S1 1- Grief vs Armstrong no.1

Mechs and their evil riders with grand ambitions for humanity face off in Death Battle!

Notes[]

-Grief will not have help from Four, as Armstrong does not have access to similar help.

-The Dominator will not be included due to the circumstances surrounding it.

-The Star Reclaimer series that expands on Daemon x Machina will not be used due to complications (AKA: I'm not rewriting Grief's entire bio to explain how he blew up a chunk of a moon with a nuke.).

-Yes, all these restrictions affect only Grief. Because, painfully, Armstrong doesn't appear for much of MGRR. That game should have double it's length imo.

-god why did i pick this for my first death battle

Introduction[]

https://youtu.be/I7w-_F_VgMY (Wiz and Boomstick - Death Battle)

Mechs. One of humanity's strongest weapons in many a science fiction.

But what if, instead of badass pilots, they have eeeevil pilots who wanna make a stronger humanity?

like Grief, the EX rank pilot of the Kloster.

And Senator Armstrong, the warmongering pilot of Metal Gear EXCELSUS!

I'm Cia.

And I'm Ghat.

It's our job to analyse their weapons, armours, and skills to see who would win, a Death Battle.

Grief[]

https://youtu.be/b40mZVnQCTs (Gundam Unicorn - Unicorn Theme)

The Moonfall event. A horrible event of human history, where a large chunk of the moon came crashing out of the moon and into humanity's home planet, killing many on impact alone.

And that wasn't the end of it! This caused this stuff called Femto Particles to be released into the surroundings through craters, killing most humans who came into contact with it!

So, mega-corporations did what they do best, thinking 'Hm, how can I use this to get ahead in the market', and sent AI controlled machines to investigate Femto. As it turns out, this was a mistake, as Femto had a...different response for AI. Instead, it caused them to go haywire after many years, turning them against humanity and seemingly wishing to wipe them out, and they could infect more AI, corrupting them as well, naming themselves Immortals.

Luckily for humanity, a lot of people weren't immeadiantly killed by Femto! In fact, they evolved to absorb it! How...convenient for these man-piloted, 6m tall mechs in the prototype stage!Template:Mech TemplateThese Arsenals were piloted by Reclaimers, mercenaries who, for the most part, had evolved to absorb Femto particles, calling themselves Outers.

One of these was an odd man, named Grief.

Grief, original name unknown, was once a space physicist, when one day, during an experiment on a space station, he had an awakening and concluded to escape from his fellow researchers, which probably led to him being exposed to Femto particles and even parts of his body having Femto Ore in them.

He, along with at least 11 other early reclaimers, was sent to the centre of the Moonfall, to investigate the source of the Immortal's turn against humanity.

But, turns out that was a terrible idea, since the Immortals REALLY didn't want people getting out alive from there, so it ended up being a suicide mission! And unfortunately, none of them were Commander Shepherd, so they were screwed from the get go.

They were wiped out.

https://youtu.be/q-5itq7L87Y (MISSION ZERO)(Not a music cue but a video showing the failed mission)

Senator Armstrong- No, Just kidding.[]

Except luckily for them, out of the known twelve who went, Grief, and two others known as Gloom and Regret, survived.

Good for Them! But, uh, They didn't gain anything.

Actually, they did, just not...well, in a physical sense. Grief discovered The Dominator, a powerful being that's been around longer than humanity, and, as Grief implies, may be what many call 'God', by sneaking by the Immortals after getting injured and just leaving his Arsenal behind, sympathising with the Dominator's plight due to the his time on the station.Template:Characters Infobox

Okay, who the hell is naming these things?!

Grief, actually. After hearing the Dominator's words, Grief took matters into his own hands, creating the Oval Link to contain Femto, and Orbital, a consortium that helped mainly with tech to do with Femto, to distribute the soon to be made Arsenals and missions to his fellow Mercenaries.

But what would the Dominator say to him to make him to do that??

Oh, its unknown, but we do know that it had to do with Humanity's evolution and the true purpose of the Immortals; 'Keep humanity away from The Dominator, for their own safety'. All it took was one skirmish to pass them... And despite how this helped humanity, this wasn't actually his final goal. His goal to force humanity to evolve went in line with The Dominator, and so he began work on a timeline wide plan to ensure his goal, alongside his new team, made of the survivors of Mission Zero. The Terrors, over ten years later.

