Description[]

Star Wars vs. Metal Gear. They lead with bloodlust and battle with multiple limbs.

Introduction[]

Wiz: Victims of war will claim that war has ruined their lives. But for these two, war is their lives.

Boomstick: General Grievous, the leader of the droid armies.

Wiz: And Sundowner, the blood-lusting Wind of Destruction.

Boomstick: He's Wiz and I'm Boomstick.

Wiz: And it's our job to analyze their weapons, armor and skills to find out who would win a Death Battle.

Grievous[]

Wiz: The Clone Wars is the name given to the years of battle and strife fought between the Jedi and the Republic's titular genetically engineered army, and the droid armies of the Separatists.

Boomstick: And leading the droid armies was a alien cyborg feared via terrifying nickname. He was...Head-Clanker. Wait, that don't doesn't sound very impressive.

Wiz: I'm pretty sure the title that best conveyed his reputation was General. General Grievous.

Boomstick: Yeah, that makes much more sense. Though the term 'general' is underselling it, because Grievous is, in actuality, supreme commander of all the droid armies.

  • Background
    • Real Name: Qymaen jai Sheelal
    • Height: 7'1
    • Species: Kaleesh
    • Leader of the Separatist Droid armies
    • Trained by Count Dooku
    • Collects Lightsabers as trophies

Wiz: Before he became what he was loathed and feared as, Grievous was once a Kaleesh Warlord with a burning hatred of the Jedi, whose transformation into a robotic killing machine would shape his entire life. Or maybe it was the other way around.

Boomstick: Bear with a moment here. You see, due to the whole different versions of Star Wars created by Disney buying them, there are two ways to explain why Grievous became a badass cyborg. Although I'm sure it had to do with...well come on, who wouldn't want to be a cyborg?

Wiz: Well, in the Legends continuity, it was kind of forced upon him. You see, Grievous, during that version, fought to liberate his people but his ship's crashing led to him being found and rescued by Count Dooku, who implanted in his head not just a greater amount of rage and anger but also the idea that the Jedi were responsible for the crash that brutally maimed him.

Boomstick: Whilst the quote-on-quote canon version had Grievous actually modify himself with technology implants from the very beginning, although a ship crash was the reason he became more metal than flesh. Oh and was already loathing the Jedi, so joined the Separatists pretty much off the bat.

Wiz: Regardless of Grievous' origins, what mattered now was that the droid armies had themselves on fearsome commander. Under Grievous' guidance, they lay siege to countless worlds, serving as an ever-persisting thorn in the Republic's side.

Boomstick: And have you ever heard of the trope "Authority Equals Kickass?". Well, that's something that applies to Grievous all right because he's an absolute monster to go up against.

Wiz: In spite of being neither Sith, a fallen Jedi or even a Force sensitive individual, Grievous proved skillful in handling Lightsabers. Thanks in part to the tutelage of Count Dooku. With him, Grievous developed a fighting style that emphasizes on overwhelming his enemies with rapid and powerful strikes, and has even dabbled in the various Jedi Lightsaber Forms.

  • Arsenal
    • Lightsabers
    • Grievance Striker
    • Multiple arms
    • Duranium Armor
    • Grappling hook

Boomstick: In case their reputations somehow didn't precede them, Lightsabers are capable of cutting through nearly any substance. And Grievous has dozens of them.

Wiz: That's because Grievous is something everyone in the galaxy should be fearful of; a Jedi Hunter, having struck down many members of the Order in battle, collecting their Lightsabers as trophies.

Boomstick: Brutal. And Grievous often wields these pilfered sabers two at a time, or even four at a time, which he can do because of the capabilities of his new cyborg body.

Wiz: At will, Grievous can separate his arms in half, giving him up to four arms to wield his weapons with.

Boomstick: That's not all. His clawed feet can also serve as another set of hands and he can rotate his limbs to turn himself into a multicolored buzz-saw of death.

Wiz: Lightsabers and his own body aren't all that Grievous can use in battle. He carries a personalized blaster that is just so uncivilized and is adapt in using the electrical staffs used by his personal robot bodyguards.

Boomstick: He even has a grappling hook that lets him get around just as well as he can when he crawls around on the walls or ceilings.

Wiz: Grievous' cyborg body has one more attribute that makes it all the more formidable. It was outfitted with Duranium Armor, which is a metal so tough it can withstand fire from starship cannons.

