Pokémon VS Metroid! Celebrating 10 years of DEATH BATTLE! The Psychic Mythical Pokémon faces off against the intergalactic Bounty Hunter!

Deoxys vs. Samus Aran is the 67th episode of DEATH BATTLE! by Shadow7615, featuring Deoxys from the Pokémon series and Samus Aran from the Metroid series in a battle between Nintendo's cosmic morphers with modified DNA.

Interlude[]

Boomstick: Space is pretty damn cool, but man is it dangerous. You never know what you're gonna find. I don't do science, but I'm sure this nerd over here can tell you just how cool space is.

Wiz: It's filled with endless possibilities. Just looking at our Deoxyribonucleic acid when exposed to the elements of space is just fascinating to me. Which can also be said for our combatants. Deoxys, the DNA Pokémon.

Boomstick: And Samus Aran. She's so badass, whole planets explode when she's done with them. BOOM! He's Wiz and I'm Boomstick!

Wiz: And it's our job to analyze their weapons, armor, and skills to find out who would win... a Death Battle.

Deoxys[]

Boomstick: So, the Pokémon world isn't exactly just a "world". Turns out there's a shitton of pocket monsters out there, from ones that come into our world from a dimensional wormhole to a being of antimatter to even gods from multiple different mythologies. How did they even manage to get all of this into those small Game Boys back then? Suddenly I'm starting to appreciate the simpler mons out there.

Wiz: Pokémon have many unique origins, but perhaps the most unusual of them all is how the DNA Pokémon, Deoxys, came to be. The Pokédex consistently describes Deoxys as an alien virus that fell to Earth, arriving via meteoroid. It was then exposed to a laser beam, which mutated the DNA of the virus, transforming it into Deoxys.

Boomstick: Alright, I ain't got any clever funny backstory for this one, this thing is weird to look at. But there's more to Deoxys, turns out that after it became a Pokémon, exposing it to meteorites out in space caused it take on a bunch of different formes, and I don't mean like Super Saiyans and stuff, these formes are pretty unique compared to all the other Pokémon that can change forms.

Wiz: The forme of Deoxys we all know is the aptly named "Normal Forme", but it can alter its appearance and statistics to take on three other formes. The Attack Forme, the Defense Forme and the Speed Forme. Each of which greatly enhances Deoxys in the area the given forme specializes in, and most of the time it elevates Deoxys to being one of the most powerful Pokémon in that particular statistic.

Popup: As of Generation VIII, Attack Forme Deoxys has the fourth-highest Attack stat and second-highest Special Attack stat. Speed Forme Deoxys has the second-highest Speed stat and Defense Forme Deoxys has the seventh-highest Defense stat and the fourth-highest Special Defense stat.

Boomstick: So it’s kinda like a swiss-army knife, except it's a pocket monster from space. But this versatility does come in handy. While in the games you need to use a fallen meteor to switch its forme, in other material like the anime and the movie, Deoxys can change its forme at will, adapting to whatever the situation calls for. Oh yeah, another thing about Deoxys, it's Psychic!

Wiz: As the Pokédex explains, Deoxys is highly intelligent and commands psychokinetic powers. Giving it incredible telekinetic and telepathic abilities, being naturally capable of moves such as Psychic, letting it effortlessly toss around its foes with just its mind. Knock Off lets Deoxys disarm opponents of any item they're holding, and Night Shade, which causes its victim to see a frightening mirage.

Boomstick: But it does have some stronger moves. Hyper Beam devastates opponents, but Deoxys needs to rest after using it. Swift allows Deoxys to attack with a bunch of stars that literally do not miss. And when it wants to avoid the attacks of others, Deoxys can use Double Team to move so fast that copies of itself show up, making it even less likely for them to hit the real Deoxys.

Wiz: But without a doubt, Deoxys' strongest move is its signature Psycho Boost, where it launches a large ball of Psychic energy toward its opponent. In most cases, Deoxys will change formes to use certain moves, such as ExtremeSpeed while it is in Speed Forme and Counter while in Defense Forme. Much like its formes, Deoxys' learnset is fairly versatile.

Popup: In addition to these moves, Deoxys can harness its brain, the crystal-like object embedded in its chest, to launch powerful laser beams. Due to the nature of its biology, it is unclear if Deoxys can use its brain to perform similar moves like Hyper Beam in such a fashion.

Boomstick: But it isn't just good in the offense department, Deoxys also has moves for when it needs to go on the defense, Protect is the surefire way to avoid getting hit, and Mirror Coat is the perfect option for deflecting non-physical attacks like Flamethrower and Thunderbolt. If for some reason Deoxys wants to get even faster, it can use Agility to increase its speed.

Wiz: Should Deoxys wish to bolster its defenses, it can use Cosmic Power to absorb mystic power from space itself. And to top it all off is Deoxys' ability, Pressure, which it shares with most Legendary and Mythical Pokémon. It exerts pressure on its opponents, making them exert more energy to perform attacks.

Boomstick: Deoxys is one of the strongest Pokémon of all, it’s even gone head-to-head with the likes of Rayquaza. The two have constantly fought each other to the point that they're rivals. In the movie, a battle between Rayquaza and Deoxys resulted in them destroying a part of a city. But that is just barely scratching the surface of their awesome power, especially Rayquaza's.

Wiz: As the master of the Weather Trio, Rayquaza is superior to Groudon and Kyogre, both of which can cause planetary devastation if they so desired, and they very nearly did until Rayquaza stopped them both, even while in their respective Primal forms. The fact Deoxys is considered on equal footing with someone as powerful as Rayquaza speaks a lot to Deoxys' immense power.

Popup: As shown in Destiny Deoxys, whenever it uses Recover, Deoxys can regenerate any part of its body. However, this depends on Deoxys' core remaining intact, should it be destroyed, Deoxys will be unable to regenerate.

