History[]

The history of Geralt of Rivia is rather unknown as the White Wolf himself doesn't remember much of it. Born to a warrior named Kovir and a sorceress named Visenna, Geralt was orphaned at a young age, being forced to live off food scraps and stealing money from villagers, until he was adopted and raised by Vesimir, a Witcher from the School of the Wolf. Having survived the brutal Trial of the Grass, Geralt eventually began to make a living accepting contracts by many villagers who live in areas where monsters are around, but is generally discriminated by the ignorant populace as a mutant.

One fateful day, when he was invited by Calanthe, the Queen of Cintra, to a banquet, a mysterious knight naming himself Duny proposes for Princess Pavetta's hand, but he was discovered to be cursed. Out of fear, Calanthe orders him dead by her knights when Geralt refuses to kill him (as reward for the Law of Surprise since Pavetta's father once saved him from death before). Nearing death by Calanthe's knights, Geralt eventually intervened, saving Duny's life again, with the help of Calanthe's husband, Eist. All three men easily dealt with most of Cintra's soldiers, which resulted in an all-out brawl. Calanthe stops the brawl and attempts to kill Duny herself, but Pavetta stops her by unleashing the Elder Blood within her. With the help of Mousesack, the druid of Cintra, Geralt stops the immense power of the Elder Blood. Calanthe gives in and allows Duny to marry Pavetta. With the former's curse now passed even before the 12th day, Duny begs Geralt for a reward from him. Although Geralt initally refuses, he reluctantly takes the Law of Surprise as reward from Duny. This event bounds him to be destined with Cirilla Fiona Elen Riannon, whom Geralt would take in later as a daughter and a ward.

Throughout Geralt's adventures that even continued in the games, he purposefully finds himself trying to make choices in a world where hatred and discrimination is abundant, no good choices are remembered and evil is often chosen, both lesser and greater. All while being hired to continue paid errands, whether it be from killing monsters or doing menial labor for those who could not.
