Description[]

Persona vs Berserk! These two may have an image of being noble men, but behind their charades lie traitors who would sacrifice anything to achieve their goals.

Intro[]

Wiz: Griffith, the leader of the Band of the Falcon and renowned Falcon of Light.

Boomstick: Akechi, member of the Phantom thieves and renowned Prince detective.

WIz: The path to greatness is filled with strife, but it is what you would sacrifice for said greatness that truly makes the difference between a hero and a villain.

Boomstick: And when you’d choose to sacrifice your friends for something that only you’d benefit from, I’d say that’s pretty clearly a dick move. Wiz: I’m Wiz and he’s Boomstick, and together we’ll analyze their weapons, armor and skills to find out who would win…

Boomstick: A Death Battle!

Griffith[]

Wiz: The idea of a world like ours yet overflowing with magic is something we all have thought about. Sometimes the strange is just out of sight, hidden away, but usually the story involves an entirely different reality.

Boomstick: But if you thought the world of Berserk was gonna be fun and happy cuz of magic, then hoo-boy would you be wrong, because the problems usually in these medieval settings aren’t able to just be solved with a wave of your hand and a click of the heels.

Wiz: Poverty was commonplace, and from the depths of the slums lied a child whose ambition would one day conquer the world. His name was Griffith, and after a chance encounter with an old fortune teller, he received the Crimson Beherit and was told of his fate to rule the world.

Boomstick: And after a while, he formed the Band of the Falcon, taking in all sorts of unfortunate souls, but he had to do some… unsavory acts for a nobleman in order to ensure their survival. But hey, at least he was able to meet his bestest friend Guts after a while!

Wiz: In fact, Griffiths life was truly looking to be a good one. His skills in the Band of the Hawk even led him to meet with the king and to an engagement with the princess of the land! But his ambitions had yet to be achieved, so he pressed on, even assassinating his political enemies in a burning tower after faking his own death.

Boomstick: Kinda cruel, but since those guys were literally celebrating his death they probably deserved it. I think. Well, it was about to get worse since Guts wanted to leave the Band of the Hawk to live an actually peaceful life, and Griffith challenged him to a duel to try and force him to stay, thinking that if he couldn’t have him, no one could.

Wiz: This duel would quickly end, however, when Guts broke Griffiths blade in two, leaving the Band of the Falcon. Distraught, Griffith went to bed the princess he had been engaged to, and when the king found out, he took away the Crimson Beherit that he kept with him all his life and began the year long torture of Griffith within the castles dungeons.

Boomstick: He eventually got out thanks to his old team and the help of his fiance, but still, holy shit! When he got out, the most accurate description of him would be a literal skeleton, since his skin was so thin and tight you could clearly see each individual rib of his!

Wiz: And after riding a horse in this state, chasing after a nonexistent castle and dreaming about Casca, a girl he saved who was in love with Guts, his horse bucked him off and he landed next to a lake, from which his Crimson Beherit resurfaced.

Boomstick: Which was apparently the key to bringing demons into the world! The only thing that still needed to happen was a sacrifice of Griffiths' choice. And his choice was to brand every single one of his old comrades to have their souls stolen when they died, killed everyone except for Guts and Casca and then… Jesus fucking christ, like I get he had a shitty life, but holy shit is that fucked up and inexcusable.

Wiz: Now christened as Femto, he sought to conquer the land he once called home, and he had all the power to do so. While originally a being that was unable to enter the mortal realm, he has since gained the ability to walk the land in either the form of Griffith or Femto.

Boomstick: As Griffith he’s a pro when it comes to swordplay, wielding a nice saber that, while small, is also very light and perfect for precise blows to take out the enemy in one hit or parry heavier weapons for an opening. And he’s also somewhat proficient in beating someone's ass without a blade as well!

Wiz: His beauty and charisma are also something to note, as even when first meeting him some have no choice but to kneel before him. This also translates into an impressive skill in leadership and tactics, capable of defeating entire army’s with just one group. He can even perceive the flow of causality, or fate itself!

Boomstick: But as Femto, that’s when things get crazy as he can manipulate gravity to repel attacks and crush people inside of gravity wells, fly through the air with wings, turn intangible, commune with the dead, and even create black holes!

