Dugtrio VS Monty Mole is a What-If Death Battle featuring Dugtrio from Pokemon and Monty Mole from Mario.

Different forms for Monty Mole from the different Mario games will be included.

Description[]

Pokemon VS Mario! You can be a trainer or a plumber with a cap, and encounter many creatures in your way. And in these creatures there are these two Nintendo moles, but who between the two will be the strongest?

Interlude[]

(Cues Invader – Jim Johnston)

Wiz: Moles. Animals that, like all of them, regulate nature and provide...

Boomstick: Destruction to your gardens! Well, at least that's the case for these two Nintendo moles!

Wiz: Dugtrio, the Mole Pokemon.

Boomstick: And the Monty Mole, a minion of Bowser. He’s Wiz and I’m Boomstick.

Wiz: And it’s our job to analyze their weapons, armor, and skills to find out who will win a Death Battle.

Dugtrio[]

(Cues Pokemon RedFire & LeafGreen - Diglett’s Cave)

Wiz: If you are a young Pokemon Trainer who likes to travel into the world, prepare yourself to meet a lot of Pokemon in caves and mountains.

Boomstick: Like Diglett, the Mole Pokemon, a Ground and Controversial type Pokemon. Yes, you heard me right: controversial. Even the Internet couldn’t resolve the question: where are its hands and feet? Just the head pops up from the ground!

Wiz: When a Diglett reaches level 26, it evolves into the 51st Pokemon, Dugtrio, the Mole Pokemon, again. 2’04’’ and 73.4 kg, a Dugtrio is actually triplets who emerge from the single body of the former Diglett, and because of that all the heads think the same. And to answer your question, yes, it has feet; a Diglett confirms that in Pokemon Mystery Dungeon.

Boomstick: So why could Brock throw a Dugtrio by the base, which was basically nothing but tiny rocks, in the anime? I told you this Pokemon was controversial! Anyway, Dugtrio is one-hell of a special Pokemon! They can burrow endlessly to at least 60 miles underground! Not enough for you? They can unleash natural earthquakes just by digging! Do you want some more? Their heads, exposed to the surface, can return underground at the speed of light!

Wiz: Well, for that last feat, that’s the trainer Gary who stated that in the anime. And if we don’t know if a Dugtrio can go that fast, one thing is certain: it’s a fast Pokemon. It has the best base speed of all Ground-type Pokemons, has a good attack and special defense, while it lacks some defense and special attack.

Boomstick: Yeah, it isn’t without its weaknesses. A Dugtrio is basically a triple Diglett, so like its pre-vo before it, it doesn’t like light and prefers dark places to fight. Moreover, because of his Ground Type, he’s weak to water, grass and ice attacks. But I imagine it’s nothing when you’re resistant to rock and poison attacks and most of all immune to electricity! Goddamnit, that is one mole... one moles... uh... that I wouldn’t like to have in my garden.

Wiz: Actually Diglett and Dugtrio are raised in farms because they are good at fertilizing the ground by digging. But that’s true that Dugtrio has many attacks that can damage the environment...

(Cues Rival Battle – Pokemon Stadium)

Boomstick: Or the enemy ! It has some physical attacks which involve his hidden claws like Scratch, Slash or the Dark attack Night-Slash, the two later having an improved critical ratio. A Dugtrio can also surprise you with the Ghost-type attack Astonish, which has a 30% chance to make you flinch! And because moles are cunning, they have another Dark attack, Sucker Punch, that makes the Pokemon attacks first, but fails if the opponent doesn’t prepare an attack.

Wiz: It also has other attacks like Tri-Attack, a triple beam that can burn, paralyze, or freeze you. Growl can decrease the attack of the target by...growling, basically. But its real force comes from its Ground attacks. Sand Attack decreases the opponent’s accuracy, Mud-Slap hurls mud in the face of the opponent, lows his accuracy and damages him. Bulldoze strikes everything on the ground by stomping it down, damages the enemy and makes him slower.

Boomstick: Sand Tomb provokes a violent sandstorm which continues to damage the enemy for at least 4 turns by Pokemon rules, Mud Bomb is well...a mud bomb which is launched at the opponent and can lower his accuracy too. Earth Power makes the ground literally ERUPT in a Knuckles the Echidna’s fashion under the enemy and lowers the enemy’s special defense. And finally, Dig, that makes Dugtrio digs into the ground and then returns to freaking headbutt the enemy!

