Intro[]

Carl: Most, if not all, heroes and legends have some sort of a mentor. Someone to act as a guiding light for them, to help them prevail in the end.

Yazo: But why are they all cooky old men? Like Gran Torino, the retired hero who mentored both All Might and Izuku Midoriya.

Carl: And Mustard, the Isle of Armor's Dojo Master.

Yazo: He's Carl and I'm Yazo!

Carl: And it's our job to analyze their armor, weapons, and skills to find out who would win a Death Battle!

Bizzare! Gran Torino appears in Death Battle![]

Carl: We've talked plenty about the world of My Hero Academia, a world where 80% of the population have a special power called Quirks, which are basically genetic super powers.

Yazo: ...Like X-Men?

Carl: No, shut up.

Yazo: This is just anime X-Men, isn't it?

Carl: Will you stop talking for once, please? Anyways, these powers manifested after a certain child was born, although no one knows what caused the development of meta powers in humans, be it a mutation from mice or the natural evolution of the human race, but it matters not. But these powers brought upon heroes and villains.

Yazo: Yeah, like All For One. I think the guy's name kinda tells you what he's all about? This guy was blessed with the power of stealing other's powers and give 'em to other people. But y'know what Newton once said, every action has an opposite reaction or something like that, I never really paid attention to science or math class.

Carl: Of course you didn't. But, like Yazo said, while All For One was evil, his brother, Yoichi Shigaraki, was the good guy to All For One's bad guy. Although he didn't have any powers... or did he?

Yazo: DUN DUN DUNNNNNN!

Carl: But All For One, in an act of... uh... humiliation...? He gave his brother a power, the power of stockpiling. But it turns out that Yoichi did have a power, it was Quirk Bestowal. The combination of these two powers molded together to create a new one. One For All, the opposite of All For One. But, being rather physically weak, Yoichi couldn't make use of this new power.

Yazo: He was soon killed by his evil brother, who was basically a criminal mastermind by the way, thought I'd mention it before we forget. But the power went to someone else. It went through a lot of hosts, before eventually reaching Nana Shimura, who was the seventh user of One For All.

Carl: Nana was a brave soul. Even as she faced her final foe of All For One, she held a smile and left everything in the hands of her successor. And in the hands of her close friend, who she trusted to serve as a mentor to her successor, Toshinori Yagi. But you may know him as All Might, the Symbol of Peace.

Yazo: Yup! This friend of Nana was the one who trained the number one hero! Who could it be? Well, it's-

Yazo: YODA!?

Carl: Yes, a majority of My Hero Academia was inspired by Star Wars, and this is no different. The character of Gran Torino was inspired by Yoda. But back to the story, Gran Torino was a pro hero, a teacher at U.A. High-

Yazo: Basically Superhero Highschool.

Carl: -And a close friend of Nana Shimura, who had a, uh, unfortunate case of death, leaving Gran Torino to train her successor, Toshinori, all on his own. And he did a really good job. Toshinori soon became All Might and practically sky-rocketed himself to become the number one hero, even defeating All For One, albeit at the cost of damaging himself.

Yazo: Once he figured that the world was relatively safe in the hands of All Might, Gran Torino retired from hero work and teacher work, where the guy kinda chilled in a small apartment flat by himself. He grew older and changed in more ways than one. The guy went from 200 cm to 120 cm and got really... aloof and carefree.

Carl: But his teaching instincts never really stopped. Once Gran Torino learned that All Might had a successor of his own, a young boy named Izuku Midoriya, he immediately sent in a letter under the guise of an internship for Izuku to be trained. And it really showed the Gran was a much better teacher than All Might had ever been.

Yazo: Oh, yeah, definitely. All Might wasn't bad, but... Gran Torino taught more to Izuku in a week than All Might did in a year. Under the facade of a senile old man, Torino proved himself to be a very intelligent guy with a very broad perspective. The guy watched Izuku on TV once and immediately could understand Izuku's progress on One For All and his personality. Hell, Gran managed to teach Izuku by indirectly comparing him to taiyaki- what the hell is that?

Carl: It's a fish-shaped pastry.

Yazo: Ah. This smart-ass old man even figured out the strategy of All For One based off a newspaper he read on another damn villain, that being the Hero Killer: Stain. But Gran Torino isn't just smart, he's a great teacher. A combination of being strict while also giving his students praise when they deserve it, there's no reason to doubt why All Might and Izuku went on to do some great things.

Carl: But in a world of powers, there's no reason to doubt that he has one as well.

