Description[]

Undertale vs. No Straight Roads! Two robotic entertainers who exist to put on one hell of a show! Which of these dazzling stars will survive the spotlight in this glorious battle of showbiz?

Interlude[]

Wiz: Ah, showbiz. The glamour, the lights, the call of the stage. It’s not easy being a star, having the expectations of your fans to constantly live up to.

Boomstick: And some people are destined for showbiz! Or, in this case, created for it!

Wiz: Mettaton, the glamorous dancing robot of the underground.

Boomstick: And 1010, the robotic boy band created to give light to Vinyl City.

Wiz: And it’s our job to analyze their weapons, armor and skills, to find out who would win…a Death Battle.

Mettaton[]

(Undertale - Metal Crusher)

Boomstick: So, what happens when an underground world fill of weird monsters suddenly desires a need for a shining star that can entertain their terribly bored lives?

Wiz: …Uh, where are you-

Boomstick: You create them, of course! And that’s exactly what happened with Mettaton, a former ghost that upon a meeting with Alphys, had their ghostly form put into the body of a, uh…sexy rectangle?

Wiz: Granted, said rectangle isn’t really Mettaton’s “true form”, so to speak. But rather a fabulous, flamboyant, singing and dancing robot.

Boomstick: Or would that be a cyborg, since he has a soul and all that?

Wiz: I am not having this discussion with you again.

Boomstick: Whatever. The point is, that is one sexy rectangle!

Wiz: *sigh* Mettaton, however, was not originally designed to a showman. If we take him at his word, Mettaton was originally designed as a “Human Eradication Robot”. Which, most humans maybe aren’t the scariest things to Monsters, but there is one in particular that proved to be quite the problem for the underground.

Boomstick: Like Frisk! Who, depending on the timeline, is a sweet innocent child who wouldn’t harm a snowman! Or maybe they’re a kid who got thrust into an unfamiliar world, killing whatever creatures comes at them!

Wiz: Or Chara. But we’ll get into them later. To get down to it, Mettaton may have been a combat robot to start, but that didn’t really stick. By the time that Frisk ended up meeting Mettaton, he had moved on from the life of combat. Focusing on becoming a star that would take the spotlight of the underground for himself.

Boomstick: Granted, that doesn’t mean that Mettaton ain’t capable in combat anymore. Just ask Frisk! Who had to deal with him as they traversed through Hotlands.

Wiz: While calculating Mettaton’s stats are a bit tricky, due to the nature of Undertale in general, we do have some concrete facts. By comparing him to Frisk, we can get a few calculations here and there, thanks to Mettaton more than holding his own against the fallen child throughout most of the fight.

Boomstick: For example! When they fought Mettaton in the first place, they were able to dodge out of the way of both Mettaton’s disco ball…attack. And the explosions of the bombs that he tosses around. Granted, that disco ball’s lights seemed to move pretty slowly.

Mettaton 2

Wiz: Plus, Mettaton himself isn’t without his own speed feats. Frisk themselves were given a sort of gun by Alphys to use against Mettaton. A bullet is typically fired faster than the speed of sound, and considering Mettaton is capable of dodging said bullets, that puts him around supersonic speeds at a minimum.

Boomstick: Frisk has also been shown to dodge lightning in their fight with Asriel, but considering the little bugger was high on Determination at that point, it’s probably safe to say that that doesn’t count when factoring in Mettaton.

Wiz: Indeed. Though speaking of Frisk, Mettaton’s attacks can obviously harm them. While Mettaton himself, according to the shown stats, is a touch weaker than Undyne, Frisk has been shown to be able take hits from things like meteor showers, bombs, and being hit by, uh…well, while I hate to say it-

Boomstick: TSUNDERPLANE! A TSUNDERE AIRPLANE! Heh. Get it? ‘Cuz tsund-air? What a smart monster.

Wiz: Ugh. Regardless. Frisk has been shown to take some powerful hits and clearly survive, even if they were more…metaphysical attacks that target the SOUL rather than explicitly physical, there’s no reason why the same sort of ideas shouldn’t apply. So, if Mettaton can hurt Frisk, that obviously puts his attack power at least on par with a meteor shower or…a plane.

Boomstick: However, when it comes to durability, that gets a bit…tricky. Y’see, we mentioned Chara, and there’s a reason for that. Chara managed to destroy literally the entire universe of Undertale with a single swing of their knife. That’s f***ing nuts!

Wiz: Granted, it is unfair to say that Mettaton is totally comparable to that attack. But it is still worth taking into consideration. With the idea of LV, or “Level of Violence” as its referred to, being the power that one gets from killing the monsters of the underground, if a version of Frisk did kill a bunch of monsters, then they would naturally be strong than the theoretical LV 1 Frisk we’ve been originally comparing Mettaton to.

