Description[]
Marvel vs. Steven Universe. The battle between two alien fusions-one who fights for love, one who fights to kill.
Introduction[]
Wiz: Whether it's to reach new heights of power or to achieve a sense of belonging with somebody, fusion is something to behold.
Boomstick: Garnet, the fusion of the gems Ruby and Sapphire from Steven Universe.
Wiz: And Carnage, the fusion of Cletus Kasady and a Klyntar from Marvel.
Boomstick: He's Wiz and I'm Boomstick.
Wiz: And it's our job to analyze their weapons, armor and skills to find out who would win a Death Battle.
Garnet[]
Wiz: They are the Crystal Gems. They'll always save the day.
Boomstick: And if you think they can't they'll always find a way! Ah, dammit, stop baiting me into singing catchy openings!
Wiz: Ha-ha, two-nil. Anyway, the Crystal Gems were a collection of rebellious Gems, space faring aliens made of hard-light who take the form of women.
Boomstick: Like any good rebellion, they had a worthy cause to rebel against. Namely, the fact that the rest of their race didn't see the beauty and freedom the planet Earth offered to them, only being interested in harvesting it for its resources. Now that sounds familiar to another race...
Wiz: Desperate to be rid of the rebellion, one of the leading monarchs Blue Diamond sent for a Sapphire, part of a high-cut class of gem famous for being able to see into the future.
Boomstick: This particular Sapphire was accompanied by a trio of Ruby warriors, including their member...Ruby.
- Ruby and Sapphire
- Ruby
- Height: 3’7
- Hot blooded and rash
- Can summon a gauntlet
- Sapphire
- Height: 3’9
- Calm and collected
- Future Vision
- Cryokinesis
- Super speed
- Ruby
Wiz: On the day Sapphire arrived to deliver her vision of the future to Blue Diamond, she foresaw that on this day, the rebellion's members, currently only numbered at two, would be captured following their take down of a handful of Homeworld gems, including herself.
Boomstick: But with a surge of strange emotion, Ruby defined this vision and tackled Sapphire out of the way. As they twirled through the air, a light enveloped them and in their place stood a new being.
Wiz: This was the technique known as fusion and was usually only done between gems of the same kind, the exact reason why three Rubies were assigned to. However, the fusion between two different kind of Gems is generally considered a taboo by Gem society.
Boomstick: But for Ruby and Sapphire it offered them a way to express their feelings for each other.
Wiz: And so Ruby and Sapphire's love became physical, in the form of Garnet.
- Garnet
- Race: Fusion Gem
- Age: 5000+ years
- Height: 7’3
- Non-binary sex (female)
- Fusion of Ruby and Sapphire
- De-facto leader of the Crystal Gems
- Good at dancing and arcade gaming
Boomstick: Now with something to fight for, the right to combine into whoever and whatever they wanted, Garnet joined the Crystal Gems to free Earth from Homeworld's reach, under the leadership of Rose Quartz.
Wiz: Who she even ended up succeeding as the de-facto leader of the Crystal Gems on the day Rose Quartz gave up her physical form to give birth to her son, Steven. After the war against Homeworld had more-or-less concluded of course.
Boomstick: But the job of the Crystal Gems wasn't finished just yet, because the aftermath of the war had left some of their fellow rebels a little on the monstrous side.
Wiz: And so the Crystal Gems were forced to battle their corrupted friends in order to protect both them and others and Garnet was the one always on the front lines.
- Powers and Abilities
- Superhuman attributes
- Shapeshifting
- High pain resistance
- Heightened scenes
- Electrokinesis
- Future Vision
- Gauntlets
- Extremely durable
- Summoned from Gemstones
- Can be fired like a rocket
- Can be increased in size
- Spiked knuckle upgrade
Boomstick: Because out of all the Crystal Gems, she's the one with the most physical might, made all the more potent by her signature gauntlets, summoned from her hand-located gemstones.
Popup: Garnet’s gemstones can withstand 950 tons per square millimeter.
Wiz: Coming with a variety of uses, Garnet's gauntlets can be increased in size and mass, enhanced with spiked knuckledusters or even fired off her hands like missiles! She also possesses several different abilities, such as a sense for structural strengths, shapeshifting into any form she can imagine and can generate electricity potent enough to charge the engine of a truck.