Wiz: Griffith has proved himself time and time again to be a foe that only Guts could hope to match, as his power is so great he’s revered as a king to the demons he unleashed. And through his encounter with Guts, we can safely say he’s stronger than the massive ocean demon who could conjure entire storms worth nearly 700 kilotons of TNT.

Boomstick: He should also be faster than lightning, given a weaker demon could summon it, and even in his weaker Griffith form he could catch cannonballs fired at him without so much as a scratch! But unlike what he’d want you to think, he has his fair share of flaws. Okay, well not really, since there’s only two actual weaknesses that he has and they don’t make fighting him that much easier.

Wiz: The first is that should someone exist beyond the mortal confines of the world, he can’t really do anything about it and even his intangibility will fail against it, and the same goes for anything that is on the same plane as him.

Boomstick: In other words, this bastard may as well be a god, one who will sacrifice anything to fulfill his ambitions.

Akechi[]

Boomstick: Ah, Japan, a magical place where you can buy anything from a vending machine! But unfortunately, strange occurrences had been going on. People were having complete mental shut downs and causing a bunch of accidents. Fortunately, the renowned Prince Detective, Goro Akechi, was on the case!

Wiz: But beneath his humble yet brilliant facade that he showed to the public was a life filled with strife.

Boomstick: A kid cut from the same cloth as me, Akechi was born after his utter bastard of a father left his mother, who would send him away to a bathhouse whenever she had to do some unsavory business with unsavory individuals. That was, until she took her own life from the depression of having her life ruined.

Wiz: Thus, he was passed from relative to relative, none of whom cared for him, until he finally unlocked a power that was truly exceptional: The Wild Card. And with it came his two signature Persona’s, manifestations of his will of rebellion. With them he perfected the facade of a Prince Detective, an honorable seeker of knowledge and justice, while in reality all he wanted was to bring down his father, who had condemned him to a horrible fate.

Boomstick: Because, as it turns out his father was none other than Masayoshi Shido, a corrupt politician who manipulated Akechi into doing his dirty work within the cognitive world, a world where the human cognition defined reality, fabricating crimes that incriminated his political enemies for Akechi to “solve”. And when a group known as the Phantom Thieves began using this other world to change the hearts of corrupt individuals for the better, he publicly began to shame them for their methods.

Wiz: Until he eventually had to join up with them in a sting operation to capture their leader, Akira Kurusu. And within the Palace where he worked with them, he showed off the Persona Robin Hood, along with his affinity for photon blades and ray guns, which shoot lasers.

Boomstick: This guy had plenty of neat tricks, focusing on curse and bless elemental damage and physical skills, while also working with almighty damage that can bypass the special defenses of those hit, and even moves that can literally instantly kill whatever poor bastard they hit! No, if, ands, or buts! Hell, it can even lower all the stats of a foe for a short while with Debilitate!

Wiz: And the operation nearly succeeded when Akechi seemingly killed Akira while he was in an interrogation room, which was publicly announced to be a suicide. Except, this wasn’t the real Akira, but instead a cognition based body double that had replaced him through a series of complicated moves. The point is, Akira survived and went after the distorted heart of Shido, Akechi's father.

Boomstick: Thing is, Akechi didn’t want anyone else to take that bastard down, so he went to the guys Palace himself and confronted the Phantom Thieves, fighting them all with his original Persona, Loki, which is impressive by itself since they can all dodge lasers and survive cosmic flares, and even later beat three different gods of reality! He also shows that he also really likes serrated blades and silenced pistols.

Wiz: Leaving behind the bless moves of its more holy counterpart, Loki instead focuses entirely on dealing massive amounts of damage with curse, gun, physical, and almighty attacks. But the most dangerous ability is that it can cause people to go completely berserk, increasing their attack power but also causing them to attack wildly without focus.

Boomstick: And when things get desperate he can even make himself go berserk, but he’s still smart enough to know how to beat someone's ass with special skills. Unfortunately, both Personas have their weaknesses, as Robin Hood is weak to curse attacks and Loki is weak to bless, and both rely on SP to use their skills. Eventually, he was defeated by the Phantom Thieves, but before they could fully convince him to join their side Shidos cognition of Akechi came out of nowhere and killed him, revealing that Shido knew he was his son all along and planned on killing him once he won the election!