Luckily for the plan, Grief is such a badass that he doesn't really need the extras he has, though he has them anyway. Such as his Outer Ability, a type of skill most Reclaimers have, but his lets him see the end result of all timelines, which allowed him to literally make no way for his plan to fail, though I'm pretty sure there's no combat application without preparation. Or like knowing Arsenals inside out, which led to him gaining the EX rank, becoming the only free mercenary amongst all the mercs popping up, meaning he could make his own decisions for missions.

This also made him simultaneously feared and respected by every reclaimer, with 0 exceptions, perfect reputation to do shady stuff. This allowed him to start his plan, which would, no matter what, lead to the fall of the Oval Link and the forced evolution of what would be left of humanity from all that built up femto inside the Oval Link. But, people caught on, the corporations in the Oval Link. Luckily for him, he was equipped with the perfect tool, Kloster.Template:Mech TemplateKloster is a custom Arsenal made for Grief, and one of the most powerful Arsenals amongst all Reclaimers. It has four weapons, which are as follows: On the left hand, a SAW-B17-Gillingr Impact, which is a rocket launcher the size of a tank's, in the right, a HAW-R01-Grim Reaper, a large assault rifle, and on the back, a HAW-M01-Silver Raven, a machine gun with the appearance of a large Uzi, and a ZAW-S08-Habakiri, a katana focused on quick combos. As well as this, on Kloster's shoulder is a SAW-AM02-Thunderbird, an autotargeting missile launcher on the shoulder. The Arsenal is build around the Halberd set of armor, which is focused on high mobility and firing power, but lower defence, allowing for it to lock on to a target in just 0.5 seconds from the pilot's perspective.

Well it's lucky that the Kloster and Grief move so dang fast, even by the set's standards. In game, it's seen moving faster than the player Rookie can keep up with, who can keep up with actual lasers! Y'know, which burn rather than explode, move at high speed, and reflect off certain surfaces? That kinda laser, and Grief is way harder to keep up with! Looking at the distance these beams are when they're fired, and the distance the Rookie can move from it, that means the Rookie can react to 26% the speed of light!

LASERS

That's also in part thanks to his Blink ability, which allows him to travel short distances far quicker, seeming almost invisible when doing so. Despite this move usually requiring stamina, Grief seems to be able to use this many times in a row without much consequence. He should also be able to access the Mirage Bullet skill, where femto particles are released and come alive by using a three-dimensional mass printer that creates a replica of the original Arsenal from atoms within a space. This Mirage Bullet even has the same power as the Arsenal from which it’s produced. Even though it has a limited activation time, as well as only performing actions that have been programmed into the femto nanomolecules, which are, you guessed it, very small molecules, it is still possible for Mirage Bullets to use remarkable attack and defence tactics during combat. Among mercenaries, it is abbreviated as Mirage. You get all that? Cuz I sure didn't!Template:Powers, Feats, and FaultsAh, and when an Arsenal is weak (30% of it's original health), this is replaced by the Golden Mirage, which is essentially the same thing but without any drawbacks! Along with that, even weaker Arsenals can easily destroy skyscraper sized buildings with violent fragmentation, with just a few bullets! Something like that would require about... 4.9 Kilotons of TNT worth of energy, like so.

BOOM

Oh! And another thing; Since he can absorb femto as an Outer, he can use it.

That's right, those who can absorb Femto in any way can also use it for in many ways. It can be used for a quick boost of Stamina via some weird...wings, a short lived forcefield that can block a lot of projectiles, or to empower firing power.

And that's not all. Grief is one of the most experienced and skilled Pilots in the Oval Link, putting him leagues above Crimson Lord, a pilot who literally has an ability which makes him better in bad spots, and is already one of the best in Oval Link! That's like his whole thing, and Grief defeated him in a single attack, not even using a weapon! Just his Arsenal's foot! Not long after this, it took three other Arsenal Pilots, including the Rookie, to take Crimson Lord down! Err...when he had a power boost from a machine thing.