Boomstick: And that applies to every area, including speed. Rayquaza moves at Faster than Light speeds, which Deoxys is more than capable of matching thanks to its Speed Forme, and the fact both of them naturally learn ExtremeSpeed. On top of that, Rayquaza destroyed the Grand Meteor Delta, which was stated to be capable of destroying the planet. And it just so happens Deoxys was the one telekinetically controlling that meteor in the first place.

Wiz: In battle, Deoxys holds a natural advantage against Fighting and Poison-type Pokémon, though with its varied learnset across its formes, Deoxys can use Ghost, Dark, Rock, Steel, Electric and Fighting-type moves. Besides its draconian rival, Deoxys has also done battle with yet another rival, Mewtwo.

Boomstick: Oh yeah, the one that got made in the lab. The battle for "Who's the better Psychic-type" went down between these two, and their battle was pretty awesome. And Deoxys got some pretty good hits in, especially thanks to its shapeshifting abilities. Deoxys was able to turn its arms into sharp projectiles and impale Mewtwo in the chest, twice! And remember, Mewtwo is one of, if not, THE strongest Psychic-type out there.

Wiz: As a Psychic-type, Deoxys is prey to Ghost, Dark and Bug-type moves. On top of that, despite its formes having some of the strongest stats out of all Pokémon, each of them come with a cost. Perhaps most notably, Attack Forme Deoxys becomes a glass cannon, Speed Forme Deoxys has weaker attack and defense to instead excel in speed, and Defense Forme Deoxys sacrifices almost all of its offensive power to bolster its defensive bulk.

Popup: Deoxys is one of the few Mythical Pokémon to have been caught and used by a Trainer. In this case, a Deoxys was caught by Giovanni in the Pokémon Adventures manga and used to battle Mewtwo.

Boomstick: While Deoxys is smart enough to understand the weaknesses of all its formes, it does still have to deal with its fundamental type disadvantages. Also, you remember that circle on its chest? Yeah, that's Deoxys' brain! It’s completely exposed! I wouldn't be leaving my crystal brain out there for someone to point at. It's like literally putting a target on your chest.

Wiz: Additionally, Deoxys struggles against opponents with raw power. Although both Mewtwo and Rayquaza are its most notable battles, in both cases, Deoxys was soundly defeated, Mega Rayquaza even overpowered the signature Psycho Boost. Even before Mega Evolutions were a thing, Rayquaza was able to annihilate Deoxys' body with a well-placed Hyper Beam, having manipulated Deoxys into letting its guard down, thinking it had won the battle.

Boomstick: Yeah, while Deoxys' crystal brain survived the whole ordeal, it took years before Deoxys' body fully regenerated. Being out of commission for that long would suck all kinds of balls. But hey, it's better than dying for good. But if anyone is strong enough to destroy the core, Deoxys is a goner.

Wiz: With few to challenge its power, best be careful you don't cross paths with this alien virus.

Deoxys battles Rayquaza in space, unleashing Psycho Boost.

Samus Aran[]

Wiz: At some point, humanity expanded beyond planet Earth and formed the Galactic Federation, allowing peace and prosperity across the galaxy. This included K-2L, one of the few planets that had an atmosphere hospitable for human life. With the planet having a natural resource called Afloraltite, the Earth colony of K-2L mined for that precious resource.

Boomstick: But mining for rocks on another planet isn't always fun, so humanity also decided to start populating the planet. Which lead to the arrival of the future bounty hunting badass we all know, Samus Aran. Life was great, living with her family on this cool planet while they mined the resource to help spaceships travel across the galaxy, it was pretty nice until things went terribly wrong.

Wiz: While it was unintended, the Chozo's desire to obtain Afloraltite drew the attention of the Space Pirates, who also wanted the valuable material. In a horrifying massacre, almost the entire population of K-2L was murdered by the Space Pirates and their vile leader, Ridley. Samus, who was 3 years old, was the sole survivor. Though in her darkest moment, the Chozo she had befriended became her saviours.

Boomstick: Who are a bunch of bird people living on the nearby planet Zebes. They took Samus under their literal wings and raised her. But they knew that a human wouldn't survive on their planet, so the Chozo infused Samus' DNA with their own. That doesn't sound like science, but she turned out great. I lost my Dad too and all I got to show for it is my shotgun leg!

Popup: The Chozo who rescued her from K-2L, Gray Voice, was also the Chozo who donated his DNA to Samus for her adaptation to Zebes' atmosphere. Samus would not learn this truth until several years later.

Wiz: Her Human-Chozo DNA elevated Samus' strength, speed, and athletic prowess, putting her on levels far above normal humans. Where else to begin than with the Zero Suit, it perfectly accommodates her incredible athletic skill. Additionally she carries a Paralyzer, ideal for stunning enemies temporarily. But the Zero Suit isn't solely there to be eye candy. It allows Samus the ability to don her more iconic appearance.

Boomstick: By literally willing it so, Samus can manifest her Power Suit. It gives Samus her typical offensive and defensive essentials for going on her epic space missions, it was made by the Chozo too, so it's literally part of Samus' being, so she can will it on and off whenever she wants, but the Chozo made her Power Suit a lot more versatile.

Wiz: Specifically, they outfitted the Power Suit with the ability to upgrade itself with additional technology, all of which allows Samus to adapt to practically any environment. Her most common suit is the Varia Suit, which increases her ability to shrug off damage, and she can tolerate areas with extreme heat and cold.

Boomstick: But the Chozo has another awesome suit for Samus, the Gravity Suit, aside from looking just fucking awesome, this suit allows Samus to negate the effects of gravity around her, while its pretty handy when you're in space, it also works the same way underwater, since you know, under normal circumstances, Samus wouldn't be able to swim in anything but her Zero Suit.