Boomstick: And “Chara” of course couldn’t do that without being LV 20 and having the power of all the Human Souls gathered by Asgore. But even a fraction of literal f***ing universal destruction is potent.

Wiz: However, there is a way to figure out at least approximately where Mettaton lies. At an approximate maximum, Frisk can fight Mettaton at about LV 15. If we consider non-Soul absorbed Chara to be a step or two below Universal, that would put them at about 75% of that power. As for the Frisk that chose Genocide, the highest LV they can fight Mettaton at is 17. Putting them at about 85%.

Boomstick: Granted, this is all mostly speculation with some statistics backing it. While Mettaton EX has been shown to be able to fight Frisk at LV 15 at the same capabilities at LV 1, the one that fought Genocide Frisk is…another story.

Wiz: Ah yes, Mettaton NEO. Or as I would call it, a massive waste of potential.

Boomstick: Yeah, despite Mettaton’s boasts about how his NEO form were the functions that he hid away after becoming a star, he doesn’t…do much in that form. Being completely f***ing blitzed by Frisk in one shot.

Wiz: This is likely because while Mettaton NEO supposedly possesses some of the greatest attack power of anyone in the Undertale universe, his defenses are rock bottom. Having one of the lowest defense stats in the entire Undertale universe.

Boomstick: Whodathunk a “Human Eradication Robot” could get beat up by some ten-year-old with ballet shoes.

Wiz: Regardless, Mettaton boasts a fairly impressive arsenal, even in just his EX form. Mini-Mettatons, bombs, electric projectiles, and of course his own arms and legs.

Boomstick: Granted, Mettaton being obsessed with showiness and the spotlight comes with its own detriments. Mettaton is incredibly vain and generally puts way more effort into “putting on a show” then actually wanting to kill his opponent.

Wiz: Like when Frisk distracted Mettaton into turning around by telling him there was a mirror nearby. Or when Mettaton stopped in the middle of the fight to take a “union-regulated break” or give a pop-quiz to Frisk explaining how great Mettaton is.

Boomstick: Jeez, talk about an ego.

Wiz: Like you’re one to talk.

Boomstick: I don’t know what you’re talking about! I’m one of the most selfless people I know!

Wiz: …right. Regardless, despite the fact that Mettaton has, for the most part, abandoned his duties of combat, he still makes for a fierce opponent. Bringing a variety of attacks and general power to the battlefield.

Mettaton Intro

Mettaton: Haha, how inspiring! Well, darling! It’s either me or you! But I think we both know who’s going to win. Witness the true power of humanity’s star!

1010[]

(No Straight Roads - vs. 1010)

Wiz: In a futuristic city, there exists a machine known as the Qwasa. A device that can turn music into energy. The city known as Vinyl City harnessed this power, eliminating their previous energy crisis through the power of music.

Boomstick: Man, if we could harness the power of soundcloud rappers, we’d all be better off.

Wiz: But, things aren’t completely peaceful. The record label No Straight Roads, or NSR for short, rules Vinyl City and stifles any sort of music that isn’t EDM. Leading to some dissatisfaction amongst the people.

Boomstick: But we aren’t talking about them! We’re talking about one of the EDM bands that fall under the NSR label: specifically, the robot boy band 1010!

Wiz: 1010 was created by Neon J., a cyborg and a veteran of the “Border War”. Having created 1010 to bring a sense of safety and security to Vinyl City, eventually having been recruited into NSR proper.

Boomstick: And each member is specifically modeled after a stereotypical boyband personality! I knew some of these little shits were made in a factory!

Wiz: Ignoring the weirdness of that statement, despite being created for singing, 1010 is combat capable. Having been at least programmed with the ability to recognize threats to them, and some amount of weaponry on their robotic, mass-produced bodies.

Boomstick: And they’re pretty frickin’ strong to, if we take Mayday and Zuke’s fight with them into consideration! This is a pair of people who managed to do some crazy shit in their previous fights with NSR artists!

Wiz: For example, one of the best considerations for 1010’s scaling is Mayday and Zuke’s battle with DJ Subatomic Supernova. Near the end of their battle, Zuke and Mayday both managed to knock the DJ flying into outer space. Which, the DJ survived, but that’s besides the point. In addition, after the DJ’s head…turned into a black hole for some reason, both Mayday and Zuke managed to outrun it.

Boomstick: And of course, 1010 managed to keep up with Mayday and Zuke…okay, not amazingly, but they could still hold their own. Plus, 1010 has their own speed feat in the way of one of their own attacks. 1010 rises into the sky, and then manages to turn into lightning itself!