Wiz: The weakness of Dig is that, when Dugtrio is underground, it is more vulnerable to ground-shaking attacks. Good thing Dugtrio learned two of them. Magnitude shakes the ground but its power depends on a random magnitude of the attack, and Earthquake, one of the most powerful Ground attacks, that literally hits everything around the quake.

Boomstick: But...

Wiz: Yeah that’s not its most powerful attack, which is Fissure, Dugtrio's signature attack.

Boomstick: Five tries. Low accuracy. But it's a one-shot kill if it works. Doing a joke here will be too easy. It freaking fissure the ground in two and makes it the doom of the enemy §

Wiz: Add to that the Arena Trap ability that doesn’t allow an enemy to escape except if he can fly or levitate, and the abilities Sand Veil and Sand Storm that basically makes it able to avoid better and improved his ground attacks. Relying on most of the time in striking its enemy unexpectedly, Dugtrio is definitely a Pokemon worth of being in your team.

Boomstick: And it can play baseball with you!

Wiz: Wait, what? My last sentence was cool and moreover that was a Diglett in the manga and...

Boomstick: HOW CAN IT EVEN PLAY BASEBALL WITHOUT SHOWING ITS HANDS? THESE MOLES ARE MAGIC!

Wiz: Go back in your Poke Ball and let’s move on.

Red encounters a wild Dugtrio.

Monty Mole[]

(Cues Monty Mole’s Theme – Mario Strikers Charged)

Boomstick: The Mushroom Kingdom, a land where the peace is always distracted by a big magic turtle who’s always defeated by a red plumber and his friends. But the big turtle, aka Bowser, never gives up and always tries to reconquer it with his awesome army. I don’t know if it's stupidity, tenacity or determination.

Wiz: His army is composed of multiple creatures, based for the most part on plants and animals, and one of them interests us today: the Monty Mole. The Monty Mole is a minion of Bowser who first appeared in Super Mario World. They are coward moles who hide in the ground before attacking, and mostly live underground.

Boomstick: Yeah, a Monty Mole in its basic isn’t that impressive, as it can be defeated by one attack. It pops up from the ground when you approach it and throws rocks at you. Or chases you. Like an aggressive fangirl of an overrated pop-star.

Wiz: But these moles actually hide their game well. They are immune to poison as the venomous fog where they attack in Super Mario 64 doesn’t affect them at all. They can also hit you with a hammer as shown in the Monty’s Revenge minigame in Mario Party. But most important, they are also expert in machinery.

Boomstick: Oh yeah! They have been shown to control a drilling machine in the Mario&Luigi series, and fix a Junior Clown Car after it blew up! And they also drive a...

Wiz : Ssssh. We will get to that later.

Boomstick: Oh.

Wiz: Monty Moles have also been shown to be quite strong even if they can be defeated by one hit, as they can stun an opponent just by popping from the ground, or make karts flinch. They are also experts in sports, like baseball, which give them the « Ball Dash » ability that makes them go extremely fast in pursuit of the baseball. They are skilled in football too, where they are power players and have the « Dirt Drill » ability, which makes them dig into the ground toward the goal, then shoot. They are, in fact, really good at digging and can pop up and hides in the ground very fast.

Boomstick: And?

Wiz: And that’s all for Monty Mole.

Boomstick: But we haven’t even talked about when...

Wiz: Later Boomstick, later. Because yes, the Monty Mole we were talking about is the most basic of the species. The Mega Mole is basically a big Monty Mole with sunglasses who’s invulnerable to the plumbers’ jumping, stomping, and fireballs, and can only be defeated by cape spinning attack, star, grab blocks or shells.

Boomstick: The Morty Mole is also a giant version of a Monty Mole, who can be defeated by 2 stomps. The first one makes him shorter and faster, but he grows back to big after a short time.

Wiz: There are also the Rocky Wrenches. These were special Koopas a moment ago, but with time, they just became Monty Moles with goggles who hid in the ground with a manhole cover. They can shoot slow, small wrenches, but also Bob-Ombs...and coins.

Boomstick: Just enough to pay for their tanks! Wiz, can I talk about it now?