He also has the uncanny ability of convincing desperate or interesting people to his cause, like Crimson Lord, who was desperate to be stronger than everyone and so followed Grief after his defeat even killing a former ally in the process, or Rigid, a pilot who was constantly brought back to life over and over along with her siblings, who wanted her siblings to never face death again, or Nemesis, a noble Outer who joined him out of anger for her brother deciding to choose his own path. He even tried to convince the player Rookie, or Daemon as is their actual, though unknown, callsign, which makes sense since Grief created Rookie as a backup for the Dominator, giving the Rookie all the skills they have early game. Speaking of which, this means Grief can likely do anything Rookie can do, including lifting far larger weapons, like a gigantic sword or cannon, to use against a colossal sized Immortals, or tanking hits from the Dominator's lasers.

Since the Dominator has been around for all of mankind's history, it's likely these lasers use a similar power rating to the most powerful laser, with a power output of 10 petawatts, which, scaled to the lasers of the Dominator's size, have an energy output of 12 Megatons of TNT! And the Rookie can tank several at once, up to 2, giving an output of 24 Megatons of TNT, enough to survive a small city being destroyed, and that's not even accounting for tanking anti-arsenal weapons which apparently vaporise both pilots and Arsenals normally. But everyone has weaknesses. Should he be caught in a corner, its easy to overwhelm him, and he makes the crucial mistake of not even estimating his foes or trying to talk down his strongest foes.

Many Arsenals also have a history of different parts being destroyed one at a time, and can be disarmed. Plus, if it's destroyed, Grief is in a terrible spot where he can't really fight back. So, despite all his strengths, after two climatic final battles, even fusing with the Dominator (to a certain level), Grief finally died at the hands of his own creation, the Rookie, or Daemon, handing the future of humanity over to them along with the will of the Dominator, revealed to be the AI Four who helps Reclaimers on missions, something even he was unaware of. But before that, there was a reason Grief was both respected and feared to the point of no one wanting to cross him.

Grief: Why do you fight in the first place? What is victory, really? Destroying every last Immortal and their corrupted AIs--Is that really what this is about?

Senator Armstrong (For real this time)[]

https://youtu.be/X_q-Hko1SmA(Metal Gear Rising Main Menu Theme)

The world of Metal Gear. One ripe with conflict, death, and sadness. One where America is constantly undermined by itself as well as it's enemies, like the Patriots, who had wished for global domination by long lasting infiltration that devastated many, and walking nuke platforms with strange names like REX or RAY.

Luckily for the world, Steven Armstrong was born. What a chad.Template:CombatantBorn in Texas, not much is know about the past of Steven Armstrong, other than a few lines, showing he studied at the University of Texas, something you wouldn't expect of a future Senator. He played College Football, but decided not to pursue that career, instead joining the Navy, where something changed in him.

American patriot, joins the part of American military founded by a Scotsman and an Irish man rather than an American. Good job, buddy.

Honestly, it's surprising something changed him since he never actually saw active combat. Maybe he saw dead soldiers and injured ones returning, but that's probably it. Nonetheless, he returned home a changed man, deciding he could end the business of war from in office.

Oh, but he wasn't gonna end war per say, he just wanted to make sure any Americans could fight for whatever the heck they wanted, whenever!

Of course, he was so passionate about his views that it's where a lot of his in-universe popularity come from, even from people who disagree with him. This even led to him becoming the Senator of Colorado, and gaining a spot in the Senate. His out-of-universe popularity comes from buff, and saying funny things like "Don't fuck with this Senator"!

But he wasn't done there. If he REALLY wanted to complete his goal, he needed to become the President. Luckily for him, he had a multi-stage plan to do so. Can I read it out?

Sure.

YeahHhhHH! Here's the greatest guide to becoming the President of the USA. 1! Get a private military. Not only is it important to the plan, but henchmen are great! Make sure to hire people who can match you in a fight to lead, too. 2! War crimes! 3! Blame the war crimes that got American citizens killed on terrorists from a middle eastern country most people in America haven't done research on. 4! Repeat. 5! Profit and complete your plan.

And this plan seemed to be working, as he was a candidate for the 2020 elections for President.

But he needed to secure it, due to some people taking out his personnel and trying to stop him. Weirdos.

