Grim vs Sans

Grim vs Sans is a what-if? episode of Death Battle.

Skeletons that don’t do their jobs all that well, but are packing a serious punch.

Grim[]

Wario: Death, it comes for us all. Except for me, hehe.

Waluigi: We get it you’re unkillable, Wario. Wah.

Wario: Anyways, Grim is the grim reaper if he was laughable, but he’s still a very strong force.

Waluigi: Like when he created a shockwave during his scuffle with Dickie Galoot! Or when he defeated the Boogeyman without his scythe!

Wario: Or when he sent a kid to a dimension of eternal suffering and torment over a spitball.

Waluigi: There’s also the Hourglass, which controls the life span of whoever Grim wants, killing them if the hourglass is broken. Scary.

Wario: Being the grim reaper, controlling life and death is pretty natural for him. His scythe will permanently destroy whatever it stabs, effectively removing regeneration from whatever gets stabbed.

Waluigi: Barring Grim himself, as he was unaffected by Billy cutting his head off with the thing, and just put his head back on.

Wario: He’s also resistant to death in general, being the grim reaper and all. Fear, as he states he “lives his worst nightmare”. Cold, as he was perfectly fine in his cloak on a cold Himalayan mountain. Regeneration negation thanks to the scythe feat from earlier, and diseases, as the spider pox had no effect on him.

Waluigi: And he’s got durability to back up what he isn’t resistant to. He took a huge firework and hot fudge explosion while fireworks in his eye sockets and was only annoyed and covered in ash by it. He also survived getting stabbed multiple times by scorpion at least twice his size.

Wario: There’s also him tanking a giant colosseum explosion, barely noticing being stabbed in the head, back, and chest by an arrow, ax, and spear respectively, being thrown into the air, getting sent through a propeller from an airplane and then landing on a mountain. And that’s before we bring up his regeneration and immortality!

Waluigi: Grim has the ability to regenerate from damn near anything, such as the firework explosion we mentioned earlier. In terms of immortality, barring the obvious type 7, or Undead immortality for those who don’t know, he also has types 1, 2, and 3. He gains type 1, or Eternal Life, since he’s apparently outlived time, type 2, or Resilient Immortality, comes from him constantly coming back from the stuff we brought up in the durability section.

Wario: Type 3, or Regenerative Immortality, comes from the regeneration we talked about earlier. Needless to say, Grim is very durable.

Waluigi: Grim ain’t a slouch in speed either, as he can keep up with Hoss Delgado, who can move his arm fast enough to blur, or when he opened a portal with his scythe to escape a missile explosion.

Wario: Speaking of the scythe, let’s go over that.

Grim’s Scythe[]

Waluigi: Jesus, does this guy have any weaknesses?!

Wario: Yes, he’s extremely reliant on his scythe to do the heavy lifting.

Waluigi: If I had ass kicking in a scythe I’d be pretty damn reliant on it too.

“You and that wretched girlfriend of yours are bad enough separately, but together... you're insufferable.”

“Insufferable? I don't even know what that means. And hey, Mandy's not my girlfriend! She's just a FRIEND, who happens to be a GIRL, just like I happen to be a BOY, and you happen to be a SKELETON. It's the differences that make our planet so rich, diverse, and wonderful!”

“I still hate you, though.”

Sans[]

Wario: Sans, the lazy skeleton with the ability to annoy people with puns and make the “skeleton” tag a lot more popular on R34.

Waluigi: Very little of Sans’ past is known, all we know is that he has something related to W.D. Gaster, and people on a picture labelled “don’t forget”

Wario: Regardless, Sans, despite his laid back demeanour is quite a powerhouse, as seen during his Genocide route fight. During said fight, he weaponizes the bad karma of his opponents, dealing poison-like damage. He can also manipulate the soul of his opponent, affecting the target’s gravity, making them heavier.

Waluigi: Are you immune to that, Wario?

Wario: Fuck off.

Wario: Sans can also send bones, which can come in either white or blue varieties.

Bones[]

Simple projectiles
White bones deal damage no matter what
Blue bones are bigger and faster, but only deal damage if the target is moving

Waluigi: He can also stop time for small intervals, due to having a small amount of DETERMINATION, which he likes to use to catch opponents off guard by changing attacks constantly, even during another attack. He can also manipulate space to small amounts, as seen by the self-sustaining tornado of trash.

Wario: He can fire giant beams of energy from Gaster Blasters, which deal high damage very fast, regardless of KARMA, he can use these as a giant ring of death, forcing the target to keep moving in circles.

Waluigi: Sans is shown to be very smart, as he can fool the player into trying to spare him, only to dunk on them. He’s also fourth wall aware, judging by Fourth Wall of Hell, and his referring to the player as a timeline anomaly.

Wario: In terms of speed, Sans can scale to Frisk, who can dodge lightning. He can also maybe teleport, provided he isn’t just stopping time and walking to wherever he wants. With his gravity and soul manipulation, he can throw people around a lot.

Waluigi: He’s so strong, I wonder how durable he is.

Wario: His durability is absolutely horrible, as he can only take one hit before dying, hence why he always dodges. This means his biggest weakness is his stamina, while high, it’s not unlimited.

Waluigi: Despite his durability, he can certainly get the dunk on his opponents!

