Fenris vs. Ralph is a What-If? Death Battle by I'm Lynda. It features Fenris from the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and Ralph the Wolf from 2018 movie, Rampage.

Description[]

It’s a dog-eat-dog world, when we bring together two of the biggest wolf-stars of the silver screen!

Interlude[]

Boomstick: Fenris, the massive, magical wolf of the MCU.

Wiz: And Ralph, the massive, mutated wolf of the 2018 movie, Rampage.

Boomstick: Two giant wolves that really know how to tear things up.

Wiz: I’m Wiz, and he’s Boomstick.

Boomstick: And it's our job to analyze their weapons, armor and skills to find out who would win a Death Battle.

Fenris[]

Wiz: Millennia ago, during the beginning of the reign of Odin Allfather, his daughter Hela served as his most trusted lieutenant. She was his personal executioner, and the commander of his army.

Boomstick: And Hela’s faithful companion was the biggest and baddest wolf that the Nine Realms had ever seen: Fenris the Asgardian wolf. She served as her mount and as her muscle.

Wiz: Fenris stands some 20-feet or 6.1 meters tall, is some 66-feet or 20-meters long, and weighs in at somewhere between 30 to 60 tons – Imperial or metric, her weight is just not precisely known.

Boomstick: Hela and Fenris cut a swath through the Nine Realms, leaving a trail of death and destruction that even Odin in his acquisitive phase couldn’t stomach. So, to finally put a stop to the two, Odin banished Hela to Hel, the land of the dead, and he buried Fenris and Hela’s Berserker warriors in the catacombs beneath his Vault, beneath the Royal Palace of Valaskjalf.

Wiz: The Nine Realms eventually forgot about Hela and Fenris, but when Odin finally died, the power holding Hela in Hel disappeared. She returned to Asgard, broke open Odin's Vault, and used the Eternal Flame to reanimate Fenris and the Berserkers. The Berserkers came back apparently as undead soldiers, but Fenris looked just as alive and as deadly as she ever did.

Boomstick: Hela used Fenris and the Berserkers to control the Asgardian population, freeing Hela up to deal with other problems, such as her half-brother, Thor. And, everything seemed to go well until Thor and Heimdall worked up a scheme to rescue the Asgardians. Fenris and the Berserkers moved to deal with the civilians, until the heroes showed up.

Wiz: Brunnhilde, the last surviving Valkyrie, fired a large machinegun at the wolf, but it appeared to have little effect. The Asgardians seemed doomed, until another hero intervened, the Incredible Hulk. The Hulk stopped Fenris's charge, by grabbing ahold of her tail and dragging her backward.

Boomstick: The two then began an epic fight, with Fenris giving as good as she got. However, the Hulk's amazing strength allowed him to throw Fenris, even though she was so much larger than he was. And eventually he succeeded in punching her right over the ice-barrier that surrounded Asgard, dropping her into the void between realms. Is she dead? Who knows?

Wiz: Fenris is one of the most feared creatures in the Nine Realms of reality, even scaring the great Heimdall, the all-seeing gatekeeper of Asgard. She is ferocious and extremely aggressive, not fearing to attack any opponent that she faced.

Boomstick: She is very large and very powerful. When she ran along the Rainbow Bridge, the Bridge noticeably cracked beneath her paws. And, when she fought the Hulk, she had no problem lifting him and shaking him like a dog with a squeaky toy.

Wiz: Even more importantly, she was able to bite through the Green Goliath's nearly impenetrable skin, making him bleed. Only *one* other creature in the MCU succeeded in doing that, and that was Abomination.

Boomstick: Another power of this creature is its ability to tank and/or regenerate damage. She not only got shot with a space canon, but she took a beating from the Hulk without showing the effects of any actual damage. This is all the more impressive when you realize that he did show the effects of actual damage!

Wiz: She’s also inordinately fast, being able to keep up with the attacks of the Hulk, even though he was so much smaller than her. And, when she was pursuing the fleeing Asgardians, she easily outpaced Hela’s Berserkers, leaving them far behind.

Boomstick: Yeah, she’s tough, perhaps the toughest opponent that the Hulk ever fought. This paws-itively makes her a very dangerous opponent indeed!

