Erza Scarlet[]
Wiz: Growing up in the peaceful Rosemary Village, Erza’s childhood was rather normal, for the most part. Though she was without a mother, Erza lived a happy life with the other children. That is, until cultists who worshipped the Dark Mage Zeref, came into the town, slaughtered all the adults, burned the village to the ground and kidnapped all of the children, forcing them into slavery.
Boomstick: That went from zero to one hundred real fast! And it didn’t get much better for the young Erza, as she and all of her friends were forced to build the Tower of Heaven, a monolithic structure meant to herald the resurrection of big, bad Zeref. Who wasn’t actually all that bad, but that’s a story for another day.
Wiz: Connecting further with her fellow captive children, Erza would come to know one Jellal Fernandez, who would inspire her, and the rest of the children to fight back and free themselves from slavery. Giving Erza her last name Scarlet, after her hair, Erza was similarly motivated to break free, but while successful in the end, it had some rather unfortunate consequences.
Boomstick: Their escape plan wasn’t one hundred percent airtight, and Erza ended up getting captured during the rebellion attempt. Most of her friends got away, but she was brutally tortured, so much so that she even lost her right eye. But this only ignited her rage further, allowing her to unlock her latent magical abilities.
Wiz: Though after these horrific events, Erza’s life would change for the better. Washing up on the shores of Fiore, Erza found her way to the magic guild, Fairy Tail, which she would join as a mage using her newfound magic, and receive a fairy insignia on her left arm as a symbol of her acceptance into the guild. Also integrating armour as part of her everyday attire, and replacing her missing eye with an artificial one, Erza had started to move on from the tragic event which shaped her early life.
Popup: Erza’s artificial eye allows her to see through, and be immune to Illusion Magic and Petrification. Erza is also a bit socially awkward and was initially insecure without wearing armour. She has since moved past this with the advent of her Clear Heart Clothing.
Boomstick: And Erza’s new life with the Fairy Tail guild helped her hone her Requip magic, which allows her to change her armour and clothing on the fly. Along with weapons, too, which would definitely come in handy all of the time. Never having to get up to change and having anything you need readily available and on command? The ideal magic, if I’ve ever heard it. Ooh, Wiz! Do you think it’d work on beer as well?
Wiz: Possibly. Erza’s Requip ability lets her become a walking armoury with access to all of the weapons and outfits at her disposal. She can call upon swords, axes, lances, javelins, maces, bows, shields, staves, claws, short swords, knives, hammers, you name it, she’s got it. But Erza’s magic really shines when it comes to her armours. Possessing over one hundred sets of armour suited for combat, Erza is nothing short of astounding when it comes to versatility, and with an outfit for every situation, it’s difficult to catch her off-guard.
Boomstick: She normally wears her Heart Kruez armour, which has no special qualities outside of average protection, but it’s comfy enough for everyday wear. And her Heaven’s Wheel Armour gives her flight and levitation, along with a butt-load of swords directly at her command. Erza can send swords flying in any direction she wants and is able to telekinetically control them, along with any weapon she commands.
Popup: Erza’s telekinesis is not restricted to her Heaven’s Wheel Armour, as she has showcased use of the ability outside of this armour, namely when she unlocked her magic, and when she dons the Ataraxia Armour, but it is most frequently seen when Erza is in her Heaven’s Wheel Armour.
Wiz: Similarly, the Black Wing Armour also grants Erza flight capabilities, though it focuses more on close-range offense and swordplay, using its inherent speed for swift strikes. Erza is also able to conduct the elements of Electricity, Fire, and Water with her Lighting Empress, Flame Empress, and Sea Empress armours, respectively. They also give her increased resistances to elemental attacks of the same nature.
Boomstick: Erza also has some nifty armours meant to bypass her enemies’ guards, such as the Piercing Armour, which is extra-effective against opponents with solid defence, and her Wingblade Armour, which uses magical swords that to circle and surround an enemy, and can even cut opponents without having to make direct contact!