Carl: His Quirk is called Jet. Basically, Gran Torino can use the very oxygen he breathes to propel himself from his feet, which greatly increases his speed and striking strength based on just how fast he's moving. It also makes him kick very, very, very hard. His boots are specifically designed with holes in the bottom in order to not get in the way of his Quirk. The only downside, well, it requires him to use the oxygen he breathes.

Yazo: But even without it, the guy is still a kickass hand-to-hand fighter. This dude taught All Might how to fight in his early years, and that guy is no joke when it comes to being a fighter. Trust me, you do not wanna get into an arm wrestling contest with this guy. He'd snap you in fucking half.

Carl: Back on point, yes, Gran Torino is quite skilled at using his arms and legs to fight, even to the point of some very impressive things. Not just in his physical abilities, but also in his intellect, as we've already discussed. Now lets get into his feats.

Carl: Gran Torino was capable of knocking out some weaker members of the League of Villains in a matter of seconds, such as Twice, Magne, and Spinner. Twice and Spinner were both capable of taking hits from the likes of Gigantomachia, a giant who could cause a category 5 earthquake just by moving. And the League of Villains have literally sparred with Gigantomachia before.

Yazo: Ol' Torino over here was also capable of one-shotting White Nomu while going all out. Hell, he went so hard that he smashed a good chunk of the road in the process while killing 'em. While White Nomu's are one of the weaker Nomu variants, the one that Gran Torino fought had the Quirk known as Muscle Augmentation, which allows the user to amplify their strength. And even despite that, Gran Torino STILL oneshot that Nomu's ass.

Carl: He could move faster than Izuku Midoriya, someone who is comparable to lightning and laser dodgers, could perceive, meaning Gran Torino can easily move faster than light. He could also take a hit from All For One, albeit barely, who's comparable to the weather changing All Might. Speaking of All Might and Izuku, two very analytical fighters, Gran Torino trained them. Examples such as All Might deducing the weakness of Nomu by knowing its quirk, Shock Absorbtion, and Izuku coming up with a plan to defeat a group of villains with only himself, Froppy, and Grape Juice, while surrounded.

Yazo: And his stamina is no joke. He kept fighting after taking a hit from All Might himself and survived Shigaraki punching a hole through his stomach! That takes spirit, not gonna lie.

Carl: But he does have downsides, or rather, his Quirk does. You see, Jet takes the air that it produces straight from the air the Gran Torino breathes, meaning it can suffocate him if he's not careful. Not to mention that he's very old, meaning that he could potentially strain his body too much and push himself too far.

Yazo: What, like break a hip?

Carl: No, more like stopping his heart from pumping blood.

Yazo: Ah. Well, uh, besides that, while Gran Torino may be finished as a hero, rest assured that he's more than willing to train the heroes to come until he takes his final dying breath.

"'I have to get stronger quickly', you say. It's true. Time is not on your side—nor on your enemies'. And they won't wait for you to get stronger."

Master Mustard is pleased as cheese to be in Death Battle![]

Note: Single Strike Urshifu is going to be used for the sake of simplicity.

Carl: The Galar region is as vast as its trainers are strong. From its ancient history of the Darkest Day to its unique league system, there's no shortage of interests and sights to see. But just who is the strongest trainer in the Galar region? Well, that would depend how far in Galar's history you go. If you were to ask nowadays, the answer you would probably receive would be the champion with the title of undefeatable, Leon.

Yazo: Well, until he gives a lizard, rabbit, or monkey to a child, that is.

Carl: But there were champions before Leon. Unlike most of them, Leon didn't actually achieve his title by defeating a champion, more-so by beating out his competition, since there was no champion at the time. Since the previous two both actually retreated from the role after certain events in their lives. Peony, the Steel type master, left the Pokemon League after his older brother, Rose, became the Chairman of the Pokemon League. The other? Well, his reason was a bit more seldom.

Yazo: And this guy was awesome. He held his title for eighteen years, about fifty years prior to the events of Pokemon Sword and Shield. The previous champion was...

Yazo: What the fuck?

Carl: Don't let his... old appearance and jovial chatter fool you, this is the ex-champion of Galar, Mustard. In the past, Mustard was a Fighting type Gym Leader, before becoming the League Champion of Galar after a heated battle against the Fairy type Gym Leader, Opal, fifty years before the events of the main game. He held his position for eighteen years, as we said, and only ever lost it after... Mustard lost his way.

Yazo: His partner Pokemon tragically passed away and his battle prowess began to wane afterwards. It eventually led to him losing his title and then retiring after the then chairman of the Pokemon League suggested a rigged match in his favor to win his title back. The humble Mustard said no and traveled around the world, until he bought an unnamed island off the coast of Galar. He eventually named it himself, the Isle of Armor.