Popup: Samus has acquired additional suits throughout her life, but many of these suits have been temporary upgrades. For example, Samus acquired the Phazon Suit when she defeated the Omega Pirate, but it was later stolen from her by Metroid Prime, who merged with the Phazon Suit, resulting in the birth of Dark Samus.

Wiz: Though regardless which upgrade she is using, she always has her Arm Cannon ready. Similarly, it has received multiple upgrades, allowing Samus to fire different types of energy and elemental blasts. While the standard Power Beam is a basic blast, Samus can charge her beams to increase the damage output. But she has various other types of beams.

Boomstick: She can use the Wave Beam to pass through objects, but it isn't a literal beam that shoots waves, and that's a bummer. But she does have the Ice Beam! Which freezes enemies on the spot, which comes in real handy as a makeshift platform. Reminds me that this is the game that makes up one half of Metroidvania, when are we gonna see some Castlevania characters around here?

Wiz: That'll be a little later on the season, Ahem. However, Samus isn't restricted to using only one kind of beam at a time, she can combine her different beams to perform interesting combinations, such as an Ice-Plasma-Wave Beam. But she is packing more than just beams. She also carries multiple missiles, ranging from seeker missiles, homing missiles, ice missiles, diffusion missiles and hyper missiles.

Boomstick: I was wrong about the Chozo, those guys are badass! In addition to all that, Samus' Arm Cannon has the Grapple Beam, easily letting her latch only any surface and swing around, reel in enemies like it's a fishing rod. They also somehow gave Samus the ability to turn into a ball. I never really figured out how this even works, but it comes to handy for moving around easily, or for quick getaways. And she has the classic Screw Attack.

Popup: Samus can also combine her Beams with additional weaponry to perform Charge Combos, ranging from Super Missile to Flamethrower, though Samus only used these during the events of the Metroid Prime Trilogy.

Wiz: But when she wants to unleash her strongest option, she uses the Power Bomb, which causes wide scale destruction, and she's tough enough to withstand her Power Bombs without taking any damage to her Power Suit. Some Power Bombs are even capable of destroying whole planets by themselves. With all of this and more, Samus is easily one of the most accomplished bounty hunters in the galaxy.

Boomstick: She's beaten some of the biggest bads in the galaxy, multiple times. Mother Brain, Ridley, Dark Samus, all of 'em. She's even taken down other skilled hunters, including Rundas, Sylux and Weavel. Samus truly is in a league all her own. She's even stood up to some tough sons of bitches. One time, she got into a fight with the Tallon Metroids.

Wiz: The Tallon Metroids, despite being weaker than the Metroids we all know, were able to survive their homeworld, Tallon IV, being impacted by a Leviathan. Based on the massive crater formed when the impact occurred, the Tallon Metroids would have needed to withstand a force of 73 zettatons of TNT.

Boomstick: And Samus can destroy those Metroids, no wonder she ended up wiping out the entire Metroid species, all except the Baby, who Samus raised as her own, until she ended up losing it to Mother Brain. There's an irony in there somewhere, I swear. But yeah, Samus is pretty strong, but she's also pretty quick. Her Gunship is capable of intergalactic travel, why is this important? Because Ridley has shown he's capable of matching those speeds.

Popup: After being infected with the X Parasite, Samus lost her original Power Suit and reworked what remained of it into the Fusion Suit. Despite this, Samus would ultimately defeat SA-X, who used the Power Suit whilst Samus used the weaker Fusion Suit, ultimately regaining her abilities.

Wiz: And Samus can tag Ridley in a fight, so that would put both Samus and Ridley as Massively Faster than Light speeds. And for reference, Samus had to adapt to Zebes' intense atmosphere, which is 980 times stronger than Earth's, so it's pretty reasonable that her speeds were elevated significantly thanks to her training. Samus is also pretty well guarded mentally, even resisting the mental attacks of Mother Brain.

Boomstick: But for all of Samus' skill and powers, she has run into problems time and time again. Almost all of her missions end up starting out with her losing all of her upgrades and equipment aside from the basics, and she has to go around the place looking for them all so she can get back into the fight.

Wiz: And it's important to note that while Samus' energy-based weapons like the beams are essentially unlimited, her missiles and Power Bombs have limited ammunition, so she'll only resort to them when they're absolutely necessary. Also, the Power Suit requires a great deal of mental concentration to maintain it throughout battle. Should she become too emotionally distraught, she could revert back to her Zero Suit.

Boomstick: Though if you ask me, that's gonna be pretty hard to do, Samus is one of the finest the galaxy has to offer,

Samus: Are you not afraid? Those who don't worry about dying in the future won't fight for their lives in the present.

DEATH BATTLE![]

In space, there is no noise to be heard, everything goes by without a sound. For some, that may be a foreboding thought, but for others, it is an escape that may bring them peace of mind. The far reaches of space are vast and almost neverending. And for anyone travelling throughout the cosmos, its a silent trip. But for some people, that may be a blessing. A time and place to think and reflect on things past and present.

In a less explored part of space, a single gunship emerges from a blue planet and begins charting a course back to more habited parts of space. Traversing at high speeds, the gunship was making good time, and in just a matter of minutes, it would arrive at its destination. Onboard the gunship, there were very few crew members, in fact, there was just a single member of crew present, the pilot.

Seated in the pilot's seat, the pilot was watching all the stars pass them by, whilst also observing several slightly transparent white screen displays, showing several pieces of information, from the planet they had just left to a display of another ship and its pilot. The current distance to their destination, with it displaying the distance in percentage, displaying "26%" which put the pilot into a state of content.