Boomstick: But thanks to Sapphire, Garnet also has access to the Future Vision.
Wiz: Although Garnet sees multiple futures rather than the single one before her, she is well versed enough with the Future Vision enough to know which future to work towards.
Popup: Garnet has said that her glasses are needed to focus her Future Vision. Also, they’re prescription. Although this was done in a crossover, it was still likely canon as the show she crossed over with, OK KO, is now for canon crossovers with other TV shows.
Boomstick: If anyone ever made an inspirational poster, that's it's tagline right there.
Wiz: Speaking of inspiring, nearly all of Garnet's feats can be summed up as having this affect. She's defeated giant monsters with often a single blow, swam through lava, led the Crystal Gems...
- Feats
- Escaped from Blue Diamond’s court
- Can swim in lava
- Deflected a lightning bolt with her wrist
- Punched a shark
- Played an Arcade Game for 24 hours straight
- Struck Amethyst with 2737 tons of force
- Defeated Centipeedle Mother, Jasper and Peridot
Boomstick: And even played an arcade game for 24 hours. Now that's a pro-player. An equally awesome feat of hers was striking Amethyst into the ground so hard that the sand turned to glass. According to Antoniofer, this attack took 3700+ tons of force to pull off.
Wiz: That came from the VS wiki by the way, which also gave us a Pearl speed feat of 33% the speed of light. Since Garnet is often regarded as being the most powerful of the Crystal Gems, at least for the most part, then she can likely reach the same speeds.
Boomstick: It's about the same level of speed of when she blocked a lightning bolt from the sky. Also, she scales to Steven Universe who was able to lift a giant Gem Injector.
Wiz: According to Therefir, Steven would have been lifting 275,000 tons.
Boomstick: And Garnet should be also capable of this, considering both she and Steven fought the Gem Spinel.
Wiz: Garnet certainly is a powerful Gem, but like all Gems her physical form can only take so much damage before it dissipates. Also, Fusion is based on a emotional balance between all involved, so if Ruby and Sapphire start to fall out on anything, their fusion could end up coming undone.
Boomstick: But Garnet has shown that she is willing to stare danger in the face and fight for both the love that formed her and the planet she calls home.
Carnage[]
Wiz: During Spider-Man's career as a hero, he's attained a large number of foes, from the Green Goblin to the likes of Kangaroo.
Boomstick: And few can reach the same levels of infamy and power as the Spot.
Wiz: Well, expect perhaps one; the ultimate antithesis of Spider-Man himself.
Boomstick: J, Jonah Jameson.
Wiz: Well, close. The person I'm thinking about is part of the same profession as Spider-Man's alter-ego; Eddie Brock, who would join with an alien parasite known as a symbiote to become Venom. But little did Eddie know that his symbiote carried a secret...
- Klyntar Alien Species
- Spawned from Venom
- Vulnerable to extreme heat
- Bonded to Cletus’ blood
- List of hosts
- Cletus Kasady
- John Jameson
- Ben Reilly
- Silver Surfer
- Peter Parker
- Norman Osborn
Boomstick: It was pregnant, eventually oozing out the spawn after he and the symbiote reunited after being separated for a while. Ah, the miracle of birth.
Wiz: But what wasn't a miracle, but a terrible turn of events, this Offshoot Symbiote, as it can be called, ended up bonding to the worst possible person.
Boomstick: The serial killer Cletus Kassady.
- Cletus Kassady
- Age: N/A
- Height: 6’1
- Sociopath and murderer
- Convicted for 11 murders
- Enemy of Spiderman and Venom
- Covered in a costume made of his blood
Wiz: Convicted for over 11 murders, or at least the ones they found out about, Cletus was sentenced to a large number of life sentences in prison when he got Eddie Brock as a cellmate.
Boomstick: This was at the time the Venom Symbiote came back to Brock and the time it left behind it's baby.
Wiz: Entering Cletus' body via a cut in his hand, the Offshoot Symbiote ended up bonding to his bloodstream, construct for the serial killer a suit made of his own blood.
Boomstick: Ew, that's disgusting! But Cletus didn't seem to mind at all, because it allowed him to get up to what he loved the most, killing, killing and killing some more.
Wiz: Under the fusion's new moniker, Carnage.
Boomstick: Thanks to the symbiote, Carnage has a wide array of powers to use for his killing sprees.