Ralph[]

Wiz: Energyne Corporation's bioengineers had a terrific idea, to cure disease through the use of a pathogen that would rewrite the DNA of a beneficiary, writing out the diseases. However, the corporation soon saw a way to weaponize this pathogen by using to create super-large and super-aggressive animals, calling it Project Rampage. They created their own space station to work with in, so that the pathogen could not accidentally be released.

Boomstick: The project was advancing rapidly, indeed too rapidly, when a lab rat mutated and got lose and began tearing up the station. Eventually the whole place disintegrated spreading debris across North America, and among the debris were three canisters of the pathogen. Well, apparently it was one of those "it seemed like a good idea at the time," type scenarios.

Wiz: One of the canisters landed in a forest in Wyoming, where its sinister contents were inhaled by a wild wolf. The wolf quickly mutated, becoming a 45-foot or13.75 meter tall, 85-foot or 26 meter long monster that weighed in at some 13 and a half tons.

Boomstick: Yeah, that's a lot of pooch. Energyne sent a mercenary team to capture the wolf, but the creature was so fast and aggressive that it quickly destroyed the team, literally devouring all of the members.

Wiz: Energyne had a backup plan, in which they baited the monsters that they had created to Chicago, where they could destroy them. This resulted in a battle royale, when the wolf, Ralph, faced off against a mutated gorilla and a mutated alligator, as well as the U.S. Military.

Boomstick: The human weapons had very little effect, but things really got heated when the monsters went toe-to-toe with each other. Sadly for him, Ralph was the first to go down, when his head was bitten off by the giant alligator, named Lizzie.

Wiz: Being of gigantic size, Ralph demonstrates some gigantic strength. For example, he was able to run through the middle of a Chicago office building without being noticeably slowed, and when he fought the giant ape, George, he was actually able to demonstrate that he was at least as strong as the ape.

Boomstick: He has durability in buckets, being able to withstand everything that the Army could throw at him, including machine gun fire, grenades and missiles, and even a massive explosion that created a crater around him. At least some of this is due to a regeneration factor given to him by the pathogen. But, that having been said, Ralph is not invincible. When he went up against Lizzie, a mutated alligator that was even larger than himself, Ralph quite literally lost his head!

Wiz: He is fast moving for his size. When he was being hunted by Energyne's mercenary company, he had no trouble moving quickly through the forest, repeatedly attacking the mercs from unexpected directions. In fact, during the battle in Chicago, he was able to climb a perfectly vertical skyscraper, which was no mean feat.

Boomstick: He also has something of an ace up his sleeve in that he can glide, like a gigantic flying squirrel. He used this ability to attack a helicopter, and when he was thrown by George, the giant gorilla, he was able to turn it around and fly right back at the big guy.

Wiz: And, another surprise he has is that he can spout spikes on his back and tail, and even throw them as projectiles. He is so accurate with these spikes that he was able to use them to take out a helicopter that was flying nearby.

Boomstick: So, when you hear about the "big, bad wolf," chances are you're hearing about Ralph. Call him the "Jurassic Bark!"

Intermission[]

Wiz: Alright the combatants are set; let’s end this debate once and for all.

Boomstick: It's time for a DEATH BATTLE!

DEATH BATTLE![]

Pre-Fight[]

The morning air was cold and still, a mist hung heavily among the trees shrouding the distant Wyoming countryside behind a curtain of white.

The giant wolf sniffed the air. There was an intruder nearby; it's scent drifting with the fog. The wolf pulled his lips back and growled. Then, it threw its head back and howled, its monstrous voice shaking the trees around it.

There was an answering howl, the other wolf voicing its acceptance of the challenge.

Ralph slunk forward, his head down as he looked from left to right. Then, he threw his head back and howled again. Again, an answering howl was flung back at him, only this time it was much closer.

Suddenly, like a ghost, a giant black wolf began to materialize out of the mist. It was about half Ralph's size; it stood looking up at him with eerily glowing green eyes. It pulled its lips back, exposing its fangs as it growled up at him.

Ralph sniffed the other wolf's scent, and found that it was a female. Familiar hormones began to surge through his body, feelings he had not felt since his transformation. This was an opportunity too good to pass up.

