Edward Eric vs. Luz Noceda is a What-If? Death Battle created by BreezingWinds. It features Edward Elric from The Fullmetal Alchemist series fighting against Luz Noceda from The Owl House series
Description[]
Fullmetal Alchemist vs. The Owl House! Stubborn, Thickheaded troublemakers, yet loyal friends with hearts of gold, these two aspiring heroes have used their intelligence and talents to fight against the oppressive systems of their worlds and save countless lives, but when clash, which will prove superior? Metaphysical science or Natural magic?
Interlude[]
Wiz: Edward Elric, the young state alchemist with a goal to find the Philosopher's Stone.
Boomstick: Luz Nocea, the child from the human realm with dreams of becoming a witch.
Wiz: whether it be the complex science of alchemy or the unrestricted laws of magic, the natural elements are not something that can be easily manipulated.
Boomstick: But with enough determination, skill, and some good ol' pen and paper, you can always find your way of making things work. He's Wiz and I'm Boostick.
Wiz: And it's our job to analyze their weapons, armor, and skills to find out who would win... a Death Battle.
Edward Elric Claps and Transmutes DEATH BATTLE![]
Wiz: back in the early 1900s in the town of Resembool, the Elric brothers, Edward and Alphonse, lived a normal happy life with their parents Trisha Elric and Van Hohenheim, everything seemed nice and serene for a while. Until the day their father left them with no explanation why, and to add insult to injury their mother contracted a severe illness that she had kept a secret for too long.
Boomstick: So what do you get when you combine a deadbeat dad with a deceased mom? Childhood trauma! Yup, we're dealing with your average Shonen protagonist. Understandably upset with losing both parents, Edward and his younger brother were desperate to bring back their mother by any means, because f#$@ dads, and to do so they would turn to the power of alchemy, basically science magic if that makes any sense.
Wiz: It isn't "magic", alchemy is the scientific practice of changing and manipulating the elements into other variations of itself like lead into gold, stone into tools, or wood into entire structures, and in this case, death to life. But it isn't as simple as you would think, as alchemy follows the law of Equivalent Exchange, as in matter cannot simply be created nor destroyed and something of equal or greater value must be sacrificed in the process, something both the brothers would be harshly reminded off when trying to resurrect their deceased mother with the most atrocious type there is—human alchemy.
Boomstick: Which is basically when you try to play god and bring back the dead, and take it from someone with a mad scientist for a friend... Don't do that... At first, it seemed like a good idea, but like trying to replace your car's mufflers with sawn-off shotguns to make it look cooler, things got a little messy.
Wiz: Unlike common resources like wood or coal, a human soul is far too precious and sacred to be replicated, altered, or replaced, but still, with the transmutation circle drawn the chemicals in place, and a bit of spilled blood combined it seemed like they would reunite with their dear mother once again, but as you would expect it went south really fast.
Boomstick: Yeah... Things didn't go so well, Poor Edward ended up losing a leg, and his brother ended up losing his entire body! At this point, he might as well have thrown in the towel, Losing three family members in a row can seriously take a toll on your mental health, especially as a kid, but not Edward Elric, with a bit of quick thinking and some soul-screwy shenanigans, he managed to bind his brothers spirit in a giant suit of armor, I mean at least his brother was still technically alive so it wasn't a complete bummer, though I guess losing one of his arms kind of sucked.
Wiz: With two lost limbs, and his brother's soul inside a giant tin can, Edward was determined to right his mistake and restore their bodies by tracking down the Philosopher’s Stone, a miracle gem said to have the power to bypass the traditional laws of alchemy and do just about anything, but to do so, he would have to address the whole missing arm and leg issue, thankfully with some help from his childhood friend and genius mechanic Winry Rockbell, much like yours truly he had his missing limbs replaced with mechanical prosthetics made from a metal composition of aluminum and carbon also known as automail.
Boomstick: And much like any fictional metal it's way tougher than anything in the real world. Able to withstand bladed weapons and even break them on contact, block bullets, and withstand the 1,000 psi bite force of a giant Lion chimera! The bite force is likely even greater than that with it being a hybrid and all, and Ed shook it off and kicked that big Pussy away with no problem.
Wiz: But it would take more than fancy metal enhancements and sheer thick-headed stubbornness to track down the Philosopher’s Stone, the brothers would need a lot more resources than what they had available, so along the way Ed would join the military and quickly rise the ranks to earn himself a position among some of the greatest alchemists around, earning the position of major and granting him the title: Full Metal Alchemist. All before he was even 13, making him one of the youngest State Alchemists in history.
Boomstick: You know I'm not sure if "Full Metal" makes a lot of sense, I mean he's only got two metal limbs, I've got a shotgun leg and you don't see me calling myself the "Full Metal Redneck" which is what I will now be naming my car. Either way, at first you would wonder how someone with a Napoleon complex even bigger than himself could earn the ranking of Major before even his tween years when compared to any other alchemist, but Edwards no ordinary kid, he's crazy smart and has been studying alchemy for years, and if that wasn't enough he's got a nifty skill up his sleeve.
Wiz: See, while his experience with trying to manipulate life led to some... unfortunate consequences, it also granted Edward the ability to perform alchemy on the spot, Typically most other alchemists would need to first draw a transmutation circle to properly use alchemy but for Ed? A simple clap of his hands. This is because when he attempted Human alchemy it allowed him to meet face-to-face with a mysterious figure called "The Truth"
Boomstick: Who is this shady white figure you may ask? Oh, nothing crazy it's only God! Yup, when trying to bring his dear mother back to life Ed got a glimpse of the big or average-sized guy himself and was given a truckload of knowledge as a result, he copied and pasted everything he knew onto Ed allowing him to create almost anything he wants with just a clap of his hands, Canons, Walls, Spikes, Spears, hands, statues of himself you name it, sure he had his leg taken and his brother shredded to pieces, but he pretty much turned into a transmutation circle as compensation, a pretty good trade-off if you ask me.
Wiz: Dont get the wrong idea, despite not needing a transmutation circle Ed still has to abide by the laws of Equivalent Exchange, say if he wanted to create something like a glass vase, it would have to be made from something of an equal amount and chemical composition, so he won't be creating weapons out of thin air or anything like that.
Boomstick: Well even if can't create stuff on a whim, with nothing more than his skills and knowledge Ed is one of the most versatile alchemists around, he can do a whole bunch of other things that can only be best described as miracles. He can purify water, fix and refine any old and broken objects, soften or harden the molecular state of any material, and even extract the smallest of elements from just about anything, like say a knife made from AN ENTIRE OCEAN OF BLOOD! That is figuratively and literally the most metal thing I have ever seen and I am all here for it.
Boomstick: This is cool and all but I gotta ask, how does drawing a circle with a bunch of fancy shapes and symbols let you do crazy stuff like that? It just looks like you'll just be left with the world's most confusing game of hopscotch.
Wiz: It's a relatively simple process, by drawing a circle and adding in the specified runes the user can draw natural energy from the earth and focus it into itself, acting as a sort of guide to grant the desired effect making it far more versatile than just creation like generating ice and water, creating huge fiery explosions, healing illnesses and much more. and yes, it would make for a pretty fun game of hopscotch
Wiz pulls out a remote and presses a button turning on the tv and showing an image of the transmutation array for destruction alchemy.
Wiz: And much like nature, alchemy is just as much about destruction as it is about creation, after surviving an encounter with the ruthless killer Scar, Ed picked up on destruction alchemy, whereas traditionally alchemy manipulates the molecules of materials to create, destruction alchemy does the exact opposite, destroying matter down the molecular level and if applied to a human the results can be rather gruesome.
Boomstick: So what you're saying is with just a touch Ed could turn someone's head into strawberry jelly? I knew Ed was a badass but wow, that's just insane-ly Awesome!
Boomstick leans on the TV screen activating the Array and destroying the wall, revealing Jocelyn coddling an Edward Elric plushy in a room decorated with FMA posters.
Jocelyn: ...
Wiz: ...
Boomstick: ...
Jocelyn: What? It's a really good series. I'm not going to apologize for that.
Wiz: Eh, fair. With the power of transmutation at his very fingertips only limited by his imagination Ed could easily take down just about anyone with ease, but dont think he's only good for recreating materials, he's incredibly proficient with hand-to-hand combat thanks to years of training under the cold, strict, but caring mother-like mentor Izumi Curtis and frequent spares with his brother Alphonse and with this mixture of brains and brawn he creates a unique fighting style, setting up traps and decoys to throw off enemies with alchemy and beating them down with brute force.
Boomstick: And with years of punching school down pat, Ed toughened up a lot, he can easily toss around full-grown men, break a tree with a single punch, maneuver around attacks so well that he's been compared to a monkey, move a 3,000 metric-ton stone statue with his alchemy, and survived a giant boulder explosion, which if you don't recall, was calculated to be over 100 tons of TNT! Don't think Ed is useless without his science magic, he is one bonafide bada$$.
Wiz: Again, not magic, but it's not just Edwards' strength that's impressive. Being a prodigy in the field of alchemy, Ed's mind is just as refined as his body if not more so. He can create complex battle strategies on the fly and deduce the powers and abilities of a combatant after just a few looks, even as a child he was able to understand and comprehend alchemy perfectly just by taking a look at his father's note and it even claimed that Edward could be capable of creating a Philosopher’s Stone himself, and that was coming from one of the most intelligent state alchemists around.
Boomstick: With his vast knowledge, close-quarters training, and usage of alchemy, Finding the Philosopher’s Stone would be a snap, and it was! Well... except when he finally got his hands on one, it was not what he was expecting, because the thing is that, Philosopher’s Stone are like super messed up, like crimes against humanity kind of messed up.