Wiz:...you just did.

(Cues Castle Boss Battle – New Super Mario Bros)

Boomstick: Hehe I’m clever. In Super Mario Sunshine first, they can manipulate a red cannon that shoots Bullet Bills and Glorpedos, which are basically spiky balls of pollution. And if you approach  the head of the cannon, the Monty Mole will shoot you with Bob-Ombs !

Wiz: But they can be disabled by the water shoots of the F.L.U.D.D. or defeated by 3 Bob-Ombs' explosions.

Boomstick: But that’s not a problem because here comes the mighty Monty Tank, from New Super Mario Bros. This Monty Mole is actually the boss of the 6th World in this game. The tank has first one launcher which can shoot Bullet Bills and Bob-Ombs, but each time the Monty Mole shows his head and is hit, a cannon is added to finally have a tank with three levels of cannons! Moreover, each time the Mole is hit, the tank goes furious and shoots literally forward and backward everywhere. Ow, and the tank is invincible if the Monty Mole doesn’t show its head. Do you feel my excitement ???

Wiz: Actually, the Monty Tank can be defeated if the Mole is hit three times, and it can be one-shot by a stomp of Mario in the effect of the Mega Mushroom, even if the tank is supposedly invincible when the mole's head doesn't pop out.

Boomstick: You must be a lot of fun at parties.

Wiz : What ? I simply do my job. To reassure you, the Monty Mole species have one trick left in their arsenal. And one which is linked directly to partying : the Mega Monty Mole’s Maze Mischief.

(Cues Toughie Showdown – Mario Party 10)

Boomstick:...That’s a long name. Still shorter than Super Saiyan God Super Saiyan Goku, though.

Wiz: Appearing in Mario Party 10, this boss Monty Mole is a giant Monty Mole, and when I say giant, it’s several times bigger than Mario, Luigi or Peach. It is in a flowerpot, which flies thanks to a balloon and it can shoot an enormous bomb that shakes an entire maze the size of a flying ship. The maze survives, though, so the shaking is probably due to magic. Mario and his friends have to travel through the maze in 15 seconds to reach the four cannons that will shoot bombs of different sizes at the Mega Monty Mole.

Boomstick: This boss has to receive the equivalent of 54 mini-bombs in the face to be taken down. And when it receives 27, it becomes enraged and its bomb in the explosion produces six smaller bombs. But their explosions aren’t really impressive.

Wiz: Yeah, the reach of these bombs are basically the size of the bomb itself, but it can stun the Mario Party’s characters... But that’s a gameplay feature here.

Boomstick: With that of an arsenal and a taste for bombs and machinery, I don’t see why a Monty Mole is that much of a coward.

Wiz: Perhaps because despite their speed and power, these species are still lead by a giant turtle which is far stronger than all of them?

Boomstick: Well, I don’t care, they have tanks.

A large balloon rises from the cloud, and Mega Monty Mole emerges from the flower pot to begin the Mini-Game.

Intermission[]

Wiz: Alright, the combatants are set! Let's end this debate, once and for all!

Boomstick: IT'S TIME FOR A DEATH BATTLE! ...Mole style.

Dugtrio - Monty Mole

DEATH BATTLE[]

Pre-Fight[]

(Cues VS Ho-Oh – Pokemon Heartgold)

Night approaches. In an unknown desert, a young man who seems to be a trainer walks, tired, looking for a Pokemon to catch. It’s the evening, and the weather seems to profile a beautiful and calm sunset. Calm? Well, it was calm until the young trainer sees now what seems to be an extremely numerous army going right into his direction, really fast. Most terrifying, a big turtle floats in a enormous flying machine.

Bowser: Let’s conquer the Mushroom Kingdom! Muhahahaha!

Kamek: Well, I’m not sure if it’s the right direction, master...

Bowser: Shut up! Bring the giant cannon!

And then, a giant red cannon is put into this desert. A Monty Mole passes next to it and touches it with satisfaction. As the army continues to charge, the young trainer, afraid, decides to run. But then he falls into a hole in the ground. The hole is deep enough to put the young trainer in an underground cave, where he finds some Digletts, who stare at him, surprised. Little by little, the noise made by Bowser’s army ceases.

Bowser: Raaaah. What a pitiful army, can't take down some pesky moles!