As the pilot dismissed the projected screens in front of them. They relaxed more, leaning back in the pilot's seat as the ship followed a projected path across the galaxy. With the peace and quiet as their only company, it didn't bother the pilot at all, you could almost fall asleep and wander through space. But there was a mission she had to see through. The pilot steadily made sure the course was being followed before leaning back into the seat, intending on activating cryostasis.

Though before putting themself into that state, the pilot rose from their seat and headed to a different area of the gunship. The pilot wore a skintight bodysuit, blue in color and had long blonde hair tied by a ponytail. The woman walked across the room where she checked all of the systems in her ship, inspecting every essential part of her ship. After a short while, everything was to her satisfaction, and she returned to the pilot's seat.

The seat lowered, and the cryostasis process started up. Her body temperature lowered to more appropriately help her body handle the conditions of space for longer periods of time. She gazed out into space as she slowly drifted into a slumber. The lights in her gunship all switched off, except for the cyan hue of her gunship's canopy. Although it was dark, the sea of stars in front of her was a peaceful sight. With her trajectory established, and within safe parameters, her conscious mind drifted off. At a steady pace, her gunship traversed the galaxy, with her progress being constantly monitored.

Sometime later, the ship had begun to reenter more inhabited areas of the galaxy, and so the journey was nearing its end. Before the destination could be reached, however, an object suddenly rocked the gunship, knocking it completely off course. This triggered the gunship's alarms, which shut down the cryostasis process and awoke the pilot. Looking more rattled than anything else, she looked at the many displays showing her the damage done to her ship. And it had rendered her incapable of completing the journey.

At this point, there was little choice, she needed to land somewhere to refuel and repair the ship. But locations were scarce, despite being in more populated areas of the galaxy. Her gunship looked for nearby locations that were safe to land, and close by was an asteroid belt that housed a secret outpost. Seeing no other reliable option, she carefully maneuvered her gunship toward the asteroid belt where she got a glimpse at the outpost.

The landing areas were all clear, so this was her chance to land safely and without endangering anyone. Checking her ship out once again, she noticed that the object that had struck it was still attached to her ship. Seeing this as both difficult, but also fortunate that it wasn't going put anyone else at risk. She bravely plunged her ship toward the landing area, and as she approached, the object suddenly detached.

Seeing this, she figured it was still for the best for her to land and figure out what was going on. Steadily approaching the hangar area, As she began landing, the gravity and atmosphere inside took effect, thus ensuring she wasn't exposed to outer space. The rooftop of the gunship opened and out jumped the woman, now donning a primarily orange-colored armor with yellow and red situated along the arms, legs and helmet.

With large round shoulders and a green arm cannon in place of a left arm, this was the Varia Suit, something worn by the legendary bounty hunter Samus Aran. Now that she was capable of going out there and inspecting the situation, Samus stepped out of the hangar area, where her Varia Suit easily resisted cold temperatures. She took a good look for what struck her ship, hoping to find an answer.

And her answer appeared in the form of a triangle which seemed to float aimlessly until it seemed to display signs of consciousness. It moved diagonally south-west, then north-east, then south-east, then north-west, and moved east much quicker, again it moved south-west, and north-west again, east again, south-west once more and finally north, back to its original position.

As she observed the triangle, she noticed throughout this sequence of movements, it had gained a red hue. Without warning, the triangle shook sporadically. Until it finally stopped, Samus watched intently and saw four tentacles emerge from the triangle. Two were a reddish-orange color, and the other two were light blue. They moved about aimlessly until the two pairs coiled together, shattering the triangle, revealing the being housed within.

This being was bipedal, was primarily reddish-orange, with blue appearing on the face and knees, had a glowing purple crystal in its chest, and white eyes. This being was none other than the DNA Pokémon Deoxys. Samus was alarmed by what she had seen, that alien attacked her ship. Samus couldn't put the pieces together, it didn't make much sense at all.

But she had little time to contemplate this thought, as Deoxys took a moment to realize its full being had manifested. It glared at Samus and recognized her as its opponent. Without a single word, Deoxys launched itself forward, straight toward the bounty hunter.

FIGHT!

(Cue Battle! (Deoxys) - Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire)

Moving at incredible speeds, Samus had little time to react but managed to evade to her left. Deoxys flew by her and turned around, again glancing at the bounty hunter. Immediately, Samus saw Deoxys as an enemy and acted as necessary. She raised her arm cannon and fired several shots of the standard Power Beam. Though Deoxys very easily evaded them, Samus persisted and continued firing Power Beams, trying to follow Deoxys' trajectory. But already Samus had begun to notice something was unusual about this alien.

Though before she could think about it, Deoxys took its opportunity to attack once again, this time opting to stay at long range. Deoxys' eyes glowed, as Samus saw her Varia Suit gain a light blue hue to it. At that same time, she felt herself lift off the ground. She immediately dismissed the notion of it being gravity, because her ascent would not have been so sudden. And she noticed Deoxys' behaviour and believed it to be responsible. But as she was a victim of Psychic, Samus could do nothing. With its powerful mind, Deoxys launched Samus back into the hangar bay and into a different room entirely.

A wide-expansive area with an overhead window for vehicles to enter and exit. Samus quickly deduced she was in some kind of starship storage area. As she landed on the ground she looked forward, seeing Deoxys gracefully move through the outpost and into the storage area, again locating its opponent. Though now that she was inside and back under normal gravity effects, there was no further possibility of her being vulnerable to zero-gravity environments.

She primed her arm cannon and pointed it toward Deoxys. She kept her eyes sharp, ready for what may come from Deoxys next. Deciding she was going to take initiation once again, Samus fired more of her Power Beams. But Deoxys remained still, as though it wasn't being shot at. Again its eyes glowed as the Power Beams suddenly changed course, making a sharp ninety-degree turn, hitting the walls. It was unusual, but Samus had begun to believe this being was capable of Psionic abilities.