Wiz: Choosing to sacrifice himself so the Phantom Thieves could escape and steal Shidos heart, Akechi died when he sealed a door between them. Or at least, it seemed to be until he revealed himself to be alive after the defeat of Yaldabaoth, the god responsible for Akechi's powers who had attempted to lead the world into stagnation.

Boomstick: But he was the only other person besides Akira who realized that something wasn’t adding up when other people who were supposed to be dead weren’t anymore and it was like the past year had never happened.

Wiz: This was because of a man named Maruki, who had altered reality to try to make everyone’s ideal world become true. Surprisingly, Akechi actually wishes to reject this faux reality, and no longer hiding behind a false persona, joins the Phantom Thieves in taking him down as the Black Mask and disappearing from reality for good.

Boomstick: Or did he? Since someone who looks awfully familiar can be send at the end of the game. But I guess officially, his fate is still unknown.

Wiz: Regardless, Akira will be waiting for one of his closest friends, a friend who had seen the same hell he had, for the duel they had promised each other.

Prelude[]

Wiz: Alright, the combatants are set and we’ve run the data through all possibilities.

Boomstick: It’s time for a DEATH BATTLE!

Prefight[]

The road was long and unpaved, the sun was cruel, and the air was as peaceful as the woods that surrounded the area. Akechi walked this path, remembering the words spoken to him by a strange long nosed individual known as Igor in a place known as the Velvet Room. He had arrived there after Maruki’s defeat, and Igor had explained that he saw goodness within Akechi’s soul, and wished to give him a second chance at life. But first, he must complete his rehabilitation. He was told that he would be sent to another world, different from the one he lived in, to defeat a threat there that sought to conquer it. For this mission he was given full access to both of his Personas to use at will, even in the real world.

From the opposite end of the path approached Griffith, who was following a strange distortion in causality. An unknown error that might end up completely ruining his plans. He had heard of someone in a strange, black mask who had slaughtered several demons, powerful ones too. If he couldn’t persuade them to his side, then he would have to eliminate them.

As they both approached the hill, they saw each other. For Akechi, he saw a dazzling knight with long, luscious white hair and a fair face, his gleaming armor decorated in images of feathers. For Griffith, he saw an odd young man, no more than 17, walking around in an odd gray coat, wearing black pants and gloves. His hair was short and brown, and his face held a calm yet focused expression.

As they approached each other, Akechi’s calm face turned into a warm smile and gave Griffith a small wave, which he returned in kind. As they finally entered speaking distance, Griffith was the one to engage the conversation.

“Not to be rude, but I can’t say I’ve ever seen an outfit like yours before. Are you not from around here, by chance?” Griffith questioned, his sweet voice washing over Akechi. Akechi simply grinned and responded with his own soft voice.

“You could say that. I’m truly unfamiliar with this land, so I’d like some advice on where to go.” Akechi was simple with his words, and based on how decorative the knight's armor was, he would likely know many things about the land. Griffith simply smiled, seeing how causality was warping around the strange fellow. He was no doubt the source of the distortions in it, and he had to find a way to recruit him before he became a problem.

“Well, there isn't much besides farmlands and forests here, but there is the city from which I hail, known as Falconia. It’s a pleasant place, at least, I’d say so.” Akechi considered these words. He could tell there was more to this city that the knight wasn’t telling him, but he needed to be careful. He didn’t want people coming after him, since it would only complicate his mission here.

“That sounds like a wonderful idea, but unfortunately, I’m looking for someone. I’ve heard that they’re very influential, and I have a very important meeting with him.” Griffith stared at Akechi, and he realized that Akechi was likely looking for him. This almost made him consider lobbing his head off then and there, but there was one thing he needed to check.

“Oh? I might be of help, if you're interested in joining my group.” Akechi could see it, the slight movements of his body and face told him that his words had the knight on edge, and he might know why. All he needed to do was to say the right thing to confirm his suspicions.

“Sorry, but I’m a bit too busy. Well, I must get going now, but I’ll see if I can visit this city of yours in the future.” Akechi began to walk away, but as he passed Griffith, he felt the cold steel of a blade press against his neck.

“I’m afraid that won’t be possible, as I can see now that you will be a threat to my dreams.” Griffith stated, as Akechi backed away from the blade. His suspicions were confirmed, as this knight was at least connected to his target, if not the target himself.

