Dash and Violet vs. Lash and Speed is a What-If? Death Battle by I'm Lynda. It features Dash and Violet from the 2004 Pixar movie, The Incredibles, and Lash and Speed from the 2005 Disney movie, Sky High.

Description

Young people with superpowers, they’re always getting into trouble, especially when they square off against each other!

Interlude

Boomstick: ♪ Children behave, that's what they say when we're together! And don’t use your superpowers to destroy each otherrrrrrrrr! ♪

Wiz: I’m pretty sure that that’s not how it goes.

Boomstick: Well, that’s how it should go this time.

Wiz: That’s true, because today we are bringing together two teams of superpowered youngsters. The first being composed of Dash and Violet, the children of Mr. Incredible and Elastigirl.

Boomstick: And the second containing the bullies of Sky High School, Lash and Speed.

Wiz: I’m Wiz, and he’s Boomstick.

Boomstick: And it's our job to analyze their weapons, armor and skills to find out who would win a Death Battle.

Dash and Violet

Wiz: It’s not easy being a kid today.

Boomstick: Especially if you have superpowers, and even showing them off is illegal!

Wiz: You see, back in the day, one of the leading heroes was Mr. Incredible, and there were few things that Mr. Incredible couldn’t pound into submission. That is, until he faced an opponent that he couldn’t punch: the American legal system.

Boomstick: That’s right, one day Mr. Incredible did the wrong thing by saving a would-be jumper, a jumper who didn’t want to be rescued. So, the guy sued Mr. Incredible and the U.S. Government.

Wiz: This ignited a firestorm of lawsuits, resulting in the U.S. Government passing a law that forced superheroes out of their masks and under cover. But life went on, and Mr. Incredible married Elastigirl, and they had some children.

Boomstick: Violet and Dash are the older two children of Incredible and Elastigirl, and they are trying to live in a world where they have some really cool powers, but they have to keep them hidden. At least, until the chips are down.

Wiz: When the city of Metroville was threatened by the likes of Syndrome, the Underminer and the Screenslaver, Violet and Dash joined their parents, and brought the bad guys down.

Boomstick: As for Dash, he’s a pretty straightforward speedster, but he is a very good speedster. He can run fast enough to run on water, as well as up walls, and across ceilings, using his moment to keep him from falling.

Wiz: The Incredibles video game gives his top speed as 190 mph, or about 305 kph. However, that may be understating his speed a bit. When his teacher wanted to find incriminating evidence against Dash, he set up a hidden camera. When got up from his desk, ran to the teacher’s chair, put a tack on it, and then returned to his chair, his movement could not even be seen on the camera. Therefore, he must travel at a very high speed indeed. And, amazingly, he can go from super-speed to a dead stop practically instantaneously.

Boomstick: But, Dash can do more than run fast, when battling Syndrome’s soldiers, he demonstrated the ability to punch far faster than was humanly possible.

Wiz: As for Violet, unlike most members of her family, she has two powers. Her first power is the ability to turn invisible. She can seemingly turn this power on and off at will.

Boomstick: But, even better is her ability to generate force fields. It appears that she can generate spherical force fields that she can flatten at will, to make a force field wall.

Wiz: She can generate the fields around herself, and encompassing someone else, if she wants. Or, she can generate a force field around someone else, like the time she generated one around her father and six villains, make certain that they could not get away from him.

Boomstick: Even cooler, she once generated a force field around someone, and slowly decreased the size of the sphere, until he agreed to tell her what she wanted to know. I’ve gotta say, I’ve always wondered what would have happened if she had made the sphere really small. Would she have ended up with a sphere full of goo?

Wiz: Ew. Anyway, one other tactic that Violet uses with her force fields, is to make one relatively small, and then use it as a battering ram against an opponent or an obstacle, such as a locked door. It seems that she can generate a lot of force with the impact of the sphere.

Boomstick: A limit seems to be that Violet can apparently only create one force field at a time. Or at least, it has not been shown that Violet can create more than one force field at a time.

Wiz: But, powers aside, Violet is able to fight with her bare hands. She faced villain-controlled super, Voyd, and went toe-to-toe with her, even though Voyd was easily twice her size.

Boomstick: Dash and Violet are a formidable pair, who are used to working together. When they team up against you, you are in an Incredible amount of trouble.

Lash and Speed

Wiz: Welcome to Sky High, a high school for super-powered children.

Boomstick: It’s sort of what Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters would look like if it was created by the government.

Wiz: Like all normal high schools, Sky High has its cliques, and its cool kids, and its bullies...

Boomstick: Which brings us to Lash and Speed!

Wiz: That’s right, Lash and Speed like picking on children weaker than themselves, especially those on the “Hero Support Track.”

Boomstick: OK, let’s take a step back. On Freshman Orientation Day at Sky High, the youngsters are taken into the gym, placed on a stage, and their powers are examined. A member of the faculty, usually a self-important Physical Education teacher, then declares whether their powers put them on the “Hero Track,” which is to say that they get the full superhero training, or on the “Hero Support Track,” where they are trained to be a sidekick for a more deserving hero. Talk about “no pressure!”