Wiz: To put it simply, 1010 is shockingly strong, fast, and durable. And while, of course, they are mass produced and can be replaced by Neon J. once they are destroyed, that obviously will not be in play here. While this is a bit of a unique situation, due to this battle being a five versus one, the battle would if once all five members of 1010 fell. No revives.

Boomstick: Graaaaaanted, a few of those feats do come with a few caveats. The whole ‘launching DJ Subatomic Supernova’ into space thing was Mayday and Zuke’s “Showstopper”. AKA the attack that usually finishes off whatever NSR talent they’re fighting. From the other battles that Mayday and Zuke had, their regular attacks aren’t quite shown to have the same amount of destructive power.

1010 2

Wiz: And in terms of their arsenal, 1010 comes equipped with laser cannons on each of them, and the aforementioned ability to dive bomb their enemies by turning into electricity. As a defensive option, they have a barrier that protects them from pretty much every attack. Unless they are currently attacking, in which case, the barrier will be dropped.

Boomstick: Unfortunately, that is about all 1010 has at their disposal. They were made for singin’, not fightin’ after all. Though it is important to note that Neon J. was a war veteran, and he’s said to take everything in the context of a battle, which apparently pisses some of his fellow NSR talents off. Not to mention that 1010 themselves does stuff like salute, and shout “ATTENTION!” like army soldiers would.

Wiz: Additionally, 1010 is a mass produced, programmed boy band. From what we can tell, they have no real free will or thought process of their own, only doing things that they are explicitly created and told to do by Neon J. The main reasoning for this is when 1010 does their group photo for the crowd; after getting their exoskeletons destroyed…

Boomstick: It, uh, didn’t exactly make their fans happy to see them without their pretty robot faces.

Wiz: Something that likely wouldn’t have happened if 1010 actually had a mind of their own. After all, what celebrity would show their face to their adoring fans when they’re like…that. Now, granted, they do appear to show some sort of artificial intelligence. 1010 was apart of the judging process for Bunk Bed Junction, where they denied Mayday and Zuke, setting them off on their path in the first place. Now, they could have been following what Neon J. told them to do, but it's hard to really say. In general, 1010's intelligence and sentience is debatable

Boomstick: You shouldn’t let that count them out though! Even with their potential weaknesses, scaling to Mayday and Zuke is no joke! While the power of ROCK eventually did destroy their EDM, they certainly didn’t go down without a fight. For being just a buncha fan-cam baiters, they can certainly pack a punch!

Wiz: Indeed. Neon J. created 1010 for one very important purpose: to give Vinyl City hope and light. And as long as 1010 stands strong, the light of Vinyl City will not ever die.

1010 1

1010: Heh, haters gonna hate. When we show up, we get the sexy mission done.

DEATH BATTLE![]

1010 vs Mettaton 2

(Fate/Grand Order - Summer 2018 Shop)

“I hope you’re ready for an unforgettable show tonight, ladies and gentlemen!”

The crowd of the arena roared in excitement as the announcer spoke; the arena packed head to toe with individuals and monsters that recently had moved up from the underground. After all, there was one hell of a performance that was going to be performed for them tonight.

Allllllllllllllright! Let’s give a big round of applause for 10- wait, wha?” The announcer, however, cut themself off as they were speaking. Someone much higher up than them had just informed them of something very dire. “I hope you’re ready for an unforgettable show tonight, ladies and gentlemen!”

“What do you MEAN there was a date mixup!?” The announcer snarled back, frustration clear as the moon in the sky in their voice. “How am I supposed to fix that?! You’re the one who’s supposed to keep track of these things! I was told 1010 would be performing tonight, and-“

“WHAT DO YOU MEAN THEY’RE BOTH WALKING ON STAGE RIGHT NOW!?!??!”

The crowd roared as the two stars walked out onto the dazzling stage. The lights coordinator seemingly very confused as they tried their best to shine lights on both dazzling stars.

And considering one of said “stars” was actually five individuals, it made it even trickier.

1010, the robotic boyband and bringers of Vinyl City’s light, came from the left side of the stage. The lights and pyrotechnics went off as the boy band walked to the center of the stage. Of course, they were not alone either. A fact that both parties noticed as they began to get closer to the center.

Mettaton’s smile shone brightly as he gave his love to the crowd with hearts and kisses, though that quickly began to fade as he noticed five other individuals currently hogging his spotlight.

“Hmmm…I think there appears to be some sort of mixup, darling. This is my show, and I haven’t met a duet partner that can keep up with me since the underground.” Mettaton’s smile returned to him, as he attempted to brush 1010 to the side. He knew what he was told by Alphys, and Alphys was rarely someone who messed up dates. Day based ones, anyway.