Carl: He set up the Master Dojo to train people about Pokemon battles. One of his students even ended up becoming the Champion himself, Leon. Although no student ever did complete the entire trial that Mustard had set up. Even Leon failed since he couldn't find either of the two towers that Mustard had set up, being the Tower of Two Fists.

Yazo: But then, the protagonist being all protagonist-y, they appear and ace the trials. The three trials involve catching some VERY fast Slowbro, finding Max Mushrooms, beating the shit out of either Avery or Klara, then training this small little Pokemon that Mustard gives to the player. This small panda looking thing called Kubfu.

Carl: Kubfu, the Fighting type Wushu Pokemon, is a unique Legendary Pokemon where more than one exists and can evolve, evolving into Urshifu. But Urshifu has two different forms, depending on which tower it is taken to and which scroll it is exposed to. It either evolves into the Fighting-Water Rapid Strike Style form, or the one we're using for this battle, the Fighting-Dark Single Strike form.

Yazo: And once the player has evolved their Kubfu into Urshifu, the Dojo Master, Mustard, challenges them to one last battle where he holds nothing back.

Carl: Mustard's first Pokemon is Mienshao, the Martial Artist Pokemon. Its ability is Inner Focus, which prevents it from flinching. It knows Fake Out, Close Combat, Blaze Kick, and U-Turn. Fake Out flinches the foe but only ever works as the first attack. Close Combat is a quick beatdown that deals a lot of damage but lowers Defense and Special Defense after landing it. Blaze Kick is an ignited kick that has an increased critical hit ratio and can burn the target. And U-Turn is a tackle that surrounds Mienshao in glowing green energy, before hitting the foe and leaving the battlefield, substituting out with another foe.

Yazo: His next Pokemon is Luxray, the Gleam Eyes Pokemon. Its ability is Intimidate, which lowers the foe's Attack when introduced to the battlefield. Its moves are Wild Charge, Crunch, Psychic Fangs, and Play Rough. Wild Charge is a powerful Physical electric move that deals recoil damage. Crunch is a powerful bite move. Psychic Fangs is the same, just with psychic power added into the mix. And Play Rough is a Fairy type beatdown move.

Carl: Then there's his Corviknight, the Raven Pokemon. Its ability is Unnerve, which makes the foes too nervous to eat berries. Its moves are Iron Head, Brave Bird, Light Screen, and Body Press. Iron Head is a physical move where Corviknight bashes the foe with its head, having a chance to make the opponent flinch. Brave Bird is an extremely powerful tackle that deals recoil damage to Corviknight. Light Screen is a status move that decreases damage from Special Moves. And Body Press is a move that uses the user's Defense stat to calculate damage, which is useful to Corviknight as its Defense is 105, higher than its base attack, 87.

Yazo: Then there's the Wolf Pokemon, Lycanroc. This mutt's ability is Keen Eye, which prevents Lycanroc from having its accuracy lowered. Its moves are Stone Edge, Accelerock, Play Rough, and Stealth Rock. Stone Edge is a strong move but has a pretty good chance to miss. Accelerock is a priority move that has Lycanroc moving quicker than usual, Play Rough is the same Fairy type beatdown that it is on Luxray, and Stealth Rock is a status move that covers the ground around the opponent's feet with sharp rocks. These deal a small bit of damage when you step of 'em.

Carl: Then there's the pseudo-legendary from Alola, Kommo-o, the Scaly Pokemon. Its ability is Soundproof, which makes Kommo-o immune to sound based moves. Its moves are Clanging Scales, Flash Cannon, Aura Sphere, and Clangorous Souls. Clanging Scales is an extremely powerful Dragon type move, but decreases Kommo-o's Defense by one stage. Hardly a problem when Kommo-o has a base Defense state of 125. Flash Cannon is a Steel type Special move that has a chance to lower Special Defense when hitting a foe. Aura Sphere is a Special Fighting type move that bypasses accuracy checks, meaning its pretty damn accurate. And Clangorous Souls is a status move that raises Kommo-o's Attack, Defense, Special Attack, Special Defense, and Speed by a single stage, but costs one third of Kommo-o's remaining HP.

Yazo: But then there's his ace Pokemon, Urshifu. Yup, Mustard's got one too! There's usually two different types, but we're using Single Strike Form for the sake of simplicity. Its ability is Unseen Fist, which is a BUSTED ability that fucking bypasses protection moves when using a contact move! It's insane! And its moves are insane to boot, with Wicked Blow, Close Combat, Iron Head, and Poison Jab! Wicked Blow is Urshifu's signature move, a move that always induces a critical hit, unless you have an ability that specifically nulls critical hits. Close Combat is, as was mentioned, a powerful Fighting type beatdown move that lowers Urshifu's Defense and Special Defense after using it. Iron Head was already mentioned too, a Steel type move that has a chance to flinch the foe. And Poison Jab is a Poison type move that has a chance to inflict the poison status effect onto foes.

