Description[]
Lord of the Rings vs Mortal Kombat! We’re sending Season 1 off with an Earth-shaking brawl between two almighty warriors! Will Gandalf send the fool, Raiden, flying? Or will Raiden perform a flawless victory?
Interlude[]
Wiz: Despite the ever growing forces of darkness, there will always be a knight in shining armor. Whether it be an elderly wizard or a being of electricity, they won’t rest until evil is sealed away.
Boomstick: Becoming fleshbags like us, those “guardian angels” usually have a mortal form. Like Gandalf, the servant of the Secret Fire and wielder of the flame of Anor.
Wiz: And Raiden, the god of thunder and lightning who battles to save Earthrealm.
Boomstick: He's Wiz and I'm Boomstick!
Wiz: And it's our job to analyze their weapons, armor, and skills to find who would win... a DEATH BATTLE!
Gandalf sends DEATH BATTLE! back to the shadow![]
Wiz: At the dawn of creation itself, there was only the Father of All, Eru Ilúvatar. He used his immense powers to create angelic servants known as the Ainur to assist him in his deeds. And so, he created all of existence with a harmonious, perfect song. With this intergalactic song by the higher beings, they created everything, including another race of god-like beings called the Maiar. Their main purpose was to aid the Valar, a whole offshoot of the original Ainur circle, build the world of Middle-Earth.
Boomstick: Among these over-glorified construction workers were iconic faces like Mairon, the diabolical backstabber we all know as the peeper with the big ass eye, Sauron, and Curumo, who we’re all aware was played by Christopher Lee. Out of all of them, the arguably most important and the one with the coolest beard should be clear. That’s right, it’s… Olórin? Who?
Wiz: Olórin was sent down to be a guardian angel to counsel those opposed by Sauron, his fallen relative. Bearing a mortal disguise resembling an old man, the mighty Maiar walked Middle-Earth now as the wise wizard Gandalf.
Boomstick: Ohh, it’s mister flying fools!
Popup: Gandalf has gone with many names over the years, like Mithrandir, Randolf, Greyfarn, and even Smirnof, like the beer.
Wiz: During his earthbound journey, he would meet a young hobbit named Bilbo Baggins, and develop a strong relationship with him over the years.
Boomstick: Plus, they went on a massive quest and beat the shit out of a fire-breathing dragon, but we won’t go into that right now.
Wiz: Fast forward many years, and let’s meet now old Bilbo’s nephew, Frodo, who is about to be trusted with one of the most powerful objects in Middle-Earth history.
Boomstick: A ring! Not like the expensive Cartier junk, but a little ring of bling forged by Sauron, who manipulated the Gwaith-i-Mírdain into handing over their famous forge. This ring was hella strong, capable of turning the bearer invisible and even enhancing the power of the bearer. It came with a price though, as seen when Sméagol the hobbit got his grubby hands on them and became the mountain hobo we call Gollum.
Wiz: And so, Gandalf led Frodo and two other hobbits on an adventure to destroy the malicious ring by tossing it into the molten lava of Mount Doom and end Sauron’s wrath once and for all. Although they were a small crew, they built their forces later on and really packed a punch.
Boomstick: And nothing really struck harder than Gandalf’s magic! Well, what would you expect from a member of a race known for their eye-catching tricks?
Wiz: Gandalf is capable of using the Words of Command, a set of magical abilities that can move objects and do tasks from a distance controlled by only words, essentially becoming a cheat for housework.
Boomstick: Buckle up, that’s just the tip of the iceberg.
Wiz: He can create practically indestructible Istari forcefields, and control the elements to any degree. Gandalf mostly uses fire with this ability.
Boomstick: Gandalf can also shoot blinding light from his staff, make practically anything burst into flames in seconds, control the weather, chat with animals, and even crack the code and read people’s minds! I’m gonna grab my tinfoil hat real quick.
Wiz: This isn’t where it all ends, however. While venturing into Mines of Moria, the Fellowship of the Ring was attacked by the villainous Balrog titled Durin’s Bane. The mighty wizard managed to shield his allies from the beast and slay it, unfortunately resulting in the loss of his own life.
Boomstick: Gandalf’s spirit was plucked from death and given cosmic cpr to bring him back to life, so he could continue to rally the people against Sauron. He was brought to Galadriel, the lady of the woods, and nurtured back to life. He was given pretty sick looking white robes, and continued the fight as Gandalf the White!
Popup: With this new, much more powerful form, Gandalf’s powers were greatly amplified, and he became a stronger force against evil.
Wiz: Gandalf also wields a mystic sword called Glamdring, capable of piercing the flesh of the Balrog and even draw lightning to boost his powers. He also wields the powerful ring Narya, known as the Ring of Fire.
Boomstick: Ha! Like Johnny Cash!
Wiz: Using this ring, Gandalf can turn himself invisible at will, enhance his willpower, and make him immune to any fire based attack.
Boomstick: Going past all of his cool tricks, we have his downright bonkers abilities he gets from having his “be a Maiar” card punched. Under his mortal guise, he can straight up manipulate matter and energy to his whims!
Wiz: Gandalf can manipulate many more elements than he could before, change the emotions of a person, see the past and future, and shapeshift into virtually anything.