“I figured as much… Very well then, I shall defeat you here and now!” Akechi stated, as a strange birdlike mask appeared on his face. With a flourish, he tore it away from himself. In a burst of light, Akechi donned a regal suit with a white coat and red gloves, a crimson cape billowing behind him. In his left hand he held his Photon Saber, keeping it at the ready. His mask had reappeared on his face, and in an instant the two clashed in a duel that would decide the fate of the land.

Fight[]

Their duel was intense, but despite Akechi’s more advanced weaponry, it did little to close the gap in skill between the two as Griffith continued to parry every swing of Akechi’s as if it was child's play. Akechi leaped back to gain some distance, and as Griffith quickly dashed towards him, he pulled out his ray gun and fired two shots towards the Falcon of Light, who stopped in his tracks and covered his head as the beams hit his armor, scorching the areas they hit.

Griffith quickly recovered and charged again, knocking away Akechi’s blade and stabbing at his heart. Only, it was intercepted by some strange, large golden bow. Griffith quickly stepped back to reassess the situation and saw a massive figure with a bow shaped like the wings of a bird. Its chest was broad, the coat covering its body white, and the cape flowing behind it held the same color, except the inside of it was a royal blue. This was the Persona Robin Hood, and Akechi summoned him to turn the tables.

“Robin Hood! Kouga!” With the command, Robin Hood fired an arrow of pure light, which came at Griffith too quickly to do anything other than try to deflect it to the side, but as he did so Akechi rushed at him, using the opening to slash at his armor several times, leaving more scorch marks on it. Griffith attempted to kick Akechi away to gain some distance, but Robin Hood fired another arrow, this one being made of some dark energy, and Griffith was forced to roll to the side to avoid the blow. He quickly recovered, though, and managed to parry another of Akechi's swings before striking out, landing a blow that sent Akechi flying back.

Akechi managed to land on his feet, and summoned Robin Hood and had him shoot an arrow into the sky, which in turn rained down many more arrows towards Griffith, who was forced to continue dodging lest he be skewered. Robin Hood fired another arrow towards him, but Griffith managed to catch it with his hand before crushing it in his grip.

Griffith looked over to the duo as Robin Hood prepared to fire another arrow, this one glowing much brighter than before, and prepared to deflect it, until he felt a sharp pain in his shoulders and knee, as he had forgotten that Akechi was a threat as well and he had unloaded the rest of his bullets into vital points of Griffiths body. Griffith barely brought up his sword in time to block the attack, but as the two collided the blade broke and Akechi’s attack landed, kicking up a cloud of dust. Akechi waited for any sign of life, which he got when several demons in the form of dogs lunged at him from the smoke. Robin Hood was quick to prepare a special light arrow that it shot towards the ground, causing it to erupt in a bright explosion. But this wasn’t all, as Griffith used the distraction to close the distance between him and Akechi, engaging in another duel while dancing around the arrows sent his way by Robin Hood. But he couldn’t do this forever, and eventually another arrow made of a thicker darkness hit his chest and knocked him away and onto his knees. As he laid there, panting, Akechi approached him with Robin Hood by his side, his empty gun pointed straight at Griffith in a show of intimidation.

“Stay down. I’ve won the duel, so I suggest you listen to me.”

Griffith stared up at Akechi, not with hatred, but pure determination, as a strange dark energy surrounded him, creating an orb that shielded his transformation. Akechi watched with curiosity, but realized that this was a problem and had Robin Hood fire another, much brighter arrow at the orb. But as it approached, it was swatted away by the figure that emerged from within. It wore a full body suit that was skin tight and as black as an eclipse, with a cape that was like a bat’s wings. The cowl that covered their head resembled the beak of a hawk, and their gauntlets were like talents. Griffith was no longer here, and in his place was Femto.

Akechi tried to prepare himself, but was caught off guard when Femto grabbed him by the throat and slammed him into the ground, creating a massive crater. Robin Hood attempted to fire another arrow at him one covered in light, but Femto used the Prince Detective to block the shot, though Akechi suffered no damage, and Femto threw him aside as his cape opened into a pair of wings and began to fly into the air, a sudden eclipse forming behind him as demons began to appear from the surrounding woods. As they proceeded to surround them, Akechi began fighting them with his blade and Robin Hood began firing more and more arrows that blew up, which actually thinned their numbers somewhat.