Wiz: While the Philosopher's Stone holds tremendous power, like when the Red Lotus Alchemist: Kimblee used it to destroy an entire village, a feat worth about 157 kilotons of TNT. Philosopher’s Stones are essentially the souls of humans condensed into one, created by the first Homunculus Father in an attempt to make himself a god, to further reach this self-acclaimed higher state of being, he planned on sacrificing the lives of everyone in the country with a falsy promised day of unity, willing to kill the lives of millions to achieve this power. Edward was reasonably horrified by this revelation and swore on principle to never use one, no matter how much power they held.
Boomstick: Jesus, that got dark real fast, though I guess we were already there when we talked about the whole losing limbs thing and then there was the dog and... Never mind. Despite refusing to use what might as well be pocket purgatory, Edward is still a powerhouse on his own, his alchemy alone is powerful enough to contend with Armstrongs, which could pierce through Sloth's skin, can dodge near point-blank gunfire which would be over 200 m/s, and go toe-to-toe with some powerful Homunculus, like envy who could blow up an entire building!
Wiz: A rather small feat when taking into account the preparation needed beforehand but it still proves that Ed can tango with the best of them, and if things are to get desperate Edward can turn himself into a sort of Philosopher’s Stone to amplify his alchemy and even heal himself to a degree and making his full potential almost limitless, though this comes at a cost as it uses his life force for fuel, effectively shortening his lifespan in the process, kind of an oxymoron, but hey desperate times often call for desperate measures.
Boomstick: Stoned or not though, he kept fighting the good fight to bring down Father's plan to convert the entire country into a Philosopher’s Stone, even when he's been impaled, beaten, literally disarmed, and faced against impossible odds, Edwards determination and force of will allowed him to power through the most egregious and cruel obstacles the world had to offer, it wasn't long until he finally confronted the truth one last time to right his wrongs all those years ago and restore his and his brother's body.
Wiz: And while he may have had to give up his powers for good, it never mattered to him, his brother, his friends, and all of his experiences were all that Ed needed to keep on going. As such, he would continue pursuing his career and research into alchemy to help improve the lives of everyone as Edward continued to grow into a man whom his mother and father would be proud of.
Boomstick: (sniffles) Aw man, I love a happy ending, and even when he's been pushed to the edge over and over, Edwards tenacity and will to push through has proven that no one else could have been better suited for the title of Full Metal Alchemist than the man with a Full Metal Heart.
Edward: Even when our eyes are closed, there's a whole world out there, that lives outside of ourselves and our dreams.
Luz Noceda Discovers DEATH BATTLES Glyph![]
Wiz: Everyone is unique in their own way, while modern society was built on the ideologies of everyone being equals, we all still have differences that separate us from the norm, and a lot of us usually have a more "interesting" perspective on how we see the world. However, not everyone can relate to our point of view and it often makes us feel like outcasts as if no one can truly understand us.
Boomstick: Yeah, I can relate, Not everyone agrees with my all-beer and meat diet... Oh Mama Boomstick, You and your famous squirrel steak are the only ones who truly get me...
Wiz: O...Kay then. Anyway, within the State of Connecticut, lies the town of Graves Field, and the home of everyone's favorite misfit, Luz Noceda. A young eccentric child with a love for anything mystical and whimsical with a heart ever so pure, a lost cause in a world unfit for someone with such untapped potential, and probably the biggest geek you'll ever meet.
Boomstick: Wiz, you're one to talk about being a geek, I've seen the hours you've put into OldSchool Runescape, and it's honestly pretty embarrassing.
Wiz: This coming from the guy who'll binge WOW for weeks. Ignoring any unneeded judgment, Luz was an eccentric soul raised by her single mother Camila Noceda, but her love for all things fantasy stemmed from a time of tragedy, at a young age Luz learned that her father, Manny had passed away from an undefined illness only a few years after her birth, leaving the young impressionable Luz with only the comfort of her mother. But before his passing, he left his daughter something that would change her life forever. A book. About an anime witch who fights monsters with a rocket launcher staff. Not exactly the best thing to leave your child after your final moments.
Boomstick: Hey, her father loved her enough to leave behind something special to him so that his child would have something to help her cope during a time of grief, Now that's dad material that warrants respect (sound of a beer can opening) This one goes to you, Manny. After reading what I can only assume is Harry Potter meets little witch academia, Luz would gain a complete love and adoration for anything magic and all things mythical, and like any ecstatic 15-year old Middle School girl she just had to express that passion, The only problem was that not everyone was a fan of it, or anyone for that matter.
Wiz: Not wanting her daughter to lose touch with reality, Camelia planned to send Luz to Reality Check Summer Camp, where she could learn amazing things like balancing checkbooks or appreciating public radio though I'm not sure if kids would rather listen to Dave Ramsey instead of enjoying their summer break. However, Luz's dull fate would change when she came across a strange little owl that she would chase into a mysterious door leading to a strange world known as the Demon realm, inhabited by Demons, monsters, whatever the hell Hooty is, and of course, Witches.
Boomstick: If Luz wasn't having a nerdish breakdown before, then her brain might as well have had a heart attack. Not long after arriving, she ran into the most wanted witch in the isles, Eda the owl lady, and after taking a look at her harpy form, she'd be on my most wanted list too, now that is one foxy momma. While at first, she wasn't big on the idea of having an annoyingly optimistic human pet, she would eventually grow attached to Luz, seeing her as a surrogate daughter.
Wiz: With a whole new realm to explore and a powerful mentor to help teach her the ways of Magic, Luz was all set to make all her fantasies come true and become the good witch she knew she was destined to be, or so she thought. While the boiling isles were full of all sorts of creatures capable of magic, Luz herself came up short as she lacked a special organ attached to a witch's heart that allows them to harness a self-reservoir of magical energy known as a bile sack. It seemed like her journey to become a witch was over before it ever started, though thanks to a near-death encounter with the owl beast, Luz discovered a more natural type of magic, glyphs.
Boomstick: With glyphs, Luz can make up for her lack of a magic heart sack thing by drawing symbols that harness the magical energy from the isle itself, and like a Pokemon, she has three different types to choose from, plus an extra one because she's just that special. With the light glyph, she can create illuminating light orbs that can act as flashbangs and create holograms, Ice creates pillars and weapons and freezes things solid, Plant can create ensnaring vines or trees large enough to blow up a shapeshifting monster from the inside, and Fire creates searing fireballs and can generate enough heat to melt down metal and of course, it makes explosions! Making it objectively the best.
Wiz: While I'm more of a fan of the light glyph's lustrous healing abilities I will admit the Fire glyph has a lot of destructive potential, such as when Gus, a witch from the illusionist coven used it to blow a giant hole through a massive jumble of vines.
Wiz: judging by the size, width,p and length of the hole formed when compared to Gus's height of 4,2 and assuming the vines as a whole were entirely solid, the energy needed to destroy that much plant matter would require the energy output of about 452 tons of TNT!
Boomstick: Meaning just one fire glyph would have the explosive yield of a Mod 3 B61 atomic bomb! And Luz can carry as many of those things as she wants! Who needs hippy dippy healing magic or giant goop monsters when you have that kind of firepower just hanging around in your pockets?
Wiz: It doesn't stop there. Luz's love and adoration of magic have led to her studying more about the glyph's capabilities, and Through plenty of experimentation and some trial and error, Luz learned that by combining the standard 4 glyphs she found, she can achieve other spells, with the mix of fire and ice she can create a shrouding mist, two ice glyphs, and a light glyph grants her invisibility for as long as she holds her breath and a fire, ice and light glyph create the safety hover, perfect for surviving long falls.
Boomstick: My favorite is the monster hand glyph, just imagine how handy it would be for grabbing snacks or a beer from the fridge and for scratching that annoying itch on your back that you can just never reach. But there's one glyph that's so deadly that every witch fears just the thought of, a spell that the emperor himself uses to establish his tyrannical rule, Petrification. Unlike every other glyph it's super dangerous, If you find this glyph attached to your back don't think it's some harmless prank, once its is activated There's no point in trying to fight it, you're dead, game over.
Wiz is seen holding the glyph for petrification.
Wiz: Right, once the petrifaction glyph is activated it causes the afflicted target to slowly turn into stone, reducing organic matter into to solid rock in just mere seconds, it could even make for a fine centerpiece if you're just that sadistic.
Boomstick: Wait... Is that what all those lawn decorations in front of your house are? I was wondering why they all looked weirdly similar to people screaming in terror.
Wiz: Oh what? No. They're just ordinary statues that I bought online, definitely, not long-time enemies of mine that I kidnapped and petrified to make an example out of, nope!
Boomstick: Uh... Neat! well remind me to get the name of that website later I've been looking to spruce up my shack, I like the one that looked like it was begging for mercy.
Wiz: So do I Boomstick. So. Do. I...
Boomstick: After mastering glyphs and successfully getting accepted into Demon Hogwarts, all of Luz's Magical girl dreams finally came true and she couldn't be any happier, she even got a cool girlfriend, Amity Blight! Props to Luz for being the first openly bisexual LGBT rep in a Disney animated show, you go girl.
Wiz: But despite the Demon being full of magic and mystical creatures, she would have to face reality one way or another. For underneath it all lay a darker plot, Emperor Belos was preparing for the day of unity where anyone branded with a coven sigil would slowly have their life force drained with the draining spell and eventually die. Luz was determined to save this world that she'd grown to love so much and would band together with the rest of her friends to stop the witch hunters' plans and would succeed in doing so! Kind of.
Boomstick: Yeah, this little kid called The Collector who is basically God if he came straight outta The Good Night Show, pretty much did all the work for them in like a second so... Mission accomplished! Well, that was until he got a little too excited to play "The Owl House". Not sure how exactly you play but Luz and her friends didn't bother to stay around and find out and booked the hell outta there to the Human realm where she would finally reunite with her mother after so many months so in a sort of way, It all worked out in the end?