“Uh…” The white-haired Rin turned to his other band mates before looking back at the grey and purple-colored Mettaton. “Can’t say we know what you’re talking about, dude. This is the place and time Neon J. told us. Nobody told us anything about you.”

“Ah…” Mettaton’s smile faded as he ran his white, gloved hand through his robotic hair. His uncovered glancing back at 1010 with annoyance. “That’s a problem then. See, there are many fans of mine in this audience, darling. And I’d hate to disappoint them.”

“Hey, can’t say we’re not in the same boat. We got a lot of adoring fans, and ~lovely ladies~, waiting for us to perform. So, it seems like we’re at an impasse.” Rin said, simply shrugging at the problem. They weren’t exactly programmed for something like this after all, their artificial intelligence only getting them so far.

“Ahhhh, I see now!” A lightbulb seemingly lighting up in Mettaton’s head, and a tinge of sarcasm in his voice. “Well, in that case…it’d be best for you to let me take center stage tonight. After all, I can show them what it’s like to be a real star, and not a cheap boy band designed to make teenage girls’ hearts flutter.”

“WHAT DID YOU JUST SAY!?!?”

A young, raspy voice rang out from the crowd, as all eyes were suddenly drawn to a lone man who suddenly stood up from his seat. The sight of a man with a radar screen for a head had stood up, seemingly enraged by Mettaton’s comments.

“YOU DARE INSULT MY TROOPS!? YOU’RE CLEARLY A TALENTLESS HACK WHO DOESN”T KNOW MUSIC WHEN YOU SEE IT!!” The man led into a rant, constantly insulting Mettaton, who could only roll his eyes at the ridiculousness of the situation. When the man seemingly, finally ran out of energy (especially considering whoever’s performance was supposed to be happening was already late), Mettaton responded simply.

“Are you quite satisfied?” In the most annoyed, barely containing a quiet fury Mettaton could muster. He could tolerate a lot of things, but insults, especially false insults, were something he could not abide by.

“STEP ASIDE AND I WILL BE!!” Neon J. fired back, as much anger as a cyborg with a radio scanner for a head could bring. A sigh left Mettaton’s robotic lips as he turned back to 1010 with a smirk.

“So, troops, hm? That’s what's calling you?” Mettaton raised his hand, before closing his eyes and snapping his fingers. The stage seemingly springing to life with a multitude of lights, as well as music seemingly playing out of nowhere. “Well, since we’re at a standstill, and we both seem to have…other proclivities besides show biz…”

Mettaton lowered his hands as his limbs began to move erratically, almost like he was dancing, but 1010 was not entirely unaware of what Mettaton had in mind. They knew a combat stance when they saw one; even one as strange as Mettaton’s.

“Let’s see who the true star is, shall we?”

FIGHT!

(The Adventure Zone - Wonderland Round 3)

Mettaton was the one to make the first move, his glorious legs swinging towards the head of the white-haired Rin, though the bot managed to dodge in time. His black, robotic legs just barely missed their target. Rin, himself did a hilariously dramatic backflip back over to the rest of his band mates as he addressed them.

“Well, boys. Looks like we have a heckler on our hands.” Rin struck a dramatic pose, as the rest of his band mates followed suit in the same way. “Let’s show him why we are chosen to bring Vinyl City light, shall we?”

MARK TARGET! Each member raised their hand forward, a red light gleaming from each of their palms. LOAD AND SHOOT!”

Five red lasers were shot towards Mettaton, each one of the five members firing directly towards their opponent. Mettaton raised his arms to brace for impact, knowing full well he would not be fast enough to dodge them in time. The red lasers quickly collided with Mettaton’s steel arms, the metal swiftly beginning to heat up as they turned red from the impact. Though steam rose from Mettaton’s heated arms, the performer was more than safe.

“Not bad, darlings. Seems you have a bit more firepower than I gave you credit for.” Mettaton smirked as the music in the arena began to swell. The music team having apparently not gotten the memo for what was actually proceeding within the arena. “But I’m afraid you’re not dealing with some run of the mill bot!”

Mettaton’s arms began to extend and stretch as they immediately grabbed onto Rin’s neck, pushing the robotic band member backwards and slamming him into the green-haired Eloni immediately to his right. Causing them both to crash to the stage floor, as the wooden floor cracked and splintered from the weight of having two bodies slammed into it. Though the benefit of this being a five versus one became apparent, as the three remaining band members stuck their hands out once more. Each one firing a red blast of energy towards their opponent, with Mettaton yet again raising his free arm to block the firing squad. A soft sizzling noise was heard as the laser collided with metal yet again.