Boomstick: He can also creepily shed his skin like a snake and show his blinding true form! In this state, he can travel throughout any point of time, but he can’t change it at all. Makes sense because of the paradox shit in the sci-fi movies, but it’s kinda lame.
Wiz: Although he appears to be a frail, old man, his magical prowess is amazing.
Boomstick: With his Istari forcefield, he could resist direct hits from the Balrog, who could shake the Timeless Voids during their battle against the Music of the Ainur! In English, this means that he could easily resist blows from a being that shook a plane that exists outside of the universe! …my head hurts already.
Wiz: Gandalf himself is also unbound by the laws of space time, allowing him to move so fast that he can move to the past and future. We should also note the fact that he himself is a being that exists outside of the universe, practically making him more powerful than any non-angelic being in Middle-Earth.
Boomstick: …holy shit.
Wiz: However, he still has his weaknesses. As Gandalf the Gray, he still maintains the physical capabilities of an elderly man, disregarding his magic.
Boomstick: He also usually focuses more on defense than offense, which could sometimes give his foe the advantage.
Wiz: Although the ever-growing forces of Sauron weigh down the natural order of Middle-Earth, the mighty wizard Gandalf will never stop fighting to save the mortal plane from the clutches of evil.
Gandalf: “It is not despair, for despair is only for those who see the end beyond all doubt. We do not. For even the very wise cannot see all ends. Well, here at last, dear friends, on the shores of the Sea comes the end of our fellowship in Middle-Earth.”
Raiden consults with DEATH BATTLE![]
(Cue: Fall of the Thunder God)
Wiz: Outside of our known world, there lies six realms including ours: Earthrealm, Outworld, Neatherrealm, Edenia, Chaosrealm, and Orderrealm. As far apart as they seem, one ruler wanted to merge them all so he could rule them all at once.
Boomstick: Meet Shao Kahn, the skull-faced, hammer wielding conquerer hailing from Outworld. As we said, he wanted to piece all the realms together like a Lego set, and there was one way he decided to do it. Welcome to Mortal Kombat!
Wiz: This was a brutal fighting tournament created by the Elder Gods to keep the realms in check, and Shao Kahn decided this would be the perfect way to spread his rule. He had his eyes on a major target, which was our own Earthrealm.
Boomstick: So, we meatbags down on planet Earth needed somebody to help us survive in the kill or be killed tournament. Luckily, that knight in shining armor came to us in our biggest time of need. With a pointed hat and double-a battery powers, let’s meet the mighty Lord Raiden!
Popup: And no, not the one that eats the belly buttons of kids who take their shirts off during a storm.
Wiz: Long ago, Raiden and the rest of the Elder Gods fought against Shinnok, a fallen Elder God, before sealing him away in the Netherrealm, essentially Mortal Kombat Hell.
Boomstick: After this was when Shao Kahn decided to start his overglorified interdimensional fight club, and Raiden decided to collect Earthrealm’s greatest warriors to kick his ass in the tournament. Though, he himself couldn’t participate in the fight.
Wiz: So, he decided to gain a mortal disguise and fight for his home, unaging and always ready for battle. Despite his new form, he still retains his thunderous abilities.
Boomstick: Raiden’s fighting style is the product of an affair between hand-to-hand combat and cool zappy powers. He has cool moves like Hammer Fists, knife hands strikes thrown downwards, and Hop Heel Smash, a powerful axe kick.
Wiz: Straight Shock is a cross punch charged by lightning, Heavy Storm is a tackle coated with electricity, Thunder Knee is just Heavy Storm except with… well, his knee, and Lightning Hammer is an electric axehandle.
Boomstick: Raiden’s Shocker, a shocking move, is a counterattack with lightning-y effects, Electric Current is a current of electricity set on the ground, Sudden Energy is a charged claw thrust, Thunder Cloud is a dupe move where Raiden teleports behind his foe and zaps them, Power Discharge is a zapping karate chop, and God’s Rage is just an infused uppercut and palm slap. Misleading name, honestly.
Wiz: White Lightning is a floating kick, Downpour is a fast beatdown on the opponent, Divine Power is a move where he slams the opponent’s chest with his staff, Deadly Storm is an electric-fueled roundhouse kick, Might of Mordulus is a low kick followed by a homing bolt, and Rising Thunder is a jumping uppercut.
Boomstick: Apart from his karate, he can control the weather anyway he wants to. He can create small lightning clouds, summon bolts from the ground, and create deadly rain.
Wiz: Raiden also has a multitude of fatalities, including Super Shocker, where he electrocutes his foe’s head until it bursts. With Dark Force, he cuts the opponent’s neck, elbows their face, and slams them by the neck before shooting electricity that tears them to pieces.
Boomstick: In Overload, Raiden beats the shit out of the opponent and throws them to the other side, before twisting them in half like a critical hit on Fruit Ninja!
Wiz: With Inside You-
Boomstick: What the hell?
Wiz: …Raiden teleports to his opponent’s place, turning the foe into bits and chunks.
Boomstick: Power Outage summons two balls of electricity that rip the opponent’s arms off and throws them to the ground, the Klassic, an Earthrealm hood original, simply decapitates the foe with a palm strike, Zap Zap is an overload of electricity that blows a fool up, and Elder Storm Strike basically steals the opponent’s shins with lightning.