She had seen such abilities demonstrated by the Chozo and Mother Brain in the past. For a moment, she thought whether this being was in league with her enemies. Though this was not the time to be dwelling on possibilities. Samus started running and fired more Power Beams. Moving out of the way to avoid the attacks, Deoxys decided to attack with some projectiles of its own. With the wave of its tentacles, Deoxys used Swift. Stars suddenly appeared and raced toward Samus, who abandoned her attacks to focus on avoiding. But the stars were fast-moving and caught up to Samus in just seconds.

The group of stars all struck Samus, which knocked her forward and onto the ground. She couldn't believe the speed of its moves. It was unreal. As she recovered, she noticed Deoxys approaching her. In retaliation, Samus fired her Power Beams again, but they were stopped almost instantly by Deoxys' Psychic. But as Deoxys had focused on what Samus had already fired at her, she fired her Arm Cannon once again, not needing to pull any kind of trigger. Some of the blasts struck Deoxys, forcing it to back off.

Standing on her own two feet, Samus took the opportunity to inflict further damage onto Deoxys. Instead of firing a normal Power Beam, she instead charged her Arm Cannon for slightly longer, performing the Charge Beam. The bigger projectile hurdled towards Deoxys, who chose to avoid it instead of manipulating it. But just then, Deoxys saw a missile about to strike it and halted its momentum with Psychic. Redirecting the missile back towards Samus, she noticed this, but was in the middle of another Charged Shot, and fired it at Deoxys.

The Charged Shot destroyed the missile and struck Deoxys, knocking it back and colliding with the wall. Seeing the damage it had received, Deoxys' arms shifted their appearance, the tentacles coiled together and they took on the shape of a typical humanoid arm, with five fingers, an elbow joint, everything you'd expect from a bipedal. With this alteration to consider alongside Samus' understanding of Deoxys' biology, she couldn't figure out what Deoxys was. The more she learned, the more she wanted to ponder just what exactly she was dealing with. She'd encountered many lifeforms, but nothing came close to this.

Harnessing its Psychic powers once again, Deoxys manifested energy, drawing it into its left hand. It took the form of a sphere. Immediately tossing the projectile towards Samus, she evaded the projectile and began noticing a trend in Deoxys' attacks. It almost exclusively attacks from a distance, it has not yet attacked at close range, with the exception of its initial attack. Using her resourcefulness, she hatched a plan to make this situation more favourable for her.

Sprinting toward Deoxys, Samus jumped into the air, where Deoxys grabbed hold of Samus with its use of Psychic. Though she couldn't move her body, Samus was in an ideal position. Firing a Power Beam at Deoxys, but it too was grabbed by its Psychic powers. Although that isn't what Samus had intended, she still had the ability to fire more projectiles. But before she could, Deoxys again tossed Samus to the side, similarly, her projectile was rendered meaningless.

The impact did little damage, and Samus proceeded to make her descent towards the ground, but before she did, she was once again struck by something. But it happened so quickly that Samus didn't even have the time to think about it. She hit the ground much harder than before, finally coming to clarity. She looked up to see Deoxys, only to see it had completely changed its appearance. Though still bipedal, Deoxys now appeared sleeker.

Each arm was just a single tentacle, it had a long protrusion off the back of its head with two smaller points on each side of its head. From the neck down to the legs, its body was primarily a dark grey color, with bits of reddish-orange and blue situated on the knees and hip joints. Deoxys had changed from its Normal Forme into its Speed Forme. Despite not having witnessed its form alteration, Samus recalled how the two tentacles formed into a proper arm earlier.

With that information, Samus concluded that Deoxys could freely alter its body, able to adapt to given situations, and switched to a form that enabled significantly increased speeds. She had been able to avoid Deoxys' initial attack, albeit not easily, and that an attack backed up by a boost in speed would catch off her guard. It reminded her of the Power Suit and how each of its upgrades were able to adapt to particular environments.

For just a fleeting moment she thought perhaps Deoxys was another lifeform that had been helped by the Chozo, but that didn't seem very likely, and she focused on the fight once again. Having used ExtremeSpeed to its advantage, Speed Forme Deoxys stood in midair, seeing what Samus would do next, knowing it had the speed to attack Samus before she could attack it. But instead of being an idle bystander, Deoxys made use of yet another move.

Raising its tentacles out to its sides, Deoxys began to duplicate itself, and several copies of Deoxys manifested from the original. Samus watched her surroundings as the storage area was soon populated by Deoxys and its clones. Focusing her attention on all the clones, Samus watched one of them come right toward her, to which she fired her Power Beam, resulting in its disintegration. She knew it wasn't the real Deoxys.

And soon the other copies of Deoxys joined in, all racing around the room, as one by one, they started attacking Samus. The bounty hunter met each of her clone opponents head-on, using missiles and power beams to dispatch them. She caught onto the fact that none of them were moving at the speeds that Speed Forme Deoxys had done prior. Making it easier for her to counterattack.

Though while she was fending off the duplicates, the real Deoxys took advantage of the situation and began charging electrical energy into its tentacles, it manifested as a dark ball with a yellow aura that frequently sparked with bolts of lightning, the move Zap Cannon. Deoxys launched it towards Samus, who noticed it out the corner of her eye. She leapt out of the way, only to be caught by one of the Deoxys duplicates. It altered its arms and used Wrap to ensnare and trap Samus. The Zap Cannon disintegrated some Deoxys duplicates, but this was of no concern.

The duplicate then carried Samus off the ground whilst Samus struggled for her freedom. Since her arm cannon wasn't aimed at the duplicate, she couldn't launch any weaponry at it. But she remained calm and tapped into one of her Power Suits upgrades. She emitted energy waves from certain areas on her armor, these waves forced the duplicate to release her, and Samus quickly assumed a somersault position, performing her iconic Screw Attack.