Keeping his eyes locked on Fenris's he slunk forward slowly, nearly noiselessly. His giant nostrils drank in her pheromones like they were a fine wine.

Fenris's growl grew louder and louder. She knew what this male wanted, and she was having none of it. She leaped forward, her mighty jaws snapping at Ralph's face.

Ralph leaped backward and studied the she-wolf, confused by her reaction. Perhaps it was not her season. He put his head down, and slunk to the side of Fenris, looking to slip in behind her.

Fenris's eyes narrowed. This creature before her was not of her kind. He reeked of Midgard. He was not a potential mate to her; he was an opponent to be put down.

Again, she leaped forward, this time her jaws clamped down on his neck.

Ralph yelped and rolled to the side, throwing her off. He leaped back, and spun, keeping his vulnerable hindquarters away from her. This female was not responding to his advances as he had expected, instead she was showing a formidable streak of aggression.

His lust thwarted, Ralph frustration turned to fury. The she-wolf was an opponent, an intruder in his forest, an opponent to be dealt with.

Keeping his head lowered, Ralph bared his fangs. This would be a fight to the death.

FIGHT![]

The two wolves lunged at each other, snapping their teeth with the sound of thunderclaps.

Ralph, standing twice as tall as his opponent, snapped down, while Fenris snapped up. But, far from being intimidated, Fenris snarled and moved forward. Suddenly, she lunged forward, slipping beneath Ralph’s legs, and bighting at his stomach.

Yelping in surprise, Ralph leaped up, and planting his feet on Fenris’s back, threw himself forward. Fenris turned after the other wolf, and was surprised when Ralph extended the membrane from between his fore and back limbs and turned the leap into a flight. He turned in a tight loop and came flying back towards his opponent.

The two gigantic creatures collided, with Ralph turning a somersault and leaping to his feet.

The two monstrous wolves faced each other again, looking for weaknesses or signs of surrender. They growled, and slowly began to circle each other.

Suddenly, Fenris leaped forward, passing to Ralph's left side, snapping at his legs as she passed. Ralph danced sideways, seeking to keep the she-wolf from getting behind him. She kept moving to his left, so he turned to keep his fangs toward her.

Fenris moved too fast, so suddenly Ralph spun to his right and then leaped forward. The collision caused the monsters to roll over, biting and kicking at each other.

Ralph's jaws locked on Fenris's shoulder, and he bit down as hard as he could. The she-wolf's flesh was hard as stone, and what should have been a crippling bite produced little result.

Fenris snarled and then rolled, throwing Ralph off of her. She then leaped to her feet and again confronted the huge male.

Ralph had also leaped to his feet, and he studied the other wolf. She wasn't crippled, but he did taste blood. It merely whetted his appetite for more.

Ralph suddenly charged at Fenris, his mouth wide, baring his massive teeth. Fenris danced sideways and turned her teeth towards him. As he barreled past her, she ran alongside of him, her teeth snapping as she tried to connect with his neck. The two monsters ran side-by-side at first, but Ralph's longer legs caused him to pull farther and farther ahead.

Suddenly, Fenris deviated to the left, and bounded off of a giant boulder. She flew through the air, descending towards Ralph's back.

Ralph's head went down, and he tensed his body, lifting up the spines that ran from the back of his head to the tip of his tail. Fenris landed on the spikes, and let out a roar of pain. She rolled off him, and then leaped to her feet.

Turning his run into a turn, he maneuvered back, aimed straight towards his opponent. She was likely injured, so he moved quickly to capitalize on his advantage. He charged in and opened his mouth, looking to grab ahold of her neck.

The she-wolf danced sideways, moving her hindquarters away from him and keeping her teeth pointed towards his. As he ran past, Fenris shot forward, bringing her head down. She grabbed onto his right rear foot, beneath the hock, and bit down. The sudden pull, stopped Ralph in mid-stride, causing him to crash to the ground.

Fenris bit down even harder, jerking her head from left to right. She could hear the sound of the bones breaking, and tasted blood on her tongue.

Ralph pushed with all his might, throwing himself up and over the other wolf, and causing her to lose her balance and roll beneath him. She lost her grip on his foot.

Ralph tried to run from the female, but his broken leg slowed his movement. He realized that he would never escape the female, so he turned to face her.

