The art of darkness is one only certain people can master, while others become what is known as "Edgelords". Yet, those who do master this art become what they are truly searching for... true badassery. Like Dante, The Youngest Son Of Sparda, and Alex Mercer, The Prototype. Alone they can take on whoever is put in front of them, but against one another... only one can walk away. It's time to see who lives, who dies, and who tells their story, in this DEATH BATTLE!
Alex Mercer, The Prototype[]
Viruses, the current bane of our existence. And while everyone is hopefully staying home enjoying themselves in sweet sweet quarantine, let's look at an alternate universe, the universe... of Prototype. Do you think the Rona is bad? Well, I have some news for you buckaroo, the Blacklight virus is so much worse. Created by a group of scientists, the Blacklight Virus was meant to cure several major diseases such as cancer and other such things, well... that's what they thought. In reality, it was an attempt to reengineer the Redlight Virus, a full-on bioweapon. The worst part is... they were successful, well successful-ish. The virus had an outbreak that immediately started wrecking shop, mutating people into hideous, mindless monsters, yet there was one man that became the most monstrous. His name? Alex Mercer.
Powers and Abilities[]
Alex's body was heavily genetically modified when he was infected by the virus, but not in the way most people were. Instead of becoming a freakish creature most folks had transformed into, Alex's body became stronger, faster, way more durable, and a heck of a lot more deadly. Now, he's able to morph and shift his body to his will, like making his arms turn into blades, hammers, claws, or even scorpion-style spears. He can wrap himself in a freaky mutated armor that lowers his mobility but allows him to take some tough blows. He can glide, leap tall buildings in a single bound, ensnare people in his tendrils, sense others using infrared and sonar, disguise himself, and hell even regenerate himself so quickly that Deadpool would find it charming. Yet, his most powerful and iconic ability is to consume and absorb people, gaining their memories, DNA, powers, and even physical traits.
In list form these abilities are:
- Shifting: He can mutate and transform his body however he wants. This allows him to create things like blades, hammers, whips, claws, and even disguise his appearance into that of another person.
- Supernatural Senses: He can sense the infected, and just others in general through sonar and infrared.
- Regeneration: With enough biomass, he can heal both minor and major wounds without much issue.
- Consumption: Alex can completely consume and assimilate people, gaining their powers, physical attributes, DNA, and memories.
- Infected: With a spray of smoke, Alex can turn people caught in the gas into the infected, which he can control. He can also create something known as an "Evolved", which is someone with powers similar to that of Alex.
- Defense: Alex can create both a shield and engulf himself in armor.
Feats[]
Alex is strong enough to tank explosions (with bullet's practically bouncing off of him), effortlessly fight armies, and he even killed both his predecessor and his successor. Alex can outrun cars, dodge bullets, run up buildings, and even outran Roland, who created shockwaves just by running. Hell, with his weapons he can effortlessly destroy tanks and other military-grade vehicles without even batting an eye. But his most impressive feat is when he survived a nuclear bomb by infecting and absorbing a crow, while his body was nothing but mush, which is awesome!
Weaknesses[]
Alex's powers rely on Biomass, the more people he consumes, the powerful he becomes, but the fewer people he consumes well... he's kind of screwed. Besides that, Alex can be locked in place by electricity, and can't really swim because of how much biomass is contained within him.
When it comes down to it, Alex Mercer is not someone you want to be near, whether it be 2 feet, 6 feet, or 200, be wary of the Prototype.
Dante, Son of Sparda[]
Demons, we all have them. They haunt us in the dead of night, and the living of day, when we close our eyes, when we keep them open, we can't escape. So... what to do when these demons become too overpowering? Simple, you hit up Devil May Cry and its wacky woohoo pizza man, Dante. Born to the human Eva and the demon Sparda, Dante is the younger half of the Sparda twins, as well as the best Demon Hunter for the job. After an incident with quite a few literal demons, Dante had lost both his mother and was separated from his older brother, the only thing he had left being an amulet and the blade known as The Rebellion. Yet, a few journeys between hell and back and a couple piles of dead demon bodies later, Dante had been able to form his own family, and unite himself with both his brother and his nephew. Now, this deadbeat uncle continues to spar against his brother in the depths of hell, keeping the world safe from the demonic threat at the price of his freedom. Well... that is until he gets bored and returns from the underworld, we both know it'll happen.