- Powers and Abilities
- Superhuman attributes
- Camouflage
- 360-degree perception
- Possession
- Regeneration
- Shapeshifting
- Snares
- Blades
- Projectiles
- Tendrils
- Wings
- Webbing
Wiz: Kind of like Venom's own capabilities, but on a far more increased scale, considering that younger Symbiotes are stronger than their predecessors.
Boomstick: Simply put, Carnage has way more speed and strength than Venom, and makes way more usage of his shapeshifting abilities than he does. Like how he mimics Spider-Man's web swinging ability by creating tendrils to stick to buildings.
Wiz: Carnage is capable of creating blades and tendrils from his own body, perfect for stabbing and dicing anything that cuts too close to him. Even if they aren't, he can always hurl these organically generated blades at them, which will break down on the chance they will miss.
Boomstick: And chances are pretty low of this happening away, since Carnage possesses 180 degree field of vision, meaning he can see whatever is happening around him.
Popup: This 360 degree vision appears to be Carnage’s answer to the Spider-Sense, although he still lacks its early-warning feature.
Wiz: In a twisted reflection of how a Symbiote is able to possess other beings, Carnage can use this effect to corrupt and torture others for his own sick amusement. Finally, he possesses an incredibly fast healing factor, allowing him to regenerate just as fast as he is damaged.
Boomstick: Needless to say, Carnage is a pretty messed up dude and the whole of the Marvel universe knows this, having battled against the Avengers, Doctor Doom, Iron Man, Deadpool and both Spider-Man and Venom at the same time.
- Feats
- Capable of overpowering Venom
- Survived a blast from Doctor Doom
- Shrugged off missiles
- Survived in space after an attack from Sentry
- Tendrils traveled 2 miles
- Smothered and survived a gene bomb
- Defeated Spider Man, Venom and Deadpool
Wiz: As it has been said on Venom VS Bane, Venom was strong enough to lift a 200 ton Ferris Wheel and Carnage himself is easily capable of turning over a 50 ton tank.
Boomstick: He's also very fast, like most serial killers, able to keep pace with Spider-Man. According to VS wikier Huesito88, Spider-Man was able to react at Mach 7500+ to break a flying piece of building.
Popup: Although the time Spider-Man took to react was mentioned within his own head, and thus could be viewed as an exaggeration as on his part, another calculation found that Silk, who Spider-Man scales to, reacted at Mach 9000, showing that the feat is consistent with Spider-Man’s demonstrated speed.
Wiz: Carnage may be a kill first-and-throughout, but he's also capable of thinking creatively when he wants to.
Boomstick: Like the time he had his girlfriend Shriek drive everyone in New York into a rage fueled riot, or when he got the idea to spread his tendrils all over an entire city. It's a good thing Carnage has some weaknesses to exploit, otherwise everyone in the Marvel Universe would be scraps by now. Except for those with healing factors, but you know what I mean.
Wiz: Like all Symbiotes, Carnage is extremely vulnerable to heat and sound, although he was able to trade the sound-weakness for a weakness to dark magic.
Boomstick: But he still has the weakness to heat, which someone with the right equipment can take advantage of.
Wiz: But whenever the unholy combination of the Offshoot Symbiote and Cletus Kassady rears its ugly head, expect nothing but maximum carnage.
Interlude[]
Wiz: Alright, the combatants are set, time to end this debate once and for all.
Boomstick: It's time for a Death Battle!
The Battle[]
Garnet marched through the town.
Garnet: If my Future Vision is correct, then the Gem Mutant should appear around her…at least, I think it’s a Gem Monster…
As Garnet walked past an arcade, she suddenly heard the sounds of screaming, pushing, tearing and laughing. She ran around to the front of the arcade, finding a scene of blood and guts decorated the walls and floor. Garnet gasped in horror and a pair of white eyes stared out at her, belonging to the being crouching inside the arcade.
Carnage: A peeping tom!
Carnage extended his claws and lunged at Garnet, who summoned her gauntlets and grimaced in preparation.
FIGHT!
Carnage turned himself into a snake-like shape and squirmed around the punch Garnet threw at him before engulfing the Gem around her head, intent on possessing her. But to his shock, he found he couldn’t.
Carnage: Ew, you taste all gritty!
