows over and over again, completely bathing themselves and filling the floor with their own blood.
Punch. Kick. Block. Dodge.
Punch. Kick. Block. Dodge.
This went on and on… and on… and on… until Paul had enough.
He raised his left arm to swing a karate chop; he was going to pull off his Rage Art. Unfortunately for Paul, it never landed, as Guile managed to block it. As a result, Guile punished him with a one-two punch, and another flash kick. The attack knocked away more of Paul's precious teeth, leaving him to fall to the floor.
Somehow, Guile knew it was not over yet. And thus, he strengthened his resolve the strongest he can as a means of ending this fight once and for all.
Paul, despite being badly injured, still managed to get back on his feet. And he was angrier than ever. With a scream of rage, he gathered all of his strength into his right fist until it was covered in flames. This was his Burning Fist. His ultimate move.
Guile knew his opponent was already on the verge of releasing his strongest attack. Thus, as a response, Guile activated his V-Trigger once again and gathered every strength he could to form the biggest and the most powerful Sonic Boom he could create before his very eyes. This was his Critical Art: the Sonic Tempest.
"I'M GONNA RIP YOU TO PIECES!" screamed Paul.
"PREPARE YOURSELF! THIS. ENDS. HERE!" shouted Guile.
"HEEAAAAAAUUURRGGHHHHH!!!" screamed Paul as he released his flaming fist and threw his ultimate punch.
"SONIC… TEMPEST!!!!!!" screamed Guile as loud as he can as he activated his ultimate.
Paul tried his hardest to punch through the gigantic buzzsaw-like projectile.
Guile tried his hardest to cancel Paul's fiery punch and "slice" his body.
In the end, it turned into a game resembling Sumo; whoever falters the battle of strength loses the game.
Both men screamed in pain and straining as the ship already began to sink as they continuously inflicted damage upon it. Neither of them refused to back down. And even if otherwise, it was already too late to back out. One of them would have to go.
Guile's Sonic Tempest could not cancel Paul's Burning Fist.
But Paul's fist went through the projectile, slowly but surely, until it reached the baffled Guile.
The result was an explosion large enough to obliterate the entire cruise ship, causing its debris to fly everywhere.
From a certain distance, two awfully familiar muscular men watched the scene unfold in surprise. Both wore karate gi, the first one sporting the garment in white color. He wore a red bandanna and red gloves, and was of asian descent. The other one was clearly Caucasian, sporting long blond hair and a red colored gi.
"What did we miss?" asked the blond, namely, Ken Masters. Ryu merely shrugged from the question.
As the rest of the ship sank, Guile's body was seen sinking along with it; his chest was completely caved in and both his arms were horribly dislocated. His heart was crushed due to the impact; his excessive attempt to stop Paul's fist left both of his arms useless… not that it mattered now. Guile was already dead either way, and was now on his way to reach the bottom of the waters.
Meanwhile, an arm was seen emerging from the waters, followed by another one. Paul pulled himself out of the water and up into the wharf's surface. While badly injured, he still had enough strength pulled himself up to his feet and declare himself victorious.
"I'M THE TOUGHEST FIGHTER IN THE UNIVERSE!" shouted Paul victoriously, soakingly wet in water, sweat and blood as he raised an arm high expressively.
Within the grasp of his raised hand, lies the golden ticket, which was fortunately waterproof.
K.O!!!
Results[]
Boomstick: And just like the movie Titanic, the sight of the sinking ship and Guile's death was heartbreaking! Literally.
Wiz: Both Guile and Paul were outstanding fighters in their own right. Paul greatly excels in his offense (even if this is contradictory to how Judo actually works), and Guile usually relies on his defense more and capitalizing on his opponents' mistakes. There's a reason why he falls under the "Turtle" archetype in Fighting Game characters' classification.
Note: Paul was often classified as a Turtle as well.
Boomstick: But only one of these guys would eventually have to emerge the victor.
Wiz: While it's true that Guile has a lot of combat experience and can hold his own pretty well up against opponents far more powerful than him like Juri Han, this wasn't exactly enough to defeat Paul.
Boomstick: Paul arguably has had more combat experience than Guile ever has. Ever since before Tekken 1, he has been fighting countless opponents from all around the world and even ending up fighting Kazuya to a draw, one of the best fighters in the Tekken universe even without the Devil Gene! This is proven even more when he was left fighting AND defeating Ogre on his own!
Wiz: Keep in mind that Ogre contained the souls, powers and fighting styles of countless enemies he's defeated as well as possessing hundreds, if not thousands of years of experience. Guile's fighting style is something Paul can easily deal with. Guile's advantages of being smarter and having more resilience does not change the outcome in anyway. However, Guile has one obvious advantage: the range. His sonic booms could do the trick to keep Paul at bay for a while, but the strategy would eventually fall apart as it isn't going to be enough to take his opponent down. Paul is scaled to be faster than Bob, who was able to dodge several bullets coming at him. Furthermore, while powerful, the sonic booms are not as powerful as other projectiles in his universe, such as the Hadouken. Not to mention Guile relies so much more on his close quarters than the range game. But to fully determine the victor, we'll have to take a look at their stats.