Carl: But that's not all. Mustard can also use Gigantamax to increase the size and power of Urshifu. This turns Poison Jab into Max Ooze, an attack that raises the user's Attack by one stage. Iron Head becomes Max Steelspike, an attack that raises the user's Defense by one stage. Close Combat becomes Max Knuckle, which is an attack that increases Attack, much like Max Ooze. And then Wicked Blow becomes G-Max One Blow. This is a devastating move that works regardless of a protection hit. This goes even beyond Unseen Fist, as the only protection move it couldn't go through was Max Guard, but G-Max One Blow can go through it.

Yazo: One Blow, huh?

Carl: Don't say anything.

Yazo: I don't need to. The jokes write themselves.

Carl: Ugh. Anyways, Mustard and his Pokemon are both capable of brilliant things.

Yazo: By himself, Mustard's no slouch. He should be physically superior to the likes of Guzma from the Alola region, who could physically overpower two Team Rainbow Rocket grunts by himself. Even if you don't scale these grunts to the likes of Jessie and James, this is still pretty impressive. Not many guys can fight two people at the same time and overpower them with little effort. And he was capable of moving a pretty great distance without Klara or Avery noticing. And Avery's a fucking psychic! He should also scale to Leon, who could run through a crowd fast enough for only his cape to be spotted.

Carl: But where Mustard becomes truly impressive is what his Pokemon are capable of pulling off. His strongest Pokemon, Urshifu, is comparable to lower end Legendary Pokemon such as Regice, Groudon, and Eternatus. Even his weaker Pokemon are capable of great things, like when his Mienshao was able to hold its ground against Leon's Charizard, his strongest Pokemon, despite having a type disadvantage against it.

Yazo: Pokemon can naturally fight at light speed and Mustard is capable of perceiving these battles while commanding his Pokemon. And he's done this a lot. He's a former Gym Leader and Champion that reigned undefeated for eighteen god-damned years.

Carl: But for as great as he is, he does have a few downsides. His Mienshao is weak to Flying, Psychic, and Fairy. His Luxray is weak to Ground. His Corviknight is weak to Fire and Electric. His Lycanroc is weak to Water, Fighting, Ground, and Steel. His Kommo-o is weak to Ice, Flying, Psychic, Dragon, and Fairy. And his Urshifu is weak to Fighting, Flying, and Fairy. Not to mention that things such as Dynamaxing only lasts for a limited amount of time.

Yazo: But for as long as he still has his Pokemon by his side, he'll continue battling and training the future generation.

"Strength ebbs and flows in an endless cycle. One moment you grasp it, and the next, it slips from your hand. But the strength you have now-the strength that let you defeat me-it is unwavering! Congratulations, from the bottom of my heart!"

Pre-Death Battle[]

Carl: Alright, the combatants are set and we've run the data through all possibilities. Let's end this debate once and for all!

Yazo: And right now, it's time for a DEATH BATTLEEEEE!!!

Death Battle![]

On the Isle of Armor, the Master Dojo was bustling with various students being taught under it training their bodies and Pokemon alike, while strengthening their bonds with their Pokemon as well. But today was a bit different, as a small group of special guests had just arrived at the island, via the train that connected it to Galar.

Izuku Midoriya walked out of the train station and onto the beach right outside, followed by Toshinori Yagi, better known as All Might, and a third person. Izuku enthusiastically began sprinting down the beach in the direction of the Master Dojo. Toshinori chuckled as he walked in the same direction.

“Still enthusiastic, eh? Suppose some things never change.” The former Symbol of Hope said as he began walking along the beach, giving a brief glance to the man who trailed behind him, Sorahiko Torino, better known as Gran Torino.

“Yes. Some things never change. You used to be a lot like him, Toshinori.” Gran Torino said as he began walking alongside All Might with his cane in hand, leaving prints in the sand as he walked along it.

Toshinori chuckled again before the two headed towards the Master Dojo, Izuku being barely in sight anymore with how fast he was running. Soon enough, they’d all make it to the doors of the dojo, before Izuku excitedly opened them.

Several students inside turned as Izuku walked into the dojo, followed by Yagi and Gran Torino. They received a load of welcomes from the various students, before they returned their focus to their training. Eventually, the owner of the Master Dojo himself came from his room to greet the three new arrivals.