Boomstick: The only thing capable of getting through that metal are Lightsabers but I'd say it's more of a necessity than a weakness.

Wiz: And in spite of his most reoccurring foes wielding those weapons, they're often hard pressed to overwhelm him.

  • Feats
    • Survived a blast that destroyed a city
    • Remained conscious during surgery
    • Kept pace with Obi-Wan in combat
    • Bested legions of clones
    • Defeated Durge, Asajj, Shak-Ti

Boomstick: Many Jedi have close to light-speed reactions and Grievous can keep up with numerous at the same time. Obi-Wan Kenobi in particular can react in a nanosecond and Grievous has fought him plenty of times.

Wiz: Not even other Separatist operatives are a match for him at times. Such Durge, the tentacle filled tin can.

Boomstick: Grievous was able to knock Durge around like a toddler and he's strong enough to lift an AT-AT Walker, which sources say can weigh up to 4.4 thousand tons. And guess what, only Grievous knew that their fight was just for show; meaning he was the only one holding back whilst Durge and Asajj Ventress were fighting with all they had. And he still beat them both!

Wiz: Grievous' armor was strong enough to survive a blast that nearly collapsed the surface of a planet. And the various Lightsabers he has collected proves that when it comes to hunting Jedi, there are few as deadly as he is.

Boomstick: So yeah, Grievous is tough, fast, strong and skilled. Sounds unstoppable doesn't he. Unfortunately for him, not so much when you consider that his internal organs are pretty obvious weak points.

Wiz: Although they are surrounded by his armor, they aren't completely sealed off from anyone looking to take advantage of them. Like Obi-Wan did when he repurposed Grievous' blaster and literally burned Grievous alive from the inside out.

Boomstick: Talk about gnarly. But we all know that the Separatist's reign of terror would never have been as effective had they not had the infamous General Grievous leading their droid armies and cutting down anyone to stood in his way.

Sundowner[]

Wiz: In the wake of the Patriot's fall, there came a rise in the development of cyborg-based PMCs. One such organization, Desperado, was a little different however.

Boomstick: Yeah, they weren't turning out cyborgs and war machines for national security. It was the exact opposite, because they supported terrorist organizations. All part of a plan to profit off the future war effort.

Wiz: This corporation was made up of those who lived for war and naturally, they were all cyborgs themselves. One who remained a stranger, one who was stained by time and another who knew only one thing for real.

Boomstick: And there was another who liked to watch a red sun rise. The most bloodthirsty of them all, Sundowner.

  • Background
    • Age: 50s
    • Height: 6'8
    • Serial number: 978-AZQEE.
    • Member of the Winds of Destruction
    • He's f***ing invincible

Wiz: Before becoming the biomechanical butcher of Desperado, Sundowner was born to a poor family in Alabama. Ironically, in spite of getting good grades and being a straight-A student, he went to join the army. Although, admittedly, that was more due to a lack of funds to carry on his education.

Boomstick: Sundowner didn't mind though, since he quickly found out that war was his true calling. Having fought in up to four different military conflicts, he got himself quite a reputation on account of his brutality and the sheer amount of blood that he spilled.

Wiz: In fact, that was how he got his name; on account of the bloody messes he left behind making the ground look like the setting sun.

Boomstick: Not even getting hit by an IED kept him out of the field for long, because he got himself a new robotic body. But what was enough to get rid of him were the claims of him committing war crimes. Which makes total sense considering what we see of Sundowner.

Wiz: Even after being ousted from the military, Sundowner was able to continue satisfying his bloodlust by joining Desperado, aiding in their efforts in starting another war. And that aid included showing off just how dangerous he was on the battlefield.

Boomstick: His new cyborg body gave him all sorts of benefits, like immense strength and speed and it's pretty durability to boot, just like the cyborg body of a certain other cyborg. One who happens to be a ninja.

Wiz: And like that certain other cyborg, Sundowner has himself a High-Frequency weapon.

Boomstick: And we all know what deadly weapons high-frequency weapons are, because they can destabilize molecular bonds to cut through most nearly anything.

Wiz: And Sundowner's signature weapon is his Bloodlust.

Boomstick: Yeah, cause with the desire to kill, you can do anything.

