History[]
[This history focuses on the Post-Crisis Dr. Destiny.]
John Dee was a fairly minor criminal scientist who finally ended up in Arkham Asylum. To help him escape, his mother gave him the Dreamstone of Morpheus. This magical ruby gave him great powers, but Dee altered the stone, increasing its power and linking its power only to himself. He gave the altered stone the name, the Materioptikon.
Overuse of the Materioptikon weakened Dee’s body and mind, leaving him a deranged psychopath trapped in a frail and damaged body, with the ability to dream lost to him. He has taken on the JLA several times, and has repeatedly ended up back in Arkham, but he has escaped several times, and even overcame the loss of the Materioptikon.
Death Battle Info[]
Appearance[]
John Dee, in his normal form, is a very average looking middle-aged man. While in prison, the guards did not think too much about him, and even made him a trustee.
However, when he manifests himself to someone in a dream, his appearance is very impressive. Dr. Destiny appears to be a large and muscular man in a sky-blue costume accessorized with a royal-blue cape and hood. Destiny’s face looks like a skull, but is strangely animate, allowing him to affect various emotions.
Powers and Abilities[]
Dr. Destiny’s psychic powers revolve around dreaming. When a person is asleep, he can invade that person’s dream, and take control of it. This control can psychically harm the dreamer, and even physically kill him or her. While under Dr. Destiny’s influence, the dreamer cannot wake up or even be woken up. Even so powerful a psychic as the Martian Manhunter had problems influencing someone under Dr. Destiny’s control. Dr. Destiny can affect multiple sleeping people, even if they are not close together.
If John Dee is physically close to his chosen victim, he can induce a state of lucid dreaming in the victim, where the victim perceives and moves around the material world, but faces Dr. Destiny as if he was a true physical person.
Because of his scientific background, Dee does have some medical knowledge.