Wiz: Brutal Bolt rips off the top half of a head with electricity, Karma is a bolt that grows inside the opponent and bursts them, Planted is a downward punch that cuts the foe in two, and Pushing Through uses Raiden’s staff to slice a foe like butter.
Boomstick: Aside from his powers, Raiden has some pretty wacky weapons, like his iconic staff that is more durable than it looks. It allows him to send messages to his future self, and help harness his zappy powers. He also wields a mighty War Hammer, and the Amulet of Raiden which increases his powers.
Wiz: One weapon stands out from the rest, however: Shinnok’s Amulet. Through this tool he became a much more powerful being, known as Dark Raiden. In this form, Raiden’s powers greatly enhance, and makes him capable of stealing souls and manipulate minds like Shinnok could.
Boomstick: He can also create a little version of himself that he can get down and boogie with!
Wiz: …we do NOT need to go over Lil Raiden.
Boomstick: We don’t need to talk about him, cuz I made him myself! Hell yeah!
*Boomstick throws a double-a battery to the floor, creating a miniature Boomstick that starts dancing.*
Lil Boomstick: Let’s boogie!
*A kick is heard, and Lil Boomstick screams before disappearing.*
Boomstick: …fuck you.
Wiz: Anyways, Raiden also has a true form, which is just formless electricity that can take almost any shape.
Boomstick: This allows him to also heal himself from most physical wounds, which unfortunately didn’t work for Lil Boomstick…
Wiz: Raiden’s powers are also reflected through his feats too. For instance, as an Elder God, he scales to Fire God Liu Kang, who was capable of destroying some timelines before he was stopped.
Boomstick: His lightning bolts were also capable of destroying multiple floors of the Sky Temple, decapitate Shinnok, and harm Geras, who gets gradually stronger every time he dies.
Wiz: He isn’t safe from weaknesses though. His powers are greatly limited when he isn’t in a realm controlled by him, and he can lose his godhood if he fuses his soul with another,
Boomstick: Plus, overuse of the Amulet of Shinnok will slowly drain his life and kill him.
Wiz: Despite bearing a mortal guise and even falling into his own temptations, Raiden is an honorable Elder God who will put his life on the line to save his beloved humans.
Raiden: “Too long have I allowed Earthrealm to endure the horrors of war. Time and again we've defeated our enemies. But we've exacted no retribution. Demanded no remuneration. What have we gained for our mercy? More intrigue. More senseless violence.”
Intermission[]
Wiz: Alright, the combatants are set! We've run the data through all possibilities.
Boomstick: IT'S TIME FOR A DEATH BATTLE!!!
Death Battle[]
The crowds cheered. Lightning crackled in the sky. Something important was happening.
The vast world of Middle-Earth was now set in the cycle of the Mortal Kombat tournament. Their greatest champion decided he would face a defender from Earthrealm.
At the top of a very stylish coliseum built by his servants stood the villainous Shao Kahn, overseer of the tournament. On his golden throne he sat, waiting for the battle to begin.
Suddenly, the left gate swung open and a figure emerged, with a god-like aura filling the stadium. The darkness left his spot, and it was revealed to be Lord Raiden, the god of thunder and immortal defender of Earthrealm. His eyes began to glow blue, and he walked to the center of the ring.
The right gate followed suit, and an elderly man emerged with a pipe in his mouth, a staff in his hand, and a sword to his side. His pointed hat covered his face with shadow and only allowed his long beard to be visible. He then walked to the center to meet his opponent.
“So, you are the mighty wizard Gandalf? It is a pleasure to meet you. I’m sorry that our first interaction was fated to be set in combat.” Lord Raiden spoke. Gandalf lifted his pipe from his mouth, and dropped it to the floor. “Likewise.”
A slight grin could be seen visible on the tournament overseer’s face, and one of his servants swung a club towards the gong. Both combatants crackled with sheer electricity, and they swung their staffs together, creating a mighty shockwave of power that filled the stadium!
FIGHT![]
Raiden began the fight by shoving Gandalf back and shooting bolts of electricity towards him. The wizard swung at them with his staff which turned them into smoke, and he twirled his staff before slamming it back down to the ground. He put his hand towards his foe, and by merely saying “move,” the Words of Command pulled Raiden towards him. The Elder God managed to break free and he fired another stream of lightning towards Gandalf, striking him and forcing the staff out of his hand. The wizard again pulled the tool back towards him and pointed it towards Raiden. “You are more powerful than you look.” the Elder God chuckled.
“Don’t judge an old man by his appearance.” Gandalf replied, before a blinding light emerged from his staff that dropped Raiden from midair. He then blasted a flame from his staff, but Raiden flew away just in time to avoid it. He then clapped his hands and fired more beams towards Gandalf, who managed to smack them away with his staff, including one that flew back towards Raiden. The Elder God caught it, and he tossed it down towards the wizard, breaking the ground under him and sending him flying backwards. “You’re clever, Raiden. But I can predict your tactics.” The wizard began to read Raiden’s mind, before discovering where he would fire next.
Raiden noticed what he was doing, and he began to clear his head. Gandalf’s contact was broken, and Raiden sent a beam of lightning, hitting the wizard square in the chest and slamming him against the stadium walls. He caught himself with his staff, and pointed it to the skies. A lightning bolt fell towards him and he was charged with its energy, before he sent a beam firing towards Raiden. The Elder God tried to catch it, but he was thrown off guard and hit in the chest.