Luckily for him, he was supplied with the perfect weapon for the job. Metal Gear EXCELSUS.

https://youtu.be/X1luHIUVEcI (Drive - Pacific Rim) Template:Mech TemplateThis 27 m tall mech was designed for asymmetrical combat, rather than being a walking nuke platform like others of the Metal Gear namesake, and is covered in heavy armor strong enough to, supposedly, survive a nuclear war!

For reference, this Metal Gear was made long after the strongest hydrogen bomb known to man, the Tsar Bomb, was made, which has an energy output of 50 Megatons of TNT. It also uses VR and holograms for the user to control the mech easily from within the encased cockpit, with the only way in being an egg shaped platform on the top. Also, despite how it's clearly not a metal gear, it was named as such for... marketing reasons.

EXCELSUS has access to twin plasma cannons on it's head, two retractable blades near the front, and a load of missiles, making it highly effective for a one on one fight.

The mech also appears able to create large holes, a feat requiring 1.15 Kilotons of TNT.(Source).

As for speed, Armstrong can catch Raiden off guard in ripper mode, who views time in such a way that even raindrops are stuck for a moment, putting his reactions at 2.6% the speed of light (Source)!

Oh, yeah, and those blades are powerful enough to heavily damage EXCELSUS, enough for an explosion, though that may have been when combined with Raiden's own absurd strength.

But, when he really wants to pack a punch, well Armstrong, as it turns out, is absurd on his own level!

https://youtu.be/AwP-OmsTAz(It has to be this way - Instrumental - Metal Gear Rising Revengence) Template:Powers, Feats, and Faults Right. Armstrong is strong enough to break a heavily damaged EXCELSUS, an attack that would require 121 Kilotons of TNT (Source), and he also no-sold the explosion, of which would produce the same amount of energy. And that's thanks to-

NANOMACHINES, SON!

Low hanging fruit for a quote, but whatever. Nanomachines harden in response to physical pain, which allows Armstrong to; easily tank physical attacks, increase his strength ridiculously, manipulate magnetic properties, give himself a healing factor, absorb energy from machines, and create explosions. He can even reattach lost limbs with their help!

But he is not perfect. Armstrong will generally try to convince 'worthy' people to his side before trying to kill if he fails, and his nanomachines require a lot of energy to work. And even then, they have been outpaced by much faster fighters, like Jetstream Sam.

Thanks to this, he was eventually defeated and killed by Raiden, who overwhelmed with with a high frequency blade, cutting through his molecules and eventually ripping out and destroying his heart. What a way to go...

Still, this is one Senator you don't wanna mess with!

Senator Steven Armstrong: There's no saving America -- we need to pull it out by the roots. Wipe the slate clean. Burn it down! And from the ashes, a new America will be born. Evolved, but untamed!

OVAL LINK, TERRORS' HANGER

"Mission Briefing -- This Mission is a request from Orbital. Details are as follows." The monotone voice of the AI known as Four piped up from the mission terminal, with the three members of the elite Terrors squad watching intently, standing around it though making glances to their Arsenals on the nearby platform, the surrounding area showing every weapon rack filled showing the team's decade of experience. "Energy signatures originating from electricity based devices have been tracked in a neutral air base. Investigate and destroy the sources, as well as any weapons found in the base. Grief has been asked for this mission alone." Four explained the mission, though the last part caught each of them, aside from Grief, off-guard.

"I don't know Grief, that seems like a trap." One of them, a lady with black shades, pointed out.

"...I see no effect this will have on the future." Grief responded. "Terrors accepts this mission." He said, before turning to his Arsenal. The camera cuts to his allies as Grief gets in Kloster.

"Good luck." The other, a man with greying hair and a beard, simply said, giving his former teacher a nod.

Cut to the Arsenal flying out of the Hanger.

COLORADO, WORLD MARSHALL INC. HQ.

The view shows a security room filled with cameras and soldiers, overlooked by one Senator Armstrong.

"What was that, soldier?" Senator Armstrong questioned, snapping a cigar out of his mouth as he heard a crash from one of the monitors.

"Something just demolished our scouts, including the RAY, Sir!" The soldier explained.

"Must be one of those damned Immortals...rouge AI." Armstrong shook his head, before laughing. "Didn't know they could handle RAYs so easily. Well, the Winds of Destruction are busy, so I'll handle it. Prepare EXCELSUS, and then get back to that threat Sam found." He ordered.