“You pack quite a bit of fire power, darlings! Which came first? The theatrics, or the weapons? As someone who was in a position like that myself, I must admit to being quite curious!” Mettaton smirked as he conversed with the bot band, his metallic arms still holding down Rin, with Eloni being crushed underneath him.

“H-Heh…” Rin smirked with one closed eye, still being crushed underneath Mettaton’s hand. “We were created…to give Vinyl City light! Nothing more, nothing less! TROOPS, TO THE SKY!”

Mettaton’s eyes went wide as Rin and the rest of his band mates began to glow, his hand recoiling from Rin’s body as he felt a small surge of electricity course throughout his body from his hand. The metallic arm returned back to its original position as suddenly all five members of 1010 turned into a blindingly white light before rising up into the sky.

It was said the thunderclap could be heard for miles outside of the arena.

*CRACK BOOM*

Five lightning bolts all descended upon Mettaton, smashing the wooden stage of the arena to bits and plunged both sets of combatants into the dark underground of the trap room beneath the stage. Though the crowd was currently completely and totally blinded by the bright flash of lightning that had just occurred.

“M-Mettaton…” A small, yellow dinosaur looking creature had tears forming in her eye as she witnessed the scene in front of her. Here Alphys was, excited to see Mettaton perform for the humans, and now all this was happening.

“YES!!! THAT IS WHAT I’M TALKING ABOUT! MY TROOPS NEVER SURRENDER! FIGHT UNTIL THE BITTER END!!!” Of course, Alphys’ own melancholy was interrupted by the deranged shouting of Neon J, the radar-head man far more into this battle than…literally anyone else in the arena.

Well, maybe not everyone.

“…We’ve got cameras down there, don’t we?” An important looking man in a suit and tie whispered to an underpaid stagehand, who merely nodded in response.

“Ugh…” Mettaton groaned as he shook his head, standing up from all the props and other storage that he had crashed into when he was plunged into the trap room. The trap room itself was  very spacious, but also very dark. Not to mention his entire chassis was scuffed and damaged from the electric bombardment he had just suffered. Sparks of electricity jolting off his arms and legs, as he could tell his movement was getting stiffer.

“Come now, I’m sure Alphys installed a night vision on me somewhere…” Mettaton muttered to himself as he tried to get used to his new surroundings. The glitz and glamour of the stage was what he was about, not the dark underground of the stagehands. Granted, Mettaton was granted some amount of light.

The glowing, multicolored eyes of 1010.

“HNGH!” Mettaton was immediately put onto the defensive as the five boyband bots began to completely wail on him, a series of punches and kicks were delivered to Mettaton’s already battered body. And though such rudimentary and simple physical attacks were easy enough for Mettaton to defend against, normally, the volume of having five attackers on him at once began to wear him down.

“Heh.” Rin scoffed as he delivered a roundhouse kick to the right side of Mettaton’s head, causing his head to twist around like a corkscrew. “Sucks being a hater, dude. But it’s showtime for you.”

Each member of 1010 shifted position as they surrounded Mettaton on each side, raising their hands as energy once again began to glow. Planning on finishing this battle here and now.

“Ergh…!” Mettaton growled as he twisted his head back into its proper place, a look of anger and annoyance on his face as he began to shout.

“ENOUGH!” Mettaton braced once again as the lasers fired, his chassis taking heavy fire from the barrage of attacks.

But his star was far from burning out. As the compartment on his chest opened, several round, black objects ejecting from it as they rolled onto the ground with a small clink noise. A new light appeared where each object dropped, the smell of smoke coming from them as well.

“…oh, come on, du-“

*KABOOOOOOOM!!!*

A loud explosion was both heard, felt, and seen as a plume of smoke billowed from the original hole that 1010 and Mettaton had fallen into. In addition to the reverberations felt through the arena, and the sound itself providing yet another sensory annoyance to the audience.

“Oh, come on! Cameras aren’t cheap, y’know!” Not everyone was entirely enthralled by the fight, however.

“COME ON! YOU CAN FIGHT BETTER THAN THAT! SHOW THIS DIVA WHAT YOU’RE MADE OF, MEN!!” Neon J. yet again having no indoor voice as he shouted down towards the hole that the two bots were fighting in, A small chuckle left Mettaton’s lips as he could hear the cyborg’s shouting from all the way down here.

“Well now, seems you have a bit of a fanboy. I suppose if it’s a show he wants, then we need to…light up the place a little bit, wouldn’t you agree?” Mettaton smirked as his chest compartment opened up again, the members of 1010 glancing at each other as they saw the…disco ball? That came out of said chest compartment.

“Let’s see how well you can dance, darlings!” The disco ball was thrown up into the air as it seemingly turned on, a white and blue coloration lighting up the room.

