Description[]
Gengar vs Hsien-Ko is a what-if? episode of Death Battle featuring Gengar form the Video Game series Pokémon and Hsien-Ko form the Video Game series DarkStalkers. They are also ghosts from video games! so sit back and watch a fight of ghosts!
Intro[]
Rohan: Ghosts. They have been portrayed in many ways, whether they look humanoid, scary or well... Just a blob.
Jeltz0 z: These two examples have been portrayed in some of my favorite games too. For example, Gengar! The original ghost of Pokemon.
Rohan: And Hsien-Ko from Darkstalkers. He's Jeltz0 z and I'm Rohan. It's time to analyse our combatants armor, weapons and skills to see who would win, in a battle of Nintendo vs Capcom!
Gengar[]
Jeltz0 z: Gengar. The OG Ghost type. In the games Pokemon Red and Blue, he was introduced, along with 150 other pokemon. (If you count Mew...) It was also a ghost if you didn't have friends. I'll let Rohan explain.
Rohan: If you didn't know already, Pokemon have to undergo a process called evolution. Certain pokemon level up, but some need special methods. Like trading to a friend. Considering Gengar is the final pokemon of its evolution line, and it needs a trade evolution. In the games, you needed local communication and a linking cord to trade, and of course a friend who was willing to trade.
Jeltz0 z: I don’t know how people could quote on quote “catch ‘em all” this way, at least not without it being kinda hard. Anyways this Gengar blob thing used to be human, if you can believe it. They would attack people just so they could have a friend. You know, I’m starting to feel bad for this little dude.
Rohan: To each their own, as this “little dude” feeds on people’s fear. While hiding in the shadows, he attacks people who are lost and afraid. His shadows can mimic victims, causing paranoid thoughts, which he then feeds on. Many old tales have been told that Gengar also enters kids bedrooms if they are naughty.
Jeltz0 z: Nothing can convince me this little dude is that violent.
Rohan: Oh, I could go on.
Jeltz0 z: You seem like you want to.
Rohan: Gengar also waits until its victims have their guard down, merging its own shadow with theirs. They enjoy tormenting people. This ghost is basically a devil, if you will.
Jeltz0 z: The mean nature of Gengar isn’t always there. It really just depends if they have a friend or guardian really. That’ll make them a bit friendlier.
Rohan: But that’s only a few exceptions.
Jeltz0 z: Anyways, let's start with some of Gengar most known abilities. Shadow Ball is a ball projectile imbued with darkness. It's known as Gengars most well known move.
Rohan: He uses a lot of shadow related moves. An example would be Curse, where he damages himself to put a curse on the opponent, which continuously damages them.
Jeltz0 z: Another notable move would be Hypnosis, where he puts the opponent to sleep. It can be combined with dream eater which drains the opponents dreams while they're asleep, healing Gengar. Hell, he has about 70 moves that all have a unique quirk. This alone makes him extremely versatile and gimmicky.
Rohan: You could say that he has control over elements too, with notable moves like thunderbolt, fire punch, icy wind, and being a half poison type, he has a lot of poison based moves.
Jeltz0 z: Something else interesting is Destiny bond. It’s a move where if Gengar is killed, the Destiny bond will take the killer with them. Not the most practical, but you gotta do what you gotta do. Anyways, sure, Gengar has some cool tricks, and some cool elemental powers, but he also has some full explosive capability.
Rohan: Gengar Possesses some of the highest damaging moves known in Pokémon, such as Hyper beam. So powerful that anyone who uses it has to rest for a second after using it. Another one is Giga impact, proving that Gengar possesses physical strength too.
Jeltz0 z: But he becomes even better after his mega evolution.
Jeltz0 z: This dude’s kinda neat. While he doesn’t get much new, it acts as a power boost in a way.
Rohan: That’s true. And we will not be including Gigantamax Gengar, because that’s way too much to get into, and he becomes a towering building sized monster at that point. We also won’t include the Tera moves from Paldea.
Jeltz0 z: As for Gengar’s feats, there aren’t really any whatsoever as there isn’t really a specific Gengar in Pokemon. However, they have been shown to be capable of lifting boulders that weigh an upwards of 6 metric tons.
Rohan: Gengar is also shown to be superior to other Generation 1’s such as Dragonair, who can destroy whole cities. While the scaling may not be incredibly accurate, it’s a general idea.
Jeltz0 z: The little dude is said to be below average in intelligence most of the time. He can solve puzzles, understand commands, not much. But when he’s in battle, he’s very intelligent, being able to go toe to toe with very intelligent Pokemon like Alakazam, who has an IQ of 5000, and Machamp, who has mastered every martial art.
Rohan: Along with his basic lack of intelligence, he’s also weak to other ghost attacks, attacks from the dark and psychic attacks. He also needs a key stone to access his mega evolution, and a mega ring. Not only that, but it’s never a permanent transformation. After every battle, he has to go back to normal.
Jeltz0 z: Yes, while that’s true, Gengar is in every Pokemon Fan’s hearts for being the ominous, cute blob of a ghost that is Pokémon’s first Ghost type.
“Should you feel yourself attacked by a sudden chill, it is evidence of an approaching Gengar. There is no escaping it. Give up.”
Hsien-Ko[]
Jeltz0 z: Hsien-Ko and Mei-Ling were Twins, born in a quaint village of Senjetsushis. These girls were set to become senjetsushis too. They were great people in the city and people loved them. While the two were different, they still were close as can be.
Rohan: That was until the Darkstalkers attacked. And because of this, their mother gave life to the twins to save them, but as a result, her soul was trapped in the darkness.
Jeltz0 z: And to save her soul, Hsien-Ko had to become a Jiang-Shi, or some sort of Zombie, Vampire, Ghost, whatever you will…
Rohan: This made them reincarnate into a different family. And on their 16th birthday, they gained powers given from their mom, and were transported into the world of Makai.