Wiz: Though her friends would have to follow in the process forcing them to leave their own families in the process, Luz was back with her mother, but the people she came to love had to sacrifice so much for her while she couldn't return the favor, and the guilt would weigh her down, if she never went to the boiling isles maybe everything would still be fine, she wouldn't have lost Eda and King, the lives of thousands wouldn't have been put at risk, and her friends wouldn't have to adapt to a whole new world as she did. Though she and the rest would find a way back to the Demon realm to attempt to stop The Collector, she would leave behind the boiling isles for good as she thought it would be for the best.
Boomstick: But Camila wasn't having any of that and followed her daughter into the Demon realm to convince her that she was actually cool with Luz's crazy hobbies, as it turned out she never wanted to change who Luz was in the first place and always accepted her for who she was, she never thought Luz was an outcast, she always saw the unique, creative, little shining light that she was. Aw man, what a great mom, ...Excuse me I need a moment...
Wiz: Upon hearing her mother's encouraging words, Luz had found out what it was she truly wanted, to be understood, with her greatest desire recognized she would gain an incredibly helpful Tool, or should I say, a friend.
Wiz: When A witch speaks their greatest wish in life they can bond with a small sentient magic artifact known as Palisman, little magic totems that act as companions for witches, Demons, and even humans, and act as separate sources of magic allowing Luz to use her glyphs without the need of having to draw them or use little sheets of paper and while Palisman can be shaped into many different things like birds, cats, bees, and chameleons. Luz wanted her palisman to choose for itself and soon got, Stringbean.
Boomstick: Aww she looks so cute! But what is a snake shifter you may ask? I sure as hell wish I knew, but unlike any other Palisman that can only take on one shape, Stringbean can shape and morph her body into anything she wants, a dragon, a bat, a scorpion, and even a staff that Luz can fly on and channel magic through, not as potent as the natural stuff but it still gets the job done like the time she completely obliterated a large section of a forest with a dark laser, a blast of that size would require over 30 kilotons of tnt! You know I wonder what my palisman would look like?
Wiz: If I had to guess maybe a beer can with eyes?
Boomstick: Nah that's lame, a beercan with buff arms and duel-wielding AK-47s sounds way cooler! With a source of magical spells, A flying staff, and a cool-looking witch costume, Luz had just about everything she needed to stop the collector and end the spiteful rein of emperor Belos for good.
Wiz: Luz has dodged arrows fired from a crossbow, survived point-blank fire glyph explosions, effortlessly taken down a room of Demon guards, managed to pacify the destructive nature of the collector, and has matched her mentor Eda in a fight while she's in her harpy form, albeit neither where giving it their all, but still impressive when you recall that eda can dodge lightning from her old flame Raine Whispers even in a weakened state.
Wiz: While the properties and nature behind the speed of the lightning strikes are iffy, they did come from a storm cloud so it seems fair to compare them to natural lightning, given the time it took for Eda to dodge each bolt when compared to the height of the stormcloud above, Eda must have been moving at over Mach 624, that's over 525 times the speed of sound.
Boomstick: For a girl with "weak nerd arms" Luz is pretty dame quick on her feet, she's consistently kept up with powerful witches across the isles Like Hunter, Kikimora, and Lillith, she's even gone toe to toe with the emperor himself who's been around for hundreds of years and was said to be the strongest witch around, and Luz has always gotten through thanks to having a sharp and resourceful mind. Sure she can get a little impulsive but hey she's a teenager, they tend to be that way sometimes. are we sure this girl is fully human?
Wiz: Well after an encounter with the Papa Titan himself after uh... Dying... Luz would be granted the power to transform into the almighty Titan Luz, and rip Belos straight out of the Titan's heart, and put an end to his tyranny and plans to wipe out all of Witchkind.
Wiz: Though with great power comes greater sacrifice, as using the last of the Titan's strength caused the magic that surrounded the isles, to vanish permanently and render the glyphs powerless, leaving Luz as an ordinary human girl once again.
Boomstick: But don't think that was enough to keep Luz down, Even with her source of magic gone Luz continued to follow her love for all things magic and grew into a strong young woman who would pursue a career at the University of Wild Magic, living the best of both worlds with her new friends and family, with Eda as the headmaster. Man, she must have saved a lot when it came to student loans.
Wiz: Lucky... Still, with or without the use of magic, it's remarkable to see how Luz has grown from the once unruly misfit troublemaker to savor of the Demon realm, And with a whole new set of glyph combos to learn and a smile so bright, the good witch Luz is sure to shine a little light into your life.
Luz: Do not underestimate me belos, for I am The Good Witch Luz! Child of the Human Realm, student of the Demon Realm, And Warrior of peace! ...NOW EAT THIS SUCKAA!!
Death battle[]
It was an average night in the town of Amestris, Buildings were lit up from the inside as the residents within prepared to turn in for the night as the remaining awake residents walked up and down the streets chatting amongst each other, It all seemed to be a typical quiet night much like any other. However, we cut over to a graveyard where a giant stone arch is seen lying in the middle surrounded by a pool of water atop a hill illuminated from the light of the moon. In front of the stone structure stood two figures, one large and covered head to toe in a suit of armor, (that is to say he was the suit of armor) known as Alphonse Elric and the other, shorter with blond hair, a red cloak, and an iconic metal prosthetic, known as Edward Elric, the state alchemist. The two brothers analyzed the arch, top to bottom, ensuring it was exactly what they sought.
Alphonse: Is the right place?
Edward looked at the stone arch for a second and looked up at his Metalic sibling with a smile before reaching into his cloak and pulling out an old tattered scroll with various texts and symbols scattered across the front.
Edward: I'm Positive, if we followed this puzzle correctly, we should be standing right in front of the gateway, all that we need now.
Reaching into his cloak again, Edward pulls out a small vial full of a thick blue liquid.
Edward: Now all that's left is to... Apply it... to the top... of the gateway!
Ed tries desperately to reach the top of the arch, he tries standing on his toes, jumping, and trying to climb the sides only to slide right back down, all while groaning in frustration after each failed attempt. After a few minutes of watching in embarrassment, Alphonse walks up behind Edward and grabs him by the waist, lifting him slightly above the arch, much to Edwards's annoyance though still grateful for the assist.
Edward: *sighs* Thanks, Al.
Alphonse: Anytime brother.
Edward opens the vile and pours the liquid across the top, it drips to the ground where it glows and quickly spreads to both sides of the arch, eventually crawling up the sides and forming a blue swirling vortex in the center that bursts into a flash of golden light. The Brothers shield their eyes before looking back and seeing that the arch had a rippling gold teal portal between it. Edward gazes in awe for a moment and begins to walk towards it, Alphonse grabs Edwards's Shoulder halting him.
Alphonse: Ed, are you sure this is a good idea? This seems rash, who knows what could be on the other side.
Ed ponders for a minute, indeed, they don't know what to expect when they enter, but given recent failures their options are slim to none, it doesn't take the state alchemist long to conclude.
Edward: It's true we don't know what's ahead, but if theres any chance that another philosopher stone exists out there, we have to do everything we can to make sure we either find or destroy it we can't risk it causing any more damage, not here or there, are you with me?
Alphonse: . . . You know I always am.
With that in mind, the two brothers step forward into the ethereal wave of energy, and in no short time they wind up inside a tent surrounded by old-looking trinkets and objects not familiar to them, paying no mind to the room of clutter they see an opening from ahead and proceed to make their way out. Upon exiting, the two brothers would reel back in surprise and shock to see that they wound up in a sort of market, full of strange and obscure-looking creatures of various shapes and sizes with very grotesque wares on their stalls, some of them having one giant eye, others having multiple arms coming out of their orifices, and some with features best not described for the sake of the reader's sanity, the sight of this new world was offputting, to say the least.
Edward: Well. This world certainly fits the scroll's descriptions, this must be the Demon realm.
Edward and Alphonse looked around, mesmerized but also slightly disturbed, but they knew they couldn't stand and take in the sights, they had a Stone to find and no time to waste and began to make their way around the market all while getting various gazes and glances from the locals, some good some not so much, it was to be expected that they would stick out, although it was also odd how none of them seemed to be surprised or even a bit shocked at the sight of a human and a giant suit of armor. Soon after both boys stopped and began to discuss a plan.
Edward: This place Is... interesting, but we won't get any information by wandering around, I think we should split up and see what leads we can gather.
Alphonse: Split up? Ed, I don't know if that's a good idea, we know nothing about this place or how it works, and we don't exactly fit in.
Edward: Well between the two of us, I think A giant talking suit of armor will have a better chance of starting a discussion than a human, and the locals don't seem all that bothered by us, it'll be fine, we'll meet up in front of the tent we left after a bit when we learn what we can. Sound good?
Alphonse thinks for a minute, not all convinced that splitting up in an unknown world is a good plan, but even though he can be thickheaded, he knows he can often trust his brother's instinct and soon follows along.
Alphonse: All right, but be careful, we don't know what could happen here.
Edward nods and the two walk off in different directions hoping to find someone or something, that can tell them about the Philosopher's Stone. Not long after, we cut over to another part of the Witch market, where a small furry creature with a red collar and a skull-like face is walking beside a human girl with a purple and white T-shirt and a green satchel around her waist, who was currently trying to hide her appearance with a cat-shaped hoodie, Luz Noceda, And her adoptive little brother King where attempting to stay inconspicuous, while also bumping into everyone in their way.
King: Luz, I'm not sure about this, we're already attracting a bunch of attention to ourselves, we should be back at the hideout with Eda and the rest.
Luz Bumps into another bystander, profusely apologizing while trying to talk to her younger fuzzier sibling.
Luz: I know, I know, but trust me, we're here for a good reason, Everyone has been on edge trying to find some way to stop or slow down the day of unity, that's why we're here to find something that can help us out!
King: What is it exactly we're looking for?