“Uhhh…I appreciate the lightshow, dude, but-“ The disco ball seemingly springing to life interrupted Rin, blue and white thin spotlights of sorts emitting from the disco ball, the colors alternating from blue to white in a circular pattern. Each spotlight shining between each member of 1010, two white and three blue.

“It’s showtime!” With a smirk and a snap of his fingers, the disco ball began to move. The ball itself rotated as it immediately turned, taking it’s light along with it. None of 1010 reacted, of course, more confused than anything. What was the point of summoning a disco ball?

(Undertale - Death by Glamour)

The confusion stopped once two of their members shouted out in pain.

The yellow-haired Haym and the blue-haired Purl-Hew had a sear mark across their chests as their robotic metal sizzled from the heat of the white light that just passed through them, a cocky smirk coming across Mettaton’s face realization set upon 1010’s.

“Well? You’ll never match me if you can’t keep up your footwork, darlings!” The disco ball continued to rotate as each member of 1010 suddenly got the gist of what exactly they were up against, deftly moving away from the beams of light as they rotated around.

“Ah, just a bit too slow!” However, they also had Mettaton to contend with as the showman robot also showed off his “dance moves”, which primarily consisted of launching a volley of kicks with his beautiful legs towards the members of 1010. Such an onslaught was proving to be problematic for the band as they also had to focus on the lights shining down upon them, needing to put all their processing power into dodging lights, and dodging or blocking kicks. Unfortunately, however, one member was just a bit too slow in dodging a kick.

*SCHIIIING-CLANK*

A well-timed kick to the chest of the blue-haired Perl-Hew sent him straight into the thin, blue spotlight of the disco ball. The light passed through his robotic neck as his own light faded from his eyes, his head becoming severed from his body as the metal head hit the floor, and his body crumpling soon after.

“Gh…! Not cool, dude!” Rin shouted as he and his band continued to dodge the lights and Mettaton’s attacks, no time to mourn his band mate’s death. MEN, defensive measures!”

Mettaton raised his leg to deliver a heeled boot to the face of Rin, however, his foot only came into contact with a purple barrier. Blocking his kick the moment it collided, as Mettaton watched the light pass right by him as well, harmlessly passing by Rin and the rest of 1010.

“Heh, you like? It’s a completely perfect barrier; blocks everything.” Rin smirked as Mettaton had a deeply annoyed look on his face. No barrier was perfect, after all, there had to be some way to get through it. “Now, let’s bring down the house on your little light show, shall we? FIRE!”

Mettaton heard the charging of one of 1010’s lasers, as he turned his head around to see the red-haired Zimelu with a red glow around his hand, aimed at Mettaton’s disco ball. Mettaton rushed him down, his barrier faded and open to an attack, as he extended his arm to grab onto Zimelu’s robo-throat. Though the blast fired far before Mettaton’s arm reached Zimelu, his disco ball shattered as soon as the red laser connected with it, even if he did manage to grab onto Zimelu in the end. The light in the dark room fading yet again with the disco ball’s destruction.

(No Straight Roads - vs. 1010)

Except for the glowing eyes of the four surviving 1010 members.

While Mettaton still held onto Zimelu, tightening his grip in order to sever the wires located in the band member’s neck, there were still three other members of 1010 to deal with. A fact that Mettaton was reminded of as he heard the charging of 1010’s laser, his head craning back around and his eyes wide as two thin, purple lasers were currently heading in his direction. Hitting him square in the back as steam rose from the wound where the laser had hit, causing him to drop Zimelu in pain.

“Alright, boys.” Rin spoke as his purple shield reappeared, preventing Mettaton from launching any sort of counterattack. “Let’s wrap this party up, shall we?”

A blow to the head there, a laser to the chest here. 1010 continued their onslaught onto Mettaton, giving him everything they had between their laser blasts and physical hand to hand combat. While Mettaton could normally easily counter such basic attacks, the number advantage combined with the fact that they would raise their barrier after every strike meant that there were scant few opportunities for Mettaton to deal with them.

He could, however, distract them.

While he was being attacked, his chest opened up yet again, as a swarm of mini-cube-Mettatons poured out and began to swarm the bandmates currently attacking.

“Huh? What are-“

*BZZZZZZZT*

The green-haired Eloni was interrupted during a laser charge, as the mini-Mettaton surrounded him and started attaching themselves to his body. Heart shaped projectiles seemingly coming out of the minions and entering his body, causing the bot’s eye lights to flicker and his body to vibrate and spark. The attack on their fellow bandmates proving an adequate way for them to stop their assault, and for Mettaton to leap out of the dark room they had been trapped in for most of the fight and back onto the stage.

The energy that powered Eloni seemingly vanished from his body shortly after Mettaton had left as well.