“what? you think i'm just gonna stand there and take it? our reports showed a massive anomaly in the timespace continuum. timelines jumping left and right, stopping and starting... until suddenly, everything ends. heh heh heh... that's your fault, isn't it?”

DEATH BATTLE![]

Grim looks down at an hourglass that just ran out, and grabs his scythe, opening a portal.

Location: Snowdin

“Now, where would this… Pa-py-rus be?” Grim mumbled, which Sans overheard.

“hey. it’s november pal, too late to be dressin’ up.”

“No, I’m here to collect the soul of Pa-py-rus, whoever that is. Get out of the way.”

“h-hey wait. that’s not gonna happen.”

“(God I hate this part…) I know, you want me to spare him, but I have to do my job. Nothing personal, blah blah blah. Now move.” Instead of moving, Sans turned Grim’s soul blue and shoved him into an empty mailbox.

“Ow.” Grim raises his scythe, prepared for combat.

FIGHT![]

Sans fires several white bones and one blue bone at Grim, who slashes through the white bones but gets hurt by the blue bone.

“What? I cut that!”

“ever hearda blue stop signs?” Before Grim could answer, Sans fired a gaster blaster, which almost hits Grim, but he goes through a portal just in time. The blast goes through as well, making Grim getting out of the portal seem way cooler. Grim rushes at Sans, slashing at him several times, but all of them are dodged.

Grim attempts to spin with his scythe to hit Sans, but he’s uppercutted by a bone, knocking him in the air and then he face plants into the snow, mumbling. Sans then blasts Grim, turning him into a pile of ash… which mildly annoys him.

“Ugh, you really want to ruin my day.”

“yup.”

“Great.” Grim then fires several electric blasts at Sans, with them all being dodged. Grim then attempts to burn Sans with pyrokinesis, to no avail. Sans throws another blue bone, but Grim was too busy thinking about what to do to realize until it passed by.

“Oh, by blue stop signs I just… stop. Oh.” Grim then summons skeleton minion to fight Sans. The goon gets close to success but gets thrown headfirst into the snow by a single bone.

“looks like you got rattled.”

“No, no puns!” Grim immediately pulls out an hourglass marked “sans”, dumping out some sand before being pulled over to sans, who steals the hourglass.

“don’t like the look of what this thing can do. i’m gonna “borrow” it for a while, k?” Grim attempts to open a portal, only to find Sans holding his scythe. After Sans rips Grim in two with it, Grim simply reforms, sighs, and then summons it back.

“It smells like… ketchup. Ew.”

“heh, sorry. i had a snack before we fought.”

“Ew!” Grim then rubbed off his scythe before opening a portal and trying to blindside Sans with it. It doesn’t work. Grim then tries to fire more electricity at Sans, who still dodges it.

“huff… huff… heh, ya tired me out. maybe we could settle this… peacefully?”

“Well, I’m not here for your soul… and I’m not getting paid for extra so… sure.” Just then, a bunch of bones surround Grim, while Sans responds with “getttttt dunked on!!!”

Grim breaks free by spinning with his scythe, before recomposing himself.

“Gah! Don’t do that!” Grim protests, while Sans shrugs and winks. Sans then attempts to fire 5 Gaster Blasters at Grim, who rips them into ribbons with his scythe.

“hey bones, did ya hear about the new grim reaper clothing?”

“What.”

“i heard it was called river kicks.”

“Oh my god.” Grim then attempted to throw his scythe at Sans, but just knocks down a tree. Sans throws Grim around while he lost his scythe, hurting him.

Grim manages to get back on his feet, and summons the scythe once more. Using Pyrokinesis, he makes Sans drop the hourglass. Seeing this, Sans cages it, stopping Grim from reaching it, and shoving him back whenever he tried to swing for it.

“you can’t understand how this feels.”

“What?”

“to have everyone i care about die again. and again. and again.”

“What are you on about?” Grim tries to swing once more.

“even now, with a different killer… it’s all the same to me. if you get that damned hourglass, you’ll kill everyone and the goddamn cycle continues.”

Sans then throws Grim everywhere, making him drop the scythe, followed by Sans summoning an uncountable amount of blasters, preparing to fire them all.

“see you in hell.”

Desperate, Grim attempts to punch Sans, causing Sans to dodge. Grim smirks.

“what’s so funn-“

Sans was impaled through the back from the scythe. Grim summoned it and it had moved the quickest way it could to reach him. And Sans was in the way of it.

“heh. good play, but don’t you dare hurt my brother, you cloaked son of a bi-“

And with that, Sans had turned to dust.

Grim picks up his dusty scythe and opens up a portal.

“Forget this. Too much work for one soul.”

Grim then puts more sand into Papyrus’ hourglass before leaving.

KO!

Grim unhappily watches TV with Billy while Sans’ hourglass spills what’s left of the sand inside through a crack in the glass.

Results[]

Waluigi: And that’s yet another loss for Sans.

Wario: While Sans is formidable in his own right, Grim was leagues above him. Grim could’ve just stopped time to kill Sans, emptied out his hourglass, or just wait until Sans made a wrong move and stab him, or just use his abilities like pyrokinesis.

Waluigi: And with Grim’s durability, regeneration, and immortality, Snas had no ways to kill him.

Wario: The winner is Grim.