As she descended she fired a Power Beam at the duplicate that had carried her, disintegrating it. She landed on the ground and noticed there were fewer duplicates. She once again assumed the role of taking out the duplicates, with it becoming much easier to handle them now. The real Deoxys didn't waste any time and quickly prepared another move.

The purple gem in its chest launched dark, jagged energy directly towards Samus. Although she had leapt out of the way, Deoxys simply redirected the attack, where it finally struck her. Deoxys used Night Shade. Without warning, Samus experienced a burst of anguish, as she saw someone that only brought terror with them, a frightening image. She saw the visage of her parents' murderer, Ridley. The purple alien and Space Pirate. The image of Ridley inside her head initially got to her, but she had fought Ridley many times in the past.

(Cue Theme of Egg Factory - Sonic Riders)

Seeing that Night Shade was a success, Deoxys finished using that move and readied the use of its most powerful move, Psycho Boost. To ensure the attack performs its most optimal, Deoxys again alters its appearance, changing from the Speed Forme to the Attack Forme. The protrusions on Deoxys' head become more triangular, with there being three, one of which pointed upward. The tentacles return to four, and the reddish-orange and blue skin appear once again on Deoxys' legs. With only its torso and neck appearing as dark grey.

In between its four tentacles, a glowing multi-colored ball of energy appears, Deoxys' Psycho Boost. Launching it towards Samus, who managed to return to reality in time to narrowly dodge the attack. But Deoxys did not waste time and immediately began to launch another Psycho Boost in quick succession. This pushed Samus into a sprint, which allowed her to move quite fast since the gravity inside the room was designed for humans. Though she evaded them, she knew that it couldn't keep going, and she needed to do something.

Using any kind of long-range attack would simply be met with Deoxys' Psychic powers, and getting close would also result in the same situation. In a short time, Samus came up with a plan, one that would hopefully pay off. As she started preparing a Charge Beam, Samus jumped off the ground and fired the Charge Beam towards Deoxys. But instead of evading it through sheer agility, Deoxys simply used Psychic to freeze the projectile in place. Samus momentarily shifted her form into the Morph Ball and used her smaller form and mobility to zoom around the room.

Not knowing what this form was capable of, Deoxys reached out with Psychic, and halted Samus' Morph Ball in place, seeing that she was immobilized, she knew trying to break free would be meaningless. Deoxys tossed Samus to the wall, where she quickly rolled off the wall and used the momentum to approach Deoxys, who again stopped her with its telekinetic prowess. Since the two seemed to be going in circles, Deoxys once again threw Samus to the wall, and this time she shifted out of her Morph Ball.

Seeing that it was difficult to get up close without being caught, Samus again thought of an idea. Again, she turned into the Morph Ball and used her agility to zoom around the room. But Deoxys was easily capable of tracking her. Though this time it decided to pursue instead of attack from a distance. Having been in its Attack Forme for a while now, Deoxys altered itself to Speed Forme. And caught up to Samus very easily, using ExtremeSpeed to land an incredibly fast strike.

The Morph Ball struck the wall yet again, and Deoxys charged forward to make a finishing blow, transforming back into Attack Forme. With Samus at close range, a Psycho Boost would be a surefire victory move. Though just before Deoxys could attack, a massive explosion rocked the area, and Deoxys relented to it. Without realizing it, Deoxys had unwittingly allowed itself to stand at the epicenter of a Power Bomb, Samus correctly deduced that Deoxys would try to follow her if she used one of her faster forms.

The Power Bomb's explosion triggered the collapse of the storage area, Deoxys landing inside a massive crater, whilst Samus remained unaffected by her Power Bombs. Since it had been in Attack Forme, Deoxys' defenses were significantly lowered, so it took a great deal more damage. Capitalizing on her opportunity, Samus fired an Ice Beam at the downed Deoxys, before using a Charge Beam to destroy what parts of the body had been frozen.

Realizing its circumstances, Deoxys used Recover, quickly regenerating the body parts it had lost. Samus watched her progress be completely rendered meaningless, but again this proved useful information. Now seeing that it was at a disadvantage, Deoxys again altered its appearance. With all of its protrusions gone, Deoxys now appeared bulkier, broader, and no longer had a neck. Making it resemble a helmet.

Having entered its Defense Forme, Deoxys was better prepared to withstand damage, at least until it could regain the advantage against Samus. Having seen Deoxys undergo yet another alteration, Sams knew that she herself needed to take some action. Closing her eyes, Samus' willpower manifested the upgrade of her Power Suit.

The prominent orange on her armor disappeared, and the armor itself took on a slightly more jagged appearance. In place of the orange was purple, and small trails of light blue, matching the color of her visor, ran along the chest, shoulders, and legs. Samus had upgraded to the Gravity Suit. Now undaunted by gravity, Samus was more than capable of battling in any environment. She fired a Charge Beam at Deoxys, who moved out of the way, though not as quickly as in its other forms. But this was no problem for Deoxys.

Making use of its Psychic powers once again, Deoxys telekinetically grabbed hold of several rocks, even taking control of some of the smaller meteoroids around the asteroid belt. In a fashion similar to Ancient Power, Deoxys threw the rocks toward Samus. To counteract this move, Samus fired the more powerful Long Beam, which broke apart the rocks being hurled at her. Though she soon noticed the asteroid headed right for her.

Knowing she didn't have the firepower necessary to destroy it on short notice, Samus sprinted away from it and altered herself into the Morph Ball. But not quickly enough to avoid the asteroid, as it impacted a massive area of the output, effectively burying Samus within. Determining that it was safe to do so, Deoxys altered its forme once again, returning to its Attack Forme. Immediately, Deoxys performed Hyper Beam.