Kamek : That's why I told you we weren’t in the right …

Bowser: I get it Kamek! We’re changing our direction.

Kamek: Hehehehe. I just put this here in case. And then he shoots a spell into the ground, next to the cannon, which spooks the little Monty Mole and creates a tank and a little flower pot.

(Music stops)

As he says that, the Diglett returns from the battlefield to the cave. Only one Pokemon is still in the battlefield.

Trainer: Thanks for saving me. I have to return to the surface now...

But the Digletts refuse to let him pass, as they look, worried, to the top of the cave, where they know the best of all of them is on the surface. This one is Dugtrio. The Pokemon moves quietly, digging into the ground and popping its heads briefly to see if there’s any danger. It eventually sees the cannon, and next to it, the Monty Mole, who’s in admiration of the tank. The Bowser’s minion notices it and seems angry. The Pokemon is too.

(Cues Ditty for Daddy – Bleach)

Both stare at each other and suddenly digs quickly into the ground, then when they were close enough to each other the Dugtrio pops its heads, the Monty Mole jumps out of the ground...

FIGHT ![]

...and their claws collide. Even if Dugtrio’s are put out and in the ground too quick to be seen. The Monty Mole continues to scratch at Dugtrio’s, but the Pokemon fights back too with Scratch. And as one of Monty Mole‘s claws finally touches the Dugtrio, it doesn’t do any effect on the Pokemon, who replies with a Sand Attack, hurling sand into the Monty head. Cowardly, the Monty Mole steps back and digs underground, while doing so it throws a rock at the Pokemon who takes it in the faces, even if it doesn’t do much damage. The Dugtrio then decides to chase the Mole and rushes underground to the minion. As it continues to dig and escape, the Mole finally stops and pops its head out of the ground. Suddenly, the Dugtrio pops fastly and randomly from different spots around it, and uses Growl, making the Attack of the Monty Mole decreases. The Monty Mole tries to throw some rocks at the Dugtrio, but the Pokemon avoids some and even destroys one with a Mud-Slap.

But Dugtrio didn’t see the Monty Mole digging again, and so the Mole reappears behind him. The Monty Mole jumps out of the ground with a hammer and slams the Dugtrio back underground with it, hurting the Pokemon. But the later reappears quickly on the surface, and as the Monty Mole prepares another hit with its hammer, the Dugtrio uses Sucker Punch, punching with its invisible hand (or hands?) the Monty Mole back.

The Monty Mole is laying on the ground, as Dugtrio is glad to have done the work. But the Monty Mole is far from its last breath, as it weakly takes out sunglasses and put it in his head. The Monty Mole has become a Mega Mole.

(Cues VS Trainer! - Pokemon X & Y Remix 2014 by Kunning Fox)

Now light brown and bigger, Mega Mole rushes at the Dugtrio. Its claws collide once more with Dugtrio’s. Dugtrio continues to use Scratch, but is soon overpowered by the Mega’s claws and is knocked back, making a linear hole on the ground. It then digs to pop out and use Slash at the Mega Mole who counters with its own claws again. Dugtrio uses Slash multiple times and suddenly:

« Critical hit! »

The critical Slash knocks the Mega Mole back, and the latter tries to punch the Pokemon, who keeps returning underground each time the minion wants to hit it. The Pokemon then burrows deeply into the ground. The Mega Mole is confused, but it hears a noise under itself. Dugtrio then attacks with Dig, knocking the Mole back again. As the Mega Mole tries to stand up, Dugtrio uses Astonish to surprize it so much that it damages it and turns it again into an unconscious Monty Mole.

But the Dugtrio doesn’t celebrate too fast this time, and it is right because the red cannon reacts to Kamek’s sorcery and fires a Super Mushroom at the laying Mole, transforming it this time into a Morty Mole. Dugtrio charges at him with a Mud-Slap, hurting him with mud and shortening him. But this result just makes the Morty Mole faster, and it punches Dugtrio. It tries to punch the Pokemon again, but the Dugtrio this time prepares Dig and burrows into the ground. Prepared for the attack, the Morty Mole jumps as the Dugtrio pops out violently from the ground, provoking an earthquake at the same time. In the air, the Morty Mole regrows and attempts to stomp at Dugtrio, but the Pokemon avoids it by going underground.