Wiz: This creates a two-tiered hierarchy in the school, with the “heroes” on top, and the “sidekicks” on the bottom.

Boomstick: Which really sucks. Right off the bat, a whole batch of students are marked down as having inferior powers, and Lash and Speed are right there to target them.

Wiz: Now, Lash and Speed pretty much have one power each. For Lash, it’s the power of elasticity. That is to say, he can stretch his limbs out to impossible lengths. This is a power that he shares with Ralph Dibny, the Elongated Man, and Helen Parr, Elastigirl.

Boomstick: At one point, when working to trigger a fight between two students in the school cafeteria, Lash stretched his arm out along the floor, reaching at least thirty feet, and tripping one of the students into another. He was able to completely control his arm, weaving it between other, moving students, and placing it right where he wanted it.

Wiz: Lash has also perfected using his elasticity to move himself over obstacles, or use it to launch his friend Speed.

Boomstick: Beyond his super-stretchiness, Lash is very strong. At one time, when Lash aimed a punch at a sidekick, the fellow ducked, and Lash ended up punching the door of a locker instead. It hurt his hand, but he put a rather formidable dent in the door. He’s no Incredible Hulk, but it does show superior strength.

Wiz: If Lash can be said to have a specific weakness, it is that he does not have complete control over the stretchiness of his limbs. For example, when tangling with the super-strong Will Stronghold, Stronghold lifted Lash up, and tied him to a post, with his own arms and legs.

Boomstick: As for Speed, his power is...well, speed. He’s your garden variety speedster, but a rather good one. The Sky High school entry for him states that, “At max speed, can outrun a beam of light.” However, he is never shown to run faster than the speed of light, so that claim has to be taken with more than a grain of salt.

Wiz: What Speed has done is run in a circle so fast that he was able to create a vortex that sucked all of the air out of the center of the circle. This caused the opponent in the middle begin to suffocate, and not be able to use his flame powers, as flame requires oxygen.

Boomstick: Also, while Will Stronghold was making out with Gwen Grayson, he was able to speed into the room, steal a rather large item, and speed out, without being noticed. Though, considering that Gwen was the hottest chick in Sky High, you probably could have dropped a boulder on Stronghold’s head and he wouldn’t have noticed that either!

Wiz: Nonetheless, he is very fast indeed. When he speeds through the room, it is impossible to see more than the merest flash of movement and detect a quick movement of air.

DEATH BATTLE!

Pre-Fight

Dash and Violet stepped off of the bus as if in a dream. They were really on a floating island with a high school on it! It was called Sky High School, and it was a school only for young supers!

Other buses had arrived, and young supers were hurrying towards the school building; some were walking, some were flying, and others were using other super-powered forms of locomotion.

A school where they didn’t have to hide their powers; it was too good to be true!

“Wow,” was all that Dash could say, and Violet nodded her agreement.

A pretty young woman stepped up to the Parrs and said, “Hello! I’m Gwen Grayson, the student body president here at Sky High. I’m so glad that you could come to the school for our open house. It’s my job to show you around, and let you get a feeling for the place.”

She looked down at Dash. “You must be Dashiell. You’re too young to attend Sky High, but seeing the place will give you something to look forward to.”

She gave the two Parr children a dazzling smile and said, “Well, follow me inside and we’ll get started right away.”

She turned and walked towards the school building, and Dash and Violet followed as if in a trance.

Later, in the afternoon, Gwen, Violet and Dash sat in the gymnasium, watching several rounds of a game that they called, “Save the Citizen.” It seemed that it was played by two teams of two students, one team playing as the “heroes” and the other playing as the “villains”. While a timer counted down, a mannequin representing an innocent civilian was slowly lowered into some sort of enormous chipper-shredder. It was up to the “heroes” to get the civilian to safety, and it was up to the “villains” to stop them. The timer gave the “heroes” only three minutes.

There was a coach sitting on a tall observation chair, but he didn’t seemed to intervene much in the game at all. Nonetheless, the Parr children were fascinated, watching the various players square-off against each other, using their superpowers to the utmost. It was like nothing that they had ever experienced before.

The “villains” won the most recent round, with the mannequin dropping into the chipper-shredder and being torn apart. Violet couldn’t help but be secretly appalled, even as the students around her applauded the game. The “villains” seemed quite pleased with themselves; they chest-bumped when declared the winners. Violet got the impression that these two players were happier as villains than heroes. She took an immediate dislike to the two.

Coach Boomer looked at his clipboard, and said, “Alright, next round. Speed, Lash, do you want to be heroes or villains?”

Speed shrugged, and declared, “Villains.”

Coach Boomer stated, “Oh, there’s a surprise. Alright, who do want to beat next?”

Speed looked up into the bleachers, pointed at Dash and Violet, and asked, “What about the visitors?”

Coach Boomer shook his head, and said, “Nope, you know the rules, it’s got to be students.”

Lash looked at Speed, and said, “Yeah, they’re completely untrained. We would cream them easily!”