Wiz: Another armour under Erza’s command is the Purgatory Armour, which no opponent has survived a fight with, and her Morning Star Armour gives her control over light and energy blasts. The Flight Armour grants Erza access to claws and high-speed movement, and the Wind God Armour allows for command over wind magic. Not to mention her Robe of Yūen, which is elastic, and protects Erza from binding and reflecting attacks.
Boomstick: She’s also got the Celestial Armour, which gives her access to Heavenly Body magic, and the Ataraxia Armour, which lets her use multiple Wingblade swords in conjunction with each other. The strangely named Red-Black Twin Blades Armour allows Erza to use two blades in a bunny girl outfit - don’t question it - and the Giant Armour gives her a massive lance which she has used to shatter a small fake moon.
Wiz: Though she mainly focuses on offense, Erza is no slouch when it comes to defence either, as her Adamantine Armour has allowed her to survive a city-busting blast from the Jupiter Cannon. And if Erza wishes to go for an all-out offensive, there’s no better armour than her Clear Heart Clothing. Instead of protecting her like her normal outfits, the Clear Heart, or Bandage Clothing, focuses all of her magical energy into strength and speed, or her swords, as Erza forsakes all defence for pure, unbridled might.
Boomstick: I’ll say! Though she leaves herself open for attack, the trade-off is more than worth it, like when she used the armour to cut up this giant meteor! And Erza still has outfits just as strong as that! Like her Armadura Fairy Armour, which was able to shatter an entire island in one strike! But there is one armour that surpasses the Armadura Fairy, the Nakagami Armour.
Wiz: Arming herself with the Nakagami Armour is a situation of risk vs. reward. With the Nakagami, Erza is capable of dispelling magic, and can cut through space like a hot knife through butter, but it comes at the cost of requiring vast magic power to operate at all times, and Erza was only able to don the armour after unlocking her Second Origin, which gives her access to a second source of magic to draw from.
Popup: Erza also has access to a synthetic magical steed, Miniature Communication Lacrima, the Sacred Phoenix Arrow, which is imbued with Dispel, and the Holy Hammer, which, besides being used for offense and defence, protects the wielder from manipulation of the mind, one’s memory, and matter.
Boomstick: So it’s a bit draining on her magic, but it’s not like Erza doesn’t have a whole bunch of it in the first place! She was able to fight off and slay 100 monsters in a short time, all while using her magic and chopping and changing between armours on the fly, even combining parts of them at some points! And her endurance is crazy, since Erza has been able to fight for several hours on end without tiring, and can endure 200 lighting strikes from Laxus’ Thunder Palace technique, and just one shot from one of those things can nearly kill a person, and she just kept on trucking! She didn’t even have any magic to protect her, or the Lighting Empress Armour on at the time!
Wiz: With hard work and determination, Erza worked her way up to being an S-Class mage, on the same level as fellow Fairy Tail members, Laxus and Mirajane. Eventually, Erza would come to join Team Natsu with Natsu Dragneel, Lucy Heartfilia, Happy and Gray Fullbuster, forming bonds that would serve her for life. Erza came to rely on her friends, as they relied on her, and together, they formed an unstoppable team.
Boomstick: But even fighting solo, Erza has accomplished some pretty incredible feats, such as taking down Ikaruga of Death Head’s Caucus and Kagura Mikazuchi of the Mermaid’s Heel guild. Hell, Erza was able to beat an alternate version of herself, Erza Knightwalker, and Azuma of the Seven Kin of Purgatory, plus this demon chick named Kyôka, and then Kyôka, Azuma, and Ikaruga all at the same time! Plus, she fights on par with Natsu, Gray, and Laxus all the time, so they’re pretty comparable.