Raiden’s eyes crackled, and he clapped his hands, creating an electric shock that stunned Gandalf. He then darted towards his foe and readied a punch that hit the wizard square in the chest and knocked the enduring pipe out of his mouth! Gandalf dug his staff into the ground and coughed up blood. Raiden then swung a kick down towards the grounded wizard, who swatted him away with his staff and pushed him backwards with another flash of light. The Elder God charged again, but Gandalf clenched his fist to create a wall of ice in front of him.
“You seem to have mastered the elements, wizard. But your attacks are a bit too late.” Raiden remarked, before punching the ice and shattering it instantly. Gandalf smirked, and pulled his hat back up from over his eyes. “There’s one thing everybody knows, Lord Raiden. A wizard is never late.”
Confused, Raiden turned around, and saw a brick from the stadium walls flying towards him as he noticed Gandalf was muttering more words under his breath. Before he could react, the object smashed him in the face, sending him flying back down towards Gandalf. The wizard began to coat his arm in fire and he swung his first punch at Raiden’s chest, burning his clothes and knocking him to the ground. Raiden stood back up and called another lightning bolt down from the skies, before catching it and throwing it at Gandalf like a spear. The eyes of the wizard began to glow, and an Istari forcefield formed around him to block the strike.
Raiden tossed multiple punches at the shield, but it proved to be almost indestructable. Or so it seemed.
The Elder God clutched his amulet, and electricity began to flow through his veins. With a swift punch, the shield was shattered, and Gandalf was electrocuted. Raiden flew towards him, but the wizard reached into his sheathe and pulled out the mighty sword Glamdring. With a quick cut, Raiden was torn in half. However, electricity began to form in his midsection, bringing him back to life almost instantly! “You’re a stubborn one, I’ll give you that.” Gandalf replied. Raiden smirked, and he punched Gandalf back before delivering a roundhouse kick, flinging the wizard into the stadium wall. The Elder God bulleted towards him, but he rolled out of the way in time, which led to Raiden breaking the wall and getting his arm stuck.
Gandalf began to build up a flame on the wall that slowly moved towards Raiden’s location, which led the Elder God to pull his shoulder away hard enough to rip his arm clean off and regenerate it with electricity. He then charged towards Gandalf and delivered a swift axehandle to his face, spurting out blood and sending him rolling across the field. Again, he caught himself by using his staff, and he muttered words under his breath. The stones under Raiden’s feet began to shake, and he was launched upwards, which led Gandalf pointed his staff to the skies. Another lightning bolt began to form, and it quickly darted downwards, striking Raiden square in the chest and slamming him down on the ground.
The Elder God stood back up, and he sent another beam towards Gandalf, which was countered by a beam of light from the staff of the wizard. “Your willpower… your overall presence, it’s astounding! I am glad to have had this fight, but you cannot win.” Raiden said, as his beam began to slowly overpower the one from Gandalf. The wizard, however, smirked under his beard, and muttered again under his breath. “Be silent.”
Suddenly, Gandalf’s beam began to increases in size, and Raiden’s beam began to slowly wither away! The Elder God gasped as the strike created a small explosion, leaving a crater in the ground and no sight of Raiden other than his hat. Gandalf sighed, and picked up his pipe. “That was-“
Suddenly, the Elder God emerged from the smoke, wielding his mighty war hammer. With a quick smash, the ground under Gandalf began to crack and the wizard was sent flying into the air and down the crater.
Gandalf stood back up, and Raiden bounded down with the hammer. He quickly countered it with another slash by Glamdring, and Raiden landed on his feet. The Elder God delivered more swings with his weapon, but the wizard kept parrying it with his glowing sword before he pointed it up to the air. The skies crackled, and another lightning bolt came down and struck Gandalf’s sword, creating a small shockwave that pushed Raiden back and charging Gandalf. He swung his blade again, and cut a gap in Raiden’s chest, but it was patched instantly with electricity.
“I am the thunder god. Your thunder won’t do permanent damage.” Raiden said, swinging his war hammer downwards once more and throwing Gandalf off his feet. The wizard pinned his sword of the floor and began to draw electricity from the floor, before slashing at Raiden multiple times and damaging his outfit. “Fool of a god!” Gandalf yelled, before stabbing his foe straight in the chest and pulling his sword out. The Elder God’s chest reformed and he delivered a roundhouse kick to Gandalf followed by a swift uppercut that sent him flying farther back into the hollowed crater.
The wizard fell to the floor, and Raiden swung his hammer down again, but he managed to avoid it by rolling out of his way and he pulled himself up with his staff. The Elder God smirked and punched the floor, and almost instantly a stream of electricity covered the floor. Gandalf was electrocuted, but he soon recovered and perch himself on top of his staff. “A new hazard added to the playing grounds. Risky move, Lord Raiden.” Gandalf spoke, and he pointed his finger towards Raiden. The bolts began to pull off the ground, and they all charged towards their original master like tendrils.