Powers and Abilities[]
Because of the absurd powers gained from his demonic blood, Dante is one hell of a tough cookie. He has regular old superhuman physicality, like being super strong, super durable, and being faster than light, as well as a healing factor that allows him to brush off mortal wounds like they were scratches from a tiny kitty cat. He's also got some elemental resistances to fire and ice, as well as the ability to not only see through illusions but resist soul-sucking and stay underwater and in space without oxygen for a prolonged period of time. Dante also has four styles, known as Sword-Master, Royal Guard, Trickster, and Gunslinger.
- Swordmaster: Focuses on Dante's sword skills. It not only increases his proficiency with his blades but also allows him to summon several ethereal swords, among other things.
- Royal Guard: Enhances Dante's defense, and essentially allows him to be invincible for a limited amount of time, as long as he stays still.
- Trickster: Strengthens Dante's evasion, allowing him to whiz past attacks and even teleport short distances.
- Gunslinger: Heightens Dante's skills with ranged weapons, like making bazooka rockets home or even just straight up allowing him to release charge shots.
Dante also has the additions of both Devil Trigger and Sin Devil Trigger, which is when he decides to go full sicko mode and accept his inner demon. Both forms give Dante the power of flight and greatly enhances his stats as well as healing him at a much faster rate, with Sin Devil Trigger giving him some extra reality-warping and everything destroying powers.
Weaponry[]
- Devil Sword Dante: Dante's current and most powerful weapon. He obtained this weapon when he had stabbed himself with the Rebellion and merged with Devil Sword Sparda. From what we've seen, Devil Sword Dante has all the skills of The Rebellion and then some, as well as the ability to enter The Sin Devil Trigger.
- Ebony and Ivory: Dante's iconic black and white pistols. They are strong enough to one-shot demons and are generally the most versatile and used weapon in Dante's arsenal (besides his sword), with Ebony all about accuracy, and Ivory focused on rapid-fire.
- Balrog: A pair of firey gauntlets that allow Dante to switch between boxing-like punches and Capoiera-like kicks. It's best for combos and on-the-fly attack switching as it builds up more and more damage the more Dante strikes his foes.
- Coyote A: A good ol' sawed-off shotgun. This weapon is great for charging up shots and blasting em right out towards a single foe, as you shout "Buck you!" to the puniest of demons and the most annoying of devils.
- Cavaliere: A motorcycle chainsaw thing. It may be slow, but it's one of the deadliest in Dante's arsenal. Able to switch between a pair of humongous saws and a good old motorbike, riding the Cavaliere guarantees that someone or something is getting sawed to pieces, and it's fucking glorious.
- Double Kalina Anns: A pair of rocket launchers that can home on enemies and discharge charged rockets, plain and simple, and also awesome.
- King Cerberus: A nunchuck-staff thing that can channel lightning, fire, ice, and Dante's inner Bruce Lee, creating an almost impossible to get through aoe damage space.
- Doctor Faust: Sometimes, you just need to throw money at your problems, and this is perfect for that purpose. This weapon discharges a rapid-fire hale of crystalized blood orbs that essentially work as bullets, as well as spinning around and cutting stuff like that one movie. But it's most important asset is, of course, being a damn stylish hat.
Feats[]
Dante has casually blocked the humongous fists of the Savior as well as being punched in the face by Nero several times without retaining any damage (and consider that Nero is strong enough to toss around a humongous demon with tummy teeth), move faster than light, get stabbed several times over and over again and only walking away with a few holes in his coat (though... it is a good coat), slice meteors in half like butter, throw around demons several times bigger than him like ragdolls, take on armies upon armies of demons, defeat his brother Vergil on several occasions, and of course... return from DmC.
Weaknesses[]
Dante is both cocky and reckless, which can get him into some really bad situations. Besides that, while his healing factor is impressive, he is still mortal, meaning it can still be overtaxed which could lead to his demise. He also has a bit of susceptibility to both lightning and mind control and is still affected by poison, albeit, gradually.