“Why hello there! My name is Mustard! I'm pleased as cheese you could join us!” The Dojo Master said enthusiastically with a small wave as he walked into the room. The three visitors greeted the master, but it didn’t take long before Izuku and All Might had run off. Mustard chuckled to himself as he watched the young hero run off to do training against wild Pokemon of the Isle of Armor with the blonde man trailing behind him.

“Ah, young'uns. I remember when I had that much energy, always buzzing to go train and battle. A fine lad, that is.” Mustard mused to himself out loud, holding his hands behind his back. Gran chuckled in response, turning towards the man.

“Mm, I do too. A fine lad he is indeed, we’ve trained him well. Although Toshinori tends to make… a few decisions that I cannot fathom.” Gran said in mild exasperation. Mustard nodded with a gleeful smile on his face.

“I can relate with unruly students. I’ve had more than my fair share of troublemakers and prodigies,” Mustard replied, before a glint of curiosity entered the old man’s face. “Say, if you don’t mind, would you like to partake in a little sparring session? It could do wonders to reinvigorate our old fighting spirit.” Mustard suggested. Gran thought about it for a few seconds, before nodding.

“Sure. I don’t see why not. I don’t have anything else to do that Toshinori can’t handle.” Gran said with a bout of laughter. Mustard nodded and led Gran towards the back doors of the Dojo, opening them to reveal the battle court of the Dojo.

“Let us have a nice and friendly battle, shall we?” Mustard asked cheerfully, and Gran nodded. “Of course.” He said with a smile. The two walked towards each of the sides of the battlefield, before they turned towards each other. Mustard threw off his green coat and performed a flip, getting into a battle-ready position with a Pokeball in hand, before sending out his first Pokemon, Mienshao.

The two narrowed their eyes at each other, before Mienshao and Gran Torino both shot towards each other at incredible speeds.

FIGHT![]

Gran Torino and Mustard’s Pokemon clashed against each other at high speeds, creating a burst of wind that whipped up around the entire arena, before the two hopped backwards and away from each other. Gran Torino activated his Quirk and began to shoot himself all around the arena, moving at high speeds.

“What an interesting technique…” Mustard murmured to himself as Mienshao looked around in mild confusion, struggling to get a lock on Torino’s position. Mienshao was suddenly struck from behind, kicked in the back of the head, before being kicked straight in the stomach, the Martial Arts Pokemon being pummeled by someone it couldn’t even see.

“Mienshao, use Fake Out.” Mustard instructed. Mienshao leapt upwards, before Gran Torino shot towards it from below. Mienshao swung an arm at the barreling ex-hero, striking him out of the air and causing him to flinch.

“Good, good! Now, Blaze Kick.” Mustard added. As Mustard gave the command, Mienshao’s leg became surrounded in fire as it raised it to kick Gran, thrusting its foot towards Torino, but the hero managed to narrowly shoot out of the way of it.

“Hm… Mustard’s quicker than I thought.” Gran Torino thought to himself as he backpedaled away from Mienshao, performing a flip and landing across the battlefield. He glanced around the battlefield briefly, before shooting upwards into the air, before flying downwards to kick Mienshao. The Pokemon managed to evade the attack by dodging off to the side, causing Gran to smash into the battlefield, creating a small crater and kicking up a few rocks in the process.

Gran swung his leg, striking the rocks out of the air and throwing them at Mienshao. Caught off-guard by the sudden follow-up attack, Mienshao was hit by most of the rocks, before a dropkick was delivered to Mienshao’s stomach, causing the Pokemon to slide backwards.

“Wonderful planning, Torino! Mienshao, use Close Combat!” Mustard shouted. Mienshao rushed towards Gran Torino, throwing several punches and kicks at Gran, before delivering a roundhouse kick at Gran, launching him into the air.

“Now, U-Turn!” Mustard finished. Mienshao enveloped itself in a green energy ball and flew towards Gran, slamming into him and launching him further into the air. Gran used his quirk to shoot himself back towards the ground. But to his surprise, Mienshao had retreated back into its Pokeball. Replacing it on the field was Mustard’s Luxray.

“He swapped out his Pokemon?” The Gleaming Eyes Pokemon growled as Gran thought to himself, causing a chill of anxiety to shoot down his spine, but he ignored it, resuming to use his quirk to shoot around the battlefield, waiting to see what Mustard would do next.

“Luxray, use Crunch. Snag him out of the air.” Mustard commanded, receiving a roar from Luxray in response. Luxray rushed forward and leapt upwards, managing to wrap its teeth around Gran Torino’s boot, before pulling the hero to the ground and slamming him against it.

“Now, Wild Charge!” Mustard added, thrusting a hand out. Luxray’s body began to crackle with electricity in response.