Though the sight that the audience was greeted with upon Mettaton’s return wasn’t that a triumphant victor, but a badly damaged combatant who desperately needed even a moment to recover. His body sparking and smoke emitting from his joints from the damage he took from the battle down below.

*SKRKSKSBOOM!*

However, his body had seemingly taken too much damage, as his arms exploded into scrap metal, His face wincing from the pain, before he looked over the worried crowd. His wince turned into a smile as he shakily stood up, circuits and wires sticking out of the exposed holes where his arms used to be.

“With legs like these, who really needs arms?” Mettaton smiled as his chest opened yet again, as more bombs spilled out. Giving them a gentle nudge with his boot so that they all fell into the hole, hoping to end this battle once and for all.

*KABOOM!*

The explosion was heard and felt as the arena shook, Mettaton having a smile on his face as he limped towards the backstage, needing to get some rest before he got back to the stage for his proper debut.

*CRACKBOOM!!!*

Lightning struck twice tonight. As the audience was yet again blinded by a flash of lightning, as three orbs of electricity quickly emerged from the hole and just as quickly descended upon Mettaton with a terrifying kaboom. Mettaton was brought to one knee from the force of the attack, as his other leg had been destroyed in the blast as well. His head turning back to face his attackers, his brow narrowed but a look of surprise on his face as he saw what was there.

The crowd shrieked as well when they saw the “pretty boys” of 1010, their metal skin having been blasted off their bodies, leaving only a horrifying circuit board shaped in the form of a head.

“wE salUTE yOu!” Their voices were garbled and near incomprehensible as it seemed like their AI was glitched beyond repair. Their body damaged and mangled, but still operational as they attempted to fulfill their programmed responsibilities: provide entertainment and defend themselves. “yoU hAve pUt ON a gReAT shoW! BuT yoUR spoTlIGht eNDs hErE!”

A sigh left Mettaton’s lips. There was one thing he didn’t want to do: one last ace in the hole. He wanted to be an entertainer, not his previous reason for creation. He managed to stand himself up, leaning up against a nearby wall as he looked back at the beaten and battered performers.

“You know, I wasn’t always destined to be a star. I was once given similar capabilities to you, in terms of being an instrument for combat.” Sparks flew off of Mettaton as he spoke, a slight glow coming from his chest. “Let me show you the power of a human eradication robot!!”

A bright white light flashed the arena as Mettaton was engulfed in light, the shifting of metal and the sound of electricity was heard as Mettaton began to transform. The light eventually faded as Mettaton stood there, a completely different aura and atmosphere filling the room. His metal body was much more like combat armor, and his arms and legs had reappeared as well. Though his right arm was replaced by a cannon of sorts. His hair was much spikier as well, as spotlights also streamed down from his armor.

Mettaton NEO took the stage.

“MEn! OPeN fI-“ Rin shouted through his garbled voice, but Mettaton near instantly blitzed right towards the yellow-haired Haym, turning him instantly into scrap metal as his body was slammed into the floorboards and rammed across the floor by a currently flying Mettaton. Jet fire coming out of his boots as he hovered over the mangled body of Haym, taking to the sky in preparation for the remaining two members’ next attack.

“Flying suits me pretty well, don’t you think?” Mettaton smiled as he watched the remaining Rin and Zimelu charge their attacks. Apparently far too damaged to recognize their fallen comrade, and merely opting to follow through with another laser strike. Though Mettaton had no intention of simply taking the attack again this time. Especially if they would simply erect their barriers after attacking.

“I suppose a good showman must strike while the iron is hot, as they say.” Mettaton said as he raised his cannon arm, aiming it at Zimelu and charging it at the same time as 1010. “Smile, darlings. It’s closing night.”

The three sets of energy blasts were fired, as Mettaton’s laser cannon blasted through Zimelu’s shot, and blew a hole through the robot’s chest as his lights flickered, before falling to the floor with a thud. Though Rin’s attack still hit its mark, as Mettaton recoiled and hissed in pain, a small hole having formed with the laser struck.

“V-V-V-V-V-VinYL ciTY sHaLL nEvvvvvvvvvvvvvvER DiE!!” Rin shouted, some minor amount of realization, as much as an AI could anyway, coming over him as he began to crackle and spark, planning on using one of the few moves he had at his disposable that could actually harm Mettaton NEO. A small chuckle left  Mettaton’s metal lips as well, as he prepared for the incoming strike. His left arm became a sword as both of them knew this last clash would be their last.