Femtos watched from the air, and raised his hand as gravity bent to his well and Akechi found himself stuck within a powerful gravity well, movement becoming difficult as Demons began tearing into his flesh, which Robin Hood was barely able to fend off. Femtos voiced called from the heavens to Akechi.

“My ambitions… My dreams will not end here today! For the sake of my ideal world, I will sacrifice anything, including you!” The gravity well increased in pressure, bringing Akechi to his knees as Robin Hood was dismissed, but not before he had him use Mahamaon to instantly kill several more demons who were approaching. Femto floated back down towards Akechi, looking down at him with a look that Akechi was all too familiar with. It was the look that had surrounded him all his life, from every adult and family member. A look that haunted him from his birth.

The look of as if he was nothing more than a mistake.

“Damn it… Don’t…” Femto began condensing gravity within his palm, until it became a black hole that slowly grew in size.

“DON’T LOOK AT ME LIKE THAT YOU PIECE OF SHIT!” A new mask formed on the face of Akechi, similar to his more regal red mask, yet much sharper. Femto finally fired the now sizable black hole towards Akechi, who pulled off his mask with maddening fury a moment before the black hole made contact. But in an instant, a massive cut cleaved the black hole in two, revealing Akechi in his true form. Replacing his more noble clothes was a black suit with blue stripes across it, his sleeves, pants, and cape were now all torn to shreds at their ends, and the blade he held was a red as blood, serrated to make killing things with it much more painful for the victim. Akechi no longer cared about being the Crow of the Phantom Thieves. For now, he was the Black Mask. A murderer.

And murder was what he was good at, as he summoned his original persona to his side. The new figure was covered in random black and white stripes and patterns, two massive horns in the place of eyes, and it carried a two handed blade with a black hilt and red blade. This was the persona Loki, and Akechi ordered it to use Riot Gun, the Persona unleashing a hailstorm of bullets that made quick work of the remaining demons. Akechi looked up to the eclipsed sky and pointed his blade at his target, the silent challenge acknowledged by Femto as he flew down towards Akechi.

“If you insist being an obstacle for my goals…!” The two met in a clash, Akechi’s blade and Femto’s gauntlet catching each other as they tried to overpower the opposing force.

“Then I will kill you myself!”

"Bring it on asshole!" Akechi shouted back as Femto planted his feet on the ground, and forced gravity itself to push Akechi back, but respite would not be found as Loki clashed with him using its own blade, the struggle this time much harder. As he began to use the same trick, Akechi moved in to pincer him from the side and Femto was forced to use his wings to launch himself back, summoning more black holes to tear Akechi apart. But these would never reach him, as Loki knocked each of them away with a mighty swing of its blade, and Akechi pulled out his silenced pistol and fired every round into Femto.

Well, more accurately through him, as he phased through reality to let the bullets pass his body, before flying back into the fight and tackling Akechi again, causing him to dismiss his Persona as he dragged him across the ground, choking him out as he did so. But Akechi wouldn’t let this happen without retaliation, as he eventually found his footing and managed to slow their movement, before punching Femto across the face with his right hand, sending him back a bit. Femto stood tall, wiping the dirt from his cheek due to the punch, while Akechi slouched and spat out a bit of blood, not ready to give in anytime soon. Several more clashes ensued, with Femto parrying Akechi's frenzied strikes with his taloned gauntlets, before Akechi summoned Loki once again to engage in another pincer attack, coming this time from opposite sides. Femto held out his hands and felt Gravity begin to hold the back, before he noticed a dark energy form around his feet and he was engulfed in the Eigaon that Akechi had ordered.

Akechi and Loki took a step back as Femto emerged from the attack, now visibly more damaged and panting from the long fight. But Akechi wasn’t looking too good either, as his use of skills had begun to wear him out, and he was also panting from exhaustion.

“Not bad… But this is where it ends! I’ve seen all your tricks, and I’ll win this fight here and now!” Femto shouted as he charged once again, but Akechi had a plan. As Femto closed the distance, he was suddenly surrounded by a wicked aura. And within his mind, all hell broke lose

Femto was subjected to the horrible memories of his past, the people who died due to his actions, the faces of those he betrayed for his dream, and he fell into a psychotic frenzy. He could feel his bloodlust become uncontrollable, and decided to unleash it on the nearest person: Akechi.

