Description[]
Pokemon vs Overwatch! Whenever these two ghostly combatants enter the ring, it will be a battle that only can be seen in the shadows! Who will prevail in this battle of ghostly creepers?
Interlude:[]
Wiz: Many Death Battle combatants come in many shapes and sizes, forms, and even abilities. Whether you do it for the art of silent assassination, or do it for a prankster-esque attitude, many combatants love to stalk others in the shadows.
Boomstick: Like Gengar, the Ghost/Poison Shadow Pokémon…
Wiz: …and Reaper, the ghostly assassin of Overwatch!
Boomstick: He's Wiz and I'm Boomstick.
Wiz: And it's our job to analysis their weapons, armor, and skills to find out who would win...a DEATH BATTLE!
Gengar:[]
Boomstick: Ah, the world of Pokémon. A world filled to the brim with cute and cuddly creatures that are in reality some of the most hardcore sons of bitches you'll ever see
Wiz: However, there is one Pokémon in particular that truly shows how twisted and terrifying the Pokémon world can be. Gengar, the Shadow Pokemon.
*A Pokémon Trainer throws out a Pokéball, releasing Gengar. It lets out its signature cry.*
Boomstick: Um Wiz, what's so threatening about this one? I mean, just look at it!
Wiz: Well according to its Pokédex entries, it is capable of morphing itself in the shape of its soon-to-be victim, waiting for the perfect opportunity to strike. Its presence like this is also stated to drop the temperature around you, basically having you fell chills before this Pokémon jumps you. Hell the Pokédex flat out says if you feel it's presence that you should, and I quote, "There is no escape. Give up," and that it was once human itself.
Boomstick: DAMN NINTENDO CALM DOWN, THIS IS A KIDS GAME!
Wiz: Anyway, evolving from a Haunter after trading it to a new trainer, Gengar's stats are overall average for a Ghost Pokémon. It firmly boasts Special Attack and Speed above all else, darting around the battlefield and attacking with sneaky Ghost, Dark, and even Psychic attacks.
Boomstick: His special abilities consist of Cursed Body and Levitate. The former allows Gengar to randomly disable an opponent's move that so happen to faint him, while the latter allows him to avoid any and all Ground Type attacks that he would normally be weak to.
Wiz: At close range, Gengar packs all kinds of different punch attacks, including the swift and ghostly Shadow Punch, the tricky and foul Sucker Punch, and while it while isn't a punch, his tongue is powerful enough to be used for a melee attack that can even paralyze opponents!
Boomstick: Might want to reconsider French kissing this thing if you ever wanted to do that for god knows what reason. Anyway, if Gengar is a pinch when low on health, he can use Hypnosis to put you to sleep, and follow up with a damaging and healing Dream Eater. He can also render your attacks useless with Spite, return the damage done with twice the amount with Payback, and even leave you susceptible to hitting yourself with Confuse Ray!
Wiz: He can also lob ghostly spheres of energy with Shadow Ball, lay curses on you with....Curse, and even prevent your escape with Mean Look. All of this, and this isn't even his final form! With the power of a Gengarite, he can access the power of Mega Evolution to become....Mega Gengar!
Boomstick: With his Mega form comes a boost in his already large Special Attack and Speed, boosting his special traits even more. While it doesn't grant any other special physical traits, he also gains the Shadow Tag ability, which is Mean Look without having to use the damn move.
Wiz: In fact Mega Gengar can travel through DIMENSIONS!
Boomstick: And in Pokken, he was capable of accessing this as a Burst mode, where he could do the devastating Shadow Drop, where he drops the opponent in a powerful sphere of energy that later explodes, dealing massive damage!
Wiz: And going back to regular Gengar, they can fly, turn invisible, can posses people, is said to be from another dimension, and can some what break the fourth wall.
Boomstick: Wait, WHAT!?
Wiz: Yeah, one of his winning animations in Pokken shows him acknowledging the fourth wall's existence, look.
Boomstick: Out of everything we covered on this show, this is the dumbest.
Wiz: Moving on, with his typing, a Gengar is commonly strong against Grass, Ghost, Psychic, and Fairy Type Pokemon, but weak to Ghost, Dark, Psychic, and Ground, but the final is only a weakness if given something like an Iron Ball or the opponent has an ability similar to Mold Breaker.