“If all of Vinyl City’s finest are as strong as you, darling, I’m sure your home will be just fine.” Rin transformed into an orb of electricity as he barreled towards the flying Metton, who braced for impact as Rin’s electric form collided into him. Electricity coursed throughout Mettaton’s entire body as he felt the pain as one would expect when you’re being shocked to your literal core, a fact that’s made even worse for someone who’s made of wires and circuitry.

But as soon as Rin’s lightning strike ended, Mettaton made his move.

*SCHWING*

The cut was clean, as Mettaton breathed in and out haggardly. Rin cut in twain horizontally at the waist as the LED lights in his eyes fluttered before going completely dark. The two halves of his body hit  the stage with a thud and a crack. The sigh of relief that Mettaton could hear Alphys let out somehow cutting through the loud screaming Neon J. was involved in as he mourned his troops.

The sound of his jet boots diminished as he became closer to the stage, before landing and the sound ending completely. He looked upon the crowd, who were waiting for him to say literally anything after all that had just occurred. A star must never let his smile fade.

“Apologies for the delay, my lovely fans!”

KO!

Conclusion[]

(Undertale - Metal Crusher)

Boomstick:…y’know, does it really count as a death if both combatants can just be rebuilt?

Wiz: That requires an intricate philosophical discussion that I am absolutely not having with you.

Boomstick: Oh….wait, why not!?

Wiz: In any case, this battle was shockingly complex to figure out a true victor for. Each combatant had a lot going for them. And due to how the Undertale universe works, it was hard to justify giving Mettaton the same level of attack power as his durability, as while Mettaton has shown to be able to take some serious hits, there isn’t much showing he’s capable of the same destructive capabilities.

Boomstick: The best thing Mettaton has is being able to be compared to Knight Knight’s meteor shower attack which, while impressive, doesn’t put him on the same level of 1010, who scales to Mayday and Zuke’s feat of launching DJ Subatomic Supernova into space.

Wiz: And speaking of Mayday and Zuke, 1010 scaling to them outrunning a black hole also eclipses Mettaton’s own speed, where the greatest feat he has is being able to dodge Frisk’s bullets.

Boomstick: However, the problem comes down to those advantages being all 1010 actually had over Mettaton. The stat differences weren’t massive by any means either. It did mean that Mettaon wasn’t going to be dodging any of 1010’s attacks, but with his durability, he kind of didn’t have to.

Wiz: It should be noted that while it looks…well, cool, Mettaton NEO was not a factor in Mettaton’s calculations. While we can make a lot of assumptions about the form; it notably having some of the strongest attack power out of any monster in the underground for example. NEO just didn’t do enough for it to be worth taking into consideration.

Boomstick: However, as it turns out, Mettaton really just didn’t need NEO to compete and defeat 1010. 1010 scaled to Mayday and Zuke in a lot of ways, but they only needed a few attacks to bring a single member of 1010 down, not even their showstopper attack. The issue for them came down to Neon J. piloting a floating factory of the damn things!

Wiz: Which, of course, would not be applicable in Death Battle. And even if Mettaton is not strong enough to deal with a member of 1010 that easily, enough wear and tear can give him the results he needed. Which he definitely had the time to do, considering his own durability easily outclasses 1010’s attack power.

Boomstick: The biggest problems that 1010 had in this fight were pretty simple. Because their powerset is simple. Get it?

Wiz: While I hate to agree with a “joke” that bad…yes. Mettaton had far greater diversity in his attacks, between his mini-Mettatons, his disco ball, his bombs, and his own arms and legs. Compare that to 1010 who fought solely through turning themselves into lightning strikes, and their lasers. 1010 would consistently get predictable, while Mettaton had a lot more tricks up his sleeve to keep 1010 on their toes.

Boomstick: Not to mention that Mettaton was waaaaaaaaaaaay more experienced and intelligent than 1010 was. Mettaton’s robo-body was designed to be a human eradication robot, and yeah, Neon J. is a bit of a…war nut, but 1010 was designed to provide energy for Vinyl City through music.

Wiz: Mettaton also had one very important factor: a SOUL. Mettaton was originally a ghost that Alphys met and became a showbiz robot through Alphys’ inventions. 1010 was created by Neon J. Meaning that one was a thinking, feeling being underneath that robot chassis, while the other was programmed to do what they do. Mettaton could plan and strategize, while 1010 lacked that completely.

Boomstick: I mean, it’s for the better probably. I don’t want a ***in’ boyband to go all HAL 3000 on us.

Wiz: 1010 put up a truly admirable fight against Mettaton. But in the end, stars don’t like sharing a spotlight. And Mettaton showed that shine with the best of them through versatility, experience, and some sick dance moves.

Boomstick: There was no straight road to victory for 1010; guess they just met-a-ton of things they couldn’t handle!

Wiz: The Winner is Mettaton.

If Mettaton Wins
