“ | Can't argue with that. Well then, let's get started. (Holds hand forward) We're both fighters, aren't we? Not killers, at least for now. This is a sign of sportsmanship, that we respect each other before and after the fight. Good luck. | „ |

History[]
Destroyman is a recurring boss in the No More Heroes series. Despite his superhero costume, he is one of the most vile and cowardly assassins in the series, usually relying on cheap tricks and having no qualms about murdering civilians.
After being killed and cut in half by Travis in a match for the 7th rank in the UAA, he was rebuilt by an unknown third party, cyborgizing both halves, allowing them to move and fight autonomously. As the 8th ranked assassin in the sequel, New Destroyman fought Shinobu, but both halves were defeated and destroyed by her.
This was not the end of Destroyman, however, as he had set up an underground base meant to endlessly produce robot copies of him, fittingly named Mass-Produced Destroyman. Travis Touchdown however ran into this base by accident with the help of Notorious, and killed the leader Destroyman, Destroyman True Face, who exploded upon his death, seemingly destroying the entire base.
Death Battle Info (Fanon)[]
Background[]
- Full Name: John Harnet
- New Destroyman might be one of the most confusing bosses in the No More Heroes series. In the game, there are two bosses but they are still referred as New Destroyman. In the original New Destroyman was known as Destroyman, but in the end of the boss fight, Destroyman was sliced in two by Travis Touchdown. In the sequel he returns as a pair of cyborgs, and yet they're still classified as one character. It gets even more confusing in the third game, with even more versions of him.
- Destroyman's flight is achieved by suspending himself from machines in the boss room, and although it's difficult to see on the original version of No More Heroes, one can spot the wire he hangs from during the battle. In HD, the wire becomes more clearer to see, but you have to either emulate it on Dolphin or play the Nintendo Switch version.
- His return from dead in every games is a reference to Marvel and DC characters, mostly Captain America. Although he died countless of times, he always managed to return in some way.
- He is voiced by Josh Keaton, who interestingly enough, voiced several real superheroes in the past: The Flash and Aquaman (Justice League: Crisis on Two Earths), Spider-Man (The Spectacular Spider-Man), Green Lantern (Green Lantern: The Animated Series), Cyclops (X-Men Legends 2: Rise of the Apocalypse) and Robin (Batman: Arkham Origins).
Standard Tactics:[]
- Destroyman: Destroyman starts a fight by trying to trick an opponent into a handshake, hitting them with a close-range Destroy Spark if they fall for it, to then beat them up even more while they're unconscious and unable to defend themselves. He will also attempt to sucker punch and try to catch his enemy off-guard in any other way he can, and isn't above begging for mercy to get an opening. In actual combat Destroyman uses a mix of melee and ranged combat, with punching combos, Destroy Pound and Destroy Spark for the former and a mix of energy attacks with Destroy Cannon, Beam and Buster for the latter. A little bit into the fight, if he is able to, he will begin "flying" around the battlefield carried by the wire on his back, and spam Destroy Cannons with the occasional divebomb attack. Throughout the fight he will also use this wire to reposition himself away from the enemies.
- New Destroyman: The two Destroyman halves still attempt to trick their opponent into accepting a Destroy Spark handshake, although their attempts are less convincing now. The right half, the one with the glowing red mechanical eye, chases down the enemy in melee combat, while the left one with the blue eye stays in the back to attack with long-ranged moves. Due to their real flight abilities, they can now slide across the ground to avoid attacks or outmaneuver foes. Perhaps even more importantly, they can revive each other with an electrical jolt, allowing the duo to keep fighting for much more time.
- Mass-Produced Destroyman: Individual Mass-Produced Destroymen aren't particularly threatening, using more basic and predictable attacks. The real danger when fighting them comes from numbers, with even tens of them ganging up on a single foe if needed. The stock of Mass-Produced Destroyman seems to at least be in the hundreds, judging by the sheer size of their factory.
- Destroyman True Face: The final form of Destroyman fights much like the original, alternating ranged and CQC attacks, but has developed much more complex and powerful versions of his moves, showing off his new competency especially in powerful area of effect moves and more varied melee techniques.
Notable Attacks/Techniques:[]
- (original) Destroyman- Destroyman's suit is technologically superpowered, and is laced with dangerous gadgets and weapons. Almost all of his attacks' names begin with the word "Destroy."
- Destroy Spark: Destroyman unleashes electricity from his hand and electrocutes his opponent. Powerful enough to knock people out for more than a minute, even ones as resilient as Travis Touchdown.
- Destroy Cannon: Destroyman focuses his power into a blue ball of energy and launches it at his opponent.
- Destroy Pound: Destroyman punches the ground causing a shockwave that sends anyone close flying.
- Destroy Beam: Destroyman tilts his head forward and fires two small beams from his ears.
- Destroy Buster: Destroyman is able to fire a powerful laser from his crotch.
- Punch Combo
- Nipple Machine Gun: Destroyman has machine guns concealed in his nipples.
- Flying Tackle: Using the wire on his back to suspend himself in the air, the original Destroyman flies upwards slightly to lunge forward with one fist stretched out. No More Heroes III treats this as a variation of Destroy Punch.
- New Destroyman (Attacks without a description are identical to Destroyman's)
- Destroy Spark: Unlike Destroyman, New Destroyman is able to fire Destroy Spark out of his crotch as well.
- Destroy Cannon
- Destroy Pound
- Destroy Beam: The halves fire beams of a different color now, red for the right half and blue for the left.
- Destroy Buster: If both New Destroymen cross the streams of their Destroy Buster, they can use it for a combination attack.
- Punch + Dropkick Combo
- Nipple Machine Gun
- Forcefield: New Destroymen are able to create a forcefield.
- Flying Tackle: New Destroyman flies upwards slightly to lunge forward with one fist stretched out.
- Mass-Producted Destroyman
- Hand Thrust: Does a quick hand thrust.
- Hand Swipe: Reels back before throwing out a wide hand swipe.
- Shockwave: Pounds the ground, causing a small electric explosion.
- Uppercut: Puts all its weight behind a strong uppercut.
- Destroy Buster
- Destroy Cannon
- Destroyman True Face
- Destroy Cannon: Destroyman can now fire two Destroy Cannons at once, and they will aggressively home into the target. He can also create a much stronger and bigger Destroy Cannon blast and throw it with both hands, resulting in a large explosion when it comes into contact with something.
- Hand Thrust: Destroyman True Face performs his mass-produced version's hand thrust, but with electricity in his fist.
- Punching Uppercut: Destroyman performs an electric, jumping uppercut.
- Spin Attack: Destroyman creates two small energy blades on the back of his hands to perform a spinning attack.
- Destroy Spark: Destroyman can now electrify large areas of the ground he's on at once.
- Destroy Punch: Destroyman surrounds himself in electricity, flying forward and trying to tackle the opponent.
- Destroy Buster: A much more powerful version of Destroyman's signature crotch beam attack, which causes lightning to strike various areas.