Dante is the best of the best, the creme of the really bad parenting crop, so to any demon, devil, angel, or evil out there, be wary of the Legendary Demon Hunter.
Pre-Fight[]
Dante enters an empty church, sighing as he stares at an old sword that lay on the mantle under the ruined cross. “Hey dad. Finally found a way to replicate your sword… heh. Sorry that I couldn’t exactly get you a proper funeral but at the moment I’m kind of low on cash. You see, Lady and Trish-“ The church doors behind him open up, and Dante snarls in annoyance. “Can’t one guy have some alone time with his dead dad?” He says as he turns back, facing a hooded man in a leather jacket. “How touching. Go on with your little… reunion, pretend I’m not here.” Alex answers as he places his hand on a church pew. “No, you ruined the mood.” Dante says as he turns towards Alex, Devil Sword Dante manifesting in his hand “And it’s a real dick move, Mercer.” Alex turns towards Dante, smiling. “So… are we doing this or what?” Dante scoffs as he enters a fighting stance, with Alex’s arm pulsating as a blade forms from the limb. “Wouldn’t have it any other way, Dante.”
F I G H T ![]
- Cue - BFG 10k
Dante zooms towards Alex, his blade slamming into Mercer’s stomach as he crashes through the hardwood door! Alex lands on his feet as several spiky tendrils sprout from his back, speeding towards Dante at high speeds. “Royal Guard!” Dante shouts as he blocks the attack without much effort, before grabbing the tendrils and pulling Alex forward, clothes-lining him. Suddenly, a blunt object slams into Dante’s back as he’s thrown into a mailbox, only to recover and dodge several black thorns sprouting out of the ground. “Is that all you got?” Dante says as he dusts himself off, casually blocking a claw attack from Mercer before pulling out his shotgun and firing into his chest. Alex is knocked back as Dante cracks his knuckles, a pair of black gauntlets suddenly appearing as he runs forward and punches Alex in the face, flames exploding from the strike. With every hit, more cinder flies out before Dante starts rushing Alex with several hits to the chest before finally rearing his fist back, charging up his next strike as he shouts “Homerun!” and WHAM! Alex is stricken with an uppercut so hard that he’s sent flying.
But he stops dead in his tracks, as he zooms back down towards Dante, dragging him through the ground before picking him up and tossing him into a light post! Several tendrils stab into his chest as he’s pulled towards Alex, who cuts and slashes his foe several times before a set of claws bat him away! Dante skids against the ground as his wounds heal, pulling out a pair of rocket launchers as the rockets come flying out towards Alex, the explosions engulfing him! The rocket launchers in Dante’s hand suddenly shift into two halves of a motorcycle, as he rides towards the explosion, crashing Cavaliere into Alex’s body, with two spikes stabbing through his stomach, keeping him attached to the hood of the vehicle. “We finish stylish!” Dante remarks as he pulls out both Ebony and Ivory, pulling the trigger as both shots come flying towards Alex, only to be stopped by an armor-like coating. Suddenly, several thorns burst out of the ground, flipping over the Cavaliere as Dante grabs both ends, landing on his feet as he saws and cuts through the surrounding infected without much trouble!
Alex’s Whipfist comes flying forward, stabbing Dante in the shoulder, and pulling him forward. As Dante comes towards Alex at high speeds, he shoots down several of the infected before kneeing Alex in the face! “Swordmaster!” Dante lands on his feet as he pulls out Devil Sword Dante, slashing Alex several times! He tosses him in the air, flipping around midair with an almost Chainsaw-like effect, lacerating Alex. He thrusts forward, before striking him in the back, stabbing Alex in the chest before whirling him around and tossing Mercer into the ground! Several red ethereal swords form around Dante, “Bullseye!” He shouts as the blades zoom into Alex and stab into him, pinning him to the ground.