Wiz: Uh, no, I mean his weapon is literally called Bloodlust.

  • Arsenal
    • Bloodlust
      • Vibrations destabilize molecular bonds
      • Separated mode
      • Dual mode
    • Explosive Shields
    • Powerful cyborg body

Boomstick: Oh. Appropriate. And whilst I may not know it's name, I more than know what it is capable of. Not only does it's nature as HF blade mean it can cut through any material but it can also be brought out in two different states.

Wiz: Sundowner can either use both the blades as duel weapons, but he can also combine them into what is basically a giant scissor.

Boomstick: You don't want to get caught between those blades, no matter which mode they're in because you're going to end up as a pile of limbs in no time.

Wiz: And actually harming Sundowner isn't going to be easy. Whenever he goes into battle, he can bring with him shields set up on robotic arms.

Boomstick: Not just any shields; shields that produce an explosion whenever they get hit.

Wiz: Only by slashing down in a correct path can separate the shields without detonating them. But in the heat of battle, that's going to be hard to pull off.

Boomstick: Raiden has to use the ultra-precise Blade Mode to pull that off. If he doesn't, he's getting a face-full of explosion.

Wiz: Speaking of Raiden, his quest to take down Desperado concentrated primarily on taking down Sundowner himself, who served de-facto leader of the PMC. But that was easier said that done.

  • Feats
    • Outran Raiden
    • Fought evenly against Raiden
    • Captured N'Mani
    • Wields giant metal poles as weapons
    • Can swing his blades until they are red hot
    • Defeated Gemini 1 and Gemini 2

Boomstick: Especially since other cyborgs couldn't hold a candle to this guy. On his mission to capture the politician My Man, he handedly bested two cyborg bodyguards, neither one coming close to hitting him.

Wiz: And that's from using a fighting style that is believed to be entirely self taught.

Boomstick: Nah, that's just Mauy-chete Lao.

Wiz: Don't look that up, it's not real. And with his cyborg body, Sundowner can take a great deal of damage, even from High-Frequency Blades and an explosion that launched him several feet forwards. And of course, being able to go toe-to-toe with Raiden means he's more than likely in the same ballpark as him.

Boomstick: Raiden once took a punch from Senator Armstrong that was so powerful, it completely destroyed the main body of a Metal Gear, initiating a blast worth 3 kilotons of TNT (AguilaR101) in the process.

Wiz: Raiden is also capable of moving at sub-relativistic speeds when using his Ripper Mode. Since Sundowner can match him whenever he busts out the state, it means he can also reach similar speeds. Whilst it does seem to be admittedly different to the Ripper mode Raiden used against Monsoon, the only distinct difference was that the energy bar wouldn't go down.

Boomstick: If there was one thing that can be described as Sundowner's biggest mistake was when he incurred Raiden's wrath in the first place for not only killed My Man, but also removing the brains of orphans and subjecting them to brainwashing to create a race of bloodthirsty cyborg warriors. Kind of a dick move there.

Wiz: And I suppose claiming to be, ahem, 'invincible' was nothing more than fate tempting, since Raiden handedly cut that assumption down. Along with Sundowner.

Boomstick: At least Sundowner went out with a laugh, promising Raiden that no matter what happened next, a fight would be heading his way.

Wiz: Out of all Desperado's cyborgs, Sundowner was the one to be truly feared.

Interlude[]

Wiz: Alright the combatants are set and we've run the data through all possibilities.

Boomstick: It's time for a Death Battle!

The Battle[]

Setting: Battlefield

Droids and cyborgs stood at opposite ends of the burnt and scarred rocky landscape, firing their weapons at each other. The droids where the first to stop firing when a clawed hand lifted up into the air, the robotic army taking the cue to stop firing. In confusion the cyborg army stopped shooting as well, all silently gauging this new deveopment.

Grievous: Attention cyborgs. Send me out your leader and should either one of us die a warrior's death, their troops will accordingly lay down their arms in surrender. Does that sound negotiable?

From the middle of the cyborg force, Sundowner pushed his way past his troops, unbuttoning his coat as he went.

Sundowner: Sounds good clanker-head!

He tossed away his coat and drew the two blades of Bloodlust. In accordance, Grievous ignited two Lightsabers as the cyborgs squared up to each other, standing before their armies.

Sundowner: After all, nothing I like more than dismantling shoddy pieces of junk. And I know them when I see them.