Boomstick: And, as we mentioned above, Gengar puts a lot of risk in pursuing targets. If you feel the sudden chill we have aforementioned, that is certainly Gengar absorbing the temperature around you. And it doesn't help that Mega Gengar gives his ground type weakness back to him and turns him into a bigger psycho that wants to kill and curse anything that moves.
Wiz: So Pokémon trainers beware, you best hope that you have a Ghost or Dark Type on handy. Otherwise, prepare to have your life taken by this monster.
(Gengar does his victory animation from Pokken)
Reaper:[]
Wiz: The world of Overwatch-
Boomstick: Oh you mean that ripoff of Team Fort-
Wiz: I can AND will punch you in your face if you continue that sentence! Now as I was saying, the world of Overwatch takes place in the future where not only have robots been made, but they also live hand and hand with humanity... After a huge war called the Omnic Crisis happened, which started in Russia, and the birth of Overwatch was made.
Boomstick: Wait so your telling me that a robot war made the Overwatch universes?
Wiz: No no no no, the Omnic Crisis created the organization called Overwatch.
Boomstick: Oh. Yeah that makes much more sense. Anyways, after many years have passed, the Omnic Crisis was over and Overwatch was shifted into a peacetime organization. But before that happened, a certain someone was Overwatch's Strike Commander, and his name was: Gabriel Reyes.
Wiz: Gabriel was then replaced by Jack Morrison, who was would be known as: Soldier 76 in the future, and Gabriel then went to command the newly made Blackwatch.
Boomstick: Blackwatch eventually had to shut down but before that happened, Blackwatch did one last operation which was called the Vince Incident which was SUPPOSED to be a quiet extraction turned unplanned assassination. You had one job guys, and you blew it.
Wiz: And there was also the fact that Gabriel was also jealous Jack getting all the public attention which caused some infighting which resulted in the Overwatch HQ getting blown up along side with Gabriel and Jack, making people presume that they died. And that was the end of Gabriel story.
Boomstick: Or was it? Well technically yes but we'll get to that. Gabriel (and Jack) survived the blast and then he aided in founding Talon before Overwatch went poof and not only became the one of the leaders of Talon, but also became the the most edgiest thing since Shadow the Hedgehog: Reaper!
(Reaper does his Eternal Rest animation)
Wiz: Reaper has his an unlimited amount of his Hellfire Shotguns which can pierce through Reinhardt's armor in game.
Boomstick: Me want!
Wiz: Calm down Boomstick, we have a whole bio to complete here.
Boomstick: Fine. I still want those shotguns after the fight.
Wiz: Your funeral. Anyways, Reaper has quite the amount of abilities to use, like his teleport called the Shadow Step, in which he dissolves into mist and goes to the place that he sees, and The Reaping, which allows him consume the souls of the people he killed.
Boomstick: And his Wraith form, where Reaper becomes a gaseous mist that can't be touched by conventional means. and finally his Ultimate Attack: the Death Blossom. Where he empties his Hellfire Shotguns at incredible speed while spinning. Oh man, I think I need a towel after watching that.
Wiz: Classy Boomstick. But let's not forget about his feats. Like the times where Reaper had fought against an enraged Winston, who is a gorilla who fought against the main leader of Talon: Doomfist who can destroy a building, and Tracer, and almost killed Soldier 76 or back when he survived the Overwatch HQ exploding and when he fought one on one with a giant mech and not only won but he utterly demolished it.
Boomstick: But like all good things, they must come to an end. While Reaper is pretty impressive he does have quite the few weakness like when he failed to off Winston, Tracer, and Soldier 76. And without Mercy's help after the explosion happened he would've died.
Wiz: And let's not forget that he is unable to attack in his Wraith form, his Death Step leaves him open to attacks while he waits to teleport, people can stun him mid-attack when he's using his Death Blossom ultimate and is unable to use Death Step or Wraith form, and that he's a cocky sadist who prefers to toy with his opponents especially when he has the upper hand. But, never the less, if you're Reaper's next target you better prey to god that he fails to find you because if he doesn't, you will die.
(Reaper does his Executioner animation)
Intermission[]
Wiz: Alright, the combatants are set, and we gathered the data, so let's end this debate once and for all.
Boomstick: IT'S TIME FOR A DEATH BATTLE!