Garnet grabbed a hold of Carnage and ripped him off her face, hurling him away. Carnage reformed back into his humanoid form and cackled.
Carnage: Looks like we’re doing this the hard way!
Carnage lunged forward and slashed with his claws in an x-shape, sending Garnet skidding back several steps when she blocked the attack. Carnage landed next to her and spun around, slicing with his claws in a spin attack before lashing out with a roundhouse kick sharpened with a spike. Garnet blocked the first series of attacks before using her Future Vision to evade the kick. As Carnage looked up in surprise, Garnet delivered a powerful downwards punch to the back of his head, before swinging her other hand upwards in an uppercut, obliterating Carnage’s head and sending him flying back and smashing into the lettering of the arcade. However, Carnage’s head instantly regenerated and he cackled wildly as he pulled himself out of the twisted metal words. Carnage: Not yet sweetheart!
Garnet stepped back in surprise and Carnage lunged at her again, but braced herself; her fist connected with Carnage’s blade stab, and both opponents unleashed a barrage of blows at each other, their attacks connecting with each other, before Garnet pulled back, enlarged her gauntlet and swung a particularly powerful punch at Carnage, who turned into a slithering mass and slid behind Garnet as she swung her punch. With her back exposed, Carnage unleashed a barrage of slashes, ending with knocking Garnet back. Garnet rolled across the ground, and got back to her feet in time to block an overhead attack from Carnage. Carnage leaped back from his failed attack and slashed several more times at Garnet, who countered by punching away the attacks, before responding with her own, which Carnage blocked by bringing up a shield made out of the Symbiote, right before ejecting a series of spikes at Garnet, who leaped back to avoid being skewered. However, Garnet used her Future Vision to anticipate Carnage lowering the shield, giving her an opening to attack; her fist shot forward and smashed straight through Carnage’s head. But as soon as she did, the parts flew back together as Carnage’s head reformed; his jaw bit down on Garnet’s fist, drew her forward and kicked her in the middle, sending her skidding backwards across the hard concrete, smashing through an entire building before finally coming to a stop by colliding with a stone wall. Garnet climbed back to her feet and snarled. Carnage grinned and fired off darts from the Symbiote at Garnet, who leaped to the side to avoid them. She thrust off her arms and fired off her gauntlets like rockets at Carnage. Seeing the incoming danger, Carnage scurried up a wall and leaped over the projectiles as they blew apart the arcade behind him.
Carnage flew through the air towards Garnet, sprouting wings to increase the distance he traveled. He landed, cracking the ground around him and lunged at the Crystal Gem, swinging a cleaver made from the Symbiote at Garnet; she brought up her arm to block the attack, before unleashing a barrage of blows that blew Carnage’s body apart, only for it to regenerate once again. Carnage unleashed a barrage of tentacles from his body, each one striking Garnet as she attempted to shield herself. She gritted her teeth against the pain and drew back her arms and slammed her gauntlets together, creating a shockwave that blew Carnage back.
As Garnet panted, she looked around for Carnage, but found that he had vanished. Quickly, she accessed her Future Vision. Seeing an outcome, she whipped around and fired off one of her gauntlets; the resulting explosion lighting up the area and Carnage flew forward with a wail, propelled by the explosion. As her target came closer, Garnet drew her fist down before lashing upwards with an exceptionally powerful punch, catching Carnage in his chest and blowing pieces of the human away.
The form of Cletus collapsed onto the ground as Garnet watched on, her eyes widening as she stepped back in horror.
Garnet: What…this is wrong…
From all over the place from which it had been scattered, the Symbiote returned to Cletus and regrew around him. Carnage was reborn.
Cletus: What’s wrong; scared?
He grinned.
Carnage: You should be!
From his body he unleashed a cascade of tendrils that surged over Garnet, who was shimmering with the horror of the fusion between the Symbiote and Cletus, before she diffused and Ruby and Sapphire appeared, both falling to the ground with a thud. Carnage’s eyes widened, before he grinned.
Carnage: Two for the price of one!
With that, he unleashed his tendrils which ensnared Ruby and Sapphire as they cried out. However, Carnage found himself with a problem; he couldn’t possess them. Suddenly, the tendrils ensnaring Ruby burst into flames whilst the ones around Sapphire froze and shattered. Carnage let out a shriek of shock and retracted his tendrils, freeing Ruby and Sapphire.