“I don’t think so.” Gran murmured under his breath, aiming his free leg at Luxray’s face and activating his quirk, shooting himself out Luxray’s grip, along with blasting the Pokemon with heavy winds that pushed it backwards.

“Impressive.” Gran said as he flipped back onto his feet, skidding across the ground. Luxray continued to crackle with electricity, eventually enveloping its entire body with it and shooting towards Gran, but he shot upwards into the air just before it hit him. But to Gran Torino’s surprise, Luxray looked upwards, before leaping up after Gran.

Torino shot to the side in order to avoid the ascending Luxray, before using his quirk to fly around Luxray and deliver an axe kick that knocked Luxray straight out of the electricity and sent it flying all the way down to the ground. Gran Torino took in a big gulp of oxygen, before shooting down towards Luxray, kicking it out of the air and slamming it all the way down to the ground.

Dust was thrown up as Mustard covered his eyes with his arm. When it settled after a few seconds, another crater had formed on the battlefield, with Gran standing on top of an unconscious Luxray inside of it. Gran performed a backflip off of Luxray and landed, before taking several deep breaths, all while Mustard returned Luxray to its Pokemon, giving a smile and a nod to the Pokeball.

“Amazing. Kudos to you, friend.” Mustard congratulated as he pulled out another Pokeball. Gran nodded while panting, a smile of his own spreading across his face.

“Thank you. You’re talented yourself. The way your Luxray caught me out of the air was most impressive.” Gran Torino replied with a slight bow. Mustard chuckled to himself as he prepared to throw his next Pokeball.

“It seems that our age hasn’t caught up with us at all.” He said as he threw his Pokeball, re-releasing Mienshao onto the battlefield, already in a battle-ready pose. Gran Torino took a final deep breath, before readying himself as well.

“Use Fake Out!” Mustard yelled out as Mienshao rushed towards Gran Torino, swinging both of its arms at the ex-hero, but he activated his quirk and shot upwards, avoiding the swing, before spinning around in the air and firing down towards the Pokemon and kicking it directly in the head, smashing it into the ground in the process.

Gran Torino hopped off of the Pokemon once more to reveal an unconscious Mienshao. Mustard sighed as he returned his fainted Pokemon to its Pokeball and took out another one, throwing it forward with expert precision. Out came Corviknight, releasing a loud caw as it entered the battlefield.

“Iron Head, Corviknight!” Mustard instructed. Corviknight let out another caw before jutting its head down and flying directly towards Gran, but the hero dodged to the side, only for the bird Pokemon to steer off to the side and turn, slamming into the hero’s stomach and throwing him across the battlefield.

Gran Torino quickly recovered and shot around the arena once more at blinding speeds, attempting to kick Corviknight from several directions. “Light Screen.” Mustard instructed, a pink forcefield beginning to appear around Corviknight as Gran Torino attempted to kick the Raven Pokemon from multiple angles, only to hit the forcefield.

“Now, Brave Bird!” Mustard ordered as Corviknight let out a caw, before shooting forward as the forcefield disappeared. It flew forward in a straight line. Gran Torino tried to intercept the bird Pokemon, but was struck out of the air himself, thrown into the air by the force of being hit by Brave Bird.

Corviknight flew at Gran Torino as he was launched into the air, but the ex-hero did a twist in mid-air and kicked the Pokemon right in the face, before turning in the air again and tackling into the Pokemon, throwing the two towards the ground.

Corviknight pecked at the hero and tossed Gran Torino off of him, before spreading out its wings and flying upwards right before hitting the ground. Gran Torino rolled across the ground, before taking another deep breath and then activating his quirk to shoot himself at Corviknight, drop kicking the Pokemon across the battlefield and slamming it into the side of the arena.

Corviknight fell to the ground, fainted, as Gran Torino performed a backflip and landed back on the ground. Mustard chuckled quietly as he took out his Pokeball and returned Corviknight to it. “Take a good long rest,” He said to his Pokeball, before glancing up towards Torino. “Your reputation precedes you, Gran Torino!”

Gran Torino chuckled. “Same to you, Master Mustard.” Mustard nodded before pulling out his next Pokeball. The Wolf Pokemon, Lycanroc, was released onto the battlefield and let out a howl, before lowering its head and narrowing its head at Gran Torino with a low growl. Gran Torino readied himself as Mustard gave out his next command.

“Accelerock, Lycanroc!” Mustard commanded as Lycanroc suddenly shot towards Gran Torino at incredible speeds. Gran Torino shot upwards with his Quirk, but Lycanroc leapt upwards and attempted to bite at the hero, but he managed to barely shoot out of the way by the skin of his teeth.