DEATH BATTLE!:[]
Pre Fight[]
Location: A well guarded museum
Time: Night
(cue Ambiance: City Street At Night)
The museum was quiet, the only things that can be heard in there was the sounds of footsteps coming from security, making sure no living thing comes in vain hope of getting a quick fortune. Shame they didn't think about those who might not be in realm of the living, but it's price that they'll pay soon enough. Near by, a shadowy figure, who is behind the museum, is plotting to break in.
???: Remember Reaper, the client wants the RED orb, not the blue one.
Reaper: I know Sombra. I just don't understand why we're breaking into this museum for a lousy red rock...
Sombra: Well if you must know, the client wants us to get it to improve humanity's progress but is unable to get it since if word got out that someone from another region it would be disastrous. And if he doesn't pay up, we can just use the Red Orb ourselves.
Reaper: Alright then... Door.
(cue Overwatch Music - Alive (Competitive Theme - Longer Version) Extended)
And like that, the mission starts. Reaper snucked into the museum, making his way to the second floor while shooting any guard that saw him. Everything was going to plan, until one of the security cameras Sombra hacked started to act weird.
Sombra: Que demonios...? (What the hell...?)
Reaper: What's is it Sombra?
Sombra: One of the stupid cameras are acting up. I think someone or something is in there with you.
Reaper: Can you tell who it is?
Sombra: No, I can't see anyon-
Then suddenly, Sombra saw something blurry on camera in corner of her eye. It looked like a fat, short, porcupine looking humanoid.
Sombra: I saw it! It's on the second floor in the Ancient History exhibit where the Red Orb is at.
Reaper: Not for long...
Sombra: Careful Gabriel, they don't look like they're from Overwatch so expect anything.
A few minutes earlier before Reaper broke in
(cue Klonoa - Door to Phantomile (PS1) Music - Joka Theme)
The museum was quiet, so quiet in fact that if something dropped everyone in whole museum could hear it, perfect for someone to scare people for the fun of it. And that someone was a Gengar who so happened to wander his way into the museum for lovely night of scaring people till the sun comes up, but that's not the only thing he's here for. There's something within this museum that can help him become more powerful than he already is, even if it's temporary. Just the thought of it grew Gengar's grin wider and wider. But then Gengar heard something that interrupted his train of thought, it was the sound of gunfire coming from the bottom floor. Gengar darted to the Ancient History exhibit, hoping to find what he's looking or at the very least, hide in the dark and scare the person who's making all the noise as payback for interrupting his fantasy.
Back to Reaper in the present
(cue Theme of Death Ruins (from Shadow the Hedgehog) )
Reaper finally made his way to the History exhibit prepared to shoot whoever is in there. But to his surprise no one WAS in there, but what was there was the Red Orb, there for the taking. And strangely, there was a cold chill coming up from his spine, but it's probably thanks to someone not closing the window after opened it.
Reaper: No one's here.
Sombra: I could've sworn I saw something... And it doesn't help that there is still static on the cameras... Well, at least the Red Orb doesn't look like it's been taken yet. I already turned off the alarms for it so just grab it and go.
Reaper: You got me excited for nothing Sombra...
Reaper shattered the glass container and was about to pick up the Red Orb when it started to float upwards. That's when Gengar made his appearance know to Reaper.
Reaper: Hand over the Orb, unless you want to be a corpse.
Gengar thought about it for two seconds before throwing the Red Orb out the window and into the alley way below.
Reaper: Wrong choice, freak!
Reaper readied his shotguns while Gengar got into a fighting stance.
FIGHT![]
(cue Almost Dead by Powerman 5000 (Dark Theme of Shadow) )
Gengar launched a Shadow Ball at Reaper, and after barely dodging it, Reaper fired his Hellfire Shotguns at the ghost Pokémon. After dodging the bullets, Gengar Sucker Punch'd Reaper in the gut. Unfortunately, Reaper WANTED him to get close to him. After gaining his bearings, he shot Gengar four times and then picked him up and yeeted threw Gengar at a once priceless and beautiful painting. Reaper walked towards the now ruined painting to finish off his foe, only to find no one on the other side of it. Gengar went invisible and left the ruined painting, but Reaper didn't know that.
Reaper(thinking): So, he can teleport as well.
Reaper then turned around, only to see 4'11 tall Shadow Pokémon behind him firing a Dark Pulse at him, causing him to give the wall behind him a brand new hole.