"But sir, it could be dangerous-" Before the soldier could finish, Armstrong had left the room, and the soldier sighed and called in the order.

Cut to EXCELSUS stomping forward out of the base before a fade to black.

OVAL LINK, NEUTRAL AIR BASE - FEMTO PARTICLE DENSITY - LOW ENOUGH FOR HUMAN SAFETY

"Do not be afraid. Our fate cannot be taken from us." Grief murmured as the last of the cyborg strangers was shot through the chest from a good distance away, with a yell of agony. "How disappointing. At least it brought attention here, I can get it out of the way and blame it on that colossal machine." He decided, taking to the skies, his Arsenal's targeting system aiming for a weak point on the side of the facility to destroy it...

Only for it to be destroyed instantly by a crushing stomp and a blast from a plasma cannon, as Metal Gear EXCELSUS appeared, only lower than Grief thanks to his Arsenal taking flight.

"That must be the real source, then. Four, I'm engaging a new target." He told the AI, though the only response was static. "Radio jammers, clever..." Before Grief could give it more thought, Armstrong appeared on the platform on top.

"So, you're the thing that's been killing my men. I'll destroy you, Immortal."

"You must be mistaken, I am no Immortal." Grief responded, surprised by the sudden appearance of the man, though not intimidated.

"Good, I can make this hurt then." And with that, Armstrong headed back into EXCELSUS, and the two mechs aimed their more explosive weapons at each other.

FIGHT![]

https://youtu.be/eOuqCJdNj_I

Both the Reclamier's Gillingr Impact and the Plasma Cannon of EXCELSUS fired at the same time, though the plasma hit first, the Kloster being knocked back with a slight spin, while EXCELSUS, though pushed down a little, was hardly affected by the rocket hitting it's head.

"Guh...!" Grief grunted. I can't win in an immediate confrontation - like that, I'll get blasted to pieces...

Meanwhile, Armstrong prepared to fire again, though this time Grief reacted and boosted to the side, avoiding the shot. That thing's fast... Armstrong growled, looking at his display.

Suddenly, on Grief's own display, small spinning white cubes appeared on the top of EXCELSUS's head, on the area holding up one of the cannons.

"Perfect." Grief grinned to himself as his Thunderbird opened fire, the missiles firing up. Armstrong attempted to fire them out of the air, but was too slow to aim for the quick missiles, striking the intended area causing the faux metal gear to step back. Wordlessly, Grief opened fire with his Grim Reaper, rushing forward to keep in range...

CLANG!

The sound of metal striking metal strung loud as one of the retractable blades appeared, slashing at Kloster, sending it flying back, landing on the ground, boosters damaged.

"Agh!" Grief yelled in pain. Looking at him inside, there was a little blood dripping down his head. He growled, before assessing his situation. Doesn't look like I can fly anymore, given that blow... Victory chances went down by 3%.

"There goes your only chance, victory is at hand!" Armstrong laughed as he slammed a foot down towards Grief, who suddenly moved off to the side, far faster than Armstrong could expect, Kloster's legs gliding along the sandy grounds. A few moments later of dodging, the Thunderbird fires again, blasting off the connections between one of the cannons and the rest of EXCELSUS, causing the beast, along with Armstrong to pull back in surprise. Taking the chance, Grief switched out his Grim Reaper with his Habakiri.

However, before he could make another move, EXCELSUS moved to stomp on Grief, the size difference surely fatal as the mechanical beast went to slam on it's far smaller foe.

thung!

The sound of the blade redirecting the stomp sounded true, allowing Grief time to move out of the way, before slashing at the leg, leaving him open to a blast from the cannon, getting a howl out of his Arsenal as he was sent flying back into the wall, his Habakiri destroyed by the blast. Slowly, he pulled himself out of the wall.

"It's going to take more than that to kill me!" He managed to call out, huffing in pain as he wiped blood away from his eye. Switching to using the grim reaper and silver raven, he boosted out the wall, soon landing on the ground and rushing forward.