- Cue - Bury The Light
"Not yet dammit!" Alex rips his body away from the blades pinning him down, thrusting his claw into Dante's chest, before slamming him to the ground! "Get off me!" Dante shouts as he pulls out Ebony and fires a shot into Mercer's throat! Dante kicks Alex away as he pulls out Balrog, rocketing his fist forward, colliding with Alex's reinforced knuckles! "Think you can keep up?" He shouts as both fighters rush one another, their punches connecting with the other's equally powerful punch, "Why don't you shut up!?" Alex shouts as gets a hit in, slamming his fist into Dante's jaw before jumping up and slamming both hands into the Demon Killer, forcing him to the ground! "Sorry pal, it's part of my charm." He says as his power explodes from his body, entering the Devil Trigger! Alex immediately engulfs himself in armor as he's uppercutted in a blazing fury! Alex is barraged by a flurry of kicks before he's knocked to the ground, Dante descending on him like a meteor!
"My turn!" A black blade sprouts out of Alex's back, stabbing through Dante's chest! Alex quickly gets up as he slams his fist into Dante's stomach, claws suddenly popping out and ripping through the other side! With Dante in his grasp, Alex punches the demon in the face over and over and over again "Out of my face!" He shouts before dragging him against a brick wall and tossing him into a train station! Dante lands on his back, a metal pole impaled through his shoulder, the rest of his body covered in rubble. "Alright... that kinda hurt, gotta admit." Dante mutters as he stands up, ripping out the metal pole as his Devil trigger fades. Dante sees Alex jump off a nearby roof, gliding towards him at high speeds. "Gunslinger!" Dante shouts as he pulls out both Kalina Anns once more, a hale of rockets homing towards Alex and engulfing him! As the explosion fades, Alex starts plummeting to the ground towards Dante, and as he crash lands into the concrete, a wave of lightning immediately hits him, Mercer screaming out in pain as he's suddenly stunned! Several red balls strike him at a rapid-fire rate, before WHAM! The Cavaliere is suddenly atop him, ripping and tearing through his skin! Alex is flipped upward by the motorbike as Dante jumps at him, firing a pair of shots into Alex's head, before bringing Devil Sword Down on him, chopping The Prototype in half!
Dante lands on his feet, panting. "That was... underwhelming. And to think you almost caused the end of the world." He says as he walls away. Yet... a piece of black and red... something wraps around Dante's right shin, sticking to the ground as it stops him in his tracks. Dante watches as several infected enter the train station, seeing as their body melt into the ground, trailing towards Mercer... piecing him back together. "Just what are you?" "I am the savior of this world... but you don't believe that don't you? You never understood Dante, just like James did. I am the one who will bring this pathetic earth to peace, leading it with a single mind, a single heart. I am the one meant to bring us into the new age! And it seems... That you're the only thing in my way." The tendrils suddenly wrap around Dante, as several other black tentacles of flesh constrict him. Dante struggles, but to no effect, his life slowly being drained as he's slowly pulled towards Alex. Eventually, the Prototype lays his hand on Dante's forehead, as his skin goes pale and his veins turn black, and Dante soon loses consciousness...
- Cue - Legacy
"Dante! Hey! Dante!" He hears a voice call. Dante groans as he gets up, rubbing his head, and Nero sighs. "Get up lazy ass. You have a job to do remember? You should set an alarm for these things!" His nephew says, and Dante chuckles "Look at you, bossing me around. I just got back from hell y'know?" He says as he stands up from his couch. Dante picks up a slice of pizza, biting into it as Lady and Trish return to the shop with minor scars and cuts, both walking past him as they go to clean themselves up. Dante walks towards the door of Devil May Cry, "Hey Dante, by the way... Are you sure you can take this on by yourself? I hear he practically consumed a whole city." Nero says, "Of course kid, I'll be fine." Dante says with a smile "Alright, don't die out there, Deadweight." Nero remarks as he turns around, walking up the stairs and out of vision. As Dante places his hand onto the doorknob, he hears one last voice. "I advise you to take my son's advise," Vergil says. Dante chuckles "What? Are you afraid your little brother is going to die? Come on Vergil! How hard can it be-" "Dante." Vergil interjects, and Dante goes silent, not even facing his brother. "You better live through this. We still have a score to settle... brother." Dante smiles as he turns towards Vergil "Of course. I still have to beat your ass." He says as he opens the door, running out into the white light...