Reaper: Ugh... Well aren't you full of tricks.
Reaper then got up as Gengar floated into the room.
Reaper: Well unfortunately for you...
He then crossed his arms with a shadow substance surrounding him.
Reaper: …So do I!
Reaper then vanished in front of Gengar. Gengar was now extremely confused. Where did he go? What did he do? Can humans do that? W-was he even human to begin with? Before Gengar could think of any answers, he then heard something behind him.
???: From the shadows.
Before he could react to the voice, he was shot six times by Reaper. Gengar, while not at the brink of death (or would it be double death?), was still injured, but he had a plan. Once Reaper got close to the wounded Pokémon, he suddenly felt very sleep for some strange reason. Gengar used Hypnosis.
Reaper: What... What did you-
Before Reaper could finish his sentence he fell asleep, much to the fat purple porcupine looking Pokémon's delight. Gengar then almost immediately used Dream Eater to get his health back up. After feasting on his opponent's dream, he then had a devilish thought come to him. A devilish thought that he couldn't resist to not do. And with a evil grin, Gengar used Nightmare. Gengar watched with sadistic glee as Reaper tossed and turned in his sleep, experiencing mental and physical pain. And then, Reaper woke up, and boy was he PISSED! He immediately went into his Wraith Form to get some distance from the ghost type, and once he got out of it he begun to shot at Gengar again. That's when Gengar fired another Dark Pulse at the Talon member, creating a new hole that lead outside of the Museum. Thinking that his opponent fell to the ally way below, Gengar turned around to continue his search. But little did he know that Reaper was hanging on outside. Reaper then painfully climbed his way back into the building, much to Gengar's surprise.
Reaper: Sorry freak, I don't go down that easily.
Gengar was getting tired of this and fired a Night Shade from his eyes, dealing massive damage to the experienced solider.
Reaper: That's ENOUGH!
Reaper pulled out his shotguns.
Reaper: DIE, DIE, DIE!
He was using his Ultimate: Death Blossom, and Gengar wasn't enjoying himself anymore to say the least. After Reaper finished his ultimate, he grabbed Gengar and threw him into the hole he made with his first Dark Pulse. Reaper checked to see if his opponent was still there, but he wasn't because the badly injured Gengar went invisible and fled. As much as Gengar would love to continue "playing" with his foe, he still needed to find that stone he came here for.
Reaper: You REALLY think you can hide forever? You'll come out... And when you do, you'll DIE!
Gengar didn't care for his threats, as he was busy trying to find that stone. Now where is that stupid- AH! There it is! Gengar found it, he found what he was looking for! The Gengarite! Hm? What's that noise?
Reaper: Come out, come out wherever you are... It'll only hurt a lot.
Gengar's Cheshire Cat-like smile grew. He knew what to do, so he grabbed the Mega Stone and appeared before the former Overwatch member.
Reaper: So, you've finally stopped hiding and accepted your death.
Gengar did nothing except hold the Mega Stone close to his chest. As he did that, a weird energy that was foreign to Reaper begun to enveloping the ghost typed Pokémon.
Reaper: What the hell are you doing?
Finally, the energy shattered to reveal: Mega Gengar!
(cue Plok (SNES) Boss Theme - Ultra HD Remastered!)
Reaper: Big deal! Even with your new look you're not getting out of here alive.
Mega Gengar's only response was him growing his smile wider and wider. Reaper fired at him again, but this time Gengar raised his arms in front of his face and was blocking all of Reaper's shots.
Reaper: What the hel-
Before Reaper could finish his sentence, he got hit by a Shadow Ball which sent him into another wall, almost breaking it. Reaper then begin to shoot at the Mega Evolved Pokémon and while his hits did land, his opponent wasn't even flinching all that much. Mega Gengar then decided to have his foe know how painful all of his attacks were to him and used Payback. The pain Reaper felt was terrible, it felt like he was getting shot at from every angle. But once Payback stopped, he knew he had to finish this. He pulled out two new shotguns and prepared to use his Death Blossom again. Mega Gengar knew what he was going to do that attack again and used Sucker Punch again to prevent him from doing the Death Blossom, staggering his foe. That's when Mega Gengar got an evil idea. First, he used Hypnosis again, putting Reaper asleep.
Reaper: No... Not again...