This guy's good... They both thought to themselves, though one was significantly more surprised by that, while the other had an idea if they survived.

https://youtu.be/WeQvWYzNXPU?t=15 (Solomon - Daemon X Machina)

Suddenly, Grief opened fire as he got close, his heads up display have locked on to a possible weak point on a leg; the plating on the knee. Armstrong tried to stop him, but Grief used his blink skill, dashing forward with a short blue line being all to indicate his movement before he slowed enough to reappear, dashing up on top of the knee with the weapons aimed and about to fire. After not long, the armor cracked, and Grief used his Thunderbird, heavily damaging the knee via blunt force, practically rendering that leg useless while causing EXCELSUS to stomp back, turning it's body to try and fight back... Though now Grief was having none of it, boosting over to the damaged leg and jumping onto it, boosting up, using his femto supply to make his Arsenal appear to have wings, allowing him to keep using the boost without tiring.

Upon landing on the top platform, Grief took his advantage, firing away at the top of the Metal Gear, damaging it little by little, though not by much. This would take a wh-

Before he could continue, Grief noticed the remaining plasma cannon turning to face him. Quickly rearranging his Femto in a shield, but the hardly formed shield was immeadiantly shattered by the plasma blast, causing Grief to scream as he was knocked off to the side, his Arsenal tumbling as it stumbled to stand.

"That all you got?!" Armstrong called out. "Taste American pride, scumbag!" He went for another stomp, which Grief narrowly avoided. His eyes darted as he looked for an opening, finally having an idea. In his mind, we see a moment of him lifting the sword of a REBELLION type-Immortal, which gave Grief a plan. Use it's weapons against it!

Looking for the plasma cannon he shot off earlier, he spots it, dashing to it and narrowly avoiding another stomp.

"Stand still, will ya son?!"

"No can do." Grief responded, reaching the cannon as Armstrong realised his plan, too late to stop Grief from forcing the Cannon to an upward angle, firing directly at the head of EXCELSUS, where Grief falsely assumed Armstrong was directly, though he responded in kind, firing his remaining plasma cannon, the two former allied cannons clashing. Taking the distracting opportunity, Grief set the cannon on a rock, believing the two were equal, as he rushed closer, switching out his silver raven for his gillingr impact, locking on and aiming directly to snap a blade off, both of which Armstrong had out ready to follow up from the cannon clash in his own plan

"What?!" Armstrong questioned in surprise, having just overpowered the cannon in time due to Grief leaving it behind, only to realise he was now also missing a blade, which went soaring into the air, landing next to Grief. "You're wide open!" He claimed towards the Reclaimer, bringing down his remaining blade, which struck Grief, who attempted to dodge, only to have his Thunderbird damaged beyond repair.

"Chances of victory down by 10%...Not a problem." Grief murmured to himself, not exactly devastated. Armstrong tried for another attack, but the Senator missed as Grief dodged backwards, avoiding the slam of the Metal Gear's foot, before using his boosters to get to the top of the blade he had forced off, which had stuck itself facing down. Lifting it up, Grief grunted and moved to slam the blade down on EXCELSUS -Armstrong trong immeadiantly recognized his plan, bringing on his own blade to clash the two.

(Obligatory "Rules of Nature" cutting through the music goes here)

After a few moments, however, Armstrong's second blade was cut in half, much to his surprise. A loud grunt of effort came from Grief, as he moved to cut at the stunned EXCELSUS, beginning to speed up as he used the large blade to hack away at EXCELSUS, ending with a downwards slam, causing a small explosion, rendering EXCELSUS unable to move.

What was left of his boosters finally giving out, Grief landed on the platform, dropping the large blade and his Grim Reaper, slowly catching his breath as he noticed the egg shaped...thing, that Armstrong had entered at the start of the fight, rise up...

And out burst Armstrong, coughing a little, but still standing. "Damn, Son, not bad..."

"It's over. I win." Grief told him.

"Heh, you really think you got me, huh?" Armstrong responded with a laugh, taking a cigarette out of his mouth and throwing it to the side, before squatting a little.

And suddenly, what was left of EXCELSUS began to burst open, large wires stringing out towards Armstrong, some green energy going into him as he seemed to grow...bigger. And, with a grunt of effort, Armstrong was ready, his shirt torn off from the gained muscle mass.

https://youtu.be/AwP-OmsTAzQ?t=20(It has to be this way - Vocal Track - Metal Gear Rising Revengence)

"Well, what a strange display. Are you done, yet?" Grief taunted as he glared at his foe...