Sapphire: Come on!
She seized a hold of Ruby’s hand and ran away with her in tow a good distance from Carnage. At a safe range, Sapphire and Ruby began their fusion dance. Carnage let out a roar of anger and sent his tendrils straight at the two, only for the dance to finish and Garnet to reform with a yell. Summoning her gauntlets, with the spiked knuckles now equipped on them, she started striking away at the tendrils as she charged at Carnage. As she neared him, Carnage attempted to leap away, yet Garnet’s Future Vision enabled her to see it coming and grabbed Carnage’s leg before he could get too far away.
Garnet: Not so fast!
Garnet slammed Carnage into the ground before increasing the size of one of her gauntlets as Carnage swallowed in terror.
Garnet: Bye-bye.
With that, she swung the massive gauntlet right onto Carnage, who screamed as the attack slammed into him, its power output essentially vaporized him as a massive shockwave ripped through the town.
Garnet dispelled her gauntlets, letting the dust that was once Carnage blow away, and breathed out in relief.
Outcome[]
Boomstick: Damn, Carnage just got slammed!
Wiz: In terms of durability, both Garnet and Carnage were roughly equal, although for different reasons; Carnage's healing factor could let him heal from most forms of damage whilst Garnet had a hard physical form that could take a lot of punishment, with even her gemstones being protected by their gauntlets. Unfortunately for Carnage, Garnet actually took nearly everything else.
Boomstick: Carnage scales to Venom, who lifted a 200 ton Ferris Wheel, but Garnet is comparable to Steven, who could lift that giant Gem Injector at 275 thousand tons.
Wiz: Garnet also possessed the edge in speed through further scaling to Pearl, who is 33% the speed of light, or Mach 300,000.
Boomstick: Whilst Carnage is only between Mach 7000 or Mach 9000. Either way, much slower than Garnet. But we all know the real question you lot want answered; how was Garnet going to kill Carnage, who could regenerate from little more than scraps.
Wiz: The answer to this lies in a pretty simply place; Garnet's strength. Recall how she was able to hit Amethyst with enough force to turn sand into glass. That would have taken a force of 3700 tons. Converted to degree Celsius units, then this attack would equal 8 billion degrees Celsius and human blood, which is what the Carnage Symbiote is made off burns up at only 980 degrees.
Popup: The Carnage Symbiote has been damaged before by more mundane sources of heat, such as being simply lit on fire from gasoline. Although it has grown immune to a degree where it can survive atmospheric re-entry, it is only at a temperature of 1600+ degrees Celsius, much less than what Garnet can produce.
Boomstick: So with that much force behind those punches of hers, Garnet would be capable of finishing off Carnage.
Wiz: Exactly, and the fact that Garnet's nature as a body of hard light meant she could get close enough to Carnage to do so without the fear of being corrupted by him, since Symbiotes feed off adrenaline hormones from organic prey, something with a gem like Garnet wouldn't be actually producing.
Popup: Even though Ruby and Sapphire could have possibly defused when seeing Carnage was a twisted fusion, just like with the Cluster hand, their inability to sustain the Symbiote and their own abilities, elemental or otherwise, would enable them to repel it long enough to refuse.
Boomstick: And finally, the Future Vision would easily let Garnet keep ahead of pretty much anything Carnage could use against her.
Popup: Although Carnage can dampen Spider-Man’s Spider-Sense, Garnet’s Future Vision is not the same thing.
Wiz: Carnage was a tough and unorthodox opponent to take on, but Garnet had the explosive strength, relativistic speed and gem abilities needed to end the symbiotic serial killer.
Boomstick: Completely ruining whatever Vision of Carnage he had.
Wiz: The winner is Garnet.

Trivia[]
- The connection between Garnet and Carnage is that they are both red colored fusions of two individuals; Ruby and Sapphire, and Cletus and the Symbiote, respectively. Both also have alien origins, hailing from planets where, in spite of fusions being common, are considered taboo, and can manifest their weapons from their bodies and shape-shift. However, whilst Garnet fused out of love, Carnage did so for the power to kill people.
- This battle would have been in hand-drawn
- The original music for this battle would have been called 'Crystal-Clear Carnage', which is drawn from Garnet's team the Crystal Gems and Carnage's name in an alliterative manner