The massive beam breaking apart the asteroid, revealing Samus laying on the ground. Again, Deoxys prepared an attack, Psycho Boost. Launching the projectile toward Samus, Deoxys watched the events unfolding very carefully. Samus carefully dodged the Psycho Boost and fired a Long Beam toward Deoxys, who halted the attack with Psychic. Returning the attack to its sender, Deoxys watched Samus' movements. Seeing her attack reflected, Samus turned into her Morph Ball form and avoided her reflected attack.

Seizing an opportunity, Deoxys once again used its Psychic powers to commander more boulders and asteroids, something that would give Samus fewer options and restrict her mobility. Taking control of more of them than it had done before, Deoxys hurled them towards Samus, and due to the sheer numbers, some of it was going to hit the outpost as well. Knowing that it was abandoned, Samus withdrew any concern. But she knew that being under another asteroid wouldn't be an ideal position.

Measuring up her options, Samus zoomed along in her Morph Ball, headed right for the outpost. As Deoxys altered the path of the boulders and asteroids, a majority of them were going to hit the outpost. And as the localized shower of boulders and small asteroids bombarded the establishment, parts of it soon floated aimlessly in space, craters formed and most of the surface level had been destroyed. Though it had lost track of Samus' whereabouts.

Without warning, Samus struck Deoxys with her Arm Cannon, breaking its Psychic concentration. She quickly followed up with a Charge Beam, with its Defense at its lowest, Deoxys quickly shifted its shape to Defense Forme and tanked the Charged Beam cleanly. Having used the asteroids as platforms, Samus had been able to manoeuvre her way around the battlefield and land an attack on the unsuspecting Deoxys.

Managing to stop itself in midair, Deoxys remained in its current forme, hoping to prevent any further damage. Samus again fired a Power Beam, which Deoxys stalled with Psychic and turned back against Samus. Just then, a Power Bomb exploded on one of the asteroids, and Deoxys was struck by a piece of it, knocking it to the ground. Thanks to her Gravity Suit, Samus managed to avoid the pieces of the asteroid that would've hit her. Fortunately for Deoxys, the damage this time was much more minimal.

Determined to make it count, Samus prepared another Charge Beam and fired it toward Deoxys, who once again stopped it with Psychic, sending it back to its attacker. Using her Grapple Beam, Samus latched onto one of the outpost's ledges, using it to holster herself to safety. Seeing what Samus was trying to do, Deoxys used Psychic to grab and throw that piece of the outpost's building and launch it towards a much bigger asteroid, the collision of which seemed big enough to crush Samus.

But just in the nick of time, Samus lept from the small remnant of the outpost and touched down on the ground. Determined to land a strong attack, Deoxys charged and launched Hyper Beam toward Samus. To ensure she'd avoid it, Samus turned into her Morph Ball form where she followed alongside the beam. She quickly followed up by launching her Grapple Beam at Deoxys, tethering the beam to its leg. Without wasting any time, Samus pulled on her Grapple Beam, bringing Deoxys down to the ground, forcing it to abandon Hyper Beam.

Though moments before it collided with the ground, Deoxys used Psychic to grab Samus, ceasing her attack. Telekinetically throwing her to the ground instead. Although her impact formed a small crater, Samus was able to get back up, her Gravity Suit holding up to all this damage. The two looked at one another, Deoxys could very faintly glimpse at Samus' eyes which were faintly visible through her light blue visor.

(Cue Unfinished Business - Xenoblade Chronicles)

Without a word being uttered from either party, the two soon resumed battling, with Deoxys using Psycho Boost, which Samus matched with a Charge Beam. Though the two projectiles collided, eventually Deoxys' Psycho Boost prevailed. Though Samus quickly zoomed around in her Morph Ball to avoid being attacked. Though Deoxys launched yet another Psycho Boost, which also missed Samus, but struck the surface, causing parts of the massive asteroid to lift off the ground. Samus took notice of the attack and made sure she didn't get hit again.

As Psycho Boost proved ineffective, Deoxys instead used its Psychic power to grab hold of Samus' Morph Ball, ceasing her movement. And threw her toward the chunks of the asteroid that had risen. This time, Psycho Boost looked to be more effective than the prior attempts, and Deoxys readied a Psycho Boost. Samus landed on the small asteroid and noticed the Psycho Boost headed right for her. With no time to waste, she again turned into a Morph Ball and zoomed from one asteroid chunk to another in time for Psycho Boost to destroy it.

Flying over to where it had struck the asteroid, Deoxys looked and saw Samus laying on the ground, clearly damaged from the Psycho Boost and subsequent impact with the ground. Looking to bring this battle to a close, Deoxys charged a Hyper Beam, seeing that Samus wasn't responsive to the attack this time. Fully prepared, Deoxys was just moments from launching its attack when a third Power Bomb exploded, the radius catching Deoxys off guard and damaging it significantly due to being in Attack Forme.

Turning around, Deoxys noticed that there was a massive hole in one of the other chunks from the asteroid, which again had manipulated Deoxys into letting its guard down. Seeing that things were now too unpredictable, Deoxys changed from its Attack Forme back into its Normal Forme. To ensure that there were no obstacles to use against it, Deoxys took hold of the chunks of the asteroid and tossed them away, leaving them to float in space.

Resuming the battle, Deoxys turned and saw that Samus was no longer on the ground. Immediately Deoxys started searching for the bounty hunter. Just then, Samus emerged from beneath Deoxys, with her Arm Cannon fully charged to an even greater degree than the Charge Beam. Her Arm Cannon aimed point-blank at the DNA Pokémon, Deoxys' eyes widened at the discovery. Having Deoxys exactly where she wanted, Samus unleashed a devasting Zero Laser. The blue light of the beam enveloped Deoxys, unable to escape.