Luz continues to walk while looking at all the different stalls trying to find anything that could be of use that she could bring back to the base that could assist the C.A.T's and more importantly, her friends.
Luz: Okay so I haven't thought of what exactly, but there's bound to be something we can find, right?
King: That doesn't seem like a good idea, plus we've been out here for hours, and my legs are getting tired from all this walking.
Luz: That's fine, you can head on back to the base and rest up little bro, I'll find what we need and be back ASAP, I promise.
King is hesitant to leave, But Luz pats him on the head and gives him a confident smile, King smiles back and the two wave to each other as Luz walks ahead to continue her search while King scampers back to the base. The screen splits to show both Edward and Luz walking down the same pathway, Ed asking around, while Luz tries to not draw attention to herself, as the two teenagers walk a red shine catches their eyes causing them both to look up ahead and notice a small, red shining stone on a vacant stall in the center. Eager to find out if it was what either had been looking for, both teens began to dash to it hoping to snag it before anyone else, Luz being the first to grab it, only for Ed to intercept her halfway through.
Edward: Hey! Hands Off-
Edward and Luz both back up at the sight of each other, shocked at the sight of another human inhabiting the realm of Demons.
Both: Huh?!
The shock turns to confusion and then interest with the two analyzing each other, making sure to look out for any unordinary details or possible major differences. Luz was the first to break the silence ecstatic at the sight of another human.
Luz: You're a human, an actual human! I never thought Id find another one!
Edward: Well I- Wait, more? Are there other humans around?
Luz: Well, It's... a bit of a long story, How did you wind up here?
Edward: I could ask you the same thing, but right now I'll have to ask if you can give me that stone you have, it might be what I'm looking for.
Luz opened her palm and looked at the stone, she felt a little obligated to hand it to Ed if he thought it was so important that he'd cross entire dimensions just to find it, she held it out to Ed who reached to grab it, but the thought of everyone back at the base crossed her mind, this stone could likely help the others if it held that much importance making her quickly retract her arm.
Luz: I'm sorry but, I think I need this more than you do, but I'm sure you'll find something else like it, maybe we'll see each other again soon.
Luz puts the stone in a green sachel around her waist and turns to walk away, much to Ed's annoyance he grabs Luz by the shoulder with unintentional force before she even takes a step, earning a wince from the Owl Witch's apprentice.
Edward: You don't understand, That stone can dangerous if in the wrong hands, I've been looking for it for as long as I can remember so hand it over.
Luz, a little shaken from the sudden hostility decides to stand her ground rather than forfeit the stone to a random stranger even if he may also be the same species as her in a world full of monsters, and pulls out of Ed's grip.
Luz: You don't understand either. I need this to help keep my friends and everyone else safe, the stone is coming with me.
Luz turned once more to walk away, causing an anger bulge to form on Ed's head, he may not know what Luz is dealing with but he's come too far and risked too much to let that stone just walk away. With a clap of his hands he slammed them onto the ground emitting blue electricity around the area, suddenly a wall popped from under the ground in front of Luz taking her by surprise and blocking her way, Luz turned around baffled at what just happened to see that Ed was giving her a cold look.
Edward: I'll ask one more time. Give. Me. The stone.
Luz grabbed the stone from her sachel, debating on whether it was worth risking a confrontation, even feeling incredibly intimidated she took a deep breath, put the stone away, and pulled out a glyph with the symbol for ice and held it next to her, she wasn't going to give up so easily, even if it meant getting into a fight with a human once again.
Luz: And I'll say this one more time, The stone Is Coming With me.
Ed hesitated a bit, was he willing to go through fighting a girl he had just met just for the stone? It didn't take long to remind himself of the sheer power it possessed and the danger it posed to everyone, including her, and got into a combat-ready position.
Edward: Alright, don't say I didn't ask you nicely.
(Dont ask how Luz has her Azura costume)
Luz quickly slammed the glyph onto the ground as a light blue circle formed around it sprouting a wave of ice spikes toward Ed catching him by surprise but not so much so that he couldn't swiftly move out of the way, the spikes just narrowly missing his cloak. At the same time, Luz used this opportunity to get away, running past the wall Ed made and holding her satchel tightly inciting Ed to chase after her, the two teens ran and swerved around hoards of (people? Demons? Whatever) Luz running as fast as she could while Ed continued to tail her. As he ran Ed clapped his hands together and slammed them onto the ground once more sprouting dozens of small pillars across the market path, several of which caused any unfortunate demons to trip or bump their faces into, Luz looked behind her to see that Ed had seemingly stopped and smiled triumphantly, only to trip over one of the pillars making her drop her satchel away as Ed dashed right past her ready to snag it. Luz was not about to let that happen and dug in her pockets pulling out a glyph for plant.
Luz: Oh no you don't!
Luz slapped the glyph down as lines of the earth began to crack towards Edward, before he could reach the satchel dozens of vines popped out from underneath him encasing him in a ball of plant matter, picking herself up Luz casually walked around the ball of vines and picked up her satchel and prepared to make her way back to the base, but before she even took a step she felt the ground around her shake and in almost in an instant a giant crude cage sprung from below imprisoning her, Luz looked at the plant ball and saw a blue glow followed by a knife cutting it open and Edward walking out revealing he had transformed his metal arm into said knife, Ed walked up to the makeshift cage and looked at Luz sternly.
Edward: You don't have to keep this up, just give me the stone and we can end this peacefully.
Seeing no other option Luz looked down in defeat and opened her satchel, dug through it, and held out a clenched fist to Ed as he reached in close to grab what was supposedly the stone. Only for Luz to open her hand revealing instead the glyph for light which curled up into a bright glowing sphere.
Luz: Gotcha.
Luz closed her eyes and the light ball exploded in Ed's face, blinding and staggering him back while holding his eyes in pain. At the same time, Luz pulled out another glyph, this time for fire, and activated it as it glowed a bright orange, in no time the earth cage around her melted while she zipped up her satchel and ran away as fast as she could. Ed opened his tear-ridden eyes and scanned ahead, his vision was blurred but he was still able to make out footprints left by Luz, not wasting time he continued his pursuit, meanwhile Luz was drawing large symbols in the dirt behind a vacant stall, she stood up to reveal that it was the glyph for teleportation.
Luz: Alright, this should take me right back to the base, Eda and the others are not going to believe what just happened.
Luz prepared to activate the glyph but was halted by the sound of a familiar voice.
Edward: There you are!
Luz turned to see Ed, his eyes still watery from Luz's previous trick, he wasted no time and dashed towards her making Luz step back onto the glyph and activating it, before Ed could reach her a yellow glowing veil surrounded both of them in, the two were enveloped in a bright white flash that sent them both to an unspecified location. The area was unfamiliar but there were trees, rivers, and plenty of odd-looking wildlife around insisting that it was a forest, the light flashes again causing Ed to accidentally tackle Luz, sending both teens over a small ledge Edward was the first the land, but quickly got back on his feet, only for Luz to come crashing down flooring him once again much to his annoyance. Luz picked herself off Ed and scanned the area, this part of the isles was unfamiliar to her filling the witch apprentice with unease, but she remembered that she had bigger problems to worry about when she turned around and saw Ed getting back up, he brushed some dirt off him and clapped his hands together once more.
Edward: Alright, I didn't want it to come to this.
Edward slammed his hands on the earth as it began to morph and shape around him.
Edward: But I am taking that stone, one way or another.
Luz glared at Edward before pulling out another glyph for ice, she was hoping it wouldn't have escalated this far but it was clear there was no other option, a fight was inevitable so she was prepared to give it her all.
Luz: Okay then, you want a fight? Then let's go!
With that said both protégés put on faces of resolve with Luz slamming the glyph down sending out a massive wave of ice spikes toward Ed, who put up a wall in turn for defense, neither looking to back down for a moment.
Edward was quick to make the next move, slamming his hands down on the ground again he created a stone club and a pillar underneath him to launch him in the air, holding his weapon behind him and preparing to slam it right on top of Luz's head. Not wanting her head caved in, Luz jumped back and reached into her satchel, however, the state alchemist was unrelenting as he kept swinging at her with his newly created weapon, forcing the young witch to dodge each swing with no time to reach into her bag. Ed kept up the pressure, but Luz was proving to be harder to hit with each attempt.
Edward: (Thinking: She's a lot faster than I thought, but she'll have to tire out eventually)
Luz ducked under another swing and tried to pull out another glyph, fire, plant, ice, it didn't matter what, she needed something to halt Ed's onslaught. Unfortunately, this left her open to a kick from Ed knocking her on her back and making her drop her satchel again, Ed wasted no time and rushed over to Luz with his club held above his head and swung it down expecting to end the fight here and now. Much to his surprise however, a purple staff with a snake-like creature at the end flew right in between the two, blocking his attack and pushing him back, the staff floated over to Luz who grabbed it while breathing a sigh of relief.
Luz: *Phew* Thanks Stringbean.
Edward looked ahead a little confused about where that staff came from; it was almost like it moved on its own. Luz grabbed her satchel and quickly hopped aboard her weapon and took to the skies leaving Ed down below a little dumbfounded, first summoning elements from paper and now flying staffs?
Edward: What the hell? What kind of alchemy are you using?
Luz: Huh? What are you talking about? This is 100% pure magic here.
Edward: Magic? What, next you'll tell me you can pull a rabbit out of your bag?
Luz didn't take that snarking remark very well so she was ready to give Ed a prime example of what magic can do, she reached into her satchel and pulled out three ice glyphs and crumpled all of them in her hand, tossing them at Ed, the crumpled paper balls quickly transformed into ice in the form of lances. Ed was quick to dodge two of them but the third one hit his prosthetic arm causing minimal damage, it was clear that whatever "magic" she was using was dangerous and with how high up she was retaliating would be easier said than done. Having no other choice Ed ran to avoid being skewered and tried to come up with a plan but Luz was hot on his trail firing a barrage of ice shards narrowly missing the alchemist, Ed had to act fast.