FIGHT!

At the same moment, the two charged forwards and their respective weapons flashed out. In that same moment of attack, they also drew backwards, the blades of their respective foes managing to get a hollow slash on both their chests. The two steadied their footings and peered down at their injuries.

Grievous: Hrr...

Sundowner: Well I'll be damned. Fancy little toys you've got there. But like any kid, I've my far share of them two!

He crossed his blades before drawing them apart from each other, sending out a small shower of sparks. He was suddenly lunging forwards, swinging his blades at Grievous wildly, forcing him to duck and weave beneath them. Grievous eventually countered with an upwards swing of a lightsaber, Sundowner jumping back to avoid getting cut a second time and Grievous jumped up into the air, both sabers at the ready. Sundowner dodged this attack as well, although this was more a slight back-step. Sundowner smirked and reversed the hold of both his blades, stabbing themdownards. In a surprising show of flexibility, Grievous' left foot shot out and latched onto one of Sundowner's wrists, using it as hold to swing himself about and slam his other foot into Sundowner's midriff. As Sundowner was skidding backwards, Grievous turned himself around and pounced at Sundowner, both sabers pointed out in front of himself.

Before they could connect, Sundowner's mechanical arms swung about and formed a shield in front of Sundowner's exposed chest. The moment the lightsabers touched them, an explosion went outwards and Grievous was sent reeling backwards.

Sundowner: Sweet Nelly that was a close one!

Grievous snarled as he watched more shields be deployed around Sundowner and he charged forwards, hoping to get in a hit before they could finish getting into their positions. But the shields where already up and Grievous was forced to abort his attack on Sundowner. So he tried skirting around to his side and getting him from there, yet with a command Sundowner had three of the shields swinging around, hitting Grievous with them and flinging him backwards. Grievous grounded himself with his talons piercing into the ground and he also immediately lunged back at Sundowner who simply laughed at this.

Sundowner: Don't you know by now, I'm fucking invinc-

Grievous suddenly tossed both his sabers into the air, deactivating them in the process and catching Sundowner off guard. So much so in fact that he was almost frozen with confusion when Grievous flipped forwards onto his hands and grabbed his tossed sabers with his clawed feet. With them once against activated, Grievous slashed down and dealt two strikes to Sundowner's chest before his shields could move to intercept. Sundowner cried out and stumbled backwards whilst Grievous returned his sabers to his hands. Managing a chortle, Grievous began rotating his arms around himself, creating a circle of deadly plasma. Sundowner gritted his teeth and segmented his shields together in front of him, using them to block Grievous' spinning attack. However, the intensity and strength behind the spinning made Sundowner's stance waver and he was soon forced to lean backwards.

Sundowner: Know what, I've changed my mind; give it to them boys!

Grievous: Coward! Droids, destroy them!

Both sides resumed their shooting, including several who fired missiles straight towards the fighting commanders. Taking note, the two pulled back as the missiles struck the ground, kicking up smoke and separating them from view. Sundowner stalked around blindly in the smoke, searching for his opponent before ducking beneath the laser bolt fired at him somewhere from the cover, courtesy of Grievous' personalized blaster. Sundowner whipped around to use his blades to block three more blasts before bounding forwards and slashing through the smoke, ultimately hitting nothing. From behind him, a grappling hook shot out and latched onto his back; a yank on the tether pulled Sundowner backwards further into the smoke. He was able to shake the hook off himself and turn about as he continued to go backwards, slashing out at Grievous. The General ducked beneath the attack as Sundowner's momentum rendered him on the other side of the former and the latter re-ignited his two sabers. A faster-than-eyesight slash from Sundowner cut the tops of the hilts, destroying the sabers' functions.

Sundowner: Oh dear, I seem to have broken your little toys.

Grievous: On the contrary, my battles have awarded me many trophies. As have my failures.