Fenris lowered her head and growled. Then, she began to slowly advance towards him, her glowing green eyes blazing hungrily.

Suddenly, Ralph turned, extending his spines. He swung his tail, and fired a barrage of spines that flew through the air and right into her face. Fenris yelped in surprise and began tearing at the spines that had penetrated her muzzle.

Seizing on her distraction, Ralph leaped forward, into the she-wolf, biting at her neck and shoulder. Again, he encountered the stone-like flesh.

Not backing away, Fenris used her smaller size, shoving herself under Ralph. He again danced sideways, protecting he back end, but Fenris turned herself and seized his right foreleg.

Feeling the grip tighten, Ralph yelled and pulled, trying to wrench the leg from the she-wolf's jaws, but he could not get it free. Fenris viciously jerked her head back and forth, breaking bones and causing the giant wolf's blood to flow freely.

Ralph fought furiously to free his foreleg, as Fenris jerked her head faster and harder. Finally, the arm severed, and Ralph collapsed onto his right side.

As he fell, Ralph again swung his tail and fired another group of spines at his opponent. Fenris lowered her head, allowing the spines to strike her back.

Ralph writhed on the ground, as if willing his shattered limbs to return to full health. He snarled and snapped his teeth at the other wolf, determined to win by any means.

Fenris lunged forward, and seized Ralph’s throat in her powerful jaws.

Ralph went still in submission; his life or death now at the other wolf’s mercies.

Fenris hesitated for a moment, and then she bit down and tore Ralph’s throat away.

Ralph’s life-blood arching into the cold Wyoming air.

He writhed in agony on the forest floor, and then went still.

K.O.! []

The rainbow colors of Bifrost flashed more brightly than the morning sun, and when they passed, they revealed the goddess Hela.

Hela walked up to the giant wolf, reached up, and pulled a spear-like spin out of Fenris’s cheek.

“Playing with your food again?” she asked whimsically. “That’s my girl!”

Results[]

Boomstick: Oh! Ew! What a way to go! [Opens a can of beer and takes a drink.]

Wiz: Yeah, our ancestors feared wolves for a reason. In this battle, the combatants were simply not very well balanced.

Boomstick: This fight, like many Death Battles, hinged on two things, the combatants' abilities to take damage and to dish it out. And, in fact Fenris was stronger in both abilities.

Wiz: Ralph was able to take hits from the United States Army without showing much damage. And, his greatest feat was definitely his riding down a collapsing Sears Tower down, all the way to the ground.

Boomstick: However, Ralph's durability is called into question by the fact that the Rampage monster, Lizzie, was able to grab Ralph and quite quickly bite his head off.

Wiz: Fenris, on the other hand, was able to take punches from the Hulk, without showing any pain. And this was just before the Hulk staggered the mountainous fire demon, Surtur, cracking his crown with his punches. And, when it comes to piercing damage, such as that inflicted with teeth, Fenris simply ignored the fire of a Gatling gun from a spaceship, while Fenris was forced to hide under a bridge to avoid the fire from the Gatling gun of a U.S. Army A-10 Warthog.

Boomstick: And, it has been argued that Fenris might not have really been alive. When Hela resurrected her Berserkers, they certainly appeared to be some sort of undead zombies, so its not unlikely that Fenris was in the same state. Therefore there's a question as to whether or not Fenris could even be killed.

Wiz: When it comes to dishing out damage, her bite force was so great that the Hulk had trouble holding her jaws open. And, when she did succeed in biting the Hulk, she was able to break his skin and cause him to bleed. In all of the fights that the Hulk took part in in the MCU, only Fenris and Abomination were able to do that. That's an impressive feat. Ralph's combat feats simply do not stack up to that level.

Boomstick: And also, there is a question of combat experience. Ralph probably had a few years experience of living in the wild as a normal wolf, but very little after he was mutated into a giant monster. Fenris, on the other hand, served as Hela's companion and mount in all of her years of battle, expanding Asgard's empire across the Nine Realms.

Wiz: So, while Ralph had the edge on size, Fenris had the edge when it came to the ability to fighting ability and the abilities to take damage and dish out.

Boomstick: The idea that Ralph could have won was just, howl-arious!

Wiz: The winner is Fenris.