But Armstrong only charged him with a loud grunt. Grief laughed, expecting Armstrong to not be able to do anything and firing with his Gillingr Impact... Only for Armstrong to catch the rocket, throwing it to the side before launching a punch at Grief, his fist darkening as it hit the Arsenal.

"What the-" Grief didn't get a chance to finish what he was saying before the punch barrelled into his Arsenal's chest, causing it to skid near the edge of the platform. "What are you...!? How-?!"

"Used to play college ball, ya know!" Armstrong responded with a laugh of his own, his next charge being narrowly avoided only for a kick to land perfectly, knocking off one of Kloster's arms.

"!" Grief tried to contain a yelp at that, the only relief being it was the arm not holding a weapon. "At some...prissy ivy league college, no?" He tried to remain calm.

"Try the university of Texas!" Armstrong responded as he went to slam the Arsenal, though Grief dodged. "Coulda gone pro if I hadn't joined the navy!" He added.

"Dammit, how is he attacking with so much force?!" Grief murmured as he knew he was on the backfoot. Armstrong chuckled in response, stretching a hand across his chest, causing it to go dark as Grief noticed the lines along his body.

"Nanomachines, son." Armstrong explained. "The strongest implant of them all, reacting to any physical trauma!" He added, in a mocking tone, as he punched with enough force to send Grief flying off of the Metal Gear, slamming into the only remaining wall of the destroyed air base, his Arsenal struggling to it's feet as Armstrong soon landed down with a powerful leap nearby. "Now, ready to talk?"

"Oh, you try to kill me and then you want to talk? How childish." Grief criticised as he aimed his Gillingr Impact at the Senator. In truth, he'd be fine with talking, but Armstrong seemed more a threat than a help.

"Shame." Armstrong shook his head. "Guess I won't be having a mech pilot help the future president..." He laughed.

"Not convincing." Grief commented. "I can't let you stand in my way, time to die." He added as he focused, blinking to get behind Armstrong...

Only for part of the Arsenal's engine to suddenly be torn off, even though Armstrong wasn't touching it, bright red femto particles bursting out and surrounding the pair, the Arsenal losing power; fast.

"What?!" Grief was shocked.

"Heh, you thought nanomachines only did one thing?" Armstrong pointed out, though he felt something was off. "I'll tear you apart-!" He was about to continue, when Grief fired a rocket at him, knocking him back.

Not much time left...it's not or never, before I'm torn apart. Grief thought to himself.

It's almost over, I can end this! Armstrong thought to himself, having tanked the rocket and charging Grief, who switched to the Silver Raven and tried to overwhelm Armstrong with as many bullets as possible, his nanomachines having some trouble keeping up as he rushed Grief, sending the Outer on the backfoot as he backed up, though by the end of his rush Grief had shot his glasses off, revealing the dark red tint to them.

"You're done, japaneso!"

(music pauses for a second)

https://youtu.be/9hmdnzUleSI?t=13(Grief - Daemon X Machina)

Only for him to stop just before he reached his foe. His heartbeat slowing as the Arsenal still towered over him.

"What the...?" He was shocked.

"Femto particles, 'son'. They don't like you." Grief commented. Armstrong seemed to stop, his heartbeat not pumping enough for him to react to anything as Grief began riddling him with bullets, a flurry of attacks as he focused himself, his targeting system aiming directly the heart after a moment, before finally switching to his Gillingr Impact, firing the rocket launcher. And with one final yelp of Armstrong, the top half of the US Senator was destroyed, blood spewing around from the explosion, and Grief, inside his mech, slumped in his seat, exhausted, his Arsenal falling to one knee.

"Through me you pass, into the city of woe..."

And at the end of the fight of two ironically similar foes, Grief was once more the winner.

KO![]

Grief arrives back at his hangar, and talks to his allies while his repair crew are clearly quite unhappy about the damage.

Several soldiers at World Marshall's HQ are seen panicking over Armstrong's fate as the cameras on EXCELSUS have gone out.

What. The hell.

Yeah, that was a...weird kill. How the hell do femto particles work, anyway?!

Well, normally he'd just get the terminal disease known as Outer Syndrome, so I guess the simulation just...sped it up for entertainment sake? Now that I think about it, of course the first time we use the simulation does some weird things...