He pulled out two sabers in each hand, the arms of which then suddenly split up into two new ones, giving Grievous four new arms with a saber in each. He ignited all four and started to rotate two of them in front of himself as he advanced on Sundowner, who readied his barriers as he also moved forwards. When they both came within range, Grievous lashed out with his four sabers and Sundowner blocked each of these with his shields. In spite of the explosions that came from them as a result, Grievous persevered with the continuous slashes, simply tanking the explosions, whilst Sundowner prepared his own counterattack. He suddenly slashed out at Grievous' neck, forcing him to lean backwards before he had to then strafe from the other slashes Sundowner came at him with. Once there was some distance between him and his opponent, Sundowner formed his shield together and charged towards Grievous with it. He slammed straight into Grievous, who deactivated his sabers so that his claws had room to work between the gaps in the shield and with a burst of strength he was able to pull it apart. With the arms of his shields exposed, Grievous slashed down at them the same moment Sundowner attacked.

As a result, Sundowner lost all his shields whilst Grievous was left without two of his arms. The two drew backwards upon this lost, and Sundowner glared up at Grievous.

Sundowner: Oh that tears it!

His mask clamped around his eyes and he combined his two blades together into their scissor-like mode, creating Bloodlust's full form.

Sundowner: I'm gonna split you in two!

He darted forwards and slashed upwards with Bloodlust, catching Grievous up his chest with his newfound ferocity. A piece of his armor was cut off, revealing the protected organs beneath. Grievous looked down at it in dismay before he was forced to dart around the stabs/slashes of Bloodlust, before eventually ducking beneath one of them. With the new angle, Grievous lashed out with an upwards kick, catching him in the face and fracturing his visor. Sundowner bellowed and grabbed a hold of the foot, swinging the general about by it, bashing him against the ground in the process. With a grunt, he hurled Grievous away, sending him tumbling across the hard ground and costing him his two sabers.

Grievous picked himself back up, coughing slightly at the shaking-up of his organs. Sundowner marched up to his battered looking opponent and drew back Bloodlust.

Sundowner: Die!

He thrusted Bloodlust forwards, it blades pinching together in the process to split through Grievous' torso.

But the ignition of two lightsabers in front the two blades saw them get cut to pieces, sparing Grievous from being bisected. Sundowner stared at his destroyed weapon in shock before, with a few expert slashes of his sabers, sliced through Sundowner's body in a multitude of places, including through his neck, leaving his head amongst the scattered remains of his body. Grievous stared down at it and he could have sworn he heard a voice in his ear.

Sundowner: Atta-boy...head-clanker.

Grievous lifted his foot and crushed the head beneath.

KO!

Grievous hurls himself into the cyborg ranks, slicing through them at mass.

Outcome[]

Boomstick: I understand the compulsion to try and crack something that looks like an eggshell.

Wiz: Both Grievous and Sundowner were experts at being the killing machines they were designed to be. In fact, Sundowner held the strength advantage, being comparable to Raiden who lifted EXCELUS, which sources say weighs 9000 tons.

Boomstick: Whilst Grievous outmuscled Durge who is at best 2200 tons. But when it came to durability, Grievous was the tougher tin can.

Wiz: Not only did that explosion that Grievous survived destroy a city but it also nearly collapsed the surface of a planet.

Boomstick: Not to mention it takes the likes of the Force to dent that same armor and you can see how Grievous was far tougher than Sundowner, who at best could only harm or scale to those who survived town-level blast.

Wiz: However, in spite of our emphasis on toughness, it was actually kind of a non-factor, considering the near-omnipotent cutting abilities of their respective weapons.

Boomstick: That's right; this is one of the who-can-get-a-killing-blow-first based battles. And in that regard, Grievous had the edge.

Wiz: Sundowner, once again, fought Raiden who can move at sub-relativist speeds. But Grievous fought Jedi who can move close to the speed of light, or in other words fully-relativist speeds. Even if that was only at 1% the speed of light, then he would still be four times faster than Sundowner, giving him the greater chances of getting in a critical hit and thus securing him the victory.

Boomstick: So thanks his weaponry, durability and speed, Grievous could overwhelm even the stronger Sundowner. Taking him up on his offer was a Grievous mistake on his part.

Wiz: The winner is Grievous.

Trivia[]

  • Connections: Both are cyborg warriors who wield incredibly sharp weapons and multiple cybernetic arms. Both also work for divisions who are unofficially known as terrorists (the Separatists and Desperado respectively), and received their cybernetic enhancements after injuries sustained during conflicts. Both also died before the true main villain of their series made their moves.
  • Animation Style: 3D.
  • OST Idea: 'Generals of Destruction', referring to Grievous' position of general and Sundowner's group the Winds of Destruction.