It then pops out at distance to the Mole and fires a Mud Bomb. The Morty Mole avoids it, but Dugtrio fires a second one which this time hurts the Mole and makes it shorter. Dugtrio then shoots two other Mud Bombs, but Morty Mole manages to avoid them again. Dugtrio, angry, starts provoking a massive earthquake. Then suddenly, a massive fissure on the ground appears next to the Mole. Fissure has failed. But Dugtrio hasn’t finished yet, far from it. The Morty Mole regrows bigger, but Dugtrio uses Tri-Attack. The triple beam hurts the Mole, who becomes shorter again, now paralyzed. Dugtrio uses Bulldoze and stomps the ground (how?!) striking the Morty Mole, who turns into a Monty Mole into the air, as the Super Mushroom pops out of its body and flies far away.

As it slowly lands to the ground, the Monty Mole burrows underground, then pops out of the hole with a manhole cover in its head, goggles on its nose and a wrench in its hand. This time it’s Dugtrio VS Rocky Wrench.

(Cues Sucker Punch – Splatoon)

The Rocky Wrench throws a wrench at the Dugtrio, but it’s so small and slow that the Dugtrio avoids it without trouble. The Dugtrio rushes to the Rocky Wrench who puts a Bob-Omb and digs into the ground. The Dugtrio stops its course and digs into the ground too as the Bob-Omb blown up at the surface. Underground, Dugtrio chases the Mole who keeps throwing wrenches at it. The Pokemon avoids them all in the ground and manages to catch up with the Mole. The Rocky Wrench prepares to directly assault the Pokemon with a wrench, but Dugtrio uses Mud-Slap, disarming the mole from its wrench. The Rocky Wrench then digs to return to the surface and throws multiple wrenches and Bob-Ombs around the arena. When the Dugtrio returns to the surface too, it takes some wrenches to the faces. The Rocky Wrench then throws another Bob-Omb at it, but the Dugtrio uses Magnitude, and it appears to be at magnitude four, which is sufficient to make the Bob-Omb explodes, as the Dugtrio quickly charges at the Rocky Wrench and uses Slash to cut the goggles in two halves and to destroy the manhole cover. The Monty Mole fastly returns underground and reappears just next to a Bob-Omb, he then pops up with a baseball bat and shoots the Bob-Omb at the Dugtrio who catches it with a baseball glove in one of its claws. The Monty Mole seems angry as both hit back and forth the Bob-Omb as a ball. When the Bob-Omb turns red, the Monty Mole takes out a baseball glove, and activates its « Ball Dash » ability, increasing its speed. It runs near the Dugtrio and slashes multiple times with its claws, jumps and throws the Bob-Omb to Dugtrio. But the Pokemon uses Sand Tomb, creating a sand whirlwind which makes the bomb explode far from it.

Both moles then went underground, the Monty Mole using its « Dirty Drill » ability and Dugtrio using Dig. Once more, when they were enough near to each other, they pop out the ground, and it’s a clash between Monty Mole’s kick and Dugtrio’s headbutts, provoking a shockwave. Ultimately, the Pokemon’s attack was stronger and knocks the Monty Mole backward, right next to its red cannon.

(Cues Hooked – Splatoon)

Dugtrio is suspicious about what could happen now. The Monty Mole enters the cannon, and the launcher points directly at the Pokemon. The cannon then fires multiple Bullet Bills at the Mole Pokemon who tries to escape them. But Dugtrio quickly sees that the Bullet Bills chase it, and unleashes the Tri-Attack once more, destroying some Bullet Bills in the process. Nevertheless, it didn’t see other Bullet Bills, which made contact with the Pokemon and knock it backward, even more at the reach of the cannon. As Monty Mole laughs, the cannon fires Glorpedos. Dugtrio goes underground to avoid them, but as it returns to the surface, it is hurt by the poisonous pollution made by the different Glorpedos. But it doesn’t do much damage at it, and as the Monty Mole throws at him Bob-Ombs, Dugtrio uses Mud Bomb to wrap the ground with mud. It then dodges multiple Bob-Ombs and Mud-Slaps one, knocking it right to Monty Mole’s face as it blows up. The Mole then returns into the cannon. Dugtrio tries to use Bulldoze to make the ground shakes but it fails to damage the cannon. It then uses Tri-Attack at it, but it fails again. The Monty Mole orders the cannon to fire more Bullet Bills at the Pokemon, but it goes underground to make them crash to the ground without damaging the Mole Pokemon. Dugtrio reappears next to the cannon, and the Monty Mole, who feels in danger, throws another  Bob-Omb at the Pokemon, who Mud-Slap it again and makes it blows up to the cannon. Dugtrio then uses Earth Power to make the ground erupt under the cannon, melting it little by little. As the red cannon burns, the Monty Mole, who sees the dysfunction, jumps out the cannon and enters its tank. It’s now time for Monty Tank to rise.