Boomstick: Guile easily scales to Chun Li's Kikosho blast, and Paul is easily superior to Gunjack, who survived getting blasted by a killer satellite!
Wiz: While Chun Li's feat was calculated to have a blast yield of around 620 kilotons, keep in mind that this is a very, very generous estimation. It's actual yield would have to be around less than 10 kilotons of TNT. Thankfully, Guile at least surviving Bison nuking himself is calculated to be around 620 kilotons all the same and can reach 1 megaton, but only if highballed. Which means the downgrade in Chun Li's feat does not change the level of his stats in any significant way whatsoever. In comparison, the Gunjack satellite feat is consistently nearly 2 megatons of TNT and can be far higher if highballed. How do we know Paul scales to this? First, taking down Ogre is a clear proof of this. Ogre even in his base form is much much superior than a petty Jack robot. Ogre even had an ending that, while non-canon, could ultimately be used as a solid evidence. In that ending, Ogre, with a single step, managed to destroy an entire city. The Mishimas can take down squads of Jacks on their own with ease as well, and Paul has fought Kazuya to a tie, and even fighting him for hours straight.
Boomstick: Not to mention Paul is much faster too. Even if you tried to scale Guile's speed to Bison, who achieved the crazy speed of MACH 5600, keep in mind that the Mishima Satellite is just a bit faster than this: about MACH 5,800, to be exact. And Paul keeping up with Kazuya means he is even much faster than this, more than 1% the speed of light, to be exact! The Mishimas in their base can react to devil beams, which are Sub-relativistic in speed. Way, WAY faster than anything you can scale Guile to! Even if you directly scaled Guile to both Charlie and Bison, it just doesn't change the outcome of this matchup.
Wiz : While it's true that Paul hasn't shown any durability feats of his own, this does not exactly make him a glass canon. Fighting Base Kazuya for hours meant he has taken quite a hit up against him, which means he easily scales to Kazuya's base durability. More likely than not, he has taken hits coming from Ogre as well. Now, we are aware that there are some versions of Guile who has defeated Ryu, Ken and Bison. However, said versions of these characters can barely even reach Building Level in attack potency, which means this does not change anything at all.
Boomstick: Or let's say we scale Guile to canon Ryu, Ken and Bison. That means this also gives us the green light to scale Paul to a Jack-6 model's apocalyptic meteor feat, since a character weaker than Paul, named King, managed to defeat Jack-7, a far superior successor of Jack-6. And it's ... yeah. Not a good idea. Doesn't do anything to change the outcome of this matchup. If anything, it just guarantees the fact that Paul emerges victorious up against the super soldier no matter what you do. Looks like the Colonel was smashed by the Phoenix.
Wiz: The Winner is Paul Phoenix.

Trivia[]
Connections[]
- -Both are American fighters with blond hair and peculiar hairstyles who have joined tournaments in order to achieve their respective goals.
- -Coincidentally, both of their character designs are based off Jean Pierre Polnareff, a character from JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Stardust Crusaders.
- -Both have rivals they have been searching for years. Said rivals have also been killed once and brought back to life. Even more similarly, both Kazuya and Charlie have the goals of killing Heihachi Mishima and M. Bison respectively, both of which are leaders of their own corporate entities who decided to start a tournament. Additionally, both leaders are also responsible for Kazuya and Charlie's temporary deaths.
- -Both Guile and Paul have once fought fighters with cybernetic enhancements as well; Guile fought Juri Han with the Feng Shui Engine, and Paul fought Bryan Fury.
- -It was mentioned in Street Fighter x Tekken that Guile is afraid of bears. Meanwhile, Paul has a bear as one of his rivals. While the canonicity of the former's information is up to debate due to it only being revealed within a crossover game, it is still an information worth-noting.
- -In Tekken 3, Paul has a hidden move called "Incomplete Somersault." It is activated when the player holds the down button for a second, commanding Paul to crouch, before pressing the up button and both the Kick buttons at the same time. Paul then performs a somersault similar to Guile's Flash Kick, to which Paul fails to perfect, causing him to painfully land flat on his face. The drop takes a small portion of his health, however, the damage dealt by the move to the opponent is decently devastating. The Incomplete Somersault officially appeared on Paul's Command List in later Tekken games.
- -Both Guile and Paul surprisingly and respectively have two allies (Chun Li and Cammy for Guile, Law and Steve for Paul) accompanying them most of the time. Coincidentally, Chun Li and Marshall Law are both Chinese and Cammy White and Steve Fox are both British.