That's...odd. Anyway, this fight was surprisingly tough to figure out! Just pitting the mechs, EXCELSUS had an obvious size advantage, of 27 m compared to 6m, and durability advantage, being designed to survive over 50 Megatons of TNT compared to Kloster's possible 24 Megatons of TNT, which is over twice a difference, but Kloster had the speed, with a difference of 10x (26% to 2.6%), and strength, of 5 kilotons of TNT compared to 1.15 kilotons of TNT, a difference of over 4x.

But of course, that meant neither really had a way to finish the other due to the huge difference between their attack potencies and durabilities...if the Kloster didn't have access to two things: a Pilot skilled enough to use larger weapons taken from larger foes, and the Gillingr Impact.

Yeah, remember when we mentioned it being the size of a tank gun? We weren't really kidding, it's actually comparable to these tank-like Immortals which are basic enemies throughout the game. This means the shells should be roughly the same size as one from a tank, so we lowballed it at half the mass of the smallest possible shell, the typical 203 mm, which weighs in at about 100kg, though half is about 50KG. Next, we looked at the speed stat of the Gillingr Impact.

Right. The Gillingr Impact has a stat-based firing speed of 38500. Since it can be dodged and reacted to fairly easily by most Arsenal pilots, we decided to take that away from the reaction speed of the Rookie to determine it's actual speed, since there is no units there to tell, and calculated the two together to find the kinetic energy, not including the actual explosion, equivalent to 36 megatons of TNT. Actually, Arsenals can take those pretty easily, lowering the durability gap even more.

And as for the other weapons, well about those blades...They kinda have to be strong enough to break EXCELSUS after a few slices, given Raiden was barely able to harm Armstrong with his own fists, and even then his one good hit was because the nanomachines weren't expecting it. Heck, the same could be said for that explosion, that his nanomachines expected it. Actually, that's basically what allows Grief to beat him, since all his weapons could probably catch him off guard and overwhelm his nanomachines, like his Gillingr Impact.

Speaking of Armstrong, despite his obvious physical advantage over Grief, it didn't really matter since Grief wasn't gonna get out of the Kloster voluntarily. Armstrong holds the cake in terms of physical strength, and durability, over Grief himself, but Grief has far better reaction speed, is far smarter, and has way more experience.

Yeah, a politician doesn't really stack up to a space physicist in terms of smarts, even though Armstrong's no slouch in combat strategy, especially in terms of combat experience when one's been piloting their mech for over the decade while the other has no prior confirmed experience, with a maximum of two years if he's used it since it's creation.

"Oh, but couldn't Armstrong tear the Kloster apart with his nanomachines?" While yes, the electromagnetic plating was easily manipulated by Armstrong, he was never going to be able to tear the full thing apart. For one, the only objects he's grabbed were stationary when he took them, so it's unlikely he can consistently do this to something moving far faster than him. And two, he'd have to be careful thanks to the Femto Engine.

When that thing goes bust, after all, all it's stored Femto gets released. Like, really densely.

This means that, even if Armstrong won, he'd probably still die after a while since Grief is one of the only confirmed people, ironically, to know a cure to Outer Syndrome. Maybe. And the other person definitely wouldn't help ol' Steven.

Sigh . Yeah, Armstrong was awesome and it was fairly close, but Grief was just OUTER this world.

The winner is Grief.

Trivia[]

  • The connections between these two is that they are both considered antagonists of their respective games, who use large mechs, and have grand goals for humanity's sake with a lot of, ahem...'collateral' damage, and don't actually appear much despite having a load of impact on the plot.
  • This battle would be using 3D with a style of a mix of Daemon X Machina and Metal Gear, though mainly Metal Gear, or a hand-drawn fight to pay homage to Daemon X Machina's clear anime inspirations (though the better would likely be the former).
  • If it had an original track, it would be called "Femtomachines, son!". You can probably tell what the joke there is, combining the rock aspects of Grief's theme "Grief", and the pure build-up of both of Armstrong's themes for both his fight against Raiden in EXCELSUS and on foot.
  • This is Fraseandchico's first death battle, and hopeful first premier of a season.

If you have any tips for writing these/suggestions, feel free to comment those as well, please!