Edward: (Thinking: She likes staying in place and attacking at a distance, if I can knock her off that staff I can finish this quickly)
With a plan thought of, Ed clapped his hands and slammed down on the earth again, creating dozens of pillars that sprung up high in the air, Luz slowed down and weaved around as many of the pillars as she could, a few almost knocking her off her seat. Edward created more pillars hoping to bring Luz down, while Luz tried to evade as many of them as she could, eventually one of the pillars struck Luz from underneath, sending her flying off her weapon.
Edward: I got you now!
However, rather than falling flat on her face, Luz pulled out a plant glyph and summoned a long vine to wrap it around one of the pillars, she swung back around and almost as if on queue, landed right back on her staff all with a confident smug on her face.
Edward: Oh come on!
Luz: Alright, my turn.
Flying straight towards Ed Luz pulled out another plant glyph and created a vine lasso, before the state alchemist could run, she snagged him by the ankle while flying right past him, it didn't take Ed long to realize what she was doing but didn't have the time to free himself before he was quickly pulled away further into the forest while screaming the entire way at the top of his lungs.
Flying deeper into the forest Luz would begin to fly faster all while Ed helplessly came along for the ride, swerving through branches, making sharp turns, even flying through trees to mess with Ed, who spat out a mouthful of leaves much to his annoyance. Making a sharp U-turn, Luz would let the vine snap, sending Ed flying into a tall tree and causing cracks to form on it, Ed landed on his rear and rubbed his head looking at Luz who was floating harmlessly above Ed with the smuggest of grins on her face, it was clear she was taunting him which caused a vein to form on the alchemists head.
Tired of Luz's aerial superiority Ed clapped his hands and slammed on the ground once more, this time forming an array of cannons! Luz would float back a little, on edge at the sight of the makeshift artillery, but it had to be only for intimidation, There's no way those cannons worked right? That internal question would be answered as while his hands still cackled with electricity Ed slammed his hands on top of one of the cannons, and all at once each one fired! Luz had no time to even gasp in shock as she had to move left, right, all around to avoid getting struck. While the cannon fire continued, Luz kept up the pace flying around each projectile with ease, it was surprisingly easy, almost too easy she thought, that's when she noticed that Ed wasn't anywhere near the cannons, and at the same time all the cannons would all stop firing, Luz looked down in confusion, where did he go?
That's when the sound of electricity grabbed her attention, turning around she saw that Ed had his hands on a very tall tree, except rather than a weapon of sorts or another assortment of cannons the tree looked relatively unchanged. That is until Luz noticed a shadow cast above her, looking up she saw that the end of the tree had been changed into a giant hand! Luz tried to fly out of the way but the colossal hand managed to swat the rear end of her staff finally knocking her off and sending her crashing back down to earth, rather than a harsh landing she dug through her satchel and pulled out another glyph, holding it close to her chest Luz surrounded herself with a light blue glow and before making contact with the ground, would safely hover in place, and then fall flat on her face. Picking herself up she saw ahead of her that Ed had grabbed ahold of her staff.
Edward: Not so cocky without your flying stick now huh?
Ed would mockingly twirl Luz's staff expecting a sour remark from her, but instead she... Whistled?
Luz: Stringbean, here girl!
Edward: Okay seriously? Who's Stringbean?
Ed's question was answered as he noticed that the staff dissipated before his hands, in its place the small snake-like creature would come to life, Ed blinked in confusion and bewilderment but quickly snapped out of it when he saw the witch's Palisman fly towards her, He may not have known how it worked, but it was obvious that it was the reason behinds Luz's flight.
Edward: I don't think so!
acting fast he grabbed the snake and held her tightly ensuring she couldn't reunite with her owner. Stringbean squirmed and nudged trying her best to escape but Ed wasn't letting her free anytime soon, so rather than try and break free, Stringbean's orb-like tail would morph into that of a scorpion's and stab directly into Ed's hand, but to both her and Luz's surprise, Ed didn't seem bothered by it all, instead he chuckled.
Edward: Nice try.
Clenching the fist he held Stringbean in, Ed tossed her up high and clapped his hands, but rather than slamming them on the ground, he slid his left hand against his right, turning it into a metal bat, taking a batter's stance he held is transformed arm back and once Stringbean came back down.
WHAM!
Stringbean took the full hit and was sent flying! Hitting a tree she dropped to the ground unconscious and badly hurt. Luz's face quickly changed to one of concern and wasted no time and ran over to her Palisman and picked her up inspecting the damage, her eyes almost full of tears.
Luz: STRINGBEAN! Are you okay?!
Stringbean weakly gave out a chirp, confirming that she was fine but could barely fly, let alone transform, Luz took note of this and gently put her into her satchel and gave it a soft pat, ensuring she was safe, Ed, seeing this display felt remorseful, that little snake held a lot of value to her didn't it?
Edward: Hey, I'm sorry, I didn't think that-
Luz Cut Ed off by firing an ice spike that narrowly grazed Ed's face, standing up straight she stared intensely at him, her hazel eyes filled with fury with a fire glyph in hand.
Luz: You're GOING to feel sorry soon!
With rage driving her emotions, Luz crushed the glyph in her hand and thrust her arm forward activating it and sending a large wave of fire toward Ed! Ed would waste no time and bring up a wall with his alchemy in defense, the heat from the flames already melting it down, he had to think of something fast. Unfortunately, he would not get that opportunity as he would find himself snared by giant thorny vines, the flames died down to show that Luz had a plant glyph placed down and immediately followed it up by tossing a crumpled ice glyph that was shaped into a pillar of ice with a fist formed at the end towards Ed and smashing through the half-melted wall.
Taking the full hit, the ice pillar shattered as Ed was sent flying further into the forest landing on his back and drawing a bit of blood from the state alchemist, Ed was dazed but still conscious enough to note that Luz was not holding back anymore, those pieces of paper were trouble and Luz was not pulling any punches, literally.
Edward: (thinking: Dame it, she's not playing around, but she's mainly reliant on those slips of paper from her bag, I just gotta separate it from her)
It took a bit of struggle, but Ed was able to free himself from the roots, wiping the blood from his mouth he saw Luz walking towards him, her face still painted with rage, although a little guilty, Ed was not phased by this and clapped his hands together and bringing them upon a nearby boulder.
Edward: I'm sorry for what I did to your friend. Really am.
Sliding his hands across the surface, Ed would create a stone spear and held it by him, his face showing nothing else but resolve to obtain the relic he had crossed dimensions for.
Edward: But I'm not going to give up that easily, if you want to walk away with that stone you're going to have to beat me first.
Luz dug into her satchel and pulled out several different glyphs, Ed was tough as he was tenacious, but too much was on the line for her to just back down now, and after what he did to her palisman, Luz was more than up for the challenge, even if it meant going up against another human again.
Luz: Challenge...
Before she finished, Luz grabbed a plant glyph and slammed it on the ground sending a barrage of thistles at Ed.
Luz: Accepted!
The thistles would home in fast on Ed, but this didn't discourage him, running towards Luz he would jump, duck, and slice through the plant onslaught like it was nothing, Luz would keep up the pressure by sending a bunch of ice shards at Ed, along with a few fireballs, but Ed wasn't wavering in the slightest, he maneuvered through all the projectiles, a few almost hitting him but still narrowly dodging them all, even grabbing some of the ice shards and shattering them in his prosthetic hand. Luz was not deterred, Ed was agile but it wasn't enough to make her stop, she kept firing all sorts of elements, fireballs, sharp briars, ice shards, not letting up, focusing solely on trying to get a solid hit in.
Reaching into her satchel again Luz felt the inside of her bag (not so much so that she would disturb Stringbean) and realized that she had run out of glyphs! Ed took notice of this and dashed at this opportunity, Luz looked up aiming to dodge but Ed pulled a feint attack on her letting him get several hits in, a few with hands and with his spear, damaging the witch's apprentice and drawing blood, Ed ended his assault with a push kick sending Luz onto a tree, Ed didn't let up, he ran up to Luz and held his spear back ready to thrust it straight through her chest, Luz stood there beaten and unconscious, making Ed hesitate, she was out of combat and therefore no longer a threat, there was no reason to try and land a finishing blow.
Lowering his weapon, Ed inspected Luz, she was hurt but breathing, which was good, he didn't want things to go this far but he had no other option, he had been through too much before to let the very thing he spent years searching for slip out of his hands. With all that in mind, he reached toward Luz's satchel and prepared to grab the stone.
Until he felt something make contact with his chest, he looked back at Luz to see that she had faked losing consciousness with a stern look on her face, looking back down at his chest he saw that Luz placed a glyph on him and before he could try and take it off fire would burst from the glyph, rocketing Ed far away from Luz and smashing through a tree branch. Luz fell to her knees breathing heavily and clutching a few of her wounds, things were getting intense, but despite how much pain she was in she was not planning on giving up now, looking around she noticed piles of leaves scattered around her from the impact, she reached into her bag and pulled out a pen, and an idea.
Meanwhile, Ed was quickly recovering from the crash silently cursing himself for not seeing such an obvious trick coming and getting set back again as a result, still, Luz had no more pieces of paper to pull out and she was still hurt, she couldn't have ran very far if she tried, picking up his spear he ran towards Luz's location quickly trying to cover the distance. Luz on the other hand, was scribbling all sorts of leaves, drawing as fast as she could, some of them tore from the pen pressure and a few looked sloppy but she couldn't worry about perfection right now she had to act fast Before Ed-
Edward: You've got some fancy tricks, and you put up a good fight...
Ed was walking towards Luz nonchalantly with his spear in hand, Luz gave him a run for his money but it was clear she was in no condition to keep going, Ed was sure of this.