He then used Curse, making him extremely weakened. Next, he used Dream Eater to heal him back to full health. And finally, used Nightmare, causing Reaper to feel the effects of both Curse and Nightmare. Mega Gengar did nothing but watch as the life slowly drained from him. Even if he did wake up now, it would be the last time he does. When Reaper finally woke up, he tried to use his Shadow Step to get some distance way from him. But much to his surprise, he couldn't teleport away from him, and it was all thanks to Mega Gengar's ability: Shadow Tag.
Reaper: What the hell are you...
Mega Gengar got closer to the dying soldier.
Mega Gengar: GENGAR!
Mega Gengar then used his Burst Move: Shadow Drop. He produced a big ball of ghost energy and threw it down on to his foe, paralyzing him. He then surrounded him with more ghost energy while taking him down into the dark ghostly void below him, where Reaper fell into mouth of a giant Mega Gengar. Gengar then trapped him in a ball with his face on it before it blew up, killing Gabriel. Mega Gengar then appeared back in the now utterly ruined museum by using a portal he made, looking for any sort of his opponent's remains. All he could find was some ripped up black fabric but nothing that could be considered a corpse. Gengar laughed at his victory while he transformed back to his normal form, and then Gengar noticed something: YOU. He then got really close to the fourth wall and tries to spook you. After that he then giggled to himself and flew away, with Mega Stone still in hand, out through the hole that lead outside of the museum to continue his night of spooks and laughs.
KO![]
Talon sets up a funeral for their former ally after finding out what happened at the museum.
Gengar is telling other ghost Pokémon about his battle at the museum
Conclusion[]
Boomstick: YES! THE SHOTGUNS ARE MINE!
Wiz: This was unfortunately an up hill battle for Reaper, because even without his Mega form, Gengar had almost every category in his favor.
Boomstick: But before we go over WHY Gengar won, let's talk about the elephant that in the room that everyone is probably wondering about: Could Reaper even HARM Gengar?
Wiz: While one could argue that Reaper's bullet's would count as Fire or Steel type moves, we're pretty sure that they wouldn't as that would be applying two different types of universe logic without much evidence backing it up. But for argument sake and for the sake of a battle, let's say they can harm him.
Boomstick: While Reaper did destroy a giant mech and fought on par with Winston, that's NOTHING compared to who Gengar can fight against. Like Tyranitar, a Pokémon who can make mountains crumble with ONE of it's hands. Or Machamp, a Pokémon who can lift a mountain with only ONE hand.
Wiz: Reaper is capable of keeping up with Tracer but Gengar can keep up with Rapidash, who can race against bullet trains.
Boomstick: Gengar also had way more to work with than Reaper, who only uses shotguns as a form of attack. Hell, the only thing Gengar DOESN'T get is Experience and that's only because Gabriel was a solider while Gengar was a wild Pokémon. And don't get us started on Mega Gengar.
Wiz: While Reaper is an excellent fighter, he just had almost everything against him.
Boomstick: I guess you can say that Reaper had a "ghost" of a chance at winning this fight. Well i'm off to get his shotguns, bye!
Wiz: Ugh, the winner is Gengar.
Gengar (Win)
- +/+++ Attack
- +/+++ Speed
- +/+++ Durability
- +++ Had more attacks at his disposal
- +++ Better way of getting health back
- +++ Had more ways of kill Reaper
- +++ Mega Gengar was overkill
- =/+++ Most likely couldn't have been harmed by Reaper's guns but for argument sake he could for this fight
- - Experience
Reaper (Lost)
- + Experience
- =/--- Most likely wouldn't been able to harm Gengar but for argument sake he was able to for this fight
- --- Everything else
Next time...[]
Two inter-galactic conquerors will fight to see who is better.
Magolor vs Shao Kahn
Trivia[]
- Both combatants are ghostly murderers with a sense of humor.
- The fight's animation would use 3D models
- The fight's soundtrack would be "Death's Playdate" as a reference to Reaper's moves, how Gengars are usually tricksters by nature and the episode "Tower of Terror", and how both of them are know to be killers. The cover would have a Gengar wearing Reaper's outfit minus the skull mask.
- I wanted to do a dream/nightmare sequence when Reaper was put to sleep the first time, but didn't since I couldn't find a way to do that and stay true to his character.
- After researching for Reaper, I kinda grew to like him more.