"...Heh... Man, I've heard that savior speech so many times it's not even funny." Dante mutters as he returns to consciousness. "What the fuck?" Alex says, his eyes widening as his hands tighten around Dante's head "Tsk tsk, language! Even I have standards pal." Alex grits his teeth, slamming his fist into Dante's face, the Demon Hunter smiling as he takes the blow "Awe, look at you, throwing a tantrum like a little baby. You said I don't get it right? Well... guess what, I don't, but that doesn't make you right. And now that you're having this little outburst like an absolute jackass..." Dante's body starts to radiate red, as the black flesh constricting him starts to burn up, and Dante smiles,
"Well... now I'm motivated!"
- Cue - Bury The Devil's Tears
Power bursts from Dante's body as Alex is immediately knocked back, all of his tendrils immediately disintegrating from the sheer demonic power alone! "You've got to be kidding me!" Alex shouts as he runs forward, slashing at Dante! Dante shrugs off the attack as he slams his Devil Sword into Alex's stomach, knocking him out of the train station and into the city center! Alex is stabbed through the chest by a metal fountain as Sin Devil Trigger Dante crashes into him like a devil-powered Meteor! The surrounding buildings of the city instantly shatter from the force alone! The ground is immediately leveled, leaving only a crater as the surrounding structures crumble before them. Alex lay on the ground, broken. He watches as Dante hovers into the air, spreading his arms and wings as several infernal rockets are discharged towards him! "Heh... not bad." Alex mutters as he is blown to pieces. And as the little bits of his body fall to the ground, a black-hole like rip in space suddenly forms itself, sucking up what's left of The Prototype before finally imploding.
K.O![]
The Devil lowers itself to the ground, taking deep breaths before finally... evaporating, with Dante standing silently in the middle of the crater. He stares around at the wreckage, watching the city decay. And as the Son of Eva turns around and walks away from where Alex once stood, he mutters to himself, "...Jackpot."
Conclusion[]
- Cue - Never Surrender
Well shit... is he going to pay for that or...
Jokes aside, this fight was actually a lot closer than most would expect. Alex had the advantage in intelligence, numbers, the ability to control the environment, and healing; while Dante had... everything else. Alex was nowhere near as fast as Dante, moving faster than sound at MOST, and that's if we took the Ronald's Sonic Boom stuff literally. Alex could chop through tanks, which Dante could do as well, and more. Of course, Alex was also completely outclassed in weaponry and experience, even if we only took Dante's weapons from Devil May Cry 5. So... why wasn't this a stomp? Well, for one thing, Alex's resistances to both bullets and rockets forced Dante to go for a much closer approach, and his general cockiness would allow Alex to get in some really good hits. Another thing, note that I said Healing, not Durability. Alex is nowhere near as durable as Dante, but his healing greatly exceeded Dante's. That is why the nuke feat was more of a show of Alex's healing then it was his durability (since Dante's Savior feat was definitely more impressive, especially since Alex wasn't in the center of the nuke), being able to regenerate from nothing but a raven is much more impressive compared to anything Dante has shown. So, the question was... how would one kill the other, if they even could? First, let's go over Alex.
Alex couldn't kill Dante through stabbing or bashing, so we can throw that out the window. As for decapitation, I doubt Dante would ever allow him to decapitate him, and his fighting style was generally based more on stabbing and bashing. So, the only thing Alex could do to permanently put down Dante is to consume him or overtax his healing factor, and considering the stuff Dante has taken, he definitely couldn't manage that. So when it comes down to it, his only choice was to consume Dante for himself, a move that Dante has also resisted in his only way, leaving Alex unable to kill him.
So, could Dante kill Alex? That poses the question, how could Dante bypass Alex's Wolverine-esc healing? The answer... yes, easily in fact. You see, Alex's healing had a limit, that limit being how much biomass he had within him, and considering Dante's stats, he could strike Alex enough to exhaust not only his powers but his healing as well. Sure he'd have the minor issue of Alex's infected, but we can all agree that they're practically sloppy seconds compared to Dante's sheer power. And if Dante was struggling to put Alex into the ground permanently, he could always use the absurd power of Sin Devil Trigger to wipe him out completely.
Alex was good, but he was no match to Dante's speed, strength, durability, versatility, and resolve. It seems this Devil made the infamous Prototype cry.
This Death Battle's Winner is...[]
The Legendary Demon Hunter, Dante.