The mid-air chase continued for several seconds as Gran and Lycanroc dodged around in the air. Eventually, Torino managed to outmaneuver Lycanroc in the air, delivering an axe-kick to the Pokemon’s snout and throwing it out of the air. It landed on its paws and skidded across the ground as Gran Torino gracefully landed on the ground.

“Now, Stealth Rock.” Mustard instructed. Lycanroc let out a howl as several rocks were suddenly flung onto the battlefield, scattered about. Gran Torino took an experimental step forward, but recoiled as he made contact with the rocks.

“A battlefield hazard! Is he trying to get me to stay in the air?” Gran Torino thought to himself as Lycanroc suddenly bolted towards the hero, baring its fangs and chomping towards the hero, but he managed to duck under it and crouch down under the Pokemon, before stretching out both of his legs and kicking the Pokemon upwards into the air.

“He takes deep breaths whenever he activates his power. I presume that it’s based on how much air he takes in when inhaling. Getting him to stay in the air would cause him to waste that air.” Mustard thought to himself idly as Lycanroc spun in the air and Gran Torino shot towards him.

“Play Rough!” Mustard instructed his Pokemon. Lycanroc turned towards Gran Torino in the air and fell down towards him as he shot towards it. The two tussled in the air, becoming enveloped in a cartoony puff of smoke, before the two were knocked away from each other. Gran Torino was forced to land on the rocks, wincing as he did so but fighting through the pain.

Before Mustard could shout another command, Gran shot forward at the Wolf Pokemon and delivered a kick to its chin, throwing it backwards and into the side of the arena. To Gran’s relief, Lycanroc had been taken out. Mustard nodded as he retreated the unconscious Pokemon and threw out his next one, Kommo-o.

The Scaly Pokemon let out a roar before barreling towards Torino at an unusually fast speed, but Gran dashed out of the way, avoiding a claw swipe from the pseudo-legendary. Gran Torino resumed his usual strategy of darting around and delivering kicks to the Pokemon, but its armor made it relatively unaffected by it. Not to mention that the sharp rocks across the battlefield made it harder.

“Flash Cannon.” Mustard instructed as Kommo-o aimed a hand at Gran Torino and fired a silver-white energy ball, but the ex-hero easily avoided it. Kommo-o launched several more, all of which were dodged, although it became progressively more difficult as the barrage continued. Gran eventually got close enough to kick the Pokemon several times, but it spun around and swept its tail out, knocking the hero away and causing him to skid across the ground.

“Clanging Scales, Kommo-o!” Mustard yelled, right before Kommo-o rubbed the scales on its body together and released a blast of sound towards Gran Torino, but he shot to the left and narrowly avoided the attack by a hair. Gran Torino then shot towards the Pokemon and kicked him with both legs, causing Kommo-o to slide backwards.

The pseudo-legendary let out an ear-piercing roar that shook the arena as Gran Torino landed back on the ground. “Use Aura Sphere, Komm-o!” Mustard commanded as a blue energy ball began to form in the Pokemon's hand, before shooting it towards the ex-hero at blistering speeds.

The sphere of energy slammed into Gran and threw him across the arena, slamming him into the back end of it, kicking up dust in the process. Mustard and Kommo-o hesitated as they waited for a reaction. Before Mustard could call out to the hero, the winds whipped up and air whizzed past the master's ear.

Before Mustard could react, something suddenly smashed into Kommo-o from above, slamming its head into the ground, knocking out the Pokemon immediately. Gran Torino appeared, standing a few feet away from the downed Pokemon, panting heavily and attempting to catch his breath. A few more seconds and a grin cracked on the Dojo Master's face.

“Astounding! Truly spectacular!” He said cheerfully as he returned Kommo-o to its Pokeball and slid it into his pocket. He pulled out his last one and gave it a soft glance, tossing it up and down in his hand, before throwing it forward.

Out from the Pokeball with a battle-ready cry, Urshifu landed on the ground with grace, immediately getting into a combat pose. Gran Torino held up a finger while panting, initiating Mustard and Urshifu to briefly hesitate.

“Just… a moment… if you would.” Gran Torino murmured in-between pants. Mustard nodded with a slight chuckle.

“Of course! Take all the time you need!” Mustard said while scratching the back of his head. Gran nodded back with a tired grin of his own, before resuming to pant and catch his breath. Eventually, he stood up, rolled his neck, and prepared himself once more.

“All right. We may resume.” Gran Torino said, preparing to use his Quirk at moment's notice. Mustard chuckled with a nod.