Raiden began to throw punches towards the bolts, destroying them as soon as he hit them. However, a few wrapped up around him and pinned him to the ground. “I control the weather too, wizard.” Raiden remarked, and his eyes flashed again. The clouds above began to grow, and raindrops as sharp as needles began to descend onto the battlefield. Gandalf gasped, and instantly created another Istari shield. This, however, shut off the wizard’s electric tendrils, and Raiden broke free, rushing up to the glowing bubble and repeatedly preforming his physical attacks on it, while Gandalf sat safely inside.
With one more swift punch, the shield dispersed, and Raiden dashed towards Gandalf’s direction… only to find that he was nowhere to be found. He then saw two large chunks of rock adjacent to his current position, and looked straight forward, watching the wizard use the Words of Command again. The rocks slammed together, but after a few seconds, Raiden broke out and flew towards Gandalf, grabbing his war hammer on the way. He swung at his face, but it was again matched by Glamdring. The feet of the wizard dug into the ground as his electric foe pressed up against him.
“There are fates worse than death, wizard. I will make sure you die peacefully.” Raiden yelled, pressing Gandalf deeper into the battlefield and weakening him. The wizard’s hat lifted up from his eyes, and he yelled back. “Don’t tempt me!” Suddenly, Gandalf began to gain the upper hand. Raiden’s charge began to weaken, and with one quick slash, the Elder God was pierced and propelled far back into the stadium wall. He lifted himself up, coughing up blood and reforming his body outside of the spots impaled by the wall. He began to give in… his malice, his hate. This foolish wizard wouldn’t get the best of him.
But no. He kept his honor for now.
The electricity crackled in the skies as the rain continued to pour down harder. Raiden began to glow again, and he bounded in the air before charging towards Gandalf! The wizard began to control the spare rocks in the crater and throw them towards his foe, but they all broke on contact. He gasped, and Raiden rammed into Gandalf and pinned him against the wall. The Elder God then began to throw a flood of punches towards the wizard’s whole body, squirting droplets of blood left and right, almost drenching both his cloak and beard.
“Fly, you fool!” Gandalf yelled, before clenching his fist and casting another forcefield around himself. Raiden was propelled into the skies, but he began to bullet back down before ramming into the shield and creating a large shockwave that formed a crack in the middle of the crater. Raiden roared, and he began to charge a stream of electricity into his fists using the amulet, and with multiple punches, the shield dispersed and stunned Gandalf. The wizard drew his blade again and slashed at his charging foe, cutting another gap in his chest and spilling more blood.
Raiden’s wounds were patched again, and he delivered an axehandle to Gandalf’s head before grabbing him by the legs and swinging him. The wizard flew across the arena and slammed against the wall. But despite his age, despite everything, through sheer will he stood. Raiden began to heavily breathe as he stared his opponent in the eyes. “You have mighty willpower. But you must die. I don’t know why, but fate intertwined our paths by leading us here. Goodbye, wizard.”
Raiden swung his charged fist towards his foe and sped towards him, punching him straight in the throat. Blood flew in the air, and Raiden began to rapidly beat down the elderly wizard. Punches flew, kicks whirled, but Gandalf endured it all. With one final blow to the skull, a flood of blood erupted from the wizard’s head and dropped him to the floor. Raiden crossed his arms and closed his eyes, trying not to think about the act he had just committed.
Little did he know, Gandalf still stood.
The wizard pinned his staff into the ground and pulled himself up. He spat out blood, but a white energy began to surge through his body. Another forcefield formed around him, except this one was much larger. The arena floor began to crumble into pieces and swirl around the shield. Gandalf’s eyes began to glow underneath, and his wounds began to instantly patch. “FEEL ISTARI MIGHT!” he yelled, echoing into the skies. However, Raiden wouldn’t let this transformation happen.
He shut his eyes and knew what he had to do. He had to give in.
The Elder God revealed the Amulet of Shinnok, and strapped it around his neck. He began to instantly change into a darker form. He had become Dark Raiden. Instantly, he charged towards the bubble and broke through it instantly, catching Gandalf off guard during his transformation and creating a shockwave large enough to destroy the entire arena. Dark Raiden continued his tackle, pushing them both through the skies of Middle-Earth at supersonic speeds.
While flying, Raiden continued to maul Gandalf with his fists, dropping his blood from the skies. They then crashed into a large tree, uprooting it instantly and grounding both combatants.
The Elder God stood up, his corrupted face showing no sign of emotions. He looked around, but yet again, Gandalf was missing.
“You play a dirty game, Lord Raiden.” Gandalf remarked. The wizard reached into his cloak and removed a small ring, the mighty ring Narya. He then slipped it on his finger, and a red, fiery aura formed around him.
Raiden pushed his fist out and sent a crackling beam of electricity towards Gandalf. The wizard countered it by shooting a flame from the ring, but Raiden managed to easily plow through it with his fist. However, after the flames had faded, his foe was nowhere to be found. The Elder God tried to tap into his foe’s mind. It was successful, and he discovered his location.
A seemingly floating blade swung down from the air, but Raiden dodged it in the nick of time and grabbed the apparition by the neck. The wizard’s invisibility began to fade, dropping his sword as Raiden’s chokehold became tighter. Gandalf grinned, however, and mumbled more words under his breath. The fallen tree rose from the ground, and it swung down towards Raiden. The ring cast invisibility again, and Gandalf managed to break out of Dark Raiden’s grasp, crushing the Elder God under the massive tree and creating a loud boom that echoed into the skies.