Popup: With a glare, Erza was able to force the magical replicas of Kyôka, Azuma and Ikaruga, which were summoned by Neinhart’s Historia of the Dead, to dissipate in pure fear of her gaze. This implies some form of fear inducement capabilities.
Wiz: It’s fair to say that Erza would be capable of matching feats like Natsu dodging Laxus’ lightning at speeds of nearly Mach 400, and Gray defeating Invel of the Spriggan 12, who covered the entire country of Fiore in an ice storm. Erza herself defeated Ajeel Ramal of the Spriggan 12 alone, so it’s a fair assumption to say they are of the same level of power.
Boomstick: And though Erza has more than enough power at her fingertips, she’s also really durable, such as when she survived torture from that demon chick, Kyôka, who had increased her sensitivity to everything tenfold. It was enough for the air around her to give her cuts, and Kyôka was going all out with weapons on her. Definitely not a fun experience, but it sure as hell speaks for her survivability and capability to not break under pressure.
Wiz: But even more impressive was the time Erza survived having every last one of her bones in her body apart from her hand broken by Irene Belserion, who also happened to be part dragon, and also Erza’s mother-
Boomstick: Wait! What!?
Wiz: -and Erza still managed to summon the will to intercept a meteor on a crash course with Earth. Despite it being deemed impossible, Erza still accomplished the feat, enabled by the power of friendship.
Boomstick: Despite how absolutely bullshit it is, it was still super impressive. Hell, just to reach the damn space rock, she’d need to be moving at speeds of nearly Mach 20,000, which is over 2.25% the speed of light. And to destroy the entire thing would take a hell of a lot of strength to accomplish.
Wiz: Precisely. By measuring the distance between the meteor and Fiore, and taking into account Erza’s size when compared to it, we can estimate that to destroy the entire meteor would require force upwards of 50 Teratons. For reference, the strongest bomb ever dropped had a destructive output of 50 Megatons, and Erza’s destruction of the meteor would be over 1000 times stronger.
Popup: Despite sounding ridiculous, Fairy Tail characters can indeed empower themselves with emotion, usually from the desire to protect their friends and guild. This grants them enhanced strength, endurance and will to keep fighting.
Boomstick: And Erza is just as skilled and smart as she is strong. She’s honed her craft so finely that she can even wield swords and other weapons with her feet, but that doesn’t mean she’s a slouch in hand-to-hand combat. And she can calculate the abilities and attributes of her opponents with only a few attacks, and can then craft a plan to counter by finding and exploiting their weaknesses. Plus, Erza has over 10 years of battle experience informing her decisions, so she’s not going to slip up easily.
Wiz: This does not mean that Erza is without her faults, however. Despite her great skill, she is self-taught, and was not trained in swordplay, and even though her armours have great protective capabilities, they can still be broken, like when the Adamantine Armour broke after taking that shot from the Jupiter Canon. Erza’s Requip ability also runs on limited magic, and though her stamina and magic pool are both incredibly impressive, they are not unlimited.
Boomstick: Even so, Erza has accomplished many incredible feats. She was youngest ever member of Fairy Tail to become an S-Class mage, and has taken down some of the greatest threats to Fiore, like the Dark Guilds, Oración Seis and Tartarus. She was instrumental in ending the war with the Alvarez Empire and took down several of their Spriggan 12, defeating and surpassing her mother during the conflict, whilst acting as the Seventh Guildmaster of Fairy Tail. She’s proven herself superior to the Wizard Saints and in the end, she even patched stuff up with her now boyfriend, Jellal.
Wiz: Despite a turbulent past, Erza has risen above her past turmoils and grown into a member of the Fairy Tail guild that her comrades can be proud of. No matter the danger, Erza Scarlet will never give up, and with her friends by her side, she will continue to move forwards to protect those she holds dear.
Boomstick: Oh! And did I mention the seduction armour!?
Erza: All I need is the power to be able to protect my comrades. So long as I can have the strength to do that, I don't care if I'm weaker than everyone in the world.