Edward: But this fight is over, stand down now and this can all end.
Normally anyone in Luz's condition would take up this offer, she was hurt, her main source of flight was incapacitated and she had no more glyphs, it would seem surrender would be the ideal option, and so, Luz held up her hands-
-And quickly brought them down on two leaves, the foliage glowed a bright orange and blue and instantly the entire area was shrouded in a thick mist, Ed shielded his eyes as the mist enveloped both of them, with his eyes covered, Ed slowly made his way through the mist squinting tightly for any sign of the witch's apprentice, though the surrounding mist stung his eyes, he saw a familiar looking silhouette in the near distance and slowly made his way over, grabbing it by the shoulders, he expected to take Luz by surprise, but rather it was merely a sculpture made of ice, even more, there was a leaf attached to it with a glyph for plant. Upon activation, Ed was once again wrapped in vines and sighing deeply in annoyance, how many times has this happened to him exactly?
Luz: A classic misdirection.
Ed turned his head to see Luz surrounded by several orbs of light, she grabbed onto two of them and the wounds on her body began to slowly disappear, Luz stood up straight fully recovered, and boasted about her plan working.
Luz: That's advantage Luz!
The surrounding mist would clear up fully revealing the battlefield once more With Ed bound by vines and Luz pulling more leaf glyphs from her satchel. Confused Ed would question how she could still perform "magic" despite using up all those slips of paper, weren't they the primary source of it all?
His thinking would be cut short when Luz placed five glyphs on the ground, but rather than more vines or ice, giant Demon hands would burst from the ground and lunge claws stretched out at Ed! If he wasn't thrown off before, it was like Ed was doing complex calculations in his brain trying to figure out how the heck Luz jumped from elements to giant monster appendages. Using his spear to cut free from the vines Ed brought his hands down and five giant hands of his own sprang from below and advanced toward the demonic hands. The giant limbs would get into their own battle of sorts, two of the hands would destroy themselves upon smashing into each other, and another set got into a sort of arm wrestling contest, while the remaining ones would aim straight toward Ed and Luz.
Each of the demon hands would slash widely at Ed while he tried jumping and dodging for cover, but was caught when one of them grabbed him mid-jump, the texture of which made Ed uneasy, it felt a lot like being surrounded by mud, whereas, Luz was having her own troubles while trying to cover some distance between the hands, before she could run any farther one of them managed to pin her down earning it a groan of pain, both the state Alchemist and witch apprentice were in a rough spot unable to move, but they didn't come all this way just to be stopped by makeshift limbs, nothing was going to stop them from getting that stone. Clapping once more, the electricity around Ed's hands crackled wildly, and quickly he brought them down on the monstrous hand, the demon hand began to bubble and wriggle until soon after, it exploded, covering the field with the strange mud-like substance, much of it landing on Ed's cloak much to his dismay.
Edward: Great, note to self: Clean this off later.
Annoyed, Ed picked up his spear and jumped back out of the way of a slash from one of the demon hands and hopped on one of its fingers making his way down to its wrist, holding it back, Ed thrusts his spear right through the demon hands palm causing it to drop presumably dead, turning towards the last hand, Ed advanced while the loose limb reaches out with the intent to squeeze the life out him, Ed slid underneath the hand and stabbed his spear right through its midsection cutting it clean open, as it also drops to the ground lifeless. Meanwhile, Luz managed to pull out one of her arms and drew an ice glyph in the dirt forming a giant ice platform underneath the hand and pushing it off her. Acting fast Luz dodge-rolled past the hands' attempts to smash her and pulled out a plant glyph, placing it on a big tree the roots underneath rose quickly from the ground ensnaring all three hands together, with the earth constructs bound up, Luz pulled out a fire glyph and placed it down creating a giant fireball that launched high up in an arc and came crashing back down on the hands destroying them all in a burst of flames.
Both teens were panting Ed was leaning on his Spear and Luz was holding onto her knees, the sun seemed to be setting as well, who knows how long this had been dragging on, Ed stared at Luz who stared back, no matter what neither of them showed any indication of slowing down, as if they could do this all day.
But they didn't have that kind of time. Both of them had promised their younger sibling that they would return unharmed, they had a home to get back to and friends waiting for them. Too much was riding on the line for this to keep going, one way or another this was all going to end... Ed brought his hands together again, creating electricity, but before he acted he thought of a plan.
Edward: (Thinking: Alright, it's clear that the symbols on those leaves matched the ones on the paper slips, she's able to draw the elements through those, so disarming her won't do much good)
Bringing his hands down the ground around him began to take form.
Edward: (Thinking: But she can't draw anything if she can't move her arms!)
With that in mind, Ed Created a pillar underneath him rocketing him into the sky while sliding his left hand against his right creating an ice axe, seeing how Ed was trying the same trick as he did a while back she pulled out an ice glyph, prepared this time. Placing it down, an ice dome formed around her blocking Ed's strike and getting his pickaxe hand stuck in the ice, Luz smirked, that move may have gotten her the first time but not again, reaching for her satchel she was about to go back on the offense. However, In a flash of electricity, a wall rose from the ground while encasing Luz’s hands in the process, Luz struggled to free herself but briefly halted when she saw Ed using his ice axe arm to smash the ice dome to pieces.
Turning his hand back to normal Ed also smiled at his plan working, Luz grimaced, she had fallen for his trick so obviously and was in a tight situation to boot, and she couldn't free her hands no matter how hard she pulled back, all while Ed stood with his arms crossed, waiting for her to get the idea that she wasn't breaking her makeshift cuffs, not long after Luz exhaled and held her head down in exhaustion, this wasn’t getting anywhere obviously. Ed casually walked around Luz and reached his hands to her satchel, this was it, the stone was finally-
-Yeah like that was going to happen... Taking a deep breath, In an instant Luz suddenly just... Disappeared? Ed looked around frantically, where did she go? She couldn't have teleported right, she would have tried that sooner. His thinking would be interrupted by the sight of an ice spike appearing in place of Luz stabbing through the wall and breaking it in half, what the heck was going on?
Meanwhile, Luz would appear sitting behind a tree exhaling deeply, it was hard enough holding her breath during a fight, dashing as fast as her legs could take her didn't exactly help, but right now she had to figure out how to break these cuffs, using a glyph would draw too much attention to her and she wasn't strong enough to break them on her own. Except she wasn't on her own, from within her satchel her palisman Stringbean flew out chirping in confirmation that she was fully healed and ready to help, Luz was overjoyed to see her little pal alive and floating about but still had her restraints to deal with, Stringbean took note of this and the tip of her tail started to glow with strange purple energy.
Ed was seen tracking his way through the forest, Luz couldn't have gotten far while carrying a heavy chunk of earth around her wrists, and the footprints she left behind made her trail much easier to follow, but suddenly, a loud and bright flash of energy took Ed's attention, Ed wasted no time and ran over to the source, It had to be Luz. Running up to a tree where the source came from, Ed scanned around and found Luz's satchel but no Luz, she was nowhere to be found, looking around to make sure there was no possible sign of a sneak attack or barrage of elements, Ed concluded that the explosion might've been Luz's attempt at freeing herself but... It didn't end well, the thought of Luz accidentally blowing herself up to try and escape made Ed grimace. No, she had to be fine, she wasn't any easier to keep down than before, a small explosion wouldn't do any better, easing his mind Ed rummaged through the bag.
Edward: C'mon... Where is it?
Ed dug deep trying to grab what he had come for but came up with nothing, dumping all the bag contents out, Ed only found a few leaves and a pen and paper with a smugly drawn Luz on it, Ed inspected the inside of the satchel further until he felt his thumb crumple something on the exterior, at first it looked to be nothing there but soon after, dozens of glyphs would appear around the bag! The sound of coughing would alert Ed, seeing Luz reappear out of thin air once more and holding her staff in one hand and the stone in the other.
Luz: Looking for this?
Placing the stone in her pocket, she tapped her Palisman on the ground and the glyphs on her satchel glowed orange, Ed's eyes widened, he had seen this trick enough times to know what this meant and quickly tossed the satchel behind him though not far enough as the blast sent him flying towards Luz. Twirling her staff Luz swung it like a bat and from it, a large whirlwind formed grabbing Ed in its winds and sending him flying around the battlefield, it almost grabbed Luz as well had she not created vines to anchor herself, whereas Ed was not so lucky as he screamed at the top of his lungs while getting smacked with sticks and rocks in the process. Ed rubbed his aching head and saw a large tree trunk hurtling towards him, acting fast he changed his prosthetic arm into a metal hook and dug into the bark, vaulting above and riding it like a sort of surfboard through the raging tempest.
Using alchemy once more, Ed transformed the log into a giant spear and morphed his arm into a metal lasso wrapping it around the tip to redirect it out of the whirlwind and towards Luz, halting the wind funnel, Luz quickly created a small tree in front of her to block its path while Ed hopped off before the spear struck straight through it and jumped off one of the branches, changing his arm into the end of a halberd and landing a small distance from Luz. Rushing in Ed slashed at Luz while she veered and ducked all of his strikes even using Stringbean to block a few of them, eventually, Ed managed to slash Luz’s right arm leaving a large gash and spilling a fair amount of blood causing the human witch to howl loudly in anguish, still, this wasn't going to make her stop, retaliating, she created an ice pillar in front Ed who narrowly backed out of the way but failed to dodge as Luz created a second pillar from the center smashing straight into state alchemists chest, causing him to hurl up the same quantity of blood.
