Funky is incredibly strong and is directly comparable to Donkey Kong, who's comparable, though physically superior to the likes of Mario, Luigi, and Wario. Funky is also capable of harming and besting the Kong Family's greatest adversaries like King K. Rool and Lord Fredrik.
- Superhuman Speed: Despite his muscular physique, Funky is surprisingly fast; he's directly comparable to Dixie Kong, who, alongside Kiddy Kong, can dodge and outrun lightning. Funky is also relatively equal to Donkey Kong, who has consistently kept up with Mario in combat. The latter can dodge meteors, lasers and react to being shot across the universe at massively faster-than-light speeds. The vehicles Funky drives in the Mario Kart games can reach over 195 mph (313 km/h).
- Superhuman Durability: Funky's defense is naturally equal to his offense, as he can tank attacks from opponents he can directly harm, such as Lord Fredrik.
- Superhuman Stamina: Funky has impressive endurance. In "Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze", He spent hours platforming, fighting, and swimming across various environments to get to Lord Fredrik without getting tired.

- Kart: In the Mario Kart games, Funky has access to numerous customizable Karts that he can use to drive across various terrains. As of "Mario Kart 8", all Karts have an Anti-Gravity feature Funky can activate at will, allowing him to drive up walls and surfaces impossible to reach normally.

- Bob-omb: Funky can summon this animate ticking time bomb that once dropped or thrown, will briefly walk across the battlefield before violently exploding.
- Boo: This is a mischievous ghostly entity that can steal items from opponents. While the Boo is looking for items, it makes Funky intangible for a short period.
- Boomerang Flower: This item is a boomerang that Funky can toss at opponents. He's capable of using this up to three times before disappearing.
- Bullet Bill: This item allows Funky to briefly transform into a giant Bullet Bill that rockets across the battlefield at high speeds, mowing anything in its way.
- Coin: These large gold coins have no real use in combat, though Funky can pocket these to increase the speed of the vehicle he's driving. If he collects ten coins, the speed of his vehicle will increase by 7%
- Crazy Eight: This rare item grants Funky a Smörgåsbord of eight commodities he can use. These include a Banana, Green Shell, Red Shell, Blooper, Mushroom, Star, Bob-omb, and Coin.
- Fake Item Box: This is a peculiar item vaguely resembling a normal item box. When dropped, it acts like a landmine that explodes when someone makes physical contact with it.
- Feather: This item propels Funky and his vehicle into the air, allowing him to dodge potential projectiles.
- Fire Flower: This power-up allows Funky to shoot a barrage of fireballs for a short period.
- Golden Mushroom: This illustrious item grants Funky consecutive speed boosts for a short period.
- Green Shell: This is a sturdy item that Funky can throw in front or behind him as a projectile to knock over opponents. Funky can also briefly use this as a shield against incoming attacks. This shell can bounce off its surrounding environment like a pinball before it eventually shatters.
- Item Box: This is a unique floating, ever-rotating block in the Mario Kart franchise. When Funky hits it, this box will give him one of twenty-seven items and power-ups. Because the boxes are randomized, Funky has no control over what item he'll get.
- Lightning: This item electrocutes all Funky's opponents in the surrounding area. It also drastically shrinks them and decreases their speed for a short period. It also causes them to drop whatever item they're currently holding.
- Mega Mushroom: This power-up grows Funky to immense size, boosting his speed and allowing him to flatten nearby opponents briefly.

- Piranha Plant: This large carnivorous plant sits at the front of Funky's vehicle and chomps away at anything nearby. The Pirahna Plant also grants a short burst of speed every time it snaps its jaws.
- POW Block: When dropped, this powerful item causes a thunderous earthquake that knocks over surrounding opponents and forces them to drop whatever item they're currently carrying.
- Red Shell One of the most dangerous items in the franchise, when thrown, the Red Shell will home in on a nearby opponent and knock them over upon impact. Funky can also briefly use this as a shield against incoming attacks.
- Spiny Shell: The most feared item in the entire franchise. Like the Red Shell, when the Spiny Shell is thrown, it'll home in on whoever is in first place, flying towards them at high speeds before crashing down with a powerful explosion.
- Super Horn: This item generates ear-splitting soundwaves around Funky Kong that destroy incoming projectiles and topple nearby opponents.
- Starman: This power-up ignites Funky in a brilliant blaze of colors, drastically increasing his speed and temporarily making him invincible.
- Thunder Cloud: This item will loom over Funky's head, giving him a constant speed boost for a short period. Afterward, it'll strike Funky with lightning and shrink him in size for ten seconds.
- Triple Bananas: This item gives Funky three bananas that'll orbit his vehicle. Funky can throw them as hazards or keep them as a shield against projectiles.
- Triple Green Shells: This item gives Funky three green shells that'll orbit his vehicle. Funky can throw them at opponents or keep them as a shield against projectiles.