Gandalf began to catch his breath outside of the rubble. He watched his foe break out from the fallen wood and crackle with red electricity. The wizard knew his foe wasn’t showing any more mercy, so he wouldn’t hold back either.
Raiden bounded towards Gandalf and readied his fist, hitting him directly in the face. He sent more bolts of electricity towards the stunned wizard, who managed to break out of his trance in time and destroy the bolts instantly by swinging the ring at them. Narya began to glow, and Gandalf pointed it towards Raiden before another flood of fire burst out.
The flames seemed to overtake the Elder God, but Gandalf knew this wasn’t it. Suddenly, his head began to ache, and he felt Dark Raiden trying to control his mind. “No… NO! Don’t tempt me, corrupted god!” Gandalf yelled. His own mind tricks began to overtake Raiden, pushing his grasp out of his mind. The wizard clenched his teeth, and stared into the flames. Dark Raiden walked out, covered completely with fire and only revealing his threatening, glowing eyes. He pointed his finger at Gandalf and shot a thin bolt at his chest, impaling him and firing blood backwards.
The wizard held his wound, and he put his arm towards Raiden, and the sliced pieces of wood rose again. They darted towards him like daggers, but the corrupted Elder God began to smash them with his fists before grabbing one and throwing it towards Gandalf. It struck him in the other side of his chest, but his will continued to live on. Raiden drew his mighty war hammer again and covered it with electricity before smashing Gandalf in the chest and punching him straight in the face, squirting blood and dropping the elderly wizard down a hill. The Elder God slammed his fist into the ground and the chunks of the wet grassland began to lift to the rainy skies.
Gandalf pinned his staff into the ground and wiped his bloody face on his sleeve, before noticing that the area around him began to float. He then closed his eyes and began to search around. He felt a dark, villainous presence near him, and he knew exactly what it was! Dark Raiden charged behind him with the hammer, but before he was hit again, the wizard swung his blade, cutting the Elder God through the chest and spilling blood.
Raiden roared, and he swung the hammer up again, knocking Gandalf’s hat off his head and dropping it down to the dirt below. He didn’t speak to preserve his blood, but he swung his sword again. It struck Raiden’s hammer, but the Elder God pulled his hammer up and tossed the wizard’s blade to the side. Gandalf closed his eyes, and Dark Raiden picked him up by the head and began to use Shinnok’s Amulet to draw his soul out, against the normally valiant Elder God’s will. The wizard screamed. Nothing he had ever felt was comparable to the wretched feeling coursing through his veins now.
But he had also felt hope.
Like earlier, the Istari forcefield began to form around the bloodied wizard, flinging Dark Raiden to the side. He stood up, and a white light began to completely overtake him. His wounds patched, and his garments changed, dressing him now in a shining white garment. The shield dispersed, and Gandalf grabbed his blade once more. He was no longer the Grey, he was Gandalf the White. With a clean slash of Glamdring, the flying platform split in two, and dropped them both back down to the valley.
Dark Raiden caught himself midair and swung a powerful punch towards his glowing foe, but Gandalf avoided it and created another forcefield, granting him a safe landing. The Elder God growled, and he rammed into the forcefield, but it wouldn’t budge. Quickly he decided to charge all the energy from his amulet and ram into it once more, shattering the mystical bubble and bringing Gandalf the White back into the playing field. The wizard was ready, however, and he created a field of flame in the air and struck Raiden in the chest, pushing him back.
“I do not wish for this fight to continue any longer, Lord Raiden. I will show you mercy.” Gandalf spoke. Deep down, Raiden wanted to quit too, but the Amulet of Shinnok spoke to him. He had come too far. He needed to finish this fight through.
Coughing up blood, Raiden swung his fist at the wizard, but it was instantly blocked by another wall of ice. “Fine then. If you don’t want to stop now, then we will drag this meaningless brawl onwards.” Gandalf drew Glamdring to his side, lifted it to the air, and it was struck by another lightning bolt.
The two charged at each other. Gandalf the White sliced his blade at Dark Raiden’s chest, but his more spry foe seemed too fast for him. The war hammer formed back in his hands and he swung downwards, instantly being blocked by the Ring of Narya. A flame shot out of the ring and propelled the hammer backwards, which led to Gandalf slicing his blade towards Raiden’s chest. It was cut, but the Elder God ripped the sword out and it reformed. He swung his flaming hammer upwards to hit Glamdring, succeeding in doing so and pinning Gandalf’s weapon into the ground.
The wizard used the Words of Command to encase Raiden’s feet under the rocks, which gave him enough time to grab his sword again. The Elder God instantly broke out, and a swinging roundhouse kick was countered by a clean jab from Glamdring. However, Raiden’s eyes flashed again, and a lightning bolt fell from the skies and zoomed towards Gandalf. The wizard quickly swung his blade upwards and cleverly charged it again, before going in for a stab on Raiden’s chest. He missed, and Raiden grabbed him by the hair before kneeing him in the face and throwing him backwards.
Deciding to break his silence, the villainous personality of Dark Raiden began to speak. “I value Earthrealm over all else! Further resistance serves no purpose. This timeline will be destroyed. Starting with you.” He raised his hammer to the skies and prepared to swing it down as an ominous flash of red lightning drenched the skies in blood red light.