The Monty Tank charges at Dugtrio, as the red cannon blows up behind it. It fires Bullets Bills and Bob-Ombs at Dugtrio who uses Tri-Attack to destroy them. The 51th Pokemon then unleashes a Mud Bomb, which makes direct contact with the tank but doesn’t damage it. The Monty Mole then pops out its head out of the cannon. Dugtrio quickly rushes to the tank and uses Scratch to hit the Mole, who returns inside its tank. It shoots multiple Bullet Bills in fury. Dugtrio, surprised, is hit by one of them, which makes one of its faces begin to bleed. A launcher is added to the Monty Tank, which continues to fires multiple bombs and rockets. The Pokemon then moves fastly to turn around the tank and makes all the rockets crash into the tank. The Monty Mole goes furious again and pops out the tank. Dugtrio then uses Fissure, but it fails again and cracks the ground far from its target. The Mole wants to take advantage of that by throwing a Bob-omb at the Pokemon, but the latter uses Sand Attack. The blinded mole forgets to throw its bomb and it blows up right in its face. Dugtrio then uses Earthquake. The very powerful shockwave knocks the Monty Tank upside down. The head of the Monty Mole violently struck the ground, and as the minion is hurt for the third time, the Tank blows up and propels the Monty Mole a long distance. The Pokemon is, this time, satisfied and convinced that it defeated its opponent. It then uses Rototiller, fertilizing the ground. As flowers and grass begin to grow, something rolls next to the weak Mole. The Flower Pot.

The Monty Mole touches the pot, and an explosion of magic is provoked.

(Cues Battle! Sinnoh Gym Leader – Pokemon Black and White 2)

Dugtrio looks in shock to who it has to face now. In front of it, a gigantic mole in a giant flower pot, who floats thanks to a balloon. It faces the Mega Monty Mole’s Maze Mischief.

Dugtrio rushes as near as it can to the Monty Mole, but as it is on the ground, its attempts to attack him with Scratch and Slash fails. The Pokemon then uses Earthquake again, but it fails too as the quake doesn’t affect the floating Mole. The Monty Mole laughs and throws a gigantic bomb. The surprized Dugtrio, rushes underground in fear, as a great explosion is heard in the surface. Even underground, the Pokemon feels the shockwave created by the explosion. It then pops out the ground and uses Earth Power, hoping that the eruption reaches the Mole’s flower pot, but the minion floats higher to avoid the attack. Dugtrio then launches another Mud Bomb at the Mega Mole’s face, but it doesn’t deal much damage. But Dugtrio fires two others, again, and this time it’s sufficient to make the Mole furious. It prepares another bomb, but this time, Dugtrio is prepared and begins to burrow deeply into the ground. As the bomb blew up to the surface and created six other bombs, the Dugtrio is several miles underground, totally ignoring the bombs. It then pops out to the ground sufficiently far from the Mole, who prepares another bomb. But this one doesn’t reach the Pokemon, who’s too far. Dugtrio uses Earthquake to create a powerful quake who makes the bomb juggling. The giant bomb is then redirected to the Mega Monty Mole’s face, Dugtrio then takes advantage of the Mole’s confusion to rushes to its opponent. It then uses Tri-Attack to the flower pot, destroying it, and uses it again to pierce the different balloons.

The Monty Mole then falls in fear, totally helpless from the air. Dugtrio then quickly charges at the Mole and uses Night Slash.

« Critical hit! »

The slash makes a deep cut in the Mole’s body. Dugtrio then uses Sand Tomb to the minion, trapping it into a massive sandstorm. The sand from the whirlwind then infiltrates Monty Mole’s body by the wounds, suffocating and killing it.