Though he held his pained chest, much like Luz, Ed’s resolve persevered, bringing his hands down upon the earth again, several loaded catapults rose from the ground and fired toward his opponent, Luz pointed her staff upward at the oncoming projectiles and unleashed a massive torrent of water, pushing them all off course, Ed had anticipated this however and managed to close the distance and struck Luz in the gut with a roundhouse kick knocking the wind out of her, and with his prosthetic hand changed into a thick metal gauntlet, punched Luz square right in the jaw, reeling her back and causing her to spit out both blood and saliva. The hit knocked her on her stomach but she quickly retaliated by creating a fiery vortex around herself forcing Ed to back up, she followed this up by creating a large Ice wall inciting Ed to hold up his arms in defense for another possible strike to his chest, rather instead, several jagged Ice pillars rose around the battlefield, and Ed found his ankle snagged by a vine, having no time to free himself, he was swung by the foot, smashing him through all the ice pillars shattering them like glass and leaving multiple cuts on his body and shredding his cloak, the vine's grip would loosen as it tossed Ed through the frozen wall, where Luz was waiting holding her staff behind her with her good arm, except the top where a dormant Stringbean was located was encased in ice acting as a makeshift club, swinging hard Luz hit Ed right in his face as he was flying, shattering the ice and making him tumble across the ground on his face.
Luz stared at Ed’s downed body, making sure he was down for the count, this was a bad option as it left her open for a small cannonball shot, hitting her side and sending her on her stomach cracking a rib and causing more blood to spit up from her mouth. Ed got up on his knees while Luz sat back up, the proteges breathing heavily with blood trickling down their mouths and clutching their most pained areas, their wounds steadily reminding them that even slight movement would hurt like hell. The silence was almost deafening if not for the sounds of rustling leaves in the wind. Luz would pull the stone from her pocket, staring at it in frustration as she was first to break the silence.
Luz: Why?
Ed's eyes softened, his guard still up but still curious about Luz’s inquiry.
Luz: Why go through all this? I get you want this stone and it sounds like you really need it, but is it worth all this?! All the fighting, the damage, It's just some stupid magic rock!
Luz’s anger was more than justified, precious time had been wasted, their brothers were likely worried to death, and both of them had been tearing each other apart for something that they merely assumed was the thing they were looking for. Ed stared at the wounds on his and Luz’s bodies and pondered, his fist clenching and anger building. Eventually, he snapped back.
Edward: It's not just some rock!
Luz stifled at the tone of Ed’s response, almost like he was insulted by what Luz called it.
Edward: You don't understand the power that stone holds. Much more than you could ever imagine. All of the tragedy and suffering that brought it about; the lives lost in its pursuit and making! I won't let it harm anyone else ever again! That's why I have to get it!
Opening her palm, Luz stared at the stone once again, her reflection warped off its shiny red exterior, its properties were unknown to her, but just staring at it gave her a feeling of unease, maybe Ed was right, all this fighting could have ended before it began if she had just given him the stone.
But those thoughts were overridden with images of her experiences, the thousands of innocent people in the Isles, the lives of countless magical creatures, her friends, and her family. And Belos, the man who wanted nothing more than to snuff them all out for his own twisted beliefs. This stone had a dark origin, but there was too much riding on the line, it was a risk but if this artifact was really that powerful, maybe, just maybe she could save everyone.
Luz: You don’t understand either, I played a role in helping an evil emperor do horrible things and putting everyone in this world at risk because of it! If I had just stayed back home, my friends, these people,…They wouldn't be in danger.
Ed’s guard lowered, Luz’s tone making it clear that she was being genuine.
Luz: That's why I have to take the risk, if there's any chance that I can stop him and save everyone I’m more than willing to take it, I can tell you want to keep everyone safe too, But I have too much riding on the line for me to just give up now!
It was those words right there that made Ed realize, they both had the same goal and people close to them that they wanted nothing more than to protect, she wasn't some girl who was getting in his way. She was just like him.
But, this didn't make Luz the exception, the threat that stone possessed was too great to leave in the hands of anyone, whether their intentions were good or not, his mind was already made up. While his injuries made it hard, Ed pushed through and stood up straight clutching his aching chest, Luz would do the same leaning on Stringbean for support with her good arm.
Edward: We both have a common aspiration, I can see that now. And I wish It didn't have to be this way, but only one of us is walking away with that stone in hand, and I promise, I’ll do everything in my power to make sure it's me.
With that said, Ed brought his hands together once more tapping into the energy from his very soul, the electricity crackling much more intensely than normal, and to the surprise of Luz, placed them on himself, Ed's body started to patch itself up in almost no time it was like they were ever there.
Edward: I'm giving it everything I’ve got and I expect you to do the same, so get yourself fixed up, and let's finish this!
Luz stayed silent, shakingly lifting her palisman, she tapped the ground and summoned dozens of light orbs, each one flying into her and stitching her wounds with a luminous glow, in no time she steadily stood up and held her staff tightly, her sights set on her goal. Defeating Ed.
With nothing left to talk about, Ed was first to slam his electricity-coated hands on the ground with newfound determination, Luz got on the defensive, readying herself for any possible weapons or tools Ed could make, but something unexpected happened, the ground around them began to shake almost like ed had caused earthquake, Luz struggled to keep herself upright, while Ed kept his hands down firmly, the electricity spreading wildly. Trees fell, and rocks crumbled, In almost an instant a giant wall rose around the terrain, surrounding the two in a makeshift arena. Luz looked around, both amazed and concerned, what did Ed have planned?
She quickly got an answer, when dozens of pillars and hands emerged from the ground towards her, rather than panic, Luz hopped on her palisman and made her way into the sky avoiding them altogether, this did not ensure her safety however, from her left launched at her direction almost hitting her square on, and then another, and soon another, from all around the arena, pillars were emerging from the walls, Luz just barely managing to dodge them. Luz quickly noticed that the sky was becoming more enclosed with pillars when she almost rammed into one, backing up she hit her head on another, looking around she saw that the top of the arena had been cluttered with pillars.
With less space to move, Luz took the hit of another pillar coming from behind knocking her out of the air with her palisman in hand, activating the safety hover, she suspended herself in the air and swung her palisman upward sending a wave of fire at the pillar riddled sky blowing several of them to pieces and sending the debris down on top of Ed. With his hand still on the ground, Ed created a box around himself letting the pillar chunks fall off harmlessly, lowering it, Ed noticed that Luz had vanished, but he stood calmly, anticipating where she could have gone, turning around he saw Luz reappear while exhaling and quickly created a large cannon.
Luz however was quicker to react, creating a giant tree and sending its roots forward, tearing apart the cannon and almost ensnaring Ed had he not jumped on top of one of them. running atop the roots Ed slid his hands across one of them and created a harpoon, hopped into the air, and launched it at Luz, she countered this by creating a vine to grab it and return it to sender, Ed, in turn, changed his metal arm into a shield to block it, this left him open to being grabbed by a demon hand courtesy of Luz and tossed a far distance away. Ed straightened himself in the air and landed in a crouch position and soon after dozens of cannons spawned from the wall behind him and fired sending forth a wave of cannon balls, in retaliation Luz stomped the end of her palisman down and created multiple fireballs and sent them up. Explosions and debris would fill the skies from the colliding projectiles.
Luz held her palisman above her to block some of the falling rubble, whereas Ed wasted no time to close the distance getting up close to Luz and sending a punch her way, Luz blocked it with her palisman and swung it twice at Ed while the top was imbued with fire creating a burning mace of sorts all of which Ed also avoided. The two were not letting up, Ed sent a barrage of punches and slashed forward with his arm turned into a knife, while Luz swung her palisman around encasing it with fire, ice, and thorns, neither being able to get a hit in but not slowing down either.
Ed eventually kicked Stringbean out of reach, and went in for a right hook, only for Luz to swiftly duck and hold her hand towards her palisman which returned almost immediately and created an ice spike between her inciting Ed to jump back, tapping into alchemy's destructive side, Ed placed his hands on the frozen spike causing it to explode into shards and forcing luz to create a plant wall in defense.
Ed used this to his advantage however and placed his hands on the wall of vines, making them ensnare Luz and suspending her in the air.
Edward: Not so fun when it happens to you huh?
Luz simply rolled her eyes and used Stringbean to create an ice cleaver from the ground cutting the vines in half and freeing her. Landing in a hero pose, Luz sent a torrent of water at Ed, while Ed used the remaining plant matter to create a U-Bend pipe to send it back at her, countering with a blast of fire, The area was shrouded in a mist obscuring the view of both of them, Ed was more on edge as this had happened last time whereas Luz struggled to even open her eyes.
Pacing around, the two would see familiar figures in the mist and simultaneously send a wave of earth and ice towards it, Luz took the hit to her face sending her flying back and drawing blood from her mouth and nose, while Ed took a similar attack to his chest, reopening an old wound and making him cough up blood again. The proteges were downed and hurt, but not so much so that they couldn't get right back up completely ignoring the pain, the mist faded making their opponent clear, their breathing heavy, Ed’s teeth ground while Luz clenched her palisman tightly to where she could almost break it, this was it, no more playing around, no more delaying, no more tricks, they knew that this all had to end now.
Adrenaline fueling their bodies, and all inhibitions and judgment clouded with thoughts of taking the other down, Ed held his hands back and clapped with intense vigor, the electricity surrounding his hands more intense than ever, while Luz tapped her palisman on the ground encasing it with an ethereal purple glow and holding it with valor, taking a step back both the state alchemist and good witch would almost appear as blurs as they dashed forward at their main goal, approaching further and further, silhouettes of their siblings and found family would appear beside them only fueling their speed and inciting them to let out a scream with a firmness of purpose, closer and closer, they approached, Ed's metal hand reeled back and Luz’s palisman held behind her.
Ed with a proud thrust, reached his hand out narrowly missing Luz by a hair; she had ducked under the final move and pushed her palisman into Ed’s stomach, knocking the wind out of him and sending him on his back. Nothing seemed to happen at first, but soon a glyph with multiple symbols would glow on his chest, holding his pained head. Ed tried to get back up but something was off, his legs… They felt heavier and to make it even weirder he couldn't even move them, looking up he saw a sight that caused him to freak out a bit, his legs were turned into stone, and not just that the stone casing would begin to slowly creep its way up to his lower body.