Akechi was almost taken off guard as Femto began his frenzied attacks, but held fast as he initiated the next step of his plan as Femto didn’t realize that Akechi had done something to his body. He persisted in his frenzied attacks, moving almost too fast for Akechi to respond to, before he plunged his hand into Akechi’s torso and grabbed his throat with his other. Akechi coughed and gagged on his own blood, but as he lost oxygen, all he could do was smile, as his plan worked just how he wanted it to. Loki appeared once again, and sliced Femto back away from Akechi. Femto tried to lunge at him once again, but fell short as he looked down to see that his leg was now gone. Loki had sliced it off with the blow that knocked him back, and his own insanity caused him to not even realize it. His wings took him into the air, but another command from its master caused Loki to use Riot Gun again, riddling his wings with bullet holes and rendering them useless.

But Femto was far from finished, as he used gravity to keep him floating in the air and summoned a massive black hole, launching the entire thing towards Akechi. Akechi, however, ordered Loki to summon its own massive ball of some strange white energy. Not holy energy. Almighty energy. Loki fired its own sphere towards the oncoming attack, and the two balls of destruction clashed in the air.

But it wouldn’t last long, as the sphere of almighty energy overpowered the black hole and charged ahead, hitting a Femto who was too stunned to move. As the attack landed, he could feel it bypass his supposed invincibility, trying to phase through it did nothing, and Femto blew up along with the Megidolaon. Akechi sighed a breath of relief, before an object fell from the attack before him.

But his worries were unwarranted, as it was simply the head of Femto, eyes wide with shock and disbelief. Once Akechi realized this, Akechi sat down on the ground, laying back as the eclipse ended. His Persona was dismissed, and his clothes reverted back to their normal appearance, aside from the gaping wound in his belly. He could hear the demons close in on him, but as he lost consciousness, he saw a large black figure approach him, and felt the man pick him up and place him on his shoulder, a far away challenge spoken to the demons that surrounded them. Somehow, he felt he would be okay. At least, for now.

Conclusion[]

Boomstick: And so, Griffith faced the same fate as the squirrels that trespass on my lawn: complete annihilation!

Wiz: This match was far from easy to decipher, as both had their own advantages. Such as Griffith having no real weakness for Akechi to exploit, and at least a decade of experience that trumped Akechi’s measly two years of being a Wild Card.

Boomstick: Plus his ability to control gravity was something that Akechi had no experience or counter for, along with his ability to fly and create friggin black holes!

Wiz: But fortunately for Akechi, he didn’t need to worry about such attacks with his own raw stats, as while Griffith should be faster than lightning, Akechi fought on even ground against several people at once who could do the same thing, and avoid lasers at that. Not to mention he could go blow for blow against the Phantom Thieves, who themselves could fight a god capable of merging two separate realties!

Boomstick: Plus he had a somewhat wider range of moves he could do, and with his skills he held the range advantage with ease. While it could be debatable whether or not his bless and curse skills would do more or less damage, it’s more likely he’d just be neutral to them, which isn’t good for him since now he has a lot more things to worry about.

Wiz: And he didn’t even have to go the raw power route either, as Akechi could simply Debilitate him to make the gap in stats much larger, and he could invoke a frenzy within Griffith to lead him into a losing situation. Remember, Griffith may be an expert leader with much more experience, but Akechi was able to realize he was living in a perfect false reality before almost anyone else realized it, and formulate a plan on how to return things to they way they were meant to be.

Boomstick: Not to mention that Griffith wouldn’t be thinking too clearly about any plans if he got induced with insanity. But really, the nail in his coffin was that he was fighting two on one against an entity that could actually hurt him.

Wiz: You see, Shadows, and by extension Personas, come from a place known as the Sea of Souls, a plane of existence that transcends reality, in both time and space, so it’s safe to say Akechi’s Persona’s could bypass Griffiths intangibility, and even without that explanation could still do it with Almighty attacks, which bypass the special defenses of those hit.

Boomstick: In other words, Akechi just had too many skills for Griffith to keep up with. Looks like this Crow left the Falcon to chase his dreams nevermore. Aw wait that’s ravens SHI-

Wiz: The winner is Goro Akechi.

Winner Akechi