(Music cuts)

The Monty Mole, who’s more sand than flesh now, falls into the ground, now a statue of sand. As the sandstorm ceases, Dugtrio growls with satisfaction.

K.O.[]

As the Monty Mole sand statue stands in the middle of the fertilized ground, Dugtrio returns to the underground cave to see the trainer laying on the ground dizzily because of all the earthquakes of the fight.

Results[]

(Cues VS Friend! - Pokemon XY)

Boomstick: That’s what I call a sand tomb. Get it? Tomb?

Wiz: Well. This fight was...interesting to say the least. But before talking about why Dugtrio won, let’s just explain why its signature attack, Fissure, will always fail against Monty Mole.

Boomstick: Yeah, that’s an attack which could realistically only damage Pokemon, as its mechanics are based on Pokemon stats.

Wiz: In fact, to know the accuracy of this attack you have to reduce the level of the user by the level of the target, plus adding 30 % accuracy.  With an opponent who doesn’t share this level mechanic, it’s difficult to gauge what could be the level of it, so it would probably fail.

Boomstick: Now let’s talk about why Dugtrio won. And that’s simple, this Pokemon has first practically all the advantages. In terms of pure strength, even if the Monty Mole species can stun karts by just jumping out of the ground, a Diglett could, in Pokepark 2, placed a Mine Cart under a Snorlax, which is a massive Pokemon with a weight of 1014.1 Ibs. And a Dugtrio is even stronger!

Wiz: A Dugtrio is also faster, being the ground Pokemon with the most based speed, and being the 14th fastest Pokemon in history. While a Monty Mole is fast, it can’t catch up with a lot of Mario’s character. And in terms of digging, Dugtrio has been proven to be capable of burrowing far more deeply than Monty Mole. Adding to the fact that some types of Monty Moles couldn’t dig into the ground, Dugtrio has a huge mobility advantage.

Boomstick: And in terms of durability...that’s not even comparable as Monty Moles could be defeated by one, two or three attacks depending on the types.

Wiz: However, these different types of Moles give a run for Dugtrio’s money. First, it’s true that Monty, Mega and Morty Moles, along with Rocky Wrench, could basically be one-shot by Dugtrio, and none of their attacks could do much to it, either.

Boomstick : But when we get into the cannon and tank, it begins to be a bit tougher. Both are supposedly invincible to Dugtrio’s attacks when the Mole is inside them, and if Dugtrio isn’t the dumbest Pokemon, it’s still here a wild Pokemon, so it couldn’t be that easy for it to figure out a way to attack. However, if it’s true that the attacks of the cannon and Monty Tank could make some damages to Dugtrio, the Pokemon has attacks that can counter that and it is fast enough to dodge most of them.  And if we count the stating of Gary that Dugtrio could return underground at the speed of light...it makes things much, much easier for the Mole Pokemon.

Wiz: So Monty Mole, in these forms, can’t do much to the Pokemon too, because contrary to Dugtrio, a Mole can’t even from the surface reach the Pokemon if it’s underground. And the habit of Monty Mole to keep showing its head makes it vulnerable to Dugtrio’s attacks. And we can also think about the idea that Ground-type attacks are efficient against Steel Type Pokemon. Even if the cannon or the tank aren’t Pokemon, they are definitely at least a little vulnerable to ground attacks.

Boomstick: Which leads us to Mega Monty Mole Maze Mischief. Well, if the bomb could be a problem, its explosion stays on the surface, and the maze in the mini-game is shaken only due to magic. Dugtrio could burrow enough deep into the ground to avoid any collateral damage.

Wiz: On the other hand, if most ground-shaking attacks like Earthquake or Magnitude will not reach the floating Mole, Dugtrio still has a lot of attacks to reach it at the distance. And that includes Ground-type attacks like Mud Bomb, because Monty Mole isn’t a Flying Pokemon, and even some Pokemons who levitate can be affected by ground-attacks. And even if we don’t count ground attacks, there are still attacks like Tri-Attack for instance. Dugtrio is just better in strength, speed, durability, and versatility, while Monty Mole in all of its forms can’t really hope to kill the 51st Pokemon.

Boomstick: Monty just can’t dig itself out of this mole.

Wiz: The winner is Dugtrio.

The Winner is Dugtrio