“Right. Urshifu, Iron Head.” Mustard instructed. Without any hesitation, Urshifu shot towards the ex-hero like a bullet, swinging its upper body forward for a headbutt. Gran Torino shot off to the side and evaded the attack. Urshifu came to a stop, skidding across the ground. Gran Torino bounced off of the arena's side, before launching himself back towards Urshifu and kicking it in the back of the head, sending the Pokemon rolling across the ground.

Urshifu got up swiftly by rolling back onto its feet and dodged Gran Torino's next attack by leaping upwards and landing a few feet behind Gran Torino. It threw a roundhouse kick at the hero, but Gran Torino did a backflip and dodged it.

“Poison Jab!” Mustard shouted. Urshifu's fist began glowing purple as the Pokemon rushed towards Torino, throwing the poisonous punch at the hero, striking him right in the chest. Gran Torino flew backwards and managed to stop himself, ducking down to dodge Urshifu’s next Poison Jab.

“Wicked Blow.” Mustard said, prompting Urshifu to become surrounded by an aura of darkness, before shooting towards Gran Torino, faster than before. The hero tried to raise his arms to protect his face, but the Pokemon faked him out and threw the punch into his stomach. Gran Torino flew further backwards and slammed into the back of the arena, kicking up dust in the process.

Before Urshifu could do anything else, Mustard was suddenly standing at his Pokemon's side, gesturing for it to stand down. As the dust settled, Gran Torino limped out of the small crater in the side of the arena that had been formed, holding his stomach with both hands.

“I believe that's enough for today,” Mustard said as he nodded towards Gran Torino's cane, which was propped up against the wall. Urshifu glanced at it before nodding at its trainer, running towards it and grabbing the cane, before rushing back and giving the cane to Gran Torino, giving him an easier time walking.

“Yes… You're a brilliant battler, Master Mustard. I'm honored to have been able to spar against you.” Gran Torino said as the two elderly men began walking back towards the Dojo.

“Why thank you, Gran Torino. Though I must say, you're rather skilled yourself. Your tactics certainly threw little ol’ me for a loop!” Mustard said enthusiastically, before chuckling. Gran Torino chuckled as well while Mustard opened the doors to the Dojo.

“Time hasn't slowed us down at all.” He murmured. Mustard nodded in response.

“Cup of tea?”

“Sure, I’ll have some.”

Yazo: Hey, wait a minute, where's the death? Without the death, it's not Death Battle! It's just… Um… Battle, I guess?

Carl: This was quite the fight to analyze. Both fighters held their own against each other with relatively similar stats. But Mustard just had what he needed to defeat Gran Torino.

Yazo: While Gran Torino may have been stronger and faster than Mustard himself, it's not like he would've been fighting Mustard in a fistfight. He'd be fighting his Pokemon, which can move at relatively similar speeds to what Gran Torino can pull off. Oh, and Mustard can perceive these battles, so he'd have no trouble with keeping track of him.

Carl: So speed was tied. And so was intelligence and experience. The two were both brilliant tacticians with years of experience in battle, making it pretty difficult to tell if one surpassed the other.

Yazo: Gran Torino had the higher stamina to outlast Mustard’s onslaught of Pokemon. The dude’s whole Quirk revolves around his stamina, basically. Not to mention that Mustard probably hasn't fought against someone who’s strategy basically boils down to: really bouncy ball.

Carl: But this is where Mustard begins to start taking advantage. While Gran Torino could take out the likes of Twice, Magne, and Spinner with little-to-no effort, Mustard’s weakest Pokemon could contend against Leon’s Charizard, even at a disadvantage. And that's not even mentioning that Urshifu is comparable to Legendary Pokemon such as Regice, Groudon, and Eternatus.

Yazo: Gran was also gonna have a bit of a hard time taking Mustard’s Pokemon out, given that their strength directly scaled to their durability. Oh, and Mustard’s Pokemon were a lot more varied, even with Gran’s usual strategy being strange.

Carl: And some of these moves, Gran Torino had no counter, such as Urshifu’s Poison Jab and Mienshao’s Blaze Kick, which could inflict status effects on Gran Torino. He also didn't have a way to counter Intimidate, Light Screen, Stealth Rock, Clanging Scales, basically every stat-lowering move in Mustard’s arsenal.

Yazo: Mustard didn't even need Gigantamax to win, base Urshifu could wipe the floor with Gran Torino. And as a final nail in the coffin? Gran Torino couldn't really exploit any of the Pokemon’s weaknesses. So, yeah, Gran Torino was fucked.

Carl: Gran Torino was certainly smart, fast, and brought a tactic that would throw his foe off guard, but Mustard and his Pokemon were too strong, too durable, equal in speed, and had moves that Gran counter counter.

Yazo: He Mustard all of the strength he could, but he's still got mushroom for improvement!

Carl: The winner is Mustard.