Gandalf picked his face up from the dirt and stretched his arm towards his sword again. He mumbled “move” under his breath, and as soon as Raiden swung his tool of war down, the wizard regained his blade and countered it with a mighty block!
Gandalf stood up, and wiped the sweat from his brow. His white garments were tattered and dirty, unlike his hope. “You have given in to your hate and malice, Lord Raiden. I will make this quick.”
Almost instantly, Raiden’s war hammer reformed and he dragged it across the ground as he bulleted towards Gandalf. The wizard held his blade in front of him, and they collided. Gandalf was pushed back a few inches, but his blade began to draw the electricity from the war hammer. Raiden gasped, and the hammer suddenly gave out, sending him flying towards Gandalf and instantly slicing him in half.
However, the electricity began to stitch his body back together, and his fist crackled with electricity as he swung another jab towards Gandalf’s chest. The wizard regained his stance and his ring began to glow, shooting a circle of fire from the ground that trapped Raiden. The Elder God, however, cut a hole using his electricity and he charged through it, ramming into another cleverly cast ice wall courtesy of Gandalf the White. He eventually overpowered it and he was met by another swing from Glamdring.
The blade lodged into his chest, but Raiden ignored it and summoned his staff from the skies. He slammed it against Gandalf’s chest to push him away, and he pointed it up to the skies to draw another lightning bolt. The Elder God slammed it to the ground and the crust of the valley began to crumble, creating large gaps between chunks of torn land. Gandalf landed on a single pillar of land, only to see Dark Raiden charging towards him again, covered with glowing red electricity. He put his fist towards Raiden, and the ring began to glow.
A massive beam of fire burst out and Gandalf moved left and right trying to hit his fast flying foe, eventually striking him down. Raiden managed to pin his staff into the side of the pillar and he pulled himself up, before delivering an axehandle to Gandalf’s face and roundhouse kicking him onto another cracked platform. The wizard stood back up, and Narya began to glow again. “Your corrupted soul will not destroy my home! Go back to the shadow, you dark shell!” Gandalf yelled, before charging Glamdring with the power of the Ring of Fire.
Raiden clutched his amulet and began to draw power from it, charging himself with both the evil power of Shinnok and the heroic power of his own amulet. The ground seemed to crack even further as he bounded towards Gandalf, with a punch at the ready. The wizard held his blade in a defensive manner, and closed his eyes.
The unstoppable force headed towards the immovable object. One must stand, so the other must fall.
The two collided, and energy coursed through both their bloodstreams. Time seemed to freeze around them both, leading us to an eternal stalemate.
The camera fades out, traveling millions of times above the current plane of existence.
The area is black, and almost empty. There is nothing except for a glowing light in the distance.
Inside the light, a giant string of formless electricity takes the shape of Lord Raiden, although much larger. He stares down at his smaller foe, an angel with flowing white hair and a blade in hand. They stare at each other, and know what they must do.
Olórin instantly bulleted into the air and began to slash towards the giant Raiden, who shifted around each attack and struck back with his own electric abilities. The Maiar managed to dodge the attacks and he began to rip the shadows off the void and throw them towards the electric being by using only his mind. They struck Raiden, but he managed to absorb them before clapping his hands and knocking Olórin out of the air.
The Maiar picked himself back up and pointed his blade towards Raiden, firing a beam of sheer energy that pierced his body and broke his form. He then attempted to grab the formless electricity with his bare hands, and while attempting to rip it in half, it instantly formed back into Raiden and then he swung his giant fist down. Olórin raised his blade and blocked the attack, the very timeless void shaking at the impact of the hit!
He pushed his fist down more, but Olórin sped out of the way like a flash of light and began to charge his blade with sheer willpower. Raiden’s true form then fired a massive beam from his chest, as a last ditch attempt to win the fight.
Olórin closed his eyes, and began to push his blade forward. He kept speeding through the beam, although it heavily damaged him.
“I am a servant of the Secret Fire, wielder of the flame of Anor!”
Raiden’s beam began to heavily strengthen, weakening Olórin even more. However, he still pushed through. He needed to.
“You cannot pass!”
Raiden’s true form roared in sheer anger. However, the mighty blade still tore through the blast and headed closer to his core.
“The dark fire will not avail you!”
The Raiden construct’s blue eyes flashed red, and his beam changed to a blood red. Olórin began to fade, but he still retained his willpower.
“Go back to the SHADOW!”
With one final slash, the beam was completely destroyed and Olórin bulleted towards his core. He readied a stab, and yelled.
“YOU SHALL NOT PAAAAAAAAASSSSSSS!!!”
With one final stab, the core of Raiden was pierced, and he roared in agony. The voids began to shake, and Raiden began to shatter, before looking the Maiar straight in the eyes. “My Earthrealm…” he said, before instantly exploding into sheer energy. The voids shaked again, and the camera fades back to Middle-Earth.
Gandalf’s blade began to pierce Dark Raiden. The Elder God’s whole body began to crack, and regaining his senses over the Amulet’s control, he simply smiled at Gandalf before the blade broke through and shattered him into multiple bolts of electricity!
