Bryant: When there's a protagonist, there's usually a rival which would push them to better themselves through competition.
Thea: But these two push their rivals to be better just by being their friend!

Gray Freezes Death Battle![]
Bryant: In the land of Fiore, there exists many guilds within the land. But the most infamous is, without a doubt, the Fairy Tail Guild.
Thea: The Fairy Tail Guild has a bunch of different mages, all with their own unique style of fighting. But what really made them stand out was their surplus of Dragon Slayers. Despite being a supposedly Lost Art, they ended up having four of the seven known Dragon Slayers. Natsu, Wendy, Laxus, and Gajeel. As the name suggests, they're the mages specifically trained to kill dragons, and they're super powerful.
Bryant: But they're by no means the only Slayer Magic users. There's one other member who trained not to tango with the mightiest beasts, but instead the most devious beings. Devils. And his name, his Grey Fullbuster.

Bryant: Grey was once a regular young boy living in a simple village far in the north. But everything changed when the village was destroyed by the colossal demon known as Deliora. Now alone, Grey swore to avenge his family by killing Deliora. To achieve this, he studied magic under the Ice Mage Ur, alongside his fellow student, Lyon.
Thea: Ur was a pretty cool chick, and she taught the two the power of creation using ice, specifically through Ice-Make Magic. She even ended up seeing them as her own kids. Gray ended up getting pretty strong as a result, and when he heard that Deliora was nearby, he decided to challenge it. Yeah, that didn't end well.
Bryant: Ur was forced to sacrifice herself, casting the deadly yet self-destructive Iced Shell, sealing Deliora away at the cost of her own life. Now having lost two families, Grey traveled to the kingdom of Fiore, where he eventually found a guild that Ur told him about, Fairy Tail. There, Grey found a new family once more, and this time resolved to do whatever it took to protect them.
Thea: This family's got all the essentials. A brother to pick fights with, an older sister to get beaten up by, a younger sister to baby, a grandpa to rely on, and more. Yeah, Gray was gonna do whatever he can to protect them. And he's got the skills to do it!

Bryant: Indeed we aren't. But, this is to be expected. Grey utilizes Ice Make Magic, a form of magic where he can create any inanimate object he desires. These extreme versatility allows Grey to use his magic in just about any way that he desires, allowing him various options for close-ranged and long-ranged offense and defense. It helps that Grey is quite intelligent. While his usual teammates such as Natsu and Erza are far from dumb in terms of combat, they have a tendency to rely almost purely on their power and/or instincts, likely due to being raised by a dragon and being self-taught respectively. However, Grey's intellectual mind allows him to set up game winning strategies that utilizes the versatility of his Ice Make Magic to its full potential. Anything he wants, he can create.
Thea: Gray usually makes a bunch of weapons that he can use in a fight. Long-ranged lances, hammers, swords, axes, shields, walls, even cages, stairs, and slides. With Ice Make: Clone, he can create a clone of himself made of ice. These clones are exact copies of him, and can take hits for him or be used as distractions. With Ice Make: Cold Excalibur, he can create waves of ice that follow his slashes. And just because he can't make living things out of ice, doesn't mean what he makes can't move. He can create towers that beat the crap out of opponents, a barrage of ice swords that fly towards his opponent, or a bunch of giant knights that fight alongside him.
Bryant: Due to the versatility of Ice-Make Magic, Grey also trained in various methods of combat. He's an expert in martial arts, but more so in weapon combat. Combining Grey's impressive skill in weapon and martial arts, and this makes Grey incredibly versatile.
Thea: And we're still not done with his magic tricks! Gray can also use regular ice magic, which makes sense. He can create just regular ice, or freeze people just by touching them, even freezing fire and boiling water in an instant. But where ice magic really shines is in Gray's two ace in the holes.
Bryant: When Ur saved Grey from Deliora, she was forced to utilize a forbidden magic: Iced Shell. By transforming her body into pure magic, Ur sealed Deliora away in an iceberg of enchanted ice, one that could only be broken through a special ritual. While it may be a fatal technique to its user, it's a surefire victory move if one lands it.
Thea: Especially since the person sealed away will have his lifeforce sapped away over time, like how Deliora just crumbled away even after being broken free.
Bryant: Despite never using the spell to its fullest, obviously considering that he's still alive, Grey knows how to cast the spell. What's more, he possesses an even greater version known as Lost Iced Shell. Not only is this version several hundred times more powerful, and has the bonus to erase the caster's very presence in people's memories. Which, when you think about it, would make Juvia, his love interest, quite confused when she wakes up one day.
Thea: Eh. I'm more of a Navia gal myself.
Bryant: Navia? How come?
Thea: Fire and water and all that.
Bryant: But Gruvia is ice and water.
Thea: Boring.
Bryant: Excuse you-!
Technical Difficulties
Thea: Alright, we're back.
Bryant: While Iced Shell would be considered to be Grey's best answer for demons such as Deliora for a while, everything changed when he met Silver, his father, who had been brought back to life as a Ice Devil Slayer of Tartaros' Nine Demon Gates. Thanks to this encounter and their battle, Grey gained access to Ice Devil Slayer magic.
Thea: Which is specifically designed to kill devils, as the name implies! With this, Gray's Ice Magics is boosted to a crazy level, and he gains access to several other magic moves. He can fire a mouth beam of ice magic from his mouth like Natsu's Fire Dragon's Roar, create a sword that freezes whatever it cuts, a bow with an arrow that turns into spikes, or a pair of gauntlets that he can use the beat the hell out of people with, or just make it rain icy shards! And if he ever runs low on magic, he can just recharge by eating ice!
Bryant: Now, we've never actually seen Grey eat ice to replenish his magic before, but given that Grey obtained access to this magic thanks to it being handed down to him by Silver himself, who did use this technique, it would make sense that Grey would be able to use it himself.