The intense unrestrained beam completely overwhelmed Deoxys, obliterating its entire body, after several seconds, Samus finished firing her Zero Laser and looked up to see Deoxys was no more. All that remained of it was the purple gem that was housed in its chest. At first, Samus thought to destroy it once and for all, but she thought about it and recalled her past experiences, especially the Metroids. After careful consideration, Samus decided against destroying the gem.

Seeing it float in space, completely harmless, Samus jumped up and grabbed the purple gem, inspecting it as she made her descent to the ground, Samus headed for her gunship, hoping this lifeform would be studied so the galaxy knows what it could be up against in the future. A light shined over her, Samus turned to see a spacecraft approaching the outpost and landing in the hangar area.

After a brief conversation, Samus boarded her Gunship, placing the gem in a secure location. Tired from battle, Samus willed her Gravity Suit to dematerialize, once again revealing her sleek blue Zero Suit. Feeling at peace once again, Samus looked at the purple gem as she launched her Gunship back into space.

K.O.!

Conclusion[]

(Cue Ending Theme - Metroid: Samus Returns)

Boomstick: Now that was pretty awesome!

Wiz: With considerable power on both sides, there were arguments for both to win. Deoxys certainly had some advantages in its corner, namely the fact that Deoxys was so much more versatile than Samus, and the fact it could turn into any of its formes at will. While these made the battle harder for Samus, it wasn't enough to completely subdue her.

Boomstick: Yeah, Samus isn't just some rookie in a buff space suit. She's an intergalactic bounty hunter who's spent decades learning to hunt and survive, often with just her bare essentials. Though when she has access to the tools of her trade, Samus is very difficult to truly put down, even the baddest motherfuckers in the galaxy like Ridley have a hard time, and he constantly comes back for rematches. Samus has just way too much experience, Deoxys just pales in comparison when put into a fight like this. Plus, when looking at the material for Deoxys, none of them indicate they are the same Deoxys, so its tough to prove that Deoxys has even remotely comparable experience.

Popup: Due to being administered the Metroid Vaccine, Samus developed the species' vulnerability to Ice and low temperatures. However, since Deoxys could not naturally learn any Ice-type moves, it could not exploit this weakness. Conversely, Samus did not have reliable access to the Dark Suit, which would have been advantageous due to Deoxys' weakness to Dark-type moves.

Wiz: Samus also had resistance to mental attacks thanks to resisting Mother Brain, so its unlikely Deoxys would be able to overwhelm her mentally. While Pressure certainly put Samus' stamina to the test, Samus went to SR-388 and Zebes back-to-back, and that didn't tire her out. It can be argued that Deoxys' mental powers could overwhelm Samus and force her back into the Zero Suit, but this is theoretical at best. Samus has only ever succumbed to stress in incredibly difficult times, and her existing resistance to mental attacks only makes it less likely. Both had feats of Faster than Light speeds, and Deoxys was certainly faster in its Speed Forme, but that wasn't enough to defeat Samus.

Boomstick: Deoxys is on equal footing with Rayquaza, a Legendary Pokémon, so at the very least those two are comparable. While Deoxide here is very powerful, that doesn't mean it wins at everything. Perhaps the biggest elephant in the room is that Deoxys' strength is also its weakness. Any forme it changes to means that something else has got to give. Want to attack harder? You're now a glass cannon! And since Deoxys didn't have the smarts to figure out Samus' more crafty methods, it would only make things tougher when Sammy lands a well-placed Power Bomb which doesn't affect her, and hurts Deoxys a lot harder.

Wiz: Grand Meteor Delta boasted planet destroying capabilities, but this is attributed to the size of the meteoroid and not Deoxys' capabilities. Samus was able to best the Tallon Metroids that survived 73 zettatons of TNT by the Leviathan's impact. Additionally, Samus had access to more powerful suits like the Gravity Suit. Compared to Defense Forme Deoxys, the damage reduction was a constant, and with no draw back to Samus' offensive capabilites. Even when defending, Deoxys can be overwhelmed by stronger Pokémon like Mega Rayquaza.

Popup: As shown in Destiny Deoxys, if it is reduced to its core, Deoxys will eventually regenerate. However, since there is no immediate way for Deoxys to continue fighting, Deoxys is considered as being defeated when reduced to its core.

Boomstick: Deoxys does have some notable feats, such as using auroras to trick opponents into thinking its using a completely different forme, but that was when Deoxys was Giovanni's Pokémon, and while that's pretty clever, we only ever saw it during that battle, so we can't assume a typical Deoxys can do that. If we decided to include everything for both characters, its unlikely the outcome would change, since Samus gains the ability to use White Holes, which are able to nullify Black Holes that would've eaten the whole universe.

Wiz: With Deoxys unable to compare to the strongest Pokémon of them all, it just doesn't have what it takes to win this fight. Though Deoxys was very versatile, fast and commanded impressive psychic power, it just wasn't enough to surpass Samus' greater experience, power, durability, mental defenses and ingenuity.

Boomstick: Looks like Deoxys has met its Destiny.

Winner - Samus Aran

Wiz: The winner is Samus Aran.

Original Track[]

An Original Track for this fight would be titled "Primed for Destiny".

The title refers to media in which the two play significant roles (Metroid Prime and Destiny Deoxys, respectively).

Trivia[]

  • The connections between Deoxys and Samus Aran are that they are Nintendo’s cosmic protectors who have mutated/infused DNA. Granting them shapeshifting abilities, most famously when they change into and from geometric objects (Deoxys as a Pyramid, Samus as a Sphere). They have various forms and appearances. (Normal, Attack, Defense, Speed for Deoxys. Zero, Power, Varia, Gravity for Samus) Both are associated with viruses (Deoxys originally being an extraterrestrial virus and Samus being hired to cure the Corruption virus) and have famously battled a draconic enemy on multiple occasions (Rayquaza and Ridley).