Gandalf huffed and puffed, before putting his blade back in its sheath. He looked into the rainy skies, and the clouds began to clear up. A single flash of light broke through, and landed on the victorious wizard. But this Earthrealm his foe had mentioned… did it need a new guardian? Perhaps so.
“Don’t worry, mighty Lord Raiden. Your realm will receive my blessing. I hope you can find peace.”
And so, the wizard walked into a flashing light in the distance. Where he was going, he didn’t know.
Conclusion[]
Boomstick: …holy shit. Old dudes fighting is more breathtaking than I initially thought.
Wiz: Well, there’s a bit more than hard candies and canes to go over for this match. Both guardian angels were very even in their base stats. They both had almost complete control of the weather, so neither of them could actually gain a concrete edge in that sense.
Boomstick: Though, you could technically argue Raiden having a bit of an edge in that category, given that… y’know, he’s the god of thunder and lightning.
Wiz: They were both also surprisingly amazing fighters for their age, although contrasting. Raiden was clearly the more brutal, headfirst fighter here, while Gandalf was more relying on his magic tools and his spells to keep range.
Boomstick: Well, there are some good reasons that the Istari wizard won this fight. Starting off with the flashiest factor of this fight: electricity!
Wiz: Raiden’s main form of attacks derives from his electrical powers, and as we learnt earlier, Gandalf’s sword Glamdring could draw power from electricity, proving a majority of these attacks from Raiden to be useless when he has his sword drawn.
Popup: Raiden could potentially perform a majority of his fatalities by surprise, but Gandalf’s mind reading abilities would be able to tell him where he is at all times.
Boomstick: There’s also the fact that Raiden’s flying skills would be rendered practically useless by Gandalf’s Words of Command, allowing him to pull him by the ear like an angry mom and bring him closer to the ring to get more clean hits from Glamdring.
Wiz: Although the physical stats were a bit tricky to decipher, Gandalf’s victory becomes more fleshed out when we go into their more powerful forms: Gandalf the White and Dark Raiden.
Boomstick: Yeah, Whitey could control sheer energy and shapeshift through his awakened Maiar abilities, while all Raiden received soul stealing and mind control. The soul stealing wouldn’t necessarily work on Gandalf, or Raiden shouldn’t hope it would work, because it would technically just pop out Gandalf’s true form on the spot which would be enough to erase Raiden’s mortal shell. And the mind control wouldn’t have much of an effect either, given that Gandalf the White gains a willpower boost on top of his pre-existing mind powers!
Popup: Gandalf the White also draws no weaknesses from his upgraded form, while Dark Raiden’s use of Shinnok’s Amulet will slowly kill him.
Wiz: Going off of their feats of strength, Gandalf is… well, vastly more powerful. The strongest thing Raiden has performed was taking down Fire God Liu Kang’s timeline destroying rampage, but he was going full Elder God for that, making that reasonably the strongest thing he’s done. Meanwhile, Gandalf’s shield could resist the strike of the Balrog that shook an entire plane of existence thousands of times above ours, and this was performed in his weakest mortal form.
Boomstick: And now, let’s get to the most mind-boggling part of the whole fight: the True Forms. We know that they exist above our current plane, so this’ll be weird.
Wiz: Well, Raiden’s true form is formless cosmic electricity, capable of taking any shape and any size and, as we said before, is capable of stopping a timeline destroying menace. Gandalf’s true form, however, is a angel that assisted in the creation of everything, capable of moving fast enough to travel through time in mere seconds. Hundreds of times faster than anything Raiden’s really done!
Boomstick: …my head hurts. Lemme get a beer real quick.
Wiz: In the end, while Raiden was a mighty god with amazing electrical abilities and hand-to-hand skills, Gandalf’s strength, speed, and overall skillset proved to be the end of an Elder God.
Boomstick: Well, you shall pass me a shovel, because Raiden’s electrifying end is gonna need one big grave.
Wiz: The winner is Gandalf the Grey.
Trivia[]
- The connections between Gandalf and Raiden are that they are both extremely powerful immortals who've been assigned to defend the earth from the forces of darkness by a group of godlike beings (Valar/Elder Gods) by assisting and guiding the side of good to victory. Both dawn robes and wear a wide round hat. They wield a staff and have a wide variety of mystical powers like being able to call lightning. However, they are restricted from using their full godly power and even take upon a mortal appearance/form. Both act as the wise leading mentors to earth's group of heroes (Fellowship of the Ring/Defenders of Earthrealm) especially forming a close friendship to the chosen one (Frodo/Liu Kang). On their adventures both have dealt with an evil blunt weapon wielding ruler (Sauron/Shao Kahn), a betrayer (Saruman/Shinnok), an army of ugly and violent brutes (Orcs/Tarkatans), and a dark object (the One Ring/Shinnok’s Amulet). Later on, both characters shift their priorities a bit when they gain a stronger different colored form (Gandalf the White is given the strength of leadership to replace Saruman and his magical prowess expands/Dark Raiden is completely ruthless to anyone who gets in his way of protecting Earthrealm and has the power of Shinnok's amulet). Both are based off of mythological figures (Gandalf is inspired by Odin/Raiden is inspired by Raijin). Both of their “chosen ones” end up falling into darkness (Frodo eventually succumbs to the temptations of the Ring/Liu Kang dies and becomes a revenant).
