History[]
Neo Periwinkle Cortex path to evil began as a student at Madame Amberley's Academy of Evil, where he met two classmates who would later become two of his closes allies; N. Brio and N. Gin. Already at eight years old he had dreams of creating the Evolvo-Ray, a device that would let him transform animals into powerful sapient underlings, though his failed prototype just ended up teleporting his pet birds into another dimension. At some point, he came into contact with the powerful ancient voodoo mask Uka Uka. Later in life, N. Brio managed to complete the Evolvo-Ray, granting the doctors the ability to turn the wildlife of Australia into their own personal army. Unfortunately, when Cortex picked up three bandicoots to evolve, he had no idea the siblings among them would become his greatest archenemies; Crash and Coco Bandicoot.

Arsenal[]
- Ray Gun: A red ray gun held in one hand with numerous functions selected by a dial on the side: chargeable plasma blasts, levitate objects, stunning targets, teleporting Cortex, transforming targets into large stone blocks or gelatinous cubes. Also possesses unseen love, incinerate, disintegration and hairdryer modes.
- Evolvo-Ray: Mutates animals into powerful, humanoid beings with human-like intelligence. When powered up by Mojo, transforms animals into significantly more powerful titans that inherently obey Cortex. Originally stationary, but a handheld version has been developed.
- Hoverboard/Jetpack: Grants flight-capabilities.
- Explosives: Has a seemingly unlimited number of bombs and explosives to throw.
- Forcefield Generator: Creates a blue barrier around him that blocks attacks. Can only last in short spurts before temporarily shutting down.
- Quantum Masks: Temporarily harnessed the power of. Lani-Loli can phase objects in and out of existence, Ika-Ika lets him flip opponents' vision up-side down, Kupuna-Wa lets him slow time, and Akano lets him rapidly spin his machines to make their weapons harder to dodge.
Other Inventions[]
- Cortex Vortex: Large device capable of brainwashing those placed inside it, though somewhat faulty as it failed to brainwash Crash. Later turned into a space station that, when fully powered up with crystals, would be able to brainwash the entire planet.
- Airship: An airship
- Mecha-Bandicoot: A large mech resembling Crash. Its right hand is a chainsaw, its left is a rocket launcher, and it can fire plasma bolts from its nose.
- Planetary Minimizer: A huge device capable of shrinking an entire planet to fit in Cortex's palm.
- Psychetron: Large-scale teleporter able to cross dimensions.
- NVs: Mass produced helmets with a variety of functions akin to a smartphone. If worn for long enough, mutates the wearer and makes them subservient to Cortex.
- Tornado Generator: Flying machines able to generate tornadoes above them.