Luz’s eyes widened and her pupils shrunk, it didn't take her long to realize what she had just done. The sheer drive and will to win had made her use the one glyph she never even wanted to acknowledge: Petrification. Luz dropped Stringbean and made her way over to Ed crouching over him.
Luz: Oh no…No, no, no, No! I didn’t mean… I didn’t want to… I’m so sorry!
Edward: Didn’t what? What's happening?!
Luz: It’s… Petrification, a spell that turns anything into stone…
Ed's eyes snapped back to his legs, she was right, the stone casing had already made its way up to his lower quadrants, Ed began to panic inside, but Luz seemed to be even more upset about the situation.
Luz: It’s okay! I think I can fix this, if I work fast maybe I can find a glyph that can reverse it.
In a state of trepidation, Luz started to draw random glyphs on the ground, trying to activate them but failing to do so as they were crudely made, only making it worse when she tried making them faster. Ed was breathing heavily, he looked at Luz, then himself, and the area around him, all the destruction to the environment, the damage they dealt to each other, all of it, because of that damn stone, in the end, he was right, all it did was cause destruction and suffering in its pursuit, looking at Luz once more, he saw her trying everything in her power to fix the mess she created, she… Truly was like him wasn’t she?
With all that in mind, Ed's breathing slowed and he laid his head back on the ground.
Ed: Hey.
Luz snapped her head back at Ed, she was still in a panic with her eyes starting to tear up, but Ed was calm, in fact, he was smiling a bit. Why?
Ed: Listen, we both did a lot trying to get that stupid rock, and in the end, all it did was cause us even more trouble, but, when I first saw you with it, I thought you were just some girl who didn't have a clue what she was doing, but, throughout this whole battle you proved me wrong, you and I have a lot in common, maybe we could have even been friends. But it’s over for me, and I only have myself to blame.
Luz: What?! This isn’t the time for saying whose fault this is! I can fix this! I just have to keep-
Before she finished, Ed placed a hand on her lap, his lower chest already encased, reassuring her even with her protests.
Edward: I appreciate what you’re trying to do, but I don’t think It would matter. I overexerted myself back there and I doubt I would have had much time regardless. It sucks but, if it's any consolation, this was a great fight, you’re quicker on your feet than you look.
Luz tried to wipe away some of her tears, her smile slightly wavering.
Luz: Thanks… You hit really hard too, I can still feel my jaw aching.
Edward: Heh, sorry about that… Listen, can you do one last thing for me?
Luz: What is it?
Edward: I have a brother out here somewhere, I last left him in that marketplace, I want you to find him and promise me, that you’ll keep him and everyone here safe, that emperor guy sounds like a real jackass. His name is Alphonse and he's a giant walking suit of armor, I know that sounds weird but-
Luz: Trust me, I believe it, I’ve seen crazier things in my time.
Luz managed to wipe her tears away completely, and got up, walking over to her palisman, picking it up she looked back at Ed.
Luz: I promise, I’ll find him.
With that final note said, Ed smiled at Luz who smiled back, laid his head down, and placed his arms on his chest, sighing with relief he closed his eyes as the petrification took him over completely reducing his body to stone, Edward Elric the State Alchemist, was no more.
Luz began to walk away, looking back at Ed’s remains one more time, and tapped her palisman gently on the ground. Hopping aboard it, she made her way out of the arena and towards the market, while the camera pans back to Ed’s body to reveal that it had been covered in flowers as a final respect to a worthy opponent.

Boomstick: (uncontrollable sobbing) Wiz, why? Why did we force these two pure, innocent kids to fight to the death?!
Wiz: It’s our job Boomstick… Our horrible, horrible job…
Boomstick: Ugh, right. Anyways! What gives Wiz? I thought for sure Ed had this one in the bag.
Wiz: I'm in the same boat as you are, at first glance, Ed's chances at winning seemed to be higher, he was easily stronger, vastly more experienced with his abilities, and had a much more strategic mind. Frankly, running this fight over and over again, Ed would certainly take the win a good handful of times.
Boomstick: But by now you all know that theres more to it, so let's take a look at their abilities, science vs magic.
Wiz: While alchemy and glyphs are different in their properties they're similar in a lot of ways, both could deal serious amounts of damage and could also heal, and both could be channeled through specific symbols drawn on any surface, so trying to disarm the other wouldn't do much, and they possessed methods of one-shotting the other with destruction alchemy and petrification, likewise they also counter each other in a few regards, Ed could simply deconstruct or manipulate Luz's ice, plant and even water magic, using it for himself.
Boomstick: But, alchemy works by manipulating matter, so Luz could keep just as well keep Ed at bay with light, fire, and wind, all of which Ed would have no chance of manipulating since two of them are forms of energy, and I doubt Ed would be able to turn air into weapons or tools, Hmm doesn't this sound familiar.
Wiz: And while both of them could heal, Ed's was much riskier with it reducing his lifespan the more it's used. While Luz could use her light glyphs to fix herself up without limit. In fact, because of the lack of rules or laws, it meant Luz could use her glyphs in any way she needed without restrictions giving her much more variety, while Ed would always need to follow the laws of equivalent exchange.
Boomstick: On the other hand, Ed's alchemy was much more versatile, Luz had some useful spells, but Ed could create anything out of anything with just a touch of his hands, swords, walls, cannons, statues, you name it, and his precise control with alchemy meant that he would have a greater control over the battlefield. In almost every regard, alchemy and glyphs are on a similar level. except for two main factors. Power and Range,
Wiz: To figure out their power let's look at some of their best comparable feats, for Luz, we can scale her glyphs to King, who once shatter an enormous titan finger with just a single shout. As King himself, is a titan and Luz draws her power from the titan's corpse it's reasonable to say that they would be on a similar level of power, the finger was able to disperse large cloud formations upon its activation which, based on the height of the clouds and the time it took to activate we can calculate that King would have needed to exert over 960 megatons of TNT to destroy it. As for Ed, let's take a look at the time he turned about 2 tons worth of coal into gold, now at first glance it doesn't seem all that impressive, turning material into something else entirely, but remember, alchemy is the process of changing matter on the subatomic level, so Edward would have to be actively tearing apart the bonds between protons and neutrons and reconstructing them in the same motion, to change that much coal into solid gold, Ed's alchemy would have to achieve a energy output of over 5 gigatons of TNT.
Boomstick: So Ed had some wicked power on his side, and would definitely deal a killing blow if he could get a good hit in, but the thing is, Ed probably wouldn't even get that chance, that's where Luz's real advantage in this fight came in clutch. She was just too dame fast for him to tag. Ed's got some pretty nifty reactionary time and legwork sure, but Luz had the same kind of speeds, multiplied by 50x
Wiz: Recall Edwards's fastest known speed which was when he dodged a point-blank bullet putting him around subsonic speeds, but it's also possible that he's much faster by comparing him to his father Van Hohenheim, who could block natural lightning putting him at around Mach 1920.
Boomstick: Now that's pretty fast, you'd think that would mean Ed would be faster even when compared to Eda's measly Mach 624 right? Well, you'd be wrong cause this dorky Witch is a whole lot faster than that. Remember Eda's slightly hotter sister Lillith?
Wiz: In a previous encounter, Lillith was able to block a blast of light from Luz's light glyphs from a distance of about 3 feet. Now while Light glyphs being made of magic makes this a little iffy, they have displayed many properties similar to light, casting shadows, illuminating dark areas, and producing heat, with all that in mind to block a blast of light at that distance, Lillith would have to have been moving at a little over 4% the speed of light. With that kind of attack speed, Luz could just as easily land more solid hits that Ed could only hope to make himself.
Boomstick: So it wouldn't matter if Ed could hit harder than Luz could take, he'd never get the opportunity to even get close, and with her Palisman providing flight and invisibility glyph making her undetectable, meant she could just outright avoid Eds attacks altogether, she's just too quick to hit, and to add onto that, Luz just had way better range, Ed's alchemy can compare to his mentor Izumi, whose alchemy could span an entire mountain, not bad, but then theres the time a single one of Luz's light glyphs flew from ground level up into the sky in seconds.
Boomstick: Now while we don't know the exact height that it flew, it seems fair to assume that it made a far distance away, likely up to the upper troposphere which can reach up to 12 miles high, I'd say that's a lot higher than a mountain. So it didn't matter how powerful Ed was, he'd never get the opening needed to land a meaningful blow, while Luz could strike from as far away as she wanted from any distance, whittling him down, or landing her instant kill option first.
Wiz: Edward was without a doubt, one of Luz's most challenging opponents and would certainly take the victory in most other instances, but Luz's superior speed, range, and variety of glyphs were just enough to put the State Alchemist to rest for good.
Boomstick: He put the pedal to the "Metal" but "Alche-missed" his chance and wound up being the real "Luzer" of this fight, guess its "lights" out for Ed.
Wiz: The winner is Luz Noceda.
Original Track[]
The track for this fight is "Drawn to the Elements" It would be a steady-paced instrumental track with an emphasis on drums, violins, and electric guitars (similar to both The Owl House and Fullmetal Alchemist intros) referencing both combatants' high-energy but sometimes serious nature.
The track's title references both Edward and Luz's immense interest in the magic-like systems in their world that often use the elements (Alchemy and Magic respectively) and desire to learn more about it while also referencing how they need to draw specific symbols to utilize it (Edward having sometimes to draw a transmutation circle while Luz always needs to draw glyphs)
The cover art shows a transmutation circle drawn on the floor emitting electricity with the ice, fire, and plant glyph with the spells being activated, with orbs of light from the light glyph hovering around while a stone staff of Stringbean emerges from the ground.
